(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 112.0

Overall 2150, week is around 2100 excellent.

Definite hormonal freaking cravings and slight annoying pains today.

Kombucha 60

Breakfast: chocolate and coffee 100, banana 120

Snack: peanut butter on a roll 350, later a few peanuts

total above 700...

Lunch: salad 100, popchips 60, tofu 100, clementine 50: 350 approx chocolate 200

1250 with clementine...

Dinner before gym: thinking Subway Sandwich & Chips (I am still considering court officer position as something I AM capable of...but i MUST continue to lead a MORE active lifestyle for it to be possible...as i AM doing!)

Snack after gym: TBD...thinking yogurt and cooked cranberries 200

Buying guinea pigs tomorrow.  They are a much more real responsibility than my hamster is.  They like and require some attention as well as fresh veggies everyday. Also they require Timothy Hay (which i order online and will have to do as long as they live) and special food pellets everyday. They are definitely more expensive. I'm using washable fleece as their bedding.

I like that they should be noisy and talk a lot. Hamster doesn't and i wish it did.  I guess i find certain rodents really cute - although there's a debate out weather or not guinea pigs really are rodents...!

The store is around 10 min drive from me - friend suggested driving so that we don't need to bring the pigs back in the cold by using public transportation and he definitely has a point.

I still need to get a few veggies for the pigs - i have cucumbers and celery...i guess i need carrots only and that should be ok for awhile...oh and a leafy veggie. I'll learn to eat what they eat so veggies are bought for both me and them. Bus lets me off at a supermarket, so anytime i lack anything i can go and get it directly on the way home from work.

Their names, the two girls, will be Curl & Flex (exercise names!)

Buying these pigs means i am also making it so i need to be home more and care for them.  I don't forsee much traveling or vacations in the next 5 years, another reason i wanted them. i'd rather be home right now.

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

You must be so excited today...I would be!

2050 cal perfect

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 02/01/2018:
I'm not liking the protein cookies I've tried either.

horn_of_plenty on 02/01/2018:
and they are far from being a "natural" food...best to eat real food - the more i eat natural (not man made) type food, the better my skin gets.

Donkey on 02/01/2018:
Did you have potato-something with dinner?

horn_of_plenty on 02/02/2018:
YES! i had these fries i bought in freezer section. i will not buy again...but they cooked up even BETTER in terms of nice crispy texture than mcdonalds fries! i was impressed. the flavor was "beer batter" (sorry to bring up alcohol!)...and they even tasted like low sodium.

i had to guess the serving size bc it was by ounces. i did once by a food scale, but it's somewhere in my parent's house - and i'm NOT about to order another - and really, just like you learning maintenance, it's better that i do NOT start weighing things...guestimating calories is better....i'm not gonna start using a food scale. i feel it's wayyyy to crazy for me personally to do.

Today I will head to gym after work, looking forward to the new workout & improving over the course of this year. :--)

And for the past two days my mail has been in my closet bc i had a cleaning of my apt that i do like every 4-6 weeks...and i keep forgeting to take the mail back out, to orgainize my tax forms...and OPEN MY work W2 form!

i cannot believe i still haven't opened it! (because if something is out of sight, it's out of mind!) and mail being in closet, forgetting to take it out, i've forgotten to think about the form!

Kombucha 60

Breakfast: banana 120, coffee 20, chocolate 70

Snack: wrap 100, pb 200, sf jelly: 300

Snack: almonds

Lunch: tbd, i brought the veggies only nicely chopped peppers and cucmber in my homemade dressing i rock on this account!...ordering the rest with coworkers - or i can go & buy my own, actually....which i will do i think...yeah, we'll see. i don't need much extra walking this week, but then again, it's not like i'm running. i am thinking wayyyyy too much now. (lately slightly bored at work.)

lunch was chicken stick (chicken on skewer) from a food truck (TONS of food trucks around here like every block has one)! fatty chicken but decent good portioned amount 300, small piece bread not more than 100 cal, some sauce and veggies in dressing too150: 550. clementine 50. chocolate 50

1350 after healthy eating today....

Dinner before gym: again, TBD - or i can have my tuna at home!!!!...big possibility over here.!!!

After gym small snack: NOT ice cream like last night, too much sugar lately...maybe crackers and peanut butter...the ones already made that are packaged in the store.

2100 perfect

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 01/31/2018:
How do you make your dressing?

horn_of_plenty on 02/01/2018:
i took a photo of the recipe this AM so i could write it to you (i'm not in total love with it - i think a bit less paprike would be better) but it's definitely tasty:

3 garlic cloves minced

3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1 tbsp red wine vinegar

1/2 lemon juiced

1/2 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp paprika (i think to use half this amount would be better)

1/2 tsp basil

i'm going to look for more recipes, but this is the first one i tried making.

Donkey on 01/31/2018:
Responded to yesterday's entry, check out the comments.

Have fun at the gym!!!!

horn_of_plenty on 02/01/2018:
so with the sweet things, try not to do the "all or nothing" approach. i think it's because in our brains were are chemically affected by the sugar...that it does have an effect.

i'd say a piece of chocolate or sweet fruit or similar thing is best after a meal, when you are already full...or even as a snack a couple hours after lunch at work...just keep it small. i do not think that sweets are "all or nothing" we (including me) have to learn to moderate them somehow. also with the popcorn, that's why i do small servings too...mine is butter so usually 200 cal...

also, i sometimes use the popcorn as the carb for my meal when i'm home and can do what i want and eat what i want rather than work when i try to choose food more for what works and not to bring attention to myself...and not to be eating forever when i want to get out and walk...bc popcorn can take a long time to eat.

gym was good...i am once again realizing that i must do it 3x a week or i'll in no way improve near enough.

hamster will get jealous, yes. He has gotten really relaxed with me especially these couple weeks and sleeps really well as i hold him and pet him. as long as i hold him semi tightly (but def not hurting the guy), he will fall asleep as i pet him. the moment i stop petting him and give him too much space to move, he'll be up and antsy lol. he's a good boy...but doesn't make any sounds or show lots of excitement like guinea pigs will...guinea pigs will DEFINITELY require more attention, i'm ready - it's not like i need to only care for myself...ya know...i'm excited to hear their cute sounds.

it'll be a bit more laundry / cleaning - but no worries - the money i considered it a waste, but it's caring for a living thing which i believe can be rewarding!?

trying to get my friend to go to pet store with me - bc i'm a tad nervous to go alone and bring home two pets...kinda want a friend with me.

bearcountrygg on 02/01/2018:
The dressing recipe sounds really good...I'll need to pick up some red wine vinegar for it. Your hamster sounds like a baby ...sleeping as long as you are holding it...then awake the minute you try to lay it in bed...LOL

horn_of_plenty on 02/02/2018:
EXACTLY this way, yes.

Happy to give myself a sorta "major" new responsibility with the pigs. they'll need much more care - guinea pigs require some attention as well as fresh veggies, one cup, every day. they are a bit more expensive as a pet, but i feel it'll give me some extra happiness to have them which is the reason i am getting them.

Home: tea and honey 50

Breakfast: wrap with salami and mustard 200, banana 150, tea, chocolate 150:

1250 after lunch...

there's a bday, and i'm actually going to have a slice of cake...mouth is WATERING for it! had a LARGE slice...it was extra wet somehow!? icing was goood. at least 500 cal i'd say?

1750 after the cake....but you know, it wasn't satisfying really....so there we go again...carbs are so quickly ingested and then....was it worth it!?

2050 after chickpeas small dinner at class

Today was an indulgence 2350 total

(I had too much free time today....so here come a pair of guinea pigs soon....)...i just don't wanna wait to get them. I'm happy when home and i cannot wait to hear these little guys' sounds everyday!!!! They are known for their sounds, unlike my hamster which doesn't make sounds often...he's relatively quiet and i don't even hear him daily).

Preparing to buy two guinea pigs (they don't like living alone) and all the necessary prep work also. I'm sick of waiting to get them for when time is right.  If I need to hand them over to anyone bc of anything down the road in the next 7 years, i'll figure it out then.

I'm exciting to hear their sounds and come home to them and wake up to these cute creatures. I hope to buy them sometime in FEBRUARY :) As soon as I get all the materials.  Guinea pigs are usually talkative and make a variety of different sounds.

I have spent my $$$ and ordered basically everything i need for the two Guinea Pigs...i can probably get them either this or next weekend.

graindart on 01/30/2018:
Sweet treats are almost always a disappointment for me lately. Before the diet, I could eat anything anytime, so the quality of each individual item really wasn't all that important. Now that I have a set number of calories, I expect more out of my food and often find that the thing I was desiring wasn't actually all that good tasting.

I saved up some calories a few days ago for my daughter's birthday party. Was craving a delicious looking cupcake with icing and chocolate shavings. Took one bite and was immediately let-down. The cake was ok, the icing consistency was too hard, the flavor was ok. Stopped and thought about throwing the rest away, but ended up finishing it anyways (hoping the next bite or two would be better). There wasn't anything wrong with the cupcake, but it definitely wasn't worth the calories it cost.

horn_of_plenty on 01/30/2018:
Same with me - the sweet treats are only good the few minutes they are in your mouth - the cake today was total letdown - I mostly agree with you - I actually prefer small bites of treats like my small chocolates and 100 calorie granola bars - for same reason you say that don't take all your calories and also the darn taste you only need the two bites and not a huge thing and I have bad portion control and emotions and all - wanting and eating the cake did absolutely nothing for me - you are right - id be better with a roasted sweet potato

innerpeace on 01/31/2018:
Nope, nope, nope! No rodent like pets for me. I hope you enjoy them though! Male and female - won't they mate? and then you will have more pigs soon.

horn_of_plenty on 01/31/2018:
i have a hammy (hamster now) and i'm getting two "cavvies" or guinea pigs in a separate cage together. not with the hamster bc they will not do well together.

but the 2 guineas will be SAME sex so that they do not mate and i prefer to get females bc i hear they may be a little calmer than two males. and perhaps smell less.

i also learned that female hamsters smell MORE than male ones, and i have a male so i guess i got lucky - my hamster doesn't smell at all and i hope this will be the case with the guinea pigs as long as i clean up well weekly like i do with the hamster...

so boy hamster will not be around the 2 female guinea pigs.

Donkey on 01/31/2018:
Won't Hammy be jealous? Anyway, that's so cool. :-)

PS I hear you on the sweet things, and not that I don't disagree, but why can't I be logical in my choices then? That is to say, Why can't I think, "This isn't really worth it" and not have cake?

New exercise plan = hard as F*ck!  I think i can keep attempting and get better, but right now i'd fail it if you were testing me. I'll be practicing it for ONE YEAR until 2019...in January 2019, or december into it, i'll reconvene and assess if it's doable or not to be a court officer.

one of the exercises, called a split squat, i could only do FOUR reps in each set...not the recommended 8-12 reps. so i'm really under par. I also need to improve my situps to triple what i can do now...like be able to do 38, not my current 15. LOL...on pushups, i'm practically there at the best rating - best rating means you can do 30 pushups or more, i can do this as long as i maintain my current level of training. because i made it my best exercise (pushups) as i excelled quite fast in them over 10 years ago and at one point i could do 70 lousy form ones all at once though - which is quite impressive. no reason why i can't also make situps better, right!?  Now my top number is right around 30 pushups, but i need to make the last ones stronger and keep good form - just needs continued practice, but not really any extra effort, thankfully!

i did practice setting up the cones for the running aspects of the fitness test on sunday, i hope to practice right now on weekends that are at least 40 degrees outside.  There are two running portions.

if i can be a court officer, i will do it despite salary cut because i feel it's a simpler job with less "reasoning / deciphering / figuring out" and more "action" duties...i am going to make the attempt to get it, that's all i can do. ONE YEAR, if my progress is not substantial, i'll have to reconsider my goal of being a court officer.  Also, i want to do it for job stability as i feel once i get into academy, the job is mine to keep as long as i follow directions.

There was a time in my ADULT life i couldn't do ONE standard pushup, had to start on my news with "girl" pushups. There was a time I could only lift 10 lb weights for bicep curls (i've gotten up to at my best 35lb bicep curls and now not practicing them bc the court officer guide doesn't recommend it, only to train triceps).

There was a time after injury that  i couldn't run or even walk without pain - and i taught myself to run again after an injury.

So perhaps the "impossible" is seriously STILL POSSIBLE. I'm just not giving up yet. I just can't just yet. Before doing more running, i'm just following the legs exercises (i believe it's just 4 of them) that are advised by the court officer training guide.

Seems once we have jobs, it's hard to become really good at anything else...the effort for me is just to maintain a proper practice schedule despite some distractions...

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

horn_of_plenty on 01/29/2018:
its very slow, but nothing to worry about...

but it's so slow, that i end up worrying...

i'm gonna work on slowing my mind. lately i wake up with dreams about what i'm worrying about. not scary, but, gotta work on relaxing.

graindart on 01/29/2018:
My job pays well, has flexible hours, and allows me to work from home. On paper, I should love it. In reality I've mildly hated it since about year 2 or 3. I really didn't intend to still be doing this job 16 years later. It pays well and it doesn't take any real effort to just "continue" with what I know. Of course I'd much rather be doing something that I enjoy, but there's not really any other job / career that I can name that I'd actually enjoy doing. I've thought about just taking a week or two off and sit around brainstorming what I really would enjoy doing for a job. If I were to do that, I envision myself getting bored and falling back to watching TV or surfing the internet, thereby just wasting a week or two without pay. So while your job change goal is a little ways away, I envy the fact that you have something picked out that you'd like to do.

horn_of_plenty on 01/29/2018:
And hopefully I can advance in it I feel it works out - it starts low for NYC standards around 50k which will mean little savings for a few years. Hopefully it can all work out...

For now it means I need to push myslef to make sure I am physically practicing the exercises - it still excites me that I can do it I feel I work on it.

Donkey on 01/29/2018:
I think that's a good idea to train for a year and then re-assess. I didn't know what a split squat was, so I Googled it. Oh my, my knees hurt just watching the video. With your ankle/leg issues, please train wisely. I'm cheering you on, though. You got this!

horn_of_plenty on 01/30/2018:
yes, i'm trying to hold back...as my butt has been sore since yesterday.

the new exercises are actually way different than before, no biceps - but extra triceps and it's just totally different where i'm using much lower weights because i do not have the strength yet to do these new exercises like the ones i used to do before. It's a good change...but i must remember to also rest and not go to crazy.

yeah, with the split squat its one knee to the ground - really different.

happy-1 on 01/30/2018:
As a fellow anxiety/depression sufferer I feel you. You impress me daily.

horn_of_plenty on 01/30/2018:
thank you...lately i am more anxious than normal but moving on.

I seriously had no idea i impress you, thank you :)

I'm just going to keep on and think positive that the exercises and focus i maintain will WORK for me this time around.

Anxiety sure can complicate things...but i guess we recognize it and work to move past it..

Breakfast at work: wrap 100 with one small turkey sausage 50, banana 120, coffee with almond milk 20. total above 330 approx. and 1 piece white/dark chocolate i brought some into work to eat - maybe the limit should be 2-3 per day? lol.

snack: TBD - almonds 150

Healthy Lunch: egg/egg white 120, potatoes 200, veg 100, clementine 50. approx 500. still ate to past full but normal portions, extra veggies.

Late afternoon snack before going home: one chocolate

before gym: thinking yogurt and sweet potato? i ate dinner after getting off the bus and before walking home - worked like a charm so i just came in to pick up my things and leave for gym. this can work :)

dinner: sushi and miso soup 550

after gym: rest of that sushi, chips and blueberries 300, chocolate bc i have it now at home and work and still on a kick for chocolate lol.

total is awesome 2050, still gotta work on health :)

I walked a tiny bit extra this AM to one farther bus stop (maybe includes walking 2-3 minutes more) and because i left early, got to work too early so didn't go right in, but walked extra (even tho very cold).  So already today, i've walked around 30 minutes in the morning. Very cool. Good exercise...might as well keep this up so that i can go home and not worry that i need to exercise when i get home...except only around 1 night per week this winter when i do weights during the weekdays....i am not ever giving it up - weights have been so good to my body!

Oh, getting into work after so much walking in AM...sparksmy appetite so much...i eat as soon as i get into work (as most people do in this industry with desk jobs).

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

YAY for the walking....

horn_of_plenty on 01/25/2018:
yes, 1 or 1.5mi before 7:30am is pretty good, I'd say.

I've had better luck just adding in the exercise before the end of the workday...than going out into the cold once i get home when i'm both hungry and tired.

this new commute i'm still getting used to - it's been over one month of this new job, almost 6 weeks already!...my legs are stronger than how they were when i started...must keep on!

Weight: 112.0

2050 today

2090 5day, good

Indulged at dinner but not in mood to write it as it accidentally got deleted

Up & at work. Arrived early so did an extra walk around a whole block before walking into work.  Seems a good idea to walk extra if i'm early to work in morning...gets more steps in. something to continue.

6am Home: honey and tea 20,

7:30am Work banana 120 and chocolate 70. salt and vinegar almonds 50 total here: 260.

Breakfast: wrap 100, cashew butter, blackberries 350.

good lunch: huge, but good. gotta work i think on smaller portions or stopping when full, still i can't. 650.

3pm snack: dark chocolate

and 1350 before dinner...

No gym today bc i want a night early at home after last night's being home late. being out many nights in a row is stressful to me and i tend to get sick after running around many days in a row. it seems this Winter will include mostly 2x a week workouts except for a couple weeks in March and one week in February = good enough.

and as for my cardio - gonna try for one session on weekend (walking / maybe jogging also - not for improvement, just for maintenance right now of what i can do). in spring i'm taking a break from taking any classes (except for a 5 week jury duty class if it's offered bc it means if you go to jury duty you can be paid 80% of your salary and not just $40 a day - making jury duty worth it for me to attend!)

in spring is when i want to make advancements in my cardio...and my gym workout will be changing to include only the weights / strength exercises on the court officer training guide (since they wrote one) and will make my weight training exercises much less...but planning to do more for legs, less for arms.

Progress as of today: 5 lbs lost so far, only 0 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 01/24/2018:
Jury duty class sounds interesting...we don't have those here...but I'm sure you will find that interesting.

horn_of_plenty on 01/24/2018:
It's called a citizenship class especially for union members...i do not think it's available in many places even in NYC except for my union...it's like a really nice opportunity to not just make $40 when you can't work bc of jury duty. and for only 5 weeks, once a week for 2 hours...total of 10 hours, i know it'll be at least interesting topic of our rights / obligations as citizens and i don't mind going there, eating dinner there, for 5 weeks, once a week, and i'd actually HOPE to be selected for jury duty afterwards!

it's a class to take, doesn't mean you'll be selected for jury duty - but if you EVER are after taking the class, it's very beneficial not to only make $40 each day, but more like probably $100 each day. then i don't mind missing even a week of work for JD! LOL. good change of pace.

bearcountrygg on 01/24/2018:
That's interesting....I don't know if it's the same everywhere or not...but in Michigan they randomly pick jurors from people with drivers licenses....I've been called to jury duty 2 times....of course last fall for 3 months was my last time...but the first time was when we were an emergency foster home and they let me off because of that.....here you can also be excused if you have served as a juror in the last year or are 70 or over....there are some other reasons also that didn't apply to us......but there is also Federal jury Duty which Denny had a couple of years ago....that was more involved...and a higher crime. A lot of people love it and are eager to go.

horn_of_plenty on 01/24/2018:
Our NYC rules are slightly different but people here usually hate it except I don't mind a break from a typical work schedule if I'm getting paid similarly to what I usually get !

Maria7 on 01/24/2018:
Hope you are having a good day. Been on jury duty before...was not fun.

horn_of_plenty on 01/24/2018:
Yeah that's how people around here feel but I don't mind a break from my typical work schedule :)

Donkey on 01/24/2018:
Hey, I'll sit in a jury pool or on a jury if it means I get paid to not go to work!

I like your fitness plan for winter-into-spring. And I thought that was very wise of you to realize the gym wasn't going to happen tonight so that you can REST (to prevent getting sick). This is *brilliant* thinking!

horn_of_plenty on 01/25/2018:
yes, cannot be making myself sick if it can be partly prevented...but tonight i am going bc i don't wanna wait till last minute so then friday night and sunday night...better to go tonight, even if i'm tired.

yes, 80% of salary pay for jury duty is ok with me!

happy-1 on 01/25/2018:
REST... Does that include sitting around on DD all night? LOL.

horn_of_plenty on 01/25/2018:
i was in bed before 8pm...waking a couple times to pee...but man was i beat...i think the big dinner didn't help...it def got me sleeping being as full as i was lol.
