Sounds like a nice Sunday to me :-)

horn_of_plenty on 11/06/2017:
yes, i slept a TON. needing it with the training and busy schedule.

BearCountryGG on 11/05/2017:
I had a napping day too....nice and peaceful.

horn_of_plenty on 11/06/2017:
it really helped me relax :)...

i am realizing i need to plan a lot less right now in order to keep my training schedule (gym and jogging...) bc if i do too much, it's hard to push myself also at gym / on the track!

i realize now is going to be a time of working more...playing less.

bearcountrygg on 11/06/2017:
Stress is exhausting in itself! Things will eventually calm down and you will be able to relax more.

horn_of_plenty on 11/06/2017:
yes, thank you so much for the reminder that it's probably a little of the stress / busy schedule but perhaps stress of applying for this type of position along with all the paperwork i have to get done that may have made me tired also.

either way, i was able to nap and then fully sleep last night !

2200 total excellent mix today !

Today even included at least 2 mi walking if not more throughout !

Today - Saturday - I have a CPR class that takes place at 8am till around 2:30pm i think?

Stinky that I have "TOM" sorta heavy on a day where i need to be in a class all day...i'll have to prob get up to go to the bathroom once in morning and once in afternoon....

Then, Ricky and I might go to a concert, but it's sorta far - at least 45 minutes away, so it depends how i am feeling tonight.  I am beginning to feel rushed bc i have a lot of responsibilities this month.  The concert is a world-class horn player (and that's my instrument - french horn - this guy is from the Met orchestra - one of the best in NYC)....and he's playing solos with a Long Island, NY orchestra. It's cheap and possibly free which is the reason i didn't want to miss it...but if i feel exhausted, i'm not going out 45 minutes each way to see it and getting home 10pm after this long day with classes starting at 8am.

"TOM" came early of which i'm thankfully bc for the rest of the month i'll be attending, each on a separate week:

1. traning for the nypd fitness test

2. taking the fitness test

3. interview with investigator - and i am needing to prepare a lot of paperwork for him. i've started.

It's a REALLY busy month, trust me. I also have a lot of tasks to catch up / do.  One is important - I need to change one of my doctors to one that is local to where i live (not an hour away!) and he/she must keep good hours (example - MUST have a light night when they are available, unlike the dr now whose hours are horrible for any working person - his hours at 9-5!).  I cannot be leaving early from anyhting to go to him...so i'm changing doctors....so i have to do this research...and find one. Just a lot of things to do.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

Donkey on 11/04/2017:
I hope that you can attend the concert, but I do understand about being busy - too busy - and having to cut activities based on priorities. Still, it sounds like a wonderful concert. I wish my daughter (who plays the horn) and I could attend something like that. She would love it.

I don't know of any doctor but one that has office hours outside of the 9-5 business day. Maybe being NYC, you'll have more options available to you. I did hear of one doctor here locally, who, for $1500 a year, will see you at your convenience. But that $1500 doesn't include her treatment fee or anything else - just the convenience of her availability. To me, that seems really ridiculously expensive.

horn_of_plenty on 11/05/2017:
Yes that price is a whole lot. Not good!

I did skip the concert bc we were taking a class and sitting all day from 8-2 and then we'd have to drive just under an hour each way to a 2 hour concert - too much sitting and concentrating and very early and late day too so we just took a short walk yesterday and did a couple errands, watched a movie at his place and he slept over mine :-) which I liked having him next to me overnight actually

Oh It looked like you saw a nice shoe yourself last night ! How I love the performing arts ! There's so many choices here and inexpensive things to see - instead though I have paid for quite a few performances now thru end of December so there'll be no skipping of those paid performances !

I had a free library music event to go to but cancelled my tickets and ended up sleeping all afternoon lol

BearCountryGG on 11/04/2017:
There are drs here who have Saturday hours...maybe you can find one there.

horn_of_plenty on 11/05/2017:
It's a therapist / psych kinda dr but I am sure I will find one yes :-) and whatever insurance I get will be very common and taken by most drs so this is good :-) I may wait to do the research until I actually have to make my next appointment since I have a thousand other things to attend to right now :-)

Yes I should not have a hard time finding a dr.

Maria7 on 11/04/2017:
Hope you have a good day.

From now until after Christmas the sweets are everywhere....but it's the same every year.....I lost 55 pounds years ago eating everything.....for me...I think it's the only way. Is the egg nog flavored stevia a powder or a liquid?

Horn_of_plenty on 11/02/2017:
flavored liquid stevia and i liked it! i tried it today in my coffee!

there's also a pumpkin pie or pumpkin spice i think stevia - not as good as the egg nog!

It was quite an eventful weekend & could have been a very eventful MONDAY & Tuesday also...

There's a massive march happening today at Times Square in Manhattan (NYC) at 3pm - a huge rally against corporate greed and anti-union establishments.  Non Union electrical companies are taking our work for less because they pay their workers low wages and treat them poorly with no pensions or any kind of benefit plan as great as ours and if they keep winning jobs the middle class in NYC for working people with blue collar union jobs may be forever ending.

There's a big fight bc currently one part of our electical union (cable company workers who work for Spectrum now) have been on strike approximately 7 MONTHS! Imagaine not getting a paycheck for SEVEN months...bc they didn't work for Spectrum a year ago, Spectrum bought their previous company which was Time Warner Cable. And Spectrum will not sign the same contract these men used to have - they will lose around $30,000 in benefits over the course of each year i believe.

Spectrum doens't want to contribute to retirement plans...so these union guys do not want to settle for less - they've always had a better contract - why should they sign to do away with things they have always been privledged to - why should they sign to lower their salaries because a billion dolalr company doesn't want to give it to them? Why should their status as middle class workers be brought down and why should it decline? If Spectrum wins the fight, it's a loss to my union...and it means that the whole union is going to suffer and suffer greatly. It means that other non union companies are going to challnenge us & that they might win the fight - this will damage the union for many years if not forever.

It's a fight for working rights and privledges. Non union workers do not live the same middle class lives although they might think they are - they are desperate to work and do not know any other better life. Union workers do - we fought for what we have & we may just lose it if the government doesn't start to help us out - which is difficult with a Trump Administration. Sorry if I offended everyone, but this is my life right now.

My dad is big in activism for the union - but he told me not to leave work early to go today to the march. So i'll be staying at work as he asked me to do. I don't work in Manhattan and to be there by 3pm, I'd have to leave work around 1pm. My regular time is 5pm which means i'd be asking for a half day. My dad doesn't want me to go bc most people in my office are definitely not going except maybe 2 people out of 100-150. Other people who's workplace is located in NYC will go, but since i would have to leave so early he told me not to ask. I wanted to go - but i have no desire to debate it with my dad...

AFTER ALL, tomorrow at 6:30am I have to be in midtown Manhattan at the NYPD candidate relations for my medical exam, before i go to work after...so i'll just stick to Tuesday being eventful and stay at work today here in Queens, return a library book after work & pick up my two reserved new books. That's all, no worries!

since i need to be up so early tuesday, i'm not going to gym that eve, but going to bed early. i would have liked the gym - but i also like to get some sleep.

so gym and jogging will be quite rushed and erratic this week, needing to go 3 days in a row to work out. if i feel very sore for any reason, i'll have to skip a day.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

innerpeace on 10/30/2017:
I've seen both sides of the union. My DH needs a union where he is because he is treated like crap, they have no standards for performance or safety and he is always mad because of how they treat him. They have no 401K to speak of and their health benefits are crap. However, I've seen the union hurt good workers protecting those who never work and still expect to keep their job. So I get where you're coming from.

Good luck with your exam. My military exam was pretty in depth, checking every nook and cranny of my body - I hope it isn't that way for you. Have a great day.

horn_of_plenty on 10/30/2017:
i think my exam will be slightly easier than yours, as they simply don't check nooks and crannies and sorta just take your word that you are feeling OK!

But even without unions, there are good and bad workers...but yes your DH would be in better shape with a 401k!

unions, like you mentioned, are big on safety and security of workers. Hard to get the bad ones out - even teachers in NYC are mostly in unions - very hard to fire the bad teachers, but, the teachers are all lucky with GREAT retirement plans.

BearCountryGG on 10/30/2017:
We thank the Detroit Carpenters Union every month here when the pension check arrives...Denny worked hard for 32 years for what he is getting, starting at age 17 and taking early retirement at 48....Being a carpenter in Detroit isn't easy, some neighborhoods tear things down before they are even finished being built and it's a daily threat of pit cave ins and 10 story falls....and today he is dealing with damaged hips and shoulders but we are thankful because he was paid well, had good benefits and he could get out while he was still young...the union made retirement possible for us...and social security at 62 made it even better.....I do worry about the younger generations.

horn_of_plenty on 10/30/2017:
I worry too. I think that the younger generation is about to suffer greatly in the next MANY years...and that we are going to drop even farther before people realize we really are going to have to fight again for what made the middle class a strong middle class!

but deep down, i hope things never get as bad as they were when unions were first established which is i think around the great depression? or right after?

the world with trump and everything going on is a scary place in my mind.

i'm glad your husband received something for all his hard work, though sorry about his body physically...manual labor is hard on the body.

legcramps on 10/30/2017:
It's going to be an early morning tomorrow! I hear you about wanting more sleep; I am the same way right now, especially with having a cold. I keep trying to stay awake with bf to watch tv or a movie, and always end up snoring on the couch, poor guy lol.

Good luck with your exam tomorrow.

And soon enough, i'll be in the academy studying.

Boy has it been a very busy week with things going on most nights. Last night taking off the nails took 1.5 hours at the salon by my job. Way too long a time to sit there. I was home by 7:30pm (half hour drive away from work!). It was a bit much, i was hoping to be home way earlier,  but still i got to bed early around 9pm.

tonight i am jogging at the Queens College Track after work. I get out of work at 5pm and by the time i park there and change there, it'll be around 6pm. I'll be done around 7pm. It'll be dark through half the jog at least.  I wanted to ask to leave early but i'm trying to at least be responsible and trustworthy with working my assigned times here at work. I don't need to not do the simplest things right..if they aren't giving me work, I should be able to get here on time, leave on Time (as long as i get here on time!), and not ask to be leaving early.

So at lunch, i'll get another coat on my nails, she told me to come back today for free and i do need it!...then walk a little bit more so i don't have to walk tonight / run less tonight. Tonight at the track, I am thinking to stay briefly only for 1.5 miles. (not my 2mi or 2.5 mi run/walk). It'll be dark, I'll want to be home. I'll walk at lunch to make up for the lost time tonight at the track!

I have to buy kombucha sometime between now & tomorrow....

Boy has this been a SLOW day.  I haven’t actually had work all week – and it’s good. If only I worked a little shorter hours, tho.  But hey, I’m being paid a decent salary and saving like at least 14%...and I think I changed it to 17% of my paycheck now. So I have to deal with the boredom and sitting in one seat from 8-5 with an hour lunch….because it will end in two months. In two months my life will turn around in the academy – it’ll be fast-paced again, but I do believe the academy is one whole hour shorter per day than my current job, thankfully!

I’m so glad it’s Friday too. I was going to go home, but my friend asked me to dinner…and it’s sorta expensive. I’ll pay for my share but it’s just throwing away money and makes me semi-nervous. I just need to calm down & realize that in 5 years I’ll be making good money for the rest of my life and I’m saving what I can now, except I don’t save anything from my paycheck since a few months now. – meaning my take-home pay – I use it all and it tenses me up how I do this – but at least I don’t use my savings – I shouldn’t have to – as my salary is decent even after I put most of the money away. I did this on purpose – I put away the most I can and live off of a more moderate / lower salary bc I want to know the money is being saved for the long run & has time to increase over time – bc I know that the two years starting in January thru 2020, I’ll not be able to save much bc my salary will be at that time 15k-20k less. But then it builds.

I’m still paying off my credit card from the Vegas trip and my friend asked me out to dinner tonight. LOL. I have no money – I’ll have to pay on credit card or cash but then I’m out of cash – the credit it is. I have very little money on my debit – all which is going to be spend tomorrow to pay my rent. It’s not that I’m a careless spender, it’s just that I’m still paying off for the trip – this makes me so anxious and frustrated. I will not be spending much next month – most things I do will be either free or low cost / pre-paid. I must settle down with my spending. ! Oh, there will be one expensive day - $100 expensive at the end of November. Luckily, I also bought my whole family bday gifts. So the reason my cards and money are tight I guess is for good reason this time! Sorry. Very stressed over that.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

Happy Friday! Sounds like you've had a busy week - hopefully you will get to have a bit of a break on the weekend. Good job on your jog!

horn_of_plenty on 10/27/2017:
Yes, i'll make sure to get a little downtime on weekend, at least for Sunday night.

Maybe i'll wake up early Saturday also (not a good weekend to take any sleeping pills...i'd rather be up relaxing and being able to relax than sleeping!)

innerpeace on 10/27/2017:
You took the nails off? So are you just getting them painted then for another coat? I guess I got lost reading that. I had some taken off once and I had to soak for a long time to get that fill stuff to come off And it scarred my nails - well until they grew out. Have a great weekend.

horn_of_plenty on 10/27/2017:
Same here, she put on nail hardener...and i'll keep using it as my nails grow out also. Yes, my nails are WELL DAMAGED from the acrylic nails. They look ok while painted with clear nail hardener tho.

i think i'm playing around too much...i actually have so many plans to choose from my head hurts for this weekend...makes me want to do less or nothing!

Donkey on 10/28/2017:
Your story is exactly why I'm afraid to get nails. But they are so pretty, so I just admire them on other folks who are brave enough.

I understand your anxiety over money issues. You have a plan, but it just takes time. Breathe deep and trust the process. The older I get, the more it becomes clear to me how much "time is money, money is time" rings true...

Horn_of_plenty on 10/29/2017:
