I am gearing up for a gym workout...it will be on the lighter side, i'm sore in my lower half from yesterday's parade. afterwards, i'm going home to celebrate the New Year holiday with my family and my bday...a rush of a day, but it is what it is and thankful for it...i just gotta get out of this apt or i'll have to rush everything before seeing my parents, needing to get there around 3pm..which is quite early.

I turned 36 today and feel good about it. Overall, 35 had major challenges and changes regarding working and commutes and new coworkers and offices. It became VERY difficult with exercise and cardio and for awhile i was stuck and constantly falling behind due to scheduling issues and getting pretty sick in January.  In the end though, I finished the year strong and caught up to where I pretty much was this time last year!!!I Cardio is pretty decent now.

I see 36 as more straighforward. I think my opportunity to grow and become stronger will stay attainable all year long :)

I had a good, but extremely tiring, day yesterday walking in the Labor Day Parade...it's a big change to sitting at a desk all day...being up on feet from around 11-3pm straight...it's good for me, glad i went...and reinforces the importance to keep working out!

thank you J donk for the bday wishes...my mind lately is swamped sorry not to reply other than my own mind is wacky lately! nothing on your post that was wrong, no worries!!!!!

i do not follow many rules, especially not this year as i have been very swamped with activities and knew that i needed at least yesterday to get things done that needed to be done at a certain time frame. sometimes i go to celebrate with my parents and watch the services on TV, not this year as i feel i needed to use the days doing tasks which worked out well but today i just need to also make sure i am rested for work tomorrow.!!!! i'm glad i had the time off.

yes, totally logging into DD and even putting in my timesheet using the work program from home! awesome. i took sick days, which can only be inserted into the program on the day you take them or after. if i waited sometimes till going back to work to enter them, i'd have to wait for separate checks...not good if you wanna be paid normally on friday! so i'm glad that's fixed....

....yes, very cool on your fridge!!! a lot of folks by me i am SURE have that mode...we've got a lot of Orthodox jews around here that do follow the customs.

Saturday i was out all day....celebrating and Marching with the electrical union of NYC in the NYC Labor Day Parade. it was cool coincidence because of all the subways and stops we could get off, my typical work route was the way we took to get to the parade, getting off at the same exact subway stop (there's so many in NYC) that i get off everyday for work. The parade happens to be right near Rockefeller Center and that's also where i work!

I've not been commenting as much bc it's been a very fast paced couple weeks & will stay that way until this coming Monday, tomorrow!

Dinner: TBD maybe picking up food at lunch specifically for dinner :)

How Eating More Food Can Actually Help You Burn Fat

 

 

 

 

“Everyone wants to lose weight quickly, and many people make the mistake of being too restrictive,” explains Torey Armul, M.S., R.D., C.S.S.D., spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

True fat loss generally occurs at a rate of between 0.5 and two pounds per week. Any weight lost faster than that is either coming from water weight or muscle mass—especially if you’re seriously cutting calories. “The body finds fuel where it can,” explains Armul. “When there aren’t enough calories coming in, the body can actually break down muscle tissue for energy.”

When this happens, your metabolism takes a hit, explains Lisa R. Young, Ph.D., R.D., adjunct professor of nutrition at New York University and author of The Portion Teller Plan. Muscle helps you burn more calories at rest, so when you lose that lean tissue, your weight loss can screech to a halt.

Not to mention, when you drastically cut calories, you’re more likely to feel deprived and end up overeating when you do treat yourself—which can lead to weight gain if it becomes a pattern.

Sound familiar? If so, eating more—more of the right foods, that is—may be exactly what you need to finally start seeing the results you crave and drop fat for good.

“You shouldn’t be hungry when you’re trying to lose weight, and if you are, you’re not going to sustain it,” says Young. If you feel hungry throughout the day, you’re either not eating enough of the right foods, or enough calories overall.

“You need a certain amount of calories every day just to live, breathe, move, and support every cell and function in your body,” says Armul. Eating enough of the right foods helps you work better, sleep more soundly, crush stress, and burn more calories when you work out—all good things for your waistline.

Now, there’s no way around the fact that you still need to be in a caloric deficit to shed pounds—but if you load up on foods that are high in filling nutrients but low in calories, you can achieve that calorie deficit and reach your goals without stress or calorie-counting.

Of course, certain foods will have to go. Sugary breakfast cereals, frozen pizzas, chips, and fried foods, which are high in calories but provide little nutritional value and don’t fill you up, are off the menu. Think of it this way: You want as many forkfuls (or volume) as possible for as few calories as possible—and you can’t do that eating Hot Pockets.

Now, the fun part: Fruits and vegetables, which contain lots of water and fiber (fiber is super-filling and keeps you satisfied between meals), provide tons of nutrition for very few calories—so you can load up on things like veggie-based soups, leafy greens, watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, and more without the possibility of going overboard on calories

This article describes pretty much what I've been doing. Lots of vegetables, with hummus, full fat dressing or dip, butter with cooked vegetables.

It's worked for me.

yeah that’s basically what the nutritionist is helping me with. like I avoid salads because iceberg lettuce has zero nutritional value... but nutritionist says I need to add it in to trick the stretch receptors in my tummy to feel full.

Unrelated, but directly below that listing is a parade scheduled for tomorrow Sept 9th: Cinco De Mayo Parade. Thought it was a bit weird to have the parade 4 months and 4 days after the 5th of May.......

I want progress on Fitness in September, but instead it might just turn to maintenance as the last couple weeks i've only been to the gym 2x instead of 3x due to my own choice mostly.

It's been a VERY busy week - activities every single night and home around 8pm every single night, i'm glad that i have tons of leftovers and food at home so that i have been not using additional money on lunches here at work.

For a week that was supposed to be easy with gym days, i've been so distracted with other events that were both optional and necessary, that i've skipped the gym since the weekend. I have definitely had one less gym day this week. but that's in the past. and i can only go to the gym tonight at my earliest convenience, before i drop off old license plates at my dad's work so he receives them from me tomorrow!...of course another errand before gym this week!...and just keep on.

Nothing is perfect. Life is not always as planned. Things come up.  That's the theme of this week.

That's the way many of my weeks go. I end up running so many small errands throughout the week that I don't end up getting many of the things accomplished that I'd like to. And unlike you this week, I've often used that hurried schedule as an excuse for over-eating junk.

My life did slow down a bit over the last weekend, but instead of doing something productive, I just wanted to sit in front of the TV and vegetate.....

sometimes you need to veg, but there needs to be a plan for when you aren't going to...haha...i wish i didn't skip gym again this week...it makes me lethargic and sluggish and upset when i don't plan right. just a tiring week.

it's the worst when all the day's activities prevent a good workout or you're left sitting on your a** bc all the activities you go to are that way...that's been my week. lol...next week should be better.

snack: ready for sleep, will run outta here as soon as possible, perhaps getting a haircut before i go home. ended up getting haircut instead of gym...but really it's ok as i was going to get the haircut thursday...i fell to temptation...but, it's my life. at least i have a few really great gym sessions to come..tomorrow will be GREAT. and i can put all my new weightlifting stuff together with R this coming week...ah well, another skipped session this week. too many distractions.

gym tonight. last night i ended up at a meeting that ended after 7pm, home around 8pm too much on a night i was hoping to be home early, i don't wanna explain right now.  we aren't always "free" in our lives. if you can understand that. meaning, as long as i rely on my dad and others, i'm not "free" to always do as i want...that is life. but it sucked last night.

i am quite tired already. and gym tonight. tomorrow will have to be an early night.

I decided on gym for Wednesday instead :) very good decision on my part...i reviewed my schedule..so emphasis can be more on cardio & works better with all the activities i have thru this weekend.

I am working to CONTINUE making MAJOR changes in my life this year. It WILL require that I remember i need to schedule ample time to attain certain goals. With a new start of school year in my area and my bday approaching, my mind jumps to my own progress and goals. I am now able to run a mile decently. The only goal i have is to get BETTER at it. FASTER. I know how. I'm doing well. All i have to do is keep practicing. For this first time in many years, I'm really improving without having major setbacks...it feels wonderful.

working on it, yeah...sometimes, even in maintenance, the high cal weeks don't result in weight gain till later noticing after like 3 weeks...so it's not an immediate gain.

Happy Labor Day :-P

Skipped breakfast bc wasn't really hungry at all and figured i really splurged yesterday anyway!

Morning Snacks coffee and churro marshmallow treats i found bc got ravenous so had a few before driving home 200, plum 50

11am Brunch: English Muffin 100, 1/4 avocado 100, salami 100 sooo darn good. 300 needed this mix of carbs, fat & protein :) hits the spot, you know!? small bag lays chips 200

snack: whipped cream (back on the kick for awhile, yes) and sf jello 150. 

Plans for eating at the party: mostly veggies, a frank if they cook them...diet soda / water...i could always have a small serving of chips, but that's it...not overdoing it there as my cals for the week are already higher than i'd like...!

 before jog and bike..did this when i got home around 7pm...worked out so well!

cauliflower bread 100 with avocado 100 and chicken 200, plum 50. 450...craving ice cream..100.

Up and at 'em early...went for a MAJOR food shopping around 9am and home by 10:30am :) Went to a larger supermarket and loaded up on my favorites, snacks, fruits, veggies, and a package of ground chicken to make some healthy burgers for this week.

I am in the midst of having another busy few weeks in September before my birthday which is Sept. 9th so i bought enough things so that i only need to shop now for perishables each week...basically. loaded up on "fun items and snacks" so i'm good for awhile now..until the weekend surely.

I haven't had enough recovery time from my last workout this past Saturday so i'm going to do CARDIO today. which is even more important :) there will be an emphasis on CARDIO this month especially thru the New Year. :)

Seller on EBAY doesn't want to sell me the $30 workout bench lol bc they said it's not good enough anymore to sell !? so i'll have to look again on both AMAZON and facebook deals that are local :) I also will need to buy more workout equipment, gradually.. i need the longer weight bar in addition to the dumbells...the BARBELL so i can also squat at home with weights. i'm splurging a bit as of late and will hvae to go into my savings to cover the purchases...i may have to change how i'm saving my funds to 401k so that my paycheck is a little bigger so i can perhaps add to my current savings that i draw from...i should increase the money in the account i think...but for now i think i'll just pull from it to cover some purchases...and NEXT YEAR maybe i'll lessen my 401k contributions...we'll see...it's better to save now but lately i am DEF spending more than i have in my checking to cover..not a big deal...but i have to decide to either spend less or make up for it a different way.

they are really good, i guess they have cinnamon and extra sugar on top :) and a little oil i guess. they are good before a workout or for a sugar high lol...

i think the seller is playing games. i went back online to see the product they are no longer selling...they had raised the price from $30 to $55....i think the just want us to pay more for the same thing...either way, i bought one from Amazon instead...no games for me!

Cheering you on with the cardio! Yesterday, I was getting ready to mow the front yard (can't do the whole thing because of my back), and I put on my running shoes as "junky" shoes... Thing is, they aren't junky; they are still in very good condition - it was the last pair I owned before hurting my foot. The last time I wore them, was when I tried to resume running and hurt my back.

A big part of me still wishes I were a runner -- or rather, that I ran regularly. I just don't know if my back will let me fulfill that desire any more... but I wasn't ready to give up my running dream by ruining my shoes quite yet.

i am sooo happy that i am getting physically so much better now and it seems like it's a goal worth reaching for...

i know what you mean by saving things...like the sneakers...however, i'm glad you are wearing them now...don't save...live your life now as you can...what i mean is, do what you are capable of now...and try not to "save things" for later for when you can...

I ordered this cool thing on Amazon. It's a wrap made of cauliflower and egg/cheese. Great taste. good purchase. each one is only 50 cal, they are small. good ratio of fats/carbs/proteins. i had 4 of them for a tasty breakfast. like panakes.

 

Off to beach with C...just need to shower and shave first....getting a move on...she'll be here in around 25min!

Going to the ocean / beach is a once every couple year event for us. The closest coastal area is approximately 10 hours driving away, so the kids have only been seashell hunting a handful of times. While the beach is fun, the thing I look forward to most on those trips is the fresh seafood. Being a couple states away from the coast, any seafood that's served around here was definitely frozen.

wowwww...what a difference between my life and yours!

...my parents are members of a beach club and go almost every single weekend, many times both days, in the summertime! they both still work, so it's weekends only for them.

i don't go near as often as they do. they are much closer to the beach, around 20-25 minutes away whereas it takes me closer to an hour.

finally woke up around 9am and slow going till 10am :) woohoo! lovely. sleeping in!

10am: oatmeal and almond milk with a few strawberries 200, peanut butter 100, whipped cream 150.  kombucha now 50..plum 50...550

PRE-GYM: zone bar i had at home, 200 cal..

...going out now (i was hoping to get our earlier, but enjoyed getting organized and cleaned up before going out to gym today!)

 2 bananas while working out / caffeine also 250 (biking and gym were from around 1:30-4:30, excellent workout.

early 5pm dinner: leftover chinese 1 pan fried dumpling pork 150 egg 100, iceburg lettuce, chinese veggies in sauce 250. 500. 2 plums 100 AND DOING LAUNDRY...so it doesn't drive me crazy for the rest of the weekend until Monday night right before work that wouldn't be good at all!

Soon gym. at 1pm i should be there and workin' out..that's the plan for this AM. And biking both there and back....R fixed my bike breaks and i didn't think he could i didn't even know that they could be moved all around...he fixed everything for the BETTER (as usual it becomes better) ...fixed them yesterday prob took him like 1.5hours...we were just sitting outside near his garage. easy peasy. nice to get out of work early to have made all the plans possible with R yesterday!

Laundry in afternoon

out to a beach concert / playing shuffleboard / walking around with R tonight. 

It will be minimal food shopping / planning this weekend & for the coming week...will keep it simple and easier. I have leftovers also in my fridge for today thru the end of this weekend...just need minimal items for the 4day week ahead..i can pick things up on Monday.

I JUST PURCHASED AS A GIFT TO MYSELF FOR MY BDAY: WEIGHT BENCH, SET OF DUMBELLS, SET OF FRACTIONAL WEIGHTS SO I CAN ACTUALLY INCREASE GRADUALLY LIFTING FROM 30LBS TO 35LBS, WORKING POUND BY POUND...SHOULD BE GREAT THIS YEAR. NOW WHEN IT SNOWS OR I DON'T WANNA GO OUT TO GYM, I CAN EXERCISE AT HOME. NO EXCUSES :)IT WILL STILL BE EASIER AT HOME / DIFFERENT AT HOME, BUT A NECESSARY CHANGE TO ONLY WORKING OUT AT THE GYM. NOW I HAVE A SECONDARY CHOICE.

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 2 lbs to go!

Slept in myself today. I rarely ever sleep in and today made it all the way to 9am, about 2 hours later than usual.

sleeping in is good when you need it :) i tend to sleep much more when i am exercising well.

yeah, it's "about time" to get a time saver. it will be good since coming home around 6pm from work and then eating and getting myself out to the gym keeps getting later and later...i expect my workouts at home not to be as intense as at the gym, but, the important thing is that they'll be getting done and perhaps i will be able to go to bed more "on time"...and feel better for the week. that's the goal..to simplify things that can be made easier in order to stay on track! if this makes sense!

Good for you for getting home equipment!! I think you will find it helpful especially in the winter! Just don't fall into the trap that I tend to do once I get exercise equipment in my home. I set it up, and then-- I do not know why -- it's hard for me to use it!

My older, noisy recumbent bike sat in my basement for a couple of years before I decided to start actually using it -- and I used THAT to help me lose all my weight this time. When we got the new, quiet recumbent bike (for my husband, ha ha), there it sat for about a month, until I decided I would start using it for variation at night. I haven't used my mom's treadmill, but I think when the weather turns colder, I'll plug it back in and start doing a mile a day.

The fractional weights are a good idea -- especially for the goals you want to accomplish. Excellent!

yes, fractional weights help with increasing weights when weight lifting, but instead of automatically jumping up 5lbs, it could be done more gradually which means less chance of injury and easier time at increasing the weight :)

Coworkers went out to celebrate the weekend and one brought her daughter so we went out to a nyc NYC buffet: Scrambled egg whites 100,  sautéed spinach and garlic 100,  beef sausage bite and full turkey sausage 150, a nice big fried hashbrown 250, the best iced coffee with milk 50…650-700. Very filling, sorta sleepy now. Lol. 

... a chocolate before lunch. 

went out to lunch! for real! with Ricky at 2pm when i got home from work! a few pan fried dumplings but didn't eat all the fried part but def had some, around 5 middle part of the pork dumplings and some of the breading 500, and some cucumber salad 100, and some cooked veggies in sauce 250? 750

snack: decaf coffee and chocolates 200 

Ricky did some awesome adjustments to my bike...

then we watched a short movie, free on amazon prime :)...

now i'm home chilling. was gonna do laundry, but it never happened. gym didn't happen because weekend plans changed and i was tired after work and knew i'd rather wait till tomorrow, now that i'm free, to exercise when i'm not as overtired!

snacking at home before bed 300 plum and a natural bar of higher fat and some protein and carbs, a healthy natural bar.

did at least avg walking today. didn't sit around all day. decent.

No. the coworker that was putting me down has a son and no custody except for weekends. this coworker, with the daughter, is more like my boss actually and is the one i went to the acquarium with and also to the water park with her. ..

she also told me i need to work faster :( grrr...

i don't know who C is...do you mean R??? he wasn't there because he doesn't work with me and is also getting a new job.

the other 2 coworkers were male. i'm glad i started the day with healthy food.
