Donkey on 06/20/2020:
Whoa - serious flashbacks to my schooling days! I loved contracts and torts -- civil law all the way for me. Torts was hard, but I loved the challenge.

Legal research was a challenge, but I think I just needed more of it. I've never used it after school, but that could easily be a full-time job -- doing legal research for an attorney or a judge.

The course sounds very comprehensive - and that's what you want. You want to be able to see a document or hear a discussion or receive a directive and know what it is and what to do with it.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/20/2020:
I’m so glad you approve of the course ;) it’s def a good beginning and will be a wonderful certificate to have :)

Sounds like a very good day! We are getting mighty hot and humid here too, and I find that the mornings and evenings are bearable. However, I do still go for lunchtime walks. I just have to spritz myself with body spray, because as I told my boss, Nobody likes a stinky assistant.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/18/2020:
Good ideas on all fronts and I’m glad you do go out there to walk!

Horn_of_plenty on 06/18/2020:
it was perfect he drove - saved quite a lot of time / stress etc!

it went well, but they want someone who really is a PM! the recruiter told them about both maria and myself...so, gotta tell recruiter not to do it again when he calls bc maria isn't happy about being included in my interviews or having her name out just yet looking for intervies. she didn't even finish writing her resume....

they were nice, i sent thank yous. i don't think i'd LAST there.

happy-1 on 06/18/2020:
Hugs. You will knock all of this out of the park.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/19/2020:
thanks Happy...I will prob be back at work or at a new job and doing the course too...will be a little stressful, so hopefully i can get extra done in advance or something!!

got up early but moved slowly in morning...sitting down close to 11am after cleaning up apt a little bit to now look over another Excel tutorial i had on my computer :)

i have therapy telecall at 4pm until 4:45 so will do weights either before or after it (really thinking after).

Already did 10 min on  my stepper...nice and quick...for some cardio.

bearcountrygg on 06/16/2020:
Your oats always sound so good.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/16/2020:
Nice and sweet and satisfying, but doesn’t hold me over long bc it’s mostly carbs. But a light breakfast so I’m ok with that !!!

Donkey on 06/16/2020:
Good luck with the interview tomorrow!

Good for you for reviewing Excel! Really good idea!

Hope your therapy phone call went well. Do you think it's going as well as sitting with the therapist in real life?

Horn_of_plenty on 06/17/2020:
I think the phone calls are slightly less effective but still definitely helpful. Sometimes the telecall disconnects and wastes time and she tends to be a little distracted lately on the call

Donkey on 06/16/2020:
Also, I'm going to comment on your entry from yesterday.

i may have another interview, but still hoping to go to current company :)

______________________________________________________________

i set my clock to 8am, i am starting to get up earlier this week.  I took a walk on the earlier side and trying now (10:30am) to set down to study some Excel tutorials i have on my computer for my own knowledge.

I started and stopped many things during this pandemic time while i have been home approx 3 months:

- continueed reading about half of the project managment textbook that i own (then stopped because i felt it was repetitive)

- started to study my paralegal flash cards (but stopped in the middle for no reason, just didn't finish) it went well while i was studying

- bought a intro to stock trading book and was listening to it on audible but stopped around midway with it because i got nervous that it will not help me at all NOW.

NOW: bought a $2,000 3.5 month course on Paralegal.  it's not a great course, but it's a course with a certificate that can be helpful for the future.  Now that i'm still not working and the future is so up in the air, i have decided on this course for a few reasons, but the main one is i feel it's just the right time to try to get this course done and be able to add it to my resume in the future because there will be two tests for court assistant coming out DOWN THE ROAD like in 3 years....and this course and saying i took it is an advantage for me.  I feel i may still be out of work thru July and if so, I will be doing this course while still home.

It would have been better if i had signed up for this course earlier while being home during Pandemic, i could have completed the whole thing by now almost! But, I'm doing it to add it to my resume and i can list that it's a course i am taking that is approved by a local college. Like i said, it's not the best course.  But, many paralegal certificates were requiring internships which i could NOT do with a full time job...so i am satsified to take this course for a certificate.

Course starts in 2 weeks, i'll do other free things online until then and also start reading the textbook assignments a week before the online Paralegal course begins (meaning next week i'll be reviewing the books). I should be pretty busy now. and if i go back to work, it's going to be stressful with this course that is going to last into October, but, I feel this is the BEST time right now to take it & get it DONE for a Paralegal certificate.  It's 100% online. Lots of reading / writing.

yes, $2,000 was a lot to spend. but, yes, i have it in my savings and more. so i decided to use it now for it may give me a greater return later in terms of a permanent type of JOB.

i need to somehow get my options for future to widen up. so once i take this course, i can figure out what i am going to do next in terms of seeking more education. i still have 2 union courses i was taking one already...in my current field, but they are weekend courses in person and are on pause until further notice thankfully...i don't think the class that was on pause will even start in October yet, so it's good i do this Paralegal course now...

it does seem i cannot "coast" anymore with my job: no matter how tiring it is to work full time, it seems i'm going to have to keep studying & hope i can stay employed with this company i am still unemployed with because of Covid...

just thinking.

antoher reason i'm taking the course now, which i spoke of earlier, is that it starts in two weeks, and i feel it will end before everything goes back to normal....so i'm taking it while things are in the flux but will have it done also when things are still not normal. so i feel i'll have used the state of upheval going on now to advance my education and knowledge - and i'll have the certifiate to prove it.  this certificate is specifically beause i want it later when i am looking to apply to work in the courts in two entry level positions to open around 3 years, maybe more maybe less.

Progress as of today: -5 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 06/15/2020:
You can do it all...went through that myself with home, work and school at the same time......it really did force me to structure my time in a way I had never done before. It was rewarding and I loved it....and I didn't even mind doing my homework at 3 A.M. when the place was silent......as long as you have the drive to accomplish that you will make it work.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/15/2020:
you are right. i am sure it's going to be stressful as you know i love to "exercise" and lift weights...i will have to emphasize that stuff even less to do this course while i work...you are right in everything you mentioned. thank you for the advice.

grannyannie on 06/16/2020:
Well done on walking. Good luck on the course.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/16/2020:
Thank you so much!!!! :) it was a good walking day! today includes upper body weights - early tonight or possibly early afternoon! :)

Donkey on 06/16/2020:
I'm so proud of you for signing up gift the paralegal courses! I think you'll love it.

I give you a lot of credit for starting the projects that you did. Don't worry that you didn't finish.

Taking the paralegal classes will help you with time management. As long as you stay on top of the workload, you'll be fine.

So excited for you!!!

Horn_of_plenty on 06/17/2020:
Thank you so much! I really want to have it completed and I know it’s possible, even if I am working :)

Paralegal would be interesting!

Horn_of_plenty on 06/15/2020:
i'm taking the "fast" course. it's not the best course or most approved course, but it's going to start in a couple weeks and end in mid-october.

then, when the time does come (in 3 years or so) to do an application to work in the courts, i will say i took this course. i just feel the time couldn't be more RIGHT to knock out this 3.5 month course.

i KNOW the course will NOT help me right now, but i also know it can help me in the future when i might need it.

Always a good idea to brush up on Excel skills. Also, if you can find it cheaply, having Quickbooks skills is a good thing to have in the job market. It may not be applicable to what you're doing now, but there are administrative jobs that do want that. It's usually just so darn expensive.

That sweet potato dish sounds so lovely!

my skills are bare minimum for assistant proj manager in electrical.  seems many of the positions even want a bachelors in engineering or related business field (mine is education).  i'm looking. i may have an opportunity to stay with current company for a short time / moderate time longer. i'm seeing what is possible.  trying to see about any connections. i hadn't expected to need to get a job this early. we will see what happens. i may stay somehow with current company although i can tell that working in estimating would prob not be most desireable. i'm trying to see if i can be used anywhere else in the large company.

also, i was looking at admin assistant positions...most require previous experience at "calendaring" and making extensive travel plans for executives...i don't have that. i am thinking to take an online course starting on the weekend in "calendaring" with the most popular office / email software...

Progress as of today: -5 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 06/12/2020:
You will find a job....at least you are in a big metro area where there are many. Sleep going really well here too.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/12/2020:
i may even be able to continue at my job doing a different project, we'll see.

thank you!

Donkey on 06/13/2020:
I think it's good to explore your options as to what is out there, since estimating doesn't seem to be your "passion". Is it OK to say that? I don't mean to be disrespectful of the job or your efforts, of course.

Well done at the BBQ! I hope you had a good time! What kind of pie did you buy?

Horn_of_plenty on 06/13/2020:
it was a fruit tart and you are right about everything else!!!

somewhat worried about my employment situation for the future, but at least looking around at some options now - or rather just seeing what's on Linked In...i'm a little worried i may not be able to secure the same type of Pay i'm receiving now.

I think i may take an online Legal Assistant / Paralegal program soon, like Donkey's field.

Progress as of today: -5 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 06/11/2020:
Yellow raisins...haven't had those in years.....!! Sound delish

Horn_of_plenty on 06/11/2020:
i had also bought currants (like black raisins) but like the yellow raisins so much more!

bearcountrygg on 06/11/2020:
I just found some raisins and craisins here this morning....I think currents are tiny aren't they?

Horn_of_plenty on 06/11/2020:
yes the currants are tinier.

Donkey on 06/12/2020:
Just curious: the union doesn't help with job placement? I guess I'm not clear on how that works. But I applaud you for searching. Just getting started is half the battle.

I think you'd really enjoy the paralegal classes. I'm not sure I can recommend it as a career, but it would probably help you if you go for the court job in the future. Helps to network as much as you can.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/12/2020:
i'm still on a "temp layoff" and still "supposed to go back to my company".

yes, the union DOES help with job placement you are totally correct. seems positions can take LONG times to find. i know one person out 3 months (ricky previously was around 2yrs ago) and i know another person who was out around 6-9 months! worst case scenarios i'd think..

yes, it would help me (paralegal course) with a job in future...i need to see if there's anything not so expensive online out there.

grannyannie on 06/12/2020:
I see you're hooked on gummies. Are those like gummy bears that we have here. Very chewy.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/12/2020:
yes, they are like gummy bears exactly. they are sugar free. i think this brand is right now only in US or maybe also CA. it's called SmartSweets

Donkey on 06/11/2020:
Sometimes, it is more beneficial to take a break. I'm glad you enjoyed your time with your friend.

Food looks good! Lower calories, I noticed!

Horn_of_plenty on 06/11/2020:
Yes was so busy that it was simpler to get the low cals in !

grannyannie on 06/11/2020:
Looks good.

bearcountrygg on 06/11/2020:
Is pollock fishy?

Horn_of_plenty on 06/11/2020:
It’s a white fish that can easily take on the flavors of the dish - slightly fishy but not too much so :)
