Last TOM - 9/20/21....

Currently reading a NYPL digital book called "The Energy Bus." - to continue when i finish my class. - it's a leadership book.

2022 and beyond - Studies/Thoughts:

continue short advanced paralegal 6-week courses (there's a list of 16 or so and i plan to take up to 6 total; i am now finishing my 3rd) in 2022?  If i do all 6 of my choice, i can get a college completion certificate from an affiliated New York State college. i don't need it, but it's a good challenge. will cost around $1200 total more.

can prob get reimbursed this time for the above approx costs, unlike last time when i didn't apply for reimbursement in the same year so my window of opportunity for reimbursement closed. just saying, i can study "free of charge" as it was my father's money to me in a fund and still has leftover.

read about leadership on my own, do not pursue degrees/payable coures. study it on my own. I had been thinking to do a 3 course program as an "advanced degree" which is similar to courses thru a master's program. it's short, so it's still something of interest, but i'm thinking reading books about leadership/management may be suitable instead of paying a university...just thinking i have only like 15+ years of good working ahead of me...and that's just enough time to get into the courts and work there doing my best, prob won't become a leader.

...so that's why this is just good "reading material" and not necessary courses i should lay out money for. i'm 39, so in 15 years, i'm approx 55 (i think this is older than Donkey is now so she can relate in terms of changing positinos/fields...maybe also LegCramps can relate to this..)...- if anyone else has any thoughts, please offer yours! - Bear, InnerP, Jacky, Brett, Maria, etc..Kathy) and would prob have gotten up to whatever highest position i'll do for the rest of my life by then (i do not anticipate a lot of changes after that, of course you never know - but that's just my gut talking!) so, administratively, i don't think business courses are suitable now. a few more of the 6 week advanced paralegal courses would be, though. then, i'd be done with them by 2023. no more school after that, i don't think? and hopefullly applying for paralegal by then / it's called court assistant in the courts, actually.

NYS (New York State) courts has updated it's site, very very slightly, organizing the careers/professions that include public exams and which don't.  i've always known this, i'm just saying it's much more organized on their site - which may mean they are getting ready to administer tests again and also looking to educate the public for the public positions.

the site also includes some (very little, but it's been upated) extra reading material on the exams and prep. I will update myself. still no exams upcoming or anything, but the site has slight material added to it. so will take a look.

Business Law almost complete!:  (short classes are nice, 6 weeks of studies goes fast and gives a nice background to all these advanced paralegal topics!)

  • Week 6 due 10/6/21 - Corporations and other Business Organizations ( BB6, Writing 6, Final Exam....same plan, to do the majority of this week's readings on public transport during my commutes, rather than using up time at home during the week that i'd rather be relaxing after work and time on weekend i'd rather be spending doing the written work after readings...

9/27 Mon - maybe public trans in; reading of week 6 materials

Jacky82020 on 09/27/2021:
You plan to retire at 55? Ppl I know say they either can’t afford it or it gets boring. Maybe different if one has resources and something worthwhile/enjoyable to do.

Did you see the 100 year old park ranger on the news who’s retiring? Wonder Woman!

horn_of_plenty on 09/27/2021:
No - I’m thinking at 55 hopefully I will remain at that position awhile or work in relatively the same role from there until like 60+

horn_of_plenty on 09/27/2021:
I’ve gotta look that woman up!

But yeah, I will prob continue to work at least part time in my 60s most probably!!! I plan to work past 55 for sure - just don’t really see myself progressing to higher responsibilities after that age , although you never know

Jacky82020 on 09/27/2021:
Long time away! You saying it will take you until 55 to be settled in a profession? I guess I’m missing something. That seems unlikely.

horn_of_plenty on 09/28/2021:
no no, i am saying i don't think i'll be promoted much after 55...

I hope to be "settled" by 45-48, actually. maybe sooner. depends on NYS courts and if i get in. if i don't, i will have to rethink a bit...but i have good opportunitites to get my foot in the court door :)

so i hope to get in by 45; mostly settled 55 with maybe a promotion or so...and by 55 mostly working where i'll be, possibly small promotions.

Jacky82020 on 09/27/2021:
Well, I guess it all depends. The job promotions on the job.

Just gotta push through that homework. That's a good idea to aim for an early afternoon conclusion, so that you have the rest of the afternoon and then a calm evening. I hope it works.

Have a great workout! It was leg day for me. Oof!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2021:
it actually worked. assignments were easier, finished quickly. week 6 will def take longer, i see there's some videos to watch. might do that later tonight. :)..

nice job on legs, will do that also.

Jacky82020 on 09/26/2021:
Sounds like a yummy breakfast. Nice BDay gift for your father.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2021:
love to indulge when it's a late breakfast!

maybe i'll post a photo of the shirt later, as advertised on amazon :)

bearcountrygg on 09/26/2021:
Bet it feels good to have all of those things done!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2021:
very thankful the homework was simple so i have time to do some other activities also today! :)

Jacky82020 on 09/26/2021:
LOL. love Amazon. Lots of fish stuff like testing chemicals & food arriving from them.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2021:
posted the tshirt i got my dad :) simple gift.

Jacky82020 on 09/26/2021:
I love it! Awesome !!!!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2021:
:-D :-)

Donkey on 09/26/2021:
That is such a cool shirt! My step-father was a Papa too, with my kids. I really like this for your dad.

I really like your plan! I seriously feel that you need a break from studying. Three classes in 2022 is a realistic plan. I love that you plan to read & learn on your own. There are various aspects to business management. You don't necessarily have to limit yourself to business management per se, but say time management, personnel management, conflict resolution, motivation, etc.

I hope that you will be able to view some of the videos for Week 6 - that would be a great head start, and it's not reading or writing (except for notes you may take). Perhaps watching the videos first will enrich your reading experience. Anyway, it's a great idea if it happens :-) And if it doesn't, that's OK too!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2021:
omg, thank you for the ideas regarding materials to read for business management...and how i can look into the related fields which also relate to life experiences too...conflict resolution, motivation, personnel management, time management...i do want to spend some time doing this, for sure.

thanks for the reminder that there's a lot of related materials. you put it right out there, which was thoughtful and very intuitive.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2021:
will skip watching videos tonight, as it's already 7pm and i'm going to relax and be in bed early tonight :)

22.25 August Sunshine Hours!

Last TOM - 9/20/21....

Currently reading a NYPL digital book called "The Energy Bus." - to continue when i finish my class.

Business Law:

  • Week 5 due 9/29/21...Agency, Partnership, Employment - BB5, Writing 5 - my plan is to do the marjority of the weekly reading on public transport rather than at home. 9 of 12 pgs read...
  • Week 6 due 10/6/21 - Corporations and other Business Organizations ( BB6, Writing 6, Final Exam....same plan, to do the majority of this week's readings on public transport during my commutes, rather than using up time at home.

Because i got such a late start to today, i'd rather skip the workout for tonight and do it tomorrow instead....so i can do more work for this course to free up more time tomorrow...

Saturday  - any course videos, BB5, Writing 5 homework; weights workout/full body

slept in; and it felt good.

doing my laundry today; still have to clean gp cages later or tomorrow :) ...glad that's all done :); also organized some papers a little bit more than they were (throwing out all papers i don't need).

relaxing day; prob staying home all day today to get a move on the course and my exercises that i'd like to do (strength exercises).

With the course, i have to stay on track now; as the course is ending soon!  most of the work i did and learning i had will be forgotten, but there were a few challening parts of the course that made it worth taking. teacher didn't give lots of feedback like others, especially due to her having abdominal surgery and the course starting off track, but i can say business law intro was worth taking.

cardio rest day, most probably.

11am-12 1st meal: serving of mini cookies with choc coating and coffee 200, banana 120, yogurt 180 (mango yoplait regular type).

3pm meal: almond flour sm tortilla 100, chicken bacon x2 70...ritz crackers 200+...plum x2 100.

6pm snacks: coconut filled wafers, was ok. 150. 2 more wafers, trying to finish videos, didn't start written homework yet got a late start to everything today but at least laundry's done! 100

dinner: boxed veg soup, tomato type broth, with potatoes in it 200 i had awhile in my pantry to which i added salt ...and tofu 200

1650..

Sunday - week 5 homework continued? maybe done...

supermarket for fruit/bananas; think about veggies i'll eat for the week? microwave veggies in light sauces?

think about a bday gift for dad :) he's turning 69 soon...any suggestions? nothing too pricey, has to be thoughtful...maybe i make matching tshirts for him, my sister's hubby, and the baby :)

Horn_of_plenty on 09/25/2021:
ha! i'm having a sleepy day here too...

Donkey on 09/25/2021:
You are right to assess the need to stay on track. It's just a lot of learning material, but you will be very glad when it's over. And I'm happy to hear that you can already tell that it was beneficial for you to have taken the class.

I can't believe it will be October coming up so soon. This month flew by...

I predict that you are taking a nap as I type this ;-) Maybe not, though - it's getting to be dinnertime and kind of late in the day to nap. Kind of like your class, you're in the homestretch for the day -- it's almost bedtime, you can do it. (LOL)

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2021:
i did take a nap (after the late breakfast lol)

Donkey on 09/26/2021:
I wanted to thank you for your comments on my entry yesterday (Saturday). You made some very valid points, which I have considered. My place of employment is not a good job for primary income (unless you're an attorney). It's perfect for a married woman who has all of her benefits through her husband's job. Very sexist.

Look at Nice Lady: worked for small firms, solo practitioners, all of her legal career. She's left with nothing.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2021:
i'm glad i could give my two cents :) just opinions. i have no experience of being in "your place" in life or work, etc. glad to offer my opinions (as usual!)

Horn_of_plenty on 09/26/2021:
and if i remember right, nice lady doesn't have a husband or someone for benefits.

Donkey on 09/26/2021:
^Right, she had divorced her 2nd husband and he died 4 years later of cancer. That was about 3-4 years ago, that he had passed away.

I walked an hour after work thru the park areas and nice park of the neighborhood by work! was great. visited some blocks for the first time :) it was perfect weather (73F with full sun) so i wanted to get some nice cardio in :)

Friday - public trans ? - def should, have a lot to read; do not want to read much on weekend.

didn't take public trans, was rainy anyways, but got up early. spent a bit under an hour reading, but did find myself closing my eyes a few times between paragraphs. did the reading between 5:20am-6:10am or so. got a lot done as the reading material got easiler. just have 3 pages left out of 12 total. read 9. decent. will get sunny later, will walk by work before driving home.

breakfast: kombucha early on drive to wake up 50, coffee and banana 150, keto muffin 200..400...

snacks: 2 med chocs 100, small wrap chive cream cheese 150.

lunch: healthy - leftover tofu 50, salad with olive oil 100, pan fried healthier type of dumpling. tastes good. thai basil or something, would buy again. 250.  400.  pb crackers 150. 550...

snacks: on way home, around 5pm, peach large and kombucha 150.

7:45pm later dinner, some extra traffic plus i got the good walk in before driving home which was wonderful!: 3 remaining dumplings of a healthier variety pan fried 200, salad with olive oil and seasonings 100, too many cookies (2 servings) 300 cal..

1950.

may read last 3 pages of reading material tonight before bed if at all possible; then i can watch any videos and just get into my homework tomorrow; not just dull reading...

ty, i prob have just enough time to figure out how to do it; where to go! :) i have a friend actually that did it for me last time who had good pricing...i will go to her again. she did masks for my mom and dad last year :) so i'll do shirts this year!

Maria7 on 09/24/2021:
You are doing really well maintaining. Hope you have a good day.

horn_of_plenty on 09/24/2021:
thank you, i find it easier now. i also try not to snack too much or at all during the work week after lunch. if i'm hungry on the drive, i just tell myself i'll enjoy food when i'm home - seems to work for me...and then i have more calories available while home to use in the evenings and it's easier to keep cals down. getting used to it with this new job/commute this year (started new job in beginning 2021 / changed commute in June 2021...so finally in the swing..)

Have a nice day.

i also watch morning eating more, while working.

Brett on 09/24/2021:

I think you'll find section 6 to be a tad more interesting. Also, if you can knock the reading part out of the way - even a cursory look-over - the videos may be more engaging. This part (section 5) of Business Law is kind of dry, from what I recall.

Nice that you got in a walk!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/25/2021:
thanks Donk! i'm so glad i got that walk in; plus saw some pretty things during it. great exercise to end the week. i was very energized and ready to walk. loved that feeling.

Maria7 on 09/25/2021:
Looks like you've got a nice exercise routine planned for today. Hope you have a good day.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/25/2021:
thanks, thank you for reminding me to do it; no matter how much i get done on my course because i can continue with the course tomorrow. again, thank you for reminding me to do the exercises today xo. :) a nice day!

Business Law:

  • Week 5 due 9/29/21...Agency, Partnership, Employment - BB5, Writing 5 - my plan is to do the marjority of the weekly reading on public transport rather than at home. 3 of 12 pgs read...
  • Week 6 due 10/6/21 - Corporations and other Business Organizations ( BB6, Writing 6, Final Exam....same plan, to do the majority of this week's readings on public transport during my commutes, rather than using up time at home.

9/23 Thursday - after parking, walked for 15 min in dark for exercise; recorded, not best time to be walking outside but only available option to get some movement in and wake up before attempting to read my notes. (bc last time, i was nodding off in my car; so this time i drove in, walked, and went to work to study since it's open early).

drove in early (was a little late to take public trans, didn't want to be stressed about possibly being late; and the drive is very fast if i leave very early - so did a fast drive in) to study notes Week 5 - def should...have a lot of pages to read; do not want to read on weekend..

Extra banana 120

Coffee 30

Snacks/food: bar 200, wrap with cc 150, 2nd banana 120 candy 30. 500. few grapes 50.

Lunch: healthy mix of leftovers salad with olive oil seasonings 100, tofu 100, peach?, crackers a little under 100...avocado 150...450

dinner: i have food to choose from, leftovers, save my money...i had two large peaches 200, pan fried some dumplings of a good variety 300, low sugar gummies 100. 600...couple more dumplings 100 not too big, few small butter cookies 100.

1950...

walked 15 after work, since it was windy and cloudy even though it was warm, just to get heart rate up and not really sweaty before driving home.

Planning to walk later in the evening or just a bike ride at home; once i am home - it's hot out and i'm not wearing something lightweight...so i'll go home before any exercise. I wasn't able to study much this AM - too many work distractions to study at work, before work starts for me. ah well. lots of coworkers come in early, so they are there and i couldn't focus. reminder - TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPORT if i'm going to study. just writing...not that interesting info going on otherwise! lol.

Friday - public trans ? - def should, have a lot to read; do not want to read much on weekend.

The days are definitely getting shorter & more to come. Used to walk down a long hill to the football stadium in San Diego & wait for the trolley in the dark. Kinda creepy!

horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2021:
yeah,it is creepy to walk in the dark where not a lot of people are around. not good, especially thru a park or bad neighborhood.exactly!

Jacky82020 on 09/23/2021:
Yep.

Posted you a pic from Twitter.

bearcountrygg on 09/23/2021:
Not worth taking a chance with your safety walking in a dangerous area.....especially in the dark alone.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2021:
yeah...it's best a take public trans or drive to work with just enough time to walk but not too early walking...and i cannot study at work...too many interruptions (even before 7am!)

Donkey on 09/23/2021:
Better to walk than to nod off in the car, I suppose, if the area is safe enough. I can definitely tell that the daylight hours are lessening. And the sunlight that we do get isn't the same as in the summer. Not as bright. Even the sun is nodding off a little bit, approaching winter.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/23/2021:

How are you liking the energy bus book?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2021:
the book is written from an interesting perspective. there are great tips interspersed with a fictional story about a man who works in an office and is a manager who needs to improve his work and life. so the story plays out as the reader learns the tips. it's a little cheesy at times, but a good book.

i am almost 50% through. took a break from it to do this business law course. not reading the Energy book now.

however, when done with this course, i will get another loan out on the book (i'm reading it virtually on the library app). i will loan it out again to finish it. that's why i keep it posted here, to remember the name of the title. it's not a bad book, and it's good motivation and reminders.

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2021:
Tried so hard to whip cream cheese & yogurt. Impossible. They are adding stiffeners & I never dug that deep.

horn_of_plenty on 09/22/2021:
Stiffeners are cheap and I can look that up on weekend what I have used - hardly a calorie ! That’s a good idea

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2021:
Wow! I’ll check too But probably you cold do it better THANKS

Donkey on 09/20/2021:
Relating to yesterday's post, how are your ankles/legs feeling today after all of that walking?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2021:
a little tightness in left lower leg (back of shin) and ankle but nothing major at all! i do well when i do a lot of cardio followed by a day of rest or even two when i'm working. Saturday was very low key so Sunday worked out well. also, being that my dad did the driving, i was able to relax quite a bit on the way to the destination and back (and then drive home from parents). also, instead of eating dinner with them, i left my parents early to go home and relax. :) doing pretty well. and today is mostly rest day; no cardo.

bearcountrygg on 09/20/2021:
The dentist and a meeting at the same time...UGH!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2021:
may not attend meeting at all, LOL. i guess the meeting would be easier to attend than the dentist....but now i'll have clean teeth LOL.

Jacky82020 on 09/20/2021:
I need to take a page or two from your book & do more planning. Only time I was ever good at it was when remodeling the old Victorian money pit. And of course teaching.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2021:
planning helps me look forward to things and have goals....

but sometimes it does feel overwhelming like it never ends!

i will prob lay back from planning for the rest of the year to some extent.

and in terms of more education, i figure i can save my money and just read books on leadership, etc, as well as the other paralegal topics. i think saving money and not "going to school" is really what i should consider! haha...maybe i've had enough classes for awhile!

planning can help you if there's something new you want to get into. like a new hobby or project...

makes sense you had to plan for your home, yes. any project you do semi-successfullly needs a plan! :) xo

Jacky82020 on 09/20/2021:
Imagine 2 thumbs up!

horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2021:
Hahahaha I can do that ;)

bearcountrygg on 09/20/2021:
Those peanut butter cups look yummy!

horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2021:
They are a little pricey but have a nice flavor. Top ingredients no gas issues filling flavor

bearcountrygg on 09/20/2021:
I'm glad to see that they are making more low sugar things without the nasty fake sugars.....that stuff is miserable.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2021:
even chobani has began to make yogurt with stevia! finally! it took manufacturers so long to make candy without the other stuff! i do like real sugar, but sometimes it's nice to lessen it and just have the fat.

Jacky82020 on 09/20/2021:
They had some Stover sugar free peanut butter cups on sale at Walmart, but oh! The fat!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2021:
these are very good, many steps up from stover! i hope you would try these!?!? you may like them too much.... a little fat is good for you! :)

Jacky82020 on 09/20/2021:
I’ll take a look. Thanks!

Donkey on 09/21/2021:
Oh my those PB cups look dangerous.... dangerously delicious!

horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2021:
they are good; i like the flavor a lot.

snacks:chocolates 150-200

lunch:2:30 pizza approx 800? - parents and i ate halfway thru our hike/walk thru beach and beach towns. they are very fit to hold up. we walked for around 2-2.5 hours, resting a few times. (i rested the most, ha!)

9/20/21 - Monday Sister's 36th bday! boy does time fly! (celebrating earlier? on weekend?) see about it.

Not much pre-planning to come....unless i start making plans with family/friends...i will sign up for another course after finishing Business Law. there's, i think, 2 months rest period between courses when i take them with Center for Legal Studies. so that's good.  Overall, i have enjoyed all of them except 1. I have had all different instructors.  All were good, except 1. I have, to date, had 4 different instructors. so that's great that all were great except 1 - hard to communicate with and course didn't include multiple courses of instruction like videos, etc, just a textbook and then the final and exams weren't even off it only...lol. all other courses taught exactly what they should have and i attained a lot of knowledge from taking part ;)

Will be trying to lessen days off and wait to take them until real Winter, as in January...if i have to take one or two before then - ok, but i don't think i'll have to.

9/18/21 Saturday 9am-10:30am - Volunteering Cleanup @ Plumb Beach, Brooklyn Area.   Decided not to drive there. wasn't in the mood for a sorta longer drive or to volunteer. slept in a little more....

Rather than cardio, I will do weights, upper and lower, today; possibly a cardio break today.  I have a dentist appt on Tuesday at 6pm, so would rather just rest after that (hence doing weights today and again on Monday instead of tuesday)

did some laundry, may do some more tomorrow. (bed sheets, gp fleece)

Now onto Week 4 studies/work:

- Readings finished by noon. (DONE!)

- onto the videos - in progress at noon DONE!

- BB4 (bulletin board 4 assignment as they are called, students taking class can see others' answers after we submit ours - to compare and learn from other classmates) - easier assignments this week, DONE!

- Writing Assignment 4 - heavier assignment, worth more points than the BB assignments that are only with 10 points vs 100 points, i think, for writing assignments weekly. we cannot see others' work after we submit. ..easier assignment as well, DONE!

It would be nice to finish almost everything today...but i'm sure i'll need some time tomorrow as well..will be DONE!

8:30am First small breakfast: 2 of the keto choc pb cups 150, kombucha 50.

then, i did fall asleep later for an hour more....

11am meal after nap, 1 pancake 160, ran out of jelly, so had it plain as it was nice and thin and tasty like that; 1 more pb cup 80. 250 approx...may have a coffee also..50

12pm small lunch/snack: a leftover mashed potato/pea indian fried samosa. good size on it. 250? was tasty.  since cals are low and i'm doing work, i decided to indulge and fill any "hunger."...since i really just had some food an hour ago. so that was easy to fill up easily...

1:30 snack: last of the peach gummies, plenty more gummies exist here though! 100...

2:30 while doing laundry/studying...got snacky and into the ritz everything coated crackers. over 3.5 servings. 350 cals.

4:15 a yogurt that was very sweet, LaYogurt a mango yogurt marketed to Latino community...they have many marketing/types and with varying calories. this one was def sweet! 170, plus one chocolate and one milano cookie 100.

Will exercise - full body strength workout soon :)

1500....

9/19/21 Sunday - Finish week 4 studies/work :) i am no longer behind, but need to stay on task and on time with the Week 4 work, due 9/22/21.

I knew you'd catch up! I called it, week 3 or week 4, you'd be back on track. I definitely give you credit. I'm sure it was NOT easy, if your class was as intensive as mine; there's just a LOT to discuss in Business Law. Yay for you!!!

It's probably a good thing to take a break from pre-planning too much, although, to your credit, you've always allowed yourself the luxury of being able to cancel without feeling guilty, if need be.

Did you end up having a dinner last night? Or did you keep it kind of snacky? What is the brand name of the keto PB cups? You know, there are recipes online where you can make your own. I used to make a dark chocolate/peanut butter candy, when I was doing keto. However, rather than being separate, the peanut butter and chocolate were combined, melted, and then poured into an ice cube tray to freeze. So yummy, but they were called "fat bombs" for a reason.

horn_of_plenty on 09/20/2021:
i'll update later with photo of the pb cups.

great to catch up!
