I'm having a very tired day and may take a nap after finishing the research project since it's moving along quickly. then i'll wake up and do weights :)

i have promised myself to stay awake and not take a nap either though i feel rather sleepy for a couple hours now while i am doing my work bc this particular research assgnment has NOT been difficult and i want to get it out of the way so i can read later...and also get my weights done after a nap so i can have a little more vigor when i do them!

 Monday - Labor Day:

Leave apt 8:30am to pick up candle at 9am. - i was stood up by the seller, she didn't answer her door or my texts! i let her know, nicely, that i was dissappointed after driving 45 min there (it was worth it to drive there bc i had planned to go to a certain supermarket after - making it so even though i didn't get the candle, i was able to get cheap gas and some produce!). back by 11am.

1- Research Assignment #3? started around noon...with a couple breaks along the way..ended at very close to 4pm, it took a hair longer because parts 1 and 2 were easy but part 3 required more research! DONE!

weights later (in afternoon)...Starting at 5pm...will try to end them as quickly as possible bc i don't want to drag it out all night.

bike ride - short, half hour? or   cardio break most probably.

Week #4 Reading AssignmentsSKIM THRU ONLY?? - see if i can skim it fast or if it's going to be heavier material...hopefully skim so i can start working on the assignments soon :)

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

Donkey on 09/07/2020:
Wow, how rude of the seller. That's so odd. What was the whole point of THAT? People are so strange...

Well at least your trip was still productive if you were able to shop.

I applaud you for your productive day. I plan to drink lots of coffee and go to the gym with my daughter. I might go for a walk this evening.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/07/2020:
yeah, she only said, an hour later "OMG i am so sorry!"

i didn't respond.

LOL that's so wrong of the seller...she just didn't keep in her mind that i was responsible and would totally be picking it up like i said, early in the morning! she must have seriously been sleeping!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/07/2020:
and the strangest part, her home didn't have a doorbell...so i honked my horn quick two times, knocked on the door, waited a little while.

i did all i could! LOL

Donkey on 09/07/2020:
I'll just comment on today's entry: probably a good idea to do weights today instead of yesterday. I hope you had a good day at the farm!

Are you familiar with the theme song tol "Green Acres"? Do a YouTube search, if not.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/07/2020:
I actually grew up in a small neighborhood called "Green Acres!" it's name was changed to "Mill Brook" later because the neighborhood didn't want to be associated with the mall nearby bc the mall had a bad reputation for violence!

i will have to google the song, i forget how it goes!

yeah, i'm glad i didn't do weights yesterday. even today i didn't want to, but, i figured i was being a little lazy by not doing them!

the farm was spectacular. i sorta talked too much giving my opinions bc the group was very young, all under 30 except for me!

Jacky82020 on 09/07/2020:
That sucks, HoP. What kind of candle was it?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/07/2020:
some kind of large candle with a cactus blossom scent similar to the 3-wick from Bath and Body works...thought i'd get another great deal...but this one went sour!!!

bearcountrygg on 09/07/2020:
That was too bad about the candle but at least you turned the trip into something positive.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/07/2020:
totally...and i like to get out and drive several times a week if possible so that was good.

Horn_of_plenty - Sunday Sep 06, 2020
(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 113.0

Breakfast: 9am: hot cereal with the rest of the dried pineapple 250, coffee 50. kombucha 50. 350.

12pm  lunch before hard work at the farm from 1-4pm!: half a burger 200 with mustard on a wrap 150, some roasted brussel sprouts and leftover sauteed eggplant 100, chips 150. 600.

4:15pm-5:30pm snacks from ride home after volunteering 200 in granola bar / cookies, spiked seltzer 100 while i relax and re-start my paralegal class hw.  300

6:15pm...bites of leftover sandwich from lunch, some cooked kale 50, lots of salty and tasty pizza flavor goldfish crackers 300 (2 servings) (very tired from farm, was so fun!).

1600....

I will skip weights today to do tomorrow which is fine. i may lose some muscle since i think i skipped a day last week also...but i already got great exercise in today at the farm for 3 hours so i may just RELAX /  do some work, keep today's calories low, and go to bed early so tomorrow can be very productive...and it will be!

___________________________________________________________

So i drank half an energy drink on both yesterday (saturday) and the day before that. It had me so "up" that I was able to stay up so late and concentrate way more! Now i see why i was so addicted to them! After not having them for so long, because they also had very bad side effects like skin breakouts always after having them, I am reminded how powerful those drinks were! wow!

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

Donkey on 09/06/2020:
All of my daughter's co-workers drink those energy drinks. I've tried them and can't stand the taste. However, I could see that being me with Diet Coke. I'll just stick to my coffee.

That reminds me though -- with all of the recent busy-ness at work, I HAVE dipped into a can or 2 of Diet Coke - after having sworn off of them for about a year. They are so unhealthy for me, but I just needed a reason to live, if you know what I mean.

Enjoy the farm today!!!!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/06/2020:
yes, i know what you mean, that was my reasoning for the Monster energy drink...i was totally craving it and knew it wasn't going to "kill" me after having one! ha...! (and if a smoker did this with a cigarette, how funny, i would have NO COMPASSION!)

bearcountrygg on 09/06/2020:
Those energy drinks are scary to me...I have a 18 year old nephew that drinks several a day......I have seen too many people come into the drs office thinking they were having a heart attack.....when it was anxiety attacks caused by energy drinks......i even stay away from 2 cups of coffee back to back because how jittery it makes me.....( I'm such a sissy)

Horn_of_plenty on 09/06/2020:
yes, they aren't healthy or even natural in the least. it can def make a person sick.

i also can't do a lot of coffee bc i get jittery too!

Jacky82020 on 09/06/2020:
What’s in the energy drink, HoP.? Isn’t the active ingredient caffeine?

Yep, Bear, I’ve read about kids & others drinking too many and spiking their BP dangerously. I love coffee, but a big mug lasts me Until noon. The highlight of my year used to be the 30% off Starbucks beans after Christmas, but I have since found a Pennsylvania roaster who has much better prices. I wait for their annual sale too, and get enough for the year. Lasts a long time in those sealed bags. Used to freeze them, but the company told me they can easily last a year on the shelf.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/06/2020:
it was this Zero calorie (well 10 cal) can of a rose flavor for Monster energy drink brand.

it has caffeine but then if you google it the list continues and is quite long. lots of other energy components of things that "help boost concentration" and stuff to that nature. it's not natural and it's not good for you! but it tastes great and leaves me a high that lasts a very long time, especially after not consuming one in many months! but i won't start that habit again bc it makes my skin break out terribly!

Jacky82020 on 09/06/2020:
Wow, never had one. Will compare caffeine level to coffee

Horn_of_plenty on 09/07/2020:
it's not the caffeine that's the problem (but it can be bc some other brands - like BANG! - have too much caffeine) monster can = 2 cups coffee....it's the other cr-pload of ingredients that's also in it.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/05/2020:
i meant to say, after the morning, the issue cleared up!

Donkey on 09/06/2020:
It's very nice that you can break up your tests over a couple of days. I remember a couple of those final exams that were just *exhausting*.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/06/2020:
You are SO right on this. !!! these answers and questions take forever sometimes to finish!

happy-1 on 09/06/2020:
Feel better!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/06/2020:
I am much better. I think it was mostly the zero calorie energy drink!

Horn_of_plenty - Friday Sep 04, 2020
(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 113.0

9am breakfast: cereal 150 with dried pineapple 150, almond milk 50, coffee 50.

later some kombucha 100

1:30 lunch: I google searched the nearest place to get Poke which ended up being directly in my town and had a $5 off coupon. it was worth it, very filling, had some noodles and couldn't finish it all. more flavor than i remember. not my favorite food, but it satisfied my craving. tuna 200? dressing very light...noodles 200? other ingredients - 150> 550. then blueberries 100. then a BAD energy drink in a flavor i never tried. taking a break today from the "rules" and from everything, it seams! 650.

5:30 snacks: a protein/health bar called "go macro" almost 300 cal. but satisfying and tasty...got it today while out for a little bit at a CVS where i also picked up a small amount of seltzer. :) and grapes. 50.

9pm grapes 100, lots of chocolate 200, and i forgot the other item?100

Mostly no activity today but did go outside for quick errands and a little 10min walk along with 20 minutes on the stepper tonight so not a total loss.

1900.

Friday:

friend and I BOTH have work to do (she needs to prep for teaching) and we BOTH prefered to skip beach in lieu of doing homework! ha! I completely didn't mind this change as we all know that i've been wanting to progress on the paralegal assignments! :)

again, phone calls took up some of my morning, then i didn't get a lot done on BB3 before deciding to order lunch LOL. it was not that expensive, around $8.00. treated myself today as i only have eggs for protein so decided to get raw tuna in an Asian style dish!

1- BB3 - VERY CHALLLENGING assignment, taking most of today. It's based on fixing wrong  citations, but each of the citations is from a different court / system and therefore has a different format. The problem is that the format is wrong, so it's confusing sometimes what the RIGHT format is...and i have to search for a long time for each format because they are not clearly all on one page. It feels like a "challenge" assignment and will be, I think, one of the hardest of this course. Has taken from around Noon until...8pm!!!! there were breaks, but there were also continuous periods of working! and a phone call again which i was helping someone with something regarding work. DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! prob around 3-4 hours  of continuous work was required?

Donkey on 09/05/2020:
Oh I bet it felt so good to get the BB 3 assignment finished!!!

I know you're very focused on getting this coursework done, but I hope you do take a little time for yourself each day to get some fresh air. And I don't mean stepping out on the balcony.

Glad to see you'll be on the farm Sunday!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/05/2020:
yes...we'll see how i do. there's more than one way to get the right answers and i did it the "long way".

whenever i get the exercise in before the day really starts, in the morning, i am more successful with keeping my workout promise! so i def get a bike ride in today. but i am purposely waiting on weights until tomorrow so i can actually get some work done today :) it feels good. thank you for caring. you are right, it's important to still take care of my health! :) biking felt wonderful, i felt my heart rate and breathing increase and it was good. i don't feel that way as much when i do my cardio because i don't run anymore...

yeah, it should be nice to get out of the apt and do something nice on Friday. After all, how much of a hermit should i be right?!

the real deadlines make the last amount of work due on October 9th i believe. I want it done before that or mostly before that.

but also, some things are due by the end of the "week" they are for. but you can do work early also.

legcramps on 09/02/2020:
Oh, yes, we have a holiday coming up on Monday! Yay!

Enjoy your week, looks like it will involve quite a bit of projects and assignments. How's the course going so far?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/02/2020:
I'm glad you will have a holiday too on Monday! nice time for you to rest up more xo.

the second half paralegal course is actually going BETTER than the first half of paralegal. it's just as much work, but, so far the reading is a little less :) also, some of the course is based on using a internet program for law research and since i'm used to using different online programs and computer work, i've had a handle on it compared to other students i am sure. :) so it's going better right now!

Jacky82020 on 09/02/2020:
Forgot all about the Monday holiday! Doesn’t much matter. Sheltering in place as much as possible

Horn_of_plenty on 09/02/2020:
LOL yes...holidays don't mean too much to me these days (except that i feel even more free to see people because i know that i will not need to even think i'm getting a call for a job or interview!) ha!

Maria7 on 09/02/2020:
You've got a real nice schedule made out. Very motivating to read it. Inspires me to want to do more. Have a good day.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/03/2020:
Thanks Maria! I needed to make it out because it's overwhelming for me not to, in order to get the work done!

Donkey on 09/02/2020:
So happy for you! Those research assignments just eat up time.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/03/2020:
yes, they do! and also there's some "thinking" involved so i needed to take a break here and there to "reset" my brain between questions...it wasn't that hard, but a very repetitive assignment...like doing 5 mini research projects - all a difference legal scenario...but doing it 5 times - doing the process 5 times in a row! :)

:) good experiences for me right now.

Donkey on 09/02/2020:
An appellate brief is no picnic either, but you may enjoy the assignment.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/03/2020:
I'm already NERVOUS! ha!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/03/2020:
also a banana in the middle of the night, having trouble sleeping.

Horn_of_plenty - Tuesday Sep 01, 2020
(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 113.0

Good Morning!

For Jacky820, she asked what the main text i'm using is and it's the Statsky 2nd edition:

9am Breakfast: hot wheat cereal flavored cinnamon bun with almond milk 200, dried pineapple 150, coffee 50. 400.

11am kombucha 100

500

1:30 Lunch: tbd wrap 150, leftover small bit of salmon 250???, plum 50, chips 120.600 ...feeling full yeah.

(QUICK WALK to pick up a disc from neighbor after lunch, since i haven't gotten anything done i figured i'd do this errand now instead of later. LOL. grrr.)

snacks:seltzer mixed with tonic water (1 glasses over a long time period) 100 cal, spiked drink 100(procrastination / tired / not wanting to start this assignment - but i just read question #1 and it's not hard!)

added things...but DD not working...

1950 calories.

dinner: no real dinner just snacks all evening.

The schedule below is for me...more than you all!...and i actually emailed it to myself in case of any issues on DD...because it's a pretty good schedule and i don't want to have to do it again if i lose it!

I'm feeling sorta sad / lonely today. No more talks with my good friend "R" since our last argument.

In some ways, that may be our "final" argument as I am thinking that thru these 4 years of getting to know each other (first meeting around only 4 years ago), that we have been thru everything and there's no more we can give each other.

Our arguments have progressed and become more and more frequent. And if we cannot end them or come to some kind of mutual understanding, it's over as a friendship.

This time around, I will not continue to reach out or hold his hand in coming to some kind of apology because all the other times, the apology didn't last and the arguments came back worse and worse.

I won't accept this in a relationship outside of my own family. Meaning, i accept (somewhat) the fights within my family but not with someone that is a friend and no blood ties. I am not friends with someone for the arguments and when they are frequent, it's apparent to me that there's something not right in the friendship. If they stay frequent, even with some effort to discuss it, then the relationship may not be a good one to keep.

I will NOT give him an easy way out and try to talk or communicate because i've done this in the past. There's nothing more i want to do. If he doesn't contact me, I will have to deal and move on.

Even though i feel lonely, I have a lot of work right now at home...so there's that!

Up his! You don’t need friends like that!

That Statsky dude musta cornered the market on legal textbooks.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/01/2020:
Yes, it seems Statsky has published more than just the textbook (other even more useful Legal docs) and that he is known in the legal community!! He must have made quite a large sum from his publications!!

Jacky82020 on 09/01/2020:
Indeed. Maybe he’s one of those guys who gets lowly law clerks to do the drudge work and then he grabs the big bucks with his well known name.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/01/2020:
POSITIVELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bearcountrygg on 09/01/2020:
That is one thing with friends versus family.......friendships just can't take the same route.....I'm sure you miss the interaction with R but it does open a door for a new friendship that could be even better. ((HUGS))

Horn_of_plenty on 09/01/2020:
I do agree and feel the same way.

Maria7 on 09/01/2020:
Yes, peace if very important in ALL relationships and if you don't have peace, how can you be happy?

Horn_of_plenty on 09/02/2020:
thank you Maria. yes, a relationship cannot go on when there's repetitive fighting and arguing. especially if it's over the same things. oh well. :)

Not sure if i'll have job interviews, but that's the tentative schedule.

the course is 7 weeks, i'm trying to finish as early as possible in case of job changes, etc.

Progress as of today: -3 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

Donkey on 08/31/2020:
Love your weekly plan!!! It will be interesting to see what gets added and subtracted as we go along the week.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/31/2020:
yes, this is a basic plan and it's helping me TONS. not everything can be order if i don't even think of a plan. things will get skipped if i don't make, for instance, fitness a priority.

I def need the plan until i finish the second half this paralegal course...seems I have another week, at least, without work so this means i need to get the course done as it's a BIG hassle to do if i were working :)

bearcountrygg on 08/31/2020:
You sure are making good use of you time HOP

Horn_of_plenty on 08/31/2020:
I'm not making money besides Unemployment, but I sure as heck am learning some new things! :)

I hope one day this will have not been a total waste. I don't know for sure now...but I can only hope that one day I will have the opportunity to use this paralegal knowledge.

the Project management course was also a great use of my skills and time - to prove at least to myself of what i can do with the internet / making a webpage and just doing productive things.

at least my brain isn't total mush from all this time unemployed. it's def helped me be quite constructive.

as always, i'm thankful for this crazy time but special opportunities that I have decided on...we'll see what happens in the next month.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/31/2020:
well, i'm not thankful for Covid, but for the things i have done while home.

Jacky82020 on 08/31/2020:
You are such a busy beaver, Hop! You go, girl.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/31/2020:
thanks...i'm trying to be productive for this period of time that i'm not working. i had chosen to take a 15 week course and i just am trying to get it done a bit faster so if i have to work, i wont also have this course to do!

Jacky82020 on 08/31/2020:
Do you use print textbooks or digital? I was interested in a book and was shocked the going price was $165 for this little 200 page thing. You could get the ebook for $50 or rent it for 30 days, $10, on Amazon. So I got the free sample and boy did this book suck. It was someone’s dissertation. Boring and uninformative. Sounded interesting from a doc film I saw

Horn_of_plenty on 08/31/2020:
for this particular program, most of the textbooks were NOT digital or available that way. one way, but in the end i prefer them in paper form as i'm writing in them. yes, so expensive! I still enjoy my print books. i've read a few digital, which was nice too, but not for this class.

Jacky82020 on 08/31/2020:
Wow, they must have cost a fortune

Horn_of_plenty on 08/31/2020:
not too terrible bc not too many books. one textbook was pricey but the rest not as much..they were smaller texts and only one was hardcover. i think everything was 200? maybe less. i forgot.

Donkey on 09/01/2020:
I like your nighttime snack. I wonder if that's something I should do, too. Hmm..

You got a lot done on Monday and Tuesday looks productive too. Be sure not to sit too long.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/01/2020:
with my snack, i usually do NOT want to have a snack like that...but my dinner was a little "early" at 6:30 which is earlier than most days and i just knew i could have a snack and still have decent calories, so gave in easily since it also worked in my plan - i knew my calories so i was just like "what the H, sure i'll just have it" :)

Horn_of_plenty on 09/01/2020:
thanks for the sitting too long tip.

Jacky82020 on 09/01/2020:
Not too bad then. You can highlight and write in the rented ebooks, but I never used one. Occasionally I come across a nonfiction book and I want to read & swoon to realize it’s primarily a textbook. Outrageous prices! If the book is widely used, I can often get a cheap copy on eBay or Amazon (from 3rd parties)

Horn_of_plenty on 09/01/2020:
yeah, usually i am a 3rd party type of buyer too. I even bought furniture on Facebook marketplace bc i do like to save! :)

I hope you have a nice visit with your folks! It's been so long since I've had family that we could visit with on regular occasion. Growing up, we used to visit my grandparents once a week.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/30/2020:
it should be nice, especially the BBQ hahaha! maybe i'll get some food to take home ;)

i forgot, we'll be celebrating my sister's hubby's bday! i have no gift or card...oh well.

but i do have a mask for my sister, mom, dad...didn't think to get her hubby a mask. so maybe i'll just give the masks to my mom and dad for now! save my sister's for another time! so it doesn't look like i only forgot her hubby! LOL.

bearcountrygg on 08/30/2020:
Have a nice visit today...Like donkey....we don't see family too much since we are spread out quite a ways apart.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/30/2020:
thanks BCGG. my family, immediate and dad's parents have always been all located under an hour away from each other. :) it's always been nice and easy to see everyone frequently.

coffee&calories on 08/30/2020:
It sounds like a nice visit! My family lives close to me too, I see them all regularly :) Just wondering, how long did it take you to get to this weight? Did you stick to a certain number of calories while losing? Are you switched to maintenance calories now? Thanks!

Horn_of_plenty on 08/30/2020:
ah, great questions. i like to look back and discuss my experiences :)

This time losing the weight was interesting. I started...even before I turned 30! and now i am almost 38..

So, i was turning 30 or so, and made a lot of changes in the year or so before. I was at a horrible high of like 135, almost 140, pounds after i went back to school but also got into some bad habits.

Pretty much, for several years from 28yrs-33yrs old and around the time of my sister's wedding for sure, i maintained more around 120-125 at the absolute highest. I have an injury too, which forced me to lay off and not exercise during a lot of this time. bad ankle.

for sister's wedding, spring 2016, i set a goal to finally and for all get to around 115lbs. and i did it.

since that time, spring 2016, i have maintained - a little up here and a little down there. but mostly maintained.

my calories have gone up a LOT in maintenance.

When i dieted first time, early 20's, my calories were always pretty low and i'd end of bingeing. I do not do this anymore...

i have found a way to maintain and in the past 4 years i have eaten so many things i wouldn't touch the first time around. yeah, i'm def in maintenance. and i try to exercise and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

compared to many, i don't exercise all that much in terms of cardio, but, i try to do it moderately. and for weights, that's a big thing i'm into. my routine is easier though now, but i stick with it.

so yeah, been maintaining for around 4 years, have had some struggles and where i'm uncomfortable as the weight creeps up, but not even to 120. not past that. i don't let it go too far because it's such a darn struggle to push back down again. and i don't want to buy all new clothes!

ah, so to answer your first question in a briefer way, from 28-33, so like 5 years the second time, to lose approx the same amount as the first time - 25lbs.

the first time was like 1 year, maybe a little less, to lose around 20-25 lbs.

second time around, i was stalled / stuck many times in like the mid 120's and lower 120's before reaching the teens.

Thank you so very much for the detailed response. It helps shape my expectations a bit. What would you say you were eating to lose weight? 1200 calories or more? What about maintenance calories? It looks like you get to eat a fair amount! Amazing job!

before the wedding, it was mostly under 2000, and very much around 1500-1600 like maybe the month before the wedding...but def lower calories the couple months before, but not as low as 1200 because i'd done that in the past with little success of being able to maintain calories that low and would lead to bingeing.

maintenance calories are very high for me. i think i maintain even slightly above 2000 (like 2000-2100). but, i try to keep it below right now, or at 2000 or so most days, because since i am mostly home it's easier to get up late and eat what i want because my schedule is a lot more free...so i'm going with this opportunity to maintain my weight more easily and lose if it happens. instead of my usual 115lbs, i'm seeing 112-113 lbs due to less stress, more sleep, and slightly lower calories right now. i eat often, lately more snacks than usual. my metabolism has improved also due to continuing weight training and not eating such low calories like i did when i was in my early 20's (when i did 1200 and such calories a day but i also didn't weight train so i burned less)

This reminds me precisely how I did it in the past, but started second guessing if I really did eat that much to lose weight because everything on the internet pretty much says differently.

THANK YOU!!! Very helpful xoxo
