(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 113.0

woke up, drank some leftover spiked cider, freshened up, cleaned gp cage, took short walk to buy cream cheese and eggs - the only things i need for this no sugar added cheesecake! came home, put gp fleeces in the wash, breakfast time :)

11:30am later breakfast: apricot chobani yogurt (was on sale, bought just a couple) 150 added in some of my cooked cranberry spread 50, 4 vanilla wafers that were on sale too (they ran out of my favorite which is chocolate filling ...but these are fine too!) 150..350...and some coffee 50...

2pm gummies, fruit flavors, Sunkist brand 150

4pm tastes of cheese cake mix 50, later a good split pea canned soup with added in extra, extra veggies 250.

6pm small dinner: leftover deli chicken small bit 50, chips 200, neighbor dropped off some home cooking of turnips that I tried already and stuffing which was really good 150

1250.

small muscles: my biceps have always been small compared to my shoulders...so in the new year, there's one thing i want to work on actually...i want to figure out a plan for bigger biceps...which might even mean lifting lighter hopes, but i hope not...or i may add in ONE exercise for biceps...one more...will do research in the days to come!!! :) i want to see if i can acually grow my biceps a little, this year, to match my shoulders.

Mini crustless cheesecakes - come with a cafe / coffee flavor Hershey's kiss (what I have ) and some with sprinkling of pumpkin pie spice lol. Wish I had jelly...oh, my cranberries !!!

bake cheesecake today!!!

Days ahead:

cook brussel sprouts...waiting to eat up other stuff first...

cook mashed potatoes...waiting to eat up other stuff first...

sweep/dust wood floors / clean bathroom

dye hair / roots so i have not an ounce of gray - do this closer to the New Year, but soon in case i mess up!

bearcountrygg on 12/26/2020:
we ate up our cheesecake last night...was good.....but it did have sugar......interested in how you make yours without sugar.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/26/2020:
mine will have sugar too, but, no "added sugar." so, instead of adding regular what sugar, i'll add something like either monk fruit or erythritol or allulose, i will choose based on what is in my kitchen cabinet. that will be the only difference. everything else will be the same. it'll just cut some calories, that's all...switching to a low sugar alternative sweetener instead of sugar.

Jacky82020 on 12/26/2020:
Love cheesecake! Used to bake NY ones, a bit dryer than others. Now the husband buys them from the Walmart bakery, usually the variety cake. Love the chocolate slices, frozen.

horn_of_plenty on 12/26/2020:
Take a look ! I used what was on hand - some have a Hershey’s cafe flavored kiss and some sprinkled with pumpkin spice...will add some cranberries to some !! Trying to give to neighbors

bearcountrygg on 12/26/2020:
They really look good!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/26/2020:
thank you... will not add my cranberries to the ones i am giving my neighbors bc i am not sure if i was using dirty spoons when i was taking some of the cooked cranberries for myself...and don't want to contaminate the food i give to neighbors on purpose! LOL thank you! :) i have found that using a small serving size and baking everything in muffin molds is good for giving out to people ;)

Jacky82020 on 12/26/2020:
Yummy! I want one. Or two. Or three. Etc

horn_of_plenty on 12/26/2020:
Did you know it Includes some lemon juice ? Thankfully I had a lemon bc my only lemon juice contains basil in it - accidental purchase ! So I’m glad I still have a few lemons in the fridge !

Jacky82020 on 12/26/2020:
Been so long since I made cheesecake that I don’t remember if Lemon’s a common ingredient. I remember lots of cream cheese, sugar, eggs, flour and vanilla .

Horn_of_plenty on 12/26/2020:
it called for around 1 tbsp...glad i had it!

yes, mostly it was cream cheese!

instead of sugar, i used a low calorie sweetener

Jacky82020 on 12/26/2020:
Wow! Some kind of foreshortening going on? Your arms look huge and the hips/legs really skinny

horn_of_plenty on 12/26/2020:
Lol I’m mostly standing in a strange posture and it’s also giving a more defined look to my arm bc of it ;) but my arms are strong - my legs are not! No definition at all there ! I don’t force anything on them anymore either !!

Jacky82020 on 12/26/2020:
Hah! So you know how to pose like all those chicks in the muscle magazines! Cool.

Have a peaceful day, HOP!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/25/2020:
thank you, it's a rainy & windy day, just laying low, mostly off the internet ;)...Merry Christmas to you!

Jacky82020 on 12/25/2020:
I’m eliminating yogurt from my diet, just threw away 8 cartons. Reducing dairy. But when I did eat it, almost everyday, nonfat plain Greek with cocoa and decaf instant coffee stirred in was my fave.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/25/2020:
right!? you can't go wrong with those add-ins. i also stir in stevia, of course!

too bad i'm not your neighbor, i'd come over to pick up that yogurt!...LOL, you could have donated it!

then again, you are not one to want to interact with the public during Covid! :)

Jacky82020 on 12/25/2020:
Wouldn’t know who to donate it to! Lol. Thought those places collecting food always ask for nonperishables & purchase, meat, dairy, produce etc from big vendors. Or get donations, idk

Horn_of_plenty on 12/25/2020:
True. only good way (in my mind and what i'd do!...because i am a nut!)...is to drive / walk around and find someone in need and give it straight to them! ...that's easy around here.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/25/2020:
you're right...most don't take perishables so easily.

Maria7 on 12/25/2020:
Thank you and merry Christmas to you, too! I see that you are still volunteering. I know they are happy for your help. Hope you have a wonderful evening, HOP.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/25/2020:
Merry Christmas, Maria!

Yes! still volunteering. Last session of my volunteering will be next week. Then, I have a feeling it will be over for a long while.

I'll heading back to work, g-d willing that's the plan, in the New Year. it will be a lot to get back into. I'll also be taking a somewhat short online class...and want to keep my exercising routine...so i have feeling that'll be enough for the Winter season!

anyways, have a nice weekend!

bearcountrygg on 12/25/2020:
Sounds like you had a good day...I LOVE lazy days!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/25/2020:
wait...is it me or you like to be productive!? haha...well, i was extra lazy for you ;)

but at the end, decided on a weights workout, so i don't have to deal with that tomorrow ;)

Jacky82020 on 12/25/2020:
Not possible here, HOP. I live in an upscale neighborhood. They’d think I’m crazy & dial 911. I kid you not.

I do leave food out for the wild animals. Deer, turkeys, raccoons, possums, squirrels, chipmunks etc. Not a one ate the kale or any yogurt. Very unusual for food to go untouched overnight.

Maria7 on 12/26/2020:
Wishing you a happy day today!

Donkey on 12/26/2020:
A good idea to spend the day relaxing! Aside from my morning bike ride, I had about 4 hours of productivity, and the rest was just relaxing. Took a nice long nap with Baby Kitty on my lap.

Donkey on 12/26/2020:
I find baking to be very relaxing and therapeutic. I know you said cheesecake, but have you thought about making bread? It can take a few times to perfect the techniques. It's also a lot of "hands on" with the kneading. If you plait (braid) the bread, then that's more.

horn_of_plenty on 12/24/2020:
Yes it seems nephew only has it and seems sister may not have it or just be asymptotic and I guess my parents didn’t get it luckily! So sister is with her child back in the city and away from my parents so everyone can remain healthy :-) thanks for asking! And yes the cooked cranberries are quite perfect in the oats making everything sweet - I should skip the raisins next time or just use less ;)

bearcountrygg on 12/24/2020:
I'm glad to tried that with the cranberries...it sounds good.

grannyannie on 12/24/2020:
Happy holidays!! Peace.

Donkey on 12/25/2020:
A foot massage sounds lovely! Do you find it helps?

Horn_of_plenty on 12/25/2020:
i find it feels so great!!! :) yes. i tend to have some tension / soreness near arch of my left foot and it helps tons. it's a good tool and i should use it more. I also like that it gets the blood flowing, possibly, by massaging my feet and not just sitting on couch with them up off the ground.

i think it helps. and it's better than doing it myself!

Have fun volunteering today! Kind is sad it's good-bye for now, but what a wonderful experience you've had there! (Same for the Senior Center)

I loved Bankruptcy Law. That's an area that's very paralegal involved. And I think we'll be seeing a lot more bankruptcies in the near future.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/23/2020:
yes, it was a good last time, found a great spot too! little traffic also :)

i will get thru that course somehow, hopefully learn a few things, while also starting work (fingers crossed). i'm sure i'll be BUSY enough!

bearcountrygg on 12/23/2020:
Looks like a few breaks for a few days.......but you are probably ready for a little quiet time too......

Horn_of_plenty on 12/23/2020:
yeah, i was hoping it wouldn't be a break for as long, but there's not much going on during holiday week in the volunteering world anyways!

i'll see about some cooking, perhaps...

also need to clean my bathroom (can you believe how easily i put that off!?)

and i'm sure i'll get back to weight lifting that i've not done this week due to being quite tired from volunteering, not wanting to strain my body.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 12/22/2020:
HOP, mind if I ask how often you weigh in? You are always 113. I weigh daily and it hops around. 114,4 today. It will not stick. Will rise as high as 116s before stabilizing that low. Could take a full week. Unrelated to caloric intake. So idk. But it always like that. I use the Fitbit scale that’s right in the bathroom where the iPad sleeps & the reading goes to the Fitbit app.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/22/2020:
Yeah, my weight has it's fluctuation like most people too! Daily just like you, but probably a little less daily fluctuations in terms of highs and lows than you because i am maintaining...

I do not weigh often. I just leave it and do not change it here. If anything, I may have lost 1/2 lb to a full pound due to eating a little lighter as of late and more of the volunteering workouts.

My weight does rise with hormones as well depending on cycle stuff.

i don't weigh often because it doesn't have a good effect on me, emotionally/mentally. If it's too high, i'll get upset (and i can tell based on clothing anyways if it's getting high! - don't need a scale to tell me to watch it!)...and if it's too low i might get shocked lol...

....so i weigh when i feel there's been a fluctuation. usually, it'd be 113 in the morning, before eating and gaining a 2-3 pounds over the course of the day from eating/etc. usually i gain over the course of a day, lightest in the mornings like most people.

now i'm towardss 113 at the end of the day, which is lowest i've been in a long time...probably since around this time last year.

when i head back to work, whenever that is, it will be hard to maintain this slightly lower weight because i'm going to need to be up longer hours of the day, eating more often, etc...ugh! it'll be at least nice to head back to work thinner rather than heavier! ;)

since i'm in maintenance, for a long time, i don't like weighing in often at all. it's not part of my routine anymore.

when losing weight, i weighed in often.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/22/2020:
and yes, there are fluctuations weekly and daily as yours does...but not enough for a weight change too much in either direction overall. and like i said, over the course of a month, there are times when it's slightly higher by a couple pounds and then when i'm not bloated back down up to a couple pounds. fluctuations have to happen, yes.

grannyannie on 12/22/2020:
Brussel sprouts are the 'official' vegetable at xmas in the UK. I don't mind them when hubby or my sis in law make them.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/22/2020:
oh really!? how are they prepared usually in the UK!?

bearcountrygg on 12/22/2020:
I love brussels sprouts...mashed potatoes going on here today too.

Jacky82020 on 12/22/2020:
Be a long time before I get to 113 evenings. Only weigh buck assed nekkid when I get up. I wear the loosest of clothing, always have, More than enough male interest for many years. Also like being comfortable. I get these joggers aka sweats. Have nice striped appliqué. Most are black, a few maroon. Stocked up online at Boscov’s. Loose! Wear black leotard like tops, also loose fitting.

I need to do some stitching on my favorite flannel pajama like pants. They are literally falling to my ankles. lol. Snipped the waist years ago when new. Was twisting the waistband for a while, but now it takes too many twists and the pants are crawling up my butt!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/22/2020:
might as well stitch them instead of buying new - good idea!

bearcountrygg on 12/22/2020:
Hi HOP...Hi Frankie!!! Food looks good!!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/22/2020:
thank you! :) i'm glad i did some cooking, no reason why i couldn't today...home all day!

bearcountrygg on 12/22/2020:
I bet a spoonfull of those cranberries would be really good mixed into a bowl of oatmeal!!!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/22/2020:
that sounds like a good idea, to get me out of my desserts for breakfast...perhaps tomorrow or next time i am home (thursday) most of the day!

Jacky82020 on 12/22/2020:
Delish foods! You and the piggie are such cuties. That pig landed in hog heaven,

Horn_of_plenty on 12/22/2020:
awww thank you! i'm in heaven with them too...except that Frankie later peed on me, for having him out of the cage too long! :( it's ok, doesn't really smell and i just put what i was wearing in the basket to do whenever i do my laundry, thankful it doesn't smell at all.

Jacky82020 on 12/22/2020:
lol. So funny my Pug/Frenchie is also a Frankie

Horn_of_plenty on 12/22/2020:
you told me that ; xoxo

grannyannie on 12/23/2020:
Cute pic!!

1400....

Prob bed early. and if i'm smart, i'll do upper body weights tomorrow (if my shoulder / upper body feels ok!) because i'll be too tired to do them on Wednesday since i'm volunteering for probably the last time on Wednesday at the River Fund....

Tomorrow will be a relaxing day, i'll cook my veggies, etc.

I'm annoyed the woman wasn't home (not her fault) to take the boots since i was 15min late :( ...at least I was able to make the other family i dropped shoes off happy!

Just going to relax the rest of tonight. I will have awesome pics from the composting. cool operation, i'll tell you that! also, now that i see I cannot sign up again because it's full for next Monday, I'll wash my boots (they stink like VOMIT...that's what composting smells like!) It was SO FUN!

Monday, Dec 21st:

Composting at Queens Botanical Garden, Weather permitting...9:30-12:30pm - check if they have parking...and also in my head i'm wondering if this is still happening on Monday...

  • drop off 1 pair boots .sold for $5:) added in a free small coconut water (free for me) from pantry work ;)...SHE WASN'T HOME, i was 15min late (traffic and i had to take an important phone call during the drive and had to park on the side of the road to speak on the phone)...we'll see if she wants them still, the drive was not that great, so if she doesn't want them, i am sure someone else will want them on facebook!
  • drop off size 6 boots to buyer around 2ish.. added in free small coconut water ;)...also sold two more pairs (size 7) to him, total was $10 for all three pairs of shoes  (nice father...couldn't charge any more!) ...and 3 nice small single servings of coconut water...it pays for my gas.  I saw his cute little son and older daughter, they were smiling and happy. :) What a sweet family!

Tuesday, Dec 22nd:

  • Refill laundry card & drop off stockholder form to housing
  • cook brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, leftover collard greens smaller amount / recipe
  • rest up / review volunteering & future endeavors including class starting date in january - "just do it"

  Wed, Dec. 23rd :)

Richmond Hill, Queens, River Fund Pantry 8:30-12:30pm

  Tuesday,Dec 29th :)

Volunteer again at Senior Center in Corona; just 2 hours, 9:30-11:30 - take the 2 buses again most probably - too much snow taking up parking spots right now...

  Saturday, Jan 2 :)

The rescheduled nature walk at Alley Pond Park, but weather permitting (otherwise i can volunteer for a few hours? at Richmond Hill?)

  Saturday, Jan 9th :)

Ridgewood Reservoir Cleanup with NYC H20, Brooklyn, should be fun!..there's some parking usually so i'm not going to regret this! :) Leaf Raking.

1/4/21 (cannot disuss more)

Long term future goal: volunteer on weekends at a law firm / pro bono...to get that experience ON MY RESUME for the FUTURE. Goal is to be able to say i have 1 year of volunteer experience in legal work. This will happen.  Like, I live in NYC! so if this can happen anywhere, it's here.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 12/21/2020:
You are the queen of volunteers!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/21/2020:
thank you...today was unreal, i hope to get the photos in my email...I didn't take them, too messy for a phone. one of the workers was taking them.

Jacky82020 on 12/21/2020:
All that volunteerism should play well on your CV!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/21/2020:
ha, you would think....will write back more later ;)

nowadays, NOTHING is ENOUGH.

you should have seen the workers in action today. HOLY MOLY!

2 girls, both around 28-30yrs old.

doing the entire composting operation THEMSELVES with us helping as volunteers (3). and one woman doing a little work that worked there, also, but she left early...

heavy stuff to lift...driving tractors...these women, who worked there, simply AMAZING. both hired only in October. both defeating all odds. INSPRIATIONAL to say the least. it is a crazy world out there...they both got the jobs thru other jobs they had at the Botanical Gardens. it seems it's all thru experience and background for these environmental jobs. unreal. i cannot imagine doing what they do, everyday, i do not think? HARD WORK.

bearcountrygg on 12/21/2020:
Hope your stuff sells.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/21/2020:
Out of FOUR shoes: 2 I sold and got paid for to a nice family man getting them for his daughter. I showed him then a pair of cheap sneakers, he liked them, I gave them those additional ones for free. Total $10 here.

My other boots were going to be sold for $5, but lady wasn't home...ugh! we'll see if they sell on another day, I've put them back up on facebook again.

and hopefully someone will buy the hamster food i have (neighbor gave to me, I have guinea pigs not hamsters...lol and it's different food slightly).

legcramps on 12/21/2020:
I'm very excited about 1/4/21 for you ;)

Horn_of_plenty on 12/21/2020:
me too :) not a dream J*b....but it pays the bills. ha...and i guess that is VERY important.

Jacky82020 on 12/21/2020:
HOP, I am working on a volunteer list for you. Will gladly fly you NWPA or provide transportation of your choice. The gym downstairs has a kitchen, bathroom and small bedroom off the main room. I have interior painting, pruning shrubs & trees, scrubbing floors and bathrooms, and some composting so far. Can you work on cars? Matt is rebuilding a 1973 Opel, cute thing, looks like a baby corvette. Meals included.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/21/2020:
OMG...that would have been what fun! I'd fall asleep so fast every night! maybe in the future! sounds like i'd learn some skills...painting, etc. we could work together hahaha

Jacky82020 on 12/21/2020:
Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention unlimited gym use. Sure that’s assumed, lol lol lol

The husband works with a guy named Sabio, it’s his last name and he thinks the guy is Italian, not sure. These ppl are in California and he’s here in Pennsylvania

Horn_of_plenty on 12/21/2020:
yeah, online on facebook i saw many with the last name Sabio! some spanish i think and some italian i guess like you say, interesting!

i think with all the volunteering, i'll be TOO TIRED to use the gym hahahaha. I am not sure i'd last more than one day...may have to take every other day off...am i still invited!? ha.

Jacky82020 on 12/21/2020:
Always amazes me how hot compost gets. We have an open trailer that hitches up to the car. Primary use these days is to haul leaves to a recycling place that makes & sells compost. Our leaves are partially composted.

We also take branches there, but they have to be separate from the leaves.

Bought the trailer when I owned the big Victorian and went to all these auctions & estate sales to buy antiques.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/21/2020:
Yes! learned today the best range for a composting pile is 120-160F...! learned that today.

today's pile was at 125F (due to cold weather around it...in the summer it reaches those higher temps!) you know your stuff, Jacky!

that's great you bring your leaves.

the place near me is yearning for more FOOD WASTE...the most important part that they have the least of..

Jacky82020 on 12/21/2020:
Lol. You’re so funny, HOP. Yeah, Matt was wondering if Sabio was Mexican at one point. Hard to tell. He’s never met the new hires & they all speak perfect English except this one Chinese lady that’s very frustrating because he can’t understand her. She gets snotty when he asks her to put someone else on the line. He also has customers in India and Japan. Mostly their English is good. Think they start learning in elementary school.

Jacky82020 on 12/21/2020:
Interesting. This county facility only takes leaves & branches. Don’t understand why they call it a recycling center, The finished product is a nice rich looking soil that ppl come in & buy. The center is free to county residents & we have an ID card. Out of county ppl have to pay. I see a lot of big landscaping companies there paying to dump leaves & branches. Since we have 7 acres & many huge trees I’m so glad we have this free service.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/21/2020:
That's good...this place makes a VERY RICH composted soil...it contains also food waste. That's the key ingredient.

They do layers, like lasagna...

Leaves that have decomposed a little bit, followed by food waste...followed by saw dust (i think it was?) which helps to retain moisture..and they keep layering like that and mix it all up...later there's a PVC pipe with holes in it for extra aeration that goes under it along with wood chips...keeping it aerated which keeps the oxygen moving and therefore speeding the process to becoming fully composted. i think the food waste yields an even better product than just leaves.

they use it at the botanical gardens, i guess, where this is taking place.

Jacky82020 on 12/21/2020:
How interesting! Do they get restaurant waste?

Horn_of_plenty on 12/21/2020:
they might...they get the food from some independent people who drop it off (but not much from independents)...as well as some major facilities that are throwing out the waste that the botanical gardens partners with...it's mostly not from residential food waste...perhaps a large restaurant, but mostly larger partnerships than that from what i can tell (like a farm partnership or other places...they are looking to get more food scraps)

Horn_of_plenty on 12/21/2020:
they are actually in an area that's in a perfect location to restaurants to get the waste, but it's a big deal to collect it, store it in a freezer, and not get roaches and other things instead...it's a hard task to tell people to store their waste in a freezer to be collected 1x per week...

Jacky82020 on 12/22/2020:
Yep, that would be difficult unless the price of disposal is significant. I have read about how restaurants sell used oil. They can keep it! Sounds gross as hell to me. But idk. Maybe it’s put to good use like creating energy.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/22/2020:
maybe i'll try to donate mine once in awhile !

Jacky82020 on 12/22/2020:
lol

Horn_of_plenty - Sunday Dec 20, 2020
(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 113.0

10am muffin 200, pb 100, kombucha 50....

12:30pm lunch last of my Chinese flavored broccoli 50, fried eggplant 150 in a wrap 100, grapes 100, half an alcoholic beverage mixed with seltzer 100...500, coffee 50

3:30 chocolate filled wafers 160

5:30pm, early dinner, from volunteering several weeks ago, i THOUGHT i had many frozen large veggie burgers...NOPE! upon further look at the labels, they are frozen naan (flatbread) with a filling. well, that's not so bad, as they are handmade and quite delightful with lots of seasonings!  They aren't cheaply made.  The naan has two very thin layers of a top and bottom and a very thin layer of a potato spiced mix and then lightly pan fried is my guess. not the healthiest, but not so bad either! maybe like 300 cal for it, a good size. i had a full fat greek yogurt to follow sweetened with stevia. 150. 450.

7:45 snack lower sugar gummies 100

1650-1700

bed early, never did any cooking. That's for tomorrow.

Sunday

Planning a shower before anything lol...last time i showered lol was the night before yesterday - now shower yesterday bc i didn't necessarily sweat and just wasn't it for it when i got home...i just changed out of my clothes...lol...so i need a shower...LOL...haha...DONE!

Laundry going on :)...full loads of darks, lights, and guinea pig fleeces <3 for my sweet piggies. DONE!

Rest day, planning to cook up more veggies that I have in my fridge...brussel sprouts...and maybe some collard greens,

Maybe use my electronic foot massager ....

reading some of the Woodstock short stories while holding my guinea pigs :)

going to bring my shovel back to my garage outside and see if any snow needs to be shoveled from directly in front of my garage. May bring up a few waters fromThe pack in my garage as well. ...someone was really nice and shoveled the front of my garage (most of the other garages weren't shoveled, so someone did me a favor! i think it's the person on the other side of the garage wall...i'lll have to ask/thank her when i see her!)

will take out a bag of frozen cranberries to make my easy cranberry sauce that I eat - have frozen cranberries from last winter maybe like 2-4 bags in the freezer to use. Would go well with my Greek yogurt maybe tonight or tomorrow.  I used to make also a cranberry jell, but i'm only in the mood for the sauce right now, no extra volume...the jell was even more low cal, and bigger volume which i'm not interested in.

selling a few boots/footwear/ hamster food for very cheap on Facebook and deciding if I should go ahead and purchase brand new warm office ankle boots for myself, would rather bot, so will look on eBay more. Money will not be "rolling in" like it did in my prior employment where I prob made 20G more than I will now. I'll still be fine but will not have as much extra if I want to save it for my future as well! So I'm determined to learn to be quite a bit more thrifty with my cash in the new year.

Monday, Dec 21st, Composting at Queens Botanical Garden, Weather permitting...9:30-12:30pm - check if they have parking...and also in my head i'm wondering if this is still happening on Monday???...

Refill laundry card & drop of stockholder form to housing

Wed, Dec. 23rd, Richmond Hill, Queens, River Fund Pantry 8:30-12:30pm

Tuesday,Dec 29th volunteer again at Senior Center in Corona; just 2 hours, 9:30-11:30 - take the 2 buses again most probably - too much snow taking up parking spots right now...

Saturday, Jan 2 Richmond Hill, Queens, River Fund Pantry Giving Out for the 1st time on their VERY BUSY distribution day...8:30-1pm  (may cancel volunteering because i'm doing the rescheduled nature walk at Alley Pond Park, but weather permitting...so waiting for a closer weather forecast before i remove the volunteering for sure!)

1/4/21 (tbd work position ) - cannot disuss.

Long term future goal: volunteer on weekends at a law firm / pro bono...to get that experience ON MY RESUME for the FUTURE. Goal is to be able to say i have 1 year of volunteer experience in legal work. This will happen.  Like, I live in NYC! so if this can happen anywhere, it's here.

grannyannie on 12/20/2020:
Ohhh foot massager sounds nice. What do you do with the cooked veggies? Just microwave them later?

Horn_of_plenty on 12/20/2020:
yes microwave....and also many times i eat them straight from the fridge...i microwave when i'm cold or feel like a warm meal only.

Donkey on 12/20/2020:
A day of rest is probably a very good idea, especially if you were on your feet for most of the day yesterday. And being out in the cold - both can tax a body, although you are younger than I am, so maybe not so much.

I would be curious to know if the composting event is on for tomorrow too. I thought once the snow came, it was kind of over for that.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/20/2020:
yeah, it taxed me a bit being out in the cold, my ankle is a little sore but nothing too bad and feet a little tired, it's nice to just rest today since tomorrow is just volunteering (composting) and it's just 3 hours max and then i'm home...not like i need to function fully all day for work just yet! then, i would prob not have volunteered all day yesterday.

Jacky82020 on 12/20/2020:
How long does unemployment last in NY? Are they extending it due to covid? Looks like the Feds will be adding $300 a week. Unemployment lasts 6 months here, never followed any possible extensions, but heard they were under discussion.

What are office ankle boots? Sound all nice & toasty.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/20/2020:
Unemployment i believe is usually 6months. it has been extended once already, ending by January. to be extended again (i believe the federal government is in charge of extensions, not NYS)...and it will be lengthened by 4 more months to start with the initiation of the new bill that's coming out of the senate to include $600 stimulus checks...

yes, there was no extra money the last couple months, but seems $300 will be added to the next rounds when the new bill is finalized for 2021 unemployment extensions.

i wanted some sort of ankle boot that has some warmth to it...i'm used to freezing my a$$$ off at the office...and my only pair of "nice" boots has no warmth at all..and the other boots are pretty old, so i'm trying to sell them on facebook for like $5 or free even and just charge to drive them to the person...i have just found a pair of clarks boots with a leather/velour? mix that aren't necessarily very warm but prob more comfortable than the clarks i have that are only leather. found them on ebay, will be approx $35 with shipping, used pair. good enough.

i'm going to start being really thrifty bc my income will be sorta low for many years, i am thinking. i will save as i can, and care a bit less about fashion now that i have many staples in clothes/shoes i shouldn't need to keep buying every year for things that don't change much...

Horn_of_plenty on 12/20/2020:
leather/suede mix.

Donkey on 12/20/2020:
PS Excellent goal to volunteer at a legal clinic, for ideally a year. I think even if you could "shadow" at an intake desk or something indirect like that, to get started...

Horn_of_plenty on 12/20/2020:
yes, i just need to get into it, like you say, no matter what the position...could be a good start.

i haven't done more researching yet. i could have today. would be a good goal for me, for tomorrow, to start looking again to at least make a list and save it of places i could volunteer at. i'm still at the very beginning of my research and using copy/paste it should be easy for me to make a list on word or excel.

I volunteered the whole day 8:30-3:30 wow didn't know I would and just stayed .....

7:00am breakfast muffin and pb and drink 50

10:30am snack bar and hot choc/coffee mix 200

no lunch...skipped it bc I wasn't real hungry and saw others still working! Crazy day!..there was catering but i decided i'd have it later, which didn't happen haha. no biggie...feels good when you are moving / working. unlike any office job where it's particularly hard for me to work thru any hunger! LOL.

home around 4:45pm...

4:45pm-5pm sweet snacks: took off clothes that were outside, wiped down my phone...baked apple leftovers with raisins 150, cupcake 200, wine cooler 100 (wouldn't you just want carbs after physical activity?!) any real meal can come later or tomorrow!...450

8pm dinner leftover fried chicken 300, wrap 100, high calorie alcoholic margarita beverage 200

1600....goodnight :)

  • nature walk cancelled and rescheduled...so, instead:

I will volunteer at the River Fund again, Saturday - may also take busses there, parking around there is not good now - snow is taking up parking spots...but i'd rather volunteer at a closer place to home....where i'd only need one bus to get to in half the time...eh, i've never been to the River Fund on a Saturday, so i'll just go there and check it out...should be crazy busy since around 2000 people come on Saturdays for food!...

Sunday, planning to cook up more veggies that I have in my fridge...brussel sprouts...and maybe some collard greens.

You are getting to meet a lot of new people, that must be fun.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/20/2020:
yes, even met someone yesterday during a slower point !

Donkey on 12/19/2020:
Wow, you stayed the whole time! Great! What you said about working straight through and not really having lunch - no way this would happen in an office job. (I'm agreeing with you.) Even on days when I'm very busy, I don't forget to eat. That's one thing that makes these "slower" days a little more difficult.

And you're right that working does make it more difficult to volunteer. I'm so glad that you have brought this up, because while I do have ambitions to do more volunteering, when we're really busy at work, I **NEED** that time off to just be at home and do nothing but take care of myself and my home. I really don't like that. And I told Male Co-Worker that one thing I hate about the job is that you can't ever really leave the job. Even if you have coverage, you come back to a million mistakes.

Donkey on 12/20/2020:

Horn_of_plenty - Friday Dec 18, 2020
(counting calories/walking/elliptical/weights)
Weight: 113.0

Edit: So, for approx 9 out of 12 months of this year, I have been free from actual employment.  I have had the time to sleep ample amounts, schedule my days basically however I wanted...study what i wanted, volunteer how much and wherever I wanted. Met amazing people.  Went to the beach with my parents.  Pet lots of animals and had fun harvesting and weeding on a farm...got physical exercise doing so many great things. These 9 months have been, basically, one of the freest times ever of my life.  I will never forget this experience because I had more freedom than i have ever had.  Very thankful for this, not covid, but the rest of the good that came from it!  I had good times cooking in the Spring and lots of fun short day-trips and in the Spring and Summer.  Life continues on, and most importantly, i hope to use some of the "skills?" i have learned while volunteering.  Perhaps the biggest one is to keep my eyes open, look to always help someone, and be kind!?  Honestly, that is basically the gist of what I learned. Also I learned how much it is physically harder for some people just to get around, without a car, with their physical jobs...how grueling it is.  Beyond these things, it's just little things. This is the majority of what I learned. Be kind, try to help others, and try to work harder for whatever it is that I want.

Good Morning...i somehow got up on time even though i forgot to set an alarm...and since i was volunteering rather locally, the commute using two busses was still under an hour which is typical for commuting with the busses to a somewhat local but farther part of Queens, if that makes sense...lol.

8am Breakfast: cupcake 200, pb, 100, drink 50. 350.

12:30 snacking once at home: gummy bears, finished a package with two servings left. 200; tonic soda (diet) 0

1:30-2:30pm lunch: leftovers of from sauteed cabbage/onion/peppers/tomato 200, chips 200, larged baked apple from mom 150, small iced coffee 50...def not craving any meat or fish at this very moment...will have something later for dinner with some protein in it.

5:30  dinner: fried chicken, not too much, 300, on half a hamburger bun bc the rest was covered in too much sauce for my liking (free food from Wednesday) 100. 400, and went over the edge and grabbed 4 wafer cookies...200.

8:30 during arms/legs full body strength workout gummies small amount 70, 30

1850...

  •  Will do my weights (upper body) workout later and also a lower body workout with squats....it's starting now to get late, almost 6pm, so i should get on with this..., just starting, in progress, may skip lower body and just sit on bike, not sure...FULL BODY IN PROGRESS...
  • working now on contacting a few of the last firms i applied to work for - ones that i was emailed from job postings that i should follow up...hmmm...we'll see if that helps..later decided just to do one, because something else has possibly come up...so, that leaves me to reading and getting to the exercise later...pretty much skipped this activity bc i think i have something that will work out in the very near future, but cannot discuss more at all...

Friday, Dec 18Corona, Queens, 9:30-11:30am - just something sorta close and a short period of time...to stay busy and give back without a full/longer day of work, just a short morning standing up, Volunteer to pack small meals for seniors at a senior center...

I will take public transportation bc of the snowy local roads / parking lot maybe not cleared at the senior center...and to practice a commute in messy weather since it's only two hours of volunteering which gives me the time to take public transportation and still get home with reasonable time to do other things the rest of the day!  :)

  •  saturday or sunday, planning to cook up more veggies that I have in my fridge...brussel sprouts...and maybe some collard greens.

  • Tuesday,Dec 29th volunteer again at Senior Center in Corona; just 2 hours, 9:30-11:30 - take the 2 buses again most probably - too much snow taking up parking spots right now...
  • Saturday, Jan 2 - Richmond Hill, Queens, River Fund Pantry Giving Out for the 1st time on their VERY BUSY distribution day...8:30-1pm  (may cancel volunteering because i'm doing the rescheduled nature walk at Alley Pond Park, but weather permitting...so waiting for a closer weather forecast before i remove the volunteering for sure!)

  • 1/4/21 (tbd work position ) - will not discuss or say more.
  • Long term future goal: volunteer on weekends at a law firm / pro bono...to get that experience ON MY RESUME for the FUTURE. Goal is to be able to say i have 1 year of volunteer experience in legal work. This will happen.  Like, I live in NYC! so if this can happen anywhere, it's here.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 1 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 12/18/2020:
I wonder how far a bus can go in an hour...with all of the stops

Horn_of_plenty on 12/18/2020:
NOT VERY. hahaha...the bus does go fast, rather, but not FAR. but this area i was volunteering requires a highway that the bus did fly along...just stopped everywhere else. one is such a local bus, it stops every other block when it got to my area...so i got off the closest possible stop bc it's just cold and snow's all over the place ;) i used to always get up with some time for walking...not this time!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/18/2020:
within the hour, it probably only went around...6 miles?

Jacky82020 on 12/18/2020:
All the volunteerism is so admirable! I say we clone HOP!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/18/2020:
LOL...HOP is ALSO on unemployment benefits right now...HOP has a poor track record with employment...so don't clone her! hahahaha

i'm having a lot of fun staying active though, volunteering. IT WILL WORK OUT :)

THANK YOU for the kind words, JACKY!

bearcountrygg on 12/18/2020:
I kind of figured it didn't make too much distance...when we went to NYC we took busses and I don't think we really got to far but we had parked the truck in the port Authority and that is where it stayed...When D saw they way they drive there he didn't want any part of it...and he was used to Detroit....LOL

Horn_of_plenty on 12/18/2020:
yeah, Queens / city drivers are NO MATCH for out of state folks! hahaha....i do understand.

also, with no parking in the actual city...best to commute by bus and train unless there's some private spot or spot designated to you in a building garage.!!! totally with you !!

Jacky82020 on 12/18/2020:
HOP shall overcome!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/18/2020:
WOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! better believe it!

Jacky82020 on 12/18/2020:
2000! Do they drive through in cars? I’d wear goggles, gloves, and 2 masks. Actually I’ve done that. The 2 masks are uncomfortable, the top one squishes the lower into your lips & nose. Saw ppl on TV doing that so tried it. once

Horn_of_plenty on 12/18/2020:
They actually walk thru...with their carts. The go thru one side of a house, thru the backyard where all the pantry items are set up, and out thru the other side of the house backyard...will show photos...but not new photos, old ones i have, because AS YOU KNOW, i'm not gonna be seen by cop Sabio with my carmera...! haha..will wear one mask only..but take another one with me to change into for the ride home so i can feel a little cleaner and warmer instead of wearing the used, snotty one!

Jacky82020 on 12/18/2020:
lol. Always thought it was easy to sneak pics with cells. Not that I tried, but so I’ve heard.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/18/2020:
it is...i do sneak pics most places...but i'm not even trying with him....he catches me every time...he's got this eye for the the "bad guys" and i don't want him to fully change his mind about me!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/18/2020:
but i can say...i can't wait to see him tomorrow! hahahaha

Jacky82020 on 12/18/2020:
Smart not to risk it! He’d probably get suspicious if you knew someone else there who could do it. No pics if you google his name?

Horn_of_plenty on 12/18/2020:
HARDLY...there is one, but i'll share it with you another time if you are interested...they are really cruddy pics of him in a weird suit..he looks better in his volunteer/street geer..and work boots, i'll tell you that.

he hates photos and i only saw him in like 2 photos online, for some kind of event i think related to the pantry. other than that, nothing. he's not on fb, obviously, since he hates photos.

Jacky82020 on 12/18/2020:
Not a fan of photos myself, of me that is Love cute animals and political editorials cartoons

Donkey on 12/19/2020:
You may look back at this time and realize that you were given a unique gift in this time, to step back and re-evaluate. You've done so much in this time, and I think you've learned a lot about yourself and your place in the universe. If nothing else, think of all the new people you've met and lives you touched through your volunteering! You may not have had this opportunity, if things had just moved forward with the usual ho-hum.

I remain hopeful and positive for your job situation - whatever may come, whatever may be, I'm sending positive vibes your way.

PS Also, perhaps, look into LGBQ legal clinics for pro-bono types of volunteering. I came across that in looking for low-income clinics.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/19/2020:
good way to think about it...the volunteering ;)

also, i WILL look into what you are advising - LGBQ...i'll see what i can find...in the next week or so i think i'm going to try to see what kind of contacts i can make online for volunteering for future.

grannyannie on 12/17/2020:
Very satisfying work!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/17/2020:
Thank you...tomorrow i'm only going because i already signed up...and it's only two hours, so i can practice commuting by bus / train and not have to work very long hours after a snowstorm :)

bearcountrygg on 12/17/2020:
Snow days are a great time for hot cereal.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/17/2020:
I agree!

Donkey on 12/18/2020:
A salty cake usually indicates too much baking powder. I can't say that would stop me from eating it. Maybe pair it with a sweet buttercream frosting so that the sweet plays off the salty? Or just check the batch in the bin.

Hope you are able to volunteer today!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/18/2020:
it was a premade mix...i'll check the percentage of salt on the nutrition facts...i might have just been thirsty last night bc i wasn't drink much water before the cake either...i guess it needed something sweet on it, yes. it was a rather boring, just the cake part, of a cake. ha.

i think you meant, CHUCK the batch in the bin? i'll try to eat it as breakfasts when i'm home...it's good for now, when i'm not working.
