afternoon edit: I'm back from my walk. I was starting to think I would NOT have bad allergies this year, but in fact I have been proven wrong! Boy do my eyes itch! The walk was still worth it though.

so yesterday i accomplished some, but not enough.

this morning i'm off on a "hike." Perhaps I can just call it a long walk, along the Cross Island Parkway in NY state. It's in Queens and is well known for its beautiful 6 route which can be anywhere up to 6 miles depending on where you start. You can see the Throgs Neck Bridge and the water is right next to you. Sometimes its a bit cold since the current and breeze off the water brings the temperature down at least 10 degrees so you always have to dress warmer.

Have a good day :)

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 20 lbs to go!

Your walk sounds great, enjoy it!

you know whats funny? i have been avopiding the scale. i know its bad, but i think you have motivated me to get back on on monday! im sure i am about the same, and actually my clothes are really the indicator that things are more than fine. thanks for reminding me! hope all is well xoxo

maria777 on 04/24/2008:
Wow...that sounds like a real interesting walk! Could you take some photos and share with us???

thinnsidenotout on 04/24/2008:
Glad that you were able to get in those 6 miles.... It sounds like a lot and is, but once you adapt it isn't hard to add another 1-2 miles...Gets easier as you go and can pick up momentum closer to home....I try to take different paths, but when 'Mickey" goes, I am hampered some, as her hubby won't let her go certain places I do (too far from home)...I'm not a frady kat! When she goes, we just walk the same path 3 times in a circle....

I won't attempt 10 miles for a while though... : o )~

Good Evening!

crategrl on 04/24/2008:
Welcome back and where are you vacationing.

Horn_of_plenty - Wednesday Apr 23, 2008

Weight: 135.0

This year has been very challenging for me dietwise and fitnesswise. I am currently on vacation. I was going to start yoga again but don't feel very comfortable right now in those tight clothes or being in a 100 degree room. So, I'm sticking to outdoors activities and the elliptical for the remainder of my week off and the weekend.

I didn't eat that well yesterday but today is a new day and I can make all the difference in my life that I want to. What happened, I think, is that I become overly anxious about this class I'm taking. Unfortunately, I do have to do work during this break and I was eating as a way to procrastinate.

Today's a really nice day and I will definitely spend some time outside.

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 20 lbs to go!

abdab74 on 04/23/2008:
I hear you about the procrastination by eating thing...I am known for it, especially when it comes to school assignments...enjoy your time outside today!

hollybelle on 04/23/2008:
I eat to procrastinate or delay starting a job I really don't want to do all the time! So I understand what you said! It's still there to do, though - I'll catch on to that fact someday.

Beth201P on 04/23/2008:
Good luck with your class. Have a good rest of the week.

thinnsidenotout on 04/23/2008:
Enjoy that nice weather...Our forcast for today is rain and/or snow, along with wind...HOw fun is that?.... ICKY!

Hope your day is wonderful!

shadetree on 04/23/2008:
So glad to see you back HoP! You sound like you're in a little better frame of mind after your break. I see you've put on a couple pounds!:)

It's such a good time of year to get motivated to get moving! Enjoy your break (even if you have to do classwork!)

Weight: 135.0

Hi Fellow DDers! I just wanted to see if putting in such a high weight could work on here! haha.

It's been awhile and I want to thank all of your for your support although I haven't written in awhile. Whether you left a comment while I was gone or just read my entries, thank you. :) Thank you to everyone for leaving me such kind words it felt really good to read them.

Onwards...I have not lost any weight. I gained some more actually. Some things I know and realize: life always have its challenges and diet/fitness should be something as routine as brushing one's teeth (although I must admit I do forget every once in awhile!!!).

I am working on making exercise a priority. I have been working as a teaching assistant this year for reading, but I have also been applying to programs to go back to school. The applications involved entrance exams and interviews and essays. Also, I've been putting in a couple hours each week volunteering at a local hospital. Lastly, I'm just finishing up taking Anatomy and Physiology I. I sound busy but it's actually not that bad at all. My schedule still leaves me some time, but I was using most of it to sulk around and eat and be unhappy. Now that my class in winding down, I am excited to have the time back that I would have spent studying! I have no excuses and I'm glad! I enjoy exercising but it is just so difficult when I think about studying...it's like a mental drain.

I have two weeks left of class and about 2 1/2 months left of work. I am motivated to feel my best.

Thanks again for all of your support and now I will be checking up on you on my break from work this week! I will probably have more sporatic entries, not daily...we shall see!

Have a great day!

and good news, i think my ipod may have fixed itself. It has been broken for months and it randomly started working again!

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 20 lbs to go!

mmuraro on 04/21/2008:
Hey girl, good to see you back. I was thinking of you. I agree with you, life is always full of changes and challenges and you just have to diet through it and besides just getting use to diet through all of them, also be ready to change plans and try new things when you need to adapt. Good to hear about your news, work and all, seems like you're busy. Talk more soon. xo

thinnsidenotout on 04/21/2008:
Your too funny!.....That weight is ridiculous!...But we do feel that at times don't we?....Especially when we can't seem to get control of our eating...

Glad to see you back....Check in on ya next time!

legcramps on 04/21/2008:
HEY!!! Good to see you back here! Check in as much as you can, I miss hearing from you!

so good to see you back! i am planning to not eat any hametz (leavened foods) but i am not the biggest fan of matzoh. i did eat some last night at the seder and some matzoh bark...couldnt resist chocolate last night for some reason...but back on track today! hope you are well and talk soon. xo

Beth201P on 04/21/2008:
Glad you are back. I must of came back onto DD when you where gone. I look forward to getting to know you better. Have a wonderful week. Good job on getting that exercise in.

hollybelle on 04/22/2008:
HOP! Hello! It hasn't been the same without you!! I tried to find your "last" entry to ask where you'd been, make a comment, etc., but actually couldn't find it. WorkingIt2 (who is taking a bit of a break herself) told me you were taking a break for awhile so......welcome back. I liked what you said about making food/exercise "routine" like brushing teeth. I SO know what you mean and SO agree. It's easy for some of us to become SO focused on these things as the end all and be all of our existence (I guess I might be exaggerating here a little, but maybe not much) and that's just not a good thing. I am doing "OK" keeping things in perspective for the most part - still struggling with about 7 lbs. but at least hopeful that it will eventually come off if I keep food/exercise in proper perspective! So good to hear from you. Keep in touch.

mcwoo40 on 04/22/2008:

Weight: 124.0

I'm taking a break from DD until I loose at least 10 lbs.

yesterday: 3400

Today: 3050

total ex: 22hrs...yeah, not so hot in February. Worst month since I started counting hours around springtime last year!!!

what have i learned this year?...this is what i need to think about!

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 4 lbs to go!

mmuraro on 02/27/2008:
I dont think 22hrs is all that bad. it's only the 27th, so that means you worked out an hour a day, besides 5 days... I think you do need to control your binging. I believe its not DD that is making you binge. So you shouldn't take the break... What you should do is maybe talk to someone to help you control your binging. Maybe a nutritionist or a therapist, ever though about that?

leeumom on 02/27/2008:
The binging can be a problem. We do that at night when we get home from work. Usually around 9:30 to 10:00p.m. That is the worst time. We find now that if we have low calorie items around the calories don't mount up so bad. Your eating enough calories that you should be gaining a pound a day. Are you working out to not gain? Don't be down on yourself. Think about or look for all the good things you've accomplished. You can do it.

starlight on 02/28/2008:
Can I ask why you want to take a break from DD? We are all in the same boat so in no way judgemental about the binging. We're here for support girlie!!!

borntocry on 02/28/2008:
Hmm. Well, not that I want you to leave or anything, but I lost 4 lb over my little break from DD last year. The diaries may not be making you binge but they're not helping to stop you, either. Everyone gets used to your bad habits and soon no-one is shocked any more by what you do. And you know it, too, so you feel no shame. At least that was what happened to me last year. I realised I had to be accountable to myself. And that's when I achieved the most success. (Also I must admit the thought of coming back here and wow-ing everyone with my spectacular weight loss was a big motivating factor too.)

shadetree on 03/01/2008:
Okay, HoP, I know that sometimes we all need to take a break. I will not deny that. I think you need to listen to what a number of us have said to you over the months - you need to get to the bottom of WHY you are binging. You haven't figured it out on your own yet (or if you have you haven't shared)....You need to find a therapist that will help you work through this! I have been very concerned about you from my first day here, but I am not one that likes to continually lecture, so I said my thoughts once and let it go...You are doing a lot of harm to yourself, and you need to get to the bottom of WHY you continue in these patterns. check with school - if they don't have someone on staff to help you, they can probably refer you to someone. Please get some help.

yaz on 03/04/2008:
Binging is the enemy. Try snacking good snacks that are low in calories... that helped me from stopping the binge! Also try to get mini treats like I went out and bought hershey nuggets and allow myself to eat one a day. I did it for like 4 days straight and now I don't even think about it. But when the chocolate urge strikes back i know I can have one. Try that! Hopefully you come back soon to DD!!

greengirl on 03/15/2008:
Hope you are doing OK HoP.

Horn_of_plenty - Monday Feb 25, 2008

Weight: 124.0

2260 cal. not a "banner day." It was binging for breakfast and after work that did it. I'm ok though...and I am practically excited to study - that's the rest of my night...and i'll add in a 1/2 hour treadmill walk, too.

I cannot wait to know what i'm doing in September. Thing is, I will NOT know for probably 2 more months! Therefore, I should just lay off wanting to know and worry about the present rather than the future!

Present goals: loose a little each week, stop backsliding. Plan: simple! plan my meals and stick to them...more importantly, stick to my after school schedule and don't come home to binge! :)

i'm doing good...

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 4 lbs to go!

starlight on 02/25/2008:
This sounds exactly like me. I have no clue what fall will bring. I just want to be enrolled in a program already! I really want to do phlebotomy this summer so that I can work as a phlebotomist while I go through nursing school, BUT I don't have a car right now and they don't offer it at my community college. I'm going to really try to work something out to take the class at a different college. Anyway... as far binging, I'm right with you. Every day I tell myself I'm not going to do it, but every day until recently I pig out on candy bars. Ughhhh I wish my boyfriends mom didnt keep a stash in the house at all times. Maybe when we feel the compulsion to binge we can come on this site BEFORE hand and ask people for some support. I have a friend on this website, feeleebubs, I text messaged her earlier and said "tell me I'm NOT going to eat Heath candy bars today" lol. Well good luck. It sure is hard but I lost 70 pounds before, and I can do it again. (and not gain it back even if I do have a major life change again : )

thinnsidenotout on 02/25/2008:
Re: fruit salad sounding good....That is the fruits I took for church "fellowship time" when everybody else was eating cupcakes, etc.... I have found if I plan (whick you mention you need to do), I tend to stay on track, cause I don't feel left out and isolated ..... Planning is your best weapon in this battle and I sure would advise you to do it, cause I am sure it will help you so much and you would be amazed at how easy it comes to you to eat what you have set forth to only have....

HAVE A GREAT EVENING!.....you are doing good!

workingit2 on 02/25/2008:
I am right with you on the not eating everything in sight..it is difficult but we both know it is DOEABLE becasue we've both done it LOL. Have a great evening!

Donkey on 02/25/2008:
I am telling this to you because I like you. You are misspelling "lose". You type "loose" which means "not tight". "Lose" with one "o" means "opposite of gain".

Secondly, I encourage you to stop anticipating about September and focus on the here and now. Use this time before September to focus on yourself. :-) I would do the same thing, try to make plans about the future and want to know NOW what I would be doing. I finally realized that this is my attempt to be in control and sometimes that feeling of no control can lead to bingeing. That is why I mention this to you.

Sometimes you have to just sit back and let Life take its course. This has been my biggest lesson these past few months. So keep in mind that perhaps my perspective is bias, because this is what I am dealing with. It may not be what you are dealing with (or need to deal with). I just don't want to see you binge as a result of feeling frustrated with the unknown. Good luck to you always!

mmuraro on 02/25/2008:
You know what, i could never have a 'normal' day and go to Bikram. I have to prepare for it all day. Drink almost a gallon of water or I get headaches from dehydration. But most people can do with less. And also, I have to be fasten for 4 hours before class, or i feel heavy when laying on my stomach. So the days I go to Bikram my eating is perfect. I just didn't lose a lot of weight while doing it, because i would eat a lot the days I didn't go to class. I lost some still... Hope you do go tomorrow. I need to go soon. Today I went to regular yoga. It was great though. Hugs.

Weight: 124.0

after a bunch of snacks and dinner, my calories are 3000...not in the mood to stick to the 1500s tonight. I guess I think my weight isn't going up be eating like this...lol...it will...

exercise: 30min so far...

sunday afternoon edit:

Turns out the tests were VERY hard and NOBODY did that well, especially on the multiple choice section. So, all my staying home this past week to study did not help me and since we are allowed one test to drop, I hope this will be the worst I do so that the rest of my grades are better! We have plenty more tests.

My grades before today's exams are a 96 and an 89. The 96 was the top grade and the 89 was second highest. Obviously, it's a hard course despite the fact that it is being given at a community college! My grades today will not be near as high. I know for a fact that nobody will probably get an A on both of today's tests.

I could have rushed to yoga after class but I came home and had some food. That's ok since I really hadn't planned on heading to yoga. I will take a walk, although its freezing, outside at the park later.

hi there. it's 5:34am on Sunday and I've been awake since...probably 4am. Yeah, I can't sleep! I have TWO tests today and its so much information and I know that I can DEFINITELY do more studying and still probably forget a few things on these tests. The information is a lot, there's a test each week. I'm happy I'm taking the class, but its just a lot of info to process for each exam. so, i'm stressed, can't sleep, can't relax, wanna eat.

I haven't done yoga since Wednesday...I think I only went TWO days this whole break because of being sick and also just not being able to schedule it in. stinky. I can't believe I go back to work tomorrow!

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 4 lbs to go!

shadetree on 02/24/2008:
You said yesterday you were going to sleep for 9 hours...you jinxed yourself! Get some studying in before your tests today - or maybe go for walk to get the blood flowing THEN study! You'll do fine!

mmuraro on 02/24/2008:
two days of hot yoga is 3 hours and 700-1200 calories. that's not so bad. Good luck on your studies. Btw, i had a light beer when i was out last night so I did reach my 1200 calories goal. :)

jon'smom on 02/24/2008:

Guess no curve? People used to hate me when tests were graded on a curve, 'cause I usually ended up killing it! You get to drop one, so hopefully the rest won't be quite this bad. Get out and take that walk and things will look better. Have a good day tomorrow!

Maybe they will grade on the curve. The others are right, at least they are done and over with. You are taking some tough courses so I am very impressed!

starlight on 02/24/2008:
It's sounds like you're doing well in your A & P class. Classes at community colleges are just as difficult as classes at a 4 year university. Community college courses are not "dummed down" versions of the same courses at universities. Sorry for being slightly defensive, I'm not trying to sound bitchy. lol I am taking A & P as well this semester (nursing prereq) I read your entries when you were looking into nursing. Are you still wanting to do radiography or radiation therapy. I think that's awesome. As you know it's a difficult program to get into and you have a great advantage already having/soon to have your master's degree. It shows you are hard working. I am loving the class. I eventually want to be a nurse anesthetist. Awesome money, awesome job. But VERY difficult to get into, like med school. What book is your class using? We are using Marieb's A & P 7th edition. I personally think the material could be explained a little better. I have an awesome teacher though. Do you have any recommendations for supplement material? Sorry for the long post, its just nice to see someone in the same class as me possibly going into the health field : )

How many calories are in one pound? You can do it. Do something around the house that will be a sense of accomplishment. Then you will feel good and perhaps be good to yourself and body. Remember the goal.

...i had a binge just now. 2520 calories so far, 11am. I had cookies, cinnamon bread, chocolates. my goal for the day is 3000 or so cal.!!!

**Important Yogurt Discovery...**

***I have been eating plain non-fat yogurt often, like 2-3 times a day, recently and have discovered it really helps digestion/elimination. Anyone that has ever been constipated (sorry for being so explicit) will benefit COMPLETELY from this. I usually do not have that problem but I find the power of yogurt amazing. I didn't buy any special brand, just a nonfat or lowfat PLAIN yogurt. I eat it on/with everything! It's a good spread/dip/sauce. You should definitely try it...after a day or two, you'll be amazed!***

So, everything that yogurt claims it can do is totally true! :)

Friday AM entry: I woke up this morning to beautiful snow covering everything which is still falling. I actually don't like snow, but I also couldn't believe it really hadn't snowed all year yet. I figure it's good for the environment!

I woke up hungry and had one of those new lean cuisine flatbread pizzas with a half cup of yogurt on top...and some tea. Overall, 420 calories. I just have to keep an eye on my eating throughout the morning. I would have went to volunteer, but the streets aren't even plowed. I think I will walk on the treadmill and head to the library later. When the roads are better, I plan to do a few returns to the stores.

Thursday evening entry:

I wrote a HUGE entry, then it was deleted! yuck! No way am i typing again!

anyways, the interview went well. I did many errands and studied. I don't want to go to yoga...i have a hunger feeling in me today and i'm tired. Perhaps i'll nap. Usually i don't, but it's worth a shot.

I'm so happy about my weight and the fact that it is steadily decreasing. When it was at 130 there was also some major bloat in effect too from all the bulky food. I cannot wait to be out of the 120s!!! :)

1550 cal, no exercise.

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 4 lbs to go!

thought you might like this joke I found

When Mozart passed away, he was buried in a churchyard. A couple days later, the town drunk was walking through the cemetery and heard some strange noises coming from the area where Mozart was buried. Terrified, the drunk ran and got the priest to come and listen to it. The priest bent close to the grave and heard some faint, unrecognizable music coming from the grave. Frightened, the priest ran and got the town magistrate. When the magistrate arrived, he bent his ear to the grave, listened for a moment, and said, "Ah, yes, that's Mozart's Ninth Symphony, being played backwards."

He listened a while longer, and said, "There's the Eighth Symphony, And it's backwards, too. Most puzzling." So the magistrate kept listening; "There's the Seventh... the Sixth...the Fifth..." Suddenly the realization of what was happening dawned on the magistrate; he stood up and announced to the crowd that had gathered in the cemetery. "My fellow citizens, there's nothing to worry about. It's just Mozart decomposing."

Thanks for the reminder. Kopsman has eaten yogurt for years. Usually he will pack one with my lunch. We get the yoplat (sw) with white chocolate. It is maybe 90 calories and soo--------- good. I agree! Have been sick for a week with this darn cold and have not had any. Know what I'm having. Truely, it did help with my weight loss.

mmuraro on 02/22/2008:
Well, you already did it and it's over now. Don't try to fast for the rest of the day to compensate, just try to be mindful of what you eat, have healthy foods, but don't let yourself be hungry. doesn't matter if the calories overall will be too high. Just eat well and maybr go to Bikram yoga tonight? :)

I was taking Fiber Tablets to help me with "back-up" and found it worked the opposite on me.Since I have started eating yogurt/healthier foods and stopped taking the pills..MUCH BETTER!!!!!!

Go on about your day and be cautious of temptations..RESISTING!!!!!!

Hey Thanks for your comment. I completely understand about the job shifting causing difficulties in maintaining weight loss. I've struggled with it for years and given a lot of thought to what I can do to avoid that, because well things change all the time and I don't want to be constantly falling of the wagon. I think planning ahead of a change and being aware of the fact that sometimes your routine is going to have to be modified might be helpful. Like the stress and possibly different hours that come with a new job. You could give yourself a couple of weeks to adjust and then get back to your routine, maybe modified to accommodate the new schedule. Hope that helps!

I'll have to try the yogurt thing.
