1950...

whole day is with parents and i don't plan on being so productive when i'm home later this evening, maybe just do some reading and go to bed.

Did almost my whole workout before heading out to parents - will finish tonight

______________________________________________________________________

Beach wiith family is cancelled which i'm glad about. there's a decent chance of storms and it's overcast today. I'm going to get in an upper body session for weights this AM now since i don't have to rush to beach.  I will still visit parents and join them for lunch later today as well as dinner at their home tonight instead of going out to beach for the day with them. sounds good.

I'm still a little beat and don't want to exercise, but, i guess i need to get over it and move :) I feel lazy / tired but I will feel better after this workout. The good thing is she called to cancel beach after i already had breakfast...so i just need to do my workout, shower, and head to my folks' house...

Progress as of today: -5 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

Donkey on 08/12/2020:
I'm sorry the beach didn't work out. We had really bad storms here on Monday apparently. My daughter's co-workers were posting videos on Instagram about the storms and the clouds and wind...

This would explain why I spent this afternoon picking up fallen branches in the backyard.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/13/2020:
i was sorta glad not to go to beach - i relaxed / did a weights workout in morning ;)

Re: balcony... What about a cheap greenhouse? you can leave the door open for air or leave the back open and rolled up. https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/3.3-x-6.6-x-7.0-Portable-Walk-in-Greenhouse-with-PE-Cover/28882355/product.html?option=51068651

Horn_of_plenty on 08/13/2020:
thank you for this advice especially for growing plants on balcony......

i know you didn't mean it for growing plants, but, i'm thinking to do it next spring - just a few.

happy-1 on 08/13/2020:
You won't be able to stake it down. but you can weight it by filling milk jugs with water and tying it to their handles. Just add jugs till it is stable.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/13/2020:
i will look into it, give you my feedback, THANK you!

happy-1 on 08/13/2020:
Or this one... 2 entrances and exits so you can close the side the wind is coming from.

Weight: 115.0

8:30am Breakfast: cereal 220, strawberries 50, almond milk 30, kombucha both in AM and later in day 150: 500

Noon snack after volunteering at the local farm (yes, a local farm in the middle of the "city") 2 light granola bars 200 (on purpose, needed the sugar, did the trick! on the ride home!)

lunch: waiting on it, snacking on kombucha, already included above...while back at home and relaxing, going to write up a blog on my lovely morning.

lunch 3pm-4pm 2 small flatbreads 200, karella in oil 50?, sauteed pumpkin 150?, pita chips rest of the bag 100, sweet potato chips rest of the bag 150. total here: 650, followed by a sparkling beverage 100. 750 total.

1450...

9pm snacking 400 in junk food :)

1850 cals and no exercise besides two hours spent drenched in sweat at the farm and that was enough :) need to learn to do less when I get into these types of activities - I am an overdoer at heart and this is not the time to overdo :)

supposed to do weights tonight, might do them after my class ends, 8pm, a fast session, we'll see how i feel...

i've decided to skip weights today bc i need to have energy tomorrow for the beach / driving to my parents in the morning. i'm going to relax and skip a workout this week in terms of upper body weights as i do not want to stress myself right now. it was a big step to garden today at the farm and i'd rather relax tonight and go to bed early :)

__________________________________________________________________________

did something very special today, went on my own to volunteer and pick onions at my local farm! it was amazing and i have signed up again to volunteer on Sunday and Tuesday. Those are the volunteer days and the exercise and feeling good about my ability to do the work for a couple hours makes me very happy to do this. I'm so glad I have the opportunity.

If i were working, I would prob NOT want to volunteer so often or on the weekend even as much as I will do these couple weeks. It's just awesome to be in the sun with other Queens people and be out with nature, picking veggies and fruit from the ground. You can't get much better than this!

It's def hard work and tiring, so if i were working, I wouldn't be doing it this often (also my schedule wouldn't let me do it if i were working), so i'm taking this lovely opportunity and am going to volunteer often for two weeks there, 2x per week for a couple hours in the morning. I'm glad i can stay home the rest of today and relax...supposed to lift weights - we'll see.

I have the class online tonight 5-8pm...

it's a great week over here.

Thank you to the many of you who stopped by my site that i'm doing for my project management class. About 4 of you came by and 3 of you left feedback! I hope that possibly one more of the DDers will visit.  I've been able to boast how i have already had international action on the site as well as many US states are represented...in particular because of DD members stopping by.

I commented on some of the posts - does that count as "feedback"? If I can say a couple of things here about your site: (1) beautiful background picture! And it's of the produce shelves at the store - brilliant!!!! and (2) I myself prefer to be on your site on my laptop versus my phone.

HOWEVER, now that I am back from my trip, I am thinking that my comment might be more about my (dumbbutt) phone and not your website.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/12/2020:
yeah J!!!! THANK YOU. i was hoping you'd come back and comment :)

sometimes there is an issue on the phone where it doesn't work as fast as it should or the site freezes. i noticed even on my own phone / friends' phone.

Donkey on 08/11/2020:
Have fun at the beach tomorrow!

Volunteering at the farm is such a good idea! I completely understand what you mean about not doing anything like this if you were working, but since your not yet, go for it!

Horn_of_plenty on 08/12/2020:
the volunteering for me personally is good, hard work. it reminds me of a time i took bootcamp classes which left me really, really exhausted - and caused a decent amount of weightloss because of all the agility exercises and sweating. i'm glad to push this volunteering into high gear now. it's perfect when a person doesn't have a lot of life stress to fit in volunteering especially when i can come home and relax after it.

the beach is cancelled due to not optimal weather conditions.

Tomorrow is SUPER exciting. In the morning, I have volunteered to work from 10am-12pm at the Queens Farm! It's around 20 minutes away.  There are animals, but volunteers will not be with them, i will prob be picking veggies or weeds LOL. i am excited to volunteer! what is better than to get off my but*, and help out the nearby farm (it's small but it really exists, in the heart of Queens!)

also, I have only two more weeks of the project management class (this week and next!) super excited to be DONE with that course.

Will begin studying my project management notes. Will also be studying paralegal again.

I will begin actively looking for work around September.

I may volunteer at the farm again, if my time there on Tuesday goes well. Volunteering is only Tuesdays and Sundays. It's nice to do something nice, if my work can help others!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had another rough evening with R last night. he was argumentative (maybe bc it was friday and he'd spent his day hard at work in his apt which can be stressful).  as we walked around a special neighborhood i wanted to visit, he told me once to "shut up."  usually he doesn't say it so blatantly, but he doesn't like when i comment on all the homes (i do comment a LOT during the walks) and neighborhood. I like to talk on the walks, he wants me to be basically silent so he can have his own thoughts on the walk, which remains sorta difficult for me.

It started to drizzle when our walk ended and I drove us back in the rain. He wanted me to specifically drop him off at a certain exact place and i didn't have that specific corner in mind. He started to yell and say i never know where i'm going, bad driver, etc. He yellled for me to stop the car and was especially distracting.  It upset me and when he got out, he just walked away. I started to scream when i was alone in my car. He acted, in my opinion, like a complete A**HOLE! he was very, very rude. and no, i do not think i warranted or deserved his behavior.

So last night, i cursed hiim back in a text and I decided to tell him that I will NOT hang out with him today.  I will not submit myself to his behavior. Of course, he ignored my texts.  I have no need to apoligize to him.  He was super dramatic and absolutely wrong. He knows how i feel about him getting super aggressive and that i do not appreiate it. so, i will not hang with him until he absolutely apologizes.  the last fight, i actually apologized to him, this time, there's NO WAY i will. he is so, so, so in the wrong.

Progress as of today: -5 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

happy-1 on 08/08/2020:
Ooooooooh honey, I wish I could give you a hug. That is way over the line... If he acts like that...

What's the appeal that keeps you coming back and the apologies make it OK?

Horn_of_plenty on 08/08/2020:
it certainly makes his appeal lower and lower. i like the activities we do together and he and i are so close that i have drifted much farther from my other friends. i see him almost every week...he usually doesn't behave as bad as he did yesterday.

you are right, i agree 100%. i would love to develop a new relationship with someone else, maybe some day in the future. :)

happy-1 on 08/08/2020:
Something like that would be hard to shake off and make space for someone new. I'd probably have to change cities.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/09/2020:
exactly. so i leave it alone for now. but this weekend, i'm not hanging out with him.

happy-1 on 08/08/2020:
Plus if it's not broke, don't fix it.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/09/2020:
def not fixing...

woke up at 8am with alarm but was sorta BAD and slept in until amost 10am! seriously about 12hours of sleep. I KNOW i must work on this in the coming weeks because this will be a really, really hard habit to get away from once i go back to work (unplanned date as of yet).

The morning went by very fast...

I'm reviewing the total rest of the WESTLAW introduction as the instructors from my paralegal class have told us to do before the second half of the class resumes.  They are still finishing the grading. I have done decently, I will prob get a grade of 80-85 overall in the paralegal first half.

_________________________________________

Goals:

1. Finish all westlaw tutorials online, save the certificate in my paralegal files. not hard, just needed to get through it without constantly interrupting myself! DONE!

2. skip upper body weights today in favor of driving somewhere, by myself, before meeting up with Ricky later on today. - possibly do LEG exercises also at home while watching TV. DONE!

3. Around 5pm - possibly earlier - I asked R if we could go for a walk in a relatively close African American housing historic district built around 100 years ago. should be really, really nice walk.  We'll drive there, several towns over, then walk.  45 min walk.

Progress as of today: -5 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

happy-1 on 08/07/2020:
Hugs. You are knocking the healthy eating thing out of the park.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/07/2020:
thanks, i have made it easier by not buying too many things. i've been buying much less dairy like yogurts and when i do buy them, i'm buying them more as snacks / desserts (less healthy varieties when i buy them) as a nice change of pace. :)

Horn_of_plenty on 08/07/2020:
also getting so much extra sleep has made me able to work my appetite better...and not cause major indulgences past the healthy point..

- had phone convo with french friend from 9-11am today, was nice.DONE!

 - Learning the Westlaw online website now, this afternoon, to prepare for the second half of the Paralegal course which will start in a couple weeks or so.  They HIGHLY suggest we learn the site before the second half the course begins, so that is where I am at !!! (halfway done, maybe do more after my class tonight!)

- Will go outside for a walk before my 5pm class starts.  I think it's safer to walk than bike since lots of tree branches are down and i don't want a flat tire. DONE!

- no work right now as homework for the proj management class except to attend the class from 5-8pm today. going well...DONE!

- I started an excel sheet that will include job interviews i have and will go on for 2020 since pandemic started...(went on 2...also had a couple phone conversations/interviews that i need to keep track of..) - to finish tonight or tomorrow (friday)...   DONE for now!

It's always sad when you use the last of the honey isn't it.......

Horn_of_plenty on 08/06/2020:
YES! mine was very high quality and it was specifically only for eating (i have used other cheaper honey on my face in the past as it can help with antibacterial properties)...i want to get the same kind of honey again so I will not regret having it...i will look up the name of it later.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/06/2020:
oh, it was Manuka honey and a very high degree of health percentage of Manuka. it had lasted me YEARS.

bearcountrygg on 08/06/2020:
I keep manuka honey for antibacterial reasons too...but I'm not fond of the flavor.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/06/2020:
i love it (since i don't eat much honey i have nothing to compare it to) and think it's sweet. i do want to buy a little more, though maybe it's best i buy a cheaper honey right now?

bearcountrygg on 08/06/2020:
The manuka honey has a medicinal taste to me that I don't care for.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/07/2020:
ohhh! gotcha! my friend Ricky doesn't like my manuka honey either :(

Lots of trees / branches down from storm Isaias. Luckily, i am totally ok as is all the apartments in my complex. Nobody lost power here bc our lines are underground.  :)  Others in nearby areas were not as lucky. But no flooding, just high winds with this storm in my area.

Progress as of today: -5 lbs lost so far, only 3 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 08/05/2020:
If you have leftovers of the apple cabbage dish you could still add some raisins......just soak some in hot water and when they are plump add them to the apple cabbage dish. Good idea getting in the exercise early....then you don't have to think about it all day.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/05/2020:
gosh darn it...i may have to go back to the supermarket before i finish this cabbage apple dish! what a good idea to STILL ADD the yellow raisins...you are soooo right!

yeah, i am becoming TOO lazy and will be making sure to go out early to get some cardio in early these couple weeks right now.

We've got the storm here today: Isaias.  It's really not the hard to say if you break the syllables up: IS-A-I-AS.   I hope Maria is ok, i heard it was in the Carolinas last night.

I'm home most of today, going to step on the Stepper and then head onto my site (please viist!!!) foodfriends.shop and leave me a comment or two!  it's all free, just a blog online for my project management class :)

i will be replying TODAY! last night i ended up doing work and didn't get to go on my site after doing some more extra credit hw for my paralegal class. the project management class has been far easier, actually, than the paralegal course. I may study to take the project managment national exam - it is very hard and costs around $500!

Planning to cook, using slow cooker!, a really nice apple red cabbage german recipe!

also will cook my cauli rice, i think!

a nice day at home, doing domestic things! LOVING IT.

my therapist left the practice so no therapy until i get a new one (GLAD I DON't have therapy today!)

class tonight for project managment from 5-8pm.

a nice day home!

edit: crazy storm knocked down trees and branches. i hope you all are OK! nothing major but lots of trees and branches are done. the buildings and homes seem ok by me.

9:30am breakfast: cereal honeycomb 160, almond milk 40, small ripe banana 120, coffee 50, kombucha 50. 420-450.

snack: just kombucha bc it was a late breakfast..

12:30 lunch: leftover really tasty chicken and rice soup with cilantro. so good. large amount with the rice. 400? then a small drink 100.

2pm snack sun chips 200

4pm larger snack: chips, peach, gummies 300

9pm dinner: i made the sweet and sour German cabbage and apple recipe. very nice. had a good bowl of it for dinner 200 and many pita chips 300.

what i love most is NOT getting up at the crack of dawn! ha!....but there will be a day that this will end for me :) it's been really, really nice being home overall!

Thank you for thinking of us concerning the storm Isaias, HOP. We are okay, thank the Lord, and hoping you and your loved ones are, too.

Horn_of_plenty on 08/05/2020:
yes, we are all safe although my parents have lost power still...they were able to borrow a generator! :)

bearcountrygg on 08/05/2020:
I saw the pics of FB of your areas damage...scary!!!

Horn_of_plenty on 08/05/2020:
yes, that's how ALL of queens and Long island and a lot of the areas like brooklyn, bronx, staten island look! manhattan did better since they have power lines underground so they didn't lose power like these other areas!

luckily my area is doing a bit better than the others, i think.

I need to make a plan for today:

1- weights in morning, afternoon,  after some relaxing. i got up very late again, almost 12 hours of    sleep. It is OK. I was very active Saturday and my body took a beating. So, i am thankful to be able to sleep so much right now before i am back working...

2- I will also go for a bike ride sometime today...bike ride was light and indoors while on the phone

3- I may drive to a supermarket just for some seltzers and a little more bread / rolls /      wraps...may pick up a few bottles of seltzer when i take a walk tonight with Ricky and stop by the supermarket, possibly.

4- Now that i have finished (basically) the website and realize the class is not as              stressful as i thought, i will be delving back into the WESTLAW practice i am                  supposed to do for the paralegal course, before the second half begins - which is            coming soon in the middle of August!! :) woohoo!  I will start with the Westlaw soon,        possibly today...for the class i'm taking, there's an extra credit we can do.  i did fine on the memo, got an 80, but will just do the extra credit instead of skipping it...planning to do it, TONIGHT :)  we received it today in an email.

5- Also, I have yet to make another cauliflower fried rice...forgot about this! iit would be tasty to make this already, LOL...

6- at the farmstand, bought a red cabbage so i can make my own baked red cabbage - should look up a nice recipe!

you can write about whatever you want, especially in the chat...for instance, you can write about Noom or whatever else your heart desires. not a long post. just a few sentences is fine :) or just comment on what someone else wrote - you always write creative comments here on DD!
