today was a little odd. I had a powerpoint meeting after work which was helpful. I also went to exercise, only to find out there was also some marching band festival going on. i stopped by to watch a little bit after exercising. then, i accidentally walked the wrong way back only to see the gate locked. i had to walk 10 minutes back the other way. There was nobody around and it was definitely a little scary, to say the least.

calories were good, because i was busy and because i made good choices. same with exercise.

calories: about 1330

exercise: 1 hr, 20 min :)

Hey, great work with the exercise! I am embarrased to tally my own for the month so far - and I can't see it getting much better before the month is up. Oh well, you're an awesome example of how to get that exercise in, and total inspiration! Keep it up and you'll motivate me to meet my own exercise goals!

YAY!!!!! Great day - even with taking the wrong way. I did that on my bike last night - I rode to a new neighborhood and it looked liek one way was the way out (I didn't pay attention to the street signs, of course) and I rode about 15 minutes longer than I intended to! That's one way to get a better workout, I guess!

I'm a bit tired...so, i'm just going to bed early, 30 min walking.

total 19 hrs, 55 min.

I actually did have a pretty busy day. first time in awhile and tomorrow will be similiar to today! :) Life needs activity sometimes.

calories could have been LOWER, but i shouldn't even worry about that because my body needs to adjust SLOWLY, as workingit would agree with, to this lower calorie diet. today is 1600. I had some extra veggie sausage and bread at dinner.

i had my first fall apple today. i hadn't been eating much fruit, or practically any fruit, for about one month. It tasted really good. I'll be definitely having one a day. I intend to begin the day with an apple before what i hope to be my usual 20 minute early morning walks. I will build up minutes from 20. For the rest of the month, my goal is 20 minutes every morning.

I would love if then November would be 25 min in the morning, December 30 min, January 35, February 40, March 45, April 50, May 55 minutes. After reaching 55 minutes, I'd stick to that as my early morning exercise.

nothing else new. Just a few teaching courses through the district! :)

I'm pretty tired.

Fall apples are so good! You might want to add a little protien with it. I am learning that we should have protien with every meal.. Before we exercise, if we eat, it should be some protien - something about if you eat carbs - your body burns the carbs you just ate instead of burning fat.

what a great walking plan! sounds good!! i'm sad that i'm missing the fall colors and festivities of the states. we receive fall apples here, but they just don't seem as festive. :) enjoy your busy day tomorrow!! i love the feeling of accomplishment after a busy day too!

The apples here have been horrid all summer. I thought we would have good ones before now, but No. I will look into going to one of the orchards around and see if it's time or what...... NO Exercise.

i must update one more time today. I shouldn't be acting this way, especially because this is the EASIEST of all jobs i have had in the past 4 years, including this year. I have NO reason to not be able to accomplish what i wish. But, I AM ruining it for myself.

I am going on a 1200 calorie diet. And i would really like to say i will not binge again.

today was not as good as the preceeding days...and my pants are getting really tight!!!

i need to be mature about all of this. i'm acting really immature, eating whatever i wish. this is not smart.

i've been buying stuff out of the vending machine at lunch. It's pretty much on a daily basis. it's not healthy, but i was figurring that would be a great way to end cravings. nah. it's not working. I still binged after school.

therefore, i will have to change my mindset. yet again.

no more junk good. more veggies. my skin is bad because i've been eating bad.

calories are BAD: 5,000.

I think when people make the transition from student to job, that gaining weight can be a fairly typical occurrence. Maybe not 5000 calories worth, but still understandable. I gained 20lb with my first full-time job and finally, I decided that I was going to put away the scale and just practice healthy habits. I did this for 6 months, and I dropped 43lb, a loss I maintained up through my courtship (dating), marriage and married life. Of course, it all went to hell in a handbasket with my pregnancy(-ies), but that's a different story.

What I"m trying to say is that rather than count calories and weighing in... maybe it would be better to focus on living and moving out on your own or going to radiology school -- things unrelated to diet and exercise -- for a while.

Like Donkey, I also gained weight with my first full-time and responsible job, however I subsequently lost that weight by buying myself a scale and eating and exercising with much more enthusiasm than ever before. Sometimes it's difficult to say what will work for you. You need to figure that out for yourself.

I am finding out that my eating has a direct correlation with my feelings. When I eat well, I feel happier and more content with my life and myself. When you're more balanced and consistent with everything you do, life will go a lot more smoothly. Things will make sense. Willpower will be strong.

i think you did a great job today!! I'm hoping to buy a bike soon to use that form of exercise also! I think it's wonderful. :) Thank you so much for your encouragement on my site. You can't know how much I appreciate it. The fight IS a mental one, which is why it's so hard I think. But day by day, I feel like I'm getting stronger. exercise: 1.25 miles in morning. i'll also count half the time i was at the fair. 1 hr walking. total exercise: 1 hr, 25 min :)

total oct: 17 hrs, 40 min :)

today was a good day.

total cal: 1800.

Breakfast: cereal and protein powder: 320

snack: veggie burger and broccoli slaw. kombucha.

snack: protein bar from special k. good! 180 cal.

lunch: ham on whole wheat with some spray butter. green pepper.

snack at fair: 3 pickles

dinner: subway wrap and sun chips...and a chocolate ice...and some protein powder and water mixed. (too many calories here, but not really, i was too hungry too many hours went by. 500 + 120 + 100 = 720 cal.)

Alot of the people using this site seem to be able to eat a lot of calories and still lose weight- I hope that I will be able to work up to 1800. I have never lost eating more that 1600- didn't matter how much I exercised. I am excited to try this diet of mine with this great online support!

Do you carry snacks with you - you mentioned the special K protein bar, south beach makes a good peanut butter one (they have a number of different flavors, the cinnamon & raisin is too sweet for me, there's a chocolate one...I haven't tried the special K ones...) so that you have something for those times when you start to get a little hungry? This might tame the hunger a bit, calm the binging a bit. Just a thought!

Sunday morning edit:

I'm doing well today. Woke up and had breafast and went back to sleep for about an hour. I woke up at 7am. I had some cereal and soy protein mix and it was all very good. 320.

I had a snack of a veggie burger and broccoli slaw with dressing. 185.

I had another snack of Kombucha. I cleaned my room and did laundry.

Now, i'm going out for a walk at the park. Then, lunch. Then, to an Oyster Festival, haha!, with some friends. I live on the east coast - and there's always great things to do this time of year. :)


Saturday PM entry:

today was an overall good day.

Breakfast = bran cereals and water/protein powder peanut butter flavor mix. 315 cal.

snack: coffee 40

lunch: subway wrap (some kind of white wrap) with roast beef and harvest cheddar sun chips 520

snack: kombucha, veggie burger and broccoli slaw with spray dressing 205

dinner: subway again, different place. They had DIFFERENT wraps here. I liked it better because the wrap was whole wheat and larger than the white wrap i had for lunch. I had salsa flavor sun ships. 500

snack: diet coke. i might have something else later. It's only 8:39 and i'm getting all snacky already. Dinner was at 7:30 so i really shouldn't be hungry. and tomatoes (40)

1620 calories.

I did 5.5 miles at the park. This park is awesome because one way is half that mileage. So, going back and forth only once gets a whole lot of miles down!

time: 110 minutes (1 hr, 50 min.)

total oct exercise: 16 hrs, 15 min :)

Saturday afternoon edit: I'm having a good day. I had a cereal breakfast with protein powder. Lots of bran to get things moving. I went to see the movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age. It was pretty good. some gorey parts, nothing too bad. I had a decaf coffee during the movie.

I had lunch at 1:30 and was sooooo shakey before eating. It was sick! I bought sun chips and a roast beef wrap. I had to drink a whole 20 ounce or whatever it was of water, taking my time, before leaving Subway. I came home and took a nap!! Did some laundry, ironing. I drank a little Kombucha and now I'm off to the park. Btw, i felt better after lunch. I had breakfast around 9:15 and it was awhile since breakfast before lunch, which contributed to the shakeyness.

865 calories + kombucha = 925 calories :)



45 min exercise.

total = 14 hrs, 25 min :)

calories: 2330 (added a green pepper before bed)

lol. i just have to laugh. binged on 5 packets cinnamon oatmeal. right out of the packages with a spoon. no liquid

total cal today: 2300.

calories so far are 1660. didn't stick to any kind of low sugar plan. breakfast = pretzels 220 bc i was running late and the selection at school that i had to choose from was HORRIBLE!

snack = veggie burger and tomatoes = good snack. = 130

lunch = ham, alfalfa sprouts and tomatoes = 200

snack after school/binge = alfalfa sprouts (whole container), carrots, 4 veggie burgers, 2 yogurts with fruit flavor and lots of sugar in them along with 2 scoops of protein. 1110

want to know some gross information? I have been eating so much that my body can hardly hold it in anymore. I have trouble walking around and feel like I constantly need to use the bathroom. LOL, sadly, you can't do that while teaching at school. I actually had to wear something protective so that I had no major accidents until being able to get to the bathroom. That's disgraceful!!!

Yes, you need to keep working at it. It's a process, and I truly believe that each person needs to find the process that works for them. For example, cold turkey won't work for everyone. You also have to want to stop the destructive habit. Do you think this is the case with you, or do you think that maybe somewhere deep down inside, you're enjoying the "kid in the candy store / eat all you can eat" feeling?

2300 calories isn't that bad. I've done 2400 and called it a good day before. I think it's the WAY you're eating most of your calories all at once that I worry about. And if you're at the point where it's interfering with your daily life, e.g. protective undergarments, well... that's probably a red flag, don't you think?

Are you able to snack throughout the day? I know it might be hard to get into the routine at first, but it might help with the shakiness you're feeling and maybe even the bingeing too. Give it a try?

13 hrs, 40 min :) exercise.

so, again with the plan: i like an emphasis on some protein. carbs might give me energy but i always find myself binging on them. I have always recieved greatest success with a diet with ample protein and more veggies/fruits than i've been eating. so, i need to somehow come back to reality. vending machine food is junk. when i was even in high school, i hardly ever bought that stuff! Boy have things changed in the past 10 years! haha.

the plan for awhile:

breakfast can be bran cereal/fiber cereal with protein powder mixed in.

i needed to think of a good snack. I think i have one. it'll be a morningstar veggie burger and, lol, some vegetable. like, cherry tomatoes. i have such a late lunch, it doesn't work well for me at all. I'll have this snack when i'm standing in the lunchroom watching the kids. If someone says something, i'll flat out tell them that i get very hungry/shakey at that time and i need to eat something. it should be perfectly fine.

then, 2 hours later, i hvae lunch 5 minutes to 2pm. it'll be veggies and protein for awhile...no carbs from the vending machine (candy, twix, cheese-its).

when i get home, i'll allow myself a snack of course. veggies and a veggie burger or sausage or any protein. I'll make sure to mix it up a bit.

dinner: subway wrap with chips. diet coke


calories for today are 4260. I didn't think this would happen today.


Breakfast: bowl of a grain and nut cereal mixed with fiber cereal, milk, and a little protein powder. then, peanut butter sandwich. 770

no snack.

lunch: ham with cherry tomatoes and sprouts. some peanut and crackers snack from the vending machine and twix cookie bars.

when i got home, i wasn't even hungry. its raining really bad and i wasn't going to walk a half hour to get my car...and i wasn't even sure of the location because my sister hadn't told me.

i did binge: chicken noodle soup with an entire package of broccoli slaw (pretty much just 4 cups of cut up broccoli). 2 veggie burgers. then, a whole 6 ounce bag of chocolate, milano cookies, jelly candy, cinnamon roll oatmeal, chex and milk, granola and milk.

total calories: 4260.

HoP I'm sorry to see you struggling like this. I hope you can get your head round it soon, and get back to your healthy self!! I have been struggling too, but not to the same extent that you have. I'm definately coming to believe that the answer is not physical, but mental. Good luck with your efforts to get back on track :)

total calories are a whopping 4200. so, if i burned around 2,000 I still have 2200 leftover calories.

well, it ended up being a really BAD day caloriewise. It seems that since I haven't gained 30 pounds yet, I will just keep on forging ahead with my binges. This is all just very dumb.

my binge = 2100 calories. It included a full bag of chocolate and another bag of gummi candy (halloween stuff...) Now, i'll have to replace it!

Breakfast was a mix of cereal and peanut butter protein powder: 300

Snacked on Peanut Butter m&ms! 250

Lunch was a large salad of romaine and tofu with olive oil and oregano. followed by a bag of cheese-its. I almost started to buy another vending machine snack but realized that i'd had enough. 520

snack after school: 1/2 bag baby carrots, 1/2 block tofu, 2 cups of a bran cereal with 1 scoop of protein powder and some sugar free syrup. 660

Just a question...have you been tested for diabetes? Before my father was diagnosed, he was eating everything under the sun and having cravings for a very odd combination of foods. He also gained a tremendous amount of weight, and had mood swings. I am going to be tested for it within the next couple of weeks because I am worried I may have it which might explain my behavior as of late. Just a question. Take good care of yourself.

They have fasting tests that are done at your doctor or blood clinic that the doctor sends you to. They have 4, 6 or 12 hour fasts and then you go and they take your blood, and then you drink some serious glucose drink and they take it again. You might be hypo/hyperglycemic or even anemic. I am going to tell the doctor everything today and see what he ends up sending me for testing for. It can't hurt to rule out a known medical reason before exploring the mental health reasons.

Wed morning edit: I woke up an hour early to drive to the high school to retake my tuberculosis test because last time too many days went by and the reading was no longer accurate. the nurse forgot i was coming and didn't tell me she'd be at a meeting in another town all morning!!!! LOL! Hopefully i'll be able to go at lunch. Otherwise, since you need to show results over a 48 hour period, I'll have to wait till next week! Hmmm. Maybe I'll get the shot tomorrow and be able to show it to another physician over the weekend. i really want to volunteer and cannot without the proper medical records!!!


Tuesday entry:

total cal: 1990.

total exercise: 1 hr, 20 min.

total october: 12 hr, 5 min

I stuck to my food plan until lunch. haha. then, i added in a package of cheese-its from the vending machine. total calories were 1020 up till 3:30 when i got home from school.

After school: at first, i attempted a small snack which lead into a meal. The "meal" consisted of several servings of bread with protein powder and sugar free syrup on it. lol, like french toast almost! i also had a few tomatoes and tofu before eating the "french toast." calories for this stuff equals 750.

total calories so far: 1800. I'll have something later probably, in the evening. its 4:11 right now. (calories were not 1500 for the day as planned. honestly, my focus shouldn't be weight loss anyway.)

I thought about an idea for you this afternoon. How about having a consultation with a dietitian from your local hospital? Call and ask to make an appointment with a dietitian for nutritional counseling. The week before you go, write down everything you eat and how much of it, even the binges so s/he will have an idea of how you eat.

My thinking is that perhaps if you could eat more evenly throughout the day, you would not feel the need or desire to binge later in the day. And perhaps the dietitian could give suggestions of foods to add to certain meals to help you feel more "even". ?? Well, just an idea. It sounds like you had a pretty good day today though. Cheez-Its isn't so bad. We have a box of them here in the house and I reach for them from time to time. I did want to comment yesterday that peanut M&Ms are not the best snack to have in the mornings to sustain you until a late lunch. :-/

How do you like teaching, overall? How is the job going?

Donkey has a very good idea. While most insurances do not cover this type of consult (unless it is for a diagnosed medical condition that would need nutritional consult like diabetes), it usually isn't THAT expensive. I think our hospital charges $30 an hour. (Or it might be up to 40 now, I;m not sure.) But it is well worth it.
