Weight: 124.0

Today was a very good day overall. I did get a lot accomplished although i wish i studied more at the library since an older woman decided she wanted to talk my ear off!

calories: a healthy 1525. I ate a ton of healthy food today. I tried a lean cuisine I never had before: lemon chicken with brown rice risotto! It was excellent and I was so impressed with their use of brown, not white, rice!

exercise: 2hr, 10 min. yoga and 2 mile walk (i hope its about 2 mi). My mom was actually in the library...haha, i saw her as i was leaving. she said i was nuts to walk the short mile home in the cold. However, i see other people walking and its much colder in other places. I ended up driving with her home...then walking a mere 10min on the treadmill.

total exercise: 18hrs, 55min.

tomorrow i have an interview and quite a few other errands to do. It'll be one busy day!

Progress as of today: 3 lbs lost so far, only 4 lbs to go!

rlovell on 02/20/2008:
yay! i am so proud of you...hope that you are well this evening.

maria777 on 02/20/2008:
Wow...2 mile walk...that is real good and you other workout, too! Your cals look good at 1525, too!

mmuraro on 02/20/2008:
Good luck on the interview! And glad you had a good day! Mine was okay, food was good, but I went to the movies at 7 and couldnt have dinner till almost 10, which is baddddd..... and i didnt work out at all.. yay. hahaha. will be better tomorrow! have a good night.

thinnsidenotout on 02/20/2008:
It was about 32 degrees when I walked last night and a bit warmer tonight...I look like a stuffed bear walking down the road, I swear...Coat, hoody sweatshirt, scarf, mittens and an MP3 burried underneath..oh and water in hand...a couple weeks ago, it was about 25....32 is welcome!...GOod job..I like reading that you are doing better.....

borntocry on 02/21/2008:
I remember once I went out running and my husband said, "Even Carl Lewis wouldn't go running in weather like this!" That was one of the best compliments I ever got!

legcramps on 02/21/2008:
Glad to hear that you're feeling better after getting the flu, it sucks to be sick. You're doing so well on your eating!! What have you been doing to prevent the binges?

I'd love to try yoga in a 100 degree room - I think that would be very cool. Or, hot. I don't know, I wasn't trying to be literal. I've seen it on tv a few times, and it actually looks like a lot of fun! Congrats on your progress HoP!

Weight: 125.0

Evening edit:

I observed and it went well. It was really informal, no interview or anything. At the end of the hour observation, I had to write a short essay on my experience there. Not too bad at all.

I walked to the library to study today. It's a mile each way so I figure it's a GREAT way for me to get my minimal cardio in. I also fit in yoga, finally. I'm so glad I went and I feel like I sweated profusely (I do yoga in a 100 degree room), more than normal, to let all these sick germs out of my body! LOL!

Total exercise: 2hrs, 10min.

Feb ex: 16 hrs, 45 min.

total cal: about 1650.

Morning entry:

I'm definitely feeling a little better with much less aches and pains compared to yesterday. Also, I think my fever is gone since I haven't needed to wear a bazillion layers of clothing this morning. I will probably volunteer today, but only if I am feeling 100%. I also want to go to yoga since I haven't gone in a long time.

Today, I have to go to the hospital around the block from me to observe the radiagraphy department since they have invited me to do so. I wish I were feeling 100% because this will be the first hand impression they are getting of me. I am confident that it will go well.

I was up practically all night from being nervous and also sweating badly on and off because I think I still had a fever. When I weighed myself, I was greeted with a wonderful number, 125. I hope that tomorrow the scale will NOT jump up. I am on track with my weight loss goals and I guess I will lower my goal weight to 120.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 5 lbs to go!

thinnsidenotout on 02/19/2008:
Tada!!!!!!! Have a wonderful Day....Glad to hear you are feeling better...

Soon2BThin on 02/19/2008:
Congrats on the weight! Hope you continue to feel better. Have a great day!

hollybelle on 02/19/2008:
Have a good one. Glad you're on the mend.

leeumom on 02/19/2008:
Hope you feel better. I have had it for almost a week now. Caught it from Kopsman. The yorkies must think it is strange to hear all this hacking with the coughs. Maybe they think it is a new bark!! Get better and keep up the good work.

mmuraro on 02/19/2008:
Aw, too bad, I thought I found another member of the grumpy team. Hahaha. But you're right, we need to write more when we're not doing great than when we are! I am sorry you have the flu but glad you're feeling better. I'm glad that you lose the pounds too. It's good to see you're back on track. I love this website too! xo.

thinnsidenotout on 02/19/2008:
Goodness...I prefer the warmth anyday..yesterday was about 57 or I would not of went on that long walk... I don't like walking in all the cumbersome coat/sweater/scarf/mittens at all, but have had to a couple times this last 2 & 1/2 weeks...better than snow/rain I guess. It was down to about 12 degrees this a.m. when I got up @ 5....then now it is sunny and warming up to 50's again..ridding of the frosty grass...hoping I can get in the walk before 6 p.m. tonight...

borntocry on 02/19/2008:
Hey! Nice to see that lower number up there. It was scary to think that you might be venturing into the 130's!!

Hope you're feeling better. I think it was you who left a comment on someone else's diary (maybe Donkey's?) about everyone being sick lately. Well, it's true, about half the people where I work are sick and now my husband's really sick too. I feel like I'm wallowing in germs all day long. It's only a matter of time!

mcwoo40 on 02/19/2008:
Hiya, well done on your weightloss,Great to see you are in control of your food again.Hope you get better soon,I've caught my daughters cough and it's so annoying.I dare not have any cough medicine incase it's loaded with cals, how sad's that.have a great day,Julie

rlovell on 02/19/2008:
yay! hope you are feeling the benefits of your labor.

workingit2 on 02/19/2008:

mmuraro on 02/19/2008:
Ahh so when you say 'yoga', you mean Bikram? I am a huge fan of it and practice too, even though lately I haven't been going much, Im going to the dance classes. But I was thinking this weekend I may go back. Sooo great for you!

want2be_happy on 02/19/2008:
Hope that bug goes away soon! I have no idea what radiagraphy is but it sounds exciting^^!

mmuraro on 02/20/2008:
No kidding, I always have discovered Bikram maybe around 3 or so years ago. I had times when I was going 4 or 5 times a week and I felt just amazing, like nothing could go wrong in my life. It's just hard to do, because it does take most of your night on a weekday, so now I understand when you talk about finding time to do it. It's the best form of workout I ever tried in my life, though. I have a whole new appreciation for you now!! haha Namaste.

borntocry on 02/20/2008:
Hi HoP! Thanks for your comment. I think you were the only person who told me to run the half-marathon right from the start, when I first found out I was too late to register for it. I think I am still leaning towards doing it. I told my friend that I might be busy that day, so she should plan her trip around that! As for my brother, I am hoping that the reason he's so desperate to see me this weekend is because he has a birthday present for me - I will be pretty upset if I make the effort to go over there to see him and that's not the reason (just kidding)!

Oh and yeah, of course I know there are millions of people who say that water helps them lose weight... I'm just not convinced of the science behind it. Plus my lowest weights have always been when I was drinking hardly any water, whereas now I'm drinking tons of water and my weight is up. But I'll admit that my complexion does seem to have improved! At any rate, I'm sure water has more benefits than disadvantages, so I am just going to keep at it regardless...

mmuraro on 02/18/2008:
Not bad at all. Kinda makes me laugh when you have this one-line entries. Does this mean you're busy or do you also get grumpy? I get grumpy sometimes and it makes me laugh, i think it's such a funny and endearing feeling. :)

Horn_of_plenty - Sunday Feb 17, 2008

Weight: 130.0

Monday entry: EVERYONE in my house is sick, including myself. Luckily, it's nothing too bad. Kinda flu-like symptoms. Some chills, aches, pains. My sister also might be sick, she's living in New York City though. So, it's myself, mom, and dad. We are all off for President's Day.

I've been eating tasty foods and trying to watch calories. Even though i'm sick, I still like to eat! :)

I'm not sure about yoga...I want to go but not if i'm feeling very sick.

Sunday evening entry:

I'm taking a good guess and saying that my calories for today are 2100. I did a TON of walking around NYC. I am going to list 3hrs for exercise...I walked way more than that, but this is generous enough!! :)

I met a friend of mine for a mini-reunion at Penn Station which is where the Long Island Railroad comes into NYC. We went for lunch at a VERY inexpensive chinese place, my entire lunch costed just $3. Crazy! I got a huge plate of vegetable dumplings and a pint of beef wonton soup. Of course I ate it all, but that was all the eating I did with her. I like having a change of pace and eating things I usually wouldn't!

Afterwards, we took a subway to the building we used to rehearse in with an orchestra. We had an exciting time exploring that area and walked around Central Park for awhile. After that, we took a tram (overhead trolly like a ski lift that fits like 40 people standing up) to an island off of Manhatten called Roosevelt Island. It was FREEZING since the island is surrounded by water. The island is so small and there was really nothing on it to do. Roosevelt Island has apartment buildings, a few schools, a supermarket and just about nothing else. People are not generally attracted to move to this island, but it is cheaper for those who cannot afford Manhatten prices, even though it's close to Manhattan. We were glad to have seen it, since I've seen Roosevelt Island at a distance so many times, but I will probably never go back. The tram was free for me because I had bought an unlimited subway card which can also be used for the tram, which i thought was VERY neat! After, we went to a few discount stores, haha my friend loves discounts. It was a GREAT day.

I got home around 7:45 and made dinner.

exercise: 3hrs

total ex: 14hrs, 35 min. I'm happy to see this number improving! :)

calories: 2100

Progress as of today: -3 lbs lost so far, only 5 lbs to go!

mmuraro on 02/17/2008:
Ahhh, awesome. 2100 with 3+ hours walking is really good. I love NYC, and how cool are you that you were part of an orchestra before? what do you play?

mmuraro on 02/17/2008:
OMG, Carnegie Hall? I am totally impressed!!! Have a good night!

thinnsidenotout on 02/17/2008:
How fun!......The scenery on my page today is not of my immediate area, but such scenery is within 20-25 miles....Forrest/Evergreen everywhere....We traveled the North Cascades Highway for a week a few years back with my parents and it was all within 150 miles of us.... We live at the foothills of bigger an' better to the West of us...HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

MsKitty on 02/18/2008:
It sounds really interesting there. I have always wanted to take my sister soon to be inlaw to NYC she has ranted and raved for so long about wanting to. Wow I want to go somewhere thats only 3$ a plate...sheeeeshhhh wait... I would probably totally ruin my diet. lol Very tempting

harleygirl79 on 02/18/2008:
I give ya credit, I could never live in that city. I can't stand the crowds. Cleveland is busy, but I stay away from downtown as much as possible. Give me my land in Missouri, 10 miles from town and 81 acres from anyone else. Great job on the walking. Have a great day.

workingit2 on 02/18/2008:
There was a movie that featured Roosevelt Island, came out last year..was a scary movie but I really can't remember the name. Now that is going to drive me crazy all day lol. How nice that you had a great day! Have another today =)

workingit2 on 02/18/2008:
Dark Water, that's the one! Wow 2005 eh? Time flies LOL Hope you are feeling better SOON. When I have the flu, I like to eat chocolate LOL

Donkey on 02/18/2008:
Wow, how did your sister manage to move out of the house finally???

mmuraro on 02/18/2008:
hope you feel better I was like that a week ago. yuck. about yoga, if you don't have a fever, you can go, if you do, you should stay in and rest. I usually don't have energy to workout when I am sick, but some people feel better when they do, so I would say, listen to your body. And drink plenty of water! Get well soon!

Horn_of_plenty - Saturday Feb 16, 2008

Weight: 130.0

today I had a good breakfast which i found really tasty. plain yogurt, 1/4 cup oats, 1/2 cup pumpkin and 1/2 cup blueberry topping sugar free. The blueberry topping was GREAT! I had 80 cals worth, but it is like a syrup with blueberry pieces in it and doesn't taste diet at all. 80 calories for a 1/2 cup is excellent for products like that. My whole breakfast was 275 cals.

I'm off to yoga in a little while. I haven't been there in so long it's taking major motivation to get myself there...

LOL...no yoga because i went to study at the library.

Looks like you've got a good day planned with your breakfast and yoga! Hope you've had a good Saturday! Big smile to you!

mmuraro on 02/17/2008:
I like your breakfast! Yum! And I'm glad you had a good day today. 1hr 40 min walk is pretty good. keep up, girl!

shadetree on 02/17/2008:
I read an article in the Sunday paper about the rise of exorcisms in the Catholic Church, it was mainly about a Polish priest who has done I don't know how many over the past five years or so, and the reasoning for the rise in exorcisms was people turning to alternative medicine, internet addictions, and yoga...I couldn't quite figure out why they pinpointed yoga as a contributor to the need for exorcisms...Good thing you aren't Catholic or they'd be sprtizing you with Holy water:) [Please do not take offense if anyone is Catholic - I myself am Catholic, and I just don't see the correlation between yoga and evil.] Hope you are having a good day!

Looks we walk the same pace....takes me between 35-45 minutes, depending on how muddy/wet it is....I live on a county dirt (mud) road....4 days a week I have a bit of an incline the 1st mile, then the other 3 days, I take another route and there is a HUGE incline the 1st 1/2 mile..

Godiva? Yummers!..... Have a great evening!

mmuraro on 02/14/2008:
Yay, I logged on to check on you and I am really glad you had a good day. Not going to yoga is fine if you went for a walk. Tomorrow should be even better, even because the godiva is gone :)

Enjoy those chocolates, then get right back "to it". Have a great weekend!

contessa on 02/15/2008:
I hope you liked those chocolates! Back to work, Missy!

hollybelle on 02/15/2008:
Not so bad - 4 chocolates - and Godiva, at that. I think I had about oh, say 20!!!! I didn't even track food yeterday! Today is a different story, though. I am hoping for a really low cal day today since yesterday was - well - ridiculous!

Donkey on 02/15/2008:
I wanted to comment on the night sweats. I get those too, after eating a lot. I can really feel the "furnace" kick in. Kind of neat to feel your metabolism. Then again, kind of scary to think that it's working so hard in overdrive like that.

I have been doing the moderation thing with my box(es) of chocolate this year. One after dinner, and maybe one after lunch. My meals don't seem complete without a sweet at the end. :-(

What are your interviews for, during break?

Horn_of_plenty - Wednesday Feb 13, 2008

Weight: 127.0

thursday: i feel upset and determined today. how can i have such different feelings at the same time. I'm truly battling many feelings right now. I know its not right to be jealous of thinner people, but i'm feeling a lot of that these days. I'm excited for break. I will have two interviews, volunteering for a couple days, and studying amongst other things. I'm excited not to be working and geat an even better start on weightloss. Now, I said this before Christmas week. This time, I'm more adiment. Enough with giving in. I'm working towards it, I really really want it. I'm ready to take the step. It is not hard. I just have to plan.

This is my problem: the course i'm taking is anatomy and physiology. 4 credits, only 13 actual classes. LOTS of info to memorize, little time to do it. It definitely is cutting into time i could use to exercise/do yoga. I am also EATING because of stress and my inability to start studying right after work. I have so much on my mind with this class that i find it hard to go to a yoga class before studying and i just end up eating for at least 2 hours straight and being full and pissed the rest of the night...with some studying. at least the index cards are all written up. I like index cards because it's black and white...what you know and what you don't know! I can easily sort out what needs more review and what doesn't. I have TWO tests in about a week and a half since my class this Sunday was cancelled due to President's Week!

So this is my issue. I am NOT spending all my time well...binging is wasted time. I'm not really angry at myself...only when i have to get dressed in the morning and my wardrobe fits terribly...and when i have to walk around work feeling fatter and gross. So, I'm working on it. I will spend my break at the library...instead of my house. I may even pack meals and just go there straight from yoga and just STAY OUT of my house. There is a huge possibiliy i will do this. I don't think i can come home anymore after work. I am thinking of BTC as i say this. lol. goodnight.

still having trouble with the diet.

4700 cal today. binge after work.

total ex so far: 15min...

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 17 lbs to go!

thinnsidenotout on 02/13/2008:
Uh oh......

workingit2 on 02/13/2008:
Sorry I haven't been leaving messages and now I am leaving this canned message lol..thoughts are with you, keep up the fight!

mmuraro on 02/13/2008:
No, noooo... Let's think of something for these binges to stop... And I am not even worried about your weight, as I am about this behavior.. It's not a healthy one, but I know you know that. Maybe if you get a friend to study with you won't binge? Or go to the movies, do something to be occupied until you go to bed... Teas will help too, if you wanna have something on your mouth. They're warm for the winter and taste good... Try a few of those tricks tomorrow if you can. I think keeping yourself occupied is a great way to avoid this. Good luck!

mmuraro on 02/13/2008:
Yes girl, leave your house. At least until you feel more in control. I think that may be good for you. And good for you you're not mad at yourself. This wouldn't help you anyway! Good night and let me know how tomorrow goes!

borntocry on 02/14/2008:
Finally!!! Pack healthy stuff - what works best for me is stuff I will eat, but preferably nothing I love so much that I'll just gobble it up instantly and then panic, thinking that I'll get hungry later and have nothing left.

I always find that I waste so much time at home. I'm either eating, or watching T.V. or thinking of some snack to prepare for myself. If I want to do anything productive at all, even if it's just reading people's diaries and leaving comments, I'm better off staying here at work to do it!

crategrl on 02/14/2008:
Are you eating at Fast Food places? If so maybe look at the cost aspect of your binging. Figure out the dollar amount that you spend and this may also help in getting a grasp on not only what this costs in terms of your finances but to your overall health as well.

hollybelle on 02/14/2008:
September is a long way off and you can't go on like this. Take lots of deep breaths and focus on what you want to happen. You can pull it off. I, too, have a hard time remembering that food does not cure stress!

rlovell on 02/14/2008:
Let yourself feel your feelings. Know you are in control of your life and how you want to live it: do you want to life half-consciously or do you want to be involved in your life and therefore the lives of others? Binges mask our pain, our guilt inflames that pain and we become numb. You are bright, beautiful and sensitive! Let your soul shine through!

I just looked and see I have 17 lbs to loose! That is NOT much! It really isn't...can i consider it done? What if I say I'm happy about today and ready for all the days ahead, whatever they bring? lol. i'm still on the ball.

edit: 2555 cal.

binge. cookie temptations...its ok.

I may have been slightly bingy after work, but I am not even interested in eating anything unhealthy. I've decided to stay home all evening, no yoga. I could have volunteered/did yoga but I just want to study. Of course, I will try to get in a 1/2 hour walk and will try NOT to binge. I have no intentions on binging.

It's snowing! LOL. It was so warm this winter until yesterday, i forgot we actually can get snow here on Long Island! hahaha!

Have a good evening everyone.

thinnsidenotout on 02/12/2008:
Not snowing here (WA.St.) but on my walk, suddenly it started blowing fierce wind and the air turned frigid cold...probably blowing in a storm... Bummer!

You are doing better with your positive thoughts as far as eating healthier/not binging...Good to hear...Keep it up!

mmuraro on 02/12/2008:
Hmm, my calories change everyday too. I usually go from the 1200s to 1700, then 1400, etc. But not planned either, just according to what I eat or how my day is like. I don't go over 2000, besides that bad sunday night, when i did 2300, which is not totally terrible. I haven't been exercising enough, especially since I have been having a fever the last 4 days, but still, i should have a calorie deficit more than enough to lose weight, so the plateau annoys me a good bit... sigh... Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to exercise. Thanks!

kkaahh11 on 02/13/2008:
yessss i have a snowday!

Night entry:

I'm still debating about exercising before breakfast... 20min is so little though...so i should definitely be able to exercise before i eat, right? I'd eat right after.

although i felt fat and totally out of my usual yoga practice while there, it was worth it. I may actually skip volunteering (and possibly volunteer extra on my week off) to go to yoga tomorrow because right now I feel that I need to do yoga for about 2 weeks straight to really fuel my weightloss so i can feel as good as possible when i go back to work. I do have work this week, but I don't have a test in my class on Sunday, so I DON'T want to sit home when i can be at yoga. make sense? does to me!

I basically want to do things for me, since these past two weeks i spent laying down in bed studying and not exercising, so I'm going to take advantage of that for these TWO weeks. ok, enough of that!

calories: Good! 1550. Happy about that for sure.

exercise: 1.5 hours.

total ex: 8hrs, 5min. I have a lot more yet to do that's for sure!

afternoon entry:

so far...today is good and i'm forcing myself to go to yoga even though i feel a little on the too full side and because i've gained a couple and don't feel like looking at myself in the mirror. despite these things, I will try to get a 20 min walk in each morning because I noticed i was really tired at work today since i had not taken an early morning walk. so, 20 min walk, then breakfast! that's my new plan.

Progress as of today: -2 lbs lost so far, only 19 lbs to go!

good job. the more yoga the do, the more centered and in touch with your body you will be. you will find that you will love yourself even more- even if you think you will hate your mirror image.

ps- edamame is the secret! it is the ONLY legume that is its own succint form of protein. So much fiber, protein and goodness...and low cal. the best part is that you have to pop it into your mouth which slows you down and not nearly as fattening or dense as nuts. i sometimes buy different flavors of fancy sea salts and treat myself as if i were in a high-class sushi bar. YUM.

rlovell and I were competing at lunch to see who had the biggest pile of empty pods. :) as for the tanning, i think if you go and do it for 8 or 10 minutes tops (depending on the color of your skin and dont forget to wear sunblock) it's not really bad for you. but the best is to sit outside when it's sunny, even if you don't tan, but just get some sun on your face and body.

Sunlight is a good source of Vitamin D...just thought I'd mention that. A 20 minute walk in the morning is great...it gets your engine running. I take Chica for about a 20 minute walk every morning before I go to work. I eat once I get to work, around 7:30. I have to say that I really admire your ability to do Yoga. I have found that Yoga is HARD and very effective. Take care of yourself and enjoy the next two weeks. Blessings!

mmuraro on 02/11/2008:
If you can, keep the 20 min walk in the morning, even though it doesnt sound a lot of calories burned, it's great to kick start your metabolism and give you energy for the day! Good for you about yoga! Keep up and buy edamame. haha.

Hiya, they say you should exercise before breakfast as it burns more fat??I think it does set you up for the day mentally, gets your endorphins going.Keep going,Julie

Many people exercise before breakfast. Personally, I find it hard. I've done it a few times but generally I had eaten a lot the night before. If that's not the case, I prefer to have a small snack before. There are these mini-powerbars which are half the size of normal ones. Have you seen them? Those make a great pre-workout snack because they are too small to weigh on your stomach, even if you eat them right before you workout. Or you could even suck on a small sweet or something. This is really the only time sugar is just what you need - when you need a quick energy boost but don't want to fill up your tummy!

thanks for your comment. I do try to take time for myself and am glad that you are also making that a priority in your life. I'm always the nurturer in my group of friends, so that's not something that comes easily to me, but I've realized in the past few years how badly my life spirals out of control when I'm trying to meet everyone else's needs while neglecting my own. This time is MINE so I'm trying my best to prove faithful in it! :) You sound like you're doing great and I'm proud of all of your hard work with yoga! Keep it up! :)

CritterMom on 02/12/2008:
I usually have some plain yogurt or a small handful of nuts before I exercise...but NOT a whole meal. Just can't consume, then work out. :)
