(CR & IF & Exercise)
Weight: 117.6

Weight the same as yesterday.   Beginning to conclude 1000 cal is my daily requirement.   Can't lose weight if it's higher. Reading 1200-1500 is typical for my size.   Guess I have slower metabolism.   Which I'm reading is healthy.

Getting stressed over the Monday doc visit. Reading a minor knee ligament sprain should heal in 2-4 weeks and I'm like 2-3 months.   Currently thinking it's a tear that will require surgery. Read it is usually done with either local or general anesthesia.   This one study said local easier on the patient. Shorter recovery & the general better for the surgeon. Why?   All the better for their upcoming Farrari payment?

Annie, did you see the article above in today's WaPo?   I'd call that a meal!   Looks wonderful, but oh! The calories!  Deep fried sausage.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 12/03/2020:
I hope you don't need surgery for your knee!

I've never had a Scotch egg, but I've hand plenty of full Scottish breakfasts when we've been out overnight. Eggs, sausage, (British)bacon, potato scones, black/blood pudding, baked beans, fried tomatoes. Close to 2,000 calories.

Our local pub has dine in meals - socially distanced - and also a couple of times a week you can order fish and chips to pick up. OMG. I'm craving fish and chips! Maybe as a reward when I get below 150.

Jacky82020 on 12/03/2020:
Love fish & chips with malt vinegar. Wow! That’s some breakfast! I’d have to request a doggie bag.

bearcountrygg on 12/03/2020:
One thing...They are being quite choosy about surgeries these days...so maybe if it gets put off you will get healed before that happens. If they do decide to operate...it may be outpatient right now especially...Hubby had a knee replacemnt a couple of years ago and he only spent one night. Pic looks delish!

Jacky82020 on 12/03/2020:
I delayed calling the doc for months because I thought it would heal. He is not a surgeon, so don’t know what the orthopedists he works will do. Fine with me if they postpone! Hoping they will say it won’t get any worse & will very very slowly heal. I don’t want to shell out the money! Our policy says $250 copay for out patient procedures and then they add hundreds of dollars more. I am having a terrible time on stairs. Have to do these little half steps and lean on the railing. Tried a regular step yesterday. Quickly realized I’d fall flat on my face and down the stairs!

Horn_of_plenty on 12/03/2020:
I am SURE you could lose weight at higher calories, but not as fast as you'd like to! i'm sure you'd agree with me! you've done amazingly well so far.

that breakfast looks outstanding. it'd be VERY hard for me to want to indulge in those 2000cal breakfasts that annie is talking about! she surely knows how to let loose and enjoy herself when on holiday / vaca!

btw, sorry about all my typos - i hardly ever proofread on here...and i noticed i had many in the past couple days.

(CR & IF & Exercise)
Weight: 117.6

Made a fortuitous discovery re frozen  vegetables. They are apparently precooked to some degree & if defrosted only need to be heated in the microwave.   Love this mix.  Skipped the beans for dinner, went with the cabbage & onions & veg mix. John Clement says we eat too much protein.  50 grams a 4 days a week is ok with 3 days at 25 grams.   Something to do with nitrogen metabolism.  I need to reread this section of his book.

Calculating my daily nutritional intake. 52 gms protein. 36 grams fat. 87 gms carbs.   900 calories.  Trying to eat same things everyday: soybeans, vegetables, 2 multigrain English muffins topped with hot mustard and cheese or PB and honey.  Some days I am off & eat a banana or dessert nights.   But other days I am not hungry and eat less.   There's room for optimization in these choices & I'm working on it.

The 116+ didn't last the night, so I'm back in the 117s.   Oh well, tomorrow is another day & I'll be good today.

Checked on the kombucha.  Day 5.   Has floating cultures, sure as hell hoping they're the good guys and not deadly pathogens.   Saw ppl selling their homemade starters for as low as $6 on eBay. The first I noticed were by big companies who wanted $35.   Read more reviews and seems ppl getting good results with SCOBYs from both sources. Me May just buy one on eBay for my next experiment.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 12/02/2020:
Maybe that floating stuff will become part of the scoby?

Jacky82020 on 12/02/2020:
That’s what I’m hoping! Never did this before but just read the bad guys are grey & green & black and other colors. Not tan like mine are, but still looks kinda creepy. I went ahead & ordered a SCOBY from Texas on eBay. The guy has 100% positive feedback. $6.50. Shipping included.

Jacky82020 on 12/03/2020:
Yes! That’s it exactly

grannyannie on 12/02/2020:
Yea, you don't want the bad stuff! $6.50 sounds good.

Jacky82020 on 12/02/2020:
Yep! Hoping it arrives soon. Have all the required teas and bought a pound of granulated sugar last time. Will have to hunt around for a wide mouthed jar. They say it works best.

innerpeace on 12/02/2020:
I took a gym class and one of the girls were giving scobys away. She said her house smelled like a fermentation lab she had so many in the making process.

Jacky82020 on 12/02/2020:
Wow! Not there yet! We shall see. No detectable odors yet.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/02/2020:
well, def do more research to make sure yours is the healthy variety and good for you!....

nice job finding a seller that isn't breaking your bank on costs.

how much longer will you wait before it's truly finished?

Jacky82020 on 12/02/2020:
Need to see a thick SCOBY on the surface. Maybe 10-12 days? idk

Horn_of_plenty on 12/02/2020:
and you are keeping the mix out of the fridge, right?

Jacky82020 on 12/02/2020:
Yes. 80 degrees ideal, but my bird room, warmest in house, is 72-74 usually. Hearing of ppl making it at cooler temps, just takes longer.

Donkey on 12/02/2020:
Whoa, that is a cool photo! But you just drink the liquid, not the floaties on top, correct?

Jacky82020 on 12/02/2020:
Didn’t sample it. The whole thing is supposed to age a few weeks. Tasted the black garlic on day 7 and it’s getting there. Takes a few weeks as well, depending on prep. The store bought one claims be aged 90 days, but the fermenter coming from Amazon Friday says it can do the job in 9-12 days.

I have Amazon Prime and it’s no longer 2 day delivery. Sucks.

Jacky82020 on 12/03/2020:
Misread your comment from yesterday. I’m not drinking the SCOBY. Guess some do since it’s in some store bought bottles

Horn_of_plenty on 12/02/2020:
my friends, i have a married couple that i'm refering to, always mircowave those bags of veggies. if you do, try to at least season it a little bit!? they love to microwave it and just eat the whole thing...the husband, he has a big appetite and can eat large amounts of just about anything!

Jacky82020 on 12/03/2020:
I slather everything with hot sauce! Thinking of hot mustard, but it may have too much sodium. Will check.

Maria7 on 12/03/2020:
I like frozen veggies, too, especially corn and broccoli. Only have to microwave and eat.

Jacky82020 on 12/03/2020:
Yep, love them. Quick & easy. Not into chopping up the fresh & think the nutrition is the same.

Maria7 on 12/03/2020:
Had fresh (from raised garden bed) and frozen today. Both kinds were fresh tasting and delicious. Had green bell pepper I picked this morning from the raised garden bed. Still got onions out there, too. Had broccoli and corn that was frozen (was microwaved) to go with boiled steak, green bell pepper, and onions for lunch.

Jacky82020 on 12/03/2020:
Sounds fantastic! I am thinking about growing garlic. Guess I’d have to wait until spring. idk

Jacky82020 - Tuesday Dec 01, 2020
(CR & IF & Exercise)
Weight: 116.6

So this is my dinner for the next 3 or 4 days.   No breakfast or lunch anymore.   Just dinner and something between 9-10pm.  Cooked the cabbage with onions.   Tossed them in first. Followed HOP's suggestion to use olive oil. Added 2 tablespoons and seemed like way too much.  Don't mind the 240 calories; food looked oily.   Tasted great.  Planned on waiting until 5 to eat when the husband does, but was starving in the kitchen while fixing dinner for the doggies. So sampled it.

Big overnight weight drop, which means of course, it won't stick.   That's the way it goes with me. I could fast all day & still have it pop by dawn tomorrow.   Goal remains to hit 115 by 1/1/21 & I see that on the horizon!

Checked the black garlic after 7 days and it's black!   Very good, but the store bought was better.   They said it was aged 90 days.   Quickest times I'm reading about are 9-12 in a dedicated garlic maker.   Mine should arrive Friday. Will test the garlic in the rice cooker on days 10, 11, etc.

Progress as of today: 17.4 lbs lost so far, only 6.6 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 12/01/2020:
That is interesting...wonder what makes it turn black.

Jacky82020 on 12/01/2020:
It’s called the Maillard Reaction, a chemical process between amino acids and sugars. Gives baked/cooked foods the distinctive and yummy brown crispiness. Like what you see in biscuits & cookies etc

bearcountrygg on 12/01/2020:
Oh...I see. Flavor.

Jacky82020 on 12/01/2020:
Yep! Wonderful sweet flavor in this case. Nothing like raw garlic. And totally different texture, kinda gummy.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/01/2020:
congrats on your weight loss. wow. fast!!

that garlic looks fantastic. i think i might want to try this technique too. !!!

Jacky82020 on 12/01/2020:
Thanks, HOP All it takes are healthy food choices and eating less. Wouldn’t be caught dead in restaurants some of my buddies frequent like Red Lobster, Chipotle, Golden Corral, Olive Grove etc etc Not even with a voucher for free food!

Have this one huge friend, maybe a 300 pounder, who dines out often ( or does pickup/delivery) and says she never goes over 1800 cal or day. Yeah, right! Has gigantic homemade breakfasts usually involving bacon & sausages. Very sad and delusional. Her husband and kids are morbidly obese as well. Feel so sorry for the kids.

legcramps on 12/01/2020:
Yum that garlic sure looks good!

Jacky82020 on 12/01/2020:
So much fun experimenting with cooking techniques. Loving it!

grannyannie on 12/01/2020:
The garlic sounds so interesting. Never heard of it before you started posting about it.

Jacky82020 on 12/01/2020:
Never heard of it either until very recently when I began researching Super Foods. Always knew garlic was healthy. The black ones allow ppl to devour many. I could snack on them like a bag of chips.

Horn_of_plenty on 12/01/2020:
i also know some "dilusional" eaters...one woman is such a good cook....she just knows so much and has such a wide and varied palate, that if she were to eat as light as it takes for her to become "thin," it would probably be like her going to "hell"...sorry to say it that way...

...sometimes, a person's experiences and life have such an effect on what's doable....i know i'm being confusing here, but i know what's on my mind at least! lol

Jacky82020 on 12/01/2020:
Gotcha. Meant delusional in the sense of gorging six hours at a buffet with meals and six desserts and saying I did 1800 calories today.

horn_of_plenty on 12/01/2020:
Maybe if too much oil use half next time ! But I’m sure it was tasty ! :-)

Jacky82020 on 12/02/2020:
I will! One tablespoon. Yes, it tasted great! Next time I will use more onions and only cook half the cabbage. Added this huge chopped up head on top of the caramelizing onions and couldn’t really stir. So the onions kept darkening and the cabbage was way behind. Still good.

Donkey on 12/01/2020:
Wow! Great weigh-in! You are getting so close to goal! I really admire your self discipline. I will remember this, for when I struggle at 3p at work, or like after dinner.

Jacky82020 on 12/02/2020:
Thanks, Donkey, too bad I popped up a pound overnight & I didn’t eat more than usual. But it’s sure to drop back if I stay the course.

Jacky82020 - Monday Nov 30, 2020
(CR & IF & Exercise)
Weight: 118.2

Was reading on CNN and an Amazon   Cyber Monday ad popped up.   Annie, been thinking about a pressure cooker ever since you mentioned your husband uses one for beans.   Beans are part of my Super Nutrient diet, so will always have some in the fridge, ready to heat up.    It wasp $79, same model $99 last week as I recall.

Lost my eBay bid on a black garlic fermenter and it was just as well.   The seller invited offers and he countered mine with 54 cents less on an $80 machine.  Many on eBay, running significantly below the $120 Amazon price.   Chose this seller over others because he said he was in NJ and rest In California.   So!   turns out they are all in China.   If you click in the right place, their true location is revealed, however a few appear to use a US account of someone else.   After more research decided upon an entirely different machine at Amazon that cost $120. Multifunctional.  Can make black garlic, natto, yogurt and rice wine.   Only interested in the former pair.

The two rice cookers still making the garlic. Will test a bulb from one on Friday, about the 12th day.  Can't fathom these ppl saying the stench is horrendous and to place the cookers in the garage etc. No odor unless I'm standing near the pot.   Has to be a bunch of Liar Bloggers who never made any!

Progress as of today: 15.8 lbs lost so far, only 8.2 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 11/30/2020:
Looks like a nice appliance.

Jacky82020 on 11/30/2020:
Thanks. Hoping it works out. Love the black garlic and refuse to pay $30/pd when I can buy the fresh bulbs for $3/pd.

Horn_of_plenty on 11/30/2020:
some people have really sensitive noses, like my MOM!

if someone's chewing a pretzel next to her or eating pb, she thinks it's just the worst! she prob wouldn't like the garlic smell then...

....maybe people don't like smelling garlic for two weeks straight.

like you, i doubt i'd give it too much thought or mind! congrats on the new cooker. take photos of when you put it to use and the food inside!

also take photos later of your own black garlic, assuming the 12 days goes as planned, fingers crossed!

Jacky82020 on 11/30/2020:
Thing is we don’t smell anything unless we’re near the pots. Guess others must have powerful snoots. Sure can tell when the dogs & husband are farting! Cooking chicken in the crockpot now for my fussy old dog & can smell that all over the house.

grannyannie on 11/30/2020:
Expensive stuff if you buy it already made.

Jacky82020 on 11/30/2020:
Yep, ridiculous. I could buy Xanax and weed for less. lol

grannyannie on 12/01/2020:
Jacky, you asked why our lochs are not called bays. Look at the map I posted yesterday and you'l see.

Jacky82020 on 12/01/2020:
I saw! Wonderful photos! Thanks 4 posting! Sure Nessie’s cousin doesn’t swim by?

Donkey on 12/01/2020:
Ooo, a new toy! I like that you can use it for various projects!

Jacky82020 on 12/01/2020:
Gonna be lots of fun! Especially given all the stuck in the house days. I don’t see an end in sight. Even with the vaccine, too many will refuse it. And it may not to be as effective in all as they’re saying.

Jacky82020 - Sunday Nov 29, 2020
(CR & IF & Exercise)
Weight: 118.2

Tried this for dinner.   Bland!   An Indonesian soy product, no better nutritional value than the boiled soybeans. They often deep fry it and smother with sauces.   I heated this in the microwave and used hot sauce.   Was curious, won't buy again.   Costs a lot more than the beans.
Had with the cooked slaw.   Maybe 400 calories, tops.  Can't wait until my English muffins with PB & honey later.   Pic not uploading.

Progress as of today: 15.8 lbs lost so far, only 8.2 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 11/29/2020:
Went back and added pic as a SS

Horn_of_plenty on 11/29/2020:
so you didn't like it too much? yeah, i don't think i'd like it much either. and if it's generally the same nutrition as a soy bean, i think i'd prefer the bean too!

Jacky82020 on 11/29/2020:
Nothing special. Tastes like the beans & costs much more, maybe 25X as much, possibly more. Probably contains some crappy preservatives too

bearcountrygg on 11/29/2020:
I think I would be looking forward to the English muffin too...LOL

Jacky82020 on 11/29/2020:
I’m dying for them! But really should get past my love or eating late and binge watching medical dramas. Keep reading calories metabolized more efficiently during the day.

Maria7 on 11/30/2020:
Sometimes we don't know if we will like something unless we try it. Hope you are having a good day.

Jacky82020 on 11/30/2020:
Ain’t that the truth, girlfriend! You have a terrific day too!

Jacky82020 - Saturday Nov 28, 2020
(CR & IF & Exercise)
Weight: 117.6

LOOK, HOP!

Not my usual dinner of soybeans & cabbage.   Made a pot roast with potatoes, carrots and onions for the husband.   Only had the veggies, but soaked up the gravy with a fat wheat roll.   Easily 500 Cals if not considerably more.   My bad.

Weight has stabilized.   Not losing more because I am eating more and not exercising.   Knee still sore and doc appointment not until 12/7.  Hoping he says exercise away, it won't make things any worse. Really want to hit 115 by 12/31/20, but if not, then early 2021.

KOMBUCHA Experiment #1.   Took liberties with the recipes. Poured 16 oz of raw unpasteurized GT in 2 quarts of tea.   Used 3 black bags, 2 geeen and 2 decaffeinated black (latter found lurking in cabinet)

Added 3/4 Cup granulated sugar.  Cooled tea to 85 degrees and poured in GT.   Lots of SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria & Yeast) in bottle.   If it goes forth and mutiples, I'm in business. Put in bird room, warmest in house, 70-74.   The cloth is to keep undesirables out and allow CO2 to escape. Will add flavors and possibly a sweetener later.   The raw GT tasted like crap compared to the peach/ pineapple flavor.now

Got glucose meter to work & disappointed with the result of 107.  John Clement says fasting level ideal at 75-85, under 95 ok.  Only a cup of coffee all day, a little chocolate soy protein mix added.   May have not sufficiently hydrated today which could also raise levels.

Meant to try reading first thing in AM, but broke fast by eating 2 bananas in the middle of the night.   Will try to avoid the same tonight & drink more water.

I was 99 after a 12 hr fast in July.   Expected much better after losing over 15 pds. & a far superior diet.   Of course some margin of error to be expected between the lab and my cheapie ReliOn.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!

Horn_of_plenty on 11/28/2020:
well, it's best you work on at least stabalizing your weight so far to what you weigh now...you cannot live on cabbage and soy beans forever! ;) 500 cals is a good size meal, still very low cal considering a comparison to a typical bigger meal. you are doing good!

i thought that when making the kombucha, it needs refrigeration? or not?

well, maybe the two bananas changed your glucose reading considerably?

let us know if you do continual glucose monitoring and give me all the details on the kombucha, especially after it takes & you give it a try.

Jacky82020 on 11/29/2020:
No refrigeration for kombucha. Ideal temp. Is 80. My bird room is 70-74 this time of the year. Ppl keep it at cooler temps, just takes longer. I am not into it enough to put a small heater in the bathroom to get 80, but i was once obsessed with dying white orchids blue & kept the bathroom hot and humid. Only a few days required. The kombucha will need at least ten days. Wising I’d bought at least 3 bottles of the raw GT so as to run simultaneous tests! But staying faithful to plan to reduce possible covid exposure.

grannyannie on 11/29/2020:
I think my brother drinks kombucha but I doubt he makes it himself.

Jacky82020 on 11/29/2020:
I’m a real DIY girl!

Horn_of_plenty on 11/29/2020:
well, you can do the simultaneous tests still...just buy more! maybe you'll learn a few tips from this test...and you can use those tips when you start up a few simultaneous tests!!! great ideas!

Jacky82020 on 11/29/2020:
Will definitely add at least 3 bottles of the GT raw to next Friday’s pickup list!

Horn_of_plenty on 11/29/2020:
you totally are a real DIY person! i cannot believe how many experiments and projects you do ! constantly!

Jacky82020 on 11/29/2020:
lol. Always liked doing what I can if possible & it can save the big bucks. Plus fun! Make a lot of money in the stock market but am as frugal as always. A family curse! When my dad was sitting on millions of dollars in SF real estate, he was lining up for free government cheese for anyone over 65. He got these big-assed blocks.

Donkey on 11/29/2020:
I'm sorry, what is GT?

I applaud this endeavor! I too am a DIY, especially if it costs a lot to buy the product off the shelves. It's good to have a homemade version, even if used as a "backup" alternative.

I'm sure the bananas affected the glucose reading in the morning. Try again?

Jacky82020 on 11/29/2020:
GT is a brand of kombucha that HOP likes. It costs $3 a bottle. I’ve found recipes that use the bottle as a starter to make more tea, You pour the store bought one into brewed tea & sugar and allow the yeast/bacterial culture to grow in a warm room. If I comes out ok, I will add fruit flavorings. I have several from my successful efforts to crack the diet Snapple peach ice tea. Tastes great!

Horn_of_plenty on 11/29/2020:
lol, the picture you posted for me is too blurry for me to read, but, it's my guess that you are showing me flash cards being sold on ebay! LOL...thanks for checking it out for me ;)

cannot wait to move on with myself, get away from PMP review...!

also, there's more i may share about the credentials, if i pass the test. otherwise, i will prob choose to study more, but then, if only failures, i will make the choice to never think about it again, as far as i can help it! LOL

Jacky82020 on 11/29/2020:
Yes! Flash cards & a cheat sheet from eBay. Posted them for fun. Sure you’re familiar with all the study crap available

bearcountrygg on 11/29/2020:
The best time to do the glucose test is as soon as you get up in the morning before eating or drinking anything......( the bananas are high sugar).....so if it had been 4 hours or less since you ate them...then they did affect the test.

Jacky82020 on 11/29/2020:
That’s what my health and longevity guru says!

Jacky82020 - Friday Nov 27, 2020
(CR & IF & Exercise)
Weight: 117.6

Same old boring dinner: soybeans and cooked slaw.   Annoyed I couldn't get a slot at Walmart pickup today & have to wait until 9AM tomorrow.   Lots of cabbage, garlic & onions.

Couldn't get a glucose reading.   Tried 3X.   Not enough blood twice and on the third failed to correctly insert test strip.   Now know how to do it, but not up to a 4th prick.  Maybe later.  Need to press the lancet device more firmly into the side of my finger to get a decent sample.

My live long and well guru, James Clement, is big on macadamia nuts, as I probably mentioned. Took a second look.   He recommends 4 oz a day.   They average $20/pd.   Or better put $20 is the best price.  Considered ordering until I saw over 800 Cals in that 4 oz!  JFC!  No way for me. Seriously doubt Clement does that daily.  Image below is for  1 oz.

He's also big on monitoring bio markers such as glucose among numerous others.  Bought the Reli system at Walmart.   Had the best reviews.   Seems insurance pays for far more expensive systems, but can limit test strips etc.  Many ppl saying Reli was the best backup.   Took weeks to summon up courage to prick.   Bought the little auto-lancet device.  Painless, but got the most minuscule bead of blood out.  Failed, no reading.  Trouble shooting and will get it to work.   He says early AM (before breakfast) reading of 85-90 is ideal.   Up to 115 after a meal good.   I was 99 at the last lab test in July and am very curious to see if better diet and weight loss since then has improved my glucose level.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 11/27/2020:
That is high calories for nuts!

Cashews, peanuts and almonds are 60 calories per 10g. About 7 almonds = 10g. Good for you but very high calorie.

Jacky82020 on 11/27/2020:
Yes, they are all BIG in calories and a source of healthy fat/protein. Macadamia nuts are the fattiest and most expensive. Guess I’ll be sticking with my peanut butter. 190 Cals in 2 tablespoons. Always liked PB. Didn’t care for the cashew and almond butter. Similar nutritional value to PB

Maria7 on 11/27/2020:
I love nuts, too!

Jacky82020 on 11/27/2020:
Me too! Always have!

keep us VERY updated on what you learn thru glucose monitoring. i have a feeling that when i'm even "older," i may have to monitor that in myself. i tend to get lots of "lows" where i get shaky if i do not have carbs...you ever get that?

also, i find it hard to eat nuts because of their calories, too. However, i got in the good habit of eating them at work, before going home, or mid-morning. it was a healthy habit. just 100 calories or 200 calories worth...

now that i think about it, i could have kept a jar of pb at work, too! i do prefer pb to actual nuts also. :) it's good stuff.

Jacky82020 on 11/27/2020:
Will let you know how glucose monitoring goes tomorrow. Pretty sure I’ll get it right

Donkey on 11/28/2020:
I think blood sugar monitoring is the way to go. Keto uses those urine strips, but those don't tell the whole story. Hope the testing works today :-)

Jacky82020 on 11/28/2020:
I have those keto strips from when I tried keto and it didn’t work so well for me. I didn’t do it correctly and ate too much. Prefer the strips to sticking myself, even though the lancet device with the micro pricker is better than the old way.

Weird how some gifs animate here and others don't Two rice cookers on now making black garlic & waiting for temperature to equilibrate on another crockpot.   Other one got too hot (160).   The black garlic averages $30 a pound & I can buy the fresh for $3/pd. Very faint pleasant aroma in kitchen near the pots. Don't know why some are complaining the stench is so ghastly they use the garage.   Concluding some posters never actually made black garlic.

Added black tea and granulated sugar to pickup order. Only ingredients needed for the kombucha recipe. I have other teas and brown sugar here, no black or granulated.   Not understanding why the recipes for making kombucha from a bottle are multi-stepped .    Say to start with 4 oz of the bottled tea, 8 oz water and some sugar and let ferment for maybe 10 days.   Then add more of the same & ket ferment longer, until one gets up to a gallon.  Don't see why I can't pour the entire bottle into a gallon of tea.   May do just that.   Nothing to lose other than the $3 GT tea.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!

Horn_of_plenty on 11/26/2020:
are you also cooking thanksgiving or ordering food!? with all your cookers taken up!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!! :)

keep ME updated on making your kombucha !!!?

Jacky82020 on 11/26/2020:
No, we aren’t really doing thanksgiving. No one is allowed in the house & we won’t enter others. Will microwave chicken breasts with garlic & bake potatoes. And stir fry the Normandy blend frozen veggies No desserts for me! The husband will pig out on a Boston cream pie he bought.

grannyannie on 11/26/2020:
Happy Thanksgiving Jacky!

Added a bottle of GT kombucha to Walmart list.  No idea if I will like this brew, but already thinking about making my own from this bottle.   I have a nice collection of peach and raspberry flavorings from my adventures in making Snapple.

Dinner, yet more soy beans and cooked slaw.   Liking fried sliced up whole cabbage better and won't be buying the raw slaw anymore.   plan to fry the cabbage with onions.

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!

Horn_of_plenty on 11/25/2020:
let us know what you think!!! i don't prefer this one!! it's healthy, so i hope you like it...

Jacky82020 on 11/25/2020:
Only want it as a starter. Will add my own flavorings

Horn_of_plenty on 11/26/2020:
great idea!!!

Maria7 on 11/26/2020:
We never know what we will like to eat unless we try new things. Yesterday, I tried making a grilled cheese sw with different ingredients...ugh...didn't work out. I had used mayonaise coating the outsides of the sw instead of margerine to cook the sw in, among other ingredients I put inside the cheese sw. Could have been a really good sw had I stuck when the way I usually cook one. SMILE!

Same dinner at 5PM: soy beans and cabbage. Ok, had a few bites of meatloaf.   One of the dogs is quite elderly and has decided he wants only my homemade meatloaf, so I'm making a really huge  one pretty much every other day.   He is a big boy, maybe 125 pds. Can't resist a few bites when it comes out of the microwave.   Difficult as well to avoid snacking on the parrots' pistachios which is their evening treat.   Avoided that today by giving them nuts after I had dinner when I was full, instead of later.

Finished off my small jar of black garlic last nite.   Won't buy more, am determined to make my own,  Ordered the better rice cooker from Amazon, will arrive tomorrow.   Added 3 (1.5 pds) garlic bulbs to my pickup list.   Searched for cheaper bulk sacks of garlic and nothing to be found.   Many sellers wanted up to $15 a pound!  Don't get it!   supposedly easy to grow.

soybbeans and cooked cabbage have become my dinner staple, the first meal of the day which I eat between 4 & 5.   Filling until maybe 9, then  I have 2  hi fiber English muffins with mustard & whatever & the other with nut butter & honey.

HOP, looked at kombucha.  Added a bottle to my pickup list.   This brand had more appealing flavors than GT.   Do you like kombucha because of health benefits or for the flavor?

Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 11/24/2020:
Looks like a nice rice cooker. Mine has only 2 options - cook or warm.

Jacky82020 on 11/24/2020:
Those are the most important ones!

horn_of_plenty on 11/24/2020:
Well at least a few bites of meatloaf / cashews add a very healthy element to your diet !

I sometimes do buy the kombucha you have a photo of above. They add some stevia to that brand. Yes, the flavors are nice - I like the pineapple peach and cherry also ...also a couple others. The greens flavor is surprisingly good / sweet. Yes, this brand tastes good

But beware, there is caffeine in this brand, more than the others, so I usually have to be more careful when drinking it. And not have it in combo with coffee also. Sometimes it makes me jittery. I used to drink it more but bought it the other day when the store didn’t have the brand I prefer that you bought last time....

I like kombucha bc it’s carbonated and filling. I like that it has probiotics. I love that it is low calorie and only drink flavors that appeal to me. I love it most for being low calorie and filling and I can relax and drink it for awhile and it’s satisfying for that long while - it helps me cut calories

Jacky82020 on 11/25/2020:
Thanks for the info, especially the caffeine warning .Didn’t know.

Donkey on 11/25/2020:
Back down to 117! Yay!

I tried a coffee flavored kombucha. Did not care for it. I've heard the fruit flavors are better, but never tried again.

Jacky82020 on 11/25/2020:
I am curious about kombucha.

Read about this really fat guy (400+ pds) who did a 200 cal a day kombucha fast. Wanted to go 30 days, but broke done around day 23 . Lost a huge amount. Takes a really large person to shed pounds like he did. My doc is telling me to limit my weight loss to 2 pds a week. Impossible! Best I can do is 1 a week and not even every week at that.

Horn_of_plenty on 11/25/2020:
yeah, i like fruit flavors best.

i cannot do the strong ginger flavors or root flavors.

Jacky82020 on 11/25/2020:
I’ll have to take a second look, but appeared most Walmart GT’s were ginger flavors. That’s why I went with the other brand. Do love diet ginger ale.

Horn_of_plenty on 11/25/2020:
perhaps, since you like a lot of strong flavors, you'll like the ginger one. i just can't do it...it tastes so strong to me.
