I am as much curious as bothered by the 96 glucose reading and have decided to fix it.   Fussed around with making an appointment for an  A1C test yesterday at Quest and got nothing but crap, so ordered the two tests kit from CVS online. $53.   Out of stock at local store. Walmart had $90 kits that weren't reviewed any better, in fact CVS has good reviews. Amazon wanted the same $52 for the CVS test & said it would not be delivered until mid October. And after all the money I pay them for Prime.   So was pleased CVS had the same price, no added shipping fee, & will get it out in a few days.

The master plan is to take one test immediately & then go on a low carb diet & repeat test in 3 months.   I may be curious enough to compare the test results with a blood draw, that is if they don't give me all the grief I got last night trying to schedule an appointment. Think they are experiencing technical difficulties.  The tech had trouble finding the pee test order. She was going to send me off for the blood draw already completed.  Said she had no drug tox order.   Told her I assumed the PCP's office entered it immediately when they called me Wednesday.   So she looked & looked & finally  found it.   I was getting annoyed as I'd driven to a place much further than the local one. Was also worried the pcp would think I was delaying to clear my system of the 6 bags of heroin I buy downtown & shoot up everyday.

Progress as of today: 21.6 lbs lost so far, only 7.4 lbs to go!

Rainbow! on 09/24/2022:
That sounds like a plan! Is a high protein diet is the same as a low carb diet?

Jacky82020 on 09/25/2022:
I’m not really sure, I’ll look into it, sure sounds like it has to be very similar, huh?

horn_of_plenty on 09/24/2022:
what a horrible experience at the appt yesterday! i once had a UTI and was unable to pee at the dr due to major anxiety. i just was rushing and anxious so much so that i couldn't pee. i think i was bloated too...and the mix of that, gas, and all...i had a REALLY hard time that day!

if your glucose is in a good range, why are you concerned about a1c? if a1c comes back in a good range...maybe you do not have to go low carb.

Jacky82020 on 09/24/2022:
I’m at the upper limit of normal. I prefer the lower limit. Glucose is evil. What’s your annual reading?

The fitness guru I admire most wakes up with 70 everyday. I would love that number. He leans towards a keto diet, but not 100%.

happy-1 on 09/24/2022:
Good self care here!

Jacky82020 on 09/25/2022:
Thanks, Hap, you always offer only the positive! I sure appreciate it!

Jacky82020 on 09/25/2022:
What brand of A1C home test do you use?

Donkey on 09/25/2022:
Oh my goodness, what an ordeal! I'm so sorry. However, I admit I am a little excited to hear more about your A1C experiment adventure.

I can totally understand your desire to be more in the middle to lower range. I think you're good to nip this in the bud.

SomeFineDay on 09/25/2022:
Donkey is right, Nip it in the bud.

Donkey!   Look!  This reminded me of your request for non-egg breakfasts. Feel free to add all the nuts you want!

frustrating exercise day!   forgot to strap on Fitbit.   then kicked over small stand by bike with very first peddle & spilled big mug of unsipped coffee.  what  a mess!     very dark & wet & gloomy outside, but a lovely view from the bike.  Set Fitbit from walking to biking.   no difference I can see & it had only outdoor bike, not stationary.   I don't get it!

Progress as of today: 21.6 lbs lost so far, only 7.4 lbs to go!

happy-1 on 09/19/2022:

Thanks, tanks behind and on opposite wall as well.

horn_of_plenty on 09/19/2022:
very creative pics; love this.

Jacky82020 on 09/19/2022:
Frankie took them! (Little pug/Frenchie mix) very smart pooch! LOL

Donkey on 09/20/2022:
The Garmin I have has 2 separate choices for biking - "indoor" which needs special expensive pedals in order to obtain full stats, and "bike" which uses GPS for stats. I don't bike outdoors enough to care (for lack of a better word), and the indoor biking is mainly just to loosen up. Honestly, I'm not sure I get anything more out of that.

Today, I am trying oatmeal with 1 TBSP of Craisins and 1 TBPS of coconut flakes. I usually add only a TBSP of peanut butter, but I felt like I wanted a change this morning. And as it seems that the peanut butter doesn't hold me well at work, why eat all that fat and high calories?

Jacky82020 on 09/20/2022:
Love craisins. Coconut too! There are probably multiple ways to up the protein in an oatmeal breakfast. Like by adding a vanilla or whatever flavor protein powder.

Hah! I counted the same steps and got 85!   Now I have to check what I entered in Fitbit.   I may have been playing around and said I was ten feet tall.

Just checked my Fitbit steps from bike to kitchen & back.  25   I woulda guessed more, it's a long hallway. Next time I'll count

fascnatng article, hope it opens. WaPo gets fussy.   says doing 30" moderate exercise per day isn't enough if one's inactive the rest of the day.   says it raises glucose levels etc etc etc

Donkey on 09/14/2022:
CNN (website) had a similar post recently as well, how the most important walking workout isn't the exercise walk a person takes but rather the extra steps one accumulates throughout the day.

That's one thing I liked about my FitBit was that it had an hourly reminder to reach 250 steps in that given hour. The Garmin has an activity reminder but not an hourly step goal. So I try to be aware of sitting too long, when I'm at work. It can be hard though, especially when I'm busy.

Jacky82020 on 09/14/2022:
Yeah, there’s nothing much new under the sun. This study added a little by having different groups do different movements. Thinking of hopping my way to the coffee pot and bathroom. LOL

I have that 250 alert too. Maybe I should turn it on.

happy-1 on 09/14/2022:
That’s good motivation to go food shopping today.

Jacky82020 on 09/14/2022:
Lol. Now I’m beginning to wonder if Fitbit is lying about my Walmart steps. It’s a huge store!

horn_of_plenty on 09/15/2022:
re below report of yours; that's why we can rely on gadgets but we also must just generally know where we are at....which obviously you do...this adds to why i do not need to get one of those gadgets...as i know i'm wayyyy under cardio / steps based on what is suggested daily.

horn_of_plenty on 09/15/2022:
yeah, my desk job is KILLER on my body.

Rainbow! on 09/15/2022:
I don’t have a tracker either. It’s amazing how the pedometer lagged and even your Fitbit is off. I’m on my feet most of the time in the classroom, so that’s good. Now if I can only continue to avoid the leftover school cafeteria food that is dumped in the teachers’ lounge. It’s all starchy food, but also apples and oranges.

I shall now present my pedometer report.

It was not what I expected.   The pedometer is picking up less than half the steps as the Fitbit.  Both are on my ankle.   The pedometer was too big for the pouch on an unused activity tracker ankle strap, so I clipped it to the other, making sure to get it under a sock so I wouldn't lose it.  Did some googling.  There are pedometers with apps and every single one I saw had monthly subscription fees ranging from $2-10.

But most interesting of all, I found an article from the federal government on reliability of pedometers and most were worse than mine.  They tested various models and a Fitbit on college kids.   So what's the point of the pedometer if they are so off & why are they so inaccurate?  But I'm not interested enough to pursue this topic.   Should anyone desire this technical marvel, kindly send a hundred dollar bill & a self addressed stamped envelope.

Thus concludes my great pedometer exeperiment.

That 44 G tank is a breeze compared to my really big tanks. I have 11 total, largest ones are 125 Gallons. One develops techniques to make it all less labor intensive. Great exercise!

webmasters, today was the worst day of my life. My husband ran away with two wives. Five more Sister Wives are waiting for them in Colorado City, so he will have 7. A big moving truck came and hauled away all the furniture. So I went to the basement to find a cot. I fell on the way back up and broke my arm. Then my boss called and said I'm fired for embezzling money. The detectives think it was wired to Colorado City, but my boss said I can't return. So I am bawling my eyes out, looking at my fish, Jack. I know you don't like my fish pics, but can you please show some human decency and allow just one more?

Look C&C! It says to add 2 T powder to 1 T  water. I sometimes use the syrup instead of water. If I do cocoa only & no syrup, then I add an artificial sweetener. The powder mixure is kinda weird in that it hardens if you make enough for the next day.

Your unfortunate story made our grandma cry, and so we will allow this one last fish one final time. He/she is beautiful and we sincerely hope you won’t go to prison. Hire a good attorney.

Thank you! Seeing Jack helped me stop crying and shaking so bad.

horn_of_plenty on 08/24/2022:
haha...i'm glad they allowed your fish pic. i love seeing your pics...brings something different to my day...i only look at fish basically when you post; so it brings variation to my days.

I replied to this once & don’t see it now. All I said is I won’t push luck & do another, not at least not until the Holidays LOL

coffee&calories on 08/24/2022:
BEAUTIFUL fish!!!! Wow, that’s a great pic you took. I can barely take a decent dog pic on land. I have the same cocoa powder! Love hersheys. Must get the pb2 soon. I’m totally trying this. Thinking on top of oatmeal, the 100 calorie packs.

Jacky82020 on 08/25/2022:
Thanks, that’s why I liked posting fish pics here. You guys are impressed because you haven’t seen what the pros in the fish forum can do. They spend a lot of time manipulating lighting and use high quality cameras or have expensive cell phones. I’m just using a cheap old iPad.

My husband tried those 100 cal Oatmeal packs for convenience. He didn’t care for them. He said the serving size was scant & the texture mushy, so he uses old fashioned oats, 1/2 C mixed with 1 C water. There’s a 150 cal in the 1/2 C oatmeal but he says it’s more food and tastes better. He puts brown sugar on top, think it’s 15 cal a teaspoon. I stopped buying very expensive artificial brown sugar when I realized the Cals are not bad in the real stuff. It’s not like I’m eating cups of it and have to watch out.

Just  lost post, the final one of July, 2022.  So here we go again.

Meet Oscar Wilde, an 8" Orange Tiger Oscar, I purchased yesterday along with his tank mate, Jack.   Jack is a 6" Jack Dempsey cichlid who's hiding in the plants now.   Oscar is much prettier IRL; I have them in dim lighting, all the better to acclimate them to a new home. I suspect both are females, will know more later after consulting with FB Oscar experts.

Progress as of today: 4.4 lbs lost so far, only 10.6 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 07/31/2022:
Very pretty!

Jacky82020 on 07/31/2022:
Thank you! Someone in FB group agreed she/he is very small for his age & should be 2-4” longer. He lived in a small tank crowded with the world’s ugliest decor. More crap decor than water.

Jacky82020 on 08/01/2022:
Thank you! Some fine day I will learn how to take really good fish pics & dazzle you with Oscar’s beauty.

happy-1 on 07/31/2022:
Lovely!

Donkey on 08/01/2022:
That is a beautiful fish! I'm sure s/he is grateful to have more room to swim and move.

Great fish names too :-) If Oscar turns out to be female, I suppose you could change her name to Olivia Wilde, like the actress (lol)...

Jacky82020 on 08/01/2022:
LOL. Good one!

I was thinking about the great British writer who went to prison for being gay, a long time ago. He had an affair with a wealthy man’s young adult son & the father motivated the trial & imprisonment.

I think I remember Olivia Wilde from House MD.

horn_of_plenty on 08/01/2022:
Loving the name of your fish. Only an avid reader / writer like you would name their fish after a Poet! :)

What made you choose these particular names for the fish?

Jacky82020 on 08/01/2022:
Well, the big fish’s common name is an Oscar. And I am an Oscar Wilde fan.

Common name for other fish is Jack Dempsey, after some famous boxer from when I don’t really know. This fish is well known for his aggressive temperament under certain conditions, mostly re smaller tank mates and crowded tanks.

So as you can clearly see, I have zero creativity when it comes to naming pets. LOL

horn_of_plenty on 08/01/2022:
that is hilarous about the names of both the fish. had no idea there was a "Jack Dempsey" fish or an Oscar fish.

hopefully you'll sneak a photo in for us when you are able to capture Jack.

Is this a FitBit chart? Two of those days look like you were "In Zone" -- which is good, right? And one day "under" (right?)

Jacky82020 on 06/24/2022:
Yeah, it’s from Fitbit. & you got it right, They keep adding all kinds of metrics. All I really like is the step count. And my scale. It never lies.

Donkey on 06/24/2022:
PS Commented on your fish picture from yesterday. Perhaps you will use that post for your monthly marker for June (without comments). So pretty!

Jacky82020 on 06/24/2022:
Thanks, great idea!

horn_of_plenty on 06/26/2022:
those fish below do like very pretty and i have a hard time imagining them as larger fish than the photo below as you gave us the measurements. i am sure they are much prettier in person too. cute as they are below.

I like how the blue fish has orange eyes and fins.

Your calories look good when comparing them to the numbers on the chart at far left, like you haven't done anything too crazy or excessive in your eating, so that is good.. i am sure you can reach your goals.

Jacky82020 on 06/27/2022:
When it comes to dieting, think I’m incapable of too crazy. LOL. Too much food around. Sigh. Lucky for me I hate cooking, so keep it simple

See pic of adult above.

Last post for 5/22.

New fish are spectacular!   The colorful one, ~6", is called an OB peacock.  The spotty guy is a Texas  cichlid, the only breed native to  North America. Some dots are green & blue, iridescent. The one with 2 big spots is a jewel cichlid.  Tex is ~ 6"; Jewel is maybe 4".

This is the 110 Gallon tank  delivered last night.   I am ecstatic! Cost 1/3 of the 90 G tank & stand & lid.  Reflections and sun streaming through skylights made it impossible to photograph very well.

Do It!

1) Rake leaves left & right of driveway & brick work. Trim back ground cover, vinca, & ferns.

2) Continue gathering Goodwill donations. Progress: 1/2 done.

3) Install 2 backup filters, one in sump tank & other in tank.  half done!   Install 2 new filters for the 110 to cycle when they arrive Saturday ASAP.

  4) Continue work on backgrounds for tanks by window. Blue cellophane & silk Ivy.
Update: double cellophane on GloFish tank or replace with blue poster board. Algae!

5). housework. Do all bedding from hallway room. Half done.

6) Continue organizing fish equipment. Very slow progress.

 7) More time in gym! More time on bike.

 9) Test ammonia & nitrate levels everyday in GloFish/Syno catfish tank. Suction up uneaten catfish pellets. Udate: levels good.

10) Continue researching how to breed the GloFish. Actually looking at breeding the fish not genetically modified. Same thing.

11) Crockpot soybeans

 12)  Continue researching Oscar fish. Plan now is to add 2 to the 110 G. Gentle giants, will rapidly grow to 1 foot! Can learn to interact with owners! I will be in fish heaven!

Progress as of today: 9.8 lbs lost so far, only 5.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 04/28/2022:
One of the pictures that you had posted (now removed) looked like fish swimming upside down. But that must be how they normally look, correct? They had whiskers, and were a light brown on the bottom with white on top. But the tops looked more like an underbelly, and the brown looked like it should be on top. Do you know which fish I'm talking about? If yes, what kind are they? Fascinating to look at -- and I bet they are even better to watch in motion!

Jacky82020 on 04/28/2022:
Yes, you’re talking about what is commonly called the upside down catfish, or Synodontis nigriventris. I have 3, an older adult & two juveniles.

But many Synodontis cats, do the same. I tried last night to get a good pic of my favorite fish, Tom, another type of syno who also swims upside down sometimes, mostly when he’s eating flakes off the water surface. Very cute! He looks like a vacuum cleaner sweeping the surface.

Yes! Tom most of all is Poetry in motion. Like a graceful dolphin.

happy-1 on 04/28/2022:
Will you be selling tickets to see all the fish? You’re going pro!

Jacky82020 on 04/28/2022:
Free ticket for you! I have to pull the plug to the sump tank when I feed in this one tank, so it doesn’t filter out the food while the fish are eating. I often forgot. No matter what I did, like using alarms & leaving a lamp on.

Then I recalled your Ranger Beads & began putting a hair tie on my wrist. Works like a charm!

horn_of_plenty on 04/28/2022:
tank is nice and large. i also like the floor design in this room very much.

Jacky82020 on 04/28/2022:
Thanks, that’s the vinyl that was here 11 years ago when we bought the house, probably new. Love it too, really hides the dirt. Dogs always running in from nearby back door.

innerpeace on 04/29/2022:
The joy of having a hobby, I admire that. Your enthusiasm inspires me.

Jacky82020 on 05/02/2022:
You could get a hobby too! Your drawings & photography skills are excellent. So maybe you kinda already have hobbies.

Donkey on 04/29/2022:
That is indeed a great score! Brand new that would be quite expensive.

I wanted to ask you, When you got your new-used gym-quality exercise bike, what did you do with the old one?

Jacky82020 on 05/02/2022:
Sad to say the old bike is still in the seldom used living room. Plan is to give it away free on Craigslist. The old girl has some life in her yet despite intermittent tension problems. Been snowy or rainy every time I think of the ad. Plan is to place in driveway and let someone cart it off. Don’t need strangers in the house checking out a free item.

happy-1 on 04/29/2022:
The ranger beads are also super helpful when it comes to counting sets. I could use a slightly larger one… I’ll put it on my rewards list!

Jacky82020 on 05/02/2022:
I’m so glad they inspired me to plug the sump filter back in when else failed.

I can see how they’d help with sets. Easy to lose track of.

bearcountrygg on 04/29/2022:
Looks like you got another nice aquarium there....and plenty of storage there too.

Jacky82020 on 05/02/2022:
Thanks, it’s coming along. Cleaned some and touched up the paint.
