(CR & IF & Keto & Cardio & Weight Training)
Weight: 110.6

Dropped my goal weight to an unrealistic number because it makes the graph look better.

Think I'm giving up on keto, not today, but soon.  All I eat are nuts & keto bread with cheese or PB, some stir fried vegetables.   All good, but getting old.   The Switch author does keto, CR & IF to induce autophaegy, the cellular repair that reduces disease risk.   I just can't do all three.   CR & some IF work best for me.   I bet this guy has a chef that prepares fancy keto dishes for him. I do see good recipes, but too much work.   Never liked cooking, never will.

Progress as of today: 23.4 lbs lost so far, only 5.6 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 10/21/2021:
Honestly....for myself...I have to listen to cravings ( not the I want a candy bar kind though)...but the I want some specific meat or vegetable or dairy kind...because that always seems to have something that my body is asking for....especially if the craving lasts for a few days without being listened to........More than ever in my life I am noticing that eating sweets are just not making me feel good....and I have been eating a lot of them in the last month....we both got out of control with those.....at first my weight stayed the same...then it shot up and my pants got tight all of a sudden.....now I have to put some work back into this again seriously......it's ok....I have been off track and throwing caution to the wind but time to get serious here....and get back to intuitive eating for me...that works along with WW...or calorie counting so well......so today...I will put the wrong choices out of sight......( not throw them away)....and put some better effort into this again.

Jacky82020 on 10/21/2021:
I am getting so sick of all those Keto Bomb candy bar things! They are good, but enough is enough.

I don’t see any problems with letting one’s weight drift up occasionally & then cutting back. It’s the no stopping upward ticks that are unacceptable. Very unhealthy.

Jacky82020 on 10/21/2021:
My don’t get tight. I just buy bigger ones. Lol

bearcountrygg on 10/21/2021:
The Halloween candy and pumpkin flavored things and the donuts were too tempting this year........Needing to clean up my act here now!!!!

Jacky82020 on 10/21/2021:
LOL., never buy Halloween candy until after Halloween, cheep cheep cheep

Donkey on 10/21/2021:
Your picture yesterday was so pretty. I would want to sit on my bike all day, if it was placed next to the window, plants, and fish.

I dunno about the keto situation. I've done keto and now I'm not. I guess my advice would be to think it through, about how you're going to "come off" of keto. Having a plan is key.

Aww, I was looking forward to adventures in keto bread-land. LOL, oh well, that's OK. Like I said, I've been there, and now I'm not, so I get it.

Jacky82020 on 10/21/2021:
You do keto? How many daily carbs? Did you ever get a positive keto pee test? I never did.

Will have to make that bread! Invested $40 in the bread machine & $10 in almond flour.

horn_of_plenty on 10/21/2021:
lol i get you on the weight chart. i also get peeved when things don't "look right" lol.

Jacky82020 on 10/21/2021:
Yeah, I don’t go for the flatlined look. lol

horn_of_plenty on 10/21/2021:
honestly, one of the best things i learned for myself is to take what i've learned from trying so many ways of eating...and create my own way which is a combo of everything that works for me. all or nothing will never work in the long run. what works forever is something that you don't feel deprived much or unsatisfied much....and something that you actually start to enjoy and look forward to. weight will always fluctuate but as you have done so well, it's up to us to catch it before it spirals too high (or low). you have done quite well here as you did fluctuate but hardly. always within 5 lbs range. quite nice after losing around 10-15 lbs.

horn_of_plenty on 10/21/2021:
as time continues to go by, it will become easier and easier. over the years, i have gotten better and better at maintaining...learned from all the craziness of my past...and also use a lot of things to help me - stevia sweetened seltzers, fruit, lots of veggies, packaged snacks i like...and sometimes eating sweets more like a meal..dried jackfruit, unsweetened, when i have it in the house, drinking after having sweets so i can continue to ingest but no more calories, having my carbs at the end of the meal more so i'm satisfied and fulller when i start to eat the carb part, adding seasonings to veggies makes them a lot tastier than just bland, low cal spiked drinks/low cal beer, small wraps with just cheese as the carb/protein portion of food...and no need to have big portions of meat. having a slice of cheese or meat in lieu or meat. having a yogurt (greek) after veggies as a dessert but in lieu of a meat or cheese with the meal....i can go on, i'm forgetting things. i have a lot of tricks. oh, and living alone, my dinners are not usually the same as what a family would eat. oh, the low cal ice creams served me well. very low cal, can easily eat half pint after a meal and save tons of calories still and feel full....nicks is the new ice cream out there....

Jacky82020 on 10/21/2021:
Think my best quality in all this is I am no foodie and can eat pretty much the same simple things. For the most part anyways. Never got into ecstasy over tastes & textures etc.

Just realized tuna sandwich would be very keto friendly.

PlayingQuietly on 10/21/2021:
well if you decide on putting keto in the rearview mirror I'm sure you'll find a style of eating that will suit you~ especially when it comes to food prep... I don't like making work out of fixing myself a meal

Jacky82020 on 10/21/2021:
Oh, I’ve been doing CR and IF for a while. All the keto fat is upsetting my stomach and making me poop too much.

Maria7 on 10/21/2021:
Hope you are having a nice day.

Jacky82020 on 10/21/2021:
You too, my friend! Are you pretty much over covid now? Hearing it can last days or weeks or months with varying severity

Maria7 on 10/21/2021:
Yes, for the most part, we are both over covid. However, we still have days that we are extra tired, etc. My appetite is back in FULL! Smile! I can now taste everything again for what it was like pre-covid tasting. Happy about that. Yes, we first got covid about 3 months ago, so it has taken us some time to get to where we are now. Thanks for asking. Hope you are doing well.

Jacky82020 on 10/21/2021:
Glad you’re both pretty much on the mend! Are you getting the booster or was that the booster? I heard on the news they might drop the booster age from 65 to 40, so more people can get it. Now, it’s 65 or older or underlying condition.

They consider obesity an underlying condition, but I’m not sure if they go by BMI on what. Obesity is the greatest risk factor for under 60. It’s probably why my cousin died last year. Very sad. Happened so suddenly.

Here's a pic of the pothos vines covering the windows behind the fish tanks.   They hung longer, but I cut them back when I got the tanks.   There's some pottted anthurium above one tank.   I am working on  getting  more plants for the tanks.

Progress as of today: 23.4 lbs lost so far, only 1.6 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 10/20/2021:
Tanks looking good and the plants are beautiful.

Jacky82020 on 10/20/2021:
Thanks. I like watching the fish while I ride the bike

 Here's my philodendrons!

Added fake sugar to my nuts & it's good!   Trying to do <25 gms carb.   Not easy.

Here's a great unsolved mystery.   Bought the cheapest Fitbit I could find, the Ace 2.   on sale for half price at Amazon, $39.   Lost it the first day!   Usually take it off & place next to the bed, hate sleeping with it.   Looked everywhere & gave up.   On my hands & knees hours crawling ad with a flashlight on the floor.   Very annoying & strange.

Still struggling with the keto flu, better on some days & worse on others, like today.

Haven't tried the eBay bread maker  yet.  Bought almond flour.   Think I can do it cheaper and even lower carb than the Aldi bread, but really like Aldi & have several loaves in the freezer.   The bread maker was sold as used, but it's brand new.   Love the color.   Think I lucked out on this one.   The only red one & $40.   Most online cost at least twice as much & were white or that nickel color.

Progress as of today: 23.4 lbs lost so far, only 1.6 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 10/19/2021:
That's a pretty addition to your colorful kitchen....mine is boring white....but it works.....so I will keep it but I loved the colorful ones too. The great thing about the bread machine is that all winter when the roads are bad...it keeps me from making grocery store runs in bad weather......and while I have never used mine for anything other than bread apparently there are other things we can do with them.

Jacky82020 on 10/19/2021:
All my other ones were white. Wish I’d kept the double loaf one, but hadn’t used it in a while & gave it away when we moved. Big heavy thing!

Yeah, I’ve heard you can make cakes etc. Never tried it.

Not sure where this new one was made. The bad English is the manual is hysterical. Begins with: Quick Ideals for make bread. LOL. And it’s Frigidaire, old brand.

bearcountrygg on 10/19/2021:
Mine is quite heavy...I know what you mean......I think possibly this winter I will try some different things with it....The manuals are funny....mine is too.....the US needs to start producing things...I buy US made things when I can but we really do not produce much at all any more ...and that seriously needs to change...My air fryer manual gives me asome directions on asian foods and I KNOW for a fact I will NOT be making LOTUS ROOT IN IT!!!!

Jacky82020 on 10/19/2021:
LOL I never understood why the Asians can’t hire better English speaking tech writers.

Donkey on 10/19/2021:
I would be interested to read about your adventures into keto bread-making!!!!!

Jacky82020 on 10/19/2021:
I’ll keep you posted. Think it calls for nut flours & eggs.

bearcountrygg on 10/19/2021:
Did a dog take off with the fitbit? Do they have any interesting hiding places? A dog bed?

Jacky82020 on 10/19/2021:
That is a definite possibility, actually the only one that makes sense. Their bed is my bed. My recollection is I wrapped the Velcro ankle strap around a lamp next to the bed. Seems Frankie would have knocked over the lamp if he took it, Also we catch him chewing stuff he takes & we have to open the door to let him in the yard.

Still, nothing else makes sense, Someday I’ll find it all wet & rotten in the yard.

Maria7 on 10/19/2021:
Hope you feel better. Take good care of yourself.

Jacky82020 on 10/19/2021:
Thanks, Maria!

PlayingQuietly on 10/19/2021:
that's terrific!!! love the plant

Jacky82020 on 10/19/2021:
Thanks! I like them big & wild.

horn_of_plenty on 10/19/2021:
Great idea to sweeten your nuts ! You can also do them hot! Or garlic etc !!!! Cocoa powder too!

Great idea to make your own bread it will have less preservatives

Jacky82020 on 10/19/2021:
Thanks! Great ideas! They are roasted & lightly salted, but getting old from 2-3 servings a day. Can’t wait to try your suggestions

horn_of_plenty on 10/20/2021:
i love how your plants look like they are outside, because they are growing so tall and not all level or perfect ;) they are perfectly imperfect!

bearcountrygg on 10/20/2021:
Looks like your plants are heading for a sky light...

I have the Keto Flu!   that's what James Clement calls it.

A great morning so far!  NOT.  Woke up to heavy rain around 5 and room stank horribly.  Rocky, the Frenchie, took a huge dump next to the bed.   Could have been worse. I didn't step in it. Fortunately an easy one to pick up, no poop residue on the floor.

Felt terribly nauseated & figured it had to do with the new keto diet.   Nothing but nuts, keto bread from Aldi, & PB.  And a little sugar free jam.   Toasting PB/J sandwiches in the air fryer. Yummy!
Went to Oillies with the 15% off coupon they emailed & stocked up on the mixed nuts they have on sale.   Came to $4.25 for 20 oz, terrific buy.   Lightly salted, 90 gm per serving & the expiration date is over a year off as I recall.   Never paid much attention to exp. dates anyway except on perishable items.   Think all it means in this case is the nuts may not taste as fresh after a year, but they'll be long gone by then.  Bought 8 cans.

Anyways reading keto can cause some initial unpleasant symptoms from the 3 library ebooks.   This is the first day in ages that I didn't hop on the bike first thing. Sipping my coffee in bed with Rocky and Frankie.  Hoping I can exercise later & if not, no big deal.

Progress as of today: 23.4 lbs lost so far, only 1.6 lbs to go!

Donkey on 10/16/2021:
When I did keto, all I can remember is that about 3-5 days into it, I had a day where my energy was limitless - I just felt so energized. I read that this is common to keto. So, hang in there?

At any rate, I hope that you feel better soon. If you really think it's the keto, make sure you're drinking plenty of water. If it helps any, I have cramps today, so at least we can be a little miserable together.

Jacky82020 on 10/16/2021:
I do hear about ppl feeling energized from keto & CR & IF. Never got to Nirvana. Or even close. Not quitting! If I can lose a pound a week for 6 months I can do this!

Yes, reading lots of water important too.

bearcountrygg on 10/16/2021:
One thing about perishables...they do get dangerous quickly and it's pretty clear when they have gone bad.......sealed things or canned lst well...and if they go rancid you will know it.....rancid oils smell so bad and taste so bad you won't want to eat them...I'm sure they will be fine.....and the brazil nuts will last a long time in the freezer too. I have never been able to do keto....I wish I could...but I would have to remove every single carb from the house and with D...that would never happen.......now if I lived alone it would be a possibility....

Jacky82020 on 10/16/2021:
Yep, never kept perishables too long. & find anything freezes will. A few things like grapes get mushy. Matt suggested chopping some Brazil nuts in half & adding them to the mixed nuts. Good idea, now that there’s room in the container I’m working on.

Horn_of_plenty on 10/16/2021:
Good choice below on the lightly salted and roasted nuts. i prefer roasted to, to raw (not enough flavor - especially for almonds).

very interesting info re your entry below and autophagy, etc.

why'd he dump next to the bed? is he ok?

omg, i hadn't thought of toasting a pb&J.

i would recommend some veggies with your keto. they are really more healthy than not!

maybe some roasted squash in the air fryer (i recommend either acorn squash or even pumpkin or delicata as the best ones to roast in the air fryer. a little olive oil for health and taste, salt (or no salt), garlic, pepper...you will see...better than anything!

Jacky82020 on 10/16/2021:
Let’s just say it’s not the first time that little Frenchie woke up early & took a dump. At least he has the decency to hop off the bed. LOL. This one just stank horribly. Think I overdid it yesterday on his homemade wet food. Crockpot ground Turkey, brown rice and peas & carrots.

The air fryer veggies came out soggy. Sticking with the electric frying pan on that. Still use the Normandy Blend, frozen: carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini & a yellow squash. Never could get into chopping vegetables.

Donkey on 10/16/2021:
Oh yes the keto flu!!! Male Co-Worker had this pretty bad when he did keto. His lasted almost a week. I can't recall if I had it. I don't think so, because I think I would have remembered it. But I truly do remember that "super day" where I had amazing energy. Unfortunately, it lasted only 1 day and I have not been able to recapture that since, during keto or otherwise.

Jacky82020 on 10/16/2021:
I never got that far on keto last time. Never got a keto color on the pee strip. Tested last night & not in ketosis, super low carb is really hard. Last time I kept bingeing on coconut keto candy bags, tasted like Mounds or Almond Joy. Gained weight & went back to high protein

horn_of_plenty on 10/16/2021:
I used to be in many keto Facebook groups and have heard of the keto flu ! Hopefully you do feel better soon ! Just remember that veggies have a lot of nutrition :) if you get sick of Normandy, I know there’s many diff varieties of veg in the frozen section :)

Jacky82020 on 10/16/2021:
Normandy has 5 vegetables. May get back to slicing & stir frying cabbage & microwaving omelette with spinach & cheese. Need to see what veggies are lowest carb.

Man, it’s like impossible to do <25! No more frozen bananas for me for a while.

SOMETIMES I HATE MY CAT!

Today I'm going to Ollie's with a 15% off coupon & stocking up on roasted lightly salted nuts.   I really like the assortment I got last week.  $4.99 - 15% off, so $4.25 for 20 oz.  Mostly peanuts, but some almonds, cashews & macadamia nuts.   I looked again at the nut chart.   Macadamias do have the most fat & the lowest protein.   The Switch author is big on high fat diets & low protein.  He recommends protein cycling which is something like 25 gms for a few days & 50 for others.   He makes a convincing case for the negative effects of certain amino acids in protein, especially animal sources.

The book describes the lifestyle, mostly diet, that enables Blue Zone people to live long disease free lives.  He really gets into the cellular biochemistry.  & nicely summarizes decades of research.   It all gets down to inducing autuphaegy, the process by which cells expell misfolded proteins  & other bad/aging components that can foster disease.  Autophaegy can be induced by CR, IF & Keto.   The latter two must be done correctly, meaning not to overeat.   He uses a combination of all three. I'm trying, but the IF is difficult.   He recommends going autophaegy 8 months of the year only.   this can be done with 2 months on & one on.  My way!

Progress as of today: 23.8 lbs lost so far, only 1.2 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 10/15/2021:
I love Ollies......I used to shop in 2 of them...but none where we live now....I love a good discount store.......we do have a Big Lots about an hour away....but haven't been there yet. At 110....I can't imagine you have much fat on your body.

Jacky82020 on 10/15/2021:
Love Ollie’s too. Point is fat is s better energy source if one is not consuming & storing carbs in the liver etc. Has something to do with continuous insulin spikes that aren’t healthy.

bearcountrygg on 10/15/2021:
I love Big Lots for the same reason...When I was taking care of my parents for over 7 years......I had an apartment that was only a block away from a Big Lots.....now that was dangerous!!!...I spent way too much time in that store.

Jacky82020 on 10/15/2021:
That’s a good one too! But they never mailed me discount coupons like Ollie’s.

Donkey on 10/15/2021:
I'm not familiar with Ollies - it must be a regional store? I do know Big Lots, so if it's similar, then I get it.

I was aware that macadamia nuts have a higher fat content (and lower protein) than other nuts. But they are so yummy. It's a good idea to rotate nuts, though.

Out of the 3, CR,IF, and keto, which do you find to be the easiest? What does he do the 2 months that he's not doing autophaegy? I ask, because I am genuinely curious -- I'm picturing keto folks going off the deep end with carbs on those 2 "off months". I don't think that's part of the author's recommendation???

I had to stop following the keto FB group I'm in because the photos were just too enticing. Oh my...

Jacky82020 on 10/15/2021:
Not sure how regional Ollie’s is. I live in Pennsylvania. Think Bear is in Michigan. My friend in NY has them. Never heard of any out west. They get stuff when places go out of business, at least some items. But I checked the huts & they won’t expire for another year.

He eases up or quits the CR off season, says you can’t break down cells 24/7, they also need rebuilding times.

Yeah, I got a few keto ebooks from the library. Scrumptious! Too much work for me. Will stick with nuts & PB on low carb bread. Maybe avocado toast,

Maria7 on 10/15/2021:
I like nuts, too...all kinds...currently I have salt-free cashews but I have others, too. Hope you have a blessed day.

Jacky82020 on 10/15/2021:
Those sounds great! I want a big bag! Will check Amazon!

Shirt I got for Matf last year.  LOL   My Frankie is 1/2 pug but looks like this Frank.

Compared peanut butter analysis to peanuts & very similar. Don't have much left, so have it on the Walmart pickup list.  Toasted the Aldi keto bread with PB & it was great.

Amazon has either changed their shipping  policy or it applies only to stuff they stock.   They said the Brazil nuts are not eligible for return when I tried them after getting an email from the company saying they will issue a refund, no free shipping label, if I return them.   I'm guessing the postage would be $7-10, so I put them in the freezer.   An ounce a day is ok.   I was doing two until Bear informed these nuts can be evil. Amazing they have that super high selenium level.   Something to do with very high levels in the soil where they grow.

Progress as of today: 23 lbs lost so far, only 2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 10/12/2021:
That's exactly what I would do. It's not like they will go to waste. You tried to return them, and it didn't work out. OK, at least you still have them, and you will use them. They should last you a long time, and they will keep in the freezer. It's a win in my book.

The scale likes what you are doing!

Jacky82020 on 10/12/2021:
Thanks, Donkey! You are always so kind & supportive.

I’m back on the CR & IF diet I began with. The Switch author loves nuts, but it was macadamia & I misremembered. Feel like a dunce, but oh, well. No real harm done.

I seriously think all the nuts, including peanuts are comparable in terms of nutrition. I am going to compare peanut butter to peanuts. I’m thinking PB on the toasted keto bread would be yummy.

horn_of_plenty on 10/12/2021:
Will view your nut chart tonight...thank you! :)

your nuts sound good. def good idea to keep them as fresh as possible. an ounce is prob better than 2 oz.

Jacky82020 on 10/12/2021:
Yep. I have found that most everything freezes well. Finally bought an upright freezer & don’t see how I lived so long without it. Always a major hassle rearranging things in the refrigerator one.

PlayingQuietly on 10/12/2021:
by freezing them like you have you won't be under pressure to hurry up and eat them faster than you'd like

Jacky82020 on 10/12/2021:
Absolutely!

bearcountrygg on 10/12/2021:
They really are full of nutrition and have the potassium that you want anyway....They are good for you...just in moderation.

Jacky82020 on 10/12/2021:
They will all be eaten, but it will take months,

Maria7 on 10/13/2021:
Cute shirt! Hope you have a blessed day!

that shirt is cute. if you love your pets, this is one way to show it, haha!

Cute Pic......and no mail delivery today!

Jacky82020 on 10/11/2021:
That’s right! Sad! But good old Amazon delivers.

The Brazil nut company said they can’t cancel, it’s too late, but the delivery is due today & to refuse shipment, That one always cracks me up! It’s not like they knock on the door. They dump it by the garage & run.

So think I can go thru Amazon & get a free return label.

Donkey on 10/11/2021:
LOVE IT!!! I love the picture :-)

Jacky82020 on 10/11/2021:
Thanks! Think I told you I’m part Native American. Not many of us are full blood anymore. I do have a Federal BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) and a card from my tribe. the latter is accepted as a passport/official ID for some countries. Never used it, don’t like traveling.

bearcountrygg on 10/11/2021:
Yup...return them or freeze them and eat 1 a day...since they are a good source of potaassium and a lot of other nutrients.....but 3 pounds is a lot...i asked D why he was eating them and he said arthritis pain...and said that he had been eating 8 to 10 a day......and this did go on for several months...when we heard of the danger...he threw them away......but...I'm sure 3 pounds of them were pricy so it may just be better to return them and forget about it.

Jacky82020 on 10/11/2021:
That is about how many I ate, maybe more for 2 days, will do one oz every now & then if I can’t return them. I am able to freeze everything & have a nice freezer.

Horn_of_plenty on 10/11/2021:
Today is YOUR day! Happy day to you too! very cute pic indeed!!!! post some pet pics when you get a chance!

Jacky82020 on 10/11/2021:
Thanks, hOP. Will do

i gotta say, he prob makes a big deal about macadamias because they're his preference. he has to choose, he's the author....! my opinion, lol!!

Jacky82020 on 10/11/2021:
I agree with you 100%! See my nut chart

THANKS!  GREAT BUY ON KETO BREAD AT ALDI.

love Day of the Dead stuff & bought s planter with a succulent.   Saw a funny thing there.   A Squat Stool.   Had no idea what it was, small plastic thing.   Matt said it's for ppl who prefer to squat rather than sit when they poop.   Heard of that, didn't know they had stools to motivate their stools.

My Weird Breakfast.   Really getting into the disease reduction/longevity diet.  They love Brazil nuts. Recall this from first time I read The Switch.  Author eats over a cup a day.   That's 1000 calories.   Had  1/4 Cup, 200 cal.  22 gms fat, 4 carbs, most most fiber, 5 gms protein.   Rich in iron, potassium, calcium & magnesium.   Normally I get a BK rodeo burger & onion rings when we go out.   So vast improvement!

Progress as of today: 22.4 lbs lost so far, only 2.6 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 10/10/2021:
Careful with brazil nuts.....D had wanted me to get some years ago and I did...he was eating several a day until we found out they contain selenium which is good in moderation...1 or 2 a day...but they are toxic in larger amounts.....please google that and see what they say...I know they cause selenosis.....and can do some real damage when more than 2 a day are eaten.....don't want Jacky getting sick!!

bearcountrygg on 10/10/2021:
They do contain a lot of vitamins it is true.....but please be careful.

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
Be careful with Brazil nuts? Have you heard bad things about them. Ordered 3 pds on Amazon. Cheaper than the raw 8 oz bags at Walmart. These are salted & roasted, so I’ll have to watch the sodium.

bearcountrygg on 10/10/2021:
D stopped eating them...they can be dangerous if more than 2 a day are eaten......there is no treatment for the damage they can d other than to stop eating them......google it...some nasty side effects.

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
I certainly will, BUT James Clement, author of The Switch, is a genius on nutrition. He works with leading medical researchers at the most elite institutions.

Much misinformation online. So much that a person can believe whatever they want & find justification.

I don’t believe a lot of what I google, unless it’s coming from Harvard, or Yale or Mayo or Stanford etc. Even there one has to be careful. Some quack professors publishing crap.

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
OMG! You’re absolutely correct! More than 400 micrograms can be bad. I will cut my 2 oz a day too one.

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
BEAR! You may have saved my life, or at least my hair & nails to start with. Will have to reread the chapter in that book on Brazil nuts. Can’t imagine Clement passing out unhealthy info. Be funny if he said another nut & I got it all wrong.

Trying to cancel my Amazon order for 3 pds. Not sure if it can be done. Will wait & see. If not, I will gift some of those mean moderators in the fish forum with nice Xmas stockings of Brazil nuts. LOL

Maria7 on 10/10/2021:
Don't have a 'squat stool' but have Home Depot buckets if ever needed. Smile.

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
LOL! Good to know! I have 5 Lowe’s buckets purchased for transporting my aquarium fishies

PlayingQuietly on 10/10/2021:
I got a tea rose last year and it barely survived winter indoors, this spring I planted out front and !!! pink roses everywhere !!! and still blooming! I have a Christmas Cactus indoors that is thriving (over a year old so far) and started an English Ivy (five leaves and counting) Good luck with your new plant

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
Had many succulents outside in California. Seems like the outdoor plants that thrived there fare poorly indoors here. Really wanted the planter, not the plant.

I had a terrific Xmas cactus that I left on the deck to soak up some rays & the squirrels devoured it! Not caught in the act, but many here & read they love that plant. Also have a supposedly 80 yr old one from an estate sale. Fortunately too big & heavy to haul outside

bearcountrygg on 10/10/2021:
If you can't cancel your order I think you can just keep them in the freezer and just eat 1 a day....I'm glad you mentioned those brazil nuts.....They do have plenty of potassium and selenium is good for thyroid....they are very nutritious but 1 or 2 a day. I'm interested in hearing what the book says as well. I think you are talking about squatty potties....apparently our toilets are not actually as healthy but then again a hole in the floor would probably not be too healthy either if a person fell in it...LOL....

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
I’m reading an ounce a day is okay. Will count the nuts out. Maybe 6-8. Not sure. How many did your husband eat? It’s the selenium that can be damaging.

bearcountrygg on 10/10/2021:
I'm not sure how many he ate because those were the days when I was taking care of my Mom and he was here,,,,4 hours away......he couldn't buy them here so I was getting them in the larger stores and giving them to him several bags at a time...( we got together every 2 weeks for a couple of days)....I know when we found out about the danger he threw what was left away....( I wish I could remember why he was eating them).........just be careful....and keep an eye out for symptoms.

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
I was so wrong about James Clement’s wonder nut! It’s macadamia nuts. I am rereading the book & didn’t get to that chapter until just a few minutes ago when I looked.

Was in Walmart the other day & saw 8 oz bags of Brazil nuts for $6. Was thinking, not bad, as I had the false memory that was the good nut & it’s very costly. Forget what, but remember getting some real sticker shock. Gonna look at macadamia nut prices now.

bearcountrygg on 10/10/2021:
WHOA.....Good thing this came up! Macadamia nuts are so good....The brazil nuts have plenty of potassium.....hope you can cancel the order though.

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
Haven’t heard yet, so not optimistic. Will freeze as you suggested.

Checked prices on Mac nuts, not as pricey as I remember from a year ago. But Not cheap. $16-20 per pound. Less at some bulk places, more like $12-15. But would require 10-25 pds, if not more. Not sure I’m up to hundreds of dollars of Mac nuts in the freezer, particularly after my Brazil nut fiasco. LOL

Macs have similar nutritional value, no selenium. Gonna have to compare macs to walnuts, cashews, etc.

Horn_of_plenty on 10/10/2021:
sometimes, i take the metal garbage, small one, in the bathroom, and put my feet up on it when i feel i need a little extra help pooping. i also, unfortunately, sometimes turn on the faucet because my bathroom shares a wall with the apt next door...and sometimes i put the water on for privacy. i'm glad i have something to out my feet on, rather than buy a squatting device!

your day of the dead succulent skull is adorable :)

nice job on a 1/4 cup nuts, they are certainly very good for you. i recommended to a coworker to have 5 almonds after his snacks. his snacks are carby, but small servings. i am trying to help him make better choices. i think he is losing some weight, but slowly. he has a lot of priorities, he's 46 and a father to younger kids in middle school; he has to wake up early and gets home late with a longer commute than me...so there's a lot going against him in weightloss, but he is trying :)

your keto bread lookss good too. it's nice to have some low cal/keto foods to help fill you up for less...(for me, it means i'm making room for some goodies later!)

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
Maybe I should try the squatter stool etc instead og sit thin there like I’m giving birth. LOL

Yep, nuts are healthy. I need to compare the inexpensive ones to those macadamias that cost the most.

Horn_of_plenty on 10/10/2021:
the good thing about nuts is that they are pretty equal in 1/4 cup serving. all of them very similar calories. so you can switch them up.

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
Yep, sounds that way. Wonder why that guy makes such a big deal outta the macadamias

OUR BEAR IS BACK IN TOWN!

Does anyone know of a good low carb bread?   I'm seeing $15 a loaf online.   think 5 gms.  My 40 cal diet bread has 20 gms.   May wind up baking my own! This guy I'm reading is doing a great job breaking down the evils of too many carbs and protein.  He and others extolling the immense health benefits of 75% daily calories from healthy fat & only 25% from protein & carbs.   Found some cool keto cookbooks on line and one that explains why it has great health benefits.

Scored big in the Walmart clearance aisle yesterday on Keto Fat Bombs.  $10 reduced to 5.   Bought 6 boxes, all chocolate peppermint.  70 Cals each, small, about 1.5 inch square.   Like candy bars incredibly good!   Went back & bought them ALL.  20 more boxes.   Most the choc/mint but 6 white chocolate pumpkin spices.   Excellent!   all I can taste is the chocolate.   Meant to eat 4 a day, but did 7.

Inspired by The Switch book.   He likes some keto.   More on this book & autophagy later.

Progress as of today: 22.4 lbs lost so far, only 2.6 lbs to go!

Donkey on 10/09/2021:
That is a SCORE!!!!

I would be very interested in your take on the autophagy section of your book. I know there is a LOT that we can do to reduce the (appearance of?) excess skin relating to skin loss.

I would be interested to know if it's something that is done as part of weight loss, or if it can be done afterwards.

Jacky82020 on 10/09/2021:
I don’t recall him mentioning skin from the first time I read the book, but I forgot lots. Will let you know!

Horn_of_plenty on 10/09/2021:
just wanted to say i'm going to look those up and they do look good, next i want to say i will comment further later!

Jacky82020 on 10/09/2021:
Just like eating candy, but mostly all fat & only 1 gm carb. Must contain fake sugar, I haven’t bothered looking at that. Some fiber, which is always good.

PlayingQuietly on 10/09/2021:
I'm not familiar with fat bombs. Congratz on 22.4 lbs down with only 2.6 # to go. Since the pandemic interfered with in-person shopping at the second hand bookstore I went online for free novels instead. It's been a joy reading most mornings with my mason jarful of black coffee. I'm reading The Children by Ann Leary (www.readanybook.com) this morning.

Jacky82020 on 10/09/2021:
They are a Keto diet thing. Heavy in fat. Some make the mistake of overdoing this hi fat diet & don’t lose.

I am an avid reader too, but nonfiction only. Get many as ebooks from the Brooklyn Library. Cards available to out of staters for $50/yr. Get on the wait list as soon as I hear of an interesting title. Going through Peril now.

Jacky82020 on 10/09/2021:
Oh yeah, and I’m on my recumbent bike for hours everyday, so read on the iPad.

horn_of_plenty on 10/09/2021:
Yes I like those candies that omit the sugar like that - just like the Reece’s I bought. I will usually then add in sugar with something else lol like today I had a banana with them….

Jacky82020 on 10/09/2021:
They’re using one I can never spell, erthyritol or something like that. Sounds like a drug for low red blood cells. LOL.

bearcountrygg on 10/09/2021:
Looks like you made a really good purchase......Erythritol is what D's dr tole hime to eat instead of sugar.

Jacky82020 on 10/09/2021:
Yeah, I was just reading it’s a healthy sugar substitute

bearcountrygg on 10/09/2021:
LOL...OH MY GOODNESS !!!!!!

happy-1 on 10/09/2021:
Is there an Aldi's near you? Their low carb bread is under $4.

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
Yep, I’ll def stop in, thanks.

Seriously considering making my own bread.

Donkey on 10/10/2021:
Aldi has the BEST keto low carb bread EVER.

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
Will go today! Going to Ollie’s. They sent a 15% off coupon & I’m on the hunt for more keto

Rarely shop at Aldi. Last 2 times they advertised something cheap & it was all gone! Not that cheap, but a better buy than Walmart

All is good.   Matt gets off at 10 on Fridays.   Works longer hours during week to make 40, the entire company does it.   But alas, he's a salaried employee & puts in many a weekend hour.  Delayed usual 10-11 Walmart pickup to 11-12, want to get to Petsmart early.  Finding the big box pet shops are  jerks on pricing.  Needed 300W tank heater. Saw Amazon & Petco had same one for $28.   Went to Petco & it was on the shelf for $50!    Made the purple haired kid there look it up on her cell.   Got it for $28, if not they could have sat on that big foot long heater.

Got email from Petsmart re a water test kit, measures ammonia etc.  Deal was buy one at good price of $25 & get second for half price.   Ordered it online, only to see big shipping fee.   Called & asked if available at store.   She said $39 which is outrageous. $25 at Amazon & Petco.   So went back & did curbside pickup.   Got 2 for $39, what they wanted for one.

Very odd to me!   Never saw this kind of pricing before.  Buyer Beware!

Progress as of today: 22.4 lbs lost so far, only 2.6 lbs to go!

PlayingQuietly on 10/08/2021:
Thank you for welcoming me. Sounds like your shopping day was chaotic price-wise buyer beware for sure

Jacky82020 on 10/08/2021:
Nice to have you here!

Shopping day ok in the end. I won! LOL. But very odd how they had different prices.

Donkey on 10/09/2021:
I think you just have to be careful with prices. I would call it "due diligence". You did well with your purchases!

Jacky82020 on 10/09/2021:
Due diligence is right on! The dastardly crooks!

horn_of_plenty on 10/09/2021:
Interesting that diabetes 2 is as much as 80% obesity - there are skinny people that eat too much sugar or bad diets too - lifestyle stuff like you said

horn_of_plenty on 10/09/2021:
Glad you got some nice deals and that’s a good schedule to get out early Fridays. I honestly think that 4day workweeks could be better for some - but with a desk job myself, I am not sure how long I could stay focused at the computer - but then again I’d have an easier time having bowel movements when working 4 days with 3 days off rather than the current - my whole adult life especially this job it’s difficult for me to have a bowel movement if I’m rushing to and from work and during work.

And I will not get up earlier just to poop, yet!

I hear that if I can poop 3x a week, that’s enough - and when I’m home on the weekend, I may even poop many times a day - when home relaxing - making up for a work week not ! I don’t like it, but my body has always done this when stressed

Jacky82020 on 10/09/2021:
3X a week would be a blessing for me now. Many poopies with the 4 grams potassium daily. But quit; Have to get back to 2 grams.

I have difficulty doing that kinda business away from my home throne. LOL
