Annie, next to my bike this very moment, iPad has no flash, so lousy pic

horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2021:
oh my but so pretty and i like the sun shining thru the blinds!

Jacky82020 on 02/24/2021:
Thanks. Had the thought afterwards I should have opened them wider

I can see deer and turkeys outside that window.

horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2021:
my dad only had a slightly sore shoulder, nothing compared to my mom.

Jacky82020 on 02/24/2021:
That’s too bad. The friend in Buffalo said neither of her parents had any side effects My young (25) niece didn’t either. She said all the nurses are doing great. A young crowd.

grannyannie on 02/24/2021:

bearcountrygg on 02/24/2021:
Daughter in law works at a school and has had both of her shots and only had a sore arm.

Jacky82020 on 02/24/2021:
I am expecting something bad because I don’t get flu shots due to side effects. No idea if it’d be similar! Guess could google, but so many variables

Donkey on 02/24/2021:
Beautiful plants!!!

Jacky82020 on 02/24/2021:
Thanks, donkey. I like plants around the house

horn_of_plenty on 02/25/2021:

Girls, I'm getting scared about those shots now!

Progress as of today: 22.6 lbs lost so far, only 3.4 lbs to go!

Donkey on 02/23/2021:
Ha ha ha ha! Well I don't think you'll be facing a jet rocket! If you're getting the first shot, you should have no issues.

I have a bunch of people in my life getting the 2nd shot soon - Male Co-Worker, Husband, Boss & wife - and I can share with you their experiences, if you like.

Jacky82020 on 02/23/2021:
Please share! Are they having reactions? Are they worse for the second? Not bad for the first?

grannyannie on 02/23/2021:
Don't worry. My sister had no reaction to her first, my cousin and his wife had no reactions to either of their 2 doses. Have lots of friends who had no reaction. Husband reacted to his AstraZeneca - muscle aches, slight fever for less than 12 hours. I had no reaction at all.

Jacky82020 on 02/23/2021:
Good to know! Thanks, Annie

bearcountrygg on 02/23/2021:
I remember well...one flu season that had to be back in the early 70's...when they actually gave us all flu shots with a gun.....it didn't have a needle I believe...it forced the serum through the skin....Now I have to go look those up...it was only for a year and then they brought the shots back...but your rocket reminded me of it......be thankful for the shot...the gun was no fun....

Jacky82020 on 02/23/2021:
Great balls of fire! Didn’t know they used guns. Didn’t even know they had flu shots that far back.

bearcountrygg on 02/23/2021:
They were for the swine flu.......they didn't have regular flu shots then...in the 50's/60's we got sugar cubes with polio vaccine on them.....but nothing like regular flu shots.....that was many years in the future at that time....I never did see those guns being used again....I don't think they were too popular.

Jacky82020 on 02/23/2021:

grannyannie on 02/23/2021:
I barely felt my vaccination this time. Flu jab in the autumn hurt a lot more.

Jacky82020 on 02/23/2021:
Good to know! Thanks! I’m scared because of bad reactions to those 2 flu vaccines. They never bother Matt & he gets them every year. Figure if I only had the flu once in my entire life & am distancing myself & wearing a mask, I don’t need it. But there are a few studies claiming the flu shot enhances the covid vaccine. So he’s reacting to that this year.

horn_of_plenty on 02/23/2021:
don't be scared to get something that can only help you!

i do hear from my younger friends of a lot of soreness / body aches.

Jacky82020 on 02/23/2021:
Did your patents get theirs? My friend in Buffalo got shots for her parents; she’s the one who called RiteAid bawling to a sympathetic pharmacist who told her to bring them in the next day. They adopted her relatively late in life and are pretty old, older than I thought.

She’s around your age, ~40, but has an underlying condition. She has the 2 doc notes needed, but is having trouble scheduling. Told her to call that pharmacist and cry really really hard.

horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2021:
my mom got her shot and suffered very bad symptoms of pain and fever yesterday and today!!!!

Jacky82020 on 02/24/2021:
Oh, geez, that’s awful! What about your dad? Hers are both doing fine.

Interesting development on my covid vaccine!   I was shocked to get a notice from the insurance provider saying I am in Tier 1 & can make an appointment now.   Could have selected today, but chose Friday. The husband has an appointment for the same time, 10:30 AM.

The insurance originally said we were Tier 4 (16-65) & it could be a 6-12 month wait. Then they said we are now Tier 1 (>75 or underlying condition).   So turns out the PCP has me under "cardiac condition."   I do have a cardiac arrhythmia which is well controlled by lots of meds.   Been years since the husband had to haul me off to the ER.   He has a mild case of asthma, comes & goes.   Appears the PCP had someone electronically go through medical histories & move many to Tier 1.

Had our choice of a big sport's arena or a hospital downtown.  Chose  the hospital.   Have no idea if it will be drive through or what.   Only had 2 flu vaccines in my entire life due to unpleasant side effects, so am kinda dreading this, but beats the alternatives.

Progress as of today: 22.6 lbs lost so far, only 3.4 lbs to go!

bearcountrygg on 02/22/2021:
Well at least you will be able to put that behind you. I also have an arrhythmia but no meds. The only one I would be able to use would make me sleepy all of the time so I just learned to live with mine ( Rate dependent Left bundle branch block)......My heart races all of the time...and since it's been so long..I'm used to it. Just have to avoid anyone trying to make it stable.. medically....because it would not be a good result. Dr handed me a folder with 2 inches thick of EKG's and told me to keep it with me at all times.....UHHH NO....I'm just taking my chances...LOL

Jacky82020 on 02/22/2021:
Weird thing happened the 1st time I went to the ER. I have SVT, rapid heartbeat. They bring it down with an IV. The cardiologist suggested a cath ablation instead of the meds which I take faithfully, 3 different ones 3X a day. I set a digital alarm.

Anyways, the very day after I went to the ER, four local cardiologists went under federal investigation for performing too many cath procedures. In my little city here! A resident MD reported them. He said he got suspicious because every time a new patient walked in they were sent to the cath lab.

This involves inserting a tube into the femoral artery and burning away some heart tissue, or least that’s how it would have been done in my case. My ER cardiologist was not in the crooked group, but I wanted to try to meds first.

And the amazing thing is Medicare and other insurers fined the crap out of those crooks, but they continued practicing. The doc who reported them got a $600,000 whistleblower award & returned to his home state of Texas.

bearcountrygg on 02/22/2021:

Jacky82020 on 02/22/2021:
LOL! I like editorial cartoons.

bearcountrygg on 02/22/2021:
Well..that is scary.........Mine was caused by a doctor that was banned from several hospitals ( wish I had known that at the time)....I was 30...and had a simple unrelated surgery under general anesthesia....and they somehow caused me to have a heart attack on the table and didn't know what happened......heart attack continued through recovery room and then into my hospital room where it finally stopped. Dr admitted that something happened, did a test and then never gave me the results.....years later...a test showed the MI ( heart attack damage...back left side of heart is damaged).....That dr kept switching specialties over the years and I guess now we know why.

Jacky82020 on 02/22/2021:
Great Balls of Fire!

They have storylines just like that on my TV medical dramas. Sometimes the patient dies on the table and they cover it up and transfer the physician.

horn_of_plenty on 02/22/2021:
congrats on the change in tier and ability to get your Jabs! :)

Jacky82020 on 02/22/2021:
Thanks! Will be good to get it over with & interesting to see how it goes. Don’t know anyone in PA who got poked, but ok for all I know in California.

Matt checked with his California employer & they said he can take paid time off to go, however he works long hours Monday to Thursday & gets off at 10AM anyways.

Too bad he’s not at one of those places that are paying ppl $200 to get the shot. lol

bearcountrygg on 02/22/2021:
After working in a doctors office I quickly learned that Doctors are just people who went to school longer.......They are not as perfect as people like tom think they are, many are quite eccentric and can barely remember to bathe, change clothes, comb hair etc. I haven't been to a doctor in 20 years and I'm doing fine.....

Jacky82020 on 02/22/2021:
Wish I could avoid docs, but have to see them twice a year for these meds. Otherwise a waste of time. PCP won’t refill the RX’s unless I see his a$$. Fortunately the company in California the husband works for pays him Xtra money every month to cover the insurance premiums.

grannyannie on 02/22/2021:
Funny cartoon!

Glad you two are getting your vaccinations! Hope you don't have a reaction beyond a sore arm.

Jacky82020 on 02/22/2021:
Me too! But has to be done.

This may be a good excuse to sip champagne and suck frozen Reese Cups.

horn_of_plenty on 02/22/2021:
also let us know if you get any side effects...i hear the side effects are more present in the younger people!

Jacky82020 on 02/22/2021:
Will do. Only had 2 flu shots in my entire life because my arm was dreadfully sore for over a month. Also only had flu once in my life & I was exposed to all kinds of kids in that ghetto school. Think my resistance is strong because I don’t get colds either.

The school brought nurses into the staff lounge & encouraged everyone to get poked.

Donkey on 02/23/2021:
Glad to hear you're getting your shots. That's wonderful!

We got stuck in the driveway & now poor Matt is shoveling away.   I did call the guy who does this private road we live on & asked him to do our drive, but he hasn't made it by yet.  Silver lining is Burger King is now open & I have a $5 coupon for 2 little bacon cheeseburgers, 1 fry &  1 drink.

Saw a terrific article in the NYT a few days ago on how to order authentic N95's.   Ordered and should arrive soon.   Yay!

Today's a gym day, weights.

Progress as of today: 22.2 lbs lost so far, only 3.8 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 02/19/2021:
Yum, burger and fries. Over a year since I had that!

Jacky82020 on 02/19/2021:
Yep! I only get these tiny servings. Think that burger is no more than 400, tops. Fries small too & I’ll share. They had many coupons for bigger servings, but I was good & tossed them.

grannyannie on 02/19/2021:
I'm having a cheeseburger and homemade fries for my birthday dinner in a week!

Jacky82020 on 02/19/2021:
Sounds marvelous! Sure it will be infinitely better than what I just had.

horn_of_plenty on 02/19/2021:
sounds great about BK. i had bk nuggets a few weeks ago...hated them!

but their fries did win me over.

Jacky82020 on 02/19/2021:
It was great! Coupon $4, not $5. Two little bacon cheeseburgers, 1 fry, 1 Diet Coke. Will check calories later on that burger. In the past I would have supplemented meal with their onion rings, but no overdoing it today or not until at least sunset.

bearcountrygg on 02/19/2021:
I've been craving a hamburger lately....your lunch sounds so good.

Jacky82020 on 02/19/2021:
BK is the best fast food place on sending coupons. Do you get them and do you have a BK nearby?

Donkey on 02/19/2021:
The Boss went to BK today and offered to buy anyone an Impossible Burger who wanted one. (Or anything else they wanted.) I brought my frozen chili, which was already in the process of defrosting and had to get eaten. So I took a pass, but between you and me, not just because of the chili.

Jacky82020 on 02/19/2021:

Never tried the Impossible Burger. Hear it tastes like the real thing. Too bad it’s hi in calories. Guess that’s what makes it taste good!

Donkey on 02/19/2021:
Ha ha, love the comic!!!

Jacky82020 on 02/19/2021:
That’s me & HoP lol

bearcountrygg on 02/20/2021:
Nope...no BK's around here.....my cousin and her husband used to own several Burger Kings...Michigan upper peninsula and some in Wisconsin......but We only have McDonalds here. I should just make hamburgers myself...LOL

Jacky82020 on 02/20/2021:
You should! I made some a few weeks ago, used the preformed ones Walmart has in the fresh meat dept, day old, marked down. Think these were the kind with chopped cheddar cheese. Yum!

thinkpositive on 02/20/2021:
I’ve been using a N95 that I was given and am wondering how long I can wear the same mask??

Jacky82020 on 02/20/2021:
Good question. I googled & didn’t find a precise answer. Most hits pertained to medical personnel with high exposure. Said wear 8 hours and decontaminate with UV light, vaporized H2O2 etc.

For occasional use, some are saying rotate the masks every 5 days if worn daily. This limits stretching the bands. I know I am have a terrible time getting a proper fit with the KN95 & would rotate, but I don’t leave home on a daily basis.

Some also say rotating will allow sufficient time for any contamination to die off.

Given my limited mask use, I plan to wear the same one for ages. I did have to order 20 & will give some to friends/family.

Let me know if you find anything interesting!

Jacky82020 - Monday Feb 15, 2021
(CR & IF & Exercise)
Weight: 112.2

Today a gym day.   Yippee.   Downstairs there every other day.

Changing my menu some.  Fiber One at noon, prepared in the microwave with enough water to make a hot mush & topped with fake brown sugar & cinnamon.

Lots of vegetables at dinner, unless I cook salmon or boneless skinless chicken breast,

Late night 2 hi fiber English muffins, one topped with pizza sauce and cheddar, the other with goat cheese, fake brown sugar & cinnamon.

Can't wait for my new heatable slippers to arrive Wednesday.  insoles defective, working on refund with eBay seller.

Progress as of today: 21.8 lbs lost so far, only 4.2 lbs to go!

grannyannie on 02/15/2021:
I always put cinnamon on my porridge.

Donkey on 02/15/2021:
I'm sorry to hear about the inserts. Beatable slippers sound heavenly!

I eat Fiber One too. I find it to be a helpful tool. Sweet, crunchy (I eat it dry), and lots of fiber!

Jacky82020 on 02/15/2021:
Yep, highest cereal fiber content I ever found. High daily fiber reduces risk factors for colon cancer. I was doing 40 grams a day, but got away from it when I began serial dieting in 8/20. Need to resume.

Jacky82020 on 02/15/2021:
Love cinnamon! Great on my English muffin desserts too.

grannyannie on 02/15/2021:
I love cinnamon and stevia on toast!

Jacky82020 on 02/15/2021:

bearcountrygg on 02/15/2021:
I wish I could handle high fiber things.......they cause me more trouble than they are wort...every so often i give them a try again...but it always results in a day wasted in the bathroom.....

Jacky82020 on 02/15/2021:
My problems are just the opposite, a decent dump is a miracle. lol

Horn_of_plenty on 02/15/2021:
the sugar on the fiber one must be nice!

i hate that the ingredients / recipe for fiber one changed...i used to think it tasted like a dessert, but now it tastes like cardboard to me!

perhaps i can use stevia in it to make it better...i think i still have a box iin my pantry but perhaps it's gone bad...i forget sometimes what i have in the back of the pantry LOL

nice to hear you are making some menu changes .... it reduces boredom and chances of deviating when you meant not to ...

great idea for a savory muffin and a sweet muffin for late night!!!! you ust reminded me i might like to make toasted eng muffins for my cheese toast / grilled cheese! and that i can turn it into a pizza with some sauce!...things to do in future! :)

Jacky82020 on 02/15/2021:
I can’t stand Fiber One unless it’s cooked up like a hot cereal with sugar and cinnamon. Same for Bran Buds and the rest.

Horn_of_plenty on 02/15/2021:
slippers sound GREAT! if i could wear slippers at work, that would be my top purchase. great find.

Jacky82020 on 02/15/2021:
Here’s hoping they work out! I’ll let you know.

horn_of_plenty on 02/16/2021:
turns out i do best sitting on the insoles like a booty warmer. works...like car heating seats.

Jacky82020 on 02/16/2021:
Anxious to get the slippers tomorrow with the microwaveable insoles

good job.

my weight may have gone up a pound or so. eating more slightly, up more hours, but also Time of MONTH!

Jacky82020 on 02/12/2021:
Mine usually fluctuates day to day too That’s life!

grannyannie on 02/12/2021:
I'm afraid to get on the scale.

Jacky82020 on 02/12/2021:
Often gave the same dread! Know exactly what you meanl.

Donkey on 02/12/2021:
Not too bad... pretty darn good in my book!

Jacky82020 on 02/12/2021:
You make a good point. I am trying to stay the course. Forever losing & gaining the same 5-20 pounds. Guess the same 5 isn’t really all that bad. It’s a doable loss in a month or so if one works at it.

horn_of_plenty on 02/12/2021:
lately my scale is up a hair, but, i do not care bc it is also from eating more volume...my first few weeks of work i wasn't eating many veggies and my weiht was abnormally lower...and i figured i most prob wouldn't maintain it. now i hope to maintain my current...which isn't too different, but more manageable. LOL.

on another note, i cannot wait for the insoles. SO EXCITED. it'll be much easier to put them in my shoes and not have to change socks, etc, at work.

Jacky82020 on 02/12/2021:
Did you get them from EBay?

bearcountrygg on 02/12/2021:
Staying the same is fine.....may just be a little plateau.....and then start moving again.

horn_of_plenty on 02/12/2021:
No, Amazon:

(CR & IF & Exercise)
Weight: 111.2

that didn't work.   will try again.

Gym pics.

Here is an interesting covid vaccine story.   A friend's mother fell and broke her shoulder.   The friiend is going over everyday to help these elderly parents, I think 70 & 75.  The mother called in   a visiting nurse.   And a PT.   My friend became extremely concerned they would expose her parents to covid & spent hours trying to get them appointments. Finally she phoned the Rite Aide pharmacist, weeping hysterically.   He said: Fine,  bring them in at 11AM tomorrow.   She did and all went well!   She is too young to get one for herself now.   This is in NY.

Sore from workout yesterday, but a good sore.  Plan is to do the gym every other day, like the husband.   He spends less time on the legs, says he gets enough from running & the elliptical.  I don't run, merely walk fast when I tread.   He has always ran like a fiend from hell is chasing him.   Allows him to pig out on giant desserts & not gain an ounce.  A$$hole.

Progress as of today: 22.8 lbs lost so far, only 3.2 lbs to go!

Salamander on 02/08/2021:
Jacky, do you belong to a gym? We put our memberships on hold.

Jacky82020 on 02/08/2021:
No, not for ages, not since college. The husband is really into fitness & has had quite the home gym for like 25 years, if not longer. He took some pics for me last week for a friend & I will post some here.

horn_of_plenty on 02/08/2021:
lucky she got the shot for her parents!

great gym pics. you are seriously SET! :)

Jacky82020 on 02/08/2021:
Yeah, that pharmacist sounds like a terrific dude.

Give the gym a whirl every 5 years or so. Damn husband never lets up. A$$hole. lol.

Salamander on 02/08/2021:
You have a very impressive gym. My boyfriend is building an addition for a home gym. I am giving serious thought to moving in when it’s completed, something we’ve discussed for ages. Too much construction noise now and workers around the property.

Jacky82020 on 02/08/2021:
Wow! We built an addition onto the Southern California house for the gym. Long narrow lot, so it worked out well. I acted as GC and hired all the subs. Even drew up the blueprints. The guys at the city permit office were extremely helpful and corrected all my stupid mistakes.

So proud when the gym was done until they reassessed the property and sent a big tax bill. Hired a lawyer and appealed. They did lower it some, but made me understand why the neighbors built without permits.

Horn_of_plenty on 02/08/2021:
gurl, i just saw your entry below...take it easy...you donn't have to work EVERY SINGLE MUSCLE you have in one session!!!!

maybe start with tops 6 exercises, repeated with 3 sets each!?

Jacky82020 on 02/08/2021:
It’s only every other day, so the upper/lower split is really once every 3-4 days. Nothing else to do! Getting bored as hell in this house 24/7. Could never do it if I worked outside the house like you.

Enjoy listening to some albums I haven’t heard for a while downstairs

Salamander on 02/08/2021:
Hats’ off to your personal trainer!

Good plan!

If i stick with it! A shame not to take advantage of that gym downstairs.

I have that problem with squirrels too. Fortunately for me, I enjoy watching them too. We have several nests in our trees.

That's quite an impressive upper body workout. I am not nearly that diversified or dedicated. I lose interest after the 3rd exercise or so, so I try to do 3 sets of 1 exercise per body part (chest, back, triceps, biceps).

I tend to gain weight on the scale when I weight train.

The husband has been really into it for a good 25 years. I am wondering if I will add any muscle poundage and if so, fat loss will compensate

We have red squirrels that get into all our bird feeders.

Jacky82020 on 01/31/2021:
Lots of reds and greys here. Love the occasional black eastern grey. Very striking.

I think tomorrow at work I’ll read thru your hubby’s routine in closer detail :)

Your egg recipe turned out great! Thanks for reminding me I should make some egg muffins with fillings to bring dor breakfast to work whenever I decide to break free from my carb kick !

horn_of_plenty on 02/01/2021:
I meant to call it an egg casserole!

Jacky82020 on 02/01/2021:
They call that egg thing a frittata. Baked this one in the oven. Very simple to toss together. Wish I had a can of chopped tomatoes. You can add any veggies you want. It’s like a quiche minus all the heavy cream. Much better.
