Got on the rowing machine & it was surprisingly easy on my knee.  Climbed aboard the spinner and it began to ache.   Did ok on the recumbent bike, logger 23K steps on the Fitbit.   Keep it on my ankle.   Not as good as real walking steps, but best I can do for now.

Well under 200 calories for the day.   Will try not to overdo it later!

I want to say that picture of YOUR DOG is sooooo adorable. I LOVE pics of sleeping animals. you are so blessed with having these dogs around :) do they like to be cuddled? do they hang with you?

well, yes, i guess that is true above about the guinea pigs.!!!! they do not like loud music, i'm not sure they'd want to sleep thru it??? but they would probably hide...

...but yeah, they love the sound of FOOD ....food coming...! :) awww.

if you feel too sore, try to massage it yourself or if you have a roller use that!...it's a struggle to not be able to exercise because you are sore. i used to never wait and always push it when my body was still healing...now i'm just keeping the status quo and doing what i feel is the minimum to stay somewhat fit / looking fit. I could do more but since it's been rainy, i am not even trying to attempt more.

Do these dogs ever like to cuddle! Especially that one, the pug/Frenchie mix. He likes to lay on top of me and at 35 pds, it gets uncomfortable at times.

Very difficult for me to stop exercising! Wet and rainy here too. But all my exercise is Iindoors now. Walked a lot in California.

Haha, I used to put my Fitbit on my ankle when I was on my indoor trainer / spin bike. It was only because I was part of a fitbit step challenge and am too competitive to let hours of time on the bike equal nothing on Fitbit. But otherwise I never use it to count my steps. I often find the days I work out harder are not the days I have higher step counts, so it's useless to me for data analysis.

I find it marginally motivating in that I’d like to do at least 20K fake bike steps a day. But I don’t ever bother putting it on half of the time anymore.

 Knee still sore, but rode recumbent bike for 2 hours and then hopped on the NuStep.   Moved it closer to the futon and worked out with the bad leg on it.   So used 1 leg and my arms, ok.   Will try rowing machine  later.

Finding eating 2:30 to 10:30 easy so far.   I do expect some ravenous days acoming, but not yet.

 Pigged out last two days, but weight didn't budge. So that's something.   Bought a discounted chocolate cheesecake & it was wonderful!  Used to bake NY style cheeecskes, but not for years. Damn! It was so good!   Love cheesecake.  
Downloaded one GP pic for HoP and now Pinterest sends hundreds!  I originally went there for French Bulldog pics.   My boy comes from a a champion line & I found his dad, pics taken at big dog shows.

Dad looks exactly like my boy!

awwww that guinea pig almost looks like a Hamster! Those photos are so cute, I love so many rodents. I used to have a hamster growing up as well as 2 hamsters (one died and then i got another one) before getting my guinea pigs that i currently have. I think after guinea pigs, I might get them again, or, more possibly, a dog later down the road when my income is a little more stable. I'm not sure on the dog, as it's a big responsibility and perhaps could impact my plans to travel as well as just plans all the time...so, perhaps i'll just be getting guinea pigs again! haha!

i'd love to see more pics of your bulldog and other pets.

i also love cheesecake....i have baked, once, a pumpkin cheesecake that was really good, two years ago i think....boy do i want a cheesecake now too!

 Made it until 4PM on coffee and buillion.   maybe 75 Cals, tops.   then had light pastrami on wheat roll with sourkrout. Small thin slice of meat, so maybe 350 Cals.   tasted ok. Lots of hot mustard.   may eat the kraut by itself tomorrow.   too much salt, but hardly any Cals.

Going for IF now, was actually pretty much doing it since 8/20/20 anyway.  

Plan is to eat from 2:30 to 10:30 PM.   Not an optimum time period, but what I'm used to.   Will keep it under 1,000 cal. Tops. So actually a CR/IF combo.

Decided against making bone broth for now.   Too much work!

Ok. That went thru. Diet working well so far, lost over 10 pds. Since 8/20/20. Don’t expect same rate going forward. C’est la vie. Doing the CR/IF more for health reasons than weight loss, but I do want to get back to weight of yesteryears. It’s all connected.

well, i'd say it can be a lot of work for bone broth, but i'll also tell you they sell packets for bone broth the easy way on amazon, just add water! i, particularly, didn't like the taste of the particular brand i bought, so i never went back to it and settle with my salty chicken broth cubes that i enjoy...

Close to my sister's wedding, i delayed my breakfasts a little bit and that helped me lose weight with one less snack going on throughout the day and just eating a late breakfast.

I wish i could do IF, but it doesn't work well for me and it tends to lead me to binge, unfortunately.!

Just to be self-deprecating for a second, I eat between 7:00am and 10:00pm LOL. But, in all seriousness, everyone is different and what works for one person may not work for the next person. Good for you for continuing to work to figure out what works for you!

I used to eat between 4:30 AM and 11 PM! I am reading 3 bigger meals is better than 6+ smaller ones. A lot to do with insulin and glucose metabolism.

No, it’s simple, the way I’m doing it. Use the wall clock. Stared at it all day yesterday, waiting for 2:30PM, then realized the husband had a conference all at 5 & wanted to eat at 4, so I waited until then. I did briefly track calories using Fitbit, but I have always leaned towards a simple diet of the same things everyday. So not much point in my case. Never into food prep or a varied menu.

 So I learned another very interesting thing from Dr. Fung's book in addition to dieting doesn't reduce muscle mass.   None of the "fasts" and he & others advocate are really fasts, as in the sense of zero calorie water fasts.   His strictest one allows up to 6 cups of coffee daily with 1 TBS of heavy cream, so there's 360 calories right there.   he's also big on bone broth and says drink all you want.   He doesn't list calories for anything in the book I have,  but judging from other recipes, the broth is ~60 Cals per 8 oz serving.   basically, he's saying certain nutrients are as good as a fast and other foods are bad.   He mentions some guy who tried a 30 day fast on kombucha tea and sea salt which averaged 200 Cals a day.   The guy was going for 30 days, but he got too hungry and quit after 3 weeks.

i am thinking of making bone broth tomorrow.  Need the ingredients and avoid shopping on Sundays, too crowded.   They crockpot the broth for 48 hours.   Some ppl roast them first,   Sounds like a good way to eliminate fat.

Oh yes, I forgot the bone broth! It's very delicious! It's not the same as broth from bouillon.

Does he talk about "bulletproof" coffee? Be careful with that - there can be an awful lot of calories in that.

When I was trying to do IF, I would try very hard to sustain on coffee with HWC (heavy whipping cream) until 11am, but at work, I just couldn't do it. It was easier to do that if I were at home.

Yes! They do discuss Bulletproof Coffee! Think it was 400 Cals a cup, not sure, so many numbers running in my brain from all the recent reading. Plan to do IF, eating window from 3-11 PM with my usual coffee with protein drink and the buillion based “broth” in the “fasting” period. This would be maybe 75 cal, tops. Then 800-1000 cal during nonfast period. Yes, I know eating earlier in day is better, but I’m not there yet. How did IF work for you? I tried keto and it was a disaster for me.

360 cal is still so low! yes, those "bulletproof coffees"

and bone broth is so healthy...with the collagen.

i once fasted with only my slightly sugary kombucha...no good...it is too much of a diaretic...and i broke out...depends on the type of kombucha, i guess.

Look, Annie.  

I am giving the knee a rest after a few easy hours on the bike.   Really liked  a physician on the fasting documentary & bought one of his books.   Many eye-openers. Says fasting & calorie restriction does not result in muscle loss and he has the science to prove it.   Lots new to me about insulin and human growth hormone.   I am just loving this book!

 Tried to edit post and deleted the day! 

last nite I began a doc film from Prime called Fasting.   ok, at least what I saw, not much, will finish later.   A lot about IF.   Saw some reviews that trashed it because it promoted ProLon, a fast mimicking diet.   it sells for $250 for a 5 day kit. Outrageous!   The calories range from 750-1100.   not much of a fast.    I have the guy's book, an Italian American professor at USC. The daily menus are in the book.   He suggests this 5 day "fast" be done from once a month to twice a year, depending.   Don't see who would pay all that money for these simple plant based foods.

I've read things about a fat fast, when I was doing keto. I guess there are other types of "fasting" which I don't know if you've looked into.

Most featured in the documentary fasted for proven health benefits. A few did so for religious reasons. A few were whacked out and went to fasting spas for 30 day water fasts. She said most did ok for 3 weeks, then many became very ill, including her. She & others went to the ICU for kidney failure. Damn fools! Paying all that money to practically kill themselves. She was young and thin too.

my dog's brother from another mother.

so my damn knee clicks now when I walk up the stairs.  Never had a clicky joint in my life! did some research and the best fit is PCL injury, grade one, from when I was peddling fast on the bike and my foot missed and went down, like really hard.   appears they do all kinds of tests and then say: take 2 aspirins and call me in the morning.   so I am not seeing a physician, not unless it gets worse. But distressing that the original injury was a good three months ago.  


Well big weight drop overnight, 2 pds.   Know it won't last and one will reappear on the scale probably tomorrow, but haven't seen the 122's for years.  Was down to 117 in 2011 when we moved to this house and it was upwards from there.   my weight fluctuates for no known reason.   not due to fluid intake, been drinking 3-4 mugs of the salt free broth with malt vinegar & hot sauce daily and the mug is a great big 17.8 oz Starbucks one.   has to be I sometimes retain water.

Forgot to mention since you are big on pickles, I only eat pickles when we visit the US and my sister always has some at lunch time. Hubby's online Thai chef recommends dill pickles on the side with fried rice. In Thailand they always give us slices of cucumber. Now hubby and I keep snacking on pickles - 10 cals each so no biggie.

Love pickles, but only eat my homemade ones now due to high sodium content. The real ones taste better! I can’t duplicate the flavor even with fresh dill. So my pickles mostly taste like malt vinegar and garlic. Not bad.

Do you feel or look like you need to lose weight? When I was 60 and got down to 129 and had built up quite a lot of muscle I was wearing a size 6 US (5'4"). I looked thin. So a number on the scale isn't everything.

It is to me! I am recapturing my lost youth. Lol. Was always 100-105, then about 108 and at 112 for years, Plus I am reading all about the increased health benefits and longevity via calorie restriction. The husband has maintained his college weight. Out in the gazebo now doing a 2 hour run. I don’t even run, just walk fast on the treadmill.

Yea, they always have really wide ranges. Also depends on your build.

I miss my treadmills workouts. I did HIIT alternating by going fast on the flat and slower on a steep incline. Excellent workout!

the more weight you lose, the harder it is to continue to lose at the same rate because you need less calories to maintain lower weights and it becomes harder to create the same deficit as you did when you were at a higher weight...

I have done an 'all liquids' diet years ago for only 'one day'....I bought a little jug of grape juice and was diluting the juice with water and drinking it like that off and on during the day...had a total of about 400 calories total of the juice that day, I seem to recall, and the next day I was down 3 or 4 pounds...Not something one would want to do often...would certainly not be healthy...but it did give me a 'jumpstart', so to speak, at that time...not recommending it, though...cause I do not think it is healthy to do that.

My Mama did Slimfast chocolate and other flavors protein drinks many years ago and she lost about 100 pounds within a year! She ate food, also, during this..just replaced some meals with the Slimfast.

 I wish there was a simple & reliable way to measure my resting metabolic rate.   I saw this one device that was selling for $350 and thought maybe I could find one used, but learned it's highly unreliable. Saw another for $3500 & don't want to spend nearly that much.   saw some spas and gyms offering the service for $69, but their methods appeared questionable.  Sure my PCP wouldn't order a test and if he did the insurance won't pay.   oh well, guess ultimately it doesn't matter.   I did find a site that used math.   said I needed 1384 Cals per day for basic metabolism.   sounds a lot better than the 2000 commonly recommended for women.    Know I can't lose weight on 1200.   my rate must be low.

Yeah, it may be a tough one to figure out. I did read that those on strict calorie restriction diets have a 2 degree F temperature drop. Mine is the same as always. Must be if fakes a long time.

Seems like with all the intense workouts you do your metabolism would be high. It will slow down if you don't get enough calories. Your body goes into starvation mode and slows down.

Oh, that’s interesting. I was wondering if exercise offset the slower metabolism from calorie restriction. I have never not exercised, except for brief periods when I had some kind of injury.

on somewhat of an agreement with Annie, you are relatively young and normal person with no impediments, i do not think your metabolism would be low...i would say it's average...like you do not need really low calories to reach your goal like someone who is chair bound would.
