Doing soy protein powder mix for change today. marvelous flavors and great texture, very thick and rich when mixed with water in the blender. used chocolate mocha today, had a cup cold and another hot. 100 cal per serving, 27 gms protein.
Just accidentally deleted all of my January posts and lost my precious bar graph!!!
this single entry should restore it.

1000 cals doing nothing is like being an elderly woman who is bed-bound...you burn more, i am sure!
sorry some garlics were bad but it sounds like you got a lot of good ones! how awesome that you are into these types of experiments. you'll have to let us know on this natto, i'd NEVER had tried that on my own if you paid me! (well, depends how much you'd pay me! ) hahaha
It will be intresting to see what happened to your knee. I foresee a scan of some sort. (I hope that's not delayed by covid.) Then, I predict either physical therapy or a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon. PT is fine and fun. The other option... not so much.
Let's see if I'm psychic!
LOOK, HOP!
Not my usual dinner of soybeans & cabbage. Made a pot roast with potatoes, carrots and onions for the husband. Only had the veggies, but soaked up the gravy with a fat wheat roll. Easily 500 Cals if not considerably more. My bad.
Weight has stabilized. Not losing more because I am eating more and not exercising. Knee still sore and doc appointment not until 12/7. Hoping he says exercise away, it won't make things any worse. Really want to hit 115 by 12/31/20, but if not, then early 2021.
KOMBUCHA Experiment #1. Took liberties with the recipes. Poured 16 oz of raw unpasteurized GT in 2 quarts of tea. Used 3 black bags, 2 geeen and 2 decaffeinated black (latter found lurking in cabinet)
Added 3/4 Cup granulated sugar. Cooled tea to 85 degrees and poured in GT. Lots of SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria & Yeast) in bottle. If it goes forth and mutiples, I'm in business. Put in bird room, warmest in house, 70-74. The cloth is to keep undesirables out and allow CO2 to escape. Will add flavors and possibly a sweetener later. The raw GT tasted like crap compared to the peach/ pineapple flavor.now
Got glucose meter to work & disappointed with the result of 107. John Clement says fasting level ideal at 75-85, under 95 ok. Only a cup of coffee all day, a little chocolate soy protein mix added. May have not sufficiently hydrated today which could also raise levels.
Meant to try reading first thing in AM, but broke fast by eating 2 bananas in the middle of the night. Will try to avoid the same tonight & drink more water.
I was 99 after a 12 hr fast in July. Expected much better after losing over 15 pds. & a far superior diet. Of course some margin of error to be expected between the lab and my cheapie ReliOn.
Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!
i thought that when making the kombucha, it needs refrigeration? or not?
well, maybe the two bananas changed your glucose reading considerably?
let us know if you do continual glucose monitoring and give me all the details on the kombucha, especially after it takes & you give it a try.
I applaud this endeavor! I too am a DIY, especially if it costs a lot to buy the product off the shelves. It's good to have a homemade version, even if used as a "backup" alternative.
I'm sure the bananas affected the glucose reading in the morning. Try again?
cannot wait to move on with myself, get away from PMP review...!
also, there's more i may share about the credentials, if i pass the test. otherwise, i will prob choose to study more, but then, if only failures, i will make the choice to never think about it again, as far as i can help it! LOL
Weird how some gifs animate here and others don't Two rice cookers on now making black garlic & waiting for temperature to equilibrate on another crockpot. Other one got too hot (160). The black garlic averages $30 a pound & I can buy the fresh for $3/pd. Very faint pleasant aroma in kitchen near the pots. Don't know why some are complaining the stench is so ghastly they use the garage. Concluding some posters never actually made black garlic.
Added black tea and granulated sugar to pickup order. Only ingredients needed for the kombucha recipe. I have other teas and brown sugar here, no black or granulated. Not understanding why the recipes for making kombucha from a bottle are multi-stepped . Say to start with 4 oz of the bottled tea, 8 oz water and some sugar and let ferment for maybe 10 days. Then add more of the same & ket ferment longer, until one gets up to a gallon. Don't see why I can't pour the entire bottle into a gallon of tea. May do just that. Nothing to lose other than the $3 GT tea.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!! :)
keep ME updated on making your kombucha !!!?
Added a bottle of GT kombucha to Walmart list. No idea if I will like this brew, but already thinking about making my own from this bottle. I have a nice collection of peach and raspberry flavorings from my adventures in making Snapple.
Dinner, yet more soy beans and cooked slaw. Liking fried sliced up whole cabbage better and won't be buying the raw slaw anymore. plan to fry the cabbage with onions.
Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!
Same dinner at 5PM: soy beans and cabbage. Ok, had a few bites of meatloaf. One of the dogs is quite elderly and has decided he wants only my homemade meatloaf, so I'm making a really huge one pretty much every other day. He is a big boy, maybe 125 pds. Can't resist a few bites when it comes out of the microwave. Difficult as well to avoid snacking on the parrots' pistachios which is their evening treat. Avoided that today by giving them nuts after I had dinner when I was full, instead of later.
Finished off my small jar of black garlic last nite. Won't buy more, am determined to make my own, Ordered the better rice cooker from Amazon, will arrive tomorrow. Added 3 (1.5 pds) garlic bulbs to my pickup list. Searched for cheaper bulk sacks of garlic and nothing to be found. Many sellers wanted up to $15 a pound! Don't get it! supposedly easy to grow.
soybbeans and cooked cabbage have become my dinner staple, the first meal of the day which I eat between 4 & 5. Filling until maybe 9, then I have 2 hi fiber English muffins with mustard & whatever & the other with nut butter & honey.
HOP, looked at kombucha. Added a bottle to my pickup list. This brand had more appealing flavors than GT. Do you like kombucha because of health benefits or for the flavor?
Progress as of today: 16.4 lbs lost so far, only 7.6 lbs to go!
I sometimes do buy the kombucha you have a photo of above. They add some stevia to that brand. Yes, the flavors are nice - I like the pineapple peach and cherry also ...also a couple others. The greens flavor is surprisingly good / sweet. Yes, this brand tastes good
But beware, there is caffeine in this brand, more than the others, so I usually have to be more careful when drinking it. And not have it in combo with coffee also. Sometimes it makes me jittery. I used to drink it more but bought it the other day when the store didn’t have the brand I prefer that you bought last time....
I like kombucha bc it’s carbonated and filling. I like that it has probiotics. I love that it is low calorie and only drink flavors that appeal to me. I love it most for being low calorie and filling and I can relax and drink it for awhile and it’s satisfying for that long while - it helps me cut calories
I tried a coffee flavored kombucha. Did not care for it. I've heard the fruit flavors are better, but never tried again.
Read about this really fat guy (400+ pds) who did a 200 cal a day kombucha fast. Wanted to go 30 days, but broke done around day 23 . Lost a huge amount. Takes a really large person to shed pounds like he did. My doc is telling me to limit my weight loss to 2 pds a week. Impossible! Best I can do is 1 a week and not even every week at that.
i cannot do the strong ginger flavors or root flavors.
Finally dinner! I was starving. had soy beans and the fried cole slaw mix and a tiny piece of the bbq beef sandwich leftover from yesterday. Husband had steak and a baked potato and fpeam and carrots. Now he gorge in on a huge piece of pie.
This is
black garlic.
Cen
It's done after 4-8 weeks. no odor yet from mineThe hopefully soon to be black garlic is cooking in my rice pot. Made a special trip to buy the garlic. In and out of store fast, used self checkout. considered padding the order up to $35 so I could get pickup, but afraid the convenient slots would be taken and think I'm getting too paranoid about covid.
Some saying the odor is awful & others saying they like it. Nothing yet, guess it takes a while to develop.
Finally got into the 117's, but don't expect it to stick. Weight bounces around, may take another week for it to stabilize. But moving in the right direction. be
Progress as of today: 16.2 lbs lost so far, only 7.8 lbs to go!
also, thank you for the reminder on Soy...i used to buy tofu more regularly....i should buy it more, it's so convenient and has a long shelf life (in the fridge)...it's great when i'm low on protein, i can use it with veggies...and it's filling.
Healthy but boring dinner. Salmon and the stir fried cabbage mix with the Italian blend vegetables. Not certain about calories, but for sure under 400. The husband had the same thing but with mac and cheese, the frozen stoeffers one that is pretty good. High in fat and salt! & calories.
No exercise for last few days. Knee getting worse. Have appointment to see sports doc on 12/7. Wish it weren't so far out! Considered going to Urgent Care on Sunday, but learned they don't do images, even though the imaging center is in the same building.
On track to hit 117 by month's end. Then 115 by end of December and my goal of 110 early 2021. Impossible to say how much IF is helping with weight loss. Doing it for other health benefits. Reading more and more the American way of eating multiple times throughout the day is not good, 3 meals a day is much better & two better yet. Something to do with the continuous release of insulin.
Saw doc film on Prime the other day about some woman in the UK. Basically ate herself to death. Not sure of her exact weight, they use stones instead of kg or pounds. But think a stone is 14 pds. Had trouble making the math conversions mentally, but she had to be over 600 pds. This bariatric surgeon was going on and on about how ppl stuff their faces all day long & how unhealthy it is. Of course she was an extreme example. He said a lion may have a big meal a day and that's it. You don't see any saying: think I'll have a chipmunk or two to tide me over until dinner time. lol.
Progress as of today: 15.6 lbs lost so far, only 8.4 lbs to go!
The UK is catching up with the US in percentage of the population who are obese. But there is much less here who are morbidly or grossly obese. I've seen a difference over the 20 years I've been here.
The clothing sizes in the stores have gotten bigger too.
also, i think of all the people on here, you have lost weight the fastest. be safe though...and try to see yourself with a plan to keep it off. it will get some getting used to, maintenance.
My plan is to continue with IF & CR. Good research shows they’re linked to lower risk of cancer, cardiac disease etc etc & healthy longevity. I feel great and man does that first meal of the day in late afternoon taste wonderful, nutritious and boring as it can be,
Get that knee checked!
When I had PF, I thought it was nothing, that the pain would pass. So I ignored it, or tried to, for a week or 2. By the time I saw the doctor, I could hardly walk on the foot.
Don't let that happen to you!
I can understand your frustration with your knee. I hope time passes quickly for now between now and then.
Very curious about this "super food" natto. Can't see paying $50 for 50 cents worth of ingredients. Looks like it can be made in a yogurt cooker. Some say it tastes like cheese and I never met a cheese I didn't like. Will probably order the culture and this yogurt maker tomorrow.
This is natto, fermented soy beans. You add a bacterial culture and keep at 115 degrees for a 24 hours. They say it's an acquired taste that tastes and smells horrible. I tried to cut and paste a description here, but failed. Very expensive online, has to ship in chilled containers. I'd like to try it, but sounds creepy. Wish I could find a small container. Probably could have in SF or San Diego, but not around here.
Super excited to get very cordial response to my email from John Clement. He wrote The Switch, by far and away best in show of the live long & healthy books. Interesting guy. Practiced law for 20 years, became an entrepreneur & then devoted 20 years to anti-aging research. Doubt anyone in the whole wide world knows as much as John. Offered to send me numerous copies of the book, but I declined, saying I've already made additional purchases for a few ppl. Don't really know any others who would be interested. He's big on CR & IF and explains everything at the molecular level.
Progress as of today: 15.2 lbs lost so far, only 8.8 lbs to go!
i agree, maybe you could find it in LA or san diego! haha...at first i thought it looked like a pudding or dessert of some sort. but after reading your taste/smell interpretation, i'll pass!
i'd have taken the book! haha...but then you'd have to mail it to me! LOL...and i think i'm set on studying for now! :)
The natto sounds gross as hell per many people, but I am curious. One thing that concerns me now is I’m seeing ppl say it stinks up the kitchen. Maybe I shouldn’t attempt this at home!
Dinner! The stir fry cabbage was a bit on the bland side. Will use healthy oil as HOP suggests next time and maybe some garlic powder.
Cooked soy beans. Since I remembered to soak beans overnight, it didn't take all day to crockpot them. Will eat one cup with equal amount of the Italian veggie mix and a little of the stir fryed cabbage & carrot mix. Beans & veggies amazingly filling. Did not buy my favorites this week: multigrain English muffins, blue cheese & hot mustard. Maybe in the future.
Reading about the so called Blue Zones today. Areas with high numbers of centurions and supercenturians. All attributed to lifestyle: diet, mostly plant based. Physical labor. Very interesting. They live long because of very low incidence of killer diseases like cancer and cardiac problems.
Progress as of today: 15.2 lbs lost so far, only 8.8 lbs to go!
the whole meal looks a lot more appealing than the shakes or just pickles. way to go on a healthy approach. remember to season, use spices, olive oil...your meal will be much more tasty.
thank you for sharing a pic of your cooking. nice job on totally delving into veggies.
It did! So only takes one

so techy.
lol Having fun! Still pissed I deleted my august and September bars. Will likely never have the motivation again to lose at that rate unless I pork up again which ain’t happening

That’s amaZing! Great job! I see it says CR. Is that calorie restriction (cron?). If so, I read a book and was super interested in it, did it for a little while and fell off. Still want to do it though.. you
Yep, that’s what it is. I stumbled across an ebook at the library called The Switch that reminded me of the calorie restriction research. I am far more interested in disease risk (cancer, CVS etc) than weight loss at this point, but dropping the 20+ is good! Terrific book that sums up all the research.

Book looks interesting
Loved it so much I bought both a digital and print copy. The $50 I spent to get a library card for the Brooklyn Library was definitely worth it! So many ebooks! All the new books. Sometimes a wait, but not long.

I’ll look it up! Thanks!
