Dinner! The stir fry cabbage was a bit on the bland side. Will use healthy oil as HOP suggests next time and maybe some garlic powder.
Cooked soy beans. Since I remembered to soak beans overnight, it didn't take all day to crockpot them. Will eat one cup with equal amount of the Italian veggie mix and a little of the stir fryed cabbage & carrot mix. Beans & veggies amazingly filling. Did not buy my favorites this week: multigrain English muffins, blue cheese & hot mustard. Maybe in the future.
Reading about the so called Blue Zones today. Areas with high numbers of centurions and supercenturians. All attributed to lifestyle: diet, mostly plant based. Physical labor. Very interesting. They live long because of very low incidence of killer diseases like cancer and cardiac problems.
Progress as of today: 15.2 lbs lost so far, only 8.8 lbs to go!
My soy beans are here! Will soak tonight and crockpot it tomorrow. Excellent analysis. 300 calories in a cooked cup with 30 grams of protein. Best bean ever.
Finally broke the 120 barrier. Next milestone will be 117, what I weighed when we moved here in 2011.
Got all kinds of healthy veggies. A raw shredded mix of red and green ccabbage and carrots. Will stirfry with a little Pam. Got a whole big green cabbage. And lots of mixed frozen vegetables. Apparently Walmart pickup does not like weighing produce, so they overcharge with a fixed price. Used the pickup service for everything except the produce. Got dry black and kidney beans. Soy beans on their way from Amazon, Soy powder coming from Southern California. Bought some almond milk to make shake. Hope it isn't too ghastly!
Trying to eat only between 4PM and 10PM. More calories around 4-5. Veggies & beans & lots or hot sauce. Oddly enough the best for me is the Walmart Louisiana one. Lowest in sodium & cheap, a dollar a bottle. Major plus is reduced sodium.
Progress as of today: 14.6 lbs lost so far, only 9.4 lbs to go!
I've made a shake with almond milk, banana, cocoa, vanilla before. Yum. I don't buy almond milk anymore though and use soy or coconut.
I know my diary doesn’t reflect my usual type of eating - when I am working and busy, I usually count on lots of veggies to fill me up so that I don’t want to snack a lot after my lunch at work !
I used to eat more veggies, especially during my lunches when at work, than what I’m doing now. I figure it will be not too difficult to go back to how I used to be...
I don't know that I've had straight-up soybeans, ever, except for when I was a kid. I remember my grandmother having a dish of salted, roasted soybeans on her coffee table from time to time. Kind of like peanuts, but different.
Ordered soy protein powder. Been years since I went there, but moving towards a more plant based diet. Out of frozen salmon, so added big bag to the weekly Walmart pickup list in progress. Will go inside only for the produce. Need snap peas, cabbage, tomatoes, bananas and citrus. And a big pomegranate for the parrots to share.
Kept 120 after day of very healthy food & CR/IF. So much want to get below 120, Soon! I will not fail. I shall overcome.
Tossed a pound of dry pinto beans in the crockpot. analysis compared to soy beans bad! 3 to 1, carbs carbs v protein, no fat. But only beans in the house & the soy will come from Amazon tomorrow.
Huge breakthrough in feral cat I've been feeding for a year. A few days ago, he let me scratch his neck while he was eating treats. I went in for a full back pet and Little Flash allowed it! It's my fervent wish to bring him inside to live with the two house cats. Never thought we'd progress to this point. I did catch him in a Haveaheart cage last year. It was a disaster. He escaped & hated me for weeks, but apparently all is forgotten. He finally took to the heated outdoor cat house hidden in the bushes.
Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 10 lbs to go!
Good job on the weight!
Your story about the feral cat makes me feel very hopeful! I leave cat food out in the winter, for anybody who might be passing by.
Need better meet, fish, vegggies - I think I’m relying on chicken nuggets too much hahaha
I am going to see if can find a funny pic for you.
i wonder, g-d willing, when i'm older, what my next pet will be!!!!!!!!!!
also, glad your cat is getting more comfortable with you xoxoxo
Actually ate dinner with the husband at 5. Salmon and mixed veggies, the Italian frozen blend. He had brown rice too. Always have big bag of frozen salmon fillets around.
Reading over & over that calories are more efficiently metabolised during the day.
Dang! I love eating nights.
The Switch author is crazy about macadamia nuts. Shocked to see the going rate is $20 a pound. So are they gold dusted or what?
Down to 120, but based upon past experience, it will not stick. Will bounce up before settling in.
Extremely impressed by book the Switch and considering radically changing my diet, but keeping with the calorie restriction and intermittent fasting. Much good science in this book. Discusses groups of ppl who have little or no cancer/cvs disease etc etc. Most diet based, but one group has genetic defects which mimic IF/CR.
Ordered sack of soy beans form Amazon, Walmart doesn't have them and I don't want to run around town and risk exposures. Ideal food! Cooked them before, but not for years. Will eat with vegetables , probably the mixed frozen ones with carrots, broccoli, cauliflower & zucchini.
Here is Rocky's new crush. Frankie is jealous!
Progress as of today: 14 lbs lost so far, only 10 lbs to go!
My boys!
Front yard!
managed to catch market lows. made a tidy profit and purchased 10 more acres for a wildlife sanctuary in Colorado. They care for all kinds of big cats, bears, wolves etc. they are in a lease to own agreement for 10K acres. About 80% paid for already.
Starving. fasted until 3PM and shoved a few ravioli in my mouth while fixing the husband's diner plate.
I am beside myself! DOW way the hell up based upon news of promising Covid vaccine. Sold maybe 110K premarket, mostly VTI (total market ETF), some cruise lines and air lines.
BUT! Want to sell more and can't log on to any of 3 accounts: TD, Vanguard & Merrill. Circuits overloaded. Big sell off! Oh, well. At least I got some trades in. Usually those big pops don't last long.
Weght not dropping & I have been so good on IF and CR. hopefully soon!
Progress as of today: 13.4 lbs lost so far, only 10.6 lbs to go!
next, i think you win for cutest pets. you can be my pigs do NOT do this. they are too males and both too concerned with dominance to actually show much love at all. ah well.! One pig is dominant and chases the other...and the other one runs from the one that chases it. there is no "let's just rest on each other and show some love." NO NO NO.
Holding steady, still hoping to break 120. Could be worse! Soon!
Progress as of today: 13.4 lbs lost so far, only 10.6 lbs to go!
Testing to see if these will upload .
So sometimes the GIFs work and sometimes not. The car should bounce! Lost new post! Testing gifs to see which upload.
the Good Morning ones did, maybe they were smaller files?
Have things to do, will edit later.
Progress as of today: 13.8 lbs lost so far, only 10.2 lbs to go!
Look, HoP! found very interesting ebook at Brooklyn Library. Bogged down by lots of cellular biochemistry, but fascinating. Starts with bacteriam found on Easter Island, 1960s, that killed other bacteria, fungi and even certain cancer cells. Extended life span and promoted health in test subjects. Discussed on longevity forums and sold off shore etc. Few physicians would write for it, but this one in Queens does & must be pocketing a tidy sum. Expensive office visits and he sells a few pills at a time. I think the book is going to say one can accomplish the same effect with calorie restriction and IF. the med can have serious side effects. the pic is the physician in Queens who sells it.
Big drop on scale today, but fairly certain it won't stick. Often see this quick up 2 or down 2 which autocorrects a day or so later. I am most eager to see the 117 I was when we moved here in the summer of 2011. Then down from there.
Got a few good IF type books from the Brooklyn Library and more on hold. Bought the 3 most popular titles. Love that Library! Get many ebooks there, They offer out of state cards for $50 a year and saved me a small fortune. Time was I never thought I could overcome my lifelong love of print books, but it is done. Have bookshelves in nearly every room, some great big carved glass doored Victorian ones, but do most reading in ipad now. Easy to use the bikes and treadmill with iPad.
So did mine! And she lived to be 103!
i think that of ANYONE who has used DD since i have been here which is under but close to 15 years, you may win the award of losing weight the fastest. there's been a couple others, but not many. most of us here are slow losers. and that is OK. there's one woman who i miss right now, that was sick and lost weight due to being sick...and i do hope she is alright now.
Are you a member of the brooklyn library bc you signed up online? i forget how it works? i think that anyone in NYS can be a member of certain libraries. Though, i think in Queens, you have to live in queens to be a queens library card holder. In NYC, i have a library card too...i forgot the rules, i'm def not looking them up either!
Used to get ebooks from local library, but wait list is forever. I always wished they charged a dollar or so and bought more licenses. They do that for print books and will purchase additional copies.
I know so many ppl that can lose a pound a week with the calorie restriction and the exercise I am doing. My sisters and mom have done so as well as many of my former coworkers. I am nothing special in that category. My advantages may be I am not all that into food. Hate cooking and restaurants. Also I have always exercised, even when I was 110 pds or less. Used to jog at the university. Used to walk all over the place, long walks to the grocery store with a backpack.
Been
Dang, the Brooklyn Libary is weird! Was looking for IF books and put holds on a few.
so they pop up with these "similar" titles available now. Really?
Been loooking at kombucha recipe s and the scoby makes me want to puke. Weight stable. Ate between 6 & 10 PM last night. Maybe 900 Cals. Maybe more.
Super excited about the election! It's gonna be a long nite. May switch back and forth between CNN and my ER binge. On the final season, 15, and show is going to hell in a hand basket. Too many good characters left and I don't like the new ones. Still want to see the very end.
Progress as of today: 12 lbs lost so far, only 12 lbs to go!
anyways, let's see how the election holds out.
i will find out results when i wake up...i told my french friend to text me since they are ahead 6 hours ....
Power keeps going out!windy! Dang! tried to post funny pic and deleted day's entry.
will try pic again. maybe even 2.
HoP, they keep sending me GP pics. lol
Progress as of today: 11.6 lbs lost so far, only 12.4 lbs to go!
i love your other photos here, thanks for sharing.
if you can find a health food store by you, they will most prob be sold there. i've looked on amazon in the past and it's very expensive to buy kombucha that way.
it's amazing these centurions. I've watched interviews with them and similar to what you say....most of all, you should see how these people live...so active...there's a man that was around 90-100 that used to visit his younger wife everyday, walking at least a mile there and then back, just to see her (she was in assisted living).
Yep! Fascinating! Some of the guys in Sardinia were 107 and walking miles over rugged terrain to herd their sheep

i like your soy bean plan with veggies. they do have tons of protein. make sure to get in a little fat, like, stir-fry with a little olive oil or any oil you like. you need a little fat or your hair and stuff will eventually become brittle (i have that experience in my last year of college to prove that it will mess up your hair/skin)!
Yeah, thanks for the reminder. My diet is low in fat, especially since I’m eliminating the blue cheese. Should have bought a bag of avocados
Horn_of_plenty on 11/14/2020:
oh yes, spices will help that cabbage stir fry. use real oil, it only makes it healthier and won't add more than 50-100 calories to it...usually. just add like up to 2 tbsp of oil for the entire bag of slaw. also a little salt will help, pepper, and garlic as you suggested. will make it out of this world.
the whole meal looks a lot more appealing than the shakes or just pickles. way to go on a healthy approach. remember to season, use spices, olive oil...your meal will be much more tasty.
thank you for sharing a pic of your cooking. nice job on totally delving into veggies.
Will definitely lube/spice that slaw!
Horn_of_plenty on 11/14/2020:
oh, pretty plate!..the blue and white design is really cute.
From the clearance aisle at Walmart. 50 cents. All my dishes are mismatched
Horn_of_plenty on 11/14/2020:
i need to go back to my crockpot...it's taken some time off for a few months.
My most used cooker in the kitchen, next to the microwave. My beautiful turquoise 1950s repro stove just sits there looking pretty.
Horn_of_plenty on 11/14/2020:
I may give in...and try to do some more bean dishes myself. i used to not feel full when eating beans and soy...but maybe i can do it now...maybe before i was too low on the fat too and that's why i couldn't feel satisfied. anyways, just like everyone, it's boring to always eat the same foods...i need to do more research :) for some good foods to cook in the crockpot this winter. last year i tried corned beef...so good.
grannyannie on 11/15/2020:
You could try soy sauce in your stir frys. Needs some kind of flavouring. A bit of chili powder maybe?
Excellent suggestions! I’m all over them!

Mediteranean diets are very healthy and they have a long life expectancy.
