Hello, girls!

Not really proud of myself again, I had chocolates last night so I'm guessing around 2200 kcals. I had tennis and a powerful HidroPower class though. Badminton not, because in the meantime I received dreadful news about the zone where I live. Watch these, this is not normal! The climate change is affecting everyone, but Lisbon has never experienced such thing: http://tv1.rtp.pt/noticias/?t=Imagens-de-videoamadores-sobre-o-temporal.rtp&headline=20&visual=9&article=437587&tm=8

I'm leaving for town! Have a nice day! :-)

I selected some documentary movies for you, if you have the time and interest to watch them online for free!:

10 Things You Need to Know About Losing Weight:
In this programme, medical journalist Michael Mosley investigates the latest scientific breakthroughs in slimming, uncovering ten of the simplest ways you can shed those pounds.

Food Inc.
About the production of food.

The Beautiful Truth:
It has been said that more people live off cancer than die from it. The Beautiful Truth is a movie that can put a stop to this travesty. Here is a very practical guide to the intensive nutritional treatment of cancer and other life-threatening diseases that many would consider to have been impossible to obtain.

THIN is the centerpiece of a multi-faceted campaign designed to explore issues surrounding body image and eating disorders.

The Future of Food:
The Future of Food offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade.

Super Size Me is an Academy Award-nominated 2004 documentary film, directed by and starring Morgan Spurlock, an American independent filmmaker. It follows a 30-day time period (February 2003) during which Spurlock subsists exclusively on McDonald's fast food and stops exercising regularly.

Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days is an independent documentary film that chronicles six Americans with diabetes who switch to a diet consisting entirely of vegan, organic, uncooked food in order to reverse disease without pharmaceutical medication.
The six are challenged to give up meat, dairy, sugar, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, soda, junk food, fast food, processed food, packaged food, and even cooked food for 30 days.

The Body follows the emotional journeys of ethnic minorities desperate to change their bodies, as well as showing incredible surgery including pioneering limb lengthening procedures.

When Food Kills:
About food allergies.

The Truth about Vitamins:
So what are the facts about vitamins?

+1 about exercising:

Marathon Challenge:

How do you run 26.2 miles if you have trouble making it around the block? With good coaching, discipline, and lots of group support, as NOVA shows when it follows 13 generally sedentary people through a training regimen designed to prepare them for an ultimate test of stamina and endurance. Created in cooperation with the Boston Athletic Association®, which granted NOVA unprecedented access to the 111th Boston Marathon®, and Tufts University, “Marathon Challenge” takes viewers on a unique adventure inside the human body, tracking the physiological changes that exercise can bring about..

Former Olympian and three-time Boston Marathon winner Uta Pippig offers advice and inspiration to NOVA’s runners throughout their training. And veteran Tufts University coach Donald Megerle guides them week-by-week through an onslaught of physical and psychological challenges. NOVA’s runners range in age from 22 to 60, and they come to the endeavor with a wide range of medical histories and backgrounds. They share one thing in common: none has ever run a marathon before.

Team NOVA includes Betsey, a hospital administrator who became substantially overweight while recovering from surgery; Jonathan, a hard-charging CEO and father of five whose marriage is breaking apart; Sama, a reformed smoker mourning the recent death of her mother to a hit-and-run driver; Larry, a social worker and 14-year survivor of a serious heart attack; Xenia, a woman turning 40 and struggling with being an “aging sedentary physician”; and Steve, a Harley-riding former NFL linebacker who sees the marathon as a novel challenge for someone used to running only a few yards before tackling an opponent.

Progress as of today: 147 lbs lost so far, only 34.2 lbs to go!

I've actually seen Super Size Me. Very interesting program. My dghtr won't eat there anymore becus of it (not that we ever went there alot - mostly for the cheap ice cream cones in the summer).I tried to watch your local video, but I clearly don't know what I'm doing becus I couldn't locate it... I'm sure it's operator error becus I can't find half of the links people post!! ;c) Have a great weekend!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 04/30/2011:
I've seen "super size me," too! just a reminder, 2200 calories will not kill you! so, don't worry about that, it won't cause weight gain unless, perhaps, you ate it everyday...but even so, it would take a long time to gain weight since 2200 is still pretty normal. and who knows, your body might have burned it all that day...you did exercise a lot!

biscottibody59 on 04/30/2011:
I watched that news link--quite something! It reminds me of an ice pellet storm (it looked like it had snowed and wreaked havoc on the roads) we got here a few years ago. It was late April and it was unusual because we normally don't get ice pellets and definitely not so late.

biscottibody59 on 04/30/2011:
I looove the teenager comment--just cracks me up:-) Enjoy your weekend and I hope your man finds a job soon--does he get unemployment benefits until then?

Hang in there and try to keep up your food and exercise routines as well as you can!

moogy on 04/30/2011:
I hope you have a good week Kathy, I am sure that you will make up for the chocolates:)

Good morning, Girlies!

We had a nice evening at the sushi buffet yesterday. He likes my new hairdo! Yuppeeyay.

We ate a loooot, grilled shrimps, sushi, grilled zucchini and ... yay, sesame ice cream (I had 3 balls of ice-cream, aaaahhh ). We don't know when is the next date for any sushi bars, as my man received sad news, the company is going to close, declared insolvency and it's already in the hands of the state attorney. He won't receive his salary this month, so we have to give up on restaurants and stuff, again. I'm doing fine without going to restaurants anyway, I'm just sad because I wanted to buy some clothes in Hungary. But then, I will try to save some cash for a piece or two.

I ate a lot so I had to sleep without the cover sheet, my body was burning... then I had tummy ache when I woke up to go to tennis. I was considering staying at home, then re-considering tennis, then again and again, like 5 times of "going/not going" but then of course tennis won, I just had a pro-digest tea and was hoping that the tea, together with 30-min bus ride will help on the tummy ache and it did. I felt great and the individual class was perfect. Didn't make it to BodyBalance though, but I still have HidroPower and badminton tonight.

Today's menu:

06H00 - tea w/ a very small slice of prokorn bread (50 kcal)

10H00 - tea w/ a whole grain bun (300 kcal)

11H00 - an apple (100 kcal)

12H00 - tuna ao natural, w/ salad, a 0% fat jelly, some coffee (the real deal) w/ milk (500 kcal)

15H00 - a tangerine (50 kcal)

17H00 - an apple (100 kcal)

18H00 - LF milk w/ coffee, some puffed rice (100 kcal)

22H00 - soup, a slice of prokorn bread w/ LF soy margarine and two slices of lean turkey ham, a banana and a soy yogurt (600 kcal)

Grand total: 1800 kcal

Progress as of today: 147 lbs lost so far, only 34.2 lbs to go!

Yes - GO is the best answer! I have been answering not go too often lately! I am gonna go go go for my exercise in the coming weeks. So sorry about man's job. I hope he can find other work vry soon and this will be a temporary situation.

So sorry to hear your man's company is closing... Great job going to tennis though, your motivation and dedication to exercise is inspiring! Have a great day!!

Hi KathyBlue- I'm answering your question re: Singapore. I can see by your food preferences that you would find many of your favorite foods here. Lots of fish, prawn, vegetables & fruits. As fas as fast foods- Thai is good but lots of not so good Chinese food. Not alot of diet soda but I guess that's not the end of the world. It looks like you are also a public transportation person- same here- bus taxi & lots of walking. Congratulations on your amazing weight loss!

chidogs on 04/29/2011:
I will be back once I get my head together over this rental house mess and the person who vandalized my childhood home. I still have a lot of rage going on. So I have just enough self control to control the anger, but not enough to control the food urges too. Baby steps. I am working on it. Miss you too, but I do check in every few days.

Umpqua on 04/29/2011:
Sorry to hear about your BF's job. Sesame ice cream sounds interesting, never seen that here!

YellowDress on 04/29/2011:

So, what you were worrying about really happened. I am so sorry about your man losing his job. You amaze me, anyone else I know who felt sick would just stay in bed but not you!!!! You are a gem:)

hollybelle on 04/29/2011:
Just saw your haircut. It is cute! You'll so much appreciate it after workouts, etc. A real time-saver - short hair!

~Moody~ on 04/29/2011:
So sorry about your mans job loss...I hope he finds something else soon..

Dinner sounded delicious!! I'm just sorry your tummy paid for it, but glad you felt well enough to go to tennis..I know how much it means to you!

Good morning, Girlies!

Yes, I'm just like this, I decided to get my hair cut, I just called my hairdresser who's 10 meters away from here (workplace) and I went there during lunchtime. Efficiency, quickness! Glad you liked it. My man calls me Padme. Dunno why, I don't have those "lateral wheels" she had in the movie.

Yesterday we had a great hidro class, and badminton rocked. The chinese dude's back, I was really happy to see him around again. He had to skip 2 months because of an injury.

The day ended up around 2100 kcals which is very cool, with more than 3 hours of exercise in. Definitely, I'm proud of myself.

Today's menu:

06H00 - a whole grain bun w/ soy margarine and turkey ham, LF milk w/ coffee and an almond egg covered w/ chocolate (just a small piece, without added sugar) - 450 kcal

I received a pack of these without added sugar (the person who gave me said they were healthy, LOL, huge b***sh*t but we can't blame average people!), so now I have it on the table and I decided to grab one before tennis. Around 40 kcals each, and if I have one right before I leave home, it doesn't bring the risk to have a second helping!!

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee 20% - 50 kcal

11H00 - an apple (50 kcal)

12H30 - grilled fish with veggies, a LF vanille pudding dessert and an apple (550 kcal)

14H00 - vanille pudding leftover (100 kcal), some cookies (200 kcal)

Grand total: 1400 kcal

WOW, I cancelled BodyPump for today (I've had an awesome tennis class), because my body asks for a break. In the meantime my man invited me to the sushi bar, as he really needs some moral support. So I'm foreseeing some 2400 kcals for today.

Progress as of today: 147 lbs lost so far, only 34.2 lbs to go!

Good morning, Girlies! :-)

I'm still all broken from yesterday's BodyPump. Susana was inspired, LOL... We should have foreseen this, when she arrived all good mooded and asked: "You guys have been eating a loooot for the last four days, right??? We have to woooork harder to get that extra fat off, so we have this old CD here....." and she made a strong mixture of recent and older BodyPump exercises. You know the feeling when the sweat is running from your neck, through your shoulders and arms...? Well, what a great feeling of accomplishment it is! Then I went home, had my soup and discovered that MIL put some pasta in the soup this time (GRRRRRRRR), so I had to update my calories to 1600, which is still a beautiful number so I'm really content.

Today morning the bus appeared late AGAIN. Yesterday was just the same. 10 minutes is enough to keep me nervous during the whole trip, and to arrive late from tennis. I really hate to arrive late from exercise. Workplace, no problem, but late from (p)leasure/meeting friends???? No way! I questioned the bus driver, he didn't know nothin', as usual. So, a formal complaint is being written as we speak, lol... Anyway, the individual tennis was great, and I skipped BodyBalance today because I have to go to the hairdresser's today (beauty comes first, LOL) and as I leave around 6h15 PM to HydroPower, I had to arrive to work earlier. Today's a badminton day also, so skipping BodyBalance doesn't really do any harm, though I'd liked to go of course.

I'm so anxious about the haircut, I decided the radical, that you girls unanimously picked out: Natalie Portman's. And yes, if it doesn't work out, it will grow longer by the time, who cares... :-P

And... drums, please, my new hairstyle:

And here's a photo from Monday:

Today's menu:

06H00 - a half whole grain bun w/ soy butter and 2 slices of turkey meat, paprika, LF milk w/ LF cocoa powder, a LF yogurt (400 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (50 kcal)

11H00 - an orange (50 kcal)

12H30 - cooked white rice, w/ grilled salmon, Sveltesse LF yogurt, "leite creme" (600 kcal)

16H30 - whole grain semolina leftovers w/ a cup of coffee (400 kcal)

18H00 - an energy bar and a LF yogurt (150 kcal)

23H30 - veggie soup (200 kcal)

Grand total: 1900 kcal

Progress as of today: 147 lbs lost so far, only 34.2 lbs to go!

YellowDress on 04/27/2011:
Great news! I guess you're exercising every day! It's still cloudy today and it makes me feel depressed:( When will sunny days come to my city?? Wonderful photo!Nice to see a real spring weather!! And thanks for the recipe;)

hollybelle on 04/27/2011:
Oh yes, short hair is the way to go. I have worn mine short for many years. I do not like spending time fixing, etc. Wash and go is the thing = more time for fun. Good luck. I'll bet you'll like it - the thing I find most helpful to give the short hair "personality" is the right products. You are really attacking with the exercise the last few days = you certainly meant it when you said your motivation was baaaackkkk! YAY!

sweetpea1977 on 04/27/2011:
Kat, a short haircut will be perfect for both your beautiful face and active lifestyle! You almost always have it pulled back in your photos so its easy to picture you with cute pixie like cut! I cant wait to see your new 'do! :) So exciting!!!

thisisit on 04/27/2011:
Kat, nope, can't leave work for later sometimes. A lot of what I do is time-sensitive. An entire claim (case) can be decided in either party's favor based on whether papers were filed or served on time or not. I still have a full day's work ahead of me on this case but nothing nearly so bad as 15 hours. Plus, screw 'em, I did what I was told to do. I just wish I had gotten more sleep.

Radical changes are great sometimes. I once went from a longer cut to a bob. It was great! And look of all the hair weight you will lose ;) lol.

Looking excellent. The view behind me makes me want to visit you now.

Oh, my hairstylist is Brazilian so he taught me two words in Portuguese. No and hand. He said no is nao and hand is maom (?). Is that right?

I can't wait until I write my first post in Portuguese (with an English translation).

Anyway, have a great day, great cut, and can't wait to see your pics.

Happiness is a how; not a what. A talent, not an object. - Hermann Hesse

Good morning, Girlies!

I didn't update yesterday night because we arrived home around 10h30 pm from dinner with friends. I managed 1500 kcals for yesterday, which is awesome! My mood is much better - ok, tennis also helped, LOL. Can't wait for BodyPump in the evening, it's so good to get back on track!

By the way, if you like Hermann Hesse's quotes, I strongly recommend you read one of his books, Demian: http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/Demian-Hermann-Hesse/9780060931919?b=-3&t=-26#Bibliographicdata-26

Today's menu:

06H00 - half whole grain bread w/ LF soy margarine, 2 slices of turkey ham, paprika and a cup of LF milk w/ soluble cereals (400 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ 20% coffee (50 kcal)

12H30 - carrot soup, squid in tomato sauce (from a tin) w/ a TBSP of white cooked rice and an apple (450 kcal)

GUUUUUUUUUURLS, I need your advice here... Seriously, I hate my hair. I want something short, it would be great for spring/summer and for exercise (less trouble washing it!). What do you think about these:

Great quote~Thanks for sharing..I'll check him out soon.

Personally, I like Natalie Portmans hair..I couldn't ever wear anything that short, my hair is naturally curly and I look like a poodle..but I think it's very cute..and would be so nice for summer!!

Great job on the calories!!

thisisit on 04/26/2011:
I like pixie cuts very rarely. They look like easy maintenance but actually, are not. I've found that the shorter the hair, the more upkeep it requires. You will need to be trimming it once a month and possibly using a whole lot of product to get it to stay so unfrizzy. BUT, beauty knows no pain. I like Natalie's cut.

lolla on 04/26/2011:
I love Herman Hesse's books too, I used to read them when I was a teenager. They are beautiful. Strenght vibes I send your way!

I think short hair would look awesome on you and frame that beautiful face of yours!!! ;)

Good morning, Girlies!

New week, new determinations. I swore myself that I wouldn't eat desserts yesterday - well, I did of course. Where's my willpower from 2010? Then I explained my man that I had problems. I explained everything, the confusion in my mind with Life, Universe and Everything. Do you think he was capable to understand me? He's just a man.

Last day of the 4-day holiday. I was abruptedly woken up by a colleague of mine at 7 AM, so I had begin my week working. Dang. I really hate this. I'm determined to fix my day though, and go to Decathlon today to buy some anti-slipping socks for home Yoga. I wanted to buy weights as well but they seem exageratedly expensive (11 euros 2x2,2 lbs) I think I'm going to the beach, and fill two 16 fl.oz. bottles with sand and I have my 2x1 kg (2,2 lbs) weights for free. Hehehe...

UPDATE at 5 PM:

Thank you so much for your support, girls!  You bring tears (of love) in my eyes, really. I proudly report that I'm back on track today, I feel great and I feel the willpower creep and crawl back to my body. Today I had an apple (50 kcal) for breakfast. Then we went to Decathlon, I bought a pair of socks and we tried to choose a tent but haven't been able to make a decision yet. There are so many tents nowadays!!! They have tents with 1 room, 2 rooms, 1 room + extra space for luggage, then tents with lateral windows for hot weather, tents with more space to stay inside on rainier days, tents to assemble in 2 secs, 5 secs, 1 sec... LOL! etc. etc...

I had half a wrap with chicken there in Decathlon (200 kcal), then we went to IKEA to have lunch. Had a soup with whole wheat bread (black Swedish bread) and some pasta salad (800 kcal). I had a coffee w/ semi-skimmed milk later (100 kcal). We walked a lot and now we're heading to town to meet some friends, have dinner and walk some more. I've already packed my backpack for tomorrow (tennis + BodyPump, OHHH YEEEEEAH!).

Veggie soup + fruit salad (350 kcal)

Grand total: 1500 kcal

Progress as of today: 147 lbs lost so far, only 34.2 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 04/25/2011:
Good idea on the sand in bottles for weights. About where is your willpower from 2010.....if you are talking about eating desserts yesterday - you are supposed to have desserts on holidays if you like them. Not having any would be unrealistic, but remember, it takes about 48 hours to get the sugar cravaae out of our system once we eat sugar. You might try MAKING yourself not have sugar for only 2 days and the crave should get better. Then the next time you want to break over to sugar.....remember it takes 2 days to get rid of it again. You can do this - you have come too far. You are within 34 lbs of your goal, girl = you have this!! Kathy == you have made monumental changes in your life by losing weight. Those type of changes don't come without some psychological changes as well, I suspect that is where your confusion about life, the universe, etc. are coming from. Make sure you get support for that, too. Changing yourself on the outside is the beginning. It also changes other things we don't count on - how we think about ourselves, our relationships, how others relate to us.......it's important to prepare for those changes, too. Love,Holly

loveray on 04/25/2011:
cute page!! i guess he is a "real man" :) i know that sometimes its hard when you lose momentum on your journey, but rest in knowing that it is there!! you can do this. i hope that you have a wonderful week and feel that power that we know you have! xoxo

V on 04/25/2011:
Girl you are gonna have to dig deep to find that passion...It's there so don't stress this and don't worry about your man not understanding, maybe some day he will get it, but in the meantime you have us for 100% support and you have this Kat, keep your eyes on the prize!!

getmebackto150 on 04/25/2011:

You are a great inspiration and so dedicated to a healthy lifestyle. I know you're still moving in the right direction and will see results again soon!

I love your idea of recycling water bottles into hand weights. Very resourceful!

Umpqua is right. You have accomplished so much in so little time and are a huge inspiration to everyone here. Go back and read your old entries and I bet you will get your motivation back! :-)

sweetpea1977 on 04/25/2011:
lol at your tent shopping adventure! We went shopping for tents, hiking packs, and sleeping bags at an outdoor store called REI and got overwhelmed with all the choices! :) We ended up with a simple 4 person tent (though it seems it was made for 4 dwarfs, lol) and sleeping bags that kept us warm in 0 degree temps (though we never see ourselves camping in temps that low!). We didnt get the hiking packs because just the look of them intimidated us (so big to carry, but not big enough to hold everything I would need, lol).

Love you!

getmebackto150 on 04/25/2011:
so glad to hear you are feeling better/more motivated today!!! Have a great evening with friends!

thisisit on 04/25/2011:
Kat, we all know how it is to stumble a little. You have come so so very far. You are my motivation. I get my willpower from you, whether it be your 2010 willpower or your 2011 one. Either way you have lost sixteen pounds since January (according to the little graph up top) and 147 lbs since you started but more than that has happened. You have made such amazing changes in your life. You truly turned your life upside down, inside out, and all around. It takes a lot of motivation and willpower to do so. Scroll down just a bit past this post and look at your picture. That is a beautiful, motivated woman with joy written on her face and determination in her posture. I am glad that you are feeling much better now. We all get those "down" days. The difference is what you do the next day. Each day not only depends on the former one but is in itself a new day, a new time, a new opportunity. And that opportunity had better not be more cake. If it is, I will kick your butt when I fly to Lisbon. ;)

We, as a team, are proud of you and each other and are here to be the spring that pushes you back up should you tumble, fall, or simply stumble.

moogy on 04/25/2011:
Good going Kathy, it is hard to pull oneself out of a downward spiral. I am glad that you are finding your own inspiration again. Camping means lots of walking usually, so that's great as well. You are right, men never get IT, the best they can do is look thoughtfully at you and nod with maybe the occasional platitude. They can't help it!!!!

biscottibody59 on 04/25/2011:
So are you 169 cm tall--about 5 ft 6 (ish) in (US)? Was just looking at your reply in the forum--5,54ft--just curious. It just looks from all your recent pics that you're pretty tall.

chidogs on 04/25/2011:
You will do it, because you have that iron will that will kick in pretty soon. I'm not a camping type but the tents do sound really cool! And I agree with what the others say about the men not getting it. They don't. Take care, hugs.

Good morning, Girlies!

It's the third of the 4-day holiday already... time flies when it comes to free time, all right.

I have to confess, we've been pigging out for two days. It's not restaurant, nor anything fast foods, etc. but we made some fun-home-cooking for Easter which consisted of pastel de nata (Portuguese cream cakes), caramell candies (I didn't have too much of these, coz I am not a fan) and MIL always makes a special Easter cake with several types of chouriços (sausages). Now this is something really divine, thank god she only does it once a year... So, I well tried to count calories but then I stopped and let it go. Today is the day when I said Enough! .. I've made two desserts already, one of them is OK (the cottage cheese cream w/ banana), but the other one (peanut struedel with apricot jam) is not. :-) Because today is the Easter lunch and dinner at Man's grandma's house. I hope the weather will allow us to escape between two meals, I really need to get some walk in.

Good news, remember the friend who has been missing? She's found by now, and she gave birth to a baby boy on the 19th. She got home on Saturday. I managed to talk to her yesterday, let them be blessed.

Well, have a perfect Sunday, girlies!

This is the before yoga photo yesterday:

Katlin!! Look at you! You look wonderful in this form fitting yoga outfit! You are doing well, girl! I must have missed the post about your missing friend. Glad shes back now and OK with the baby. I must say I probably would not have done so well with the caramel candies. I love caramel. Its good to endulge on a holiday. Special food that comes around once a year is a treat. It sounds like you have drawn the line and are back to good habits now. Enjoy your vacation days left. God bless.

Good morning, Girlies!

I'm doing fine today! The weather is no good for anything outside... very windy, rainy... So my relaxation of a 4-day weekend continues! Woke up late, washed the dishes, ate my breakfast (400 kcal), did some preparations for a healthy sweet experience, then did one hour Biggest Loser WeightLoss Yoga (very hard, very similar to BodyBalance exercises, and it's with Bob not Jillian!)

Now I'm going downstairs and will do a healthy lunch. :-)

I'm writing for work now, I came here, fast walking (20min) to grab a thing, then I'm heading back home (more 20 min fast walking).

Healthy lunch was whole flour mixed with an egg and some LF milk, stir fried with an apple and a pear. For two. :-) I guess around 300 kcals. Then I had some healthy sweet sampling too, let's say more 400 kcals.

Grand total: 1100 kcal

Fisihed up the day at... dunno!

Our weather here is abysmal! I am so ready for some fair weather here. I want to get my flowers in my pots on the porches, deck and patio. I always feel so accomplished when I get that done and it is kind of the first part of summer when the flowers get growing. I remember some of your pics on line had some beautiful flowers. There seem to be some wonderful gardens in portugal. Have a good 4 day weekend.

Good morning, Girlies!

First day off!  Time will fly of course, but the following four days will be out from workplace... YEEE... It's very cool and I really need some vacations. I think my latest overeating issues have strong connection with being at work, doing annoying stuff. Each time I go and get some treat, a piece of fruit or a yogurt, it's because while I'm outside to fetch them and eat them, I'm not in front of the PC... I recognized this, but is something really difficult to fight against.

Body Pump was really awesome yesterday evening. We were only a few, it's normal and expected right before bank holidays (and on "soccer derby" days - famous rivals' football games). Remember, I went to the gym 3 times a week in December, because most people didn't come. Among the excuses were Christmas, New Year, etc... I really love when I'm almost alone in the gym. First of all, I have the PT's attention who's always there to supervise, and then, very important aspect, I don't have to wait for the machines. There's nothing more annoying than an over-crowded gym anyway.

So, the plans for the following days. Today we have to clean around the house, and I want to do some shopping for Sunday's cakes for the usual family reunion. I'm going to do the following: Cottage Cheese Cream with Banana and Peanut Struedel with Apricot Jam. The cottage cheese cream is light, I'm going to share the recipe with you, precious girls, later. If it turns out to be any good! :-) I still have to stop at the workplace because I left something in the fridge... argh. Wonder when man wakes up... it's already almost 10 AM.

Here's a photo I received from my friend, after we went to the garden of Peace. You can see my man here!! :

Today's menu:

Oh well, lots of home-made food, among them sweets so it's better not to count calories today... I won't let myself down, coz in the past I did this on a daily basis, what today I know was an exception.

Progress as of today: 147 lbs lost so far, only 34.2 lbs to go!

hollybelle on 04/22/2011:

OMG Kathy you are looking incredible and incredibly beautiful!!!

Yup, David Bisbal makes my heart beat faster. He is so incredible!!! I found out yesterday that he has a girlfriend and a baby girl. It broke my heart and I am devastated but I think I will get over it soon. ::sigh:: ;) But I like the dark look too. I think I will be in something akin to a candy store when I get there. So much fun! And we can go touring together. That will be so exciting!!! Thank you for offering accommodations, you're so sweet. I will probably already have booked a hotel in each city though, since I will be using europeandestinations.com. Amazing site. Cheap and they plan it all for you. Oh, and, if all works out well, I might have some knack as to how to speak in Portuguese. I will be buying Rosetta Stone for my sister's birthday next month as she wants to learn Portuguese and I will be studying too. Maybe I can bug you to practice with me. LOL

Oh, by the way, how is the Iberian Peninsula in late September? Is it cold?

Have an awesome time.

Btw, is everyone here on fb?

Goodie morning, Girlies!

Last day of a short week... I came to work earlier today, I have lots of things to do. My body is so sore from yesterday night's PowerPool class. LOL, this will be killing when badminton continues... I didn't go to the gym today morning, I preferred to rest my body. This way, tonight it'll be well rested and fully prepared for BodyPump, yeeee...

One of my (two) best friends from childhood is pregnant and she wrote me today that the baby's genetic test didn't go well. Now she had to do an other one, and wait 3-4 weeks to get a result. She's 3 months over already, so 3-4 weeks from now they won't be able to decide whether they want to "keep it" or not... Very tough situation, from my point of view... Some parents, especially religious, don't think twice, because they have respect and faith in the ways the Lord chose for them. They accept the challenge. Me, on the technical side, try to see further, because I wouldn't want a kid depending on me forever, just because I won't be here forever for him/her, that's almost guaranteed. And would I want to leave him/her behind, depending on lousy health care systems and strangers... I don't think so. I am not loaded with money either, so I wouldn't be able to dedicate myself to a retarded (this is the scientific word?) child who would require all the attention possible. VERY TOUGH. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my words, I'm trying to be objective.

And then my other friend of mine who's expecting her first baby (boy) this week, had been hospitalized since last week... because the kid was diagnosed w/ arrhythmia (is a change in the regular beat of the heart it may skip a beat beat irregularly). I could talk to her last Friday, she said the exams were OK and she was expecting to be home on Monday. But... it's Thursday now and I've been trying but unable to talk to her since Friday. DANG, it's OK to live far away from family and friends WHEN everything's under control. Then Hell breaks lose when something happens to someone dear, and we suddenly come to understand the tremendous distance... I'm trying to tell myself that I wouldn't be able to do anything for her if I'd be present, but maybe a visit which sometimes is not well-seen by family, etc., some people don't like visits when they are in health conditions and don't feel good-looking, etc... but friends will be friends... I'm sure she wouldn't mind, but on the contrary.

BTW, I bought the pregancy test today. I'll let you know the results. I bought it finally (for TWELVE EUROS, geez!!) because yesterday night I wanted to eat a white bun with black beans inside, and I don't think it's normal, hahahahah...

UPDATE: negative!

Yesterday I could stay at 1700 kcals, WONDERFUUUUUUUUUUUUUL!!!!

Today's menu:

07H30 - a toasted white bun w/ soy margarine, a cup of LF milk and a LF yogurt (350 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ 20% coffee (50 kcal)

11H30 - half apple, an orange and some home-made "arroz doce" (sweet rice) (300 kcal)

12H30 - tomato soup (100 kcal) home-made chicken tikka-massala, LF yogurt (500 kcal)

16H30 - LF yogurt w/ an apple (200 kcal)

18H00 - some rye bread (100 kcal)

21H30 - veggie soup (200 kcal)

Grand total: 1800 kcal

Progress as of today: 147 lbs lost so far, only 34.2 lbs to go!

I know what it's like to not be local when "trouble" hits. But whatever you do, don't beat yourself up about it. Show your support via your calls & online & just let your friends know that you are with them in spirit. I've been in a boat very similar to your friends & I can tell you that ALOT of people run for the hills when they are needed the most. You just remain stedfast & true and it will NEVER be forgotten. In the meantime - remember to TAKE CARE OF YOU & don't let this sidetrack you. You are doing a GREAT job!

V on 04/21/2011:
Well now that you have eliminated a possible pregnancy, I am sure you are a bit relieved :) Sorry to hear about your friends :( I can speak on a personal level because my oldest brother is "mentally challenged"(Down's Syndrome) Back then it was considered an embarassment and a very big burden on parents...Her doc told her hide him away at a home til his death(they gave him a life expectancy of 5 years) My mom has devoted her life to him and he is a healthy man of 51yrs....That is quite the sacrifice to make and not everyone is that strong nor patient....I am sure she will make the best decision she can...Hey when are you leaving for your vacation to see your mom????

hollybelle on 04/21/2011:
Whew - I remember those days - pregnancy "scares" are nerve wracking! 1050 cals is low and it wasn't on purpose. I'm sue I'll "make up" for it LOL. That is seriously not my intention. I am preoccupied with work and personal issues and just didn't eat as much. You are a very compassionate friend. Your friends are lucky to have you in their lives. Just the fact that you want to go to your friends in crisis speaks volumes of who you are!

hollybelle on 04/21/2011:
P.S. Maybe your power pool soreness will wear off before badminton???? Sore = muscles are getting stronger (you know that). Think powerful! YAY!

Umpqua on 04/21/2011:
Well that's good that you can rule out pregnancy now. I'm sorry to hear of your friend's troubles, it's such a personal decision to get the screenings and then make a decision about how to proceed. I avoided a lot of those screenings just so I wouldn't have added stress during my pregnancies. The doctors were able to tell there were no major spinal problems via the ultrasounds, and that was enough assurance for me. Great job on your cals yesterday!

sweetpea1977 on 04/21/2011:
lol, yea, that comment was pretty funny!

Sorry about your friends's baby situations. Thats rough, especially when you cant be there for them in person. Just keep them in their thoughts and let them know that you're available if they need a shoulder to lean on.

Oh, I love the feeling of soreness, it means I did something right the day before!

I worked as a pediatric home health nurse for 9 yrs taking care of handicapped children, Musclular Distrophy, cerebral palsy, heart problems ect. It is terribly hard on the children and the parents. All of these kids would have died very quickly in a less sterile enviroment. They had vents and tubefeedings, lots of infections. In and out of the hospital. Makes it very hard for the parents to make a living or have a life. I am very lucky all my own children are healthy and I have healthy grandchildren. Hope your friends baby is healthy
