Oooohh well. Monday it is...

I've been to tennis already, individual training again, yeee. I had to go without breakfast and water because right after I had to do blood/urine exams at the clinic. The doc prescribed me these exams for January, and I completely forgot about them til yesterday. I found the paper in time so I rushed there today morning, 31th January .

We receive the payments on the last day of each month, which would be precisely today. Well, I haven't received my salary. Nor my colleagues. The finance department doesn't say a thing, and I have the bank account completely at ZERO's, as yesterday we went to do a major shopping with the rest of the money we had, coz I had a 10% discount coupon for the value of the buy, valid til yesterday. If I don't receive today, I don't know how do I come to work tomorrow, as my monthly ticket expires today as well. Tough break! It was rather embarrassing at the clinic, as I couldn't pay w/ the d@mned card... GRRR... So lucky I had some cash with me (I'm not used to have any!)...

Update: I borrowed money (hate this!!!) and now I have the monthly ticket. Huh...

Today's menu:

10H00 - mug of LF milk w/ coffee, 2 slices of small whole grain bread (300 kcal)

11H30 - an orange (50 kcal)

12H30 - veggie soup & veggies w/ grilled fish (600 kcal)

16H00 - 6 pcs roasted chestnuts (100 kcal), a LF yogurt (50 kcal)

23H30 - veggie soup, a LF yogurt (350 kcal)

Grand total: 1550 kcal

UPDATE: 28 February is the day - to visit the doctor, YAY!!!! I'd love to be under 190 by this date!  5 lbs in a month - I guess it's possible!

Good morning, Girls!

I had a good, Internet-free day yesterday, LOL. I've been to Pilates and aquafitness - then lunch in town w/ man and his friends, then walking around a bit. Came home afterwards, had a nice nap watching Rael Pilates 7 (preparation watching) and I felt asleep while watching Care Bears in Wonderland... LOL, I know, I'm 29 but this movie brings me back to childhood...

Food log of yesterday:

BF: slice of whole bread w/ LF soy margarine and 2 slices of ham, LF chocolate soy drink (400 kcal), chicken spinach w/ indian bread @indian restaurant (600 kcal), an apple, veggie soup, a plain LF yogurt (400 kcal) - 1400 kcal

Today's food log:

09H30 - 3 whole grain cookies (120 kcal) and hot tea

12H45 - feijoada "light" (by my mother in law: beans and lean pork meat, cooked) w/ salad. A light yogurt, two slices of home-made orange cake w/ nuts and almonds (900 kcal)

15H00 - a soy yogurt (sample given to me at the shopping mall, LOL... I love sampling new stuff!!!) 100 kcal

17H00 - an apple (50 kcal)

19H00 - veggie soup (280 kcal)

20H00 - 3 small slices of whole bread w/ 1 slice of LF cheese and LF soy margarine, w/ pickles

21H30 - a LF yogurt (40 kcal)

Grand total: 1900 kcal

Glad to hear from you! Sounds like you had a good day yesterday...Care Bears...yes it brings me back to my childhood too when Care Bears were the big thing. So, how does soy milk taste? I usually drink 2%. It tastes good and is low in in cals...sorta lol. But does soy milk taste like water and a little milk mixed together or does it actually have a good flavor? And I agree with shadetree you have done wonderful!

AHHHH... my diet has been going TERRIBLY since Christmas / New Year. Something has happened to me for sure - I miserably fail my 1400-1600 kcal limit in every second day, AT NIGHT... and I just know it the moment I put the food in my mouth and even then I am unable to resist. I need moral support, girls... I'm going fine with sports, exercise is not missing, but I have to maintain the calorie limit because if not, I won't be able to reach my next mini-goal in May! I want to be fabulous for my visit to Hungary! I want my friends and people stare at me, I don't want them to believe their eyes, as it's said... Now, how could I convince myself, too...?!

Today I went to the gym, great training. Badminton tonight, yeeee! :-)

Today's menu:

06H00 - a soy yogurt (100 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (120 kcal)

11H00 - an orange (80 kcal)

15H00 - a veggie soup (200 kcal), an orange (50 kcal) and a LF yogurt (50 kcal)

16H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (100 kcal)

THAAANKS A TON for the support, girls! :) I didn't explain well the situation: it's not really a snacking problem, it has to do with quantities and stuff. My choices are healthy, as standard. As I explained to Umqua, if I'd have to chose between vegetable soup and hot chocolate, I'd go for the vegetable soup, without blinking the eye... the problem is, I overeat the calorie limits and it makes me MAD.

Yesterday we finished the crépes I made the other day. I swore not to bake cakes,cookies nor fry crépes anymore, but it cannot be true. It's needed sometimes, and it's better for me to do it home, controlling ingredients, than buying from outside which we never do, thank god... :-) So I think I am overstressing the situation... :-( But... I confirm: I AM NOT PLANNING TO STOP...  I keep very determined and fully motivated to take this to the FINISH LINE and then stay there, as a WINNER FOR EVER!

Morning sweets, that's a tough one. When you are out of the zone finding a away back in is really hard. I've had the same experience. What about trying some possitive affirmations. It can really change your mindset. I sometimes repeat several times as I am walking to work a line that makes me feel good, such as 'I have done and am doing so well, I will carry on because it makes me feel so good'. You have lost a lot of weight already. You don't have far to go to reach your goal. Remember this is a life change forever, not just till you get smaller and then can eat whatever. When you eat that extra food are you really hungry or is it just that it tastes soooooooo good you can't resist? If it's just so good you can't resist...then get rid of the temptation. YOU CAN DO IT! ps...I think we are in the same boat...lol. I got to get rid of my ice cream EVERY night. Night time is a killer for a diet. There is no doubt that you will look HOTT on your visit to Hungary. YOU GOT THIS...YOU OWN IT!

Boy, do I ever understand the holiday food eating pattern. I know you'll get through this so don't be so hard on yourself. You've still been doing massive amounts of exercise so you don't haven't thrown everything out the window. You're still doing great and continue to be an inspiration to us all. Girl you have this! Just might have to change up a few of your foods, maybe you are getting a little bored, this may sound silly but even switching up the fruits and veggies will satisfy or quell your urge to overindulge...Come on Kat you only have a few more to go!!

I think you are doing great, but I know what you mean about the snacking, that's a tough one. And I know you want to stay on course and keep up that losing momentum! V has a good suggestion about changing up the foods. My hot chocolate trick works wonders for me at night. If I'm craving sweets I'll have a cup of hot chocolate (70 calories) or even 2 cups. It's better than blowing my calories on higher-ticket items like cake and cookies. Sometimes I'll just have chocolate mint tea or one of the sweeter teas (decaf) at night and that satisfies the craving. If you're craving salty snacks at night, there are solutions for that too. One of my favorite snacks for this is a piece of whole grain toast with a little peanut butter on it, hits the spot!

I think if you are generally hungry in the evening your body may need a few more calories. But they can be healthy calories and you can limit them without going overboard. Hope that helps!

You have lost a ton already so your friends will already be super-surprised by your new appearance. So, dont worry about that aspect of the situation.

V's suggestion of changing up your foods is a good one. Your taste buds might be getting bored so they are starting to crave the naughty things for some excitement.

Umpqua's healthy snack suggestions are great too!!

Come on Kat, you can do it. We all believe in you, so all you need to do is start believing in yourself again. :)

maybe pre portioning your food or only making enough for a small portion would help? I also find that keeping raw veggies on hand like grape tomatoes, pepper slices, etc, is great if I "need" somthing else to eat at night time... You are doing awesome! You can do this, look how far you have come!

Ditto for Umpqua's suggestion jof having a piece of wholegrain toast w/PNB. If you carefully measure the PNB to ONE level Tbl. it's a 200 cal. snack that fulfills some important requirements: it's filling, satisfies your craving for something rich yet it's not that high in calories.

I remember Umpqua saying once that she needs to go off track occasionally to maintain her sanity. I definitely feel the same. My problem was that I did it for 6 weeks with complete abandon and only the scale was able to turn around my mode of thinking.

Concentrate on your "before" photos to remind yourself where your desires will lead you, and they will!

It's hard when you kind of break over through Christmas to get back on track. It's positive that you are eating healthy foods and exercising. You have identified that you need to get the portions in a better range. You can do it. Meditate a bit right before meals and rein yourself in gradually. YOU CAN DO IT! Get in touch with your thinking, girlfriend. What might be going on subconsciencely with you?? Something, nothing?

I am thinking that with all this exersise and with all the extra muscle you have that your body may just be hungry. Maybe you could consider 1500 a good number to aim for. Just a suggestion, I know you want to lose weight as quickly as possible but you are doing so much activity I really think that your body might just be wanting more nutrition. Good luck.:)

I was thinking about your compaint about wanting bigger quantities of food. I pretty much solved that problem, craving something in my mouth to chew. I started on the cut up celery dipped in hummus trick. There must be at least 30 little sticks of celery from two stalks, so it takes 20 to 30 min. of chewing that keeps my mouth occupied. Part of my problem is that I used to smoke, to even tho I was finally able to quit 14 yrs. ago, I still have an oral fixation.

Another thingI lie to do is toeat a 100 Cal. bag of popcorn. That takes aawhile to eat too. I think I might expand andstart cutting up carrot sticks.

Good morning, Girlies! 

Had a great badminton yesterday, and I had a ride home, yeeeah... :-) Master Yoda took me home, with his wife and brother. It was so funny! Apparently, while the two brothers are on badminton training, the wife of the elder brother (aka M.Y.) is at an atellier, painting. Then M.Y. picks her up at 11 pm, when he leaves the training. It sounds soooo great, I mean, both entertain themselves with a hobby and the time schedules are franatic! He is 80+ yrs old, and the wife looks much younger. I don't know her age. She's Spanish, and they were joking about Portuguese men luring foreign women to Portugal (as my case and hers), "hunting" for foreign women... LOL... She wants to share healthy recipes with me, and wants to fix a date to make international healthy cousine (she cooks Spanish food and I bake Hungarian sweets, LOL)...

A colleague of mine came to try badminton yesterday - but I don't think she's going to stick to it. She got really really tired, whining how intense the training was and that she thought it would be milder, different. People tend to think badminton is a slow motion sport, but it's quite on the contrary. Constantly on the move, jumping, running... He didn't apologize, he didn't tell me why, nothing...  I didn't push the subject either.... I went to the pool today and had a great aquafitness class.

I played badminton when I was younger just having fun with friends in the back yard. You are right, it is an intense sport and you are moving a lot while playing. I tried to look u up on facebook but it came up with a ton of Kathy Blue's...lol. I didn't know which one you were so....what should I do?

My boyfriend's grandparents are from Hungary-- and I LOVE his grandmother's cooking! I don't know what anything is called-- but I can only imagine how delicious your Hungarian sweets will be :)

En effet, c'est une bonne idée de manger beaucoup de fruits.

Well, well, yesterday was no contribution to weight-loss, AGAIN. I'm very pissed, because portion control is obviously NOT WORKING lately... I wanted to surprise my stressed man, went home earlier and made pancakes (crépes). I used whole rye flour and skimmed milk, but it had eggs which I should avoid. And again, I couldn't stop after the first one, I had to eat FOUR... On the positive side, nothing unhealthy had been eaten.. it's just that, I'm down with the cold and I haven't been to tennis, so no exercise has been introduced and I felt an awful lot of guilt.

In addition today I went to tennis, freezing cold, wind, etc... and the dude (coach) didn't appear AGAIN. It's the second time he does this to me, and today there were two other girls for training... The security guy told me to give the training to them, but I refused. I'm PAYING (status: customer!), I'm not on the RECEIVER (status:employee) side... just imagine if something would happen, injuries of some sort... I don't want to be responsible for such thing... so, I played a bit with the girls, but it didn't satisfy me at all. I went and did a cross training on the treadmill, now that was veeeery satisfying.

Tonight I'm going to badminton. ALONE. Joana's car is at the mechanic's, she hopes it gets ready for Friday. Meanwhile, I have to gain courage and see how to get home at night, SAFELY, without a car. I brought my cheapest rackets so if I'm robbed, they take trash, ehhehehe. OK, no trash, they cost money and not a small amount but I have better ones at home.

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee & decaf (150 kcal)

Yikes sorry to hear about tennis! I agree you did the totally right thing by not training the other girls...that would have been bad if someone got hurt, and you're right you are paying not getting paid so you deserve your training that you pay for! Glad you were able to get some treadmill time in...sounds like you had a great workout =). I have problems with portion control all the time, and it's definitely harder when you're feeling a little under the weather. The good side is it was a nice treat you made for your man and you guys enjoyed it. Move onwards and "downwards" in your journey, yesterday is gone and today is a new day! Hope you have a great rest of yours and enjoy badminton later! ...PS - be careful coming home...get some pepper spray! lol it's not the rackets that would be the important thing if you were approached by robbers...it's YOU! Love ya!

I agree with Panda, it's not the rackets that are the most important so be careful. I hope your coach starts to be a bit more consitent, that's very annoying when you find the energy to get out and do your excersis and something else lets you down. Keep up the good work girl! :)

My gran told me that in almost any recipe you can replace half the sugar with apple juice (reduce the liquid required) and it makes it much healthier. Good tip :)

Well that sucks that your trainer didn't show up for tennis. What the heck? Does he get paid to teach? They oughta fire his butt unless he had a good reason for not being there and in that case, they should have replaced him. Sounds like you're going to have an interesting night at badminton and then finding a safe way home afterwards. Be careful!

LOL my husband hates shopping with me as well! He says I take too long and look at the labels too much. I tell him it's better to be informed about what I'm bringing into our house for us to put into our bodies, rather than spend the money and get home to find out it's not healthy. Thus my son is my "shopping buddy" and he's not old enough to complain yet =P. As for the potty training, we are going to "attempt" it, but I'm not expecting anything. I went and got him in his crib this morning and he had his diaper all the way pulled down so he is going through the "no clothes" stage anddddd that's another factor prompting us to try since I don't want him walking around pulling his diaper off and wetting everywhere lol. At least if he slowly learns to tell me he has to go it will make it easier.

I'm feeling better today. I made it to badminton yesterday, the new racket is AWESOME!!!! I woke up today morning but I decided not to go to the tennis training. My heart bled but I am unable to breathe well and I just didn't want to risk a throat problem in the cold (still 4 Celsius /39 F degs outside), breathing basically through the mouth with a blocked nose... . I don't have a fever and I feel well so I'm into gym if I can leave in time in the afternoon. I still want to make a soup later, because I ran out of veggie soup.

One of my badminton colleagues has given up badminton. She says she doesn't come anymore. That makes us two, and gives me a higher dependancy on my other colleague. The situation is just delicate as it is, because I got into badminton because Rita (the one who gave it up) told me she wouldn't mind taking me home, as my house is in her way anyway. On the other hand Joana lives elsewhere, completely opposite direction, but she was somehow volunteered to give me a ride from now on (Leo charm, you know... hehehe) . I told her I would pay, and I want to because gasoline is not cheap here...

Today's menu:

08H30 - a tea and a kiwi (30 kcal)

09H30 - LF milk w/ coffee (100 kcal)

11H00 - two kiwis (50 kcal)

12H30 - veggie soup (200 kcal), tuna (tin, natural) w/ cooked veggies (400 kcal), a LF yogurt and an orange (150 kcal)

19H30 - some meat, grilled w/ a plain LF yogurt and veggies (300 kcal)

21H00 - 4 pancakes (european, very light ones made w/ whole flour) 600 kcal

Grand total: 1850 kcal

About my weight-loss journey and goal update: I weigh 88 kg now. I want to be UNDER 80 KGs ( below 176 pounds) by May (visit to Hungary). Do you think it's something easy/hard to achieve? 3 and a half months left til then. I'm going to try and behave better, keeping the 1400-1600 kcal limit everyday.

I know that she has been in touch with you, I am pretty sure that it is happening when things are in Europe. We have never had any trouble sending stuff to the States or UK. Good morning, Girlies!

It's sooooo cold here... 4 Celsius (39.2 F) degs outside. Just imagine, we had 12 C (53 F) degs at home yesterday. We turned the gas heater on, and we could achieve a 2 Celsius (35,6 F) raise of temperature in 2 hours... wow... . This winter just NEVER ends. I've been living in Portugal for four years, and 2010 was the coldest year so far - we hadn't even had a heater before! I don't know if this is global warming, or my body because of the weight loss...?! But it's devastating.

My man entered in the system here at TP on Friday. So, I suppose he receives a phone call in the following days, for a job interview. There's an open job for French Validators. He has a reasonable French so let's see if he can grab the opportunity. Then I will feel finally relieved, that my efforts weren't in vain and I stay at the company for a good reason. This is a difficult situation, if my man would have a better position on the job market, I wouldn't do this for him. But, let's face it - he doesn't have it now. He placed his bets seven years ago in an area of constant development, he was secure it would work out and he wouldn't have the problem to find jobs further on - and he lost. Constructions are frozen because of the economical crisis, no one hires, and he wouldn't turn any younger (36 yrs now)... dice are not rolling now, and even if they will in the future, he won't have the age... DIFFICULT! Let's hope I can help him having a steady job here and stay for good.

V, you were right! The weather is cr@ppy again so I haven't had tennis - I had gym instead and it went OK! It tasted good to sweat out some of the flu. :-)

Oh great you are feeling better!! :) So are you guys going to be working at the same office? If so will you have the same hours?? Now as far as the weather goes, I totally understand where you are coming from as far as not being prepared for such chilly temps...It seems here in Florida, each year the winters arre a little/lot colder than the normal...In fact I think that is the case for everyone, Sweetpea didn't have a shovel too remove the snow because it rarely snows there, at least as much as they had a week back! I say that you and I should look on the bright side, at least we don't need shovels...YET! Haha Love you Kat,have a super day :)

This is a rough winter for us too, but I remember winters like this from my childhood so I don't think it's that abnormal. I can imagine if you haven't needed a heater though that it's a huge shock. I hope things work out for your guy with the job!

No I hate to say this Kat without signing papers at the post office there is really no way to track the package, let alone prove it exists :( I am sure some dishonest person at that Post office of yours has it :( Dishonest people really piss me off, make sure the next time you parcel out anything that is of value to get a tracking number of the package! Great news, I came down with a flu. I'm drinking a hot tea at the moment, and thinking about badminton tomorrow: is it cursed?? LOL. Anyway, I'm going to see what one can do with a flu + sports. IF I don't develop a fever.

Real great news is: I have a plane ticket to Hungary for May! 13-22, so I'll be w/ my mum when she celebrates her b-day (15th May). I told her to investigate how much does a week of tennis cost at the local tennis club. HEHEHE... I'm so addicted, sorry!

Thanks for your supportive comments yesterday. I guess it's lovely to go out w/ my man for a dinner. I don't like the periodicity though - it's too often. We should find a way to have fun and don't get stuffed like chickens in food industry... well, but it's our choice.

I talked him about my dilemma of badminton and the wish I formed yesterday in my entry. But then, he didn't show too much interest, and I completely understand why. For him, staying there for two hours is no fun. He's a hyperactive, have I told you this already?

I've been to the univ today, had 20 min running on the treadmill just to kill the feeling of guilt... Then I had a really exhausting Pilates, and couldn't stay for swimming because I felt really tired... I went to Lidl to buy soy yogurt (ended up spending a lot in cloths... LOL, I'm terrible but I needed new panties) then headed home, ate and went to bed. I fell asleep around 3 pm and woke up at 9 pm. LOL... at the end I needed it badly.

Today's menu:

12H00 - a banana

13H30 - veggie soup, 2 smaller slices of rye bread w/ soy margarine and a pepper, raw. A soy yogurt and an orange (800 kcal)

16H00 - whole toasts w/ light compote (red fruits) 200 kcal

17H00 - an orange and some pomelo (100 kcal)

Veggie soup recipe, my secret! :-) is really easy to make, my mother-in-law taught me. To avoid potatoes/carrots, you can use: pumpkin, zucchini or chayote (chuchu, pear squash) as a base. You put water, salt, an onion and the base ingredient(s) in a bowl, you cook them. Then in an other bowl you cook other veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, watercress, spinach, green beans, etc. with salt as well. Then you get a hand mixer, mix the base well (normally I take off some water into an other bowl and try to make it thick, if it's too thick I add some of the water I have taken earlier). When I have the base done, I add the other veggies and a very small amount of olive oil. This is a Portuguese vegetable soup, not broth, and it's 100% vegetable, potato-free. You can pass all the ingredients at once, that's called Creme Soup.

UPDATE: I'm rather sad now. As you know, it always depends on others if I go or not to badminton trainings, because I need a ride home. On Wednesday, one of the girls were sick, the other had the husband out of town and had to take care of the 1 yr-old kid... Of course they warned me only at 8.15 pm, so I've been fully entusiastic all day...

Today the same thing happened... I was all entusiastic to go to badminton, then the 1 yr-old got chicken-pox by the afternoon, and I received a call now (7h30 pm) that the other girl's car broke so... no badminton today. I'm so pissed I could cry.

And then, my man suggested to go to sushi because he desperately needs it, so now, in addition we eat out, after I had ingested 1700 calories today, 300 over my limit, I will have at least 700-1000 more tonight at the sushi.... OK, I had tennis, but... come on, I'm paying for the badminton, again, and I want to go so much!!! And he, he doesn't say: "OK, we go to sushi, I eat and then I go to badminton with you and then escort you home." ... It would be a big thing to ask for sure... at least from this man. So I won't even try, I suffer silently.... I've been VERY OVER my daily limit (1400 kcal) for days now, I feel failure and I'm so low on spirits. I haven't been to the gym either because I had tennis every morning, and I miss it so much, also!

He learned that if I'm happy, he has a better chance of being happy too! lol!
