Morning, Ladies!

I made 19 points yesterday - I just had to eat a pear before going to bed. I am unable to keep the calorie-free 3 hours before going to bed. I don't want to have nightmares.

Today the weather is crappy so I haven't had tennis. I had gym instead, 1,5 hours there... As a result of my phys eval, I have a plan now and today I got the chance to understand and begin this plan. I have to keep a certain heart rate during the exercises so I get a moderate-high level. I liked it. It just took so long to do all the exercises, 1,5 hours is a lot of time and I of course couldn't get to the company in time... I don't like to be late...

Today's menu:

06H10 - a LF yogurt w/ muesli (200 kcal)

09H30 - MF milk w/ coffee, a cookie (160 kcal)

13H30 - carrot soup and a natural yogurt w/ brownies (at the restaurant called Go Natural) (300 kcal)

14H00 - 3 plums (150 kcal)

16H00 - LF milk w/ decaf coffee and a lemon bio cookie (200 kcal)

20H00 - a chicken drumstick, cooked with veggies and the rest of the bio chocolate rice pudding I had in the fridge (350 kcal)

Grand total: 1400 kcal

Progress as of today: 114.1 lbs lost so far, only 72.1 lbs to go!

just42day on 11/09/2010:
I so admire all your exercise! You're so consistent and, not surprisingly, you continue to reap the rewards! Good for you. :)

tangalyn on 11/09/2010:
GREAT job with everything yesterday :) hope today goes just as good!! :)

selina on 11/09/2010:
Nice job on the exercise! How do you like the muesli?

I got 20 points yesterday!!!! 19 is also great!

V on 11/09/2010:
You did an outstanding job, don't let anyone tell ya different! LOL I was just telling Tange that i always fail miserably on Meatless Monday,I am such a carnivoire! LOl

sweetpea1977 on 11/09/2010:
Wow, awesome work on the exercise! Your body needed the extra calories near bedtime, so Im glad you gave in to that pear. At least it was a healthy bedtime snack. :)

hollybelle on 11/09/2010:
Wow you are doing great. I predict you will like gym - sounds like aerobic exercise with keeping the heart rate up. What a physical education you age getting, huh? Terrific! P.S. I don't advocate not eating before bedtime. I like a very small light snack of something that won't give me indigestion of course!

chidogs on 11/09/2010:
Goodness! I hope to work up to a long exercise time like that. Right now I can manage walking (like we did this weekend) for 30 minutes or so, and I am working on learning a complete Tai Chi routine, which is great slow movement. But you just go, girl! You are so good. :)

moogy on 11/09/2010:
I am always so impressed with the amount of exercise you do and with the enthusiasm with which you do it. Good for you Kathy.

hopingforhealth on 11/09/2010:
I hear you, I have such trouble with the three hours before bed thing. By the time I work out and cook dinner and eat it after work, it's practically bedtime!

Good morning, Ladies!

We were at a party all night. My friend made 38 on the 1st November and she invited us for a late celebration. It was lovely, hehe... I really like her way of trying to have healthy stuff on the table and in the fridge for the kids. Of course the kids were most interested in the chocolate cake, a little girl took out a number candle (there were two bigger candles, a 3 and an 8 on the top of 2 separated, small chocolate cakes) and licked the part that had been inside the cake, and when it was done she started to chew on the candle itself, LOLOLOLOL.... It was so funny, but I couldn't help myself remembering the video "Why are thin people not fat"... (link: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/why-are-thin-people-not-fat/ )

On food level: I ate toooo much. My portion problem appeared and I felt awful. I ate: bread, salad, fresh cheese, 3 slices of ham, roasted chestnuts and way many "pão com noz" which is a bread made with nuts and it has whole sugar and normal, white flour. These were OK though, nothing bad (only the portions, I should have eaten a SMALL dose of each but that didn't happen!). Then I ate -thank God and myself I behaved with the portions of these and ate a small amount... - mango mousse and lemon mousse she prepared (these both have condensed milk which is, as we know, huge fat and calorie stuff) and a very small slice of the b-day cake. (Then I went to the bathroom and vomited out because my stomach didn't like the sensation of the condensed milk, anyway.)
Today morning, the scale shows me: 216,3 lbs which is not funny at all! I'm going to wait til Tuesday to check it again and update if necessary. I'm full of gas and I really need to get on the toilet today. Let's hope for the best.

I'm going to have a cleaning day today, with lunch as my mother-in-law is responsible for Sunday's food.

Ahhh girls, I really need positive vibes here, I'm going down with my portion problem as I just cannot stop while I have food all over the table. It talks to me, all sweet and caring, and I really have to get my body responding back with a firm "NO, I feel OK and I want to get slimmer, I don't need more of you."

I'm VERY afraid of the wedding next week, and very afraid of Christmas and New Year's Eve. The problem is that when I'm unconfortable with something I can behave very ugly with other people. Normally, that reflects in my relationship... And I feel just unconfortable all the time on the family parties, diet only makes it worse. My man offered me a PSP (Playstation Portable) last Xmas so I am able to relax and go "offline" from food and people, til a certain point. After that the game pisses me off and I get angrier than before, lol. I only like Need for Speed (car racing) and some strategy games, and adventure games. Nowadays they don't make adventure games that worth playing. I only like adventure games where my character is an observer or an explorer but not a victim. Can you believe I 'm unable to see a movie with zombies, etc. where the main characters are struggling for their survival?! I get nervous and watching it doesn't give me any pleasure. Same happens with series like CSI , Law and Order... Love them! But I hate episodes where they are envolved somehow and their lives at stake. Violence neither, no thanks. That comes in the news all the time, no need to create any in fiction...

Today's menu:

10h00 - a soy yogurt with a pear (200 kcal)

12H30 - cooked veggies with a boiled chicken thigh and an Activia yogurt for dessert (450 kcal), roasted chestnuts and 2 sweet potatoes (350 kcal)

Total: 1000 kcal

Progress as of today: 114.1 lbs lost so far, only 72.1 lbs to go!

moogy on 11/07/2010:
I hope you are able to figure out a way to maneuver yourself around all these celebrations without doing yourself to much damage. I hope also that you are feeling better. You certainly didn't let your illness slow you down at the party!! LOL

moogy on 11/07/2010:
I just read your post. I get a high fibre bread that is also low gi and white. It's made at a local bakery, so I know it is good for me and not over processed. Perfect, I am not really a wholewheat bread girl either.

V on 11/07/2010:
Although we have different issues with food I can relate...You know that food that calls to you so nice and sweet??? Well those same foods say to me danger, stay away....There is a healthy balance between the two but i think getting to that point is more difficult than the weight loss process....If is not possible to stop yourself with the foods on the table that are not so healthy then you must avoid them for now. Maybe Christmas you will have it under control..It always impressed me that my super healthy super fit sister eats holiday meals on a small saucer, using a big plate for healthy fresh fruits and veggies, cheeses and such, the saucer doesn't get second helpings however the big plate is filled twice(usually not) and she has dessert too...Kathy you have come so far and i know you will get this together!!! We both can ;)

moogy on 11/07/2010:
I have just logged back on and have seen the photo's. You are like a new woman, except for those, so cute cheeks!!! Well done Kathy.

Hello girls! I take your advice and rest during the next two days. Basically, weekend. Then, we'll see. I'll be having a rest from tennis etc. from next Wed to Sun, as I'm going to be abroad.

I'm still having a sore throat so I'm not going to do Pilates today. Will do on Tuesday.

Yesterday, sad as it is, I finished around 2500 kcals. I was experiencing a major binge, maybe triggered by the medicines I took for the sore throat and the leg ache. I'm not weeping over it. I won't get up on the scale today though, and I promise myself and you that I'm going to do better than this in the future - starting: TODAY.

Going to be a : half working, half fun day. Me and my man + some friends were invited to my friend/colleague's house to eat roasted chestnuts (this season's typical Portuguese food) with roasted sweet potatoes to celebrate her B-day.

07H30 - two slices of corn bread toast w/ LF soy margarine and LF cheese, hot milk (400 kcal)

11H00 - a smaller mango (150 kcal)

13H30 - ???

My cats Fritz and Orion (still have a 3rd, Osiris). I'm not sure if it's the very first time I'm posting this one...?:

Remembering Shania Twain today (

video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMB1RpGdb-Y ):

I don't wanna wear that
It only makes me look fat
Time to tone my thighs-- gotta lose another size, yeah!
What a way to wanna be

Exfoliate--look great!
Feel guilty 'bout what you ate
You're buyin' all the books--
to learn the latest looks, yeah
What a way to wanna be

We like to buy, we like to spend,
to keep up with the latest trend
But we don't get no satisfaction
living like a slave to fashion
No more thinking for yourself,
just get it off a shelf

Oh--oh, why be perfect--no--oh,
it's not worth it
Don't be so obsessed--c'mon give it a rest
This is not some contest--just do your best
'Cause no--oh body's perfect!
What a way to wanna be

Moisturize, exercise, erase the
rings around your eyes
Cover what you can,
get a Coppertone tan, yeah
What a way to wanna be!

Stabilize the mood you're in--
you're back on diet food again
Bigger is the best, but only
in the chest, yeah!
What a way to wanna be

We like to buy, we like to spend,
to keep up with the latest trend
But we don't get no satisfaction
living like a slave to fashion
No more thinking for yourself,
just get it off a shelf

[Repeat Chorus]

It's so very--unnecessary
Yeah, how insane--to be so vain
It's so synthetic--I just don't get it
I don't get it, baby, yeah, yeah

Don't be so obsessed--c'mon give it a rest
This is not some contest--just do your best
'Cause no--oh body's perfect!

Oh, no--oh body's perfect
No--oh, it's not worth it
Don't be so obsessed
(No--oh body's perfect)
This is not some contest
(No--oh body's perfect)
Perfect! What a way to wanna be

I am glad to read that you are taking it easy for a couple of days. You really have been working so hard over the past few months. Don't be too hard on yourself for going a little over your calories, you deserve to have a day off, plus it probably did your body good to get some extra food while you are sick. Get well soon Kathy.

The video was lovely, it reminded me of the circularity of a woman's life child, mother, carer. As mother's we care for our children and then in the end they care for us. It has a symmetry that is wonderful.

I love Portuguese roasted chestnuts! I bought them on the streets of Lisbon when we were there the other day! Enjoy your party.

It's funny that you mention you felt especially hungry with your cold - it may not be just the medicine. Perhaps it's the cold itself. I heard something about that in the documentary I watched yesterday - the one you recommended. I ALWAYS put on weight when I catch a cold - I get the munchies and can't help eating anything good that I find. Get well soon, my dear. You must be well for this wedding in Hungary!

The cats look great - so cute, both of them looking at the camera!

selina on 11/06/2010:
She is 14, I just can't believe it! I wanted to make a free sugar cake but she wanted me to bake the original, Grandma's recipe. The recipe called for 2 cups of sugar, but I only put one - my secret!

I haven't been able to sleep very well in the past two nights: Selina, the cat, has been jumping on my bed at 4am and walking all over me and butting her head on my hands and nibling on my fingers. The cats are on a diet because they've put so much weight after coming to the US. I think the cat food here has more fat than in Switzerland.... Anyway, because she is hungry, she keeps waking me up. They are so cute but annoying, sometimes...

selina on 11/06/2010:
I know what you mean, kids can get rebellious during adolescence, I know I was! I've been very lucky with mine - she has an amazing personality - always positive and with a smile on her face. She is smart and fun, a joy to be around!

hopingforhealth on 11/06/2010:
Definitely good to take the weekend off. You've been doing great and you don't want to hurt yourself more. Those roasted chesnuts sound delicious!

Went the part and had a nice time, so I took your advice :)

chidogs on 11/06/2010:
It is the best thing you can do, take a rest. And colds do make me tend to eat comfort foods a lot! Don't do guilt about it, just do what you need to to feel better before your trip. Take care.

sweetpea1977 on 11/06/2010:
Glad you're resting to let your injury recover. Your body will thank you later. ;)

I've never had roasted chestnuts, but its something I hope to try one day! Enjoy the party!

So sorry to hear about the tendon problems, kathyblue. I took my daughter to the doctor last monday because of the same problem - she is a tap and ballet dancer. The doctor gave her many stretch exercises to do on a daily basis to extend the tendons in order to heal... You should go to the doctor, they will tell you what needs to be done. You are right, there are consequences to extreme physical activity - take it easy and get well soon.

Sis sorry about your legs, Please keep your feet elevated and stay off them for a while. I know you love tennis a lot, but we love you a lot, and want you to get better. So TAKE IT EASY! Wearing the pink top to church this Sunday. I'll be praying for you sis. Thank you again. xoxo

moogy on 11/05/2010:
Sometimes we have to listen to what our bodies are telling us and do so gracefully. You work so hard all the time, your legs are bound to be asking for a rest now and again. Take it as a day to relax and focus on other areas of your life, meditate, think about how you are doing emotionally, how are you doing in your relationship. It isn't all about the physical Kathy.

Gotta do this entry. I went to physical evaluation, and well, yeah... I have a huge % of fat (40,1 %, 36 kgs) so I have to work on it. The girl was so nice, she made me a 12-week plan, I have to stick to it and go back in February. The goal is: up with muscles, down with fat. I have to boost up flexibility too, and I got a 90% (very good) on aerobic issue (on the bike, I had to keep 50 km/h on the bike and she was increasing the power and checking my cardio levels). Of course, I'm doing tennis. LOL... :-) No news here... but then!

The most exciting for me was to know the BMR value: I burn 1369 kcals a day by existing, being a living creature. This is not too good, I need to increase this by gaining MUSCLES... The online calculator gives me a value of 1700 kcals just upon weight, height and age!!! http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Anyways, it's 1369 for me... Any additional calorie I am able to burn contributes to weight-loss, of course, if I keep the 1400 kcal/day diet which I've been failing for a time now. This evaluation gave me some additional willpower, so I'm going to stick to the plan in the following 12 weeks, and in February I'm going to re-do the test... This plan is not very clear now because first of all I have to take it to the gym, and they will create a plan for me. I have a plan already on muscles and stuff, now I need to fulfill the gaps between that plan and this 12-week plan.

Today's menu:

06H10 - the same as yesterday ;-) (350 kcal)

10H30 - LF milk w/ coffee, a whole grain cookie (150 kcal)

12H30 - a veggie soup with a white bun (failed this point of the weekly challenge ) and a cup of MF milk w/ coffee (450 kcal)

14H30 - a LF, plain yogurt (100 kcal)

16H00 - MF milk w/ coffee (100 kcal)

17H30 - a cookie and a bit of corn bread (150 kcal)

21H30 - a pear

Grand total: 1400 kcal

Progress as of today: 114.1 lbs lost so far, only 72.1 lbs to go!

It meant for me that I am going to be fighting a losing battle and that my grandhcildren, the girls I feel not the boys - (who seem to take after their skinny father)will be fighting the same battle, but with more informed minds and less emotional baggage to pull them down. I suppose that we should be grateful that our ancestors where suvivors, or else, we wouldn't be here at all!! But I bet you felt like me, how come I can't be one of the skinny ones who don't put on weight - ever - no matter what they eat!!! NO FAIR

moogy on 11/02/2010:
But, then again, look at how much weight you have already lost. I don't think that it means we will always be fat, just that it will always be a battle to stay slim!! A slight ray of hope!!

Sofia on 11/02/2010:
You have already lost such an insane amount of weight that that 12-week plan shouldn't be too difficult. With weight loss, you should always go slow anyway. You are my weight loss idol, keep it up! :D

tangalyn on 11/03/2010:
im sure u will do great with the new plan, u r so determined to get to ur goal, i have nooo doubt that u will do it, just keep up the good work and keep smiling :) have a great day!

selina on 11/03/2010:
This 12 week plan is a new boost to your program, super! Have a great day!

sweetpea1977 on 11/03/2010:
Thats great news about your BMR - 1369 calories is a great number of calories to burn just by existing. :) What a great motivator to stay at 1400/day to encourage additional weightloss.

The 12 week program sounds intriging. Does it involve a food plan to go along with your current exercise program? I cant wait to hear more about it!

Umpqua on 11/03/2010:
You are already so motivating, you are a calorie-burning machine! Seriously, you are doing so well and I'm sure you will step it up and embrace this new program. Hope you have a good one!

Maria7 on 11/03/2010:
You are so active with your tennis, you will probably be seeing lower numbers on the scale very soon with your new plan! :-)

loveray on 11/03/2010:
im glad that your eval went well!! good for you - what kinds of things did she prescribe for you? i know you will do well with it and kick butt!

lifestylechange on 11/03/2010:
(Soup recipe is still coming soon) That's great that you are going to start a 12 week plan...you have already done SOOO amazing. I can't wait to learn more about your program and how it's working for you!! Have a great day, hugs!

biscottibody59 on 11/03/2010:
Curious what method was used to do your body fat. Pretty good eval--good going on the cardio portion:-) You're bound to get more flexible over time.

I checked out the excerpts (and will watch it entirely soon) of the video--thanks! I have one you might be interested in--http://video.vsh.org/lisle.html--"The Pleasure Trap." It's an hour long.

chidogs on 11/03/2010:
You just keep up with how well you are already doing! I hope they told you what a successful lady your already are! Oh, and halloween size means very tiny, about the size of your little finger. Not a full size candy bar. :)

chidogs on 11/03/2010:
Kathy, actually sourdough is a white flour bread made with a special yeast mixture. It is supposed to be better for you than plain white bread, but likely not as good as whole wheat. I just don't care for egg on whole wheat. :)

just42day on 11/03/2010:
thanks for today's kind words. Appreciate them! :)

V on 11/03/2010:
kathy this 12 weeks will not only get you ALOT closer, it will fly by:) You are always consistent so this will be a breeze for you!!! Love you LOTTTTS :)

hopingforhealth on 11/03/2010:
You're doing so great, you can totally do that 12 week plan. It sounds like the evaluation was very productive!

Good morning, Girlies!

Yesterday was a national holiday and we were out of flat almost all day. Then, when we arrived home I didn't feel like PC... so I ended up without logging my food but I was careful. Even then, I made something around 1700 kcals and no exercise besides walking... I wanted to do capoeira fitness, I have the DVD... and I really like it. I was just plain LAZY... lol. Today I went to tennis. Didn't go well, I have a pain in my leg and I couldn't heat up before the class, bc the door was closed, I couldn't get outside.

Yesterday I did whole grain semolina for dinner. It's something really LOOOOVELY!!! Do you girls know about it? I cooked it with LF milk, and some black sugar, and put LF cocoa powder on top. My man chose cinnamon topping, with loads of white sugar of course...

Today's menu:

06H10 - a slice of vollkornbrot with soy margarine and a slice of LF cheese, soy chocolate LF drink (400 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee, a cookie (150 kcal)

12H30 - pork liver (250 kcal) with veggies, lots of (lettuces, cucumber, tomato, green peas, chickpeas) and a mango (400 kcal)

16H00 - a LF yogurt with 2 whole cookies (150 kcal)

Grand total: 1400 kcal

Note: Today is the 2nd date for physical evaluation. Let's see if they don't call me this time to re-schedule... If everything runs OK, it will be at 7 PM.

I caught a documentary film yesterday, an other one from BBC: "Why are thin people not fat?", about eating when you're not hungry... it was AMAZING!!!!
Please, take some time and watch it, it really worth the hour! There's a part, when a doctor does a little experiment among children (3-5 yrs old), it's SHOCKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Why are thin people not fat?". "The world is affected by an obesity epidemic, but why is it that not everyone is succumbing? Medical science has been obsessed with this subject and is coming up with some unexpected answers. As it turns out, it is not all about exercise and diet.At the center of this programme is a controversial overeating
experiment that aims to identify exactly what it is about some people that makes it hard for them to bulk up."
Here you can watch it free of charge:
http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/why-are-thin-people-not-fat/ or

And here's an other movie online, free to watch, I haven't seen this one yet: http://documentaryheaven.com/thin/
"The 2006 cinéma vérité documentary film, THIN, directed by Lauren Greenfield and distributed by HBO, is an exploration of The Renfrew Center in Coconut Creek, Florida; a 40-bed residential facility for the treatment of women with eating disorders. The film mostly revolves around four women with anorexia nervosa and/or bulimia and their struggles for recovery."

Progress as of today: 114.1 lbs lost so far, only 72.1 lbs to go!

Have a fabulous day!!!

just42day on 11/02/2010:
Thanks for your kind words. I know 1600 calories isn't horrible. I did gain a few lbs w/the weekend festivities so I need to work to lose those. I just get annoyed w/myself when I eat and I know I'm not hungry. It's just wasted calories. Thanks again. :)

V on 11/02/2010:
Hi kat!!! I actually watched the HBO special, it was truly distubing to see all of these women mostly in their 20's with the body of an 8 yr olds....One of the patients died after her release from treatment :(

sweetpea1977 on 11/02/2010:
Thanks for telling us about the documentaries. Im going to look if netflix has them in their library.

Good luck at your physical!

panda22 on 11/02/2010:
Hey =) Glad to see you are doing great! I loved your last entry, sooooo funny! Those movies sound very interesting as well. Have a great week!! =D

Maria7 on 11/02/2010:
Thank you. He is the Thanksgiving turkey, actually. I like your picture above, too. :-) 1200 cals sounds REAL GOOD! :-D

sweetpea1977 on 11/02/2010:
lol, I knew what you meant! ;)

I was actually just looking into prenatal pilates and yoga. There are classes available as well as dvds. I'll probably go with the dvd route, since its cheaper and easier on our schedules. Hubby is working long hours to meet an end-of-year deadline so by the time he gets home Im super-exhausted to do anything physical!

legcramps on 11/02/2010:
Have a great day today!

loveray on 11/02/2010:

Halloween was good, lots of fun and insane quantity of candy!

V on 11/02/2010:
Lol! I hear ya girl, on the dvd's If I were ever to meet Tony Horton(P90X dude) in a dark alley i would rough him up a little and make out with him too(he's kinda hot for and older guy) LOL...Us Leo's have to keep everything exciting or else all interest will be lost!! I have so many workout tapes to keep me motivated

V on 11/02/2010:
He is pretty dreamy!!!! Go to www.p90x.com

chidogs on 11/02/2010:
Sounds excellent! I have never seen black sugar before, interesting. Sorry, can't do the facebook group as I am not on facebook and really don't have time to join right now. I even slip up coming here some days! Thanks for the invite though. :)

V on 11/02/2010:
If you think P90x is violent cross fit takes it 5 levels higher...Now If you are interested there are ways to modify your workout when beginning P90...Even the fittest people struggle with some of the workouts...So if you are interested don't be intimidated, we all have to start somewhere and the workouts are different everyday of the week...Some are not as intense as the others...You can get the entire workout for $120...The lbs will melt away!

moogy on 11/02/2010:
I have seen that documentary, very interesting wasn't it. I feel as if it isn't all my fault that I am fat now!! Thank you for your comment Kathy.

legcramps on 11/01/2010:
Those are hilarious! Thanks for the smile today :-)

hopingforhealth on 11/01/2010:
These are hilarious! My dad once told me a story about his friend's college philosophy class. His final exam was one question and he just had no clue. He wrote "only God knows the answer to this question" and when he got the exam back it said "God gets an A. You get an F." I bet teachers get the craziest stuff!
