LOL... happy Halloween to all!

I'm suffering today. I am REALLY REALLY REALLY suffering today. Yesterday I went to this party with my colleague Jorge (my man didn't want to come), a Hungary Night at the local Immigration Centre. I'm not really into these parties, but I went because of Jorge, he wanted to go. And then, he told me we should go to the workplace because he left a plastic bag there with the stuff we bought on Friday at the sports store. OK, we went there. The security guy was there to check the establishment - he asked us who were we (lol, the ones with a key, and then?! ), and then he waited for us to leave. But I had to go to the WC, and WC's not easy to me. So, they were waiting, and me suffering at the WC... even more than usual bc I knew there were ppl waiting for me.


Then I had to interrupt my WC session, and he drove me home. Today morning, I returned to the toilet and I found myself in the situation of a nice constipation provoked by me yesterday... I spent 2 freaking hours on the toilet today morning, and then I drank a small cup of Laevolac, it helped. Now I can hardly sit, it's soooo stupid...

But why am I telling you this - because it's related of course with my diet. I had rice on Friday night (sushi), then I had rice on Saturday (in addition it was extra hot, spicy, indian rice). Then, I had banana. I didn't have apples, pears, nothing that would help me out... I think, I really, strongly think I'm doing a healthy, balanced eating here... Any ideas for me, girls?

Today's menu:

08H00 - a cup of baby food (50 kcal) with Leavolac (dunno the kcals, lol)

10H00 - cup of milk (semi-skimmed) with coffee substitute and cereals (200 kcal)

12H00 - a mango (150 kcal)

12H30 - veggie soup, salad and some pork tenderloins, a small piece of soft cake (600 kcal)

14H00 - semi-skimmed milk w/ real coffee (100 kcal)

16H00 - the last pieces of the carob-carot cake without sugar/flour I made the other day, w/ soy milk (300 kcal)

20H00 - veggie soup w/ whole grain toast and a pear (350 kcal)

Grand total: 1750 kcal

Progress as of today: 114.1 lbs lost so far, only 72.1 lbs to go!

Goodie morning!

You Ladies sent me the rain, right??? :-) I've been reading about rain in almost all of your entries for a few days now....  Well, no problem, I had tennis today, ALONE as the others didn't show up because of the cloudy weather... bunch of PUSSIES!!!! :-) Even better, I had a personal training, alone with the coach... :-) And then it can continue raining as I don't have tennis on the weekends, hehehe. Nor on Monday, as it's a public holiday.

Wonder what are the plans for weekend. I would like to ride the bike on Sunday but not in rain... When it rains in Lisbon... it rains A LOOOOOOOT...

Today's menu:

06H10 - a LF soy yogurt with prunes (250 kcal)

10H00 - coffee w/ LF milk (100 kcal)

11H00 - 4 plums (150 kcal)

12H30 - scrambled eggs with veggies, salad, raw green pepper, a LF yogurt (500 kcal)

Great plaque and I like the black cat picture below too. My sick kitty is pure black and its one of those huge ironies of life that I have to sacrifice him right around Halloween. I guess it's a fitting and noble end to his life though.

I did diets under 1350 cals before, but it wasn't easy. This time I have a good incentive - seeing relatives over the holidays. In your case, you need more than 1350 because of your intense workouts!

Good morning, Ladies :-)

I'm so happy today morning. I had my tennis class, and then I had a class of Pilates because they opened a new class (Tue-Thu, 2 times a week at 8.30 am) and I asked my boss to let me enter a bit later on Tues and Thurs... :-) Let's see what he says. It would boost up my "let's correct my posture" mission for sure, passing from 1 Pilates class per week to three!

Ahhh, about the goal date of being 198 lbs: I think you're right. I'm going to pick "the end of the year", or maybe 14th January as a goal date, because... it'll be the 1 yr anniversary of the diet and me being among the community of DD!!!! 

Today's menu:

06H10 - 2 slices of whole toasts with LF soy margarine and a half LF cheese + LF milk (300 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee, an apple (150 kcal)

12H45 - whole rice w/ soy and meat, raw veggies, a plain yogurt and a dessert LF yogurt (650 kcal)

Inky is not very cuddly, she only puts up with us because we feed her. She is moody - sometimes she likes to be petted, most of the time she doesn't. She does like doing figure eights on our legs to let us know she is hungry, ha! Selina is different - she likes to sleep with us although she takes most of the bed. Many times I go to sleep in my daughter's bed because Selina takes all my space in our bed. Luckily, my daughter sleeps in a queen size bed and husband doesn't seem to mind sleeping with the cat, ha!

oh i just want to say that in my diet nothing is forbidden,you have to plan every food and balance all the nutritive values in your day,in order not to drastically change your eating habits....and so your life! =)

Good morning, Ladies!

Tennis didn't go too well today, hehe. It has its days. I'm still having some muscle pain because of Monday's workout. Tomorrow, after tennis I'm going to have a Pilates class (gotta be late from work but I can fix that) to stretch my body out...

I decided to set up a new goal: below 200 lbs (198) until the middle of December. Do you think it's realistic? I'm always afraid of setting up non-realistic goals but I've been doing OK since January on this level.

I'm still a bit puzzled by the fact of not receiving notifications of new comments on my entries, through e-mail. I hope ddwebmaster can fix that soon. And the bar, I want the yellow bar baaaaack...

Today's menu:

06H10 - 2 slices of whole toasts with LF soy butter and a slice of LF cheese, LF milk w/ LF cocoa + black sugar (400 kcal)

10H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (150 kcal)

11H30 - an apple (50 kcal)

12H30 - egg roll (2 eggs + veggies, smashed and rolled up like a pancake, without any added fat), salad (lettuce, carrot, olive oil+vinagre) and a picant sardines tin - 700 kcal

hi!First of all very compliments for your weigth loss!Your costancy is very useful for us,it makes us more ambitious!!! =) I often set up non-realistic goal and when I can't reach my goal... I give up... so it's better to plan little goal and reach it one by one

I think that losing 14 pounds in 7 weeks is acheivable but you will be putting a lot of pressure on yourself. How about if you stretch it out to being below 200 before Christmas. That way if you get down to the lower weight before Christmas you are a winner anyway. You are a real example of determination and enthusiasm. Good for you Kathy.

RYC: yeah 6 hours on some nights is plenty. I generally average 7 hours of full sleep/night. Of course it's with CPAP therapy and very restorative. If I get only 5 hours for say 2 days in a row, I usually make up for it the very next day with 8 or 9. It's all good:-)

ps we're very lucky to have an attentive webmaster. The original owner couldn't even be reached by email at one point before this WM bought him out. I think the site was dead in the water for a couple weeks. We had no clue what was going on. So I see any little bit of effort by the current owner as triumphal:-) And to think that the site has been around since 1999--when plenty of websites from so long ago are now ancient history--that's really something in my book!

At the rate you're going I bet you can reach that. Although extending it to Christmas or even the end of the year might give you more wiggle room. And here I am hoping I will just maintain through all the travel and holidays I have coming up. I need to step up my game!

Re if your goal is realistic. I always have to break things down - You want to lose 14 lbs by 12/15 - that's 48 days- more or less. So 14 lbs divided by 48 days = .292 lbs per day X 7 days = 1 week or 2.04 per week-ish.....Pretty aggressive, but mostly attainable. Just don't get to emotionally tied up in deadline. Do the best you can every day and see what happens.

hello, KASHI makes several whole grain products...Mostly organic and YUMMMY also high fiber/high protein. They are all natural as well. They are sold in most grocery stores (take a look at their website). I love their fruit, nut and grain bars too! Esp the dark-chocolate coconut. Wii fit is an add on to the nintendo Wii. It is a game program and a balance board. There are about 100 different exercises you can do.. There are running courses, yoga, boxing, strength workouts, hula hooping and a TON more... Its not quite as good as running or an aerobics class at the gym, but I can do it in my living room and my muscles usually are a bit sore from it the next day... Its very fun!

Good morning, Girls!

I created this entry yesterday but it has today's date so I'm going to write stuff here at the beginning. Below are the same photos from yesterday.

Thank you very much for your sweet comments. I am different now, and I hope to shoot a photo with the bride in November (gotta go to Hungary to attend a wedding of my old friend) so we can compare! :-) And then, some time from now, we can compare AGAIN. There are still some 70++ lbs to lose, so I'll have an other rebirth at the end of this journey...

Good news is, tennis was lovely. I got a new racket in August (actually, I received two, one from my Man, he bought it through eBay - rackets are very expensive around here but nowadays eBay has offers available for us, too! - and one from my mother). I love Wilson brand, at least the rackets (although the backpack I recently received is really nice, too!). And my mother gave me a Dunlop brand. I was a bit reluctant with it, but now it has new strings and we were in perfect harmony today. The others are constantly mocking me, saying I have a fetish with rackets... LOL, that's soooo unfair. I have only two rackets (some ppl have 4-5 rackets, ok but maybe they're PROs making a living out of tennis... I WISH!).

Good news 2#: we made some pressure on the tennis admin, and now we are authorized to have tennis trainings EVERY SINGLE WORKDAY... AMAZING! :-) From Monday on, I have tennis everyday....

Bad news: (had to be...) my cousin who has the band in her stomach ,is now at the hospital. She was internated because she had high blood pressure. She is pregnant now. She had lost a lot of weight since surgery, but when she got pregnant they extended it so she gained back a lot. Just to imagine, she was around 60 kilos and in 9 months she went straight up to 110 kgs again. She's 150 cms tall (small).

Good news 3#: She's going to have the baby TODAY!!! YAYYYYY.... :-)

Bad news 2#: She has to have a cesariana (selina, how is this in English??) because of the high blood pressure.

Today's menu:

06H00 - soy milk w/ muesli (200 kcal)

09H00 - LF milk w/ coffee (100 kcal)

12H30 - grilled chicken (400 kcal) w/ asparagus cream (200 kcal) and sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil + mini, cherry tomatoes (100 kcal)

17H00 - a slice of chocolate cake (from the local organic/bio store, made with lean stuff, 270kcal in 100 gr, I ate a really small piece of this) with LF milk (150 kcal)

Grand total: 1150 kcal

PROUDLY ANNOUNCE: I BECAME AN AUNT today at 3PM (again, lol)!!! MY COUSIN GAVE BIRTH TO A 3500 gr (7,72 lbs) BOY (the sex of the baby was kept in secret as they wished!). BOTH ARE WELL. :-)

This is very emotional to me because I can clearly see a difference... I'll try to compile a "BEFORE - AFTER" photo... and I still have 70+++ pounds to lose, girls!!!

I wouldnt worry about why you let yourself go but insteand focus on how much better you feel now that you've lost so much weight! I think it might feel good to be a positive influence on those around you. We each have to be accountable to ourselves, in the end, though, don't we? C-section, that's what your cousin had to have because of high blood pressure. I hope baby and mom are doing well! I also had high blood pressure towards the end of my pregnancy although I had gained only 10 kgs. I had to stay in bed for a whole week, until the end of the pregnancy. I read a lot of books, ha!

My brother loves playing tennis and he is also a genius when it comes to maths. I think tennis has a lot to do with maths... people who like maths like tennis. I've always been average in math and never got to understand tennis, ha I imagine you are good in maths... right?

29, how envious I am of you! They say that life begins at 40 and that's the truth - that's when I started painting and a whole new life opened up for me! I love being in my 40s! And yes, I've been painting! After the garden project is done today, I'll go right back to painting. In fact, I've been painting every day. My problem is that I ran out ot supplies and my stuff in the sea shipment has not arrived, yet. But, I have ordered more paper and bought a few tubes of painting the other day. I can't keep track of my age, ha! I thought I was 47 all year long when I was actually 46! The same thing happened to my friend! Now that I'm writing this, I had to stop and count in my fingers how old I am now, lol. I'm 47 but will turn 48 in December. And here I was thinking that I was going to turn 49... GASP!

I'm so glad my daughter has an excellent math teacher in middle school... it makes a huge difference! Yet, she is just like me: a B math student, even if she works so hard! And she gets A in all other subjects!

Your cousin is getting a Caesarian section aka C-section. These are very common here in the USA and throughout the world, so she'll be fine. :) Congratulations on the new addition to your family!

ET is not for everyone. It is kind of boring and it kind of annoys me in that after awhile the bottom of my feet get numb. I am going to try new shoes!! LOL! Mine is the kind that has a handle bar right in front of you and you do not have to hang onto the handles that move up and back all the time. The arms move all the time, but you don't have to do it. I can watch TV while I do it and look out my basement windows so it's not too bad. I do this more in hot or cold weather, obviously. It is a good workout, though, there are many ways to work out that are more fun.

No, Kathy, they are not my cats. They were photos of cats that I took when I was in Istambul last year, lol. Have you ever been to Istambul? They love cats there and they are everywhere in the carpet bazars, etc. The one on my daughter's lap is just like the cat I left in Switzerland/ I brought 2 black cats with me to the US...

Wanna hear a success story, early in the morning? 

My diet and my 109 lbs loss had a strange effect on my colleagues. My boss lost all the extra weight he had, and now goes to a gym frequently. And now I have 3 more colleagues, all dudes, doing diets and gym. That's because I started to tell them: "Hey, are you doing some exercise?" and them: "... no, I quitted.. but why, do I look fat????" and me: "Well, actually you've picked up quite some extra weight since the beginning, and believe me, it would be better for you to lose it now while it's a small amount...". Nowadays they ask me in the morning: "K., have you been to tennis/gym/hidro... etc.?" and me "Yes, and you?" "Yesss, also!" and then the best part when they skip a day because of wanting to stay in bed... they actually CONFESS to me at the coffee in the morning... "You know, K... today I couldn't make it to the gym... I wanted to sleep... but I promise I go at night". Like if I were their mother or girlfriend or TRAINER... lol... First of all I brought all sorts of equipements to work: a pilates ball, a football (actually it's a plastic one, really good in the office, doesn't ruin anything, LOL), an expander, a kit of badminton... so we are the sportiest programmers in Lisbon for sure. We tried to convince the director to build us a pool outside, but he didn't go with the flow... BAD! :-)

I bought an Oatly Oat Drink Vanilla yesterday, to substitute milk (it messes up my stomach on the training days)... Anyone, opinion? I'm going to try it next week and I'll tell you about the results. ;-)

09H30 - Lf milk w/ coffee without caffeine... (today physical evaluation, no coffee allowed in 12 hours) (100 kcal)

10H30 - a banana (80 kcal)

12H30 - green bean soup with veggies (150 kcal) + toasts (200 kcal)

13H30 - a plain, LF yogurt (FINALLY THE STORE HAS IT AGAIN!!!) (100 kcal)

15H00 - a coffee w/ some milk (50 kcal)

17H00 - soy yogurt (200 kcal)

19H00 - banana, a cereal bar

20H00 - indulging with Man on whole bread toasts... argh!!! :-)

Grand total: 2000 kcal

Bad news at 13H00 - My physical evaluation has been cancelled. A broken machine... WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP..... Now I have 2nd November booked for the 2nd try.

Good new is, weather's been calm, no rain so tomorrow: TENNNNNNNNNNNNNISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Progress as of today: 109.5 lbs lost so far, only 76.7 lbs to go!

Thats great that you're healthy lifestyle has had a positive effect on your co-workers. If you get sick of your current job (like I did!), you should become a physical fitness trainer (which is what I want to do!). :)

I *think* rolled just means that the oats are processed differently and flattened out. The "rolled" oats are sort of light and flaky, while the unprocessed steel cut oats are hard and must be cooked a lot longer. But I really don't know what I'm talking about, just guessing!

that oatly drink sounds GOOD. i haven't seen it here. does it have any PROTEIN? if not, you may want to find a different milk substitute. the protein will hold you over longer.

I love oat milk! The only reason I haven't been buying it is because of the high price. Meanwhile, almond milk has become popular and has come down quite a bit in price so that's why I'm buying it.

What a positive effect you've had on your co-workers! I wish that had happened at my last school. Instead, everyone just kept getting fatter and fatter. All anyone seemed to think about was the next food opportunity. I think 5 have had the gastric bypass since I left. What a sad situation it was!

So congratulations on being such a good influence.

TOMORROW: I have a complete physical evaluation booked for 7 PM.... Wonder how it goes. I bet they will start by saying: "You're obese." LOL...

I didn't tell you but on Saturday I had a very unpleasant conversation with an old rack (sorry, I have to call her like this...), she sat on my side while I was waiting between Pilates and PowerDeep, she said I was fat and how she was feeling sorry for me and for everyone above 100 kgs. I told her I was actually below 100 kgs, not much but it counts. And then she told me I should do more exercise. I told her I was doing tennis, she told me I shouldn't play tennis, and how she discourages everyone from playing tennis, incl. her son, because it's violent, etc... Geez... I was telling myself constantly : "Patienceeeeeee, be patient, she doesn't know about the 109 lbs, etc. etc..." LOL... Have to find me a better place to hide between the classes... LOL...

Honestly, what is wrong with people! I think you exercise more than anyone on this site. Most important is that you are doing amazing. Ugh, sorry you had to deal with that idiot woman. I would have told her flat out about my weightloss journey. She would immediately shut her face and start congratulating you for taking charge of your health. If I were there with you, I would have said some not so kind words to her, lol. Anyway, you better let the doctor know about your weightloss (and how it has changed your life!!) when they start your physical. Im sure he/she will be quite impressed of your success!!

I normally try to eat fruits and veggies each day, but I guess what I was trying to say in my diary was that the fresh raw fruits were going to be my main focus this week. I ate A LOT of bready carbs over the weekend, so I want to cut back on them this week and make the majority of my calories come from raw foods.

Counting today's weigh-in, I've gained 7 lbs in the 14 weeks that I've known about the pregnancy. So far, Im actually right on track with weight gain, so Im not too stressed about the 3.5lbs in one week. I just dont want to make the 3lbs/week a habit since the normal rate of weight gain during the 2nd trimester is 1lb/week.

Well yeah, this is me at the riverbank (Tejo river, Lisbon Portugal) with my best friend, Wilson, hehehe... SERIOUSLY, you know I LOVE TENNIS, don't you??? 

I'm reading about calories burnt with sports today... As I suspected, SQUASH burns the most calories: 840 calories per hour!!!! Geez... This is equivalent to: 3.1 times a Grande Starbucks Caffe Latte - Made with whole milk . :) Tennis "only" burns 600 kcal/hour... :-) But then again, squash is an elite sport, it's something like 10 euros per 30 minutes...!!!

For inspiration and encouragement, here is a list of habits that reportedly help French women keep their weight down — and this, within a cuisine based on butter!


Graze by the light of the fridge
Eat lunch at their desks
Keep a stash of food in their office
Eat huge portions
Have breakfast for dinner
