16H00 - rice yogurt w/ kefir (200 kcal)

18H00 - yogurt (100 kcal)

21H00 - veggie soup w/ a slice of WW bread and a soy yogurt (400 kcal)

Weight: 249.5

Today's a national holiday: The Day of Portugal. We're going out!!! :)

After I scr...d up yesterday with a late sushi frenzy, I'm going to behave.

Today's menu:

08H00 - smashed fruit (70 kcal)

10H30 - 2 slices of WW toast w/ LF cheese, cucumber and LF milk w/ coffee substitute (400 kcal)

update at 10pm: No behaving, my man took me to the cinema, we ate a very bit during the day (like 300 kcal worth) but then, he had a surprise dinner for me at the sushi bar we used to visit. WELL... I think I'm far beyond the 2000 kcal, I feel awful. Not because I haven't behad - it happens, well, once or twice in a year and I haven't devoured a bar of chocolate, I had fish and rice and salads... but I overate and I think I need to vomit to get a normal goodnight sleep... Rarely happens...

Progress as of today: 76.7 lbs lost so far, only 58.5 lbs to go!

Well, I had no luck today. The weather got ugly just when I got out of the metro. So I turned around and went to work... I had urgent stuffs to do. OK, this was a good excuse, but I didn't feel like fitness (especially because there's this VERY ANNOYING girl at the tennis, she's never absent and she talks awful lot... I really dislike her because she never knows when to stop. In 10 min she can brief her life, and then continues talking about everything comes her mind... Can you imagine, once I was at the fitness, 20min cardio bike and she was talking to me during these 20min, and then we passed to the other machines and she kept talking and I got verry annoyed!)...

Well, thank you for your comments yesterday. You're right about food, and what scares me still is that we just don't have the choice. I go to the nearby bio store to buy my yogurts, and they sell everything, like this:

a pack of organic brown rice costs 3 euros... for 500 gramms. OK, I took one home and we really liked it - so we did some counting and said: OK, we stop buying the 1 EUR rice at the supermarket, we're going to buy this organic, fair trade rice for 3 EUR, because 500 gr for us two last for a month, so 3 EUR a month is not that expensive... NEXT:

bread... Whole grain, organic, fair trade bread... 1,05 EUR to 3,15 EUR a loaf. OK, that's not that much either, we eat 1 loaf/week so it's OK to spend this money on bread. NEXT:

yogurts: bio, organic, etc. natural yogurt. 2 EUR/500 gr approx. OK - my Man dispenses this, so I need this 4 times a month, as I eat 500 gr in a week....

and then I could continue with other things like pasta, soy yogurts, rice drinks, etc. and then we have a very frightening bill at the end of each month. And do we live better? I think so... I don't want to contribute to illegal workers' miserable salaries, animal slaughters and violation of basic rights of human and animals... It just doesn't seem right. I don't buy meat in the bio store. My man couldn't care less, he eats meat 7 times a week, 2 times per day... we wouldn't be able to afford that. Do we know where the meat comes from? No. We know it's local, it says so. Nothing else... ahh yes, we know they give medicine to them. My man says it's good because this is a guarantee for him not to eat contanimated animals. Diseases. Well, this is a point of view. What do I do? I don't eat meat. I prefer fish, without dolphins and traceable origins. Is it difficult to find out these details? Very difficult... this is the 21th century... it has never been more easy to get food... but it has never been so difficult to get quality food, to fight against obesity and diseases, contaminations... Even then, I have my choice... the only thing bothering me still is the fact that I cannot control it 100%...

It wouldn't be fair not to listen what the "other side" has to say:

A good loaf of bread in Miami costs between $4 and $6 which I don't mind spending at all. The cheap, pasty white junk is tasteless and full of "fast" carbs.

As you know I'm a real fan of good rice too and mentally put white rice in the same category as white bread. The wholegrain rices (brown, black, red,j gourmet mixed) are so tasty and chewy and I'm so accustomed to eating it that I just can't stand the insipid white rice.

To me there's nothing more delicious than good bread and rice, whatever the cost, and fresh fruit. To me, eating fresh fruit is like indulging in a rich dessert.

Morning, Ladies!

Today I don't really have much to say: doing a water day. I let myself go too far yesterday and today I try to clean my body. Not a punishment, if it turns out to be too hard for a dieting body, I let it go for sure. But it's 11am. and I feel great. :-)

By the way, I started to read a book called Food Inc., it's very interesting though I have never seen the movie itself. I didn't know that in the US the food industry is so strong they put money against health. OK, I know that these industries doesn't care if you're here in 2011 to tell anything, they want you to buy their products today. Even if it's with E.coli or hormones that make their cows to get bigger/give more milk, etc. And then we don't talk about the places where they keep these poor animals who may never see the daylight or green grass during their short lives... It's awful! They say the European Union doesn't let these things happen but I'm very sceptic... Very, very sceptic. Once my sis Nita asked me if I was a vegetarian - and I have to tell you guys, I'm more and more closer to be one, yes.

Lisbon, view from the castle:

Update: I went out to lunch w/ my colleague, so I had a half dose of macrobiotic vegetarian lunch. I won't eat anything else today.

at night I had soup with a soy dessert and a slice of WW bread in the soup.

Grand total for the day: approx. 1000 kcal

I want to share this with you from SparkPeople.com (get your newsletters too, they are all great!):

SparkPeople Experts Answer Your Fitness Questions

Question: How often should I walk? Should I focus on miles or minutes?

Expert Answer:

Frequency: Number of Days Per Week
Aim for a minimum of 3 days a week, and gradually work your way up to 5 or 6 days a week. The more the better--especially when it comes to weight loss. But don't forget the importance of rest and recovery--give yourself at least 1-2 days off each week.

Intensity: How Hard To Exercise
You can use your target heart rate range or the "Talk Test" to make sure you're working out in a good range (not too easy, not too hard). If you can comfortably answer a question during exercise, while still feeling like you're exerting yourself, you're in a good calorie-burning range. This range is ideal for the general health benefits that come with exercise, and for weight loss.

Time: How Long For Each Cardio Session
The recommended time for most people ranges from a minimum of 20 minutes (for simple general health), all the way up to about 60 minutes. Of course, it's smart to work your way up gradually. The further you go over 20 minutes, the more fat you are burning, so that can be a good motivator.

Type: Activities That Count
Any activity can count as cardio/aerobic exercise as long as it meets the 3 requirements above - that you can sustain a target heart rate intensity for at least 20-60 minutes, and do it several times a week. Walking, of course, meets those requirements.

Things to keep in mind:
1. Time can be cumulative: You don't have to do 60 minutes all at once. You can do several 5-10 minute mini-workouts each day and add them up. 2. If you can't reach your target heart rate with walking, then add intensity by increasing speed or incline.

Progress as of today: 72.7 lbs lost so far, only 62.5 lbs to go!

Umpqua on 06/07/2010:
That picture is beautiful, I went to Portugal in high school and it was an amazing place. And yes, the food industry in the US is absolutely barbaric. It is SO difficult to shop, especially with children! It scares the heck out of me the way everything is filled with steroids, antibiotics, genetically modified corn and corn-based fillers. Don't even get me started on the school lunch program in our public schools. I have tried my best to keep my boys away from all the junk and they love fruits and veggies. I try to buy local/organic for those but it gets very expensive. It's a huge problem and I suspect it's directly related to all kinds of problems, from food allergies to the rise in autism, ADHD, etc. <end of rant :)>

geevee on 06/07/2010:
On a more positive note, I read in the NYT this morning that one of the largest US food corp. is increasing its percentage of "good" foods like hummus. It's not all junk.

Yesterday morning on a Sunday morning program there was a story about one of those young computer geniuses who founded a start-up and sold it for a fortune. He also starated a shoe company. I think the name is Zappos. According to the program, it's a customer freindly company. Their operators will spend all the time that's needed to talk to a customer in order to satisfy the person's needs in shoes. The unique part about the company is that they've solved the major obstacle of selling clothes, etc. on the net: shipping and returns if the item doesn't fit properly. How? NO CHARGE!

Overseas business was not mentioned but if you're interested and have a phone plan that allows cheap international calls, you might want to call and see if the company has anything to your liking and would ship to Portugal. I'll double check the name when I get home and correct it tomorrow if it's not correct.

getmebackto150 on 06/07/2010:
that movie is the main reason that I've become a vegetarian... Not sure about the book, but the movie is VERY graphic... uuugghhh it made me shudder!

getmebackto150 on 06/07/2010:
I've really only been a vegetarian for about 3 months... I used to LOVE meat... At first I didn't give up fish... but I haven't had that either in over a month... I really thought that it would be SUPER hard, but its been much easier than I thought it would be... Especially b/c I am trying to lose weight anyway, so its easy to eat lots of veggies, beans, etc... Its also easier b/c my husband and I did this together at the same time... If he wasn't vegetarian, I think it would be a lot harder...

legcramps on 06/07/2010:
:-)

getmebackto150 on 06/07/2010:
I haven't eaten fish in about a month... maybe 1 and 1/2 months... I'm taking it a day at a time with fish... I'm trying not to eat it, but if for some reason I ever feel the need to stray from vegetarian, I would go for fish not meat... I'm hoping to stay away from fish as well though..

liza36 on 06/07/2010:
Great info from Spark People. Exercise is hard to incorporate. Thanks for sharing the article.

loveray on 06/07/2010:
yes, Foodinc changed the way I look at the US food industry. I knew for years that we were eating hormone-filled things and tried to stay away from non-organic meats and dairy as much as possible. However, the political and economic side of the story are just so disgusting- especially in a country that makes so much $ off of people being sick and unhealthy- it's positively outrageous. movies like this have been great in exposing some of the big culprits so that we can get our farm shares and local produce back in business. it's amazing what some awareness can bring about!

Hi girls! :)

Pretty busy day today. IKEA in the morning, we bought some cheap furnitures. :-)

Yesterday night I had to go to a birthday party, family reunion. It was held in a restaurant. Well, as I have not planned nothing of this, I had dinner before so I had a big stress there with family members coz I haven't eaten anything. They wouldn't believe I was filled and they thought I was making a protest of some kind. I got very upset with people - again.

Today's menu:

08H00 - a slice of WW bread, toasted w/ LF cheese cream and LF milk and some fruit puree 350 kcal

09H30 - a WW cereal bread w/ butter (200 kcal)

13H00 - 1 tuna tin (yeah, my mother-in-law gave me this so I ended up eating tins for 3 days, hehe) w/ veggies, a boiled egg, and salad, a soy dessert (350 kcal)

15H00 - big mistake: I couldn't stop!!: 250gr soy yogurt (300 kcal)

19H15 - same as in the morning, minus fruit puree and milk (250 kcal)

21H00 - a toast w/ LF cheese cream again...and veggies. (250 kcal)

Grand total: 1650 kcal

Progress as of today: 72.7 lbs lost so far, only 62.5 lbs to go!

Hello everyone!

I'm at work, 9am to 8pm.... How cool. Yesterday we went to the theatre, it was great! :-) We saw a crime comedy, "A body behind the door". :-)

Yesterday my mother-in-law told me that I shouldn't quit family gatherings because one day they wouldn't recognize me. Today there's one and I announced that I was working... I got a bit upset because of this... First of all, they may not believe but I do have an average of 21 work hours/weekday ... and then, for me, at this stage of my life, it is a huuuuge sacrifice to go there... You know how it goes. When there are a loooot of people in a veeeery small place, they sit, they eat, they sit more and eat more, so it's a 10 hour (normally, lunch and dinner) eating frenzy with cakes and unhealthy foods I cannot bear. Because I'm still the same, and when I'm bored I want to eat, you know how it goes!!!  So, add up this and the fact of a huge table filled with food - cakes and nuts, almonds, etc... During the first 5 months I could resist. But I still don't like it, I'm not a masochist.... and whenever they catch me in a more vulnerable state, who knows what can happen!

Today's menu:

08H00 - LF milk w/ LF cocoa powder and some black sugar, w/ cereals (300 kcal)

10H00 - 2 slices of WW toast (100 kcal), a fruit shot (100 kcal) and a fresh LF cheese (50 kcal)

13H00 - a looovely soup and organic, LF rice dessert (400 kcal)

15H00 - a bigger dose of 0,3% F, organic natural yogurt (200 kcal)

18H00 - dinner @work: 125gr steamed white rice with 1 can tuna a la naturelle (400 kcal)

Grand total: 1550 kcal

Good Friday! Thank you for all your nice comments yesterday, it means a looot to me! You're so good girls keeping up with me and your lifestyle change!

I'm soo messed up, yesterday was a holiday and I felt like Saturday and today I feel like Monday! GRRR... Well, I have to work on the weekend, so...

Yesterday I let myself lose: a plate of sushi, then I tried nepalese food, and then we went to our fav. ice-cream shop to indulge ourselves first time this year. The lady learnt to make ice-creams in Italy and she loves to experience new flavours. And my Man loves to be her guine-pig. :-) I love to eat her strange, non-fat, non-sugar ice-creams. This time she had aloe vera and vanille flavours. Sometimes she has indian spices ice-cream, with cinnamon and other naturally sweet spices. LOVELY! So, I thought: man, the scale will have its revenge for sure - but for my big surprise, it showed me below 115 today. 114,5 (252,4 lbs). I couldn't believe my eyes and I won't register that but now I can register 115 (253,5). Wonder when it's time to plateu...

Today's menu:

08H15 - cereals w/ LF milk - (250 kcal)

10H00 - a peach (YUMMY, it's SUMMERTIME!) (100 kcal)

11H00 - a fruit shot (100 kcal)

12H30 - a can of tuna a naturelle, 125 gr rice with salad (400 kcal)

14H00 - soy dessert (100 kcal)

17H00 - fruit shot and an apple (150 kcal)

21H00 - a coffee w/ milk and WW cookies (200 kcal)

Those ice cream flavors sound interesting. The gelato I had when I visited Italy a few years ago was SO good - can't compare it to anything here in the States. What is the Nepalese food like? I love Indian and SE Asian food. I hope you have a great weekend?

I saw your picture and I have to say I think you have the sweetest demeanor. I have a pretty hard time finding shoes myself. I am a huge size 11 in the feet. When we had to get black dress shoes for the private school I went to as a girl I always had to by mens dress shoes because none of the ladies shoes actually fit me. I still end up buying mens sized shoes most of the time since I have a wider food and womens sizes always pinch the front of my feet.

Anyways, Happy Friday! I am also spreading the word around for this contest I entered which I have the details for in my diary. I hope I have your vote.

Cheers love!

Goodie Morning :)

Today is a national holiday is Portugal. Sooo, my Man is still dreaming (of a Whiteee Christmas) and I'm already working. Hello...

Yesterday I bought a digital scale for food. I want to know exactly how much does a slice of bread weigh, etc.. I won't weigh everything, of course but some things are intriguing me. :)

Today I share a photo of 52-size me! Look at my fantastic shoes!! I love them! You know, I'm an unlucky woman, oversized in everywhere - my shoes are 43 EUR size, 9-9,5 USA size. It's is NEARLY impossible to buy women's shoes here, especially in Portugal where women are so small with small legs. So, again, I cannot go to the chinese and get me a so-so pair of shoes just for the season - I have to go to a special store, I have to spend loads of money, and I have a veeery limited choice... I'm so tired of this. I should open my store!

Today's foooood:

08H00 - a toast w/ LF cheese, paprika and a cup of LF milk 250 kcal

Hey there. Cute shoes! You must be tall, especially if you have a ruff time buying shoes. I am not so tall, just 5'5 but it hard to buy shoes also, because my feet are so wide. I have to get 10W which means 10 wide. Big Medicine, is really not a contest, it's a program thats all about people who check into this Hospital, under the care of a father and son surgical team. They show super obese people having the gastric bypass operation. I use to watch it a lot, but now I find it boring. Maybe you can Google, "Big Medicine" TV Show, and see just what it's all about. Google, is a search engine, for finding almost anything on the net. Wow, you are getting slimmer sis. What does your man, think about this big change? Soon, he won't let you out of the house! LOL You'll have to order everything, home delivery. Ha Ha :) We see eye to eye on the diet industry hoax. It's all a big joke. Take care & enjoy those new shoes. Wow 70 lbs !!! You are over half way to goal! :):):) Keep up the great job. Hugs!

You look good and I like the shoes! Let us know how the digital scale works out, I've never tried that.

tangalyn on 06/03/2010:
cute shoes, thx 4 postin pic :) have a great day

geevee on 06/03/2010:
I LOVE my digital food scale! It's such a big help in serving food. Sometimes I'm so far off in estimating. Like today I couldn't believe how much chicken was in 2.5 ounces.

As for size and buying clothes. If you think it's difficult to find something to fit in Portugal, you ought to see what it's like in China! The Chinese sales girls actually burst out laughing at the idea that I could possibly find something to

I know what you mean about the teeny tiny legs that Portuguese women have. There are a lot of Spaniards with those same legs. Must be genetic due to proximity.

What about buying shoes on the web? Have you explored that possibility?

KathyBlue on 06/03/2010:
I did explore that, but they ask a lot of money for transportation and then you still have guarantee issues - I'm reluctant to buy them online because they still are very expensive and you add these unadvantages...

nutri_fitt on 06/03/2010:
Awesome weight loss! You look great!

nosetwitch on 06/03/2010:
I can really see the difference in your pics. Great job!

I just don't think I'd like sardines, if they taste at all fishy. My 4 y.o. granddaugher will eat a whole can and I know they are really good for you. Sounds like they're good diet food - good for you!
