Hopefully a good day ahead... Tomorrow we're going to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D. I loved Avatar, it just put the 3D concept on a whole new level... Wonder how this Alice is, but I'm confident. Before that, I invited the family to eat in our apartment as I brought food from Hungary. I won't eat this food though because the sausages are high in cholesterol and calories of course... I have to invent something very soon...

Today's menu:

08h00 - low-fat milk with cereals and coffee substitute

10h30 - a yogurt

12h45 - chicken leg (without drumstick and without skin) and beetroots

16h30 - 1 pear

20h30 - veggie soup, 3 toasts with light cheese cream

Progress as of today: 26.9 lbs lost so far, only 69.2 lbs to go!

panda22 on 03/12/2010:
I loved Avatar as well! Can't wait to find out how you like Alice in Wonderland. I haven't seen it, but have heard different things from different people. Most good but some say it's eccentric. Have a great day and a fun weekend!

grumpy on 03/12/2010:
I wanna see Alice too! Glad you went back to tennis! Feels good! Have a great weekend!

getmebackto150 on 03/12/2010:
I went to see Alice in Wonderland last week and it was AWESOME! I didn't get to see avatar yet as my husband and stepdaughter went when I was working, but they really liked alice too. Its definitely eccentric but I really liked it!

nosetwitch on 03/12/2010:
I'm going to see Alice after work with the boyfriend. I definitely enjoyed Avatar too, although the plot was a bit weak. I've always loved the Alice in Wonderland story, so I'm pretty excited about it! To answer your question, I believe to maintain my current weight I have to consume about 2000 calories. I shoot for 1200 each day, knowing I will generally go over by a couple hundred.

panda22 on 03/12/2010:
Awesome menu today! That pear sounds good! I started feeding my son pears ((pureed for baby food of course)), and they've made me want one ever since!

nita51 on 03/13/2010:
Thanks sis,,, I will NEVER give up, I'm trotting a little slower, but I WILL make it,,, ALL THE WAY to the finish line. ( WE BOTH WILL MAKE IT ) I admit sometimes I feel a little low in spirit, but when I think about the joy and happiness of finally losing this weight,,,I get excited all over again. Good idea, about putting up the goal chart. That sounds like a great motivator. Hope you enjoy Alice in Wonderland. Hugs!

Good Morning!

I weighed in today:  289,687413 lbs! GREAT!

I had tennis! GREAT!
(I envy you girls, you do exercise everyday... I bought a video too, but I haven't touched it yet!!! I'm so weak on self-control! :( I do 2 times tennis per week and that's all I do for now.. I plan to do fitness from April... or maybe doing it at home without extra fees to pay, IF I have some more courage and willing by then, than I have now. Because I really dislike aerobics, I have problems with balancing and I cannot repeat exercises which are more complex than 1-2 moves.)

I'm back to work! Not too GREAT...

But: gonna go to a job interview next week, 2nd phase...

Today's menu:

 07h00 - 1 toast with a laughing cow low-chol cheese

12h00 - a yogurt, 59 kcal/180ml

12h45 - 1/2 grilled chicken breast  with beetroots, a tangerine

18h00 - a yogurt

20h00 - veggie soup, 2 toasts with laughing cow low-chol cheese

Well, this day was kinda repetitive but I had to finish the laughing cow cheese I had, because they were out-of-date already (2 days) and I don't like to throw out food.

Progress as of today: 26.9 lbs lost so far, only 69.2 lbs to go!

Kathy, I used to be like you in the sense of aerobics. I remember back in college i took an aerobic class and I really hated it since I did not have any coordination( or at least I thought). A couple of years later I lifting weights in a gym when I noticesd an aerobic class. The instructor would always encourage me to join but I was too keen about until one day I finally jioned and guess what I love it. I am now an step aerobics instructor for the past 11 years. If aerobic isn't for you, try other activiities such as walking, dancing, cycling, swimming, etc. Good luck and keep up the good work.

panda22 on 03/11/2010:
AWESOME loss! I think Tennis is a great way to get exercise in! Aerobics isn't my favorite but it's my only option when the baby is napping since I can't leave the house. I've been taking lots more walks now that the weather is better, and I enjoy those more than the videos because I get to be outside in the fresh air! You're doing fantastic! Have a great day =)

nosetwitch on 03/11/2010:
i'm with you hating exercise. walking seems to be the only thing i can tolerate right now, but i'm going to get an aerobics video soon. maybe jillian michaels, i don't know. take care. you're doing a great job!

loveray on 03/11/2010:
yea insomnia = no fun at all. but hopefully this means i will sleep like a rock tonight! sounds like fun with the tennis- i miss playing a lot.

But, I will be sleeping with my man tonight.. I missed him so much. Love is sweet kind of dependency, too. When everything's OK, at least...

Wonder how much I lost/earned during this week.. I tried to behave so I don't feel guilt at food level.. but I haven't done any excercise!

09h00 - a yogurt (normal, it was so sweet for my actual taste... ) with muesli

13h00 - pomelo, 4 toasts (small brown bread slices) with 4 chicken breast ham slices and a paprika

21h30 - veggie soup

Progress as of today: 23.6 lbs lost so far, only 72.5 lbs to go!

Sis, I know you did the best you could, given the circumstances. Just think,,,we're going to be two hot babes this summer. (smile) because we are winners. I wish you well, when you weigh in, but pat yourself on the back,,,,because you made it through some challenging times, while on your vacation. Have a safe trip home.

Good morning.

Snowy Monday here in Hungary... Yesterday I arrived around 19h, already dark, but glowing because of the frozen ice on the streets. That's something I miss... or not. Funny because in Lisbon we don't have snow (maybe in each 50 years or so) and all of my Portuguese friends envy me at the moment... and I'd been having the same feeling for them when I was living in Hungary ("No snow, wow, what a lucky town!").. A typical example of thinking that the neighbor's garden is greener.

Today's menu:

10h00 - low-fat milk with muesli

11h00 - 1 banana

13h00 - cooked chicken breast with cucumbers

19h00 - pomelo, a kornspitz toasted with squash soup (had sour cream, low-fat) and a bit of smashed, prepared chestnut with rum

Progress as of today: 23.6 lbs lost so far, only 72.5 lbs to go!

panda22 on 03/08/2010:
Hey there! I actually used 2 bananas in a fruit salad, but have the other 2 in the freezer for the soft serve =) Am planning on making it tonight! Hope all is well, be careful in that ice!

nosetwitch on 03/08/2010:
i had to look up muesli to find out what it is. looks yummy and nutritious. okay, now on to look up pomelo and kornspitz.... have a good day!

nita51 on 03/09/2010:

I'm leaving my friends today, we had 2 nice days together. On Wed I'm going back to PT so I'll be staying with my mum for the rest of the time. Today I'm going to visit my  uncles and cousins... but no more temptations for me.

Today's menu:

09h00 - 2 homemade bread toasts with a slice of ham and veggies, milk and some cereals (Hungarian breakfasts are richer than Portuguese, for sure..but life's different here. Life starts earlier and finishes earlier than in Portugal)...

13h00 - cooked carrots with a grilled chicken leg and some cucumber. Dessert: pomelo fruit

20h00 - veggie soup (it had sour cream, but the light one) and pomelo fruit...

Progress as of today: 23.6 lbs lost so far, only 72.5 lbs to go!

An other day. :-)

I'm at my friends' house today. My best friends are here in Budapest, and I always visit them for a day or two. Two women from the primary school and their families. Both of them have kids (one has a daughter, the other has a boy - and of course they had already arranged the marriage . We are Catholic, so this marriage would only realize if the two would agree, but it would be fun!!!  And even a friendship as strong as ours would be great, but it rarely happens between boys and girls. And they only have 3- ages, so there'll be teenagerhood still.... enough time!).
Basically, the only member of this friendhood who doesn't have a child still, is me. I'm younger, too! But only 1 year so I'm already losing.  I planned though: diet, losing weight, being healthy enough to bear and raise a child (no use having a child and dying in diabetes or sg overweigh-related disease). Then I still want to study more 2 years. Around 33-34, I'd like a child. My man will be in his 40s by then... Forties! Sounds soo unbelievable. I am 28, turning into 29 this year. I was looking at my earlier photos and I realized that I've been changing.. I'm actually OLDER. In my tens and twenties I feel like immortal... until lately I started to realize I am not...

Today's menu:

09h00 - a yogurt (0% fat)

11h00 - a tangerine

12h00 - a slice of homemade bread (half brown), toasted with garlic, a bit of margarine and a chicken sausage (total around 300 kcal)

16h00 - chicken paprika with veggies and some curd, two pancakes with no-sugar-added, home made plum jam, pomelo

21h30 - two slices of homemade bread (the same as at 12h...) with 3 chicken sausages and veggie

This was the most dangerous day so far, eating frenzy with my friends.. :-) But, I'm still inside limits and I resisted cakes and chocolates... Fat is a bit above limit but I'll make up, no time for worries...

Progress as of today: 23.6 lbs lost so far, only 72.5 lbs to go!

girlnearsixteen on 03/06/2010:
Don't worry. It's not a competition about who has kids the first - not that I know all that much about it- But my mum had me much later than my friends parents but it doesn't matter because she looks younger than them when really she's about 5 years older than most of them. It's all about self-maintenance and it looks like you're already half way there by looking after yourself.

Playmate on 03/06/2010:
I know what you mean about the age thing, I feel so ancient now (Im going to be 31 this summer) and I wonder what happened to all the years that just seemed to fly by. Have a great day!

nosetwitch on 03/06/2010:
Thanks for the comment. Yes, I definitely need to eat more veggies/fruit. I'm going to start adding broccoli and more bananas, so you'll be seeing that on my menu. :) Have a good day!

Hello all! A new day!

Everyone respects my diet so far! It's a very comforting feeling...

Today my menu:

9h00 - 0,5% milk with muesli

12h00 - a blood orange (yuuck...)

13h30 - Entry: 3 slices of toast (brown bun, I had it from yesterday:-)) with 3 slices of ham.
Main dish: 2 slices of grilled fish with mexican style (frozen thingie) veggies (corn, carrot and grean bean), cooked with salt and paprika and some sour cream on it (12% fat, so I used a really small portion)

19h00 - a yogurt

21h30 - an apple

And some reading I found rather interesting: http://www.neversaydiet.com/slideshow/11-surprising-foods-weight-loss

Progress as of today: 23.6 lbs lost so far, only 72.5 lbs to go!

Hey Kathy, Im from Arizona in the US, but Im part Mexican, and my bf *who I live with* and his family are from Honduras.

selina on 03/05/2010:
I love blood orange, except that they tend to be a bit more sour than the average sort... I had it for the first time in Sicily a couple of years ago. They grow a lot of blood orange there... what are mexican veggies? Cactus? I know someone who eats grated cactus' leaves...

selina on 03/05/2010:
i know... nothing is better than pasteis de Belem... but I don't have a choice... and yes, I have studied (and learned, i like to think) French - that's the language they speak in Geneva. BTW, there are 4 official languages in Switzerland: French, Suiss German (which is TOTALLY different from the German in Germany), Italian and Romanche.

panda22 on 03/05/2010:
Kathy! Thank you so much for the recipe, it sounds good! Coincidentally I have 4 bananas sitting in my kitchen right now and was just thinking of a way that I could get them eaten before they go bad, and the ice cream sounds perfect. Thank you for thinking of me =) You are correct about the ice cream in the US being very choc full of calories and such...it is a definite comfort food. I don't think I would even try any type the flavor of any fish haha, but I will give the banana recipe a whirl and let you know! Your menu is great for the day, you always eat such a nice variety of healthy meals. Have a great weekend!

THANKS for all the nice comments!!! :-)

Today's very cooold. I feel like in Alaska (so, if anyone remembers the story on the other day (US scientists working in Alaska, 5000 kcal burnt daily...), I can tell I burn more and more each day. Ehehehe...

Today's menu:

09h00 - a cup of 0,5 %fat milk

14h30 - grilled chicken breast, an egg and lots of veggies

18h00 - three small slices of a cereal bun, with 3 slices of ham and veggies

I have much more veggies here than in Portugal (the veggies I really love, and used to, like Hungarian paprika and the different kinds of beetroots...)

Progress as of today: 23.6 lbs lost so far, only 72.5 lbs to go!

loveray on 03/04/2010:
why can you only have 2 eggs? cholesterol? hope you are having a good day.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/04/2010:
i don't use a scale often at all. i probably haven't stepped on it for at least a month, maybe up to 2 months or even a bit longer. I don't use it because i can judge if my weight is up or down based on my clothes and how they fit. The numbers are just annoying to see and sometimes they trigger to me to binge no matter if my weight is up or down! so, who cares what the number says...i can tell if i'm progressing or not.

I do what my weight is around. That number is approximately 135. which is better than this time last year, when it was WAY TOO high...approaching over 140. which is overweight for a short person like myself. Hopefully, my weight is more near 130.

A goal of mine, although not so important bc like i said the numbers don't matter to me that much, it to weigh 125 in the next couple months.

no rush...i certainly go at my own pace!

Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/04/2010:
your lunch sounds yummy! and feel free to ask me any questions you may have, it just sometimes takes me awhile to respond! :-)

7 Celsius degs, sunshine, happiness (my mother is extremely happy to see me, and me too to see her.) Normally I come twice a year.

Today's menu was very strange because I had a 6 hour plane trip and I refused on-board food... (PROUD!!).

so, basically I had a yogurt in the morning, around 7 AM. Next thing, at 11H I had an apple. Then around 6PM I had 2 toasts (already in my mom's house) with 3 slices of meat (not too low-fat but it was OK, like a salami, around 50gr alltogether) with a tomato, a paprika and some beetroots (I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE BEETROOT!!!)

Around 8 PM I will have a yogurt and that's all for today.

Anyway, here in Hungary dieting is very hard. I went to a huge supermarket (like TESCO) and it was a hell for me. The yogurt shelves, do you believe they don't have LOW-FAT section?  And none of the other food-types has... meat, bread, etc. They only have an ORGANIC section, and organic doesn't mean low-fat, nooooo, not at all. Soy is very expensive in Hungary. But I managed to get a liter of 0,5% fat milk... not bad. And I haven't bought any fruit... AAARGH... so expensive!

Progress as of today: 23.6 lbs lost so far, only 72.5 lbs to go!

chidogs on 03/03/2010:
Hey, enjoy the family, and don't stress the other. Just eat small amounts. I know some really tasty foods have originated in Hungary!
