 Hello to you.

So....scale announced 156 this morning and today began the 'official' diet to get to 140 by Friday (8 weeks from today) Christmas day.  Approximately 1200 calories today...grits and 2 scrambled eggs 250, 1/2 BK Whopper and small fries 700, broccoli 50, unsalted cashews 200.  That's it for today and I am full.  Walked for hours.  Prayed not to eat anymore today, too.

Hope you are having a good day.

I have never had a good honeybun. or really any honeybun that i remember! probably a more southern thing!

Below, in your entry, those are a HECK OF A LOT of requirements to get to 140! there should hopefully be some nice things to look forward to...and some breaks from time to time. :)

that whopper fries combo...it's calling my name. i think i'm going to buy fries tomorrow for halloween...OR, i can eat all the food that's in my fridge (wayyyy better idea!?) and maybe buy some discounted candy? or should i wait until november to get the candy??

Maria7 on 10/31/2020:
If you can find discounted candy, that would be nice.

Donkey on 10/31/2020:
My scale is up today as well, but you have inspired me to tackle the numbers in November!!!

Maria7 on 10/31/2020:
Good!

 Hello to you.

So....the ice cream is gone...Hubby had the last of it last nite after I had the next to the last of it.   Goodbye, fattening friend (not friend, that is)...

The honeybuns are still around and I will have to simply 'deal with them' and resist them because I have to keep them to take some to Mama, as she loves them.  So I will just have to discipline myself concerning them.  Tomorrow is '8' weeks until Christmas.  If I were to lose 2 pounds per week for the 8 weeks, I could be at 140 on Christmas Day (my biggest goal that I have achieved before and was told by 2 different specialists that it was the right weight for me to be at that time...altho that was about 20 years ago...).  How hard would that be to get back to 140 again?  As long as I have 'something' to eat and stay active and stay around 1200 to 1300 calories per day, I think this might be achievable.  3 meals of 300 calories each and 3 snacks of 100 calories each (or 2 of 150 calories each or one of 300 calories) would be 1200 calories per day.  The meals will have to be low sodium, because high sodium makes me bloated and looks on the scale like I weigh more than I actually do, which discourages me to stay the course) which means no high-sodium frozen dinners at the grocery stores.  Which means I would have to make up the meals from homemade and freeze them til reheated to eat, or else cook low sodium meals each day.  Also, the meals would need to lean toward lower carb with very limited bread, if any, allowed.  Less starch.  Flour is not a friend to me for losing weight.  That is the main thing I have to avoid is bread. Prayer is most important of all. Stopping eating at about 5 or 6 pm each day and praying to not eat any more for the day is essential to me.   If I do these things, I 'might' have success!

Hope you are having a good day.

I never could lose 2 pds a week, maybe 1 at best. But I know others who do. I think my metabolism is naturally on the slow side. Good luck!

Maria7 on 10/29/2020:
Yes, usually I, too, am doing well to lose 1 pound a week, but will see how it goes.

legcramps on 10/29/2020:
Ah, bread. The culprit behind so many issues LOL. Good luck with your goals!

Maria7 on 10/29/2020:
Thank you! And I LOVE bread!

Jacky82020 on 10/29/2020:
Used to have a wonderful double loaf bread machine, Smelled so yummy baking!

Maria7 on 10/30/2020:
Sounds wonderful!

grannyannie on 10/30/2020:
Yes, carbs are the enemy of us all! I have a bread machine and used to be make beautiful loaves of whole grain seeded bread and hubby would have toast every morning. Then discovered he has celiacs so more bread. He hates gluten free bread.

Maria7 on 10/30/2020:
Oh, wow! Whole grain seeded bread! YUM!!!!!!

Donkey on 10/30/2020:
Unfortunately, carb control seems to be the healthy way to go. And I feel - this is just my opinion, BUT - that this becomes harder in the winter time. So I try to lean towards "healthier" carbs like sweet potatoes, squashes, beans, which are all great, but at the end of the day, they are still carbs. Still, better those than eating 4 slices of bread.

Yes, some foods in our pantries we just have to learn to live with. I hear ya.

Maria7 on 10/30/2020:
That is an outstanding idea...to have healthier carbs like sweet potatoes, squashes, etc...yes, so much better than bread, which bread can be bloating. Thank you.

Hello to you.  I am still weighing 156.0 as of this morning.  I have 'excuses' as to why I can't seem to go lower right now.  My latest excuse to myself for indulging my desires for sweets is that I don't think it is a good idea to diet right now with the pandemic going on.  Might want to have a few extra calories.  Ha ha.

I visited Mama at her window this morning at her nursing home, and we talked over phones to each other as we looked at each other through the glass window with her propped up in her bed nearby but not real close to the window.  I took her the usual bag of food that I take to her that she likes best and also I had gone to stores (wore 2 masks inside them) and bought her some personal items that she had told me yesterday that she needed and I had them in the bag for her as well, and that was set on her bed by her Nurse and opened for her and each item was taken out and was shown to her.  I also bought her a pretty Christmasy (they are already selling Christmas items in stores as you all know) little round ball that has a light inside it, that runs on batteries and it changes from one color to another one, repeatedly.  She loved it and told me that it made her "happy' to watch it as she was looking at it set in front of her.  Also I had bought her a little plastic snowman with the hat on, that sings a Christmas song and it also lights up with a continual changing colors light in it, too.  Put a smile on her face.  I love my Mama!

I came home and Hubby had washed my car.  Smile.  I love my Hubby!

Hope you all have a good day.

grannyannie on 10/26/2020:
Good you visit your mama but it's a shame you can't hug her.

It's very hard to behave during the pandemic!

legcramps on 10/26/2020:
That's so nice that you brought your mother some gifts and that they made her smile. It must be lonely for her.

Donkey on 10/27/2020:
I think you're doing great! :-)

Horn_of_plenty on 10/27/2020:
awww that is so nice!!! I know that residents in nursing homes don't usually get enough stimulation so i'm sure the lights and song will be so good for her ! so thoughtful of you to bring those gifts. my grandmother had some favorite music and my dad brought her a CD to listen to back when she was in the nursing home.

That's so nice of hubby to wash your car :) I have a fast and easy car wash station at the gas station by me. It soaps and suds and washes all for $5....now that it's getting cold, i'm not sure i will want to use it! it's fun for the nice weather, though!

Hello to you.  I am still sitting at 156.0 this morning.  Could have been less but I gave in to 2 scrambled eggs with cheese and bread last nite.  I felt hungry...that's my excuse.

Doesn't sound bad. I eat cheese everyday - full fat but a small amount.

Have a lovely day, Maria!

Maria7 on 10/24/2020:
I eat the full fat kind, too. It is SO good! I like extra sharp Kraft chunk cheese. What kind do you like?

Donkey on 10/24/2020:
The later small meal probably showed up on the scale the next morning, so I don't think your weigh-in was entirely accurate.

Also, if you are hungry - truly hungry - in the later night, then I do think you should eat something. I've been there myself. I ask myself, "Am I truly hungry that I would eat carrot sticks or a hard boiled egg?" If the answer is "No I want chips", then I'm not hungry. If carrot sticks sound DELICIOUS, then I'm hungry. And if I can't fall asleep because of that, I'll eat.

Husband usually has a late night snack - which drives me nuts because he NEEDS to lose a LOT of weight - but I think that having something in his tummy helps him sleep better, which is very difficult for him because of his constant back pain.

I bet you're actually more at 154.

Maria7 on 10/24/2020:
Thank you. Yes, makes sense. I probably am at 154...I have been having a very high-sodium diet lately, too. Thanks for the encouragement.

Horn_of_plenty on 10/25/2020:
well, yes, that sounds like a good meal to eat and satisfying! i'm glad you ate something nutritious, like donkey said!

Maria7 on 10/26/2020:
Thank you.

Hello to you.  I do come here and read your posts most days, even if I don't do a post for the day.  Looks like all of you are doing quite well.   Happy for you!

Today is Hubby's and my 31st wedding anniversary.  So thankful to the Lord.    My Hubby is wonderful!  I am blessed.

I visited Mama at her window today, as I usually do most every day.  She is doing pretty well and thank you for your prayers for her.

I have within the past few days, regained some weight I had lost, due to heavy nite-time snacking.  So, I am trying to get that turned back around and get back to where I was recently at 152.  I so enjoy eating at night while watching tv but the next morning, the scale is not agreeable.  Smile.  So, time to change that bad habit...again...and not give in anymore.  I was totally thrilled with my recent '152' and only to throw it away for nite-time snacking...called 'NOT SMART'!!!!!  There is something called 'Eating Smart' and then there is something called 'NOT SMART'...and I've got to reverse course and get back to where I was with the 152 recently....it was not my goal weight, but I was happy that I was getting closer to goal...So, a little ice cream here and a honey bun there and some extra cashew nuts here and a little chocolate candy there and within a 'VERY FEW' days...there on the scale, is the 'unreward'!!!!

Hope you all have a good day.

Night time snacking is tough to quit doing!

Maria7 on 10/18/2020:
I always let night time snacking draw me back in again...nevermind the consequences..I throw away my newfound joy about having reached a certain weight on the scale, for what amounts to maybe 30 minutes total of eating lots of sweets at night...I've got to do better than this.

Jacky82020 on 10/18/2020:
I wish I could give up nite time eating, but I can’t. I’ve read good studies that say ppl who eat same number of calories as nite eaters lose more weight. I try to starve all day to compensate for nocturnal eating.

Maria7 on 10/21/2020:
Old habits are hard to break but it can be done. I'm not 'there' yet, but working on it. Smile.

Donkey on 10/18/2020:
Oh that late night eating!!! And it doesn't even have to be that "late"! This is something that I struggle with A LOT. Having decaf coffee was helping for a while, but it's not a solution, frankly. I guess, go to bed right after dinner, LOL. However, I love to eat and watch TV in bed, so I guess that wouldn't stop me. Something comforting in this, and now that the days are getting shorter and colder, the struggle seems to be more intense.

Maria7 on 10/21/2020:
It is an ongoing battle, struggling to not give in to nite-time eating. Snacking is so comforting!

Horn_of_plenty on 10/19/2020:
Happy 31st to you and Hubby! that's a wonderful achievement!

haha, well, at least your snacks were of the BEST taking kinds and that you enjoyed them before cutting back a bit :)

good to hear from you!

i have been eating sorta poorly lately...just not into the veggies. I will turn that around though, soon.

Maria7 on 10/21/2020:
Thank you, HOP! Maybe you could try fixing veggies a different way than what you are used to...just an idea...

 Hello to you.

152 on scale on scale again this morning...YAY!!!...

It is a beautiful, sunny morning here in SC.  To be in the 70's again today.  Nice.

I have been a busy bee this morning, cooking and cleaning the house and doing laundry.  For breakfast, I cooked sausage, egg, grits and plain toast for Hubby and an egg, wheat toast, and grits for me and I had orange juice to drink and we sat at our kitchen table eating and listening to the radio together, as we usually do.  We have it set on a talk show channel that discusses the latest news and the ones talking have lots of comments.  Pretty interesting...sometimes, that is.

My goal today is to finish getting the house cleaned and go visit Mama at her window at the nursing home.

Hope you all have a good day.

I buy the kind that cooks in 5 minutes in the pot but you can also get the kind that comes in packs in a box and microwave them, too. They are better if you eat something with them, whether butter or margerine, eggs, or sausage. They are sort of a breakfast comfort food but nutritious and delicious!

 Hello to you.

Saw the '152' on the scale this morning...YAY!!!...

Just got back home a little while ago from taking Mama her bag of food treats and other items that I usually take to her almost daily, and visiting and talking with her over phone on the other side of her glass window where we can see each other from her being in her bed.  She's not feeling too well, but making the best of it.  Thank you for your prayers for her.

It is a nice, cool, autumn day here in SC.  My favorite season.  Leaves are falling but we don't get our 'natural Christmas trees' as I call them, when leaves change colors on the trees, until November, next month.

Have a blessed day.

Yes, I have been visiting her almost daily, regularly, outside at her window during this pandemic, just as I did inside her room before the pandemic. The only thing that changed was not being allowed inside the nursing home for almost 7 months now. Glad you are doing well.

Yes, she is. Yes, it means a lot to both of us to at least see each other through her window that is nearby her bed and talk to each other on the phone while looking at each other. Smile.

 Hello to you.

Scale says 153 today.  Okay with this.

Currently, I am dealing with grief.  Our Daugther moved out a couple months ago, to another county a long ways from here, after she had lived with us for six years.  I can still only visit Mama at the window of her nursing home room as I stand outside looking in at her as she lies on her bed in the room, barely able to see me at the window and we talk on the phone to each other that they usually, but not always, bring to her.  Hubby and I cannot take a vacation and we've not had one in 5 years.  Might as well get it all out.  I am also grieving over not going to church during this pandemic, as Hubby and I do not feel it is safe to do so.  It feels like a lot of things I took for granted before the pandemic, are no longer available and it has been over 6 months since I have been inside Mama's room to visit with her and give her a hug.  I know I am not the only one grieving.  Hubby and I used to enjoy going out to eat inside a restaurant and we have not done that in months, either, as we do not feel safe to.  Some of you are grieving way more than I am and with good reason.  Maybe I am just feeling sorry for myself when I should be thankful that this is all I am sad about.  Smile.  So, now I have let this out and maybe I can begin to feel better.  Thank you for bearing with me.

Have a blessed day.

I totally understand that this "new COVID life" is very isolating.

With church, can you go to sit in the pews when there isn't a service? So less people or extremely small amount are there and you can pray without all the bodies and extra germs / everyone breathing on you? or is it closed?

maybe, instead of church, there is something you can watch on tv...services that are broadcasted? like the ones in Salt Lake City...?

just wondering, maybe you have already tried these alternatives and do not like them!

maybe there is something special you can do at home for now, with hubby too, prayers together?

Maria7 on 09/14/2020:
HOP, I think what I am missing most in church is the fellowship of being with other believers in a family-type atmosphere, worshiping the Lord together, listening to the sermon being preached together, planning meals to eat together, planning Christmas parties, etc. Mainly the 'togetherness', I think. Hubby and I do pray together daily and I have my morning devotionals and prayer after I get up in the mornings, but for many years, my life was all about being involved in church in different capacities...teaching Sunday School, playing the piano and singing, etc. I keep hearing that the Covid 19 could linger for years and I wonder will things ever be back to the old normal? Thank you for your suggestions. They mean a lot to me, HOP.

Donkey on 09/14/2020:
Funny that you wrote this yesterday, because I was feeling quite a similar way. Most of the time, I'm ok with the "new normal" but yesterday I really felt.... sad? Uncomfortable? Frustrated?

Hard to explain, but your post really did hit home for me. Felt it in my heart.

Maria7 on 09/14/2020:
Thank you, Donkey for your comment to me. Just knowing that I am not alone in this feeling of grieving helps, although I am sad that so many others, including you, are grieving, too. I do thank the Lord for taking care of us all and I do have faith that He is always near and that He knows what is best for all of us. Thanks again. (Smile.)

HUGS!!!! Social isolation, no eating out which is "date time" for connection, watching your mom not always get a phone which is vital to happiness and communication between family members, a daughter deciding to move out of reach during very uncertain times... You've got a few things going. Sharing invites love in. Big hugs.

 Hello to you.

Holding at plateau 153.  I'm actually okay with this for now because I always believe that 'Not gaining IS progress' when on a little plateau.

Today, I went to the Dollar Tree to get a few items and I noticed that their rice which had been 2 pounds for one dollar was sold out and the shelf empty where it had been located.  So, I decided to buy 5 large cans of apple pie filling.  Not to use now but to save in preparedness. You may ask what good are 5 cans of apple pie filling?  Well, those five cans could one day make the difference in your having something to eat or not for a few days, especially if you store white self-rising flour and some cooking oil, too, in which case you could make apple pies and bake in the oven or even you could make apple fritters that you cook on the stove top and enjoy the canned apples even more.  A little sugar and cinnamon go a long way, too in making them even more delicious.  So many people only keep enough to eat for two or three days in their homes.  If for whatever reason they were unable to obtain foods from their local grocery stores for say, a period of weeks or even months, what would they do?  What would YOU do?  Would you go to your neighbors and hope they would have extra to feed you until you could get food?  What if there was a lockdown and they refused to answer their doors?  So many people are totally dependant on grocery stores staying stocked with food.  Trusting that nothing could ever happen to prevent them from their almost daily excursions to the grocery stores to purchase what they have decided they are currently hungry to eat on any given day.  Is this wise?  Think about it.

September is National Preparedness Month.  Here is a link for newbies to advise in getting prepared:  https://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/shopping-storing/emergency-foods

Have a blessed day.

I find myself keeping a full pantry- lots of soup, pasta, sauce- just in case we get locked down again.

Maria7 on 09/09/2020:
Very smart and wise.

Donkey on 09/09/2020:
My problem is that if I have a full pantry, I end up binge eating out of it. Still, your advice is good. I'll keep trying.

My problem isn't with a full pantry, is it?

Maria7 on 09/09/2020:
Maybe stock items you are not currently tempted to eat.

Horn_of_plenty on 09/09/2020:
nice job thinking about being prepared! lately my fridge is not very full because i'm saving cash...not wanting to spend lots right now!...but you did good as it's the dollar tree! that's the right place to bulk up!

Maria7 on 09/09/2020:
Happy Birthday to you, HOP!

legcramps on 09/09/2020:
My fridge is never full, but I do keep a full pantry of canned items!
