Hello....

Having coffee this morning...coffeeyellowmuganimgif.gif image by autumn1234567Have some coffee with me?

I was happy to see 148 on the scale this morning...lowest I have been in a long time, so in celebration, I changed my 150 DD goal I did have listed to 148.

nativeamericanwomanandcanoeanimgif.gif image by autumn1234567

Plan today, Lord willing, is stay on track with calories and eating wisely, also visit a grocery store nearby that is having closing out sales, among other things to do later.  I don't have to cook today because I cooked enough yesterday for 2 days...meatloaf, creamed potatoes, and small green peas.  I took Mama a plate of it yesterday and while she didn't care for the potatoes nor the peas, she ate all of the meatloaf, surprisingly, since she doesn't eat much usually.

I hope we all have a good day.

Every day with our Lord Jesus is a good day!

Congratulations! Consistency is key! It really is. We have cravings, we all have stress -- but do we stay on track and stick to our goals? Or do we go off the deep end and eat into abandonment? I've done both.

Dinner sounds yummy!

Maria7 on 10/30/2019:
Lol...SO TRUE!!! Thanks for the encouragement, too. I agree with you 100%! Have a nice day!

Hello....

Having usual mug of hot coffee this morning...coffeeyellowmuganimgif.gif image by autumn1234567Have some coffee with me?...How do you like your coffee?...

I have a new goal weight but won't post it officially in the goal weight box above until I am further confident I can do it again...it is 140 by Christmas Eve.

nativeamericanwomanandcanoeanimgif.gif image by autumn1234567

Warning...RAVE is below...

How many times have I achieved 140 goal, only to throw it away just for tastes of flavors I thought I craved?  Because, personally I do not believe our being overweight has anything to do with craving to fill ourselves up with food...because that is not 'true hunger'...instead, for me, it has always been about 'flavors'...Does that make sense to you?  I would crave chocolate (flavor), so I end up eating 2 pints of chocolate ice cream?  How smart is that (not!)?  Who intentionally stuffs themselves with something they know is bad for them?  (ME!)  I lost close to 30 lbs one year and the next year after reaching my goal that I sweated, struggled, and yearned for, I quickly threw it away to be overweight again!  How smart was that???

It is a FIGHT, my dear Friends!  For this girl, it is usually a CRAVINGS FIGHT!  I want, I want, I want...No, YOU DON'T!!!  You just THINK you do!!!  There are many ways to quench a craving...it is called 'eat smart' of which we are all well aware of...so why do we do the opposite???  We expect to get to our goals by any other way?  We have to be smarter than our desires!  Some things are NOT GOOD for us!  Truly!  And I am not talking about only what we eat, either.  Stress is not good for us, yet some of us (ME!) must crave that, too 'cause I sure do endure a lot of it most days when I could simply trust the LORD to take care of whatever the stress usually is (Family) and live my life a whole lot happier and more stress-free!  Does stress cause us to eat unhealthy or overeat?  I would say yes at first glance, but upon further contemplation, I would say NO emphatically!  Because, dear Friends, stress is a 'bad influence' on getting to and staying at our goals but it is NOT a PREVENTER!  Instead, it is WE who are the preventers, as in yours truly here!  'I' have prevented myself from staying at my goal weight by cringing over things I had no control over and comforting myself with unhealthy foods in large amounts and sacrificing my hard-earned accomplishments in the meanwhile!  So, guess what???  I deserved what I got for my lack of discipline in not yielding to temptaions!

So, dear Friends...Do I want to say that 'if' I get to my goal once again that I will stay at it?  Oh, you bet I do!  Dare I say it?  Dare I???

---------------------------------

I thank the Lord for His help for all of us.

.........................................

Hope you are having a good day.  Every day with our Lord Jesus is a good day!

Love, Maria

I LOVE this post, on so many levels! I may comment more on your insights, but I want to digest (no pun intended) what you have written a little longer. You are so SPOT ON with what you write here.

Maria7 on 10/29/2019:
Thank you, Donkey! I did get a little carrried away but I just felt like I really wanted to say all that I wrote for whomever might need it, which very much includes yours truly! I hope you are having a good day at work and don't get much snow to have to shovel. We are getting rain here today. Take care.

BearCountryGG on 10/29/2019:
I also love your post Maria.....it speaks volumes....I also get in my own way......I sometimes wonder that if I had learned sooner to delay gratification ( when it comes to food)...as well as I had learned it about general life...if I would have ever had a weight issue. I will say one thing........If it had ever crossed my mind that loose skin would be an issue after losing weight...I NEVER would have gained it in the first place... I think the loose skin sometimes triggers me to eat a few more calories...LOL

Maria7 on 10/29/2019:
Thank you, Linda. I think of the times I have reached goal weight and quickly thrown it away for food binges, which did little for comfort, nor for food entertainment eating while watching tv late at night, especially when I got on the scale the next morning.

legcramps on 10/29/2019:
I have so many opinions about intuitive eating / comfort eating / binging /willpower etc. but I agree with your post for the most part. It is certainly a struggle! You have done a fabulous job :)

Maria7 on 10/29/2019:
Thank you. Your discipline in workouts regularity as well as what they consist of, that you share with the rest of us is very inspiring to read.

Well done! You have managed to break through the 150 line. Welcome to the 140's!

All of the leaves are changing colors - beautiful reds and yellows. We are starting - just starting - to get leaves falling down.

Maria7 on 10/27/2019:
Thank you! It feels 'surreal' to be in the 140s! Been a long time. We've had lots of leaves falling, been raking and bagging them and taking them off, and in November looking forward to red and yellows here. So happy for you that you are enjoying them now. I love this time of year!

Hello to you..Hoping you are doing well today.

Back to 150 again this morning, so progress again to be back to where I was.

I have been having a lot of responsibilities going on regarding family and am doing well to maintain where I am at today, so I am okay with that for now.

Hope you are having a good day.

it's good for you to know that you can do those responsibilities and help others. that people have relied on you :) wonderful thing, although it may be stressful what you have been doing.

glad yo hear you are maintaining. i love maintaining as well.

Donkey on 10/12/2019:
Are you OK handling these responsibilities? Sometimes they can be very stressful. Do take a little time for yourself, even if it's a 5 minute pause, or using some nice lotion.

Hello to you..Hoping you are doing well today.

Scale weighed me at 152 this morning, so I am up a little.

I have been indulging in ice cream and cake lately and having a few extra calories here and there, so now I have gained two pounds, naughty me!  Haven't been concentrating on getting to 148.  So, that is 'off the table' for now and I will just concentrate on getting back to 150.

Hope you are having a good day.

Every day with our Lord and Saviour Jesus is a good day!

BearCountryGG on 10/10/2019:
You can do it Maria....the weight that went on last comes off the fastest.....

legcramps on 10/10/2019:
Have a good day today

Horn_of_plenty on 10/12/2019:
i have also indulged some days, but, they were between days where my calories were lower, so nothing happened and i have even lost a pound lately due to losing appetite time to time...seems a good time of year for me is the fall in terms of weight.

sometimes, i try to "fit dessert in." - but not often, since i like to volume eat and dessert is generally not a "volume" food as it's more like a dense, rich type of thing....

but, i do indulge in chocolates frequently as they have a smaller serving size than things like cake, so it's easier to fit in small servings of something tasty than a big serving, as i am sure you totally understand. so, in general, when talking about sweets - i prefer individually wrapped things that go by a serving size...so i can even eat them after a meal at work and not at all feel like i messed up the whole day but indulging...more like it keeps me on track than off!

I'm beginning to think the same thing myself...I also add sweets and count them...but I seem stalled tight now too.

Maria7 on 09/27/2019:
Yes, it probably has us stalled. But we with us doing lower calories per day, we have to have something to help with energy and cravings.

Donkey on 09/28/2019:
That is very interesting about sweets may be holding you back, even if you are within your calorie range. That is definitely something to chew on - no pun intended!

You had some very good things in your response to Bear. I made a couple of comments on your comment!

Horn_of_plenty on 09/29/2019:
i guess sometimes sweets have more calories than we think they have, unless it's written on the package....

it's nice though to have some sweets in the diet...i do better that way.

Hello to you...having a cup of coffee...won't you join me?....I am so happy we are in this journey to healthier weights together here at DD.  After all, our journeys are really all about 'life-style changes'...And little things mean a lot.  We may not realize it but they really do.  Sometimes it is so easy to become heavily focused on big things and ignore little things.  We all do it sometimes.

I was thinking about how small changes make big differences.  How did a lot of us get to be overweight?  Was it because of overeating by a lot every day?  Was it because of overeating by a little every day?  Well, it all comes down to habits.  Sometimes we consume foods with little to no thought about their calories amounts and some we consume thinking they really make no difference because their calories are so tiny.  Take, for example, a teaspoon of sugar which is only 15 calories.  What is 15 calories you might ask?  Well, offhand it doesn't seem like much to even think about or consider...  But, for instance, say a person likes to have 2 coffees in the mornings and only puts one little teaspoon of sugar in each coffee each morning.  Well...big deal...30 calories of sugar total for 2 coffees...what is that???  I will tell you what 30 calories a day EXTRA over the daily amount of maintain calories is...  30 calories a day X 30 days (1 month app.) equals 900 calories.  1  month of 900 extra calories X 12 months (a year) equals 10,800 calories.  10,800 calories divided by 3500 calories (1 pound) equals a little over 3 pounds gained in one year if those 2 little teaspoons of sugar are consumed daily over the amount of calories consumed for maintenance.  Just sayin'...something to think about...

Hope you are having a good day.  Every day with our Lord and Saviour Jesus is a good day!

Love, Maria

Donkey on 09/12/2019:
Don't mess with my coffee, Maria!!!!

Just kidding -- believe it or not, your post was so timely, as I was thinking about the very same thing this morning while making MY coffee!

In fact, you were probably posting this at the very same time I was making my cup, thinking about the "hidden" extra calories in every cup.

I can't drink black coffee straight. I have tried it, but it's too hard on the stomach. It would be great if I could. So all I can do is try to be aware of the calories.

I do find that often, I can curb hunger with a cup of coffee. It might be the extra calories in the cream that hold me. Plus the caffeine, of course.

Maria7 on 09/12/2019:
Yes, I know what you mean about drinking drinks instead of eating, to curb hunger. In cases like that, you would probably come out ahead depending on what you were avoiding eating. I do the same thing also.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 09/12/2019:
Yes,sipping my coffee right now with you!

I was reading a book a few months ago, it was all about the "little things" that if we don't pay attention to, turn into big things that either help or hurt us, but rarely keep things the same. I believe the book was called "The Compound Effect," meaning that over time the little choices compound in either a helpful or hurtful way in our lives and it's up to us to take notice and change a thing or two.

Yes, and also doing LITTLE things each day can help us also..the little things we decide to do more of, like myself waking up on time now and using some of the morning to do some short exercises, keeps my body in motion, which i'm thinking is more healthy than laying in bed listening to the radio - when i can be up riding a stationary bike, moving, watching tv. i'm trying to find ways to be more active in the time i have outside of work, but still taking some time to relax. ;)

Maria7 on 09/12/2019:
You are sooo RIGHT! There are things we can do in moving to make up for extra calories.

grannyannie on 09/12/2019:
I can drink coffee in many ways - black, cappuccino, latte. I was never more than 10 lbs overweight until my late 30's, and the older I get the harder it is to get it off and keep it off.

Have a good day, Maria!

Maria7 on 09/12/2019:
Same for me, Annie...Late 30's started gaining weight...was not overweight until then.

BearCountryGG on 09/12/2019:

Hello to you and wishing you a good day.

Scale weighed me at 151 today so I will not change 'official' weight of 150 above that I have mostly been maintaining.  I am still dealing with sinuses over here along with general achiness all over.  Headache, muscle aches, dizziness, and although my ears are ringing loudly, my sinuses seem to be a little clearer today.  Smile.

Hope you are having a good day.  Every day with our Lord and Saviour Jesus is a good day!
