........................................................
Good afternoon to you.
Went to church this morning, and our Pastor preached an outstanding message on FAITH. Our faith in God helps us every day. I don't know how people make it who don't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Who do they turn to? After church service,
Hubby and I went to a restaurant and had lunch together BUFFET. I have LEARNED....SALADS are my FRIEND. SALADS are my FRIEND. So, I head straight for the salad buffet first thing when we get our food. Most of what I eat are FRESH VEGETABLES when we eat out....and very little salad dressing.
...........................
Yesterday, Hubby was working so I went to the flea market in the next town over by myself and bought a pair of Levi's jeans (my favorite brand) 100% cotton, non-stretch, size 8, almost like new, for only $2.00. Brought them home, washed and dried them and tried them on today...really COMFY fit. Thought about wearing them to church for tonite's service and still might but probably not.
.............................
Hubby and I visited Mom at the nursing home after we ate lunch today. I took her some watermelon chunks, which she ate some as she'd just finished eating part of her lunch that had been brought to her on a tray (she had been resting in bed today). She is purposely eating less to try to lose some weight as she has really put some on recently.
.............................
Also, I want to say that once you get to your goal weight, you don't ALWAYS stay that EXACT weight...you may go up or down a little and if you don't keep up with your exercise, even staying at the same goal weight you can actually get larger and your new size not fit as comfy as it did when you were exercising. I've begun working out at the gym again and can tell it in the fit of my size 8's I wear. VERY COMFY. If I get slack in exercise, I find they fit a little snug around the waist. So, I am on track with exercise...yayyyy!

Hope you're having a nice day!

Good morning, Friends!
Have prayed and had my Bible study and been having my morning coffee!
Won't you have a cup of coffee with me?

'Flower Garden'
The sun is shining and it's cold outside. But it is to start warming up here beginning today and going into the 60's (and some say 70's) early next week...yayyyy! I want to start on a new flower garden come springtime weather. I want to get some new daylilies and maybe new rosebushes, too. I would try to have a veggie garden but each time I do, the squirrels get to the veggies before they are large enough for me to pick and take them in so they can finish ripening. Sometimes, the squirrels dig up the flowers I set out by the roots (only the new ones that are still tender) and I have to reset them out. We have lots of trees and lots of squirrels here.

'Hubby'
Hubby is at work and he is happy that we are beginning to have warm, sunny weather as he works outside a lot. He loves the springtime and summer.

'CRAVINGS'
I am having nitetime temptations to binge on food but I am doing my best to limit the temptations by allowing a 100 calories bag of lf popcorn, a few nuts and a healthy s/w at nite, usually something like healthy crunchy peanut butter on 2 low-cal breads or something similar. I have to be very mindful during the day of what I allow myself to eat so I'll have room to partially satisfy the expected nitetime food craving. (And then after allowing the above, sometimes my tummy still growls for more food!) I'm still wearing size 8's jeans comfortably. When you get to your goal, it is almost the same as working to get there, cause then you have to work to STAY there. It's not easy street once you arrive there. It takes constant monitoring, constant vigilence to stay at your goal. It takes restraint and patience. It takes not giving up if you overeat a day or two and it takes determination to not go back to where you were when you were fighting to get to your goal. I'd rather fight to stay at goal than fight to get to goal, that's for sure, cause at least that way you've got a prize you've won for your reward. The other way, you can imagine, you can in the distance 'see' your reward but you don't have it yet but you know you will get it with perseverance. I remember trying on my 8's jeans and either they wouldn't pull up or they'd lack 4 to 6 inches of fastening if I could get them on. I remember how I thought that once I got back to goal again, I'd NEVER NEVER NEVER let it go! But I think I FORGOT what a CHALLENGE it was to stay there, having arrived at goal before and let it get away. So, that's where I'm at today. FIGHTING to stay at goal. (But it's WORTH IT!)

Hope you're having a nice day!

No, I have never been to Isreal. I just saw it on a design website and fell in love with the design.
Have a nice evening--wise words on maintaining--keep up the good work!
I swear, losing the weight was easier for me than maintaining my loss. I was so arrogant to think I had conquered the problem when I had stayed within 5 lbs. of goal for over a year. How foolish of me. No, the battle continues at goal. I remember noticing when you were 5lbs. over goal andtold you to be careful, and today I see that you got rid of them! YIPPEE!
We must have similar eating habits because I, too, have to arrange my eating to include the inevitable evening cravings. Andyest. Those 100 cal. bags of popcorn are one of my favorites.

Hello, Friends!
I visited and sat with Mom at the nursing home a while yesterday, been going up there every day for a long time now. She seems much better now that she has a new roommate. Mom lost another friend within the past few days, who was not living in the nursing home, that I was pondering whether to tell her or not, and yesterday, Mom asked me to read in the weekly newspaper she gets, her friend's obit, which I did, so she'd found out that way. Mom told me she was not upset about it, that her friend was 77 years old and that everyone has to go sometime. I was surprised and relieved at her positive outlook about it, especially her having just lost 3 roommates in a row.
Hubby is doing good and at work today.
Last nite, I played the piano at church and we sang three songs before the message.
..........................
Hope you're having a blessed day or evening.
Love, Maria
I'm glad your Mom is doing so well :)

Hello, Friends!
This is written at nite. Hope you've had or are having a good day. I haven't done an entry update since Wednesday, so thought I'd write a few lines. Yesterday, I almost bought a pack of 6 cinnamon buns...I had them in my hands and they looked soooo tempting but I put them back and bought a bag of apples instead. I mean, how valuable are cinnamon buns, anyway? You taste one for 60 seconds and it is gone and adds 200 unhealthy calories...but really more than that, cause we know I wouldn't have stopped at only one, don't we? That's assuming Hubby might eat 2, so that would have left 4 which would have been 800 calories of starch and sugar. Tonite, Hubby and I had a 'date nite' and we ate out buffet (our usual when it comes to restaurants) and as usual, I was good...I had a large veggies salad with very little salad dressing, a little steak (don't eat much red meat) and a little yeast roll. About 500 calories max. My total calories for today are around 1200. Sometimes I feel like I start to get comfortable, being this size, almost like getting used to it, but I realize that for a former food addict I must stay vigilant. I say food addict cause that's how I gained to over 200 pounds and wore size 20 and 22. My size 8's I wear are loose now and today I actually got pretty comfortably into my size 6 levis jeans that I bought when Hubby and I went to the mountains last year on vacation. (They were tight then when I tried them on.) At the thrift store the other day, I found a pretty pair of size 7 black levis bell bottoms 100% cotton (I don't like to wear stretch jeans, only non-stretch 100% cotton). You should have seen me tonite. You would have laughed as I was determined to get them zipped up after I got them on. I laid on the bed and asked Hubby to help me get them zipped. With some effort, He finally got them zipped up. They are sort of tite right now, which shows I need to walk more. The size 6's are actually larger than the size 7's cause the 6's are women's size and the 7's are junior size (extra slim fit).
I'm looking forward to playing the piano tomorrow morning in church. I feel so blessed to be our church's pianist. I have been for years. It is actually a calling, the music ministry. I love to sing and play the piano. Mom bought me a piano and taught me how to play by ear when I was growing up, then she sent me to a piano teacher after school for formal lessons to learn how to read music and play out of music books. I am part of a praise team (sort of like a choir) at our church that leads the congregation in singing as I play the piano. We all have a wonderful time worshiping the Lord together!
I visited Mom this afternoon, who is doing well. I took her picture and videod her and her roommate talking to each other. Mom was in her bed and smiling and talkative. Her roommate stays in her wheelchair a lot and wheels herself over to Mom's bed and sits nearby where they can hear each other better and they talk and talk, like teenagers.
.............................
Hope you're having a blessed day or evening.
Love, Maria
Have a great day!
RYC: You said it girlie--little did I know that staying around DDs would help me keep my weight off (for the most part). I mean I got back to 170 once--169 twice or 3 times--but for the most part I've kept up with my exercise and "food vigilance" over the years.
And I'm still getting there--anything beats how I felt at 189!

Good morning, Friends!

The sun is shining and the birds are singing outside. It is warm here, in the mid-60's and I saw a red bird (cardinal) in the back yard earlier. A squirrel was on the back deck banister and I threw out some bread for him/her.
..........................
I will be finishing studying today in preparation to teach again in church tonite at our midweek service. I enjoy teaching. I will be teaching about Someone you can always count on...the Lord and about keeping our faith in Him and trusting Him to take care of us.
..........................
I usually gain weight in the winter and lose it quickly in the summer and it has been hard to change that this season to not gaining in the winter. Holding onto goal once you reach it is just as much a struggle as getting there. I'm happy I'm still wearing my size 8 non-stretch jeans that I wore years ago when I was at goal (and eventually let goal slip away and put on weight til I could no longer wear size 8). I eat LOTS of vegetable (lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion, bell pepper, broccoli, carrots) salads with very little salad dressing on them. Salads are healthy and very filling and very low calories. I eat very LITTLE meat, especially red meat. I do enjoy fish and chicken, though. (No pork.) I am careful with white carbs (white rice, white potatoes, white breads, etc.) although I eat a LITTLE of them in moderation. I eat baked sweet potatoes pretty regularly and if you get away from eating processed sweets, eventually naturally sweet things like sweet potatoes and fruits actually taste really sweet and good and much better than white-sugar sweets.
......................
Hubby is at work and he is happy that we are having warm, sunny weather today as he works outside a lot. When he came home from work yesterday, he had my Valentine's Day gift, a very nice, new laptop computer! He didn't have to pay money for it, as he earned points at his work (a safety program for employees) and saved them up for a very long time til he had enough to order it. I told him I will be fixing him steak and potatoes for his supper tonite.
I also bought him his favorite desert, an apple pie.
He asked me to FRY his potatoes (not bake them) and I told him I will. He likes just about everything FRIED but I usually do NOT give in and I bake a LOT of food versus what I call 'boiling food in fat' (frying).
....................
Mom is doing well. I visit her just about every day. She is very happy that her best friend at the nursing home was allowed to become her new roommate. They get along real well together and Mom has someone to talk to. I am so relieved. (Mom had lost 3 roommates in a row over the past few months.) Mom had me to bring some of her clothes including a jacket for Mom to give her new roommate (I think her roommate didn't have a jacket), so I took a black leather jacket I'd given Mom years ago and a couple of Mom's nice sweaters and another top and Mom gave them to her roommate, who was so happy to get them that she had me to spread them all out on her bed (she was in her wheelchair) so she could sit and look at them and admire them. Later, with her permission, I took the items and asked that the new roommate's name be put into them, which was done, and then I brought them back to Mom's friend and per her request, hung them in her side of the little closet in their room.

Hello, Friends!
It's been pretty, sunny, and almost warm (50's F) here today. My Friend and I went out to lunch together. We went to Red Lobster in a nearby town and we each ordered seafood. The food was so good. I ate half of mine and brought the other home for my lunch tomorrow. I've learned portion control in maintaining my weight. You 'learn' to feel full on less. Used to be I could have easily eaten all of my food I was served at lunch today at one sitting, and even more, when I was overweight before I got to goal weight. But I've learned 'mindful eating'. It's okay to enjoy my food and have pretty much anything I want to eat, but just not so much of it, especially at one sitting. After lunch, we went to a thrift store and she bought a nice overstuffed blue recliner for her Hubby for only about $25 and also a few clothes for herself and I found a nice skirt and matching jacket to wear to church and I got that. We had a nice outing. After taking her home, I visited Mom at the nursing home, who was in bed. I sat with her an hour and we talked and watched Paula Deen on the tv in Mom's room, and Paula Deen was baking a green tomatoes with raisins pie, among other foods she was cooking on her tv show, and Mom and I were laughing and talking about that while watching the show together and I gave Mom a pretty poster with a Bible verse and a kitten on it (Mom LOVES cats) that my Friend sent to Mom, which Mom was happy over and I put it up near Mom's bed where Mom asked me to put it so she could see it well.
Hubby was home from work when I got home and I had stopped and bought him some supper on my way home after visiting Mom.
I hope you have had/are having a good day.

Hubby is at work and I am at home. I hope you are doing well. I sat with Mom at the nursing home a while yesterday, who was not feeling well. I peeled 3 fresh peaches and put them into little pieces and took to her, which she ate.

Good morning, Friends!
Hubby is off work today and we are planning, Lord willing, on going to the next larger town over and doing a little shopping, maybe go to the flea market, and eat lunch at a restaurant together. He's been working Saturdays for a good while, so this will really be a treat for us to spend some time together today.
..........................
My back is much improved and I thank those of you who have asked about me or checked on me and left comments while I was away. It really means a lot to know others care and that they think about you when you are away! It's been a very busy, nice week (in spite of back pain). I've been visiting Mom every day, sitting with her, taking her food and/or magazines, etc. to cheer her up, talking to her. She's still been grieving a lot over losing her 3rd roommate in a row, as well as her favorite nephew recently. She wants to just stay in her bed and be left alone and the workers there at the nursing home are not allowing her to do so, so she complains about their getting her up and putting her into her wheelchair and making her sit for hours in the dining room each day (where there are other residents also).
.......................
Yesterday, one of my Friends and I went out and ate lunch together, her treat. We ate at a local seafood place and we each ordered a whole fried flounder fish with the trimmings of a sweet potato, hushpuppies, and slaw. We also had a piece of pie each. I disciplined myself to only eat half of my food and brought the rest home with me to eat for my supper tonite, except for the piece of pie, which I ate half of and left the rest there. It was all very good. My Friend and I visited Mom after we ate lunch and she showed Mom lots of photos of her family and Mom, who had refused her lunch and appeared to have stayed in bed all day because she had on her gown in her bed instead of daytime clothes on, soon was acting happier and requested that I go get her a banana, a pb/jelly s/w, and an apple juice, which I did and brought to her and she was eating that when we left after we'd stayed with Mom for a good while, talking to her.
......................
Thursday nite, Hubby's Sister and her Friend, who we'd called and invited to supper, came over and had supper with Hubby and me. I fixed roast beef with potatoes and onions, also corn, slaw, sweet potatoes, and yellow rice. I heated up yeast rolls and for desert we had store-bought german chocolate cake and 3 flavors (neapolitan) ice cream. We had a really nice visit together and after eating, we all sat around the fireplace with the fire going in it, talking. I sent the leftovers (minus the ice cream) home with SIL.

I have been keeping on track with calories pretty good and I am finding that maintaining goal weight is very much akin to getting to goal weight. The only difference is you've attained your goal weight and you are the size you want to be and can wear the clothes you want to wear in the size you like best. But THE WORK CONTINUES to stay at goal weight and for me, this is to not give in to emotional stresses to comfort myself with food. So many times in my life I have allowed others' self-created problems to dominate my mind to the extent that I worried so much about others that I nelected myself and didn't take care of Maria because I stayed on the run trying to take care of everyone else but Maria. I've been at my goal weight before and let it get away. I told myself I HAD to eat more for strength and energy (to deal with others' problems they created for themselves). I HAD to be there to help bail them out of their own-fault troubles. (WHAT A CO-DEPENDANT!!!) Now, even though it is not my nature to ignore their frequent distress phone calls, I am MAKING myself do it! No more co-dependant! No more emotional eating from worrying over them. They sure don't concern themselves about Maria's well-being! They don't come by to visit Maria but they sure know how to HOLLER for help to Maria. I have had it! Sometimes they (some of the family) make me feel like SCREAMING and I guess I do silently. Never do they help me with Mom's care which is all on me. And they expect and take it for granted that I will also be their caregiver, too! (NOT!)
Hubby is doing well. He and I had a nice day when he was off work yesterday, which he is back to work again today and I am working on us getting our other vehicle refinanced to lower a monthly payment. We've already got his truck refinanced, thank the good Lord.
.......................
Afternoon update: I went and sat with Mom a long time this afternoon at the nursing home, trying to cheer her up. I took her a baked sweet potato and peaches sprinkled with a little margerine, sugar, and cinnamon. We were having a nice talkative visit after I hung up a new calendar for her to look at where she said she wanted it put on the wall, when Mom felt cold and complained of being put to bed on top of her cover after lunch instead of under it. I covered her with a blanket and went and requested that her CNA be found and come put Mom under her bed covers as she was cold. CNA came and rolled Mom from side to side, getting the cover out from under her. I assisted CNA on the other side of Mom's bed after CNA asked me to move Mom's tray out of the way. I pulled the cover out from under Mom on the side I was standing on after the CNA had Mom to roll towards her, on the other side of the bed. No problem. Then the CNA asked me to grab the sheet that was folded under Mom and pull it sideways with Mom on it to drag Mom up in her bed a couple of feet. I protested slightly, telling the CNA I didn't have any business to do that as I hurt my back in a car accident a few years ago. Her silent response was to grab her side of the sheet under Mom and hold it up in anticipation for me to do the same on my side. So, did Maria stand up for herself? Of course not. I grabbed the sheet on my side and together we dragged Mom up in her bed with the folded sheet under Mom being pulled sideways. I immediately sensed I'd injured myself. You know that scary freaky feeling you get when you do that? When you know something is definitely not right and you body immediately tells you you shouldn't have done whatever you did? Then the CNA said she had been in the middle of taking care of someone else in another room and needed to get back to them (they are very short-staffed there) and said she'd be back later and hurried out of Mom's room. After making sure Mom was warm with her blankets in order on her, I sat back down in a chair by Mom's bed again that I'd been sitting in before going to request the CNA come help Mom. All of a sudden, SEVERE cutting-like lower back pain on the right side hit so hard I had to get up from sitting down very quickly. (I had pulled Mom from right to left on my side of Mom's bed.) Mom looked at me like she didn't know what to think at my standing up so quickly and when I said my back was hurting bad, she told me to sit back down and I'd be all right, which I did and had to get up very quickly again because of the painful spasms, which radiated down my right leg with tingling pain in it. I told Mom what caused it and she said, "Well, you will know not to do that again". It was so bad and kept coming and going til I told her I had to go home and take an aspirin. (I take tylenol if it isn't severe pain and aspirin for the 'I'm not playing' kind of pain.) Came home and took aspirin and here I am keying to you and still having spasms of pain in my lower right side of my back going down my right leg. Don't want to go to ER. Hubby will not be pleased.
......................
Nitetime update: Hubby came home from work and after hearing my story about hurting the right side of my back, he said he is NOT taking me to ER (I didn't want to go anyway but I wouldn't have minded a little sympathy from him). He checked my back and compared both sides and said the right side of my back "isn't swollen much"...then he got very tickled at my grunting in pain...then he walked around, copying me. Why aren't men more sympathetic? His words to me were the usual "You'll be all right". Gotta love the guy, sympathy or not!
.....................
Hope you're having a nice day!
Love, Maria
I hope your back feels better soon!
PS:didn't you used to be "Maria" not "Maria7" or am I going crazy?
Please don't suffer and fume if you're still hurting today--otherwise, take care of yourself!

Good afternoon to you.
Went to church this morning, and the Pastor preached another outstanding message, then we left after church service was over and went straight to the nursing home and visited Mom for a while. She was in bed, all alone in her room that a couple of days ago was occupied with others, including her roommate that passed away, and her roommate's round the clock CNA's that watched over Mom's roommate and kept Mom company to talk to. Now they're gone and Mom is alone. I tried to console Mom, who has lost 3 roommates in a row over the past few months by telling her that maybe soon she'd get another roommate and all she replied was that she hoped that if she got a new roommate that the new one wouldn't pass away, too, as the others have. Mom's also still grieving over her favorite nephew passing recently, as the rest us in the family are as well.
Hubby and I are back home now and resting a little, he on the bed in the bedroom with the remote control in his hand, watching tv, and me back here on the opposite side of the house in the study. He likes to hear noise (tv) to relax and I like to hear quiet to relax, so I'm back here. Lots could be done to improve the decor in here but at least after working on it this week, the Christmas presents' wrapping-clutter is gone. And it looks BARE in here but nice and peaceful.
..................
The phone keeps ringing with different ones in the family having plenty of ideas of things I can do for them and I am ignoring it. One, I will have to call back as I promised I would this afternoon and the others I am not answering. They do what they want to and go where they want to go and don't care to come by and visit me but when they want something done, it's call Maria! So, Maria is not answering the phone! Maria is resting, drinking coffee and reading DD entries!

Sounds like you have everything under control this time round Maria. I am so pleased for you. We must be in synch, I taught a lesson on Faith in Jesus Christ on Sunday to our womens group. It went well, so I was happy with that, it is always a little daunting to teach in front of a group. I hope you have a good week and thank you for my Monday morning welcome. I always love to see your entries.:)

I always admire your restraint at the buffet! It must be great to know your will fit into your size no matter what, that's what I'm aiming for at this point. I get into about half of my size 4s, and the other half are too tight in the tummy. Once I can fit comfortably into all of them, I think I will be satisfied and use that as a gauge for maintenance. It sounds like you had a wonderful day, I hope you are having a great evening too!

Faith is so important! I was talking to a colleague of mine recently, and she is not really religious. I asked if she believed in God, and she didn't really say, but said she had faith. I asked, faith in whom, or what? Faith in nothing is just that, nothing! Faith in God is where it's at.
Sounds like you are doing great - exercise and salads at the buffet - a perfect combination. Keep it up.

Hi Maria, "Faith is the substance if things hoped for and the evidence of thing unseen." With out faith, I'd become void and useless. I'm afraid I would have never lasted this long, had it not been for my faith and love for Jesus Christ. Happy to hear that your precious mom is doing well. Take care & God Bless.

The recipe for the chicken coating is: 1 cup desicatted coconut, finely ground, 1/2 cup ground almonds, 1tsp chilli powder, 1tsp ground thyme leaves, 1tsp salt, 1/2tsp black pepper. It is really delicious.:) I put it on thinly sliced chciken breast and shallow fried them and drained them on paper. Hope things are going well for you and that your husband and mom are both well. Thank you for your continued support and encouragemtnt, I appreciate you very much.:)
