Hello to you...

It has been a mostly rainy day here in SC...We needed the rain and thank the Lord for it.

I sat with Mom IndianWomanOlder.gif image by autumn1234567 at the nursing home this afternoon, who was quite confused and also was upset with a caregiver as well for making her get up out of her bed yesterday and stay up for a while in her wheelchair.  Mom preferrs to LIVE in her bed and detests leaving her bed.  She has now lost her appetite and is not eating much at all.  She just simply seems to not be hungry.  She has lost a little weight, which she needed to do, but she is just not eating much.  I have seen her like this before and it was when she had a bone infection in her foot and her foot and part of her leg almost had to be amputated but thank the Lord, He healed her.  I really think that the specialist she is going to see next week will reveal that she has an infection that has been causing her pain.

I am  still exhausted from going back and forth so much but I did stay home yesterday and rested although I felt very guilty for doing so.  I didn't want Mom to feel I'd abandoned her while she was in pain and yet at the same time I needed to rest as I wasn't feeling well at all yesterday.

Weight was 148.0 this morning on scale. I did well with calories yesterday, about 1350, I think.

Hubby and I went grocery shopping later this evening, something we rarely do together (usually I do it myself).  It was fun and I think we did real well together.  Thing is, when we got home and got the groceries put up, I figured out that we could have eaten out at restaurants for cheaper than we paid to buy the food to cook to make meals.  When I mentioned this to Hubby, he thoughtfully said that we might not feel like eating out every day (which we surely do not do as I  cook the majority of our meals) and he said it is good to have food at home we can eat anyway, which he is right.  Why is my mind always like a calculator?  I am so used to figuring which is the cheapest way to do things.   Speaking of cheap, I thoroughly enjoy wearing used clothing that I buy at yard sales, flea markets, and thrift stores and as for Hubby, he could care less about clothes as long as I don't buy something that is not his style for him to wear.  (I think tropical-looking shirts I've bought for him in the past are SO CUTE on him when he has tried them on at home but I learned long ago that he is so NOT going to wear them out anywhere!)

Anyway, hope you are having a wonderful day in the Lord. Every day with Jesus is a GOOD DAY!

I am glad that you had a lovely afternoon with your husband. Doing things together is always better than doing them alone. I am sitting listening to the music from school as I type, the children aren't back until next week, however the teachers are back. The music this year is cover versions of The Beatles 'Let It Be' for the end of lunchtime and 'All You Need Is Love' in the afternoon recess. It is lovely and I am a very blessed woman:)I hope that life becomes less stressful for you and if not that you have the wisdom and peace that will help you to manage whatever it throws at you:)

selina on 04/19/2012:
Sound like a great day with hubby at the super market - in my opinion, home cooked meals are always cheaper than eating out! At least, it is for me. Also, you know exactly what you put in it... I hope your mom feels better soon. Stay well!

Em17 on 04/19/2012:
Hope she feels better! Have a good day!

Umpqua on 04/19/2012:
I think with cooking at home versus eating out it's a matter of quality. Sure, some restaurant food may be cheaper, but what is the real cost? I always wonder how they are preparing the food and what type of ingredients they are using, and I can almost guarantee they're not using the same quality ingredients that I keep at home. Restaurants don't care about the health of their customers, they're out to make money, same as the food manufacturers. So even though the numbers may look better on paper, in the long run they're not! (my 2 cents, pun intended ;)

V on 04/19/2012:
Good Morning Maria <3 I am hoping that the doc can resolve your Mom's pain..You are always in my thoughts :)

liza36 on 04/19/2012:
I'm glad you got some well-needed rest. Don't feel guilty about it. You needed it.

I think home cooked meals are preferable, although I don't do much of that myself. Sometimes it seems not worth if for one person.

grannyannie on 04/19/2012:
Hope your mom begins to feel better and get her appetite back. Agree that it's better to cook your own meals as you 'know' what is in them and can control the fat, sugar, etc.

hollybelle on 04/21/2012:
I know what you mean about groceries vs eating out. I like the control I have at home and it's healthier. It's so hard to plan every meal, though. I often say if someone will just tell me WHAT to cook I will cook ANYTHING I don't have to decide upon! LOL! Hope your Mom's issues get figured out. Sorry she is having such a hard time. How old is your mom? Mine is only 77. She has lost a lot of weight since Dad passed in January. I'd say about 40 lbs. She really needed to. I notice she is moving SO much better! She wants to have cataract surgery soon and needs to lose weight and get her BP down so she will be approved to have the surgery. I hope she can because her quality of life will be even better if she can see well! I worry about her driving and stuff. I can't see making her quit driving just yet. I ride with her from time to time and she does OK and only goes during non-peak traffic hours to places she knows really well. God bless, Maria. Thinking of you! It's raining her today. All day - gentle soaking rain!

Hello to you...

Pretty, sunny day here, in the 80's F.

Been a while since I've been on here.  I've been daily going back and forth to Mom IndianWomanOlder.gif image by autumn1234567 at the nursing home, who has been in a lot of pain.  Finally they are sending her to a specialist (next week).  Don't know if it will help or not...but trusting in the Lord concerning it...you know...when you've done all you can, STAND.

I am exhausted from going, going, going every day and seeing Mom suffering so much.  Today I am going to try to stay home and catch up on some rest.  Her birthday was yesterday and my Sister and I were both up there spending time with Mom.  She seemed to be feeling some better.

Weight is is up, 148.4 this morning on scale.  I've given in to some nite-time comfort-eating.

Flower gardens are doing pretty well, but I've almost stopped working in them other than giving them extra water as needed.  Just don't have the energy...so our yards look half-done.  Leaves need raking, bagging and taking off.

Hubby is doing pretty well.  I am so thankful to the Lord for my wonderful Hubby.

hollybelle on 04/17/2012:
Hey Maria! Good to see your post. Sorry your Mom has not been feeling well. It's so hard to take care of our older parents. My mom is doing OK, but she has her moddy moments. I wish I could do more for her, but she is #1 hard to please and #2 not sure what she really wants sometimes. This year will be a big adjustment for all of us since dad died. Mom is really doing very well considering what a big change it is for her. Doing yard work is a great workout - I'm sure your yard looksk better than 95% of the yards in your area even 1/2 done. Take care and God bless.

hollybelle on 04/17/2012:
Ohhhh, the bike ride/marathon - I am not sure I am going to do it because I haven't been riding/training as much as I wanted. But even if I don't ride that ride - I will break 30 miles this summer - I just know it. I am going to ride tonight - at least 12 miles. I won't have time for much more. Thanks for asking, though!

Em17 on 04/17/2012:

And I am sure like Holly says since you have such a knack for placement your yard is beautiful as is! Take care of yourself and hug Mom tight.

It's good to know you are well Maria, although you are falling behind in your chores... your garden can wait, while your mom is priority. I hope the doctors can do something for her pain, poor thing. Stay well.

liza36 on 04/18/2012:
I hope your mom gets some relief soon and the doctor can figure out what is causing the pain. Hang in there!

moogy on 04/18/2012:
You do sound exhausted Maria:( I remember someone asking me 'Who takes care or the carer', if you don't look after yourself you will not have the energy to look after anyone else:) I hope that your mom gets the care she needs, it is so distressing to see those we love in pain:) You are often in my thoughts:)

Hello, Friends...

I hope you are doing well...

HubbyLargeManWaving.gif image by autumn1234567 is doing okay.

MomIndianWomanOlder.gif image by autumn1234567 is about the same.

As for me...I've been a little extra stressed here lately...Been eating a little more at nite, too, as usual when I am stressed like this and it is showing up on the scale, as I weighed 148.4 this morning.  One of my friends and I took a long country road ride to a town a good distance away today.  I'd planned on leaving the house for a few hours after I was getting very tearful over something someone I helped a lot recently said about me that I found out about and this was not hearsay...so I decided not to hang around the house rehearsing what they said over and over in my mind and crying over it...so my Friend and I rode a long ways to a town I may or may not have rode through before but not really visited the town itself.  It was about an hour or so drive...anyway, we had a good time...we ate out at a small but friendly buffet restaurant with really good food, although not a large buffet, then afterward, we went shopping at some nearby stores in that town.  I found a pretty black with rinestones-trim and big buckle western pocketbook that was 40% off that I hesitantly bought (like I really 'needed' it...)...that was a perfect match to a belt and pair of boots I wear as a set...now the set includes a pocketbook, too.  Will go good with my western jeanswear.  Of course, it is now too warm to wear all that with the very warm weather we've been having (80) but maybe a cool evening when Hubby and I go out to supper I can...  So...I came home after taking my Friend back to her home and after visiting Mama at her nursing home for a while...and there were 2 phone messages from that person mentioned earlier waiting for me to return their call and guess what???  I am SOOOO not doing that tonite!  Such friendly messages wanting me to call them (yes they are totally unaware that I know what they said about me since I went wayyyyyy out of my way to help them...)...and I am so not calling them back tonite!  I have NO DESIRE to call them tomorrow, either!  (And may not!)  Anyway...nothing like a good shopping (and eating out) therapy with a friend, huh????

Hope you are having a good evening.

Love, Maria

I can hear the saddness in the way you have done your entry today Maria. I think the same thing happened to your last year as well, if I am not mistaken. I think that sometimes people get jealous and can't resist turning on people. I hope that you have a lot of loving supportive friends that you can trust. It makes it easy to drop off the pretend ones:( I am glad that you had a friend to help you feel better for today and hope you find a way of disengaging yourself without causing you further pain. Love you Maria:)

grannyannie on 03/28/2012:

RYC, haven't been to London yet, leaving tomorrow.

So beautiful, the photo! It's full of sunlight, it'd be perfect as a painting studio...

So sorry to hear about your problems with not so trustworthy friends. I'm glad you were able to get a little respite from it all by getting some time off and treating yourself well. When something like this happens to me, I always try to tell myself that what others think of me/talk about me is none of my business, as I can't control them. What I can control is staying away and avoiding this kind of people and situations in my life. I hope this helps.... Hugs to you Maria!

V on 03/28/2012:
Good Morning Maria :) I am sorry that you are having issues with your friends <3

Umpqua on 03/28/2012:
That picture is awesome, I want my office to look like that! I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, it really stinks when people let us down. I read something recently that really stuck with me, and it's that other people can't make you feel bad, only you can allow yourself to feel bad. We can't control what other people think or say about us, and it's too bad that you had to hear that news, but you can choose not to let it upset you. And I can understand your disappointment in this so-called friend, but you can choose not to let it bring you down. And the positive is that you got to spend a nice day out with your other friend! Take care <3

WII on 03/28/2012:

YOU know you helped out of the kindness of your heart and that mission was successful. Do not let the gossip or untruths of others taint your good heart and actions. But on the other hand, don't subject yourself to hurtful comments and treatment either. Move on and enjoy the company of real friends. Your pocketbook sounds lovely! Find a "cool" (as in temperature) restaurant for you and hubby so that you can try out your new ensemble! Hang in there girl!

Good morning to you! ...

Beautiful, sunny, warm morning (in the 60's) here in SC...supposed to get up to 80 (F) today according to the weather channel on tv...

I've been mostly maintaining in weight here lately...still wearing same size clothes...

Daughter was over here yesterday and she and I rearranged the study and it looks much prettier in here (I'm sitting at the desk keying this  to you)...  It was good to spend some time with her.  She is so sweet.

Mom IndianWomanOlder.gif image by autumn1234567is doing about the same...please pray for her...  She is confused a lot.

Hubby and I have been very busy lately, doing a lot of flower gardening together.

About Bikeathon - I think they are called Bikeathon when it's like for charity and you ride so far for so much money, etc. I think they are called rides or rallies when they are just organized to promote cycling or something - but I kind of like bikeathon in general because it sounds like marathon - hahahahaha! So call it what you will - it's a long darn ride! Yay! I hope I can make it.

Hubby and I took a day to the beach...  It was good to get away a little while...  We walked and walked and walked...and I was 'pretty good' with my calories...okay...he bought me the 2 little bags of high-calorie nuts I always love that he usually gets me when we go there and they are almost all gone now...(Scaled weighed me at 146.4 this morning)...well...we had a good time together and it was good to have it be just us by ourselves for a while, even if it was for only one day...

Hope you are having a good day.

Love, Maria

Thanks, Maria. I don't know what kind of cake I'll get him today yet... I think I'll buy one with fresh fruits on top, like they have it at wholefoods.. The big party will be this weekend, and I'm planning to bake him a carrot cake...

Sounds like a lovely, romantic day!

Beautiful picture Maria! I hadn't thought of the vaporizor yet because the strange thing is I am not nasal congested! I can breathe clearly through my nose. They put me on the decongestants to hopefully clear the fluid in my ear. The Musinex is also preventative so that any ear fluid that may drain wouldn't go into my chest. I haven't coughed at all and just now had a coughing fit and up came some mucous, so who knows... I'm glad y'all had an alone day! And a beautiful one at that!!

thenewMLE on 03/08/2012:
hahaha!! Thanks - we use NO heat at all!! I'm in New Orleans and we have been using AC since early January. And just because of my age, I can never get it cold enough. We open the windows when it's in the 60's and lower and last year our room was at 55 degrees one night and poor hubby had a hunting wool cap on his balding head and I was still sweating!!!

hollybelle on 03/08/2012:
Awwww, beautiful picture! So envious of your day! SIGH....sweet - you deserve it! About the saddle on my bike - more cushion seems like the answer, but actually it may not be. A more cushion-y seat presents a problem of pressure on softer tissue on long rides, believe it or not. I'll play with the adjustment of the seat and build up my "bum-endurance" with shorter rides and hope for a better outcome!

Very nice picture. You sound very happy.

Hello and happy Saturday to you!

Lots of pretty yellow daffodils are blooming around our front steps...also the red camelia tree is loaded in blooms and one of the azalea bushes is already lit up in pink azaleas.  The yellow forsythia in the back yard is loaded with florescent-looking little yellow flowers...It is EARLY SPRINGTIME here...

Hubby and I have been out and about today...

We went to a church rummage sale  where I used to go to church when I was a little girl and when my Daddy was still alive here on earth...He and Mom used to go to church and take us kids with them there...I had not been to it since Daddy had gotten killed by a drunk driver when I was nine...the old church is now become the fellowship hall and a new, beautiful sanctuary has been built now in front of it (the old church was beautiful, too)...Hubby and I are still looking for a new church to attend since recently leaving the one we we attended for about 17 years where I played the piano and taught Sunday School and Hubby was Director of Men's Ministries and Sound Director as well...  So...today we've been invited to visit them and we may do it soon...although the church is on the opposite side of town that we live on and it is a good ride to get there...(we have been used to our church we attend being within walking distance)...

So...he and I are back home now, resting a while...  We ate lunch at Cracker Barrel (def not Hubby's fav but is mine) and we plan to do supper at one of his favs tonite (buffet, no less!)....

Hope you are having a good day.  Every day with the Lord IS a good day.

Love, Maria

The flowers sound beautiful. Have a great day!

V on 03/03/2012:
Beautiful flowers :) I hope you had a wonderful day!!

hollybelle on 03/03/2012:
My church I grew up going to used to have rummage sales. I loved going with my mom who would work them sometimes. Do you think you'll go to servies there? It's hard to change churches so I go to about 2-3. I rotate.

thinkpositive on 03/04/2012:
Rummage sales are part of my church history too. I was in charge of it for many years, fun but tiring project. I would put a picture up on DD but I haven't been successful at posting pictures, not sure why. My crescent floral project was done with orchids, roses, ferns & beargrass- all in white & green. Looks like you enjoy flowers also. Sorry that you left your church after so many years. That must have been heart breaking after putting so much of yourselves into it.

selina on 03/05/2012:
Sounds like a great weekend, cheers to you!
