Hello, Friends!

Weight is updated as of yesterday's weigh in. 

I 'fell off the wagon' over the past few days due to buying a couple of my favorite trigger foods and not rationing them properly.  One was a jar of Smart Balance with lots of omega 3, no hydrogenated oil peanut butter and the other was a small bar of fruitcake with nuts in it.  I ate ALLLLLL of the peanut butter  and most of the fruitcake.   So, I've been a naughty girl but I'm back on track today!

Thank you to you who have checked on me.  Though I haven't written in the past few days, I've come back and read here at DD.  Love you!

Glad to see you. I was missing a day or so myself so getting back on track as well. Hey, that wasn't as bad a slip up as I've done before. A day or two sticking to the right stuff and any fallout will be long gone! At least it was Smart Balance pb and not....well....Skippy or something. :) Take care.

Sydney is classed as sub-tropical so we get high humidity as well. Plus we live a good hours drive from the city which is on the harbour, our temperatures can be 10 -15 degrees higher inland. We are in a valley just to top things off. I am lucky to live on the second story of our home and catch all the breezes that are around, plus I am very grateful for my air conditioner.

Good to see your post today. I'm sure you'll be back on track right away as you always do a good job of pulling yourself back in. Plus, your extra foods really didn't seem to be in horrible quantities so a mini-slip probably won't do serious damage. Hope all else is well! :)

Another rainy, chilly day here in S.C.    Love it! 

Yesterday's estimated calories were 1500.  This morning the scales shows I am down a little....okay -0.2 but it all counts, right?

I'm currently having some breakfast...coffee, 2 turkey sausage patties, and grits...yum!

Update:  Friend and I went out to lunch today.  I was good with calories.

Hello, Friends!

I DO NOT want to come out of my house today!  Ugh!  Except to go to the mailbox (and see if the new size 8 jeans I ordered have arrived).  I've already taken out 2 friends to lunch this week, one on Monday and the other one yesterday and another friend is wanting me and her to do lunch today.  TOO MUCH.  She didn't want to hear no, just asked me to call her in a little while after I think about it some more (I told her I'm not up to it today)...Said it would be her treat (but how is a treat a treat when you pay the tip and furnish the gas and transportation to go to another town?  And shopping will probably be expected afterwards which I am SOOOO not in the mood!)...I know I've got to leave the house anyway, though...gotta go to the grocery store and get some things I didn't get yesterday.  I made homemade vegetable soup and cornbread fritters last nite.  Thought I'd have that for lunch and supper today and had it last nite for supper.  Family has been calling me, wanting me to take on additional responsibilities with other people in the family besides Mom, whom they have put total responsibility of on me and I have to hire help to sit with Mom at the nursing home if I leave to go on a trip and they know it and have money and refuse to help with Mom's care.  Not only do they NOT thank me for doing my part and theirs with her, they want me to do EVEN MORE...take on additional responsibilities which are their personal responsiblilities.  Hubby says we are NOT doing the traditional family Thanksgiving lunch or supper here, as we usually do each year and get taken advantage of BIG TIME. 

I am so NOT in the best mood today.    PS...Top it off, I just managed to LOSE Friday's entry (copying and pasting a picture) and so at the bottom of this entry are Friday's comments....  and Friday's entry is GONE WITH THE WIND..... 

Update:  Mood got better...I went and visited Mom a while and took her some foods she really likes a lot.  She was doing real well and up in her wheelchair in the dining room and wanted me to wheel her to the hall in front of the nurses' station where she could sit beside one of her friends, which I did.  Then I went to the grocery store and got a few things but I've got to return the Splenda substitute I bought...It is no longer in powder form.  I didn't go out to eat lunch with anyone...just didn't feel up to it.  It is raining here and cold, which I LOVE cause it is so warm in this house and cozy.   

Est cals today: 1500 (could have been better but I just 'HAD' to buy some Smart Balance chunky pb today and have some of it!)

Cold weather makes grits sound really good. I love yeast rolls - bread in general, Maria. You showed restraint with 2 rolls. I really notice a difference when I don't got overboard on starchy carbs, so cut back on those for 2 days and I'll bet you will be in the place you want.....

We're leaving next Saturday for a week at Disney. It's bittersweet with everything that's been going on, but I'm trying to focus on the positive and planning for the trip keeps my mind occupied at least. I hope you have a great weekend!

Maria, Sorry to hear that the family is trying to use you to bear more family burdons. You have to prioritize your immediate family first. You already take care of your Mom without help. There are times to just say "no, I cannot do that". And do not feel guilty for it. Take care, and hugs to you. Be strong. (I think your husband is right about not hosting the holiday meals. Bravo to him)

I'm glad you are in a better mood now Maria. Good for you for being firm on not going out to lunch, there's always another way. And please don't let your family take advantage of you. You have a full plate right now with your Mom and it's OK to say no. You are a good person, but you won't be be able to do good for others if you are overloaded with responsibilities. I hope you have some time to take care of yourself, you deserve it!

I am grateful that your husband has stepped in and said NO. I can see that you were raised to please people and that it is wrong to say no when someone asks you to do something. But you know there is nothing wrong with saying no. I think your friends need to take each other out and respect your decisions. Your family need to back off (I wish I was there, I used to teach Assertiveness Training - I would sort them out for you and no one would feel bad), you do more than your fair share of the family workload. Please don't say yes to anything extra, you keep saying no, firmly, politely but definitely. Look after yourself Maria, you deserve it.

Those sound delic! I will have to try them. The bean cake things were from a black bean burger recipe for cooking light. I had a black bean disaster, so I subbed other beans, and I just had egg whites in the house (no yolks) They were good, but a bit dry; I will have to try it again as it was written!

Hello, Friends!

It is another chilly but sunny morning here in S.C.   I thank the Lord, it is warm in this house.

I got on the scale this morning and it registered 145.4, yayyyy!   

I'm fixing to be leaving to go tend to some business in town   ...be back a little later....


Update:  Took one of my other friends out to lunch today.  We also did a little shopping at the thrift store.  She found some things she liked and got and I bought a used NICE very heavy wood desk ( I think it's mahogany wood) for the new office I've been working on fixing up.  Hubby and I went and got it after he got home from work.  Can you believe it was reduced from $25.25 to $15.25 to just $10.25?  Someone who didn't work at the thrift store helped Hubby and I gave him some money for helping which at first he seemed to refuse but then accepted it.  (Some people who shop at thrift stores can use some extra money.)  The desk had a lock and no key, so before we came home, we stopped by a security place and a set of new keys was made for the lock ( the middle drawer lock causes the other drawers to be locked, too, when it is closed or locked).  The keys were only $10.00.  We came home and our sweet STRONG neighbor friend came over and helped Hubby get the very heavy desk into the house.  The front door had to come off as well as the office room door to get it in (it's quite large) and then Hubby and I put the doors back on together after we thanked our neighbor friend for helping Hubby get the desk off the back of Hubby's pickup truck and into the house and into the new office room and we told him we could finish putting the doors back up after he offered to stay to help with that, too.    What a wonderful  friend!

Est cals today:  1100  (i've been REAL, REAL GOOD)

Hello, Friends!

It is a chilly morning here in S.C. but thank the Lord, it is warm in this house.

I started not to put my weight in this morning cause I didn't want to see the monthly average go up YET AGAIN...but I put the number in anyway.  146.4 isn't 140.0 goalweight, but it's still pretty okay, I think. 

Calories were up a little yesterday, so I averaged est. 1850 calories for each day Saturday and Sunday which isn't too bad considering it was the weekend and Hubby and I ate out buffet both days.

Update:  Took Friend out to lunch (the one who visited Mom while we were on vacation) today at Cracker Barrel.  Then we went to a thrift store.  After this, we went to a KK where we got donut holes.  We had a very nice outing.  After I took her home, I visited Mom a while, who was doing pretty well. and sat with Mom in her room and we talked and watched tv together...was a nice visit! 

Est total cals today:  1450

Great pics as always. Yes, the cream of potato soup is quite good. It's powdered mix but I add all the veggies so it's really quite filling. Love soup for fall and winter! So comforting.

LOl yes we are....i am going back to Marshall's in hopes of the size 8 jeans are still there,i should have purchased them yesterday but I feel the pants will serve as a motivator to getting down to a comfy 140 ;) They look really nice on me and yes i can't believe i am in 8s again!!!! Yayyyyyy

Hello Friends!

Hubby and I went to church this morning, then we went out to eat lunch.   After this, Hubby and I visited Mom and she was sitting in her wheelchair in her nursing home room watching tv, not wanting to go mingle with the other residents in the dining room and wanting to be put in her bed.  She couldn't get a CNA to take her to the bathroom, she told me, and her call button was tangled up laying on the floor out of Mom's reach and when I went to (family/friends are not allowed to help a resident move from their bed or wheelchair) get help for her, the CNA came, untangled Mom's out of reach call button on the floor, then left, saying she had to find another CNA to help her with Mom, and didn't come back.  When Mom and I called on the call button for help again, the person at the call button end told Mom over Mom's room intercom to use the bathroom in her brief and that no one was available to take her to the bathroom.  I objected, telling that person that Mom recently got well of a UTI and I was told to go talk to Mom's nurse, which I did after standing and waiting for the nurse to get off the phone.  After telling Mom's nurse what was said, the nurse came to Mom's room and took Mom to the bathroom and scolded Mom for not going to the dining room with the other residents.  Mom begged to go to her bed and wasn't allowed, being told she has to sit up some to not develop bed sores.  Mom still objected.  So stressful!

Hello, Friends!

Hubby and I went to the farmers market today where we bought lots of veggies...green string beans, yellow squash, red tomato, green cucumber, banana.  We also went to the flea market.  Hubby bought me some of my fav honey coated almonds/pecans and I ate a few and came home and put the rest up in the freezer to save for a later time when I'm at goalweight to have a little at a time in moderation.  Frozen honey-coated almonds/pecans are not as big a temptation to me.

This afternoon, we visited Mom at the nursing home and I redid her closet, taking home her hot weather things and putting her cooler weather things in their place.  She was so happy cause she'd forgotten about some things she had for cooler weather and seeing them again, she said happily, she felt like she was "in a store!"    It was a job, converting her closet, but it is done now.

For supper, Hubby and I ate out at a buffet restaurant but I was a GOOD GIRL.  I'm also back to my prevacation weight today, yayyyy!

This evening, he and I visited another couple we've known for years, who are some dear friends that we think a lot of and love very much, but they and we don't see each other very often. 


Today's food:

egg and cheese biscuit 370

honey-coated almonds/pecans 400

fried chicken, veggie salad, peaches, icing and ice cream 600

Total est. cals today:  1370

Hello, Friends!

Well...I am disgusted.  I pigged out last nite...why?  Cause I was watching tv and I felt hungry and the snacks tasted good, so I just kept on eating til I felt real full.  That is the silly reasons.  So today I am up to 148.4.   Time for ACTION!!!  For motivation, I've orderd a pair of size 8 100% cotton Levis jeans from Ebay.  They do not stretch.  That should do the trick for motivation.  I'm still fitting real well in my 8's.  But if I keep gaining weight, I'll be saying goodbye to size 8.  I just recently bought a pair of size 6 Levis jeans  when Hubby and I were in the mountains on vacation.  I was able to get them on (they do not stretch, either) and zip and fasten them but they were too snug to wear yet.   I have fallen back into nitetime food binging.  Uhhh!  (Though I'd kicked that old habit but I began it again right before we left on vacation!)

Today is Hubby's birthday. Happy birthday, Honey!     I am taking him out to his fav buffet restaurant (Golden Corral) tonite.  This girl will be doing a big salad with not many sunflower seeds or dressing on the veggies.  I may allow a little something else but I will be closely monitoring my calories.


Today's menu:

bk:  2 turkey sausages and 1/2 cup grits, no marg, coffee w ff cr & splenda 200

lunch:  fresh green string beans (cooked) and ground beef w tomato sauce 200

Hubby's Golden Corral birthday supper:  2 medium yeast rolls w a little honey butter, salad, a little turkey, icing and ice cream 800

Total est cals:  1200

LOL I bought the smallest jar of roasted sunflower seeds for my salad tonight...This is item #1 in my bare cabinet...Maria it is so funny you are having the same in your salad...I think i will be fine but if i have the slightest temptation to have more than my allotted 1 oz portion, it's out of the house!!!! I will keep you posted...I found something very very cute for you the other day,i was hoping that you would fall for xmas card story, I didn't want to ruin the surprise but now the cat's out the bag! Yea, I don't think I will be eating pre workout again! I was famished! It's so hard to avoid the late night snacking. Obviously I sympathize! Those jeans sound like great motivation. I fear the no-stretch jeans, in any size!

Hello, Friends!

Today has been finish getting things settled from vacation (putting things where they go, etc.) and the usual tidy house deal.

I've been getting calls from my friends since we've gotten back home, want me to do this and that... two of them who did not even visit Mom in the nursing home one time while we were away and didn't know I'd hired someone to do it and knows how important Mom is to me...guess what???  I'm so not in the mood.  I DID bring them back gifts and took to them but I am so not in the mood for listening to talk about their world.

My  friend who was really 'there' for me (and for Mom) while we were away is the one I plan on spending more time with...(the one who was willing to visit Mom every day for free but I insisted on paying her and finally got her to take the money before we left) and she even visited Mom an extra day over what I'd asked her to...she is the one I plan on having lunch with....after I get renewed energy to get out and about again.

Today's menu:

2 turkey sausages 120

2/3 cup grits w a little low cal marg 180

2 diet breads 80

ground beef w tomato sauce, slaw w low cal mayo, tomato, cucumber  800

Hello, Friends!

It is SOOOO good to be back home!  Missed you, Friends! 

Hubby and I had a wonderful time on our mountain vacation!  We did a lot of hiking.  There was one almost vertical hill he really had to help me get up.  Hubby is very big and very strong!

As usual, I overpacked so much, there was hardly enough space in the back seat of the pickup truck to bring back what we bought while there.   I could have very easily packed us 2 outfits each plus our usual personal stuff and fitted it all in one suitcase and that would have done us easily, including the 3rd outfit we wore to the mountains!  Instead, I packed a duffle bag full of snacks (not needed), and a medium suitcase for Hubby's things and another one for my things and a vanity case for personals, thinking I was doing well...NOT!/    We were lugging that stuff up and down steep stairs 3 floors up at one resort that had no elevator. 

But...we did have a wonderful time.  The reds, yellows, oranges, burgundies, and golds in the mountains were very bright and vivid and exhilarating to be in!    We stayed at a waterfront room surrounded by mountains with the best view at two different locations!

As for weight...I actually gained only one pound while we were gone 6 days and 6 nights on our vacation, which I think is just fine.   I averaged about 2500 calories per day which was very much needed for the amount of hiking Hubby and I did, which was a lot.  My size 8 clothes fit me very well, which I happily wore, and still do.  I also bought a pair of size 6 Levis jeans while in the mountains, which though snug, I can get them on and fasten them and they are 100% cotton, no stretch! 

I thank our DD webmaster for all he went through in getting this site back up and going again as well as his maintaining this site, as well as I know you ladies thank him as well.  It doesn't look like an easy job to keep up with and he doesn't even charge us, either!  What a wonderful person to do that for us!  Thank you, DD webmaster!

Well done on only gaining a pound Maria, it must of been lugging all that luggage. Also a big well done for the jeans, no stretch, I mean that really is good going, Levi's are pretty unforgiving in the tush department. So glad you had a lovely time, it sounds like the colours of the mountains were wonderful. Lovely to be back with you.

Maria!!!! It seems like ages, i really missed you! Well you ask about tips on staying motivated and I plan to post maybe something on the forum about it, but for me i think the saving grace for me and i know you will totally relate is clearing the fridge and pantry of EVERYTHING that was not on my plan...The pantry is still bare but my fridge is always loaded with healthy fresh fruits veggies and lean meats,water and celsius, My poor freezer has but mere ice cubes...Until my trip home to Chicago in August, i allowed no "cheat days" and since binging was never an issue with me no prob in that department..Oh and finally I know my success mainly comes from the structure of having a set menu for the week that i prepare,weigh and bag every Monday...Now does this work for everyone? I don't know but I know it works for me...i hope i didn't bore you LOL

Lol you are not being nosey! isn't this what this site is all about..LOl I am currently designing my own maintainance program but for now i stick with 12 ozs of lean proteins and 3-4 servings of fresh veggies and fruit 1 serving= 1cup raw veggies, 1/2 cup if steamed or sauteed..I thought of you Sunday when I had a salad with seeds and various nuts and it was deelish...Oh and the Sunday before I even indulged in a half piece of coconut cake?? It was good but I felt so guilty afterwards...I guess that i have to reprogram to allow a few indulgences every now and then.. i still plan on preparing my meals for the week on Monday and make Sunday my day to have something I normally wouldn't drink or eat, in moderate portions of course

Hi Maria - it's been so long! I missed you! The hiking sounds wonderful! That pound will be gone soon. Where did you all go? Sorry I missed it if you said. I'm so behind! My h and I love to hike and the mountains are so nice this time of year. Had to laugh at the packing comments - I always take too much, too because I want CHOICES! Too funny!
