Good afternoon to you.  The rain is finally clearing up over here in SC.  It is chilly, 50's, but not cold.

Weight is back to 154 again.  I thank all of you who made some suggestions and the 100 calories popcorn and the 100 calories fudgecicles are really working for me.  Smile!

I visited Mama at the nursing home yesterday and we had a good visit and she is doing pretty well, thank the Lord.

I just cooked a big pot of homemade speghetti with ground beef and veggies and all.  Have some?

Washing clothes today and relaxing other than that.

Hope you are having a good day...

Sounds like things are going just fine for you Maria......that's great!

horn_of_plenty on 01/29/2018:
yes, i'll totally have some ground beef, spaghetti and veggies in there too! Yes, please!

we've had 50's too over the weekend - loved that bc in NY 50's are unseasonably warm!

graindart on 01/29/2018:
I would kill for some spaghetti..... Unfortunately that's one of the carb foods I've had to pretty much give up in order to stay on track. Pasta, bread, pizza. Love them, but I have a real problem keeping them to a reasonable portion size. Have finally gotten tired of fudgsicles for the most part. Although I did roll one in some low calorie PB2 (peanut butter powder). It made it taste kind of like a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup. 40 calories for the fudgsicle, 25 calories for the 1TB PB2 powder = 65 calorie snack.

I'm so glad to hear that your mom is doing well. Oh that spaghetti sounds delicious!!

Good morning to you.

Hope you are having a good morning.  It is raining over here in SC.  Hope you are all staying safe and well.

A lot going on at the nursing home where Mama lives.  I went to see her and 2 big signs were in the foyer facing the door as I went in with a warning to put on a face mask (there was an open box of them nearby) because of flu outbreak and saying all patient activities are cancelled until further notice and no residents are allowed to eat in the dining room, have to eat in their rooms and warning all visitors to come back at another time if possible.  Well, I had brought a fresh face mask which I immediately put on and I proceeded to Mama's room which was 2 halls away.  I was greeted with a warning from Mama's nurse who was in the hall before I got there, telling me to remove the mask I had on and put on a fresh one (from a box of them on a table in the second hall) before going into Mama's room to see Mama, her reasoning being that as I had walked down the first hall, my mask had become "contaminated with germs in the hall" so needed to be replaced with a clean one before entering Mama's room.  I asked her how did I know that the open box of masks on the table in the second hall were not contaminated?  I saw that neither she nor any of the CNA's nor other workers who were in the hall near that table had on masks.  She would not let me enter Mama's room without removing my mask, so I did and I did not touch the masks on the hall table, either because I know that they never wash their hands going from one room to another, never.  Mama was a little hoarse but cheerful.  We had a good visit altho I was very stressed out from the confrontation with her nurse in the hall and I gave her a big bag of goodies I had brought to her, her favorite things to eat.  Later, her nurse came into Mama's room (with no mask on) and tried to explain to me her reasoning for her requirement, which made no sense to me and she apologized for her attitude towards me.

So, today I am hesitant to go back yet.  I visited her Friday and I usually go every day or two and since I didn't go yesterday I know she will be hoping I will come today.

I am currently holding at 155 and don't mind for now.  I'm still down about 10 pounds from my highest this year, so not gonna stress about it.  The 100 calories popcorn is helping a lot.

WOW....your thoughts on the subject were exactly the same as mine....my guess is that their masks were contaminated. That has to be so frustrating!!! Hope you and your mom stay well!

horn_of_plenty on 01/29/2018:
I am glad the smaller serving size is working for you - this is my solution to many treats and foods...to have a little instead of denying myself completely.

We are getting mostly rain too thankfully due to warm weather.

I heard on news that it's one of the worst flue seasons recorded..... I hope things impr Be for our mom .... some of the assistants may just be following the nursing home protocol....make sure I guess you wash your hands when you leave yuck!

happy-1 on 01/30/2018:
If you see the nurse, just ask how she's feeling and act super concerned. Suggest that she sit down and take a few minutes. She'll be super stressed the rest of the day.

Good afternoon.

Got a call from Mama'sIndianWomanOlder.gif image by autumn1234567nurse that they are starting Mama on Tamiflu because someone who has tested positive for the flu is in 'close proximity' of Mama's room.  When I asked if it is Mama's nursing home Roommate, of course they can't say for the Hippa law.  Wouldn't even give me a hint even tho I called back and talked with the head nurse, said can't break patient confidentiality or something to that effect but still would be good to know, altho I (am trying to) understand.

I bought some chocolate fudgecycles and have replaced the (tubbed high-fat) ice cream with them and altho I didn't get sugar free, there is already a big reduction in the amount of calories daily.  Thank you all for your suggestions.

Hope your Mom doesn't catch what is going around, there are several different types of flu going around now and it's hard to escape them. Good choice with the fudgecicles...they are a really good alternative.

Maria7 on 01/24/2018:
Thank you.

Donkey on 01/24/2018:
I continue to keep your mom in my prayers. This flu that is going around is AWFUL, so whatever they have to do for mom, do it.

I know you want to know if it's her roommate, but ya know, does it really matter? For example, I was at legal clinic this past weekend and everyone was either coughing, sneezing, "just getting over" the flu, blowing their nose. I was so wigged out -- and very upset because I cannot afford to get sick, I could not afford to bring home these germs and get my son sick, or worse-case, get my husband (with his autoimmune problem) sick! I was afraid to breath! I tried to keep away from people physically, and then someone would come up behind me, looking over my shoulder, and start coughing. What the heck?

I applaud you with the Fudgcicles -- creamy and chocolate, with much less calories and fat. If you have to have an evening sweet, then this is an excellent choice. And there's no sin in being honest with yourself that you need to end the day on a sweet note.

horn_of_plenty on 01/25/2018:
stinky that they cannot tell you exactly who. good they are taking precautions with your mom.

Good afternoon to you.

Been reading your entries today and have been enjoying reading them.  You'll all doing well, I see.  As for me, I need a little advice again...I have been eating ice cream almost daily for quite a few days and it has become a habit cause I am finding I am eating more and more of it each day and sometimes going over my daily calories allotments because of overeating it.  I bought fruit to replace it with and ate that, too but also the ice cream, too.  Any ideas?

horn_of_plenty on 01/22/2018:
Unfortunately, it means you have to throw out your ice cream!

you can replace it with 2% greek yogurt...and add cinnamon to the yogurt if you like that flavor or any nice flavor...and also you can add the fruit to the greek yogurt - all fruit could probably work, even frozen fruit too.

also, you can make a smoothie of fruit and ice and low cal almond milk for low calories...you may need to sweeten things, i just use stevia which is no calorie. i use liquid stevia. smoothie might be pushing it bc too much fruit and it's too high calories....but WAY better calories than high cal ice cream....

you can also make your own ice pops or buy sugar free ice pops.

bearcountrygg on 01/22/2018:
All good ideas from HOP!!!!!

graindart on 01/22/2018:
For me, I just have to get the temptation out of the house and not try to substitute something similar. If (unlike me) you can deal with something similar without it throwing you overboard, sugar free fudgsicles are 40 calories per serving. My go-to snacks are 100 cal microwave popcorn and prepackaged containers of sugarfree gelatin. The off-brands of SF Jello here have 5 calories per container. I usually have 1 or 2 of them in a day, but have been known to eat 7 or 8 of them if I'm trying to fend off a sudden urge to overeat. My thought process is that even if I eat the entire 12 pack of SF gelatin cups ($2.64 here at Walmart), that's only a total of 60 calories. I haven't had a day when I ate a 12 pack, but for me it's better to go out of control on something like that than something higher calorie per serving. Now that I've been writing about it I seem to have a sudden urge to eat a Jello pack.

Donkey on 01/22/2018:
Both of these approaches are good ideas. I've done both, depending on what I needed at the time. If it's becoming a habit that you don't want in your life, then I say stop it cold.

However, if you are ok with needing/having a dessert, then find a healthier, lower calorie substitute. My mom used to freeze fat-free Cool Whip and then eat a little bit of it with some fruit or just plain. Being Cool Whip, that's not really something one would want to eat a lot of in one sitting.

Donkey on 01/22/2018:
Oo, I wanted to add that what has helped me get over dessert is having either decaf coffee with flavored creamer or a cup of hot chocolate (120 cals if made with water, 90 if you get the diet packets) after dinner.

Having the hot drink takes care of wanting the "sweet" after dinner.

Good evening to you.

MamaIndianWomanOlder.gif image by autumn1234567is doing better and thank you for asking about her.  She didn't break anything, thank the Lord.  I've visited her today and she is improving.

I cooked a big crock pot of chili and we've been eating that off and on today.  Turned out real good.

Still holding at 154 and that's all right with me.  I did buy some 100 calories a bag popcorn and have had some of that and it is very filling and I enjoy eating it knowing I'm not eating the same amount with a lot of oil in it that had probably 5 times the calories.  HubbyLargeManWaving.gif image by autumn1234567 has been enjoying eating the popcorn with me today.

I'm very glad that your mom is feeling better and that she did not break anything. Very grateful.

I'm working on a box of the 100-calorie bags of popcorn. I find these to be very helpful, when I am at work, but I have to pop it at home because I tend to burn these smaller bags when I use the microwave ovens at work.

Getting ready to go visit MamaIndianWomanOlder.gif image by autumn1234567this morning after being 'iced-in' yesterday.  Please pray for her as she has not been feeling well lately.

I cooked a big crock pot of large white lima beans (from bag) and they have been good eating.  Seems they cook out so much softer but still keep their full shapes using the crock pot to cook them in versus cooking them in a pot on the stovetop when a lot of them fall apart.

Hello, Friends.

I had a nice visit with my MomIndianWomanOlder.gif image by autumn1234567 who lives at the nursing home this morning and she is doing well, thank the Lord.  She had spent 3 days drawing a pretty picture (her hobby) to give to me.  I am so blessed.

..................................

Hubby,LargeManWaving.gif image by autumn1234567 who works outside will be home from work shortly.  I cooked a big pot of chicken and rice after I got back home today and boiled some eggs to make egg salad for s/w's, too.

I've been good so far with no popcorn.  However, last nite I got into mints and had a lot of them and a banana and even ice cream and this was after I had 'finished' eating for the day and had stopped at 1700 calories.  My added calories were about 500.  I've got to get control over this nite-time snacking.  It really adds calories and is so unnecessary.

.............................

Hope you are having a good day.  Remember, every day with Jesus is a good day.

horn_of_plenty on 01/15/2018:
Are you hungry when you snack At night ?

graindart on 01/16/2018:
My late night snacking is my main problem right now. It tends to start as soon as dinner is over. I'm not usually hungry at all. Last night I was actually feeling uncomfortably stuffed after dinner. But as soon as dinner was over I started obsessing over sugar-free Jello and popcorn. I ended up eating 4 or 5 cups of the Jello and 1 bag of the popcorn. It only added 125 calories to the day and was still within budget, but I was eating it on an already full tummy which made me even more uncomfortable by bedtime. I suppose the immediate answer for me would be to just get rid of the Jello and popcorn, but I'd just find something else to replace it with. Right now I'm just making sure my nightly snacking doesn't cause me to go over my daily calorie budget. If it starts getting close to my limit, I'll have to make a conscious change.

Got so wrapped up in popcorn that I lost my momentum...  But I'm 'good to go' for now...

Thanks for all your comments/suggestions to my last post...They are all very apprectiated and I thought about each one.  They were all real good suggestions.  I did buy some microwave popcorn to have for a back up plan so I don't go back to popcorn popped in a pot with a lot of oil, but my plan for now is 'Just Say No'...to popcorn...When I simply get back to where I was a few days ago, I'll be glad.

graindart on 01/11/2018:
I've been surfing an ocean of popcorn for the past few weeks. I seem to go in cycles on my go-to choice of snack. Usually the cycle only lasts 2 or 3 weeks, but I think the popcorn might be here to stay for a longer period of time. I've been eating 2 or 3 of the microwavable 100 calorie packs each day. And I've been sprinkling some no/low calorie fake popcorn seasonings on them to mix things up. The seasonings are high in salt content and that's what I've been craving lately. On an ideal diet, I'd probably replace my popcorn with something else. However it's a whole lot healthier of an option than the amount of chips / candy / pop / etc that I used to eat on a daily basis. I think I'm going to go pop myself a bag now.....

happy-1 on 01/12/2018:
Do you know more people break teeth eating popcorn than any other food? Keeps me out of it at the movies.

horn_of_plenty on 01/13/2018:
That high fat popcorn tastes great indeed !

I am a big fan of the microwaveable SINGLE serve in butter flavor bc it's good and tasty - Orville redenbachers or however it's spelled is very tasty and doesn't taste fake - I don't buy brands like pop secret or smart pop ... but the Orville's single serve I still like only 200 cal per serving and then the only way to have more isnyou have to pop another bag which I don't find very convenient .....meaning I don't usually go to pop another bag ever ...and usualy I make the popcorn as my carbs like an addition to a meal so the one serving bag is more than enough !

Personally I love popcorn too!

horn_of_plenty on 01/13/2018:
lol to happy's comment. I do always start to eat the leftover popcorn Kernels I'm always so tempted to eat them !
