 Hello to you!

We've been blessed with some rain here lately.  We've needed it and I thank the Lord for it.  It sure has helped cool the outside temperature down.  The heatwave is now gone and we are only in the high 80's to low 90's, which is definitely cooler.

Yesterday my calories were on the low side and I am aiming for the same again today.  I've had my 'party' here lately of overeating and it is time to get with the program.  I feel better when I don't overeat, as well.  More energy, peppier.

Food today: 

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled w a little cheddar cheese, 1 bread 300

Lunch: Homemade lowfat hotdog and about a cupful of fries 400

Snack:  corn on cob, plain 200

Snack: cheese 50

Supper:  another lowfat homemade hotdog 200

1150 est day's total.

Exercise:  (Lest we leave that out...)  Walked and ran on the treadmill.  (Preferr walking at the mall or with Hubby around the neighborhood when it is cool weather.)

Update:  Visited Mom at the nursing home and rearranged her clothes outfits in her side of the closet the way she wanted them.  Said she's been wearing the same certain set of clothes over and over cause they are the closest to the front, so I put some of the ones in the back to the front that she likes best and put the ones in the front that she's been wearing the most in the back.  It looks like they'd rotate the clothes near the front of the closets that they put on the residents the most, but it's hurry, hurry, hurry there and get the resident up, dressed, in their wheelchair (if they're able to get into a wheelchair) and wheel them to the dining room for breakfast and move to the next resident to do the same.  It's the way it is at lots if not most nursing homes.  They don't have a lot of help at them.  I looked through Mom's dresser drawers and in the top one, one of her new gowns had been stuffed, not folded and on taking it out, I saw that it still had old FOOD on it.  I took it straight to those in charge and reported it and asked that it be cleaned.  Nothing was said concerning why it had been put into her drawer in that dirty condition, and it was received to be sent to laundry.

A few days on low cal will get you back to a healthy steady way of eating. I can't imagine how hard it is just to maintain - but I am determined to find out!!!!

We had rain, yesterday, too! and our temps have been in the 50s and 60s for several days, now. I'm enjoying it a lot!

Thank you, Maria, I do have lots of friends (and family) in the US. So it's going to be great going back! Unlike you, I never moved much when I was little. On the other hand, I'm making up for the lost opportunity, now!

I'm glad to hear you got to see your mom yesterday, and I hope you'll sort out the nursing home issues soon.

You know, Maria - what you said in your comments to me - we are a blessed nation - struggleing to not overeat when there are so many struggling just to HAVE SOMETHING to eat is something that I think about frequently. I am thinking of a way to combine my weight loss with a donation to those that do not have enough to eat. Kind of a win-win situation. I save money through not paying for little treats so maybe I'll make a slush fund to donate to the local food bank.

A take it easy day - enjoy! Meat pies are an Australian icon food, they are made with a shortcrust pastry with a meat and onion filling. I have made my own, not very often though. I stay away from pastry as much as possible. The ones I had in the freezer were shop bought for my grandsons (11 & 9) for after school food. They have afternoon tea with me everyday, pies are great for them on cold afternoons when they are 'starving'.

haha! nothing that I'll miss, they are not useful, beautiful or joyful anylonger: one month ago the truck from the salvation army took 30 boxes full of books, clothes, toys, etc. yesterday, I went to the table linen closet and got rid of 1/2 of what i had - had not used them in at least 3 years, so they are going! also, pots and pans, serving dishes, etc that I don't use anymore - there were lots of nice ones but i don't need them. today, i'll tackle a few closets and call the salvation army again. they are so nice to come to pick things up! All kitchen appliances that I've been using, expresso machine, microwave, everything, I shall leave to the people who are moving in (husband's replacement in the office.) I can only take 7200 lbs of stuff to the US, so I must lighten up.

Yesterday was good with calories 'UNTIL......................................................' last nite I got real hungry and had a tuna sandwich, plain and about a cupful of canteloupe.  So adding that to yesterday's calories, shouldn't be a lot extra...maybe 400, est total 1850 calories yesterday.

As for today's cals, here it is so far:

Breakfast:  egg w abt 1/2 cupful of plain grits 170

Lunch: BIG MAC 540 ...yes, I treated myself to this that I usually do NOT have, it's my birthday today :-)...

Other food later:

pecans, ice cream, chicken, cheese  1590

total est cals today:  2300


Fixing to go visit Mom for a while, and take her some fresh peaches that I prepared for her to be easy to eat out of a container,  will update later....

Update:  Did go visit Mom (who sang Happy Birthday to me....also, Sister, Friend, and Aunt sang Happy Birthday to me over the phone earlier today), then Hubby and I went out to eat supper, then he and I walked a while together,  and now we're back home again.

Hello to you!

Hubby and I went to church this morning, (we were part of a wonderful worship service singing beautiful uplifting songs of praise and worship to the Lord followed by listening to the Word of God being read and preached from the book of Isaiah), then afterward we ate out at a buffet restaurant (didn't overdo), then we visited Mom (she was in the dining room at her nursing home eating lunch and talking with some of her friends who were eating or had already eaten and who were also sitting around the table with her that she was sitting at), then we came home, and now here I am keying to you!


Today's food: 

Breakfast: egg, plain toast 150

Lunch: About 2/3 cup candied yam, about 1/2 cup rice mixed  with okra and tomato, a little dressing, a prune, 1/4 pc. fd chicken, very little choc pudding, ice cream, etc.  550

Snack: fresh peach 50

Supper: Sunflower seeds, candy 650

Snack: another fresh peach 50

Today's est. cals:  1450

Love that okra! I bought another package of it last night. I can't seem to get enough of it!

Hubby  and I took a little road trip this morning.  We went to a city about 75 miles away and ate breakfast at the Cracker Barrel restaurant there (real good!) and did a little shopping and came back home this afternoon.  The Cracker Barrel restaurant has a store in the front part of it filled with all kinds of goodies!  Clothing (mostly women's), beautiful household decorations, music cds, candy, etc.  They already have the fall clothing out and also lots of Christmas items.  I love to collect mugs and Hubby knows I especially like to collect the Christmas mugs and he told me to pick one out and he'd buy it for me.  (Tough choice, they were all so beautiful!)  I picked out a large red with white snowflakes mug that has a matching spoon that fits into a little pocket on the side of the mug, that is part of the mug, that goes with it.  Only 5.99 and boxed really nicely.  Put into a big Cracker Barrel brown bag that has handles on it that can be reused for carrying other things.  Hubby was so patient with me while I browsed around in the store part and I got 3 new fall tops while we were there, one was even half-priced.  Hubby had country ham with eggs, grits and plain toast for his breakfast and I had sirloin steak (gave half to Hubby), egg, plain grits, plain toast, and we shared a small order of hashbrowns.  My breakfast calories were about 500 max. 

On our way back home, Hubby and I stopped at a large local farmers market and walked a lot there and bought fresh canteloupe and peaches to bring home with us.

Total estimated calories today:  1650

WE ARE HAVING A HEATWAVE!  (South Carolina, USA)  Typical July/August weather here in the south.  :-)

Hubby, Aunt, and I are going out to supper (at a BUFFET restaurant) tonite, (her treat for her birthday present to me...ooops, did I say that word)?  (Birthday not yet, not today, it's MONDAY!)  Ooops, I told!


Calories total today:  I WILLLLLLLL be good!  I've only had 5 little pieces of candy (200 cals) so far and it's already past 1:00 pm.  :-)

Good morning to you!  Today is a brand new day, a beautiful day.  It is a sunny day here and it is a sunny day wherever you are today also, cause remember the sun is ALWAYS shining, even though sometimes we may not 'see' it cause of clouds temporarily obstructing the view.  I decided yesterday to get back on the horse again.


It may take me a little while, but I'm backtracking to where I was when I lost my way....

 I thank you all for your words of encouragement who have written to me.

 Suffice to say that I am over my goalweight enough now to not try to claim 140.0 so I'm not letting it be on this entry today.  I know I shouldn't let stress affect me this way but the truth is it does and it has.  I know not to comfort myself with food but I have done it again.  (As i have in the past after I reached goalweight.)  I didn't think I'd give in this time but I have.  I know I should take my own advice and just 'get back on the horse again'....I am also thinking that 140.0 may be a little too low for me and maybe I should just be at 145.0.  I am still a size 8 at 145.0 anyway.   We'll see...


Food today:

banana 100

scrambled egg and cheese, 1 regular white bread 300

corn on cob, plain, with salt added 200

apple, sprinkled with sugar, cinnamon, and margerine (microwaved) 150

small potato with a little onion (microwaved) add a little ketchup & salt 150

this might be it for the day...if so would be 900 cals, which I'm okay with considering the pigging out I've done over the weekend and yesterday....also, I've restarted taking vitamins today, which I quit taking a long time ago..

banana 100

cheddar cheese 100

Total today:  approximately 1100 calories



Update:  Okay...I DID have a little supper...the banana and cheese,  but I'm still at 1100 for today, which is ok.... Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement.  I've been a crybaby today (think I got 'cried-out') but I got a lot of clothes washed that were being stored and needed rewashing.  :-)

Dear Maria, I'm sorry about your uncle. I haven't been here in so long, I went back and read your last few entries to see what has been going on with you. My heart just goes out to you, you seem so "challenged" lately. I don't mean just with diet but with all those around you. At least, you are aware of your situation and you are doing all you can to make up for those last days. Forgive yourself, you are only human and we all have those bad days. Don't forget to remember how hard you worked to get where you are now and take some time to enjoy it. I'm so glad you are here at the DD, I feel almost as if I know you well. Just got in from getting a few groceries. 



 I plan to do some walking  a little later this afternoon. 

Food today:

Scrambled egg with cheese, 1 regular bread 300

Scrambled egg with cheese, 1 reg bread again 300

banana 100

sloppy joe (ground beef cooked and fat drained off and  with tomato sauce and flavorings added) without bun 300

homemade slaw (cabbage w a little lite mayo) 100

cheese 50

 chocolate covered peanuts 500 (regret buying them!!!)

another banana (I bought a bag of bananas, about 12, on sale...)

3 regular bread and more cheese....550  (shouldn't have bought the hunk of extra sharp cheddar cheese today, all 800 calories of it! Should have known I'd give in and not ration it properly! )

Total:  Approximately 2300 (So worried about other people.  Worried about Mom.  Worried about some people who aren't worried about me.  People who show they DON'T care.  My close friend said she and her Hubby didn't come by nor bring Hubby and me any food or anything over the weekend (to show their compassion and that they care, what we Christians do) after our Uncle passed Friday morning, cause they didn't know what to bring, didn't know where to take it, and her Hubby was busy working ......and followed that by saying they also went out of town one morning over the weekend, shopping at different places and eating out at a restaurant....Why do I try to comfort myself by overeating?????)


Visited Mom a while today...they had her up a little while in her wheelchair...

Hi Maria, here's the recipe for the veggie omelet: Stir fry until wilted in a tablespoon olive oil: 1/2 yellow bell pepper cubed 1/2 onion diced a handfull raw spinach leaves

Add to the cooked veggies: 3 eggs whole beaten with 2 tbsp water salt, pepper

Stir quickly once and leave it until omelet is set. Roll omelet or scramble, as you wish. Serves 2 Enjoy!

Sometimes I add shredded cheddar cheese to the egg mixture. Also, you can add tomatoes to the veggie mixture but take seeds out.

Sorry to hear about your Uncle's passing. But thrilled he was saved before he went! Hope your Mom can gain a little bit of energy. Sounds like the nursing home is doing OK by her these days. Is it a new one? I know there were so many issues at one time. God bless you and your husband and your family through the coming days!

Yes, it's hot and HUMID here in KY, too. We have had so much rain this year we have mold and mildew and leaf spot on roses everywhere and yet the grass is still drying up! I want to put out some plants (hydrangaes) tonight, but worory that the weather is so harsh that they may not make it until next year. Oh well, I'll have to take extra care of them. I got a bargain on them - $6.00 apiece! I thought your Mom may be in new place and I'm sorry I missed that. I have been on and off this site. SO GLAD she is better taken care of and happier, though! God bless you all!

I forgot to add fresh mushrooms in the recipe above - that's one of the ingredients that I always use in my omelet! Hugs to you!

Sorry you're feeling hurt by friends. It's understandable. I also get disappointed when people don't respond as I hoped they would. Makes me appreciate others even more. I hope your day gets better. You're taking such good care of your mom. I'm sure she really appreciates it. I know I've tried to be "better" to my mom as the years go on. It seems to take so little to make her happy. I just tell her she raised me right..... Have a really good day. My thoughts are with you.

I'm sorry to hear about the pesky people in your life--unfortunate, but you can't make people love or care about you if they don't--especially if they're running in a completely different groove than you are--drugs, alcohol or whatever.

As for the friend--these relationships change, whether it's aging or changes in their family/work life--again there's not much you can do if people pull away from you. Keep embracing the relationships that matter--protect yourself, keep your momentum going. And last but not least, don't do what I did and allow the toxicity of family relationships to profoundly affect your health!

I know you're a prayerful person, but you may also incorporate a little breathing exercise that goes something like this: Close your eyes and inhale (and say to yourself whichever word you choose) PEACE :: exhale STRIFE . . . choose your own word or words for this exercise--something positive on the inhale/something negative on the exhale.

PS I've done the same thing with groceries--we're only human!
