Dear Diary. I made the Curried Lentil Stew. I had everything I needed but added a bag of frozen mixed vegetables and used leaf spinach. Darla liked it. Meg won't go near it. I figure I have maybe 2 more days with it. Thanks GetBack.

That's the last of Puddles DDcabbage but I see more of it In the near future. A good substitute for all the Sauerkraut I was eating.

Well, that's all for now diary. Have a healthy day. Thanks for listening.

Progress as of today: 27 lbs lost so far, only 6 lbs to go!

Puddles on 02/28/2013:
Your being very consistent with your food. I looked up the recipe for okonomiyaki given by niftyjack and it is quite interesting - if you like cabbage as much as I do - It is also quite adaptable to changes for personal taste. Just get tired of cooking the same thing. Have a great day Raven.

getmebackto150 on 02/28/2013:
I'm so excited that you tried the Curried Lentil Stew!!! Its pretty good right? It definitely tastes healthy!! Its not something I can eat all the time, but a good healthy meal. I just finished mine up yesterday at lunch!! Have a great day:)

thenewMLE on 02/28/2013:
I have a big head of red cabbage from doing fish tacos the other night and I am going to try an Asian slaw. If I get something tasty and healthy I will let you know. I am not a cooked cabbage eater, but I did like the red cabbage sliced and crunchy on the tacos. Have a great day!

Tangalyn~ on 02/28/2013:
i wanna try that stew soon too... hope u have a great day!

thenewMLE on 02/28/2013:
Tell the girls you want your taco meat in a bowl with shredded lettuce, tomato and salsa! I never understood biscuits and gravy - the gravy looked like flour paste with no flavor. But I really love biscuits though!

biscottibody59 on 02/28/2013:
Keep up the good work!

lolla on 02/28/2013:
I am just amazed that you lost 27 ponds in two months! I am sure you will be able to maintain it. It is all a learning process anyway. One day at a time. Have a great afternoon/tomorrow!

Hey there Ohio! I always get the best recipes from our friends here on DD, awesome isn't it! Hope that you had a great day and thanks for the workout stud comment :)

biscottibody59 on 02/28/2013:
Thank you for your kind and reassuring comment! No dizziness today--go figure! (Not that I wanted it mind you:-) I think it was a combination of needing sleep and the MSG.

25min workout video.

Dear diary, I knew I was going to be out all day so I put on the workout video right after breakfast. Those 3 girls kick my butt. Lunge here, plank there. Core this, Core that. They let me stop half way through to get a SIP of water. I reached for my coffee instead :v) My stomach and legs are sore like last week. I started working out on a heavy punching bag. My stomach was tight after that 10min. But it was nothing like after this video. I'm pretty sure I'll be doing this every Tuesday morning.

Have a healthy day.

Puddles on 02/27/2013:
So you are getting a 6 pack Raven. Way to go Mr. Universe. Enjoy your day and take care. Congrats on the exercise routine.

Puddles on 02/27/2013:
By starch I mean - some pasta or potatoe or rice or pancakes or anykind of baking. All that no no stuff. I don't have to do it but it is recommended because when I go back to the two week plan of restricted it makes my body react to not having it and the pds go down. It is just the balancing act. It teaches you to have and have not and to go back to eating healthy after you have had a no no.

getmebackto150 on 02/27/2013:
Woo Hoo! Good job getting a workout in first thing!!

hi, you asked if i plan to exercise and the answer is yes! i want to walk outside, do power walks, but we keep getting snow here in the midwest! i don't own any exercise equipment and live in a condo so i'm just waiting for the weather to get a tad warmer...

thenewMLE on 02/27/2013:
I've never tried a workout video, but I have bought one and keep thinking about it. I'm afraid I couldn't keep up with it. But I guess I'll never know until I open the package and try it! Sounds like you got a great workout this morning. I don't think I could grab for hot coffee while gasping for air... Have a great day and thanks for the dress compliment!

Umpqua on 02/27/2013:
Great job on the workout. I would suggest water during it though to hydrate - your muscles will thank you later. Have a good one!

10min Elliptical

10min Treadmill

10min Heavy Bag

There's something I thought about yesterday and wanted to share. Sure, this thing we're doing is Dieting, Yes, this thing is getting Physical Excersise. But for me there is so much mental discipline I have to "deal with" daily, weekly, hourly, when you least expect it.

There are grocery lists, excersise times I have to "squeeze" in between all the little slices of time I've metted out to everyone else. There is dealing with the hunger I sometimes feel when I walk away from a meal that "just didn't quite fill me up". It's being unhealthy and large for so long and then you give this diet and excersise thing a shot, your friends and family see you "not being yourself" and you "feel" the eyes on you, and in your own mind you start to wonder if you're some sort of "hypocrite" for trying this...again.

And what does my "short sighted " self see ahead of me ? Another day of Less Food, Physical Discomfort, Criticism,...

It's a wonder I haven't just given up, like all those times before, and dropped out of this site, never to be heard from again, till in the future, that time comes again, that I can't stand to look at myself the way that others surely see me. I humble myself, confess my dietary sins, ask forgiveness and another shot at life.

In a nutshell, I just want to say, that It's not just the diet and excersise that gives me a daily, hourly, weekly struggle. It's that struggle between my ears that drives me and others dieters crazy sometimes.

Thanks for listening. I feel better now :v)

Honest and candid post today Ohio! Yeah sometimes the dialogue in our head can get to us..With almost 30 lbs lost you are already successful IMO..I am sure you know this but just sayin :) Hope you have a great day!!

mylilsista on 02/26/2013:
I totally understand where you're coming from. That train wreck between my ears is my biggest barrier, as well. I "felt" many things (mostly critical emotions and self-doubt). Unfortunately, I based my actions on those feelings. Then I heard someone say, "Feelings are NOT facts". When you examine the facts, the TRUTH is, you've lost 27 pounds and only have 9 more to go. Regardless of what you "feel", the evidence proves you are pretty successful at this and what you're doing is working! Is it working perfectly? No. But, it's is working nevertheless!

As far as other people, please try not to put too much reliance on their approval rating. At the end of the day, you and you ALONE, shoulder the consequences of every choice. Thus, it's alright to be whomever you are at the moment. Life isn't a popularity contest. You are becoming someone different, and damn it, that is kewl :)

skinnygrlwithin on 02/26/2013:
I love your post today...and it's just so true, the struggle that each of us face daily to keep in line with this "dieting"... the struggle to just feel normal, and live life the way you see people living around you. Well just know that you've got us to support you...and there's no reason to ever feel like you've failed or too ashamed to come here... this is the place where you come for support...we're here to lift you back up.

getmebackto150 on 02/26/2013:
Good job getting in touch with exactly how you are feeling... I totally have that same struggle from time to time... We are here to support you and you are doing so wonderfully!!

thenewMLE on 02/26/2013:
Love your post this morning! It is a struggle in many ways, but I don't want to think of it as a diet, I think of it as a life journey. I never regularly exercised before and I always ate what I wanted. And once the long term affects of that hit me, I realized that I want to be energetic and healthy and start living my life and appreciating my gift of life and hopefully sharing with future grand children the joy of life. Those little voices you hear are just testing your strength. You are succeeding beautifully and you must see that in the mirror. But it is more than what is in the mirror - it's the longevity of a quality life. I don't want to be dependent on my children to take care of me because I have abused my body. Yes, fat and cholesterol can abuse your heart. An over indulging meal is OK once in a while, your body can handle that, but it's the everyday abuse that shortens the quality of life. Keep up the good work and PLEASE don't just disappear from here - we need your encouragement too!!! Have a great day!

legcramps on 02/26/2013:
Great post :)

I agree that the fighting that goes on between our ears is just as large-scale as any other struggles we might be going through. The perceptions of others can greatly affect us in very profoundly negative ways, and I find that discouraging and unfortunate.

On the bright side, i've found that time really does heal! The more positive changes I make long-term, the easier it gets. Though I surely still have days where I feel the exact way you've detailed in your post, they are few and far between these days. Knock on wood!

biscottibody59 on 02/26/2013:
Your quotes above, "There is dealing with the hunger I sometimes feel when I walk away from a meal that "just didn't quite fill me up." "Another day of Less Food."

You should never leave a meal hungry, that is the kiss of death for your lifestyle change. If you continue being hungry, you will quit! Go buy some new potatoes or sweet potatoes for snacking on and eating after a meal. Eat an apple or two after your meal. If you're still hungry, eat some more. Don't add fat, oil or cheese to any of these potatoes. A sweet potato is perfection on its own in my book. You have to honor your hunger--it's there for a reason:-)

This sort of reminds me of all the women (always women on this particular site) who lose weight and then quit because their husband can't stand the change. Or their friends can't stand them being smaller than before. And they leave the site, discouraged. And if they come back, they come back having gained even more.

You have to do this for your health at the very least and everyone else can just handle it or not. Not easy. You're doing it!

Again, torturing yourself by white-knuckling it through hunger isn't necessary!

lolla on 02/26/2013:
Great insight! Funny that I was looking at this site about happiness yesterday and this guy was saying that we devote so much time with so many things all day but very few minutes to our inner peace, moments when we get totally quiet and realize our true nature is perfect, needs no fixing at all and that is what we are deep inside. http://www.brainpickings.org/index.php/2011/01/25/must-read-books-happiness/ If you have time take a look at the talk of book 4, Matthieu Ricard, I like what he said about training your mind to be less affected by what happens around you/other people's judgements about you. Anyway, thanks for sharing and making me think I am not alone in this journey!

niftyjack on 02/27/2013:
Thanks for sharing. And you're totally right about it being more than a physical struggle. In fact, I think the whole 'diet' thing is more a mental struggle than a physical one... well, at least for me. My body, once it got a taste of exercise and real food, is always ready to go. My brain, on the other hand, constantly gets stuck on, "I don't wanna. You can't make me. Leave me alone."

Have a good day. *FIGHT*!

Yes ! ! ! I lost 3 more Lbs.

We didn't stay for the chili cook off. Not because of my weigh-in, but she was tired and didn't want to stay. Had talapia fish instead of liver this week. Someone else posted that they were eating it and I wanted some ever since.

Put a whole hour in the gym downstairs, NASCAR was on and it was easier just to stay down there and let Darla stay upstairs and sleep on the couch.

I remember last Monday morning there were a lot of "Losers" on here. Ok, I'm gonna check who else is weighing in on Monday. I know a few but I don't want to leave anyone out. I'll write them down today.

You all have a good day.

We are hoping he will make it to the birth of his first grandchild. We thought the date was the end of May but it is the end of June. Ok, this is NOT for the faint of heart (or stomach) you may not want to try this at home. I read on here someone's version of chopped cabbage, chicken, and diced tomatoes. And I responded, "sounds great, I'm gonna try that." Well after my usual Sauerkraut was gone I bought a head of cabbage, turkey, diced tomatoes, a big a-- onion, and minced garlic. Cooked it all down an delicious happened. It tastes a little like spaghetti without the pasta. I'm gonna search the old posts and expose who ever gave me this idea. (It was Puddy/Puddles)I'm calling it DD "Cabbage" and ill probably eat it till It's gone. Which won't be long, cause Darla likes it too. I just won't tell her its diet food :v)

Have a good day.

... I'm confused as to why no one would want to try your cabbage pasta ... well, it's not sauce, is it... It sounds really yummy.

Also, re:peas and things - It's mixed frozen vegetables. Peas, corn, and carrot. I usually just call it that because that's what I call it out loud (minus the swear).

V on 02/22/2013:
Way to think outside the box with the cabbage..That really does sound yummo!! Okay I have another one for you that involves cabbage:

Brown 1 lb of lean Italian turkey sausage(you can use whatever meat you like) with onions, garlic and bell pepper(whatever your fave color happens to be) Drain the fat off the mixture if needed, add a can of Rotel Diced tomatoes, bring to soft boil and reduce the heat to low

Meanwhile, steam a head of cabbage til it turns dark green(or less if you are a fan of crunchy cabbage)..Remove the head of cabbage from water and transfer it to a colander.. Run cold water on it but don't immerse it.. Gently remove cabbage leaves off of the head (using the bigger leaves, you can use the remainder for side dishes/slaw) Put the meat mixture in the leaves(with room to fold every side) and fold like a burrito placing seam side down in a sprayed/oiled casserole dish..Top with another can of rotel, sprinkle fresh parm ontop..Bake for 30 minutes at 350 tastes like lasagna without the carbs :) Hope you had a good day Ohio :)

I so hear you as far as when you get to goal weight..When I reached goal weight, I was so afraid of adding variety to my daily intake so I kept going and lost far too much(I was scary thin :( ) Thanks to my dear friends Sweetpea and Umpqua, who was brutally honest about me taking it too far and I def listened to what they said.. With that being said, I for one can take the truth when it is coming from a place of love and concern..However I get what you are saying about not wanting to offend anyone..

Sorry that you don't have many guys here to discuss guy stuff with.. I come from a family of 5 brothers and most of my friends and coworkers are male so I guess DD is my girl bonding time in a way, LOL... Hope you had a great day!

Thanks for all the responses about the water. It was very interesting. You all made me think about it and understand its importance.

In the refrigerator at work, I still have 3 bottles of root beer that I haven't touched since January 1st. I swear that's the last time I had a sodapop. I was hoping a couple of co-workers would just take them. I'll put a free soda sign up. That should do it.

At Wendy's I ask for water now. At first Wifey would give me the "eye roll" and thought I was just being cheap. Now she knows differently.

During my meals I will catch myself with a mouthful if food, chewing, and dipping my fork into more food so I can have it ready to shovel in right after the previous bite has cleared the runway. Pretty efficient method if you're wanting to make a few plates of buffet disappear. I have probably been doing this all my life without realizing it.

But now when I catch myself, I put the loaded fork down, and take a big drink (count at least ten swallows) of water. I swear this breaks up my "shovelling" technique. And it makes me feel pretty full.

Well, I just wanted to say Thanks to the Group. Have a healthy day.

Progress as of today: 24 lbs lost so far, only 9 lbs to go!

Water is not something I crave for but I know I just have to drink it. I sit down at 1:00 pm and drink my 8 mandatory glasses and usually I have finished them by 2:30. Then in the evening will drink one or two more and its done for the day. I don't think I would do it if it was not the fact that I know it helps me loose weight. Have a great day.

Was scrolling through your diary and saw you lost FOUR lbs!!! Congratulations (doing the happy dance for ya!) Hope you got out and enjoyed our unseasonably warm day here in Ohio, Monday! Of course, this IS Ohio so the very next day the temperatures dropped, it began snowing, and we had high wind! I'm SO looking forward to spring! I took two nice, long, walks Monday. But today, it's too cold for that so I'm heading to the gym. Have a great day!

lolla on 02/20/2013:
I was watching a show the other day and they said that people that diet are interesting because we obsess about food and then when we finally sit down to eat it we shovel it down and pay no attention to it. Good job being aware of your eating habits, that is oh so very important.

V on 02/20/2013:
Hey Ohio!! Just wanted to say that you are a great addition to the group and a shining example of focus and consistence, not to mention your sense of humor :) Hope you stick around after you reach goal weight :) Have a good one!!

niftyjack on 02/21/2013:
I don't think I shovel, but I really don't pay attention when I'm eating. It's something I'm working on.

Also, re: tofu scum - You know that film/skin that forms on the surface of hot milk? I don't know why they wanted me to eat it, but they did. (It wasn't very good.)

SideSalad, 1ChikenBreast, minipopcorn, Pickle.

2slices of liver, 1sm. Potato, 3/4c beans.

1c soup, 10 almonds, another pickle, 2grapefruit, banana, yogurt.

All my water (1gal. or more)

Prayers (before every meal)

20min treadmill.

Morning, Dieters, Diarist's, Journalists and health nuts.

Today I want to ask you all about water. Why do we drink it ? Why so much of it ? I swear before I started this "diet", I would never touch the stuff unless it was mixed with coffee. And anything else was sodapop.

But now I've found it keeps me feeling kinda full. And I drink all I can before starting to eat my meals. I hear it FLUSHes our bodies out.(that's definitely true). Other than that, I just don't know.

So, anybody wanting to chime in, or think they know the answer to this baffling question, please post below. Looking forward to any answers to why.

Y'all have a good, healthy day.

Gee, Ohio, you really cause me to pause and think...I, too, did not drink ANY water before my weight loss journey but when I look back at it, that is the reason I have had 2 kidney stone operations. Water, unlike soda, coffee and even juice is 100% natural like what your body was meant to have from creation. I think if we drank more, we wouldn't be so confused if we are truly hungry or thirsty. Just like your car needs water in the radiator to function correctly, we need water to hydrate our muscles and other working parts. It's more than just flushing the kidneys and ridding the body of toxins. Back in November I was suffering with terrible foot cramps and after an embarrassing appointment with an orthopedist he told me my problem was "self inflicted dehydration"!! Now, go figure that!! I would drink 3 cups of coffee (and he said that doesn't count toward water intake because it has some kind of other reactions involved other than hydration) and I would take a 12 ounce can of soft drink that I would drink maybe half of it over my 11 hour work day and bring the other half home to have with dinner. I am now pushing and managing 3 BIG glasses of water a day, and 1/2 a bottle by me bedside at night. The foot cramps are gone. He said that my muscles were spasming because of lack of water. So that's my take on it!! Had I drank water before, maybe I would not have had those painful kidney stones!!! Have a great day!

Water... I have a touch time with it too... The way I see it and the way I was taught in biology and Anatomy and Physiology is that water is the flusher of all toxins and the replenisher of all cells. It is usable by the body in its exact form, no detoxifying necessary. You drink it, and it can immediately go to work doing its magic... Any other drink (soda, coffee, etc) needs to be broken down, taxes the kidneys etc before the body can utilize it and in the process some of it is wasted and it doesn't "flush us out" as well... Also there just isn't as much liquid left for the body to utilize... That said, I don't drink as much as I should:) Your menu looks great!!

IndependentEm93 on 02/19/2013:
I loved water before and now =)!

graindart on 02/19/2013:
Most of my daily liquid intake used to be Mtn Dew, with the occasional Pepsi to mix it up. For some reason I hated drinking water and it seemed to be hard to swallow it. Maybe it was drinking it from a bottle or cup as compared to most of my Mtn Dew intake being through a straw. I'd have to look back at my entries, but I think it's been 7 weeks now without a pop. The water intake was easy this time and might be due to me using the same large "pop jug" with a straw (just replacing the pop with water). In December, at the height of my pop intake, I was getting headaches which I figure were probably due to dehydration. Water may make me feel better and "full", but I do miss the taste and carbonation of Mtn Dew.

supercheese on 02/19/2013:
You are so much better with drinking water than me....I need to start doing this.......

lolla on 02/19/2013:
Water is life.

lolla on 02/19/2013:
by the way, four pounds down, you go boy!!!!

Puddles on 02/19/2013:
The purpose of water is to clean out your system but it also waters down your salt and that is why you have to be careful not to dehydrate yourself. It also burns calories while your body is working at heating the water to your body temperature it burn calories about 25 to 50 calories within 30min to 40 min after taking a pint of water. There are several other benefits to water. Google water diet benefit and it will give you all sort of stuff on the subject. Have a great day.

biscottibody59 on 02/19/2013:
You'll die without some water!?!

Realize that most everything we eat has water, so it's not necessary to waterlog yourself. As we age the thirst mechanism may be altered so that you're not getting the cue to drink like a youngster would. And of course excessive thirst may be a sign of diabetes--T1 or T2.

I was reading an article on a study of sleep duration and interestingly short sleep duration is linked to not drinking enough water--at least in that limited study. It included an evaluation of other dietary factors in the participants. If you'd like to read it, I'll link to it in my next entry.

Enjoy your evening!

Your have some really good comments so all I will add is that I LOVE it!! Hope that you had a fantastic day :)

And, on top of what everyone else said....it keeps you skin youthful looking too! I can always tell just by looking at my face whether or not I'm hydrated. : )

I'm glad you've asked that question. Everyone's responses are really interesting and informative.
