Weight: 178.2

(photo from Oct 2020)

I am showing off the cardigan I knit. In that photo I weigh 181 lbs.  I spent most of yesterday knitting repurposed yarn for a pullover to be big like this sweater is.

I used to weigh 212, but by cutting out anything deep fried and coffee creamers I dropped 25lbs in 18 months.

I have a coupon for one free medium 2-topping pizza from Domino's.   I  their pizza and allow myself two a month instead of weekly.

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.2 lbs to go!

Maria7 on 10/15/2021:
Oh, my! You sure are talented! Nice photo! Pretty cardigan! Enjoy your pizza-treat! You sure deserve it in dropping 25 lbs. We all have to have treats. They help us not feel deprived and we still stay on track! Fantastic! Maria

PlayingQuietly on 10/15/2021:
thank you Maria. I am a homebody and like to keep my hands busy.

bearcountrygg on 10/15/2021:
Great picture and you are quite the knitter....Very pretty. Enjoy your pizza.....good job losing the weight...I understand,...I'm a homebody too.

PlayingQuietly on 10/15/2021:
thanks for dropping by

Jacky82020 on 10/15/2021:
Terrific sweater! Nice color! I stopped using coffee creamers too and use chocolate flavored protein drinks. Use DiGionio (sp?) Not the very finest but less temptation to eat the whole pie LOL

PlayingQuietly on 10/15/2021:
frozen pizza tastes great & less expensive by far, homemade is great too~ lol ~ it's all tempting once it's on my table heheh so I keep my exposure down to twice a month anyway I like it. Sometimes I order it later in the afternoon as breakfast lunch dinner combined... that way eating 1,800 to 2,100 calories is the day's tally

Jacky82020 on 10/15/2021:
I used to make my own. Really want to again , used feta & caramelized onions. And salami on the husband’s half

PlayingQuietly on 10/15/2021:
love love love feta & caramelized onions

Jacky82020 on 10/15/2021:
STOP! Now you’re making me really hungry for it. LOL

Made it in a huge blackened cookie sheet because the husband likes his with fatty meats

Donkey on 10/16/2021:
I am a homebody too, and it warmed my heart to read that from you, in your comment to Maria.

Horn_of_plenty on 10/16/2021:
I am a homebody too. many times prefer my own company than that of a crowd! :)

i love reading your meals as they are foods i'd eat (but usually don't because i have my own usuals that i stick with...) but you give me ideas. for instance, i liked your ramen with lots of spinach in it...great way to make a food not considered to have lots of veg nutrition in it to be more nutritious. that's how i think of food too. i think what i can add to make things better, bc i like my ramen and cookies too!!

nice that you allow yourself to enjoy yhe foods you love, like dominos! i find that incorporating my favorites in, usually i'm eating something indulgent/sweet daily. just the portions are not large. and that's how i get away with you. also, i usually combine veggies with the indulgent food, if it's a meal. or i drink liquid like coffee or seltzer with a sweet, so i feel full after eating a small treat. :) it all works for me!

very nice weightloss. those coffee creamers are a huge calorie spike. if you drink coffee all day it can add up. i know donkey likes her creamers, but she limits how often she uses them. i use the low cal almond milk, so my coffee that i drink is extremely low cal, 30 cal a cup at most. i sweeten many things with stevia, liquid, i get on amazon. it's basically no cal.

Man! you made a tuscan crockpot soup yesterday!? sounds GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! super jealous. i should get cooking soon and more! :) i have a crockpot so as the weather cools more, i plan to use it more.

Weight: 178.2

Good Morning Everybody....  I just finished putting in my grocery order for curbside pickup on Monday.  By making my menus public I recognized expanding my repertoire would do me some good.  I picked out a few things to add variety for next week's meals.   I think the deck construction crew might finish up today, you know they worked between yesterday's rain showers? They simply held up in their trucks and waited out the rains.  Deer like to walk through the neighborhood at sunrise, I 'll be sleeping...

Dinner will be Tuscan Bean soup in crockpot

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 10/14/2021:
When you have soup for dinner, do you have just soup? I don't think that would fill me up, although I admire soup dinners when I see them on TV and such.

PlayingQuietly on 10/14/2021:
I say soups but should be called stews, are very dense but too wet for a shallow plate~

Donkey on 10/14/2021:
PS I adore crockpot cooking. Isn't it easy just to set it up in the morning, and then a lovely dinner by suppertime!

PlayingQuietly on 10/14/2021:
yes!

innerpeace on 10/14/2021:
That is an awesome photo! I put stew in my crock pot today...love my crock pot, I usually use it on my office days.

Maria7 on 10/15/2021:
I know you are happy you got your deck work done. Hope you have a blessed day.

I feel younger than I look~ and  knock on wood  getting older every day ...  yeaaa!

Menu Goal <1600 w/minimum 82g Protein & 41g Fat

1. split pea soup

2. cottage cheese peanut butter sugarless syrup smoothie

3. bowl of ramen + lots of spinach added in

My tally yesterday ended up over menu goal due to 500 calories popcorn & light margarine at 8p last night I specifically scratched off to NOT eat, but did anyway. Wrote up a whole blog about it this morning then deleted it ~ poof! ~

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.2 lbs to go!

I finished a crochet project. I’m thinking about what kind of yarn & color I’ll knit this season’s sweater.  Searching out yarns online is a big part of the pleasure. There are so many beautiful options.  I like knitting raglan style on one long flexible needle, because it’s seamless.  Sometimes I knit a cardigan, sometimes a pullover.

Well, it’s just after 7a and the contractors are out back on the deck.

Menu

Baked potatoes & olive oil and parmesan

Cottage cheese & pineapple tidbits,  popcorn + light margarine

Tomatoes+ chicken+ mixed bag veggies +Italian seasoning (crockpot)

got it right <1600 calorie w/minimum of 82g protein + 41g fat

Ps. I forgot I had split peas planned for this morning~ I’ll get to it tomorrow.   I would be short on fat grams, so I swapped out popcorn and choosing peanut butter on a spoon instead.

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.2 lbs to go!

Donkey on 10/12/2021:
Oh I love looking at yarns - the colors, the textures, the combos -- it's just delicious!

Gotta love those early morning contractors. For me, the worst are roofing contractors -- the constant noise of hammering just grates on my nerves. One of those necessary evils of homeownership.

PlayingQuietly on 10/12/2021:
hehe yeah

Jacky82020 on 10/12/2021:

That is sooo cool you live by the famous Mississippi! I live by another famous river, the Hudson River...will i don't live there, but work near it!

that's a lot of deck work you need! i hope it gets done...

also, i love to load up on veggies too when i'm hungry! :)

are you retired or did you work / do you work? you seem to be very precise / determined to do things well.!

PlayingQuietly on 10/12/2021:
I like numbers, so I think that's why I'm a little on the precise-side of things. I'm retired.

Weight: 178.2

I love  golden hues this time of year of all the fall's red yellow brown green  colors. I can't claim this photo as my yard, but it's a pretty acurate description of rural Missouri's smaller creeks and streams in my area~ I'm a couple miles west of the monster-sized Mississippi River and less than an hour's drive south of the city St. Louis.

It's a stormy Monday 'round town today.  My deck contractor was here at 7a and gone by 8:30a due to thunder & rain.  My deck needs 60 boards replaced and very likely at least one joist.  This is the month the contractor can get it done.  He figures it will take about week's worth of time to complete.

I was in a 'carb-y' mood  and slow cooked split peas last night for today & tomorrow's breakfast.

Monday's Menu

1.  split pea soup for breakfast 40g protein 0g fat  480 calories

2. bowl of peanut butter & oatmeal w/ sugarless pancake syrup lunch   20g protein  29g fat  520 calories

3. dinner is whole shrimp & ramen  + spinach leaves tossed in    35g protein 12g fat  505  calories

Please don't worry yourself about the lack of produce today~ I more than make up for it by loading up veggies most days of the week

Goal Menu <1600 calories w/minimum of 82g protein 41g fat

today is a success

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.2 lbs to go!

Gorgeous photo! You live in Missouri? We considered moving there during our hunt for an historic Victorian home. Some nice ones in St. Joe & probably other cites too.

PlayingQuietly on 10/11/2021:
I'm in Missouri 'the show me state' since 2001

Jacky82020 on 10/11/2021:
We considered moving there in 2004. Went to Pennsylvania instead.

Donkey on 10/11/2021:
Wow, you have a lot more colors in MO than we have here in Illinois.

Some days are more carby than others, and that's OK. If you're working a solid program, it all evens out in the end.

PlayingQuietly on 10/12/2021:
it's getting there (fall colors)

PlayingQuietly - Sunday Oct 10, 2021
(Snail's Pace)
Weight: 178.2

Got myself outdoors walking for some fresh air.  I only got two walks in last week.  As muggy as it was yesterday~ today is hotter still, so I’m pretty sure I’ll work with my 3#lb dumbbells.  I put the kitchen timer on 10 minutes and just keep moving, dancing, jogging in place etc. flapping dumbbells up and down etc. to get my metabolism up.

Popcorn microwaved after-midnight w/foreign movie.  500 calories   14g Protein 12g Fat

Head of green leaf lettuce  45 calories + lots of feta cheese  350 calories + dried dill + grated parmesan 60 calories.  I make my own dressing from salsa, horseradish mustard, red vinegar, sugarless pancake syrup, water whipped together in Ninja blender.     Big Salad under 500 calories  34g Protein 34g Fat

Nonfat Cottage Cheese 240 calories & Pineapple tidbits 160 calories
(extra cottage cheese this time 80 calories )  480 calories 48g Protein 0g Fat

I won! Because my daily Menu Goal is Under 1600 calories w/ minimum of 82g Protein & 41g Fat

Lots of black coffee, then lots of tap water… I load up mason jar with ice and munch on that too.

ps. eating just after midnight is tricky business for breakfast and I can only pull it off if I sleep in till nearly lunchtime, then have lunch on schedue and dinner on time.  I prefer and do 1000 times better with breakfast After instead of before I sleep. Eating in the twighlight hours usually messes up my appetite afterwards with a too early lunch and too early dinner then having to face all evening wanting to chow down.

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 21.2 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 10/10/2021:
Doing good all around!

PlayingQuietly on 10/10/2021:
thanks Jacky82020

bearcountrygg on 10/10/2021:
Do you count your after midnight snack as the next days breakfast and then go to bed?

PlayingQuietly on 10/10/2021:
One of my personal challenges is to make every meal a 500 calorie meal. That means I only have to deal with food three times a day.... so eating that popcorn was 'breakfast' 500 calories because it was after 12 Midnight and officially the start of a new day *and because my Saturday menu already tallied up to 1580.

Maria7 on 10/10/2021:
A belated welcome to DD! Glad you are part of the family! I do not post too often lately, been recovering from Covid but getting better but have been enjoying reading your posts. Have a blessed day!

PlayingQuietly on 10/10/2021:
Maria I'm so glad you are recovering, I'm still too scared to mingle in public stores and places where people gather because so many in Missouri do not have both vaccinations. Even though I'm full vaccinated I still use Walmart curbside service and wear a mask when forced to deal with face-to-face contact. I'm 64 healthy and don't qualify for booster till next year at this rate. ps. I just read in local newspaper my town officials Are requiring government employees to vaccinate etc. That makes me very happy.

little_one on 10/10/2021:

Donkey on 10/10/2021:
As humid as Illinois weather can be, I know that you all in MO have it worse. When we traveled downstate for my father in law's funeral, three years ago, it was amazing to me how much hotter it was, even in the same state.

You did well to get moving - good for you!

PlayingQuietly on 10/11/2021:
I was thinking the same thing come winter snows up north especially lake effect around Chicago.

Horn_of_plenty on 10/10/2021:
Hello PQ! ;)

great idea to add dumbells to your routine. that def helps burn more calories. i love your idea of putting on a timer and moving around for 10 minutes! i should do this! once in a blue moon, a month or so ago, i tried dancing by myself...i was like, "this is hard!"...meaning, i am so not used to even dancing for a longer timme period...and it is great exercise. so, way to go to you!

your salad sounds fabulous, plus you are making good use of the ninja! i have one too! a small one.

maybe plan to eat in the twilight hours, rather than not allow it, for now. like, carbs help me if i cannot sleep or get hungry in the middle of the night. you can have a tea or selzter and a banana...or a few cookies with some seltzer / water / tea after to fill your stomach. doing this helps me sleep, weirdly enough.

PlayingQuietly on 10/11/2021:
the ninja is great isn't it! I use it often

Horn_of_plenty on 10/10/2021:
nice menu yesterday. you have a lot of great ideas with food and cooking. potatoes are healthy, with their potassium. similar to bananas. i want to eat more of them; as they help me also with digestion (pooping) and solidfying things when i also like to eat a lot of watery veggies, a potato goes a long way to help bind everything. ...anyways, potatoes get a bad rap, but they are good. i have a sweet potato waiting in my kitchen to be roasted :)

PlayingQuietly on 10/11/2021:
oven roasted potatoes are worth the time (I don't have an air fryer)

Donkey on 10/11/2021:

PlayingQuietly - Saturday Oct 09, 2021
(Snail's Pace)
Weight: 180.0

You are all so nice welcoming me. Thank You very much.   I like to read most mornings for an hour to an hour and a half with black coffee.  I like modern fiction, and search out  award winning authors' books online for my stack.     The site www.readanybook.com is open to the public to read books online without any type of login. But first  I search for types of novels I like and lists of prize authors online then check the readanybook site to see if they have it.

This morning I popped russet potatoes in the oven for the 90 minutes I'm reading w/coffee.  The potatoes will have crispy crusts and tender insides.  I'll halve them length wise when they're done and butter them with I Can't Believe This Is Butter Light.  I'll eat the halves with my fingers as if they are the heels of buttered French bread. 500 calories

Lunch will be Greek nonfat Yogurt, drained Pineapple tidbits, sugarless pancake syrup in a bowl.  The juice is delicious & I take an antihistamine pill.  360 calories

Dinner is a crockpot of broccoli, chicken thighs, chicken bouillon, spoonful spicy salsa for some pizazz, olive oil, brown rice,  garlic.  It makes two bowlfuls which I'll eat in one sitting for 540 calories.

Thank goodness for electronic food scale I can switch from ounces, to ml, to grams, to fl oz without a miscount.  It stays on my counter top right next to chalkboard where I figure out macros of a meal.  Today's menu was a little light in fat grams so the peanut butter 180calories 15g fat I just ate fixed that.

Calories 1580   more than 82g protein & more than 41g fat I'm very happy with todays' menu numbers.

Tonight I have a little crocheting I can do, sudoku & hopefully a commercial free movie I'll like, ice cubes to crunch on and that will be enough entertainment for one day.

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 23 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 10/09/2021:
I have gone Air Fryer Crazy in the last few months. Makes crisp wonderful potato wedges. Spray lightly with that canned stuff. Great for steaks, don’t like them, but the husband does. I like the crispy breaded chicken & fish.

PlayingQuietly on 10/10/2021:
I've read a lot of good reviews for the air fryer, crispy fish sounds delish!

Jacky82020 on 10/09/2021:
I record what I can get on DVRs, to get rid of the ads. Hate them!

PlayingQuietly on 10/10/2021:
amen to that, I got 'on demand' movies & reruns ~ mostly can't fast forward thru commercials and I got a few free movie channels without commercials which are especially useful late at night when I can't sleep.

bearcountrygg on 10/09/2021:
Welcome....This is a great group of supportive and helpful people.......I like your idea of eating to be at the weight you want to achieve,,,,,,,and slow losses are better anyway.....I think you will enjoy being here.

PlayingQuietly on 10/10/2021:
Thank you, I was lying down yesterday thinking about the posts I read earlier. I liked knowing real live, breathing people are making an effort to eat & exercise. I felt motivated to make an effort so that when I post I am part of the momentum to do well too.

Donkey on 10/10/2021:
I really miss having TCM -- I don't have cable or satellite TV any more. My mom does, though, and really enjoys watching the old movies.

PlayingQuietly on 10/10/2021:
I must admit tv-movies have become my 'babysitter' (for me, I don't have kiddies) thanks to the pandemic.... oh well, at least I like to read, right? So my mind isn't complete mush haha

PlayingQuietly - Friday Oct 08, 2021
(Snail's Pace)
Weight: 180.0

I'm applying maintenance calories of my goal weight as my weight loss diet plan.  In other words if I keep my calories under 1600 I'm moving in the right direction... snail's pace if I don't exercise, quicker weight-loss if I do exercise.   I'm pretty good about three meals a day at 500 calories each.  I've gone out of my way to adjust portions to make each meal  500 calories and my day's total tally for  82 grams protein  41 grams fat  and  1500 calories.  I love carbs brown rice, popcorn, ramen, legumes.  I get plenty of carbs so I don't bother noticing carbs grams.

I don’t buy red meats (beef lamb pork) but I do love feta cheese, skinless chicken, shrimp, salmon, cottage cheese and yogurt as my main protein sources.

I love making stewed veggies with skinless chicken,   ramen with shrimp or salmon,  peanut butter sugar-free pancake syrup & cottage cheese smoothies, green lettuce & feta salad, roasted potatoes with olive oil and parmesan ... Those are my favorite 500 calorie meals.  I pick any 3 of those meals as my menu for the day.

My weight problem comes from eating out of boredom, exasperation and usually between dinner and breakfast. It's never about actual hunger.

Anyway, the reason I picked dieting this way is so I train myself to eat the way I'll have to anyway when I reach healthy 24 BMI at 157# weight.  It's a 2 year snail's pace project.

The protein & fat gram short-cut calculation  protein grams uses current weight in kg number, fat gram uses half of protein grams number I weigh 81.6 kg so  my starting targets are 82g protein and 41g fat .   I won't need as much protein & fat at goal weight 71.2 kg  (72g protein & 36g fat).

Day One's Breakfast Smoothie turns out like ice cream I eat with a spoon...  nonfat cottage cheese 12oz  240 calories +40g peanut butter 225 calories +60ml sugarless pancake syrup 30 calories + a few ice cubes all together in Ninja Power Blender *44g protein 18g fat  495 calories*

Progress as of today: 0 lbs lost so far, only 23 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 10/08/2021:
Welcome to our little group!

I’d think a person would lose fast on 1600 Cals. Sounds like you have many excellent menu choices.

PlayingQuietly on 10/08/2021:
thank you. I'm not one to spend a lot of time preparing meals so it has to be super easy and easy to duplicate and tasty.

Jacky82020 on 10/08/2021:
I despise cooking! Always have & always will. Avoided eating out even before covid, too much salt, fat & calories. I try to keep it simple & healthy.

Same here! But we still don’t see many new people. A new guy, Brett. had a late mother here, i think years ago,

PlayingQuietly on 10/10/2021:
ahhh.

Donkey on 10/09/2021:
I have not yet had the chance to welcome you, so WELCOME :-)

I love the idea of setting your calories at a maintenance level and then to let your body take it from there. Exercise will help move your journey along, just as you mention. Plus, it's essential to remain active. I'm probably older than you, and I work with much older folks, and watching them slide into inactivity has aged them faster than anything else.

Great idea to have "fall-back" favorite meals to go to. Very helpful when one doesn't want to put much thought or energy into meal prep, after a busy, exhausting, whatever-you-have day...

PlayingQuietly on 10/10/2021:
I take your comment about inactivity aging people faster .... that's what motivated me to step outdoors in my sneakers and take a walk yesterday~ you are 100% right about remaining active~
