Good afternoon guys

I had a nice time at the gardens it really felt unusual to be at the site of those paintings.  To step back and be in the very spot of such great works is mind blowing.  It was a very peaceful day and that is exactly what I was expecting.

I got on the scale this morning and it is down 1 lb.  This holiday is proving to be a great exercise routine with all the walking and the getting around the city.  I am enjoy it.  I have been experimenting with trying new street to get back home but I got lost yesterday and it ended up being a longer walk then expected.  You can just get lost in these wonderful small streets.

Today is a relax day trying a new cafe for dinner tonight.

Wishing you all a great day.

Progress as of today: 76 lbs lost so far, only 8 lbs to go!

I've really enjoyed catching up with your last few entries. You're doing amazingly well and it's nice to read about your adventures and also about the eating culture there. I think you're right in that they don't eat fast food and I think it's also that they eat small portions of real whole foods, not processed boxed stuff. That was the case in Italy, pasta and bread in small amounts (and of course lots of wine) but also lots of vegetables and small amounts of lean protein. You're so lucky you have another week there!

ohioraven on 08/25/2015:
Glad to hear Paris is doing you good. How hard would it be for you to just move there and stay. Just wondering.

puddles on 08/25/2015:
Would not be not hard but would have to get a permission from the Embassy and it would have to specify the duration of the stay. The disadvantage of permanently moving there is the kids and all of my Canadian benefits that I would loose out on and for that reason would not be to my advantage. For now I will enjoy the fact that I can travel to this place and take in all of what it has to offer.

livinglight on 08/25/2015:
Sounds so amazing! And so awesome that it's been healthy for you too. Really great :)

thinkpositive on 08/25/2015:
Love your posts. The museum where I guide had 2 of Monet's haystack paintings so I'm frequently thinking about his house in Giverny. Beautiful spot. Love the dining room of his house. Loved the restaurant L'Epigramme , may be in your neighborhood. Wonderful food at reasonable prices.

puddles on 08/25/2015:
L'Epigramme is in the 6th Arrondissemnt near St.Germain Bd.. I am in the 18th Arrondissement on the other side of La Siene but at about the same level. Thank you for telling me about that restaurant could be a nice going away dinner for me.

biscottibody59 on 08/25/2015:
Glad you're posting your trip fun. Sometimes getting lost is all right--good going on the walks!

Good afternoon all

Yesterday was a real nice day.

Enjoying the atmosphere around here.  Just a week left but I am really starting to just fit into a routine.  I have been watching what these people eat since I have been eating out a lot have learned a lot.  The scale does not seem to be showing any damage I still weigh the same - so if I look at that and compare it to all the liberties I have been taking you have to wonder if their is not some logic to their madness with eating.  It is true that I have been doing a lot of walking but in the pass few days the exercise has not been high on the agenda with the travelling back from Brussels and taking a day off.

This morning I went back to church at Notre Dame thought I would take advantage of that.  So wonderful and just something special about it all.  That was a nice walk not long but their is a flight of stairs that is enough to kill you.  They have steps here  between the levels from one street to the other and I almost felt like Stallon on the top step once I managed to get up there.  lol lol .....  Back for an afternoon little nap and will be heading out again.

I might not be on tomorrow since I am planning my day at the Monet gardens now that will be quite a bit of walking but there are benches all over to take a rest and then you continue -  it is a at your own pace kind of place.  They bring you there and then you know what the departure time is so all you have to make sure is be back at the bus in time.

Hoping you are all having a great day.

Good afternoon

All is good at this end - food is going good but my water seems to be replaced by wine lately .  lol lol  Wonder why might just be the surroundings.

Had a nice visit with friends stayed a little longer then expected but good company and great surrounding make for a good mix and God knows next time we will physically get together again face to face.

I have to admit I am a little bit tired from my little trip within my trip but all is good I am having a great time and a change is as good as anything else.  I would love to live here feel like home - well would love to live here for an extended period of time maybe a year or so would be nice to experience this lifestyle.

I have been doing good with the food it seems they eat much healthier then we do in North America.  It is a well balance diet of protein, veg but they always have that damn baguette of bread and the wine but I really have not felt that stuffed like I do at home.  I have been getting quite a bit of walking exercise also that could be the reason.

Well that is about all for me for now.  Relax day for my first day back in Paris - tomorrow to be determined.

Wishing you all a great day.

You know what they say, when in Rome drink what the Romans drink. Or in your case French wine. Have a Good Day Puddy.

livinglight on 08/22/2015:
Sounds like you are having a really wonderful time! And, well done on the food front - enjoy it!

grannyannie on 08/22/2015:
Glad you are enjoying yourself! It's a mystery how the French drinks lots of wine, have lots of pastries, use lots of butter and cream, but they aren't obese! I think the secret is small portions and they eat slowly.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/22/2015:
Hi Puddles! Glad to hear you are enjoying your time away and at a pace that is comfortable for you. I know what you mean by killing yourself siteseeing - my parents always were that way on family vacations - they were always non-stop! And even myself - I've learned I need a rest sometimes. No need to always push, push, push and then when you come home you feel so darn exhausted. I would say the best vacation is one that enlivens & rejuvenates you a bit! good going!

and I agree, it's a mystery how the French eat great food and stay lean. Maybe it's because Americans sit too much also!?

puddles on 08/22/2015:
I actually think they are not into fast foods as much as north americans.

thinkpositive on 08/23/2015:
All sounds wonderful. French people don't snack like we do. I noticed in markets that the snack aisle is small- some chips & nuts but not like ours. Smaller portions also. And yes, the walking makes up for the calories in the baguettes ! Thanks for sharing your trip with us!

Bonjour mes ami (ies)

I had a great day.  I have to admit my water intake is not doing as well but my food is being reasonably  good.

I have been in contact with some of my Belgium friends and might just take a little hop over to see them since I am only about 120km away from them (about 70 miles).  I enjoyed Brussels last time I was here so might just rent a car for a day or two and drive over and have a night away.

Today will start with my regular cafe breakfast and my wonderful coffee and then relax in the morning because I am planning to go over to the Louvre.  Will do as much as I can or want today and if I need to go back and do the rest will then go back another day.  So many things to see and do.   I am not going to pressure myself into creating a crazy run around and try to do it all.  I am here for a change of routine not to kill myself with site seeing.

I hope all is well with all of you guys.  Wishing you all the best.

Good morning

Just got up another good day.  The scale was down 1lb I can believe it with all the walking I did yesterday.  I picked up all my info I wanted yesterday to plan my list of things I might want to do.  I am not going to overload the schedule either because I do want to just take some time to myself to just enjoy the natives lol lol.....

The weather is quite agreable.  I have decided to take a little trip to Monet's gardens that is an all day trip it is just a little north of Paris but did not get to go there last time I was here so will do it this time.

I am enjoying the people of course they recognize my accent and can tell I am from Canada which I find a little unusual - friendly people.  I have been to the same cafe now for the mornings I have been here and they just bring me my cafe before I even ask for it now.  Such great coffee - you only need one of those to get your day going.  I find my english is getting bad probably because I am speaking french all the time.

So what is on the schedule for today not much - today is a relax day.  I have all the stuff to look over and decide - might take in a few shops around my area.

Wishing you all a great day.

I agree Raven - I am so not the touristy type anyway. What I don't see this time maybe I get to come back and do it again at another time. Definitely was a relax day.

Oh, I'd love to see Monet's garden! Hope you are taking photos to share! Sounds like you are having a lovely time.

I love Monet's painting. Will be nice to stand on that famous bridge in his painting and see his little house. Going back into the past always gets to me.

I've loved catching up on your trip, it sounds wonderful and I'm sure you're getting in tons of walking! It must be nice to be fluent in their language, we struggled when we went to Italy with our limited Italian. I'd love to see those gardens, enjoy!

puddles on 08/18/2015:
That is my next trip next Summer I would love to take a hop to Rome. The only place I really struggle last time was in Germany. Of course I was off the beaten track and very few of the natives spoke english but managed. Sign language is great lol lol Have a great evening.

Good afternoon guys

Yesterday was a good day food and water.

I discovered there is a scale in the bathroom and weighed myself and it is the same as home so 210 and will be able to keep track of weight while I am away.

I was able to keep myself up and awake and then when I went to sleep I do not even remember putting my head on the pillow lol lol.  I was out like a flash.  Got all my groceries done and enjoyed the neighbourhood.  Since it was Sunday I decided to go to church at the Notre Dame Cathedral - it was really nice.

Going for lunch at another little cafe a few street away.  I am going to wonder toward the champs elisee today.  I need to get the schedule for the Louvre.  Just need to get some other general info and maybe make a plan of what I want to do.

Wishing you all a great day.

Hi guys

Its already the 16th August here and it is 5:00 am which makes it 11:00 pm August 15th back home.  It was a good flight but I do have to work on getting my inner body clock on track.  My plan is to stay up today so that tonight I can sleep.  Its really a cute place.  I have the tall french doors that open on the street with the small iron juliette balcony - nothing I can sit out on but I can stand and look out onto the street and the surroundings.  I will be going to the corner cafe in a few hours and have a few expressos to keep myself awake.  Probably will have the typical Parisien breakfast.  A few corners away is a small deli grocery store and will pick a few items - fruit, veg, and protein for my meals and will probably do groceries on a two day bases.

Last night it was nice to hear the Cathedral Notre Dame bells ring I had not heared that in a long time church bells.  I will definitely get a lot of walking exercise.

Main plan stay up and awake all day.  lol  Settle myself into a routine.  Enjoy my holiday.

Wishing you guys all the best.

PS  My food today was almost non existent with the time change and the plain transfers and everything else did not think of food or even feel  hungry.

Good morning guys

Yesterday was a real good day food and water.

I was looking through my old dairies from about 15 yrs ago when I lost 143 pounds (it was accomplishing in 18months) and discovered and old dish I use to make with spaghetti squash that I had forgotten.  I love my pasta and spaghetti sauce and now I will be able to eliminate a lot of the carbs and calories by using the squash.  Funny how it is good to keep our old dairies.  I will sift through it more and see what else I was eating at that time.  I had been very successful at keeping the pounds off up to the time I injured my knee about 4 years or so back when I packed back on about 100 pounds.  It is also interesting to see in those dairies the maintenance strategy I was using over the years which ressemble a lot of my present inbetween integration of outings.

Well another rainy and cloudy day but very damp.  Will be another inside the house day and will just have to keep myself busy.  My suitcase is packed and ready I am not reopening it anymore.  If I have forgotten something depending how important it is I will either buy it there or do without.

Wishing you all a great day.

puddles on 08/12/2015:
That statement is pushing it a little - some days I don't know what I am doing at all. I struggle some days and other are good - more good now then struggles. Yes I am excited about the trip getting real close now.

Horn_Of_Plenty on 08/12/2015:
great entry. lately that's what I've been doing too....realizing what & how I've accomplished it in the past and trying to reinforce these habits again now. it's harder the second ... third ... fourth ...etc. times to lose the weight and maintain a certain athletic capacity...always easiest the first time when you are young and willing to totally sacrifice everything...

puddles on 08/12/2015:
This is my second time around to loosing the weight and actually hope to make it the last. If I can get another stretch of 15 years and manage not to injure myself again and land on my ass for 8 months I should be OK. 15 years will get me to 77 of age I should be OK lol lol

hollybelle on 08/13/2015:
Good post. I am kind of afraid to read my old diaries. I was SO focused and in tune several years ago I am afraid it will discourage me now because I don't know if I can have that kind of resolve again. But I may risk it and see what happens.
