The winter storm is dictating my life right now.  Roads are a mess and we are just eating what is in the house.  No real sign of when our town will get the snow problem under control.  The grocery list is getting longer and longer.  HaHa...we will survive though.  The wind kept us awake a lot last night and yesterday the power went out and back on at least 9 or 10 times.  Every clock was flashing almost non stop yesterday.

Just making do with what is on hand so today so far I've had oatmeal, a diet shake, coffee, 2 cookies , 2 small cans or seltzer water. chicken breast, baked potato, liquid butter, lettuce, red and orange sweet peppers, apple, almond butter, seed and nut bar

Progress as of today: 3.3 lbs lost so far, only 117.7 lbs to go!

horn_of_plenty on 02/25/2019:
wow...we got the crazy winds too! there was even a power line that fell or a wire at least, it caused a fire to the lawn!

silverysparkles on 02/25/2019:
No mail delivery, lost the top of a tree, sure has been a difficult winter but spring should be on the way.

Horn_of_plenty on 02/25/2019:
for us in NYC, there was hardly any snow. so i'm VERY thankful for that!....yes, Spring is coming ;)

Weather is keeping me inside again, now rain on top of the snow is making everything icy so I plan to spend some time in the home gym today.  Noom is holding my interest in a way that I'm enjoying.  Daily lessons and having them put my daily intake into categories for me is getting my attention.  I love that they automatically keep track of my calories.  It is fun and easy and I am eating a lot less than I have ever eaten and actually liking it.  I have been actually eating under 1,200 calories a day and not minding it at all.  I'm wondering if they will eventually get on me about that, but I feel great so I'm happy with it all.  Their psychological approach is clicking with me.  I feel like I have found my niche.

Today I've had an apple, coffee and a Quaker apple cinnamon breakfast bar, chicken breast, roasted potato, roasted carrot, butter flavoring, nutritional yeast, tuna, mixed pickled vegetables, coconut water

I think I also said here that it was costing $35.00 a month but I looked at that again and it does actually work out to $32.25 a month so even better.  I do have a 2 week trial period for $1.00 and then the 4 month program kicks in ( haven't gotten to that yet) but will definately go ahead with it.  With what I have to lose in all I think I will be on this program for quite awhile but I'm really motivated and I like their teaching style.  There is a lot of little joke kinds of things that lighten it all up and keep it from being too serious and stuffy, yet at the same time it is educational and taking things in steps.  I think I have found a way to do this painlessly and I'm really happy about that.  Sorry if I sound like an advertisement, I'm not, I will leave the advertising up to them.  I'm just a happy fan.

Progress as of today: 3.3 lbs lost so far, only 117.7 lbs to go!

Donkey on 02/24/2019:
I completely get it - when you find something that really clicks/works, you want to share it with the world :) I've never heard of Noom so I'm glad that you're talking about it here. That's very reasonably priced, I think. And more importantly, it works for you!

silverysparkles on 02/24/2019:
It is exactly what I've been looking for, it's funny how when you find the right thing, you know it immediatly.

Horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2019:
i'm so glad that you are enjoying the new fitness app! that's the most important thing that you like it and want to use it. that's how you make good habits, by actually looking forward to using the app and making some changes :) excellent.

that's how i've been successful too - but reading more and learning more on how to make healthy eating part of my lifestyle where it just becomes so much easier to just do it without even thinking about it!

silverysparkles on 02/24/2019:
I guess that is the trick, wanting to do what you enjoy doesn't seem like work, it seems like fun.

Horn_of_plenty on 02/24/2019:
i like coconut water too, for the potassium. what brands do you drink??

lately i buy the cheap brands, $1-$1.25 for a big 2 serving can that i drink while i exercise.

zico is sooo much more money so i find it really hard to pay for the expensive brands anymore. the difference in calories isn't even huge...so, lately i stick with the slightly higher sugar one. comparatively, 4 servings of zico is $3.50, but 4 servings of the other brands is $2.50...so, for the same type of thing, just a different brand, i settle for the cheaper one in this case.

other things, where there is no "cheaper" brand, i pay the money...

just coconut water has been around so long, lately my favorite taste on it is the Goya can.

silverysparkles on 02/25/2019:
The brand I have here right now is NAKED. I'm not real fond of coconut water at all but it was here so I'm drinking it.

After a few days of just kind of eating whatever, I decided that I was getting no where. The weather has been awful and more coming today, so cabin fever is starting to settle in.   I had been seeing a lot of ads for NOOM and checked out their website, which I must say, doesn't give any real info at all.  Curiosity got the best of me and I answered their questions and then they quoted me a price for 4 months which comes out to around $35.00 a month.  I had been considering WW and they would be about the same.  The nice thing about NOOM is that it is on the phone, the bad thing about NOOM is that it is NOT on the computer.  I signed up for the 4 months and just started.  I really love it so far.  It seems to suit me perfectly.  I also learned something else new today.  We have a built in pedometer in our iphones under the HEALTH button.  You do have to carry it with you all day in a pocket etc for it to be fairly accurate.  So far noom has been easy to use.  It doesn't tell me what to eat but it does tell me if what i'm eating is healthy or not.  It has several lessons each day and it does track my weight.  I can see that it has so far encouraged me to make small daily changes that are not overwhelming.  It says it uses psychology to make permanent changes and I can see where it is doing that.  This appeals to me and I'm really having fun with it. I think it is money well spent.

today I had oatmeal, an apple and coffee , 2 cups of pickled vegetables, sloppy joe meat, red pepper strips, quaker breakfast square, quest bar

Progress as of today: 3.3 lbs lost so far, only 117.7 lbs to go!

Horn_of_plenty on 02/23/2019:
so is Noom a phone app?

Nice job so far and i'm glad that you have decided that what you have been doing a few days ago isn't working and that you want to try to make an impact now and change now :)

great eats today. the sloopy joe meat and pickled veggies sounds wonderful and satisfying!

silverysparkles on 02/23/2019:
It is a phone app through ITunes.

silverysparkles on 02/23/2019:
But you go through noom first and you get the app after.

Donkey on 02/23/2019:
I have an internet friend who has a Samsung phone and uses their free app to count her steps. I guess she's not using her FitBit any more.

silverysparkles on 02/24/2019:
I have to keep reminding myself to put it back in my pocket but I think it will become a habit. I haven't worn my fitbit for months but the phone is always nearby. Now I just need to remember to have it on me at all times. Changes, changes.

Getting a late start today, snow all over and the phone started ringing early.

cereal, milk, muffins, coffee

Having quite the snow storm, schools all closed or closing, power outages . I'm wondering how long we will have power.

Trying to get as much laundry done as I can and some cooking ahead.  Power outages can last for days this time of year.  Just had friends get their power back on after about 4 days.  I'm wondering how it will go for them this time around.

I was shocked at the scales this morning.  Still weighing in dressed so it wasn't that.  I'm thinking the quantity of food I'm eating is so low that now it's finally catching up with me.  I feel like I'm fine cutting quantity way back because I'm already used to it ( I hope that continues).  I stopped counting calories a few days ago because that makes me think about food too much.  Right now, the less I think about food the better.  The kettle bells arrived and we will unbox them this morning and start working with them.  I think they will make a good addition to our home gym.  I don't have any idea how many calories I'm eating each day but I'm feeling good so I'm continuing that until  something different happens, I'm just happy to not be obsessing about food.  Right now I'm not even considering the idea of 3 meals a day because when I did that I ate because it was time, not because I was hungry.  I'm also taking vitamins every day to cover any missed nutrition.

Multi Vitamin, vitamin D gummy, vitamin c, omegas, probiotic, evening primrose oil, turmeric

coffee, cereal,mini muffins, milk

hot dog, bread, mustard

v8 vegetable juice, soup, kettle chips, crackers

yay.....! good job, Silvers!! :)

Proud of you - good job on making the home gym - CONVENIENCE is EVERYTHING in terms on sticking with a routine. THE MORE CONVENIENT, the better a change you'll be able to stick with it! that's also the FULL reason for my home gym!

:P, yes, listen to you body.

SilverySparkles on 02/12/2019:
I agree. It just got easier.

Meant to comment yesterday that navy bean soup sounds so comforting and tasty! Especially if it's cold where you live :)

SilverySparkles on 02/10/2019:
It is cold here. It's a good winter warmer and it really stuck with me all day.

Horn_of_plenty on 02/10/2019:
Loving the clean laundry, got that going on here, too! The best!!

It's also good to clean and organize, did it also over here.

Great way to start the week!

SilverySparkles on 02/10/2019:
It's all done and so nice to have a bunch of clean clothes again.

Up and in the mood for reorganizing the den/tv room so I need to take advantage of that before the mood changes.  Still trying to figure out what I want for breakfast so I',m putting that off for now.  Yesterday I reorganized the laundry room, getting that done just pushes me to do more.  I need to take advantage of this mood.

cereal (kix) and milk, coffee

Working on the den/tv room right now

Also now working on the master bd rm too.  Getting a lot done today.

Lunch was navy bean soup, mini muffins and 3 small pieces Dove almond chocolate.

I have to say that dove chocolate is so rich and satisfying that I don't even want much, unlike cheaper chocolates which I can over eat very easily.

sweet potato, walnuts, blueberry mini muffins, vitamins

mixed nuts

Donkey on 02/09/2019:
Oh yes, you definitely need to take advantage of that mood! I've got stuff to do, that yesterday I was excited about, but now that I have the time to get these things done, my motivation is quickly evaporating. I might feel differently once I eat something.

SilverySparkles on 02/09/2019:
I have to strike while the iron is hot too.

SilverySparkles on 02/09/2019:
I'm in the cooking mood today too so I'm making chili and navy bean soup. That should last us a few days.

Horn_of_plenty on 02/09/2019:
you remind me of me! i also was up and organizing, going thru bills and throwing out paperwork i don't need :) felt good to get my stuff in order! Cannot wait to send my taxes filing in and get the $ money back!

SilverySparkles on 02/09/2019:
It's nice when you get the money back...unfortunately we have to pay. But with bank interest rates so low, we go ahead and just get it over with.

Maria7 on 02/09/2019:

I'm so glad your eyes are better. that meal sounds soooo tasty. what brand of sugar free syrup do you use? is it stevia sweetened? i keep forgetting, i've been meaning to buy sugar free stevia sweetened syrup on amazon! thanks for the reminder!

SilverySparkles on 02/08/2019:
The syrup is Smuckers sugar free breakfast syrup and it's sweetened with splenda. Definately an cause gas and bathroom issues for us and while we like the taste, when this is gone I will probably look for something a little more friendly belly wise.

horn_of_plenty on 02/08/2019:
yeah, you can do better.

there are Stevia sweetened ones...i plan to grab one. would be tasty to mix into yogurt!

SilverySparkles on 02/08/2019:
That would be better, when this one is gone I will get something different.

horn_of_plenty on 02/08/2019:

We will be having a busy day today.

Daily weigh ins are going well.  It keeps me on track.

Some days my calories are higher and some days they are lower and I can live with that.

I've been eating some things because they are low cal and others that are high cal and it seems like it all works.

Even though I did get frustrated yesterday afternoon and didn't eat as low cal as I probably should have, I lost anyway so I think I just need to be me and do what works for me.  I didn't add what I ate later yesterday because I didn't want yesterdays post to end up at the top today and push other peoples posts for today lower down.

Progress as of today: 2.2 lbs lost so far, only 128.8 lbs to go!

horn_of_plenty on 02/07/2019:
yeah, as long as calories are moderate and not drifting into "binge land" too often, that's good. My calories are also different day to day.

Same here with the low cal and high cal. i like to mix the two into my meals :)

don't worry about pushing people's posts around....i do it CONSTANTLY.

i think i update the most and most often....so my posts are very frequently at the top...feel free to update as much as you'd like bc the system still works :)
