(Eat healthy and take long walks)
Weight: 143.0

I tried the air fryer and love it.  I kept it simple with the chicken in breadcrumbs. The old man wants me to try steak, TBones. I think I will and go real slow so they don't overcook. He likes them rare. I plan to slice and bake potatoes. We had a great exercise group at the church. It was too rainy to walk, so our yoga leader had us doing stretches. Almost everyone could do some, even two elderly ladies in wheelchairs. We are thinking about getting some dumbbells, the small ones.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 18 lbs to go!

happy-1 on 09/27/2022:
Sounds delightful!!!

SomeFineDayToo on 09/27/2022:
Make that one giant TBone! And please don’t turn it into bacon, my dear.

Jacky82020 on 09/27/2022:
I cook TBones in the air fryer! Start off with 5 minutes per side and take it from there. They’re good! I don’t eat much beef, but my husband likes his rare steaks.

Crystal92 on 09/27/2022:
Your church exercise group sounds great! All they do at my church is ask for donations. LOL

It really sounds awesome!

I am exactly 143 pounds!   Little Bobby is a miracle worker! I am getting close to 5,000 steps on days that include Shopping and extra housework. My son gave us his old air fryer. They wanted a bigger one. I've had some pretty good meals with it at their house. I like tge breaded chicken the best. This is a real calorie cutter. We are making improvements on our exercise group by forming many small groups.

Progress as of today: 2 lbs lost so far, only 18 lbs to go!

SomeFineDayToo on 09/25/2022:
Good for you! It’s all because of me. I finished off the pie.

SomeFineDay on 09/27/2022:
You did! And the cookies too!

Donkey on 09/26/2022:
We have an air fryer too. Life-changing to be honest. Husband does most of his cooking in the air fryer now.

Great job on your step-count!

SomeFineDay on 09/27/2022:
Thank you. I am excited about the air fryer.

Oh my goodness!   The old man, husband, got  an email from thise webmaster kids and posted again. We'll have to see how long he lasts this time. I think the weight is wrong for him in the charts and we  need our granddaughter to help. She's had a little computer since she was four! My son had her watching educational videos for little kids and she got an early start on reading.

I managed to get the old man out of his lazy boy chair and onto the treadmill. He was able to walk at a very slow pace. He had a knee replacement last year and the doctors all said the more walking the better.

I have an ankle strap now. I was afraid of getting the Fitbit wet outside gardening. I tried to get the old man  to wear it and you'll never be,ive ehat he said! He threatened to smack Little Bobby. Monster!

The church exercise group isn't going well and we need to work on it. The main problem is too many people can only do certain things. We have some big girls in their 30's and 40's, so very young, but slower than some older ladies like me who are more active. We are walking more in pairs then in groups. The yoga teacher, an active church member, has some people sitting down in chairs For yoga. It is really like they are doing stretches. I asked the old man to join the chair group but he said no, all ladies. But my granddaughter founf chair stretches he can do at home and printed them. She has a ice computer printer and makes nice photographs.

horn_of_plenty on 09/21/2022:
chair yoga is still a hardcore workout! i have tried it, during the long dog days of Covid when everything was online; i had take a zoom class or two with chair yoga. it was hardcore and a good workout!

there was a lot of posture involved and being that i'm always on my couch, it felt like a good workout; the chair yoga.

it would have been nice if he would go to yoga, even if he's the only male. is it ffree? donation?

Donkey on 09/22/2022:
The walking group sounds about right, because everyone goes at their own speed. The faster ones could walk further, to meet up with the slower ones on the way back. Or everyone walks the same course, just at their own speed. Prayer and fellowship before and after.

Nothing wrong with chair yoga for those who need it. My Husband has mobility issues due to his disability, and finds chair yoga to be quite challenging. I enjoy a good stretch, always, but some of the poses where we're standing, using the chair for stability, DO challenge my balance.

Jacky82020 on 09/22/2022:
Yeah, it’s always like that with groups that mixed age and fitness levels, especially fitness levels.

A friend dragged me to a chair yoga class once. The instructor passed out long men’s ties and everyone did stretches with them, some sitting and some standing. I think this was through the local parks & recreation. At the end, everyone put 50 cents on the instructor’s table. It was just too low level for me but great for others. Any movement is better than none. My friend was younger but a lot heavier than me. As in twice as heavy.

Rainbow! on 09/24/2022:
Best of luck with the exercise group! Every church should do that. HUGS

We are placing a notice in the church bulletin for an exercise group. Someone does yoga. We plan on a mix of exercises. Speaking of exercising, we got plenty working on the flowers beds at church. Jacky, you should not have said yoir Fitbit said 25 steps to walk done the hall when it was really over 80. The old man told Little Bobby to bake an apple pie when he only had 500 streps. He the boys did two thousand. LOL

Progress as of today: 1.2 lbs lost so far, only 18.8 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 09/16/2022:
LOL! Little Bobby will be ready for a marathon soon. Good for you, helping on the church group classes. Sounds like fun!

happy-1 on 09/16/2022:

Donkey on 09/17/2022:
That's nice that your church is trying to start up an exercise group - yay! My church was doing a yoga thing, but it was during the day during the week, when I work, so I couldn't partake. Then COVID shut it down, and it never resumed after that.

Little Bobby - LOL!

Rainbow! on 09/17/2022:
I never go to church unless it’s for a wedding, baptism or funeral, but I want to go walking with you, Little Bobby and the church ladies. Can I come? LOL

Little Fake Bobby is going to have to do some real stepping to make up for the after worship breakfast.   everything was good and not very healthy.   They didn't have oatmeal or fresh fruits or even plain scrambled eggs.   They put shredded cheese in the eggs.   I wanted to skip this meal and take a walk in park with my granddaughter.   She is very sweet and doesn't mind walking slow for me. But the old man, my dear husband, said we make enough donations to the church so we should stuff our faces with free breakfast because he paid for it.   LOL.   I hate to say this, but almost all of the older people there were overweight. Maybe I should ask Reverand if we can have a group walk. He  is young, but not  exactly skinny. Maybe one of the younger women at church can organize an exercise group. We have a big auditorium and I know the Reverend wouldn't mind.   The only thing he shut down was a teenage game night.   Some of the parents who promised to supervise didn't show up, but all the kids did.   Some  brought friends.   They got too rowdy and Reverrand and his wife were afraid someone would get hurt.  They called on the patents to come and take them home.

Progress as of today: 0.8 lbs lost so far, only 19.2 lbs to go!

horn_of_plenty on 09/11/2022:
your walking group sounds good! also, maybe add healthy options to next time's breakfast....believe it or not, many people love cut up veggies. i bring cut up veggies all the time, veggie platters, to my friends' house parties. everyone eats all the veggies. they go fast beccause people know they are tasty and healthy...at least at the parties i go to. most of the food is chips and dreck...so they are really happy to see the veggies. usually i have a dip with them (or people have a dip made), but there are now healthy recipes to yogurt-dips that taste the same as their more unhealthy counterparts. you just need the right seasonings and ingredients.

Donkey on 09/12/2022:
Your husband sounds like my Husband. He would say that exact thing, and he loves a big breakfast like that. Ugh... The baby shower I went to had "breakfast" as the meal, which was basically reheated frozen pancakes with candy.

happy-1 on 09/12/2022:
I can't even picture how a game night for teens at a church would get rowdy!!!

I love the idea of a walking group.

Rainbow! on 09/13/2022:
You would need two people to supervise one teen if your church kids are like my junior high students. LOL

I am getting tired of oatmeal everyday so had scrambled eggs today for breakfast with lower sugar and sodium ketchup. It tastes the same but costs a lot more. I drank coffee with low fat milk whike my husband drank half a bottle of orange juice and asked me to make his eggs into a cheddar cheese omelette. He wanted avacados  too, but we only have firm ones that need to ripen. Bobby is still doing good on the treadmill! LOL

You're doing very well! Perhaps your Diet Diaries name should have been Bobby - lol! But I do like your name as it is.

It's hard to diet when your spouse is not on the same page. I remember many nights where I'd be trying so hard not to eat any more, and then my Husband would come in with a big dish of ice cream. Not helpful.

horn_of_plenty on 09/08/2022:
yeah, that is why i SOMETIMES do not buy the lower sugar versions...i have that is sometimes so much more. but it depends on the items...i still spend $ on kombucha when i want it; and those bottles cost usually $3.50 for a 16 ounce bottle...and upwards to $5...but i usually do not spend when they are $5 each.

i think to soften them faster, you put the avocado in a closed paper bag.

nice job to bobby on treadmill.

you are doing good with your goals and activity, nicely done!

happy-1 on 09/08/2022:
Target and Food4less have cheap low sugar/sodium ketchup. Target has it on their website.

Your husband can make his own breakfast!!!!

coffee&calories on 09/08/2022:
You are doing great! I also don't like to spend so much more on diet products, so I pick and choose what is most important - and what will have the most bang for my buck. Like I used to buy sugar free gummies, but then I thought its not really worth it, they are still quite caloric, might as well save more than half the money and just eat a couple less of the real ones :)

Jacky82020 on 09/08/2022:
Bobby will make his daddy proud when he does 100,000 steps in a single day on one of those cheater things.

Hahaha!  Fitbit sent me a report on my imaginary child Bobby. It never occurred to them an adult may want to start with a simple inexpensive device, so they forced me to create a kid. it's a good thing my boy Bobby is fake because so is their report on my child. He did closer to 3000 everyday and it looks they got it all wrong and said Bobby can't even walk 250 steps a day or a hour. I am not sure what they are saying about my boy, but he's not that lazy. LOL

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 18.2 lbs to go!

Jacky82020 on 09/06/2022:
LOL! That’s about the same as my weekly reports. They say stuff like I exercised 7 out of 5 days, or zero out of 7 days. So don’t feel bad about Bobby. Fitbit calls me lazy too.

SomeFineDay on 09/08/2022:
LOL! Fitbit is funny!

I don't have anything  new to report. I am on the new used treadmill everyday, but for short time periods. I mean very short, five to ten minutes.     They do add up! I am getting close to 3,000 a day, but think it will take a while to build up to 10.000. My old man said I can always cheat and move my arm up and down. But like Dr. Now used to say. the scale never lies. Remember him? He was on My 600 Pound Life. I think they stopped after a few years and kept showing repeats. It would be interesting to know if all those people who lost hundreds of pounds kept it off. My son said those bariatric surgeries are not 100% and most people regain some or almost all.

Progress as of today: 1.8 lbs lost so far, only 18.2 lbs to go!

happy-1 on 09/05/2022:
Yeah, I have a couple of friends who did those surgeries and they actually lowered overall fitness because they were always so uncomfortable.

There are no shortcuts.

horn_of_plenty on 09/05/2022:
slow and steady wins the race. look how many people just skip getting on each day....so doing that 5 or 10 minutes is habit building and a very good thing.

i would love to also know the % of those on that show that kept the weight off..would be interesting to hear.

i know several people at least who had the bariatric type surgeries. they all gained a little weight back...and some gained so much it's hardly worth the surgery.

i will say it was a good thing for at least half of them who had the surgery. 50% i think took it seriously.

Jacky82020 on 09/05/2022:
I think HoP’s correct on those numbers.

I started off slow on my first treadmill too!

Donkey on 09/06/2022:
That show - My 600 Pound Life - is like crack to the brain. I love it. I don't know why, but once I start, it quickly swallows up my time.

I've personally known 3 people who had bariatric surgery, and 2 of them had a radical personality change, divorced, changed their lives, etc. The 3rd person I know is an elderly male relative, so at that point, I'm not sure there's all that much radical left him in.

Don't be too surprised if there isn't much news to post on the dieting front. Weight-loss is slow and tedious and boring. I think that's why so many of us started sharing other aspects of our lives. But it's good that you're checking in -- that never gets boring!!!

horn_of_plenty on 09/06/2022:
Donkey has a good point regarding why we started sharing other aspects of our lives.

I am really liking the little yellow Fitbit. I did almost 3000 steps today. My grumpy husband says it's the dumbest thing he ever saw. I explained I like the app and how it keeps all daily steps counted. He said it's a joke and he will go to the Dollar Store and buy a notebook for a dollar and write down my steps while he watches TV in his big chair. LOL. I like it better on my iPad. My son bought me a very big iPad, the iPad Pro. It is the kind the doctors at the hospital carry around, usually with a strap on their forearm. Since my eyesight is not as good as it used to be, I able to read books on this big tablet. I can blow up the letters with finger gestures.  Even the large print library books were getting hard to read. That's why my son gave me a big iPad.

Progress as of today: 1.2 lbs lost so far, only 18.8 lbs to go!

horn_of_plenty on 09/02/2022:
that's a great idea; with the very large ipad to blow up the letters even larger.

i even have read a couple large-print books...just because that was available; and enjoyed them like that with the bigger print.

Donkey on 09/03/2022:
That's very good! I think it helps just to be aware of one's activity levels.

I love large print anything.

Jacky82020 on 09/03/2022:
Wow! You have the King of IPads. I saw the Pro online. It is almost 13 inches. I measured mine, not a Pro, and it’s under 10. That 3 inches on the diagonal makes a huge difference. I have seen hospital physicians walking around with these big ones, strapped to their arm and held at the top like you say. I can always tell they’re iPads because the classic bitten Apple logo is on the back.

When my husband got serious about running, he wrote everything down in a notebook. Not steps, but how far he ran and how long it took. Same thing with his heart rate and pulse, in notebooks. I don’t think they had activity trackers 25 years ago, but he doesn’t like them now and would not have bought one way back then. I am wondering if activity trackers are more popular with women than men. I’ll try to google it.

The Fitbit came overnight  because my granddaughter has Prime. We set it up on the tablet.   It took a long time. I was forced to make up a kid, because this is the cheapest model meant for kids and the parents can watch the kid's activity.   All it can do is count steps. I thought it could do sleep, but you have write in how long you sleep everyday. It is not automatic. I did not walk the steps the picture says. It asked what activity I wanted and I put in walk half an hour.   So it jumped from a few steps I got by waving the device to see if it would count steps up to 2500 more because it thinks I already walked half an hour. lol. The wristband fits. We were surprised.

Progress as of today: 1.2 lbs lost so far, only 18.8 lbs to go!

happy-1 on 08/31/2022:
Well a fancy pedometer isn’t a bad thing…

Donkey on 09/01/2022:
I'm so glad to hear that the strap fit, because it is bright yellow and fits with the whole minion theme.

Nothing wrong with just counting steps. That's what my first FitBit pretty much did. It had a basic sleep feature, but didn't provide much detail.

For what it's worth, I was prompted to upgrade because I wanted a FitBit that had a "reminder" feature to move every hour. This is because I spend most of my day on my butt in front of a computer at work.

Jacky82020 on 09/01/2022:
All my more expensive model Fitbit does right is count steps correctly now. It messed up from the get go. If the heart rate and blood pressure numbers were right I’d be dead. I contacted customer service and they said to remove the battery and reseat it. My husband has some jeweler’s tools he uses on tiny carburetor parts. But I was afraid he’d mess it up more. I wish now I’d let him try and then contacted Amazon for a replacement, but I let things slide and it became too late for an exchange.

The bad heart rate and blood pressure numbers didn’t matter. I have devices at home that can more accidentally measure those. Many years ago when my husband took up running he bought the kind of blood pressure monitor that requires a stethoscope. I always had trouble with it, but he had no trouble watching his BP drop over the years and wrote it down in a notebook. Now we have the digital kind available everywhere. It’s easy to use. Once I took it to the doctor’s office and tried it after the nurse used the stethoscope kind. Our numbers were very close.

With our limited devices we can still keep a record in the app of our steps. Beats my husband’s old paper notebooks. LOL

Jacky82020 on 09/01/2022:
Meant to say more accurately, not accidentally.Autocorrect filled in the wrong word.
