Weight: 153.4

Hey, everyone, Happy New Year!!  So my weight went up just as expected.  But I can't seem to get back into gear yet.  After the prep for the colonoscopy, I was down to 147.2.  Woohoo! Nice to see on the scale but I knew that wouldn't last.  And I've been up as high as 154.2 after Christmas Eve but at least, I haven't gone past the 155 mark.  So still going according to plan.  Okay, just wanted to check in.  (Oh, BTW, the colonoscopy results were great so no problems there.  I just hope that colitis doesn't come back again.)  Hope you're all doing great!

Progress as of today: 37 lbs lost so far, only -6.6 lbs to go!

OhioRaven on 01/01/2014:
Good to hear you're in good health.

Maria7 on 01/05/2014:
Woow...congrats on your weight! Hope you're having a good day. :-)

Another pound gone!!  But yesterday I was 149.6 and good to see the 140's but I had Mexican food for lunch so no surprise with the small gain.  Tomorrow I start the liquid diet prep for the colonoscopy on Friday.  So maybe I will lose again then.  I will try to have better control after that in preparation for all the good food we're having on Christmas Eve at my house---ham, baked beans, potato salad, green bean casserole (I didn't get to make that on Thanksgiving since I was in the hospital), chips, dip, cheese ball and crackers, candy, cranberry-cherry pie and cookies!  I will exercise control somewhat and I can't eat as much as I used to anyway but do expect a gain.  Hubby and I took a nice walk this morning, about 40 minutes, temps at 49.  I hadn't walked outside since Saturday except for shopping.  So I plan to do some more walking outside over the weekend.  Anyway, all is good here.  See you soon!

Progress as of today: 40.2 lbs lost so far, only -9.8 lbs to go!

Hey, down a tad more.  It's going so slowly--but surely.  I remember how I thought it would be great to get down to 160 and didn't really think I ever would.  So very happy.  Mom asked me how much more I was going to lose and I said I would just keep going but I won't get crazy with it.  If I can stay in the 140's when I get there, that's my plan.  I'm feeling great now, not completely pain free, but then, who is?  I went for the treadmill stress test Thursday and passed with flying colors, won't need to see the heart doc for another year, if all is going as well as they are now.  I've been walking around on a cloud all week.  Although, I will be going in for a colonoscopy next Friday but I've been there before so no surprises.  I just hope he doesn't find something abnormal but I'm not losing sleep over it now.  I am taking a Probiotic now, BB59, thanks for the advice.  The nurses told me when I was in the hospital that I should take one because of all the anti-biotics they pumped into me.  Also, I'm finding lately that I can squat easier with not as much knee pain as I used to.  It helps with the back not to actually bend from the waist.  A few years ago, I tried to get up on a chair to get something from the top of my closet and got one foot up but couldn't pull myself up enough to get the other foot up there so I had to use a lower stool to get up onto the chair!  The other day, I got up onto a chair a lot easier.  So I'm having small successes now.  Don't worry, I don't make a habit of climbing up on chairs but sometimes, you know, I just have to do it myself and I've been doing Christmas decorations.  I still have times when I feel like I never lost any weight but when I look in the mirror, I can see the loose skin on my legs and arms (must start doing some exercises to build the muscle soon).  And I even had my hubby check my scale against his and, of course, I can see the loss on the doctor's scale, so I do know I have really lost the weight.  I know it's not a great amount but I can wear all new clothes now and have had fun trying on all the smaller sizes that I've had put away for years.  And I get lots of comments!  Well, okay, if I don't see you all before then, have a wonderful Christmas or other holiday and a Happy New Year.  Thanks for the comments!  You all ROCK!!

Progress as of today: 39.2 lbs lost so far, only -8.8 lbs to go!

(normal eating and exercise)
Weight: 152.6

Good morning! I'm up so early this morning, couldn't sleep, so only got about 4 1/2 hrs and I'm an 8 or 9 hour girl. I woke up at 5 and now it's 7:24. But I'm feeling pretty good, especially since I got a surprise from the scalemonster. But I have to tell you, I was in the hospital last week for colitis 2 days. They pumped me full of IV anti-biotics and the morning after I got home, I weighed 160.2!! Aagh! But I knew it was the fluids and it's coming off fast. I still don't have much of an appetite though so that helps too, hah! I'm still taking anti-biotics in pill form but only have 3 more days on that. I think that's what's keeping my appetite low. Sometimes it feels like everytime I get a good jump on the weight and the exercise, something comes along to spoil it, so I tell everyone that you need to do the best you can while you're able cause you never know what's going to hit you. And, believe it or not, I can't wait to get back to my walks!! Right now my back is acting up also, maybe from the hospital bed, I don't know, or I pulled it some how while being so sick last week. Oh, well, have to think positive and hope it's all better soon, very soon! Onward and downward! I never thought I would ever get to this weight again, haven't been here since 2001, I think. I missed Thanksgiving completely, that's the day I was released from the hospital, late in the day. My sister sent some leftovers home with hubby but I didn't have much appetite for any. So, anyway, the message from me is: get out there and get it done while you're healthy and able, you never know what the future holds for you. And you'll feel better for it! Take care of your heart cause I found out "it can happen to you!" Hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving and, if I don't see you before, have a wonderful Christmas or whatever holiday you celebrate. We're all in this thing together, right? And thanks for your kind words, biscottibody59. It's amazing what they can do for a person! Bless you all and I'm glad I'm still a member here.

Progress as of today: 37.8 lbs lost so far, only -7.4 lbs to go!

Sorry you're not doing good right now, but I'm sure your attitude will turn that around. It's good to have you as a member.

biscottibody59 on 12/05/2013:
I'm glad you're still here too! Maria7 was here not too long ago too. I don't know what's become of all those old members. OhioRaven is a guy, BTW. Graindart is a guy, but hasn't posted in awhile.

I hope you're feeling better after your hospital stay. And the back problems too. Since you mentioned antibiotics, have you ever tried probiotics after a round of antibiotics? Of course you might need to check with your dr.

Keep posting--always good to see your updates:-)

RYC on exercise: Thanks! Just wanted to let you know that the boot camp thingy can be done by anyone--all body weight. And you can pick your own exercise. The way I go about it is to do as many reps as I can until I give out (more or less). The squats were very challenging at first and I've improved.

If you can walk, you can do anything.

Exception would be if your dr hasn't cleared you for pushups or other activity because you use the chest for instance--but you could start out with doing them against the wall. The squats you could do from a chair. Also, youtube is a good resource for technique and starting from the level that's comfortable for you.

biscottibody59 on 12/05/2013:
RYC: Yeah, there were some good ol' days here with DDs. StellaStarr (and all her incarnations) and Herb (and that other guy who was his running buddy--Ron?). As they say, too numerous to mention--haha!

Here I am, 2 days in a row, Soonie's on a roll!  Great weather here this morning, 61 right now.  It was 54 when I left for my walk this morning.  Going up to 86.  Not a cloud in the sky.  No excuse for not getting out there.  I did 40 minutes of walking but haven't done the flabby arm exercises yet.  So all is well and I'm happy with things.  The rest of my life, well, not so good there but I won't dwell on that, could be worse, I guess.  Take care and have a great day!

Progress as of today: 34 lbs lost so far, only -3.6 lbs to go!

Good to know your chest is getting better. Go Soonie! Keep up the good work!

Mostly it's good that I have MY troubles and not someone else's:-)

This is the better takeaway from your post: "So all is well and I'm happy with things."

Hey, I'm still here, lurking around.  I'm losing a little, very slowly.  Had a trip to Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago but gained less than a pound in the 5 days, a lot of walking around.  I was happy and relieved about that.  My current weight is a new low for this go round.  Now I just need to keep it going.  I have a doctor's appointment on Monday so that gives me incentive, what with the weighing in and all.  And now that the weather is great here, highs in the low 80's, lows in the 50's (that's why we live here) perfect weather for lots of walking outside.  So I am taking advantage of that.  My health is good and my chest is almost back to normal (remember, that heart surgery on New Year's Eve).  I am able to do 40 minutes of fast walking now almost every day.  I'm not doing much else on the exercise so I need to get back to working on my old, flabby arms.  Hope you're all doing well.  See you soon, I hope.  Take care.

Hello, everyone! Just thought I'd enter my new weight even though I've been down to 159 and then, back up as far as 162 in the last weeks. That's how it seems to go for me, I go up and down but I go up less and down more, or something like that. So I guess if I had it on a graff, the trend would be slowly in the downward direction. I would just like to have all "downs" but wouldn't we all?! I'm still doing my 40 minute walk (not as regularly as I should) inside my house. You would think I couldn't get much of a workout in the house but I listen to my programmed music while doing it (songs I pick for the right beat) so I am going at an average of 3mph or higher and haven't tripped or bumped into any walls so far, haha. In my house, the kitchen, dining room and living room are all in one big room so that's where I do my walking, around the island in the kitchen, through the dining room and living room, around the island where the little fireplace is, down the hall, back through the dining room, down the hall from my room and back out into the kitchen. Every 10 minutes I switch directions (I know, hard for you  to see that). Soon it will be better for walking outside again but I don't know if I will do that regularly, loose dogs, coyotes, and bobcats, ya know. I am still recovering from my heart surgery last New Year's Eve (quadruple by-pass). My chest still hurts at times but has healed up so that the scars are not too garish, and my leg where they took out the vein to do the by-pass work on my heart is still not back to normal, I get a little sting of pain sometimes. It's been over 8 months but they say it could take a year to be back to normal again. Some days I still feel really tired but I'm coping. Things could be worse, I always say. Okay, hope you're all having a good weekend. See you soon! Take care.

Progress as of today: 30.8 lbs lost so far, only -0.4 lbs to go!

biscottibody59 on 09/09/2013:
That's a brutal surgery--to me any surgery where you have to be under a gen'l anesthetic is brutal.

I wonder if you're familiar with Dr Esselstyn and his book "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease." The reviews on amazon are worth reading. Also his website is heartattackproof.com. I started a diary here awhile ago to kind of focus on plant-based eating and disease. I haven't added to it recently, but it's ModerationKills, in case you're interested.

Good going with the exercise--you've gotta do what works!

I didn't have a heart attack, but with my sleep apnea diagnosis and heart rhythm issues plus menopause and "stuff," I found myself gunshy for the first time ever with exercise about 3 or 4 years ago. I'm not back to where I'd like to be at all. But I'm not giving up just yet:-)

Keep up the good work soonie!

Weight: 160.0

Hooray! I've reached my goal here but am going forward (or downward) to however low I can get. The 140's would be great! I'm happy now and hope to get into the 150's tomorrow. So far in my quest, the lowest I have been is 160.2 and then went back up, so at least I have passed that one. I kept telling myself "at least, I haven't gotten all the way back up to 165 again, so I'm doing well" The 150's have just been so elusive for me. I don't see any "cheats" in the near future, nothing coming up where I have to eat out, so I should be comfortably into the 150's later this week. Let's hope I can stay there for awhile. It would be so disappointing to go back up into the 160's! But it's not just about the weight, right? Haha! Hope you're all doing well. Take care. Soonie, out!

Well, okay, it took me this long just to lose a couple of pounds but I'll take it. A few weeks ago I was 160.2 for about 5 minutes and then went back up. But I look at it like I haven't gone back up to 165 again so I count that as progress. Such as it is. I'm still doing my walking in the house, it's too hot and humid outside and I refuse to get up at 5am. I do 40 minutes 4 or 5 times a week (that reminds me, I need to do my arm exercises for today) Fortunately, I have a big enough area through my kitchen, hall, dining room and living room to do this and so far I haven't bumped into any walls or tripped over furniture. I do 10 minutes and then reverse the direction I was going and do another 10 minutes and so on and so forth. Anyway, it's working for me. I know I could do better with that and with my diet but so far I haven't done that. Some days are better than others and then, some days are REALLY bad. Baby steps. So that's it for me. I really should get on here more often but frankly, I am spending too much time on HGTV lately and reading books from the library. I have no shame. Take care, all, and happy dieting!
