Okay, once again, I didn't get to cleaning my bedroom and bathroom. I started on the taxes instead, spent all afternoon on them and finally finished in the evening. State and Federal, DAMN TAXES!! Why can't they make it easier?? I looked on the IRS.gov website and have you seen how many forms there are now?! It's ridiculous! Fortunately ours isn't too difficult. But there wasn't enough medical this year to even be able to count it as I usually do. But that's a good thing, right? So far this year it looks like there will be plenty of medical to pay since I have crappy health insurance. That's one of my goals, to lose the weight and get healthier so I can get better insurance. But they just won't ignore the fact that I'm old and have diabetes and high blood pressure. Once it's on your record you can't get it off. So far I still don't take any meds for the diabetes (I have in the past) and it's sort of under control. I know the diet and exercise will help this. Anyway, where was I? Oh, voting today. Heck, I don't even know if I'm registered. That's another thing, if they made it less difficult to understand, maybe more people would get out and vote. I'll check on it anyway. Go, Hillary! *and Bill* Okay, I just did 50 minutes on my treadmill. Got up at 6:30am after still being awake at midnight. Tired? Yep! It's very cold this morning, about 30 degrees F. I hate the cold, that's why I moved here. It's not supposed to get this cold, darnit! But it's supposed to warm up the next few days to the mid 70's. Goody! While I was not sleeping last night *humph* I was thinking maybe I should quit the DD. You know, it will be 8 years that I've been a member here in April!! And look how far I've come! HardeeHarHar! But here I am, still here. Pouring my heart out. So embarrassing! Good days and bad. Boy, yesterday was really bad. After seeing the eye doc (my eyes are all good, thank goodness) I stopped in at McD's for brekky, even after I'd already had oatmeal before I left home, heh. Yummy! And I stopped at Walgreen's for nice junk food too. It was gloomy and raining so a good day for junk food. Not a good day! Anyway....Have a good one, okay?

You know, I was just thinking the other day (while pondering another day spent eating too much and doing too little) that you and biscottibody are my heroes 'cause you just don't give up. You may look at it as failure but I look at it as determination.

I think DD provides more than just weight loss support. It is simply an online life diary. We write about everything in them and even if not about food at all, they are good for writing about our experiences and getting feedback. I love this site and I hope you don't leave! I agree with BTC!

heyhey.....I've been trying to lose weight for several years, just not publicly on a diary forum...what's the difference, except for you can see that you aren't the ONLY one out there with struggles in weight... you have a meer 24 pounds to go...I have 70 some... I like our ballot system....vote by mail only....they send you the ballot and you mail it back N/C... Hang in there! stop worrying about age & hit that goal!

Okay, new weight (well, not new, I've been there before many times, heh) What happened?? I need to regroup and start again, only this time, I will do better. Of course, I've been constipated for 2 days, that could be the culprit. Yuck, sorry. And I did have some bad times and still not counting calories or points, or exercising religiously (only 3 times last week). So let's hope for a better week. No more doctors for awhile at least. I went early this morning for my eye exam, haven't been there since '05 and I'm supposed to go every year since I'm diabetic. Time just flew by. But he said all is good, just early cataracts in both eyes which he says is normal for someone "my age". I still should have years yet before I have to deal with that, which almost all of us will at some point. Anyway, it's raining here, the sky is gray, the temperature has dropped all morning, low 40's now, and I'm taking the day off. No exercise, eat whatever and I'll regroup tomorrow. It's just one of those days. Shut up! I promise to do better for the rest of the week, okay? So now I'm going to go clean my bedroom and bathroom which is badly overdue. First I will put on some loud music, that seems to help me get going. Hope you're having a nice day.

Thanks for reminding me - I need to go to the eye doctor myself! Now that we're in a new year I've got flex benefits I can use again! (Hopefully I'll get a similar report, although that's never happened before, so I can't imagine my eyes have quit getting worse!)

Happy Sunday morning to you all! Tomorrow is weighday for me and I'm not sure I have done well enough to have any loss. Some of the time I've been really good and then, sometimes, not so good. But I have improved over last week, I think. I didn't eat much at the memorial service last night (it was at the daughter's house and they served LOTS of food, including dessert) but I did indulge in a small slice of the coffee cake. It was a very nice service. Our queen (Red Hat Lady groups each have a queen) said a few nice things about her and had some pictures that were taken of her at some of our functions. It was very relaxed and no one cried. She had suffered a very long time. The house was crowded with family, friends and neighbors. Oh, and I didn't eat anything when I got home except a few pretzels that I grabbed from the DH. I was busy with #3 son doing computer things since he is not here often to help me with problems. Then I went to bed to read some and then sleep. I'm currently reading the old Oprah Book club book "The Pillars of the Earth". It's almost 1000 pages, I like long stories. Don't know if I can finish it before it's due back at the library but I will keep it anyway and pay the late fee if I have to. It's really good, 12th century England. I love those kinds of stories. Anyway, today I will be very good since I'd like to see a loss tomorrow, if only one pound. I got up early again and have finished 45 minutes on my treadmill, lots of incline. My left leg from hip to knee are still hurting me but what can you do? I need to exercise. Maybe this will make it better in time. If not, next time I see the doc I will ask him about it. It's cloudy and we're expecting rain later today, a big change from yesterday. We don't get rain here very often. I think the sun shines here more days every year than even Florida. Okay, so you all take care and have a great Sunday. Enjoy the Superbowl. I don't have a favorite but I love the commercials.

a small slice of cake doesn't ruin a diet...a heaping mound of cake does. a small soda doesn't ruin a diet...multiple cans do. It's all about moderation, which for some of us including myself, find very difficult. Ways I work to help myself be able to eat and be satisfied is by eating tons of vegetables. Sometimes, instead of a pasta dish, I will serve food over a bowl of sliced thin cut string beans. The canned ones tend to be really nice and sweet.

My yoga instructor always say you can work through discomfort or soreness but not pain. Make sure that if you're in pain you take a step back, if it's just soreness you'll be fine! congrats and good luck tomorrow. oh, and if you like long stories, try my favorite book A Thousand Years of Solitude, from Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Beautiful book.

I was really disappointed in the commercials on the S.B. last night. I liked the one with the horse and dalmation...most of the others left me thinking "did they even LOOK at those before they put them on the air?".

Thank you for all your comments and encouragement. I made it through the upper endoscopy Thursday and they said everything was fine. Good news. And if you ever have to have this procedure done, don't worry, it's a piece of cake. They inject your IV with this drug that makes you feel reeeeally relaxed and the next thing you know, you're waking up. Same with the colonoscopy. And the stuff you have to drink before that one is not that bad, really. So just wanted you to know. Of course, I was starving afterward. We got home about 4pm and I hadn't eaten all day so first I ate some chicken with rice soup to see how that went and then I ate a few more things later. Can't remember what. But I probably made up for the lost calories the rest of the day. Friday was pretty good. I played Pinochle all afternoon with 3 other Red Hat Ladies from my group. We try to play every week and we just have a ball. I love playing cards! And we do no eating the whole time, no snacks or anything. So that's a good thing, right? And it's such fun. So anyway, my eating hasn't been perfect but not too bad. No exercise for the last 3 days but I did get up at 7 this morning and walked on my treadmill for 45 minutes. Feels good except my left leg hurts some. I don't know if I have arthritis in my left hip or what, that's my guess. Today I need to get some house cleaning done and this evening I'm going to a memorial service for one of our Red Hat Ladies who passed away last Saturday. We're all supposed to dress in our fanciest purple outfits and biggest red hats. Not the normal dress for such a thing but that's what we do. She was such a sweet, soft-spoken lady and we will miss her. She had cancer for a long time. Anyway....I hope you're all doing well. It's supposed to be a really nice day here, sunny and warm. I hit the great magic number this year to where the Doc suggests getting those tests done....Bad enough to have a complete physical every year, now some more pokin'& proddin'... must tell myself everytime- PREVENTION is the best medicine... just this year, when that time comes around...plan is to be A LOT lighter and she won't have to say.....hhmm! weight's not so good!

Glad to hear that your tests came back fine....

Soak in some of that sunshine for me please.....Snowed 4 inches here so far today and more coming (actually hasn't stopped all day)....

Okay, yesterday's dinner plan was a bust! Buffet at Pizza Hut = trying to eat my money's worth along with the other 3 people with me. And even though I only ate 2 small slices of pizza (the sausage one, eek) and 2 plates of salad, the other couple with us thought I had eaten so little and was so good. But I knew I had done badly. Then there were snacks out while we played cards and, of course, I had to sample the candy (only ate a couple small pieces) and we broke out my low-calorie lemon cream pie later on (I just had a small slice, of course) The pie wasn't that good but not bad for diet food. And we brought the other half of it back home with us, they wouldn't accept it, maybe they didn't like it so much. Oh, well, it's basically FF pudding and jello and LF yogurt so I can eat it a little at a time. If anyone wants the recipe, let me know. I found it on Dottisweightlosszone.com So anyway let's hope today is a better day. Tomorrow is the endoscopy so I won't be eating anything for the first half of the day, until after we get home about 4:00. I changed my mind about going with the DH to the bowling alley to watch so I will just sleep in and he can come and get me to take me for the test after he bowls. I would drive myself but they don't want you to do that after having anesthetic. Okay, today I am going out shopping. I'd like to find a long sleeve purple top to wear to the Red Hat Lady function next Friday at the casino. Wish me luck on that. Purple clothes are so hard to find. BTW, for those who don't know, Red Hat Ladies wear purple clothes and red hats. Anyway it's a big bash for the celebration of the group's birthday. There are vendors selling all kinds of Red Hat Lady items, jewelry, clothes, anything you can think of (I love to shop!) and entertainment with a nice lunch. So it will be fun. Mom and I may gamble some afterward too. Of course! Anyway I hope you're all doing well. Thanks for all the comments, I don't deserve them since I never get here to comment anymore. The pie sounds good to me - maybe I will look up the recipe. I'd have to find vegetarian jello, though - I'm guessing it's lemon jello?

I think you did pretty well at Pizza Hut, for someone who was trying to get her money's worth! I know how that is, and it's worse when everyone else is trying to do it too! And those salads at Pizza Hut can be kind of fattening. Still, I agree with your friends - you were good!

Hope the endoscopy goes well! And the gambling, hehe!

Good morning! So far I did 40 minutes on the treadmill with some small hills. So I'm off to a good start. I had to eat a banana right afterward because I could feel my blood sugar drop. Usually when I exercise first thing in the morning, I don't eat breakfast first. Then I had to shower so I figured I needed to eat something or I would collapse in the shower, heh. My knees and hips hurt the whole time I walked but I persevered. I didn't get any exercise in yesterday. I had planned on doing it about 5 in the afternoon but I made spaghetti and meatballs and garlic toast for the DH for dinner and I just couldn't resist. So I ate some of that and then I said the heck with it, I was bad and now I don't want to exercise. So I didn't. And I was totally mad at myself for doing that. But it's over and today is a new day. Oh, I had gone shopping at Super WalMart yesterday and resisted buying any junk food, even the diet desserts and donuts, also resisted the urge to stop at the Wendy's they so conveniently have in front of the WalMart, but then when I got home I was so hungry I ate too much! Oh, well, at least I avoided the really bad stuff. Baby steps. We're going to play cards at a friend's house tonight and we're going to Pizza Hut for dinner first. Yikes! I will try to keep control and eat the salad bar. Maybe one slice of pizza. And I will eat no snacks while we're playing cards. I made a nice low-fat, low-calorie pie for dessert. So wish me luck. And strength. Have a good one and I'll see you tomorrow sometime. I'll probably be sleeping in since we usually play cards until pretty late.

Weigh day! I know, I didn't go down much but I really didn't get started until Thursday and I know I went up before I started going down. So I'm happy with it. I'm still not counting points or calories and I only exercised on Thursday and yesterday, but I've been really busy so I guess that counts too. I will try now to get that exercise in every day, at least some. I've only been doing half an hour on the treadmill and not going very fast but yesterday I did 20 minutes of it on a 3 or 4 incline. I plan to push myself a little harder each day. I want to be thin by summer and my 2 sons and daughter-in-law are coming to visit us in September (and she's losing weight too, doing so well) and then in November we go to Maui again. I so want to be thin by then! Or at least a lot thinner than I am now. To me, 140 would be really thin. So that's my goal. That's my DIL's goal too. She's heavier than I am but she's doing so well so far that it really inspires me. Anyway.... I go on Thursday for that upper endoscopy and I will have to not eat from 3am, no drink after 8am, and the test isn't until 2:30, so I will be very hungry by the time I get home. At least maybe that will help the weight loss as long as I don't go crazy with eating when I get home. We will go bowling that morning but I won't bowl because I don't want my blood sugar to go too low since I won't be eating anything. I'll just watch them bowl. So hard for me, I love the bowling. Then I guess DH will have to get something for him for lunch before taking me for the test. It will be a hard day for me. I'm not worried about the test, that's the easy part, I've had it before. But the starving part--not so easy. I've been feeling pretty good although a couple of days last week I had the stomach pain but the last few days I have been good. I think maybe those pills he gave me are making me hungrier. My stomach growls about 2 hours after I eat and I feel very hungry. But I try to keep busy and not think about it. Okay, that's it. I still haven't been in here to read entries. I feel so out of the loop. I hope you're all doing great. Have a nice Monday!

Last time I had to fast - I forgot and had to try again the next day! I hope you do better. You should be able to get to 140 by summer just be very mindful of what you eat and get in that exercise. You have good things to inspire you to stick with it.

Okay, I put in yesterday morning's weight, I didn't weigh today. Anyway, I am just recording the weight on Mondays. So....I'm off in a few minutes for the brow waxing thing, also the upper lip, which I hate. Ouch! My eating is not so good. We had friends over to play cards yesterday and I made dinner, a nice chili that was low-fat but I also made pineapple upside-down cake for dessert. I only ate a small piece last night but also ate a good-sized piece this morning after eating breakfast! Groan! Also there are some snack things left over I need to avoid. And there has been no exercise except housecleaning. Hope you're all doing well, gotta run!

sounds like great chili! dont beat yourself too much, it sounds like you did pretty good. so what if you ate some cake this morning, finish the rest of the day out just the way you want to. avoid the other snack by staying busy (or exercising!) or giving them away? good luck!!

mmm, pineapple cake. you can do other things with pineapple...pineapple and cottage cheese with loads of cinnamon. that would do it for me.

Well, thank you all for your concern. I'm overwhelmed! So, went to the doc Wednesday and, of course, he rescheduled the upper endoscopy for Jan. 31. Also gave me some "free" medication to help out in the meantime. I tried the first one yesterday morning and I'm feeling lots better. It's called Aciphex, in case anyone is interested. I think I took that one for a short time a long time ago. I also had taken Nexium for a few years too. So the stomach has given me problems for years, off and on. I bowled yesterday just fine and also played pinochle with my Red Hat Lady friends in the afternoon. No problems. Oh, except I did eat too many brownies yesterday. I had to bring the snack for the bowling gang and I made some yummy brownies with walnuts and chocolate chips. I only ate one small one at the bowling alley but there were some left over so I took them for the girls at pinochle but they didn't eat them all either so I ended up eating 3 of them on the way home, I was so hungry. Not good. I mean, they were good, I wasn't. I should have given them to someone at the bowling alley and avoided all that. Next time, heh. Anyway, the weight is just going up a tad, then down a tad right now but, then, I'm not exercising or really eating as well as I should be. I have Bunco group tomorrow and I haven't played for the past 3 months so I will be showering, washing my hair and primping all morning for that and then playing all afternoon. So no exercise tomorrow unless I get a burr up my butt when I get home (not likely), maybe Sunday. And then, Monday. I must get back at a regular plan! I'm getting nowhere right now. Okay, I hope you're all doing fantastic. See you soon.

Well, here it is, days since I made another entry. I'm so lazy. Anyway, I had to cancel my eye appointment because I have developed pain in my mid-abdominal area. Yeah, right where it would have showed if they had done my upper endoscopy as I had planned. So now everything is postponed (card playing, hair color, brow wax, eye exam) until I find out what is going on. I feel okay in the morning but as the day goes on, the pain starts up and gradually gets worse. I had thought at first that I pulled a muscle last Friday when doing ab crunches but I think it's much worse than that. Anyway I finally called the doc this afternoon and will see him at 4:15 tomorrow. 2008 is not starting out well for me. I hate this. At least I am not eating that much and the weight was 163.6 yesterday morning. No exercise though. Okay, I'm having a great big hot flash right now so must remove my sweater. Don't forget to watch American Idol tonight. Have a good one!
