Okay, one more day to weigh day! It can't be good. I did go to the gym yesterday even though I fought it like h***. At 10am I was lying on my bed, I felt so tired. But at 11, I got up and went. Had a good workout too. An hour and a half again. Now today....Bowled this morning with the DH, he beat me all 3 games! Then we went to the Village Inn and split an order of pancakes and drank hot tea, even though we'd already had brekky at home. Did I mention they have the best pancakes?! Then we stopped at Mom's to drop off her Mother's Day present. Called first and woke her up. She sleeps a lot with this infection she has. Still not feeling well. I kinda have a sinus thing going on right now too. Headache, congestion, just blah. But I will drag myself to bowling in the morning and then the gym. I don't even want to think of it right now though! So bowling was my only exercise today. And the eating isn't good today either. Blah!

Well, I hope you all have a good week. Happy Monday to you all! That's all!

Progress as of today: 7.6 lbs lost so far, only 23.4 lbs to go!

smiley2 on 05/13/2007:
Hi there! I believe that as long as we keep on exercising we are winning the battle half way...even if our eating seems going off the rails. We wont lose that much weight, but we will maintain. That pancackes sounds delic! Hope you have a good week! Wx

Good morning! Yesterday---I don't want to talk about it! I just can't seem to string 2 good days together so far. I'm going to the gym later this morning and do a good workout even though I really don't want to. I'm feeling kind of down, no wonder, after yesterday's fiasco. So I need some of those good endorphins. It's a beautiful day here, probably going up to 100 degrees again. I'm not ready for all that heat. At least some of my summer clothes fit but I'd like to wear skimpier clothes around the house to be more comfortable. Not happening in this body though. Thank goodness for air conditioning!

Took Mom to the doc Thursday and he just prescribed an anti-biotic for her. She still wasn't feeling better yesterday so we won't be going out for Mother's Day with her. And DH doesn't take me out or get me anything, he says I'm not his mother. Boohoo! Things are not going well with us lately either but I won't bore you with that. Okay, going to have brekky now. Then the gym. Have a great weekend!

Progress as of today: 7.6 lbs lost so far, only 23.4 lbs to go!

halley on 05/12/2007:
I'm sure that working out will make you fell better. Sorry to hear that things aren't going so well with DH. Stress can really affect your body, makingyou hold onto fat - so get rid of the stress at the gym.

Maria7 on 05/12/2007:
Hey, Soonie! Hope you have a good day today! Good for you on doing your workout...just don't overdo! Hope your Mom is soon feeling much better!

greengirl on 05/13/2007:
Keep an eye on your mum. She's been feeling off for a while now, hasnt she?? And tell DH he's a meanie for not taking you out!!! I'm sure you will manage to string some good days together. You know you can do it!!!

Just a quick one today. It's afternoon here already. Had bowling this morning with the gang. Had fun. Yesterday was good. Acupuncture in the morning, then the gym, where I worked out for an hour and a half, including 2 miles on the track. I tried something new---the stair stepper, only did 2 minutes slooowly on that, I think that may strengthen my knees, I liked it. I'm still sore today, especially with the bowling. My eating yesterday was good, 730 calories by dinner time, then who knows. Sis and BIL took us out to a BBQ place they've been raving about. It was so-so, I had pulled pork sandwich with beans and potato salad and some fries we all shared. I only ate half the sandwich (the smaller half, lol), half the beans and potato salad, so maybe not doing so bad for the diet. I had to eat some anyway since they wanted us to like it. I found I don't especially care for smoked meat but the BBQ sauce was good. I need to go now, to take my Mom to the doc. She's had this chest cold for almost 2 weeks now. So I'll see you tomorrow. I think that about covers it from here. Hope you had a good day!

liza36 on 05/11/2007:
Glad you enjoyed the stair stepper. Those things are a huge challenge for me, and I get tired easily. But it's a good thing to work up to.

I wish I could join a gym and use some of the weird and wonderful machines but the only local ones are very masculine affairs and the ones in town are out of my price range so I have to make do with my treadmill and bike!! Take it easy and have a great weekend :o)

Okay, yesterday was good and bad. At least I had the exercise in first thing in the morning. I was doing well, ate brekky, went to Target and Sear's, and then thought, well, Mimi's Cafe is right across from Sear's so I'll go there and get the chopped cobb salad (no bleu cheese, no avacado) and take it home and eat just half of it, so I had them split it into 2 boxes. Of course the muffin comes with it so what the heck. I got home, ate 1/2 of half of the salad with half the dressing and half the low-fat blueberry muffin (the bigger half, lol) Got on calorieking.com and checked the calories, which brought me up to over 900 for the day already!! Still doing okay. Then I got the hungries in the middle of Oprah so went and ate the rest of my half of the salad, gave DH the other whole half for dinner (those salads are incredibly huge!) and was still hungry (well, not really hungry, just the munchies) so I ate more stuff, not good stuff either. Lost track of the calories, don't know how many I ended up with. So not a great day. But the scale said I was down 2 tenths from yesterday so all is okay, lol. (weight now is 161.8, not official until Monday) So I'm hoping for a better day today.

First up is acupuncture treatment at 9. Then I'm going to the gym for another workout. I'll tell you, my legs are killing me from the other day, especially the fronts of my thighs. That's a good thing, right? Everything else isn't too bad. It just hurts when I stand up or sit down.

Well, you all have a real fine day. It's getting hot here today, again up to about 91 degrees, maybe reaching 100 on Friday. But it's beautiful out right now (8am) Take care and I'll see you later.

Progress as of today: 7.6 lbs lost so far, only 23.4 lbs to go!

maria777 on 05/09/2007:
You blueberry muffin sounds SOOOOOO good! Good for you on getting your exercise already done!!! Hope you have a FANTASTIC day!

halley on 05/09/2007:
I love Mimi's but I never go there - the salads are HUGE. I've always thought that soreness feels good - it feels like progress!

hollybelle on 05/10/2007:
Sounds like you are in the work out mode! As long as your legs don't hurt so much that you have to be assisted to sit or stand you are OK. Take it a little at a time - keep them stretched and take warm bath/showers to loosen them up and the soreness will work itself out. Also - don't stop now or you have to go through the "sore stage" all over again! Have a good one!

Goooood morning!! Things are going well here! I just finished doing 2 miles on the treadmill in 38:40 and some stretches. I know, a pretty slow time but I'm working on it. And I'm knackered! I need to build up my stamina again. Yesterday I had 1175 calories, stuck with the plan and worked out for a little more than an hour at the gym. That was after bowling 4 games. I did well and made the first cut after the first 3 games but didn't do as well the 4th game so was knocked out. I was the only woman out of the 3 of us that made the first cut. The rest are all men. I was pretty tired, that 4th game was bowled in about 10 minutes. But I ate my serving of almonds, drank some water and headed into the gym. I walked 1 1/2 miles and did some weights. Funny thing happened---when I was about to get on the ab machine, this guy that I used to see all the time when I used to go there and we never spoke, came over and said "Where've you been all these months?" And we talked for about 5 minutes! In fact I used to kind of make fun of his outfit to the DH, he always wears brightly colored tights and little shorts. I know, I'm bad. Anyway, I had a good day. I did feel slightly nauseous after working out though, maybe I needed lunch. It was 1pm by the time I was finished.

So that was my day, a pretty good one if I do say so myself. Now to just keep it up. Today will be more difficult because I won't be out running around as much, although I am going to Target and Sear's. So that should get me through until lunch, lol. Okay, you all have a great Tuesday! Is it May already?! Haha! I'm heading for the shower. Soonie---out!

maria777 on 05/08/2007:
Wow, you get lots of exercise bowling even without doing the walking...so really, you get LOTS of exercise!!! Did you eat some breaky before bowling this morning before you went bowling? If not, no wonder you were hungry by 1 pm! Hope you have a good (and restful) evening!

Happy Monday, everyone! Soonie is back! Here we are with a new day one! Weight is up some but it could have been worse. It's a good thing I was very busy the last couple of weeks. So, this morning, as planned---bowling. Then I'm going to the gym. Yes, I will. I hope I'm not too tired from the bowling. If I bowl good the first 3 games, I get to bowl another, and if that's good enough, another. So I could be very tired afterward. Although, I've never made it to the 5th game before. I don't plan on doing much at the gym, just some walking and a few weights for my arms and legs, especially the legs. They have become so weak since I stopped exercising. If I bend down all the way, bending my knees, I can't lift myself up again without holding on to something, lol. Maybe too much weight in the trunk, right? So I'm going to work on that.

Okay, here's to a great new start. My banana-nut Weight Control oatmeal and green tea are all ready to eat now so I'm going to start off with that. I bought all the foods I need at the store yesterday so I'm all prepared. Got a packet of almonds to eat before I exercise at the gym and my bottle of water. Well, here goes. I hope you all have a great day. Take care!

Progress as of today: 7.6 lbs lost so far, only 23.4 lbs to go!

Well, we only stayed an hour and a half at the picnic yesterday. It was kind of boring, as far as picnics go, although the kids looked like they were having fun. They had a couple of those air-filled jumping-around-in things and a pinata. I didn't eat much, I didn't feel well, but I made up for that at dinner. Didn't get on the scale this morning. Tomorrow....it all begins again. I'm going to the store later for some salad things and my LS instant flavored oatmeal. I was thinking of a good menu for all my meals last night in bed. I think if I can stick to the same meals every day for a week or so, I can get a good start. And I'm going to try to go without bread. That's a hard one for me. So oatmeal and fruit for brekky, veggies and yogurt for lunch and chicken on a salad and some fruit for dinner. Maybe some nuts for snacks or something. How does that sound. I'll stick to that until it drives me nuts, lol. And tomorrow's plan for exercise---bowling and then the gym for a light workout. And of course, walking for at least half an hour. My body aches so much lately I'm wondering if it's because I used to exercise and haven't for weeks now. I really need it too! So that's the plan so far.

Okay, I'm heading out to McD's for my last junky brekky. I like to go through the drive-thru and bring it home and eat it while I watch some things I taped this week on TV. That habit will be hard to break. Although lately I've only had McD's brekky a couple of times. I know, it's baaaad! But yummy. Like I said---tomorrow! The old Soonie will be back! Okay, I gotta go check to see what Adam's "secret ingredient" is for weightloss. You all have a great day!

Progress as of today: 9.2 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

borntocry on 05/06/2007:
Hi Soonie! I just read your entry from yesterday and I must say, I agree with your husband - you do have very nice legs. I was jealous when I saw them in that picture of you dressed up in your purple outfit for the Red Hat Ladies thing. I feel like my calves are the same girth as my thighs! They're like tree trunks. I can't wear mid-length skirts or dresses, at all. And that's not just me saying that - I have tried them on in front of other people and they always agree!

Anyway, good luck with your plan. I find it always helps to go stock up on your favourite healthy foods which you only really have when you're dieting, hehe. For some reason, even if I really like something, if it's low-fat or low-calorie, I won't have it when I'm off my diet because I feel like I need to take advantage of being off my diet to cram in all the junk food which I wouldn't let myself have otherwise.

As for your body aching from going without exercise, I actually think there may be some truth to that. Last year when I was struggling with sore knees, I noticed that they actually felt worse the longer I went without exercise. They seemed to hurt less on the days I exercised. Weird, huh? I think maybe the joints get stiff from inactivity or something. So anyway, have fun at the gym! I am dying to find out Adam's secret weight-loss ingredient too...

maria777 on 05/06/2007:
I had a no-bread day yesterday...I didn't really miss it, but I know I would if it was every day! As for McD's...I like their soft serve cones of ice cream! Looks like you've really got a good plan for starting tomorrow! As for exercise, I haven't been back into mine, either, since the accident...but...I figure a little at a time...til I get back to where I was...as for nuts that you mentioned in your entry...I LOVE NUTS!!! Hope you have a wonderful day, Soonie!

borntocry on 05/06/2007:
Hi again Soonie! Thanks for your comment. Yeah, Irish oatmeal is the same thing as steel cut. And you're right, the taste is different too! It seems kind of bland, don't you think? I can't understand how some people seem to prefer it. The description (chewy, nutty) makes it sound really good so I assumed it would be just like regular/instant oatmeal, only heartier and better, but that was not the case at all! Oh well, I have another 10 servings left in the box so I will probably give it another try some time. Apparently it can be toasted/ground first and that makes it turn out differently, so we'll see...

As I was doing my usual morning things this morning, brushing my teeth, washing my face, that kind of thing, I remembered what I had said yesterday about being 58 years old. I was so negative! So here's some good things about me that I thought about---I have pretty good teeth for my age, still all mine, I have lots of perseverence, and even though I fall off the wagon every now and then, I've never given up, I did bowl a perfect game back in '99, I try to be kind to all people, I can still function pretty well, walk, talk, drive, and I do have good legs if I do say so myself (well, the DH agrees with me there, lol) Oh, and no more TOM, heh. So 58 isn't as bad as it could be, I guess.

I saw 165 on the scale this morning (official weigh day is Monday) and I know I'm retaining water big time. Today I will try to do better with the eating. We have a picnic to go to and I will do the best I can. Sis and BIL are going with us, it's his work picnic, he works at a prison here (it's not at the prison though, heh) Anyway, we always have a good time with them. They are leaving tomorrow for Duke University in North Carolina where he consults with doctors there about his brain tumor and getting a replacement part for the part of his scull they removed months ago because he had a bad infection there from previous surgery. My poor little BIL has been through hell but he has amazing courage and he's a great role model for the rest of us. This has been going on for about 13 years now and he never gets depressed, or at least, he doesn't show it, and never complains. He has a t-shirt that says "I have a brain tumor, what's your excuse?" He's such a great guy and we've almost lost him a couple of times and we thank the good Lord that he's still with us, even though we know the time is limited.

So that's it for me today. I'm planning on bowling for Monday morning and then going on for some exercise at the gym, which is near the bowling alley. I'll try not to wear myself out on the first day. I will get back to counting calories and eating healthy then too. Oh, and don't forget the water, I have been drinking some but not nearly as much as I need to. Well, that's the plan. Hope you're all having a good weekend so far. It's going to 79 today, sunny but clouding up later and a chance of rain. We sure need it here, we're going into fire hazard time of the year right now. Y'all have a good one! Is it May already?! Where has the time gone?! Another sign of old age, lol.

Progress as of today: 9.2 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

CharlieAngel on 05/05/2007:
You are a role model for me. I hope that I can be as enthusiastic and committed to staying healthy as you. I will keep your BIL in my prayers. Thanks for your supportive comments. Have fun at the picnic.

Thank you for the birthday wishes! Here it is, this is what it's like to be 58 years old! My neck hurts (the acupuncturist says I need to have a new MRI done) 4 years ago I had an MRI on it and it showed a slightly herniated disc at C6 and C7, whatever that means. So maybe it's worse now. It hurts especially when I'm on the laptop, heh. My knees hurt and I never sleep through the night now. Getting old is not an easy thing but look at the alternative, at least I'm still here, lol. And if I'd lose some weight I know it would help things. Still not back on the wagon. Soon though.

Okay, I did go to the tattoo place near here the other day. They didn't have exactly what I wanted and I think I will check out some more places and not rush into it. I did like the idea of having it done on my birthday but I'm going to wait anyway. I don't know what I will be doing today, something fun though, certainly not dieting and exercising, lol. I'm sorry I'm such a bad example lately but I will get back to it soon, probably on Monday, naturally! Hope you have a great Friday! Take care of yourselves, my friends!

Progress as of today: 9.2 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

Hey there, Soonie, happy birthday!! I'm sorry you didn't find what you wanted at the tattoo place, but you can still treat yourself to a tattoo for your birthday even if it's a few days late.

As for what it's like to be 58 years old, you should see my husband - he's got a bad back, a screwed up ankle, and a bursitis in his heel which is so bad he can barely walk, and he's only 30!! So you see, you're only as old as you feel!

mcwoo40 on 05/04/2007:

Horn_Of_Plenty on 05/04/2007:
go you on possibly getting a tattoo! sounds like fun! happy birthday, Soonie! you should definitely go to the doctor to check about that disc. i work with someone that had to have back surgery to fix a herniated disc and he is recovering now. it caused him pain in his arms/legs.

Don't know if you saw my comment to your last entry, but again HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! Big Smile!

maria777 on 05/04/2007:
Thanks for your comment...I love reading your entries to your DD journal. I very much thank you for your encouragement. You are a very positive person and that's a good plan you have starting on Monday!!! Yes, it's SO easy to get back into the habit of not eating smart and regaining...I sure do know that...but it's really just a matter of 'changing habits' and getting back to eating smart...staying full...and eating smart...that's what I aim for now...I count calories and eat lowfat and eat what's the most filling for the least amount of cals...and it's working...I hope you have a very happy, wonderful weekend, Soonie! Happy Birthday again! Just had to included that, cause it's not quite Saturday yet, hehehe! Big Smile!
