IT'S OVER!! My Cinco de Mayo/Uno de Mayo is finally over! I've been thinking of it and planning for it since back in Sept. or Oct. I think. And I did most of the work and buying the supplies even though Mom was here and she did help some. We only charged them $5 each, not nearly enough to cover all the costs but we didn't care about that (usually when someone in the group throws one of these things in their home, they charge a small fee) So only 14 ladies showed up, a few cancelled at the last minute. Still a big group to take care of. I saw room for a lot of improvement but then I'm always very critical of myself. Of course, everyone said the nicest things, whether they were true or not who knows? But I know if I have it again next year, I can do a better job. Mom says leave her out next time, lol. Here's the menu---chicken enchiladas, cheese enchiladas, taquitos, refried beans, tortilla chips, salsa, guacamole, fruit salad, brownies, iced tea, margueritas, and Mexican beer.

So the scale said 163.2 this morning---at least it was down some and not up. I really worked my butt off the last couple of days! And the eating was terrible! I'm vegging today to rest up, didn't get up till almost 8 this morning, late for me. I'm thinking of going to this tattoo place near here and checking out a tattoo for my birthday, lol. I've always wanted one, just a small one, and now that I'm turning 58 Friday, I think it's time, it will perk me up maybe to do something crazy and spontaneous. What do you think? Then I may go shop around at the Goodwill store, haven't been there for awhile so they may have some new stuff. I need more shorts. I may find time before I leave to go through some of my clothes to take to donate. I have way too many things, ya know? Also need to go to Target, they have a few things on sale that I need. So just running around today, very slowly though, no rushing or stress. Probably stop somewhere for some lunch to take home to eat while I watch my soap later.

Okay, that's it! I'll get back on the wagon soon, no timeline just yet. I'm also thinking of starting back at the gym too. Hope you're all doing well. I'll try to get back here later to check up. Have a great day!

Progress as of today: 9.2 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

borntocry on 05/02/2007:
I have never been one for tattoos myself, but if you've always wanted one, go for it!! I wish I had the guts to do something like that - only in my case I think I would cut all my hair off!

Sounds like you laid on a great Uno/Cinco de Mayo spread for your friends. They must have loved it! I know I would have!

maria777 on 05/02/2007:
I love to shop at the thrift stores, too. I try to stay away from the malls and do a good job at it. Why pay more if you don't have to???

greengirl on 05/02/2007:
hey Soonie, I've had a tattoo for the last 20 years and am planning a second one. Go for it if you want one!!! I'll keep you up to date on mine when I have the new one :0)

noslot on 05/03/2007:
Go for it! If it makes you happy and will help you get back on track all the better. Make sure you let us know what you decide.

Happy birthday, Soonie!!! Big Smile!

Helleeeeww!! Well, I'm running around like a chicken with its head cut off, lol. So much to do. There have been so many things going on this month! We spent all day Saturday, going to Phoenix for the Body Worlds 3 exhibit (it was so-so), then we stopped at In and Out Burger for lunch (not as good as I'd heard), then again on the way home we stopped at Dairy Queen for dessert (oops) then we decided to go to the casino, gambled for 3 hours then ate at the buffet!! Didn't get home until almost 8pm. Then DH and I watched "The Interpretor", an okay movie. So a long day where I did absolutely no house cleaning. Sunday was bowling with the DH in the morning, we bowled 3 games and were finished before 10am. Gassed up the car, came home. He went to help #3 son move to another apartment, I went to the mall, Super WalMart and the grocery store, for Mom's birthday present (the mall) and more supplies for the Cinco de Mayo. Came home, ate lunch and Mom called. She's sick with a sore throat, headache, all that. Drove to Walgreen's for Nyquil, Benedryl, throat lozenges and Gatorade and on to her house. We have 19 ladies coming to my house for the Cinco de Mayo on Uno de Mayo (tomorrow) and I need her help!! Then I came home, showered, washed my hair, did a little laundry and had to get ready to go to Macayo's for a birthday bash we always have every year with the family---Mom's birthday tomorrow (of course she wasn't there), my birthday (Friday) and my Sis's birthday, which was on Saturday. So we always celebrate them together for dinner at Macayo's. Ate too much, of course! I didn't even get on the scale yet this morning so I will update that later, I guess, if I get up the nerve. Now today, more bowling (I refuse to miss my bowling) then I will be knocking myself out, making enchiladas for tomorrow and getting the house in shape. I hope Mom feels better but I'm afraid of pneumonia, she's had it before. Y'all want to come over and give me a hand with the luncheon tomorrow? Me, taking care of food for 19 other ladies!! Anyone got any Valium?! But I will persevere! I can do this, right?

Okay, must get ready for bowling, it's after 7am here. Forgot to mention, I lost again at the casino! Can we say "Gamblers Anonymous"? No more for a long time!! I hope you're all doing great. Hope to get here soon to check. Have a great Monday!

Edit 12:30pm---weight this morning was 164.2! Could have been worse, I guess. I am so far off the wagon I can't even see the taillights! I think after tomorrow's fiasco, I will just take a day off completely to rest and recuperate. Then get back as close to the wagon as I can get. Here's hoping! Probably won't get here tomorrow, busy, busy, busy!

Progress as of today: 9.2 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

greengirl on 04/30/2007:

I'm ba-a-ack! A little poorer but that's the way it always goes. I was winning pretty well the first day but lost it all the second day, lol. We had a nice time though. I weighed 161 the day we left (Monday) and was 164 yesterday. No official weighin until Monday. We split a lot of burgers and fries so there was considerable sodium involved in my diet. A good thing I don't drink though. Anyway, that's that! Now I just have to get through the "Uno de Mayo" thing on Tuesday and then get back to normal, whatever that is. I plan on starting back at the gym too, my muscles are non-existent. I still have the allergy thing, the cough, it's almost 4 weeks now.

Okay, today---another treatment at the accupuncturist for my sinuses and hot flashes, maybe my neck too. Then I need to pick up a few things at WalMart, then I need to get some more house cleaning done. Oh, and tomorrow, we're driving up to Phoenix with Sis and BIL to see the Body Worlds 3 thing at the science center and of course, lunch. If you haven't heard about Body Worlds 3, check out their website http://azscience.org. Also another website--http://thebreastcancersite.com/ If you go there and click on the pink square, they will donate a free mammogram to an underprivileged woman every day, or something like that. Check it out.

Well, I hope you're all doing great. I may get back here later to check up. I'm still not on the wagon yet but soon. Maintaining is better than nothing I guess. Have a wonderful day! P.S. Where the heck is Geevee? You are missed, girl!

Well, here it is, almost 10pm and I should be in bed. I'm getting up at 6am to get ready to leave for Vegas in the morning. Our plane leaves at 10:40am. So I won't be in here for a few days. Wish me luck. We may be seeing Penn and Teller while we're there too. They are at the Rio where we are staying, I think that's what Mom said. But mostly we will be gambling and watching TV together at night while doing lots of yakking, lol. We always have a great time. So be good and I'll see you later this week. Oh, and the scale said 162.4 this morning. Can we say "maintaining"? Went bowling with DH, Sis and BIL this morning so at least I did have some exercise. Okay, bending over this laptop is killing my neck so I'm going to bed now. And, greengirl, Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican celebration, although right now I can't recall just what it's for. See ya later, gaters!

Greetings, my DD friends!! Soooooo, I've been AWOL here lately. The month of April is not going so well for me. Ahem! I've been so busy with bowling, getting things for our Cinco de Mayo party, trying to make a funny t-shirt for my Bunco group this month (found I am not crafty, wasted time--and 2 t-shirts) and getting ready to leave Monday for Vegas! All that with the usual cleaning, fixing meals, shopping, you know the drill. I've been eating pretty much whatever I want. I feel so free, not counting calories, not exercising, but I know this will have to end because I can feel the weight ballooning up and up. Got on the scale this morning--164.2!! Not where I want to go! I just feel like after this is all over, I can get back to my routine. I know in the back of my mind that there will always be things to knock me off the wagon, I am so weak! But I'm not giving up, I CAN'T!!

So this morning I got up at 6, colored my hair because I couldn't think of any other time that I could fit it in and it desperately needed it, then showered, fed the cat, fed the birdies and here I am, it's 7:40, DH is still sleeping. I have the Bunco group today, we meet at 12:30. I will be riding with 2 other ladies. I need to get to the ATM later for some cash for Vegas. I need to try a trial run at making enchaladas later this afternoon so I will know how to make them for the Cinco de Mayo on May 1 (I've never made them before but a friend gave me her recipe)(I know, Uno de Mayo but our Red Hat Ladies group always meets on a Tuesday) so I have a busy day. Mom and I leave Monday morning for Vegas and come back on Wednesday, a short trip. Then I need to give my house a thorough cleaning before May 1. Can't have the Red Hat Ladies finding dirt or dust anywhere, lol. I think once that is over, I can rest and get back to normal.

Well, that's my life so far. I miss the DD. I've been sneaking in once in awhile to see how you all are doing. #3 son upgraded my laptop to a nicer, better one (he needed the money) and I love it. It's a Mac but it's pretty nice. Okay, must run now, things to do. Have a great weekend!

You have so many fun things to do!!! What is the significance of Cinco de Mayo??? Its not a date that rings any bells with us ignorant english people!! Is it a Mexican celebration or something?? You Red Hat Ladies certainly have a good time but you will be kicking yourself if you put more weight on so take a care!!!

GG on 04/22/2007:
ugh, you sound busy! you need to carve some time out for yourself, even if it is just 10 minutes, to sit in silence and not think about anything. i hope you find some time to do that because stress causes weight gain!

Good afternoon, DD-ers! Well, I'm not doing really well here, food eating is not the best and no real exercise, although I'm keeping pretty active and busy. We went bowling this morning, the DH, Sis, BIL and I. Bowled 3 games then went for late brekky at the Village Inn and I had pancakes, they have the best ones! I know, not good for me but I do have the SF syrup *smile* and I'd already had 2 slices of WW toast before we left home. And I ate without really being hungry. And I don't feel like exercising today, like a spoiled brat! Where's that going to get you, Soonie, huh?!!

Well, yesterday was a lot of fun! We drove down to Sierra Vista, me and 3 other ladies in one car, 3 ladies and one husband to drive in another car, about an hour's drive from here. We stopped half way at a McD's for lunch (I know, I had no say in the decision) and we all went in, wearing our red hats and our purple clothing. What a sight, huh?! One guy took our picture, lol. Then it was on to the Just Desserts activity. It was in a convention center of a Wyndam Hotel. We had a big room with lots of tables set up and lots a tiny desserts available to eat and a big hall where vendors had their Red Hat Lady items for sale, red hats, purple clothing, gaudy jewelery, shoes, scarves, net stockings, and lots of other stuff, all things the serious Red Hat Lady needs. And I bought too much again, lol. I didn't eat much because I find that if I eat much sweets it bothers my stomach and I didn't want that with another road trip home later. We left there and I didn't get back until after 5pm so had to go straight to our friend's house for dinner, hat hair and all! We had a very nice dinner there of chicken enchaladas (I skipped the dessert) and played a new card game until after 11pm, so late for the DH and I, we're early retirers so we're really dragging today. We had such fun playing cards with the 2 other couples that we usually bowl with on Thursdays. I hope we get to do that again soon.

So that's it for me. Maybe if I just start thinking I will lose the weight, it will happen automatically, lol. If only it were that easy. Isn't that what that new DVD thing says now, I can't for the life of me think of what it's called right now, sheesh. You all know what I mean. Anyway I'm going to watch TV bowling now so hope you're all doing well. See ya tomorrow!

Progress as of today: 9.2 lbs lost so far, only 21.8 lbs to go!

greengirl on 04/15/2007:
Sounds like you had a lot of fun at the Red Hat Lady event!! You should take a photo so we can see you all resplendent in your hats and purple dresses. As regards your weightloss struggle at this moment in time, I wish I had good advice for you but I think it is in your own hands (and mind). When you are ready to do it, you will do it again!!! Have a good week :)

maria777 on 04/15/2007:
Please post a photo! Sounds soooo interesting!

I did BK yesterday, so don't feel guilty about McD's...

Okay, I'm up! It's only 7:45am here and I have plenty of time to get ready to go. Remember, it's the "Just Desserts" thing with the Red Hat Ladies. Then this evening, dinner and cards with our bowling friends. Of course, by then, I will have severe "hat hair" from wearing my red hat all day! Just hope I don't have a headache by then. It's sunny here, not a cloud in the sky. I wish you all could be enjoying this kind of weather. Going up to the mid-80's today. I dread that long car ride but I'm not driving so that's a good thing anyway.

Does it seem like I'm avoiding yesterday? Well, it was not so good. I had KFC for lunch but I didn't eat dinner, well, okay, I ate 2 meatballs from the dinner I made for the DH, spaghetti and meatballs, and I only ate those because I had pills to take and you need to take them with some fat. Also ate a few pretzels later while watching "Blood Diamond". Great movie with some Leo DiCapprio too! He's always so good! So that was my Friday.

Okay, get out there and have a great Saturday! I'm sure most of you are well on your way. Hang in there and stay strong!!

(Counting Calories and Exercise)
Weight: 161.8

Hello, my name is Soonie and I'm a food-a-holic! Okay, I've lost that magical feeling of wanting to work my butt off, eat right and light, and lose weight. I am feeling better this morning than I was yesterday but still, I'm just not feeling that ambition. I had to go have more blood drawn this morning to check my cholesterol so I was up early. Then I went to the bank at the grocery store to deposit a check and the bank wasn't open yet. And I didn't feel like waiting around. I bought some bananas and a box of lemon WW cakes in the grocery store since I was already there.

It's cooler this morning here, down to 48 when I first got up, only going up to 73 today. We had a lot of wind yesterday and a little rain during the night. I know I should get a walk in today but, like I said, I just don't have it in me today. It may have something to do with tomorrow. I will be leaving early for a trip with the Red Hat Ladies down to Sierra Vista, about a 2 hour drive from here. The function is called "Just Desserts", how ironic. They serve all kinds of small desserts and sell lots of Red Hat Lady items----again. There are also door prizes and raffles. So that will take up most of my day and I can't eat many of the desserts since I am diabetic and trying to not eat the sweets. Then we were invited to one of our bowling buddy's house for dinner and card playing. So a very busy day tomorrow.

Okay, I hope you're all having a great day! I did get here to read some entries last night on my laptop while watching Raymond and Survivor. So many members now it's hard to comment on them all. I love reading about all your lives and how you're doing. Keep up the good work, everyone! I probably won't have time to get in here tomorrow so have a great weekend!

Come on, Soonie! Get on that treadmill for half an hour, or go out and buy some of your favourite healthy foods - that should inspire you! Don't give up the fight - you'll only regret it in a couple of days when your motivation returns! You know I'm right!

borntocry on 04/13/2007:
Hey there! Thanks for your comment. You had to mention Skyline - I am totally jonesing for it these days! I shall have to get my husband to plan a trip to Cincy this summer, or I think the withdrawal will kill me. I also wonder sometimes how much weight I would gain if I lived there, eating chili spaghetti every day, as I'm sure I would! And I agree, you have to have it with the cheese and crackers - the crackers are the best part!

Hope you have a good weekend! Big Smile!

Blah, blah, blah! That's how I've been feeling today! Just when I think things are going well, this happens. Yesterday was excellent. 974 calories, 30 minutes of exercise. To most of you this may not seem like "excellent" but for me, the way things have been going lately, it's excellent. Now today has been pure disaster! I won't even go into it, it's too disgusting! Do you ever have those days when your hair is a pain in the neck, you keep yanking your clothes around, you feel like a total slob and just totally uncomfortable?? Not to mention fat! Well, that was my day. Bowling was no fun and I just felt so uncomfortable! (Is that spelled right, it doesn't look right) Very low self-esteem, you could say. So what do I do? Anything you might guess is probably the truth, you all know me so well. Have you ever eaten so much you couldn't possibly take one more bite? Okay, that's enough, I can't bear to think about it. And no exercise except bowling. Well, tomorrow is another day, a better one, I hope. Hope you've had a good one. See you tomorrow.

11:20am. Okay, confession time again! I did well with the luncheon part but just HAD to try the brownies, just one. And I figured I wouldn't eat any of the birthday cake. Huh, they shamed me into eating a piece because you just HAVE to eat a piece of someone's birthday cake, it's tradition or something. And if this wasn't enough, I stopped at McD's for a small burger and fries on the way home!!! Then I ate some other things cause you know, the day was ruined anyway. YUCK! At least I didn't eat any dinner, just a half of ham sandwich and that was past 7pm so I didn't do the "no eating past 7pm" thing either. AND no exercise all day! Needless to say, I didn't jump on the scale this morning, lol. But we had a good time at the meeting. You're bound to have fun when 15-20 women over the age of 50 get together. I love that group, we all have so much in common, lol.

Okay, today I had the doc appointment at 8:30 this morning so no exercise before that. You know, it was that fun "special" exam we all love to hate. And we discussed the results of my blood work from last week. My A1C went from 6.8 to 6.4 and the doc was very pleased with that. But there was some mistake and the cholesterol wasn't checked!! I was so disappointed! So I go have more blood taken for that on Friday. Oh, forgot to mention, I still have that cough (I think it's allergies) but I forgot to mention it to her!! Can we say "senior moment"? And I forgot to ask her about getting off my other blood pressure med, although she probably wouldn't have gone for that since my blood pressure was 142/80 this morning. It seems like it's always up at the doc's because I think you're supposed to rest for 15 minutes before you check it and they check it right after walking you down the hallway to the little room. Anyway, I'm going to take my BP cuff in on Friday to get it compared to theirs since mine almost always has a low reading, like one teens over 70's. Also she wants a detailed list of all the herbal supplements I'm taking. I'm really anxious to get the cholesterol results since I had quit the Vytorin months ago.

Okay, I did take a walk after I got home. I walked down our dirt road and back in half an hour. I think we measured it once and it was 8 tenths of a mile one way, so I did 1.6 miles. That's all I did but at least it was something. I walked pretty fast, it was about 70 degrees, not a cloud in the sky and some breeze in my face. Very nice. I just didn't feel like facing the treadmill on such a nice day. So I promise the eating will be good today. I've had breakfast (230 calories) and I plan to eat lightly all day. I also have another treatment at the acupuncturist this afternoon. (#12, I'm ready to give up, my shoulder still hurts at times but I think I can live with it) So that's it for Soonie! I'm going to go try some of that Nice 'n'Easy root touch up on my hair and see how that goes. At least it should be easier than doing my whole head of hair. It's down past my shoulders now and I always dread having to color it. So I'll let you know how it turns out. Hope you're all having a great day too. As always, thanks so much for all the comments!

borntocry on 04/12/2007:
Naughty Soonie! 50 lashes with a wet noodle this time, I think! Not for the brownie and cake (I suppose it's true - you can't refuse someone's birthday cake!) but for the junk food afterwards. Did that really do you any good?

The walk must have been nice though - sounds like lovely weather! Maybe you can get in a few more of those before it gets too hot! (I'm guessing that's the problem where you live, not rain like over here or snow like many of the others seem to be dealing with!)
