Hey, sorry I haven't been here lately. Things are keeping me busy. Tuesday--Red Hat Lady Mardi Gras, Wednesday--I took myself to the casino (that could be a bad habit!) and today I've just been busy, had my 7th acupuncture treatment. My shoulder seems to be getting a little better and I know this will work. He told me to move it around more and not baby it. I haven't bowled for almost 4 weeks now. I'm having a new (well, really used) bowling ball drilled for me, lighter, 14 lb. instead of the 16 lb. one I was using for over 10 years. When it's ready, I will try it out a little. If that's still too heavy, I will go to a 12 pd. Anyway, sad to say I'm not using my little "vacation" to eat well and exercise. I've been very bad with both. So I will probably go up in weight again this week. I don't know, I just don't have that mentality this week. I know, I really need to try harder but I'm still going to be busy. Tomorrow I'm taking Mom shopping and then to Macayo's for lunch, that's where she wants to go and who am I to stop that?? Lol I'm just not going to worry about it. And then, Saturday, I have Bunco group so that takes up most of the day. Hey, maybe Sunday and Monday I will get in some exercise. Although, Monday I will be taking Mom for her colonoscopy around noon but I can get up early and fit it in in the morning. Then Tuesday I have another treatment on my shoulder. Still so busy. I know, that's no excuse, if I really wanted to fit it in, I could. So bad Soonie! One good thing though---my blood sugar levels are staying pretty good (I quit the Avandia awhile back) and my blood pressure is great (I cut one of the pills in half the last couple of weeks) the herbal supplements are helping my sinuses and it's really bad here right now, temps up to almost 90 and things are blooming, my hot flashes still aren't much better but I know that will take some time. Anyway, I'm still feeling great and I think it's because of the supplements. And not having to cook dinner everyday is great too, lol. I do miss the DH but not that much yet, lol. I'm loving my freedom!! Is it any wonder? I was married with a baby at the age of 16, then divorced at 18, married a second time at 19, married for 38 years with another 2 kids!! Man, I'm tired!! So when I'm on my own, I really enjoy myself. Although I don't think I'd want it permanently. I'm sure by the time Tuesday is here, I will be glad to have him back.

Okay, that's it from Soonieland! Oh, #3 son got me a used laptop for $220 so as soon as he puts in the part so I can get wireless internet, I will be able to get in here to read while I watch my TV shows in the evening. I'm really looking forward to that! Right now, I just play solitaire while watching TV. I hope you're all doing great! See ya soon!

PS--I do still read the ****ypoo, biscottibody. She's really doing great! I also read her regular site and her husband, Fred, too. They're a couple of characters!

Hey Soonie. I'm with you on both the bad mentality this week, and the hot flashes. They are driving me barmy!!! How long do they last for if you dont go for HRT? I must discuss this with my doc at my next regular checkup. Let me know if you find anything that helps a lot, please!!!

Happy Monday morning, everyone! Looks like I almost lost that weight I gained last week in Vegas. I'm happy with that. I guess you could call this "maintaining". Not what I really want but you have to live life while you're at it, right? Sometimes things get in the way of our plans. So now this week I have a real challenge, at least it is for me. You know how I am when I'm alone and the DH isn't around to keep me in line. Well, he's leaving tomorrow morning to visit his Mom and Dad in Memphis for a week. His Dad hasn't been doing very well, he's 92, so I insisted he go to visit. He hasn't seen them in a few years. I know if something happened, he would regret not going to see them. Anyway, I will be on my own for 8 days! BUT! I plan on being as good as I possibly can. Well, not perfect but not wild either. Lately, I have been thinking things through more often before I indulge. I think that's an improvement. And I don't know if it's the new herbal supplements or what, but I haven't had any bouts of depression for quite some time. I still have aches and pains but overall, I feel great! I did exercise on 5 days last week, a few times for an hour or more, and I didn't use any excuses, like "I'm tired", when I had to do it in the afternoon. I just made myself do it! And it always felt great afterward. So since I won't be doing things like making dinner for the DH this week, I will have that extra time to exercise. I can eat on my own schedule and eat good things. Of course, I will miss him but it can be a time of some freedom also. No stress, just me. And the cat, of course. I will be very busy all week also---Red Hat Ladies luncheon tomorrow, dentist Wednesday, acupuncture on Thursday and Bunco group on Saturday. I may take myself to the casino one day too, you know how I love to gamble. And I should have extra time to finish reading Dr. Oz's book too. I was gone all day yesterday with the Red Hat Ladies to Phoenix for another convention and had a good time there too. It seems my life is very busy lately and that's a good thing. I'm trying not to obsess about the weight thing but also trying not to get too far off the wagon.

Okay, that's it from Soonie. I'm leaving soon to do some shopping, Kohl's sent me a $10 gift card that's burning a hole in my pocket, lol. Will probably have some lunch out today, more shopping, then a trip for more acupuncture at 3:30. My shoulder isn't improving yet but this will only be my 6th treatment, usually starts working after 8, they say. Too bad insurance doesn't cover any of it, more guilt! I'm so high-maintanance (sp?)!! I really hope you're all doing excellent (or is that, excellently??) I do check on a few of you once in awhile, sorry, I'm so busy. Hang in there, we can do it! I probably won't be able to get here tomorrow morning, I'm taking the DH to the airport and then rushing home to get ready for the Red Hat Ladies luncheon (it's a Mardi Gras thing) Too much fun! Be back when I can!

Good girl! You should take advantage of your husband's trip to exercise whenever you feel like it and make some healthy meals for yourself. My initial foray into the world of weight loss began three years ago when my husband flew to America for his grandfather's funeral. We weren't married at the time so I couldn't get time off work to go with him. I used that time to get in a lot of exercise and took advantage of my husband's absence to live off fruit and steamed vegetables, which would never be possible with him around, because he needs "real" food, and it's hard for me to make it for him (or even just watch him eating it) without joining in, at least a little bit.

Happy Thursday, everyone! I'm off to the bowling alley this morning, not to bowl but just to watch DH and the gang. I sure do miss it and my shoulder is not getting better yet but I've only had 4 treatments so far and he says it should take at least 8 to feel an improvement. Did I tell you he sprained his ankle, the acupuncturist, and he's hobbling around while sticking needles in me?! Lol. Also, he's treating himself, no ice or ibuprofen, he says, just heat, whirlpool baths and the needles. I really believe in this stuff. Did I tell you about the Chinese herbal supplements I bought from him that have cleared up my sinuses without me having to use the prescription spray I used to use for years? They really work almost right away and he's doing needles for that too. Who needs all those prescription meds with all the side effects? Also since I have stopped taking the Avandia my blood sugar readings are still doing well, as long as I don't eat sweets. Of course, the A1C test that I will have done soon will really tell the tale.

Okay, gotta go. Just know that old Soonie is doing well this week and feeling good. I hope you all are too. I did get here to read a few yesterday but didn't have time to leave comments, sorry. Have a great day, y'all!

Good morning! I just finished my 2 miles of walking on the treadmill. So that's over for another day. I'm running a little late this morning though. It's almost 9:30 here. Yesterday I went for my mammogram and it was over quickly, no problem. Most of the time was spent waiting. But I had along my copy of Prevention magazine so I read a lot of that. Then I went to Sam's club and bought "You: On a Diet". It was less than $15 there. Then it was on to brave the Super WalMart. By now it was 4pm and the store was very busy and they are also remodeling so everything was in a different place. But I made it through and didn't buy any junk, all good stuff. Spent about an hour and a half walking all over the store. Then it was home to make dinner. And my eating went well for the day.

Now it's on to today. At least I'm off to a good start. Going to try some new Kashi cereal for brekky soon. It's high in fiber and low in sugar so it will be good for me with the FF milk. Then I need to color my hair again. I dread it because my hair is getting so long now, below my shoulders, so hard to get the color all over it all. But I'm not paying $40 a month for it when I can still do it myself for less than 10. I would love to go have it done and have some highlights put in but I just feel I'm not worth that much money, maybe some day. Yeah, I know what you're all thinking and, like I said, maybe some day. I have to get rid of this fat face first, I feel. Anyway.....

I have not been here to read in so long I feel left out. I hope to get here later today and I will try very hard. I really miss it. I hope you're all doing well. Have a great day!

Wow, such a big response yesterday from you all!! Thanks for letting me know I was missed. And I do hope you all get the Dr. Oz book, I think it may make it easier to eat right when you know what's going on in there, lol. And, Moody, he is the guy that's on Oprah a lot. I think he's great!

Okay, so far this morning, I got up at 7 and did my 2 mile walk. I didn't do it in any record time but I did break a sweat and that's good enough for me. Dr. Oz says to do at least 30 minutes of walking every day so that's what I'm doing from now on. There are also some exercises to do 3 times a week but I haven't actually read all that part yet. And I always some do stretches after the walking. So I'm back on the wagon. Yesterday, well, that was yesterday, not a good eating day and no exercise. I plan to lose that weight I gained last week by Monday though. I think I can do it. I'm going to clean my kitchen of all the bad stuff and go stock up on the good "legal" stuff later. I'm ready to get going again.

So now it's time for brekky and later I have my mammogram, oh, joy! But I've had so many by now that it's no big thing any more. Just hope it comes out well. It's going up to the mid 80's today, spring is here! Hope you all have a good one!

Hey, has everyone given up on me? Lol. I'm back! We got back Friday night from Vegas but I've been so busy since then. I've missed everyone. As you can see by the weight, I've not been very good. I take a 4-day vacation and blow the whole week! But I know it's mostly water weight and I will be back down by next Monday. I just hate that I've wasted another 2 weeks with my debauchery. I'm still reading Dr. Oz's book "You: On a Diet" and I'm not even half through it yet, I've been busy. But I stayed up last night reading and discovered a lot of new things I didn't know about. I highly recommend this book and I'm going to go buy it myself. I have it from the library now but I want to have it around to check back on things when I need to. So go out and buy it, okay? I mean, it just doesn't tell you about a diet, it tells you all about how the things you eat affect your body, things I never knew about. And written in an interesting and enjoyable way. It's kind of like the "for Dummies" books. Anyway, I love it! The best diet book I've ever read.

So Vegas was fun and we took our time driving up and back so that was enjoyable too. Of course I lost my shirt with the gambling. We stayed about 20 minutes from the strip and had a free shuttle to the strip and we did lots of walking but not as much as we should have. It was pretty cold and windy most of the time. Of course this week it's getting warmer there, just like our weather here. Up to about 80 today. I have an appointment with the acupuncture guy later this morning. Oh, joy! I don't mind the needles, it's the uncomfortable position I have to stay in for 25 minutes that kills me. Laying on my right side with my left arm behind my back. I try not to move like they tell you but I start to slide towards my back and can't relax. I'm going to mention that to him today to see if something can't be done about it. Anyway....

I hope you're all doing okay. I hope to get here later and do some reading. I'm so out of the loop. So go do some good things for yourself today and take care of those bodies. Have a great Monday!

Welcome back! I am still on the waiting list for the You On A Diet book...I also saw it out on CD version that I had considered, but I'm going to wait until I have a chance to browse it from the library. I may give it as a gift to my mom, however. I hope you feel better soon and that the acupuncture doc is able to help. I've never tried that before, always wondered how well it worked. Sorry I'm not making regular entries lately! I've been so busy, which is a good thing, right? My weight stayed the same this week so I guess that's pretty good too. As much as we ate out this week, I really expected a gain. So all is good! We're leaving for Vegas in just minutes. I dread the long ride, we're driving and it's about an 8 hour drive. But I have lots of CD's and my new WW magazine and there's lots of scenery, lol. We'll be back on Friday night. My poor kitty will be all alone for that time or maybe #3 son will remember to come by once or twice to check on her and give her a treat. Too bad cats just don't understand when we leave them for awhile. But they seem to have no concept of time so she'll probably forgive me. Okay, have a great week. Wish me luck. Buh-bye for now.

Hello, there! Nothing much going on here with the Soonie. I went with the DH yesterday morning and just watched the gang bowl. It's kind of fun just watching and I wasn't too antsy. Then we went to lunch with another couple to BJ's. Hadn't ever been there before but now I know, they serve too much food. I ordered the half turkey sandwich with salad. The sandwich was huge, the salad was huge and I didn't know it came with fries. So with those fries sitting there, I just had to eat some of them. They were really good. Only ate about 1/3 of the salad and ate all the half sandwich, not too many fries. Then later, sis called and wanted to take us out to Swensen's for the "meal deal" which includes a great burger, fries, drink and a small sundae. I ate half the burger, got cole slaw instead of the fries, ate half the cole slaw, drank iced tea, and only ate a few bites of the sundae, gave the rest to DH. So all in all, I didn't do too badly for the day. Go, Soonie! Oh, and the night before we all went to the casino and ate dinner at the Mexican food restaurant there. I didn't do too badly. We had cheese tortilla that had ground beef, tomatoes, black olives, jalapenos and cheese and I don't think I ate too much. Then I won $200 on a quarter poker machine, 4 aces, and also won 125 quarters for a straight flush. So I did pretty well there too. I usually don't gamble that much in one week, what with the Saturday gambling I had too, but I enjoyed it and did well anyway. Then we have 3 nights in Vegas next week too. I hope I do as well there. We don't plan on doing much gambling though, the DH doesn't usually gamble much at all (he lost a whopping $8 the other night) but lots of nice walks and quality time alone will be nice. I hope the weather is good there next week.

Okay, today it's cloudy, expecting a little rain, up to 60 degrees and windy. I have to go out to the store and my acupuncture appointment this afternoon. So far the pills I'm taking aren't helping my hot flashes much but my sinuses are doing pretty good. I quit using my prescription nasal spray Monday and just take the herbal pills for that. Anyway, I'm taking 8 herbal pills 3 times a day now. The Chondroitin, the one for the hot flashes and the one for the sinuses. 2,3, and 3. Oh, and I'm reading Dr. Oz's book "You: On a Diet". So far it's good and I'm hoping for good things from it. I'll let you know. Also have my "What to Eat When You Get Diabetes" waiting for me at the library so I'll pick that one up later, I hope. So now I'm going to go read some more and then get ready to go. Hope you're all doing well and have a great weekend. Soonie, out!

Good morning! Things are going well and I feel like I have kept the weight off so far, although I haven't been on the scale since Monday. I exercised yesterday and this morning, my usual 2 miles on the treadmill. I know, not much but I so wanted to sleep in this morning but got up anyway. My left shoulder is very sore this morning from the accupuncture treatment yesterday. He said I would think he was making it worse for awhile but that it would get better. He said I have tendonitis in my left shoulder and arthritis in my right shoulder so he will also treat me for that. He will also be treating me for my sinus problem and the hot flashes. I brought home lots of Chinese herbal pills also for the hot flashes, the sinus thing and Chondroitin for my joints. A pretty expensive day but if it all works, it will be worth it. I will also be taking a month off from my bowling and then switching to a lighter ball. Then when I start back to bowling, I will only bowl once a week for awhile. I know it will be hard but I have to do it or someday soon, I will need surgery and may never bowl again. I really like this guy, he cured my neck pain back in 2004 that even a chiropractor couldn't. So this is all good. I will still go with DH on Thursdays to watch the gang bowl and maybe on Sundays with him and BIL.

Okay, that's my news. Oh, and less bowling will give me that extra time to do more other exercise. I'm hoping to lose a couple of pounds this week before we go to Vegas on Tuesday. At least there I won't be tempted by all the good food since we will have our own kitchen at the resort and will take some of our own food. We will be driving up. And we plan on doing lots of walking. So that's all good too! Well, you all have a great day. See ya later.

Oh dear, poor you! I have just started taking Chondroitin too, for my knee. I feel like it's working, although it's only been a week or two so probably too soon to tell. I guess all we can do is hope for the best!

Can you let me know if the Chinese herbal pills work for hot flashes. I'm having a problem with them myself at the moment and am trying to avoid HRT if I can. I could visit a Chinese herbalist in the city I work in.

Sorry to hear of your shoulder problem. A 16 lb ball! My gosh! I use a 12 lb one. I kow you don't get the "pin-action" with one that light, but hey - I do what I can........take it easy and here's wishing you a speedy recovery. I haven't been able to bowl for various reasons for a couple of weeks. Maybe can get back to it soon. Congrats on the 150's and I wish I could find a Red Hats group that was fun here in my town!

Okay, I don't know whether to count this new weight or not. It's right back to what I weighed after I was sick the end of last month. We'll see if it holds this time. I'm sure going to try to keep it there or less. I love looking at it though, lol. Finally back in the 150's again. I don't have as much going on this week so plenty of time for exercise. Although, today I have only bowled 4 games this morning, did okay the first 3 games and made the first cut but blew the 4th game and was eliminated. And I sure was tired after that. Usually I can bowl 5 games and more with the DH and not get tired but I think I'm more stressed on Monday mornings with all the competition. I hope after I have more experience with this, I will be more relaxed about it. I'm such a competitor with my bowling! And it's also taking a huge toll on my body since I'm throwing a 16 pound ball. My right neck and shoulder muscles hurt all the time now. I guess I should check into getting a lighter ball. Just a month ago this was not bothering me much except for my left shoulder and arm which have bothered me for years now ever since I hurt it lifting weights. Anyway, I have an appointment with an accupuncturist tomorrow and will see what he can do for me. I went to him a few years ago and he cured my chronic neck pain in the left side of my neck that I had for years. Even a chiropractor couldn't help me with that. Anyway I hope he doesn't say I need to quit my bowling or it can't be helped. I won't do that until I can't possibly bowl anymore! I bowled with a guy today that carried an oxygen tank on his back! So you see us bowlers just won't give up! I've seen people bowl from wheelchairs too! But maybe the lighter ball is the thing to try next. We'll see what the accupuncture guy says.

Okay, I'm rambling! So how's your day going? I will go right from here to check up on you all. I've been so busy lately and miss you all. So have a good evening and I'll see you tomorrow.

I know what you mean about bowling... geevee keeps telling me to stop running because of my knee but I'm so stubborn. I just feel that I'm probably going to get arthritis anyway, so what's the point? And my husband is playing basketball with a chronic injury, too. So you're not the only one!
