Okay, lots of news to tell.....I quit the HCG diet! I know it works for some people but not for me. I became very sick last weekend and took my last dose last Monday morning. I shouldn't have taken it then but I really thought I could continue it. But I felt sick just thinking of the foods that I could eat--the apple breakfast and all the rest---and I just practically gagged. My heart was racing and I couldn't walk accross the room without getting out of breath. And my sight was blurry a lot of the time. So all that worried me and I said I just can't do this anymore. It took me 3 or 4 days to get back to normal. I even had an echocardiogram Friday because my doctor was worried about my heart. But all is well and I'm feeling better. And the weight came back on really quick, as I knew it would. So now I'm back to eating right and exercise. Did half an hour treadmill yesterday and this morning. I need to do better with the eating. Baby steps. I have an appointment with the eye doctor this afternoon but I feel my sight has returned to normal, we'll see. I was due for a check-up anyway. Foolish Soonie, thinking she could do it the easy, quick way. Other people, maybe, not me. So, go ahead, say it, "I told you so". Duh! But Soonie never gives up, right? Here we go again! Glad you listened to your body & stopped when you did. Too bad it didn't work but as you said maybe it does for some people but not for you. I give you credit for getting back on track with healthy eating & exercise.

I am so relieved..My sister lost her BFF to a similar diet..She was 30 yo and left behind 3 children...I am so happy that you are better and I don't think anyone would say anything but positive things about your choice to stop... Have a good one

hey! you are doing nicely! You are back to around the weight you were in February! That's so awesome!!!!!! Keep up the good work, because even if you feel you haven't, you have - you've made a lot of progress!!!!! I'm very happy for you, I know how hard it can be when you lose like 5 pounds, just to put them back on because you feel like you haven't made any progress anyway. but i've learned, even losing 5 pounds should be considered an accomplishment!

VLCD 8  Still losing slowly. I had a great day yesterday, staying with the plan exactly, no breadsticks, no soda, no flavored water. Still not as much loss as I would have thought. I've heard of people going slowly for a few days and then, having a loss of 2 or 3 pounds. Guess that's not going to happen with me. They say a  woman will probably lose half a pound a day, on average. That's good enough. I'm sticking with it. Yesterday's menu:

Breakfast: 9 strawberries

Lunch:grilled chicken breast & grape tomatoes

Snack: 9 apple slices

Dinner: lean hamburger, grilled & broccoli

I drank some Sleepytime tea about an hour before bed and almost went right to sleep. I'll try that again tonight. I had been having a hard time getting to sleep the few nights before. Got up this morning at 7 to take my HCG and then lay in bed, reading "The Help". I'm loving it so far, just started it last night. We had fun playing cards yesterday, we always do. I drank at least a gallon of water all day also. I think I will have my Coke Zero today at lunch and maybe one grissine breadstick sometime during the day, if I need it. I really don't miss any foods but it's hard when someone talks about a certain food or I see it on TV. I just tell myself that I can have that occasionally later. And I'm never really that hungry.  I have 39 more days to go on the low-calorie diet and then I can start adding more items. I CAN DO THIS!! Have a great day!

VLCD 7    So a loss, but not as much as I would like. Of course! I thought it would be more because I went without any grassini bread sticks and also did lots of walking. Nothing strenuous though. ( Grassini breadsticks are just a low calorie version and they come in several brands, I think. Some people use them and others don't. My sister said they may be slowiing down my weightloss) I feel fine and will continue on. Hopefully, after today, I will be down 10 pounds in 7 days. Can't complain. Yesterday's menu:

Breakfast: 1 orange

Lunch: chicken breast & tomato

Snack: 9 strawberries

Dinner: small lean burger, grilled & broccoli

Lots and lots of water. Okay, must get on with my day. I play pinochle this afternoon with 3 other ladies. We have a lot of fun and laughs. I'll see you tomorrow. Have a wonderful Friday! And thanks for all your kind comments.

VLCD 6 Up two tenths of a pound. I'm sure this is normal as with any diet. Maybe I'll see a bigger loss tomorrow. Yesterday's menu:

Breakfast: 1 apple

Lunch: grilled chicken breast & asparagus

Snack: 9 strawberries & 1 grassini bread stick

Dinner: chili

I'm feeling good and the ankles and feet are still not swelling. Yeah! Not taking the Lasix. See you tomorrow. Have a great day!

Just read your post yesterday & am happy to know that there is someone close to my age on DD and we have the same goal weight. You must feel good about your progress! I'm taking the slower route but as I said we are all individuals and it's not one plan that fits everyone.

VLCD 5  I'm feeling great this morning. Down another 8 tenths of a pound. I think it was the Lasix that caused my problems because I stopped taking it yesterday and feel fine now. My ankles and feet are normal now too. I think the diet, eating no salty junk foods, is helping that problem. I read the article on HCG posted here this morning and it's not all true. You don't need to inject it, I take it sublingually, twice a day. And there are a lot of other untruths there. If you want to read the truth, read Dr. Simeon's Pounds and Inches, you can find it on the Internet. Anyway, I'm happy with it so far. I'm 62 years old. I've had years of experience with all kinds of other diets and they don't work! Oh, sure, there are a few people that can maintain their weight with eating right but how many people do you know who do that? Most of us diet, lose some, gain some, get disgusted and give up again, over and over. I lost over 50 pounds over 10 years ago but didn't know how to maintain it. I had had no experience with that before. So had gained back over 40 pounds of it over the years (do I say the word "over" enough? heh), up and down and up and down. So with all my diet experience at age 62 I decided this was my best chance and I would take it. And those prices the article quoted were only those at a weightloss clinic. I payed just over $100 for enough to do 45 days at a reputable pharmacy on the net. It's working, I know it works, my sister and people all over the internet have done it and succeeded. Do the reseach! Okay, I'm not mad, I expected some feedback but I'm not leaving here unless someone asks me to. I welcome all comments. Yesterday's menu:

Breakfast: 1 apple (I try to buy the biggest apples and all kinds)

Lunch: grilled chicken breast & tomato

Snack: 1 orange & 1 grassini bread stick

Dinner: chili made from 3 1/2 oz. lean ground beef and chopped tomato with lots of seasonings and it really filled me up. Yum!

Okay, on with the day. I feel good, I'm not hungry or craving McDonald's and not tired anymore. I'll keep posting here to keep track of my progress. See you tomorrow. Have a great day!

P.S. I forgot to mention--my blood sugar readings have been phenominal for me---between 78 and 112. So I'm happy about that too. They were usually way above 120.

VLCD 4 Down 8.4 pounds.  It sure is fun posting those new weights everyday. I'm doing fine except kind of tired, you know, how you feel when you're getting over the flu and you haven't eaten much the last couple of days. I went to bed about 9 last night, got up at 7 this morning to take my HCG and went back to bed until 9:10. Of course, I was up 3 times during the night to tinkle. Here's yesterday's menu:

Breakfast: 1 apple

Lunch: 3 1/2 oz. grilled chicken breast & sliced tomato

Snack: 9 strawberries and 1 grissini bread stick

Dinner: 13 small plain shrimp & asparagus

I also ate another grissini bread stick later in the evening. I just felt so weak and tired I thought it would help. Didn't seem to hurt my weightloss. Good thing I don't need to exercise for this, I just don't have the energy right now. But that will come after I finish this phase and go on to eat more after another 43 days of this. Or until my HCG runs out. I ordered enough to do 45 days this time. The first 2 days were the loading days, then another 43 days on the HCG, then 3 days off the HCG and still on the 500 calories. Then I can add in other foods but not sugars or starches for 3 weeks. Then I gradually try adding some of those but if my weight goes up I have to be more careful. Anyway, that's the plan. I'm so determined to follow it through. I love the quick losses. Sorry I haven't been here to leave comments but I do read some. My back hurts sitting here too long. Hi Soonie! low energy doesn't sound like much fun - I love grilled chicken, too. With the lasix you are taking - are you taking a potassium supplement or eating bananas, drinking OJ or something with potassium? This is one of the things that lasix does - depletes potassium and potassium regulates heart beat...

Just a head's up: getting up to go to the bathroom multiple times at night is a possible sign of sleep apnea, not old age as was once thought. Not getting good restorative sleep can make it impossible to lose weight.

I'm sorry, but I think this is a starvation diet and is dangerous. Please be EXTRA careful Soonie! I wish you well, but I will not comment further.

I am still afraid of losing muscle mass with a loooooow calorie diet. Once in awhile I go below 1000cal to give my weight loss a boost but not day in day out. Have a life to live and weakness isnt an option

Yep, we've been here forever Soonie--I'm glad the swelling is better. In defense of low-cal, there is a movement/group that advocates calorie restriction and the reason for it is to slow down the aging process. I'm not sure of the guidelines, but on one program I saw I think the couple was keeping it to about 1,000/per day. It's being researched and some interesting things are coming out.

I know you don't plan to do this forever, but take care! Sounds like you are:-) Be well Soonie!

VLCD 3  Well, the weight is still going down. When I got on the scale this morning, I thought sure there would be no loss. But it looks like this is working so far. I know it's just the beginning and everyone thinks I will fail again and I will just gain it all back. But I'm telling you, this is do or die time! I WILL do this! I'm still feeling a lot better than I thought I would the first couple of days on the low calories. And not hungry as much as I thought I would be. I had to eat lunch earlier than I had planned yesterday because I was so hungry, but what I ate was filling and kept me going until my snack at 4:00. Here's my menu:

Breakfast: 1 apple

Lunch: 3 1/2 oz. lean burger/ spicy mustard & 3 1/2 oz. fresh asparagus & one grassini bread stick

Snack: a handful of frozen strawberries, thawed, of course, plain, no sweetener

Dinner: 3 1/2 oz. grilled b/s chicken breast/ spicy mustard & 3 oz. shredded cabbage/ Walden Farms Honey Mustard dressing

More than 100 oz. of water and one can of Coke Zero. I found when I was eating dinner, I actually felt full before I had finished it all! And I wasn't hungry when I went to bed as usual diets do. I feel kind of tired this morning but I'm not used to getting up at 7:00. I take the HCG at 7 in the morning and 7 at night.  I did have a pretty good night's sleep and only got up 3 times, heh. Guess I'm no longer retaining water. But 7 pounds in 2 days, I'm happy. I hope it keeps up but I'm aware that some days may be better than others. I hope you all have a great day! See you tomorrow.

VLCD 2  Voila!! And the losing starts! I know some of it is water weight, the Lasix is working, my feet and ankles are skinny again and I have no side effects as far as I can tell. Here's my menu from yesterday:

Breakfast: 10:30- 1 apple

Lunch: 1:30- 3 1/2 oz. lean hamburger/ spicey mustard (no bread, of course) 3 1/2 oz. fresh asparagus

Snack: 4:00- 1 orange

Dinner: 6:30- 3 1/2 oz. plain, cold shrimp, 3 1/2 oz sliced tomato

Doesn't sound like much, does it? I felt better than I thought I would the first day of this. Hungry a little but not as bad as I'd thought. Also drank over 100 oz. of water. No exercise, you can't do any strenuous exercise because it will just make you  hungry. And you don't lose lean muscle with this, just fat. If you research this, it might make more sense. Anyway, I'm happy. Now we'll see what happens with tomorrow's weight. See you then. Have a great day!

VLCD 1  (that's "very low calorie day")  Okay, a gain of one pound from the two loading days. That's not too bad. I've read of people who gained as much as six pounds! But then, I have been gaining all along the last few weeks. It was really hard to eat as much fat as possible. Didn't feel hungry for lunch yesterday, I had a big breakfast, but managed to down 6 chicken fries and a small order of fries from Burger King. I felt nauseous a couple of times during the day. I won't list what I ate. Let's just say, it was an amazing amount. Soooo, onward and downward. I will also start taking my new meds today (Lasix) to help relieve the swelling in my feet and ankles (and probably the rest of my body too) I don't like the idea of starting new meds at the same time as the new diet, but I've put them off for 2 days now. I just hope I don't have any side effects from them. So I will probably be losing lots of water weight at first. Okay, time to go get filled up on lots of water (and I hope it just goes right through me). Drinking water is not usually difficult for me to do but it's been a long time since I had to try to make a certain requirement for the day. It's one of the most important things for the protocol. I will report back tomorrow and let you know how my first day went. I don't foresee any problems, I have plenty of legal foods for my meals. I hope you all have a great Saturday!
