Hi all,

I'm hanging in there. I do very well for breakfast & lunch. About 3 pm I start trolling for snacks. I do have very healthy snacks such as apples, nectarines, various vegetables but I seem to be hungry for crackers and other carbohydrates. Working on it. Now that I finished the wheat thins, my options are a Wasa crisp bread or low fat triscuits so at least my options are limited. Actually doing ok today.

Made a decision to not weigh in every day. Trying just twice a week. My thought is to not be so obsessed about my weight but to eat healthy and get some exercise.

bearcountrygg on 06/26/2020:
The less I think about dieting the better i do....out of sight out of mind kind of....if that makes sense..I agree with limiting the weigh ins.

happy-1 on 06/26/2020:
^^ Second. I'm doing it by rolls of muffin over my jeans that were too big last year.

grannyannie on 06/27/2020:
I don't think of fruit or raw veggies when I want a snack either. Too bad we don't. I want carbs, salty, or sweet.

Donkey on 06/27/2020:
Oh... My... Gosh.... This 3pm thing you speak of -- this is a REAL thing! This is how I gained all my weight at work. The 3pm hour comes around and all that will help me is chips and chips and more chips.

My Male Co-Worker has this problem too.

I had to work really hard to break this habit. Oh sure there are substitutes (carrot sticks, cucumber slices, etc. - dipped in ranch salad dressing) but it's a sad cry from the delight and satisfaction that chips bring.

I've tried having an afternoon cup of coffee to get me through this. That has worked well.

Still not the same thing...

thinkpositive on 06/28/2020:
I guess it’s good to know that I’m not alone!

Horn_of_plenty on 06/27/2020:
Good to snack ! I find having liquid drinks when I was first snacking helped - like an amazing fed coffee with a carb treat like couple cookies or chocolates.

Maria7 on 07/01/2020:
Maybe try chewing gum instead of snacking. It really does help if you are hungry for something sweet.

Hi,

I feel like I'm making some progress.   not on weight loss, but hoping that will follow, but in being able to limit snacking and eliminating wine. I believed that when I can get 3 good days in a row, that   success can follow.
Went for a long walk yesterday which felt good.

Hope everyone is hanging in there !

legcramps on 06/10/2020:
Have a good day :)

grannyannie on 06/10/2020:
Those are biggies for me. Snacks and wine or beer.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/11/2020:
you are totally right! success ALWAYS follows a little behind the initial efforts we make! it's coming for you!

Hi-

Ok, not making a ton of progress in cutting out snacks. Wish I could just clear the shelves of everything that I shouldn't be eating but can't as my husband needs to gain weight. Keeping at it though. My food choices are great until around 4:00 . Planning a healthy snack at 4:00 today.

Take care

Donkey on 06/03/2020:
I can so relate. During the week, I do ok until around 3:30p. Then the anxiety eating kicks in. After dinner is also another "danger zone".

bearcountrygg on 06/03/2020:
That is an ongoing problem I think for many of us. One thing that does help me is to have one cupboard with snacks that are only for my husband......I stay out of there...( kind of the same principal I had for my kids candy at Easter and Halloween....it was theirs...that kept me out of it).....Sometimes I just have to play little mind games with myself.

grannyannie on 06/03/2020:
Snacking for me is bad at night watching tv.

Horn_of_plenty on 06/03/2020:
Ah ! To need to gain weight ! That would be the life !

hi,

a good start to the week . Some social distance family get togethers on Monday. Golf on Tuesday . A good long walk today.
keeping track of calories on My Fitness Pal. Staying under 1300 calories. Can't seem to get my Fitbit to synch with My Fitness Pal.

Next challenge is to cut back on daily glass of wine.

Will check back  soon, hoping for some progress this week.

Donkey on 05/28/2020:
I have heard others with syncing problem with Fitbit. Keep trying?

I don't track food, but if I did, I would use a method other than my Fitbit.

horn_of_plenty on 05/28/2020:
I find that alcohol consumption is difficult when keeping calories low too. I like to now have sweetened spiked seltzer which is half the calories of a tiny glass of wine :) I sweeten the seltzer with liquid stevia ....

It’s wonderful to play gold which is totally more socially distant :)

bearcountrygg on 05/28/2020:
I had some trouble with fitbit...and finally gave up on it.

legcramps on 05/28/2020:
Golf is a great way to get some fresh air and spend some time outside :) good for you!

Maria7 on 05/28/2020:
Glad you are back again. Smile!

 Hi,

Still trying to stay away from processed food & sugar. Keeping calories around 1300. Tracking foods online. Doing some exercise each day. Seeing small loss which is fine.

Have a great day!

horn_of_plenty on 04/09/2019:
Sounds like you are doing the right thing all around, nice job THINK!

Donkey on 04/09/2019:
Good job - it's not easy! Consistency is key. I was reading in an online fitness group that when motivation is out, that's when we need to rely on discipline.

Maria7 on 04/11/2019:
Good plan.

Hi,

Had a so-so week . Still trying to avoid sugar but did find myself eating a roll and pita bread which are not allowed on this Sugarbuster’s plan.

Need to be better about planning food for the day & not going off the plan.

Exercie has been decent with 2 exercise classes  bike rides and some walking.

Donkey on 04/06/2019:
I know this - it is really hard, and I give you kudos for working it. Some days will be better accomplishments than others. I think being aware is half the battle right there. And having a plan is probably the other half of it, right?

Good work on the exercise!

horn_of_plenty on 04/06/2019:
I always do better with sugar in moderation instead of no sugar ....I don’t like not allowing myself things bc that causes me to binge! Perhaps a little like that roll and pita bread is ok for you ?

Hi,

I quit WW about a month or so ago & don’t regret it. Although I think their approach is fine- healthy eating and healthy lifestyle, no foods are prohibited- it was just getting old with me. And I felt like I have given enough money to Oprah. :)

Trying to eliminate sugar. Did fine yesterday. I tried Sigar Busters plan many years ago & was successful so why not try again. Eliminating, or severely cutting back keeps my blood sugar in check & helps with food cravings. I’ll still track foods.

Husband is getting stronger after his hospitalization and we are adjusting to a new lifestyle which limits our activities.

Have a great day!

Donkey on 04/02/2019:
I'd like to learn more about Sugar Busters. This sounds like the encouragement I need.

thinkpositive on 04/02/2019:
I’m sure there is more to it but I’m just starting by watching my food & not eating sweets, white bread, potatoes. If you get the book it will list all fruits with high glycemic rating . I’m going to look for a used book- or if I can’t find that I’ll buy the book.Which kills me because I gave my copy away long ago.

horn_of_plenty on 04/02/2019:
Oprah sure has enough $!

she came out with this pizza, it's only 1/3 cauliflower crust and the rest is typical ingredients. a SCAM! calories are almost the same as regular pizza and i was hungry early after eating it! that was a scam! i didn't even ever finish it bc it wasn't satisfying and the slices were not filling...i just threw the rest of the full size pie away. i was going to share it / save it for later but it never came to be.

i don't like to eliminate foods as then i crave them even worse...

i'm glad your hubby is doing better. my mom is recovering from being hit by a car..she should be back to normal in a couple more months.

i'm sure your husband appreciates your support!

thinkpositive on 04/02/2019:
Thanks, Had to smile at your description of the pizza scam! Yes, just done with all of that. Gosh, so sorry about your mother. My husband agreed to have VNA come to the house & I’m so glad he did. A great help to get him to exercise.

Horn_of_plenty on 04/04/2019:
I'm glad your husband also receives services at home, they are very convenient!

Hi again,

Need to get back on track. Heard that before? Ha!

Some people can’t eat when they are stressed. Not me, I eat when I’m stressed, when I’m happy... but more so when I’m stressed . My husband has a chronic health problem that put him in the hospital recently. Doing better now but still a stressful situation.

So, back to square one- back to tracking food & logging in here.

Have a great day.

Donkey on 03/31/2019:
I can eat any time - good times and bad, let's eat.

I'm so sorry you had a really rough time. About 4 or 5 years ago, my husband was in the hospital for 4-5 days, and it was so hard. I had 2 kids who were in school -- old enough to be on their own for a few hours, but they were still worried about their dad. So I had to juggle work, picking up 2 kids, feeding ourselves, and visiting husband who was in a lot of pain, even though he was really drugged up. It was exhausting. The kids and I did a lot of fast food that week, unfortunately, because we were on the road so much and just no time.

I hope your husband is doing better - hopefully he's at home? Something about being at home that is so assuring.

thinkpositive on 03/31/2019:
Yes, thank you he is home & doing better but our lives have changed as he is more limited than before. Sounds like you have been through a lot yourself.

legcramps on 04/01/2019:
I am sorry to hear you are having a rough time right now. I hope your husband is doing better now. It is okay to have to start over you know, because that means you are still determined to live a better life. Not starting over, now that would really not be good.

Chin up.

thinkpositive on 04/02/2019:
THanks, we’re both doing better.

horn_of_plenty on 04/01/2019:
I'M LIKE YOU! I still have to log food and keep track, especially if i indulge, i feel better knowing my calories...if i have sweets, i like to keep track and still have a decent average everyday and balance my sweets and treats out!

to me, tracking my food is like meditation. keeps me relaxed as a habit and thing i do all the time.

thinkpositive on 04/02/2019:
If I don’t track I can kid myself into thinking that I’m doing okay. Thanks,
