Up super early again...Maybe this is my new normal.........I like it actually...I feel great and get so many things done........I love mornings...everyday is a new opportunity to right yesterdays wrongs, do better and make needed changes.  I'm avoiding the scale and feeling like my clothes are just getting looser and looser........always my best gauge.......typical early start to a new weight loss....and it will get more difficult as I get closer to the goal.......but already looking at several items of my clothing now and thinking I need to set those aside.......and dig out some things that fit a bit better......I used to run right to the places in town that accept donations....but now there aren't any........so I guess they will just go to the basement and wait for the day when they open again........too good to throw away. 

Today is the cleaning out the refrigerator day........D opened a new loaf of bread ( straight from the freezer this morning and it was moldy....so it went into the freezer from the store that way....Bummer.....looks like I need to place a Walmart pick up order.  Bread is getting hard to find around here.......Walmart had NONE my last order.......so I picked this ( moldy) one up locally in our smaller store......NOT GOOD!

Had some Schwans french loaves in the freezer..so baking those today....but they aren't regular loaves........and he likes his whole grain sandwich bread.

Really small first world problem.....I guess...actually a nothing in the whole scheme of things.

I'm seeing my carb heavy days...like always.....and still happy that I can lose and still eat them...I do think they can trigger hunger....but I can manage that.

Looser clothes are definitely a good indicator of loss (or gain!). Good for you!

Apparently they did sell us moldy bread...because when I brought it home it went straight to the freezer....took it out...and it's moldy.....small chain store here....they have to be watched closely...they keep past date things on the shelf...put brown meat out under red lights....so...I placed a walmart order for pick up at 9 this morning....

I let last weeks calories go......just like WW points..what you don't use in the week...you lose them...and get new ones in the new week. So for me to voluntarily lose them was a big thing for me..back in WW...I always used them up...it's a relief to just be able to let them go now.

yeah that is your "normal" that you are a morning person! how nice! i used to be, a very long time ago! (when i was in college i think, also my first years in the workplace till close to turning 30 i guess). so around 8 years only...ok...since i've been a morning person!

i really like how you are experimental and always changing up your routine / diet a little bit....this is good and things are always exciting and far less boring.

Getting hungry after carbs used to lead me to eat more...I've finally accepted that it will happen and just try to avoid eating at that point. Carbs keep me happy...so being hungry after is something I deal with.

Up at 3:30 again and so was D......We are going to bed earlier...it's getting dark earlier...so It works out fine....I am such a morning person......and it's 9:15 A.M. and I've already spent over 4 hours on the pantry ( moved it's location to another room.....and sorting by best if used by dates...and I LOVE IT.)..so much more organized now and a lot easier to find things.......still not done but getting there.....winter can come now....I'm prepared.  There is always a contiunual job of rotation......since it's what is called a working pantry.......so basically it is never done.......but I don't mind at all.

Working on the continuation of laundry...........

"the continuation of laundry" - ha ha ha, story of my life, I think. :-D I'll be washing all of our bedding today because of Baby Kitty. It wasn't enough to have the 3 loads yesterday, I guess. Still, something very comforting in clean laundry, knowing it's done.

I know the daylight is changing, yet it still doesn't feel like autumn to me. I'm not sure why.

PS When I mentioned that I like to read your daily goals, please don't feel ANY pressure to post them. I wanted to express that I appreciate them and yes, I DO enjoy reading them. I think reading them is like a reminder to myself to do better, especially with the TV goal.

Wide awake at 3 A.M. and so was D....so we are up.........Both motivated to get some things out of the way today..........Washer going, .......feeling really good.......Not sure what the scales say...and don't really care...because I feel like I'm losing inches...(maybe just body redistribution?....)...Don't know but I'm feeling better than I have felt in a long time.  So......on with the housework......plenty here to keep me busy.   I have decided to just weigh in occassionally...not on any schedule....but as the mood strikes.....I think that will be the best motivator for me....so long as I'm at 115 on labor day 2021.....then it won't be important........plenty of time to do that.

Reminders to myself.......food fatigue is good, eating foods that are not my favorites is good, no forcing myself to eat just because it's mealtime, Take vitamins, I'f I'm hungry then eat...if not...then don't...watch out for snacking as entertainment...in fact watch out for food as entertainment........Food as fuel, not as fun........

Feeling good Is for sure the bottom line...i like the numbers...but they aren't really as accurate as how well you feel.

When it comes down to it, feeling good (healthy) is what counts. As a society, but mostly women, we've been too focused on the numbers. I think you've found a good plan that works for you. Like my 6 month experiment, do the right things for yourself and your body will find its happy place.

I love that you post your "reminders". Even though you may not be tracking your habits, e.g. no TV during the day, I find it helpful to me, as you see fit, as your reader, to see you mention these. Like a friendly reminder!

I have been at was on a couple of occasions in my life at a plateau......of 130.....My body always seemed to like it there. I suspect I'm finally on a downward move...( and that is why I feel so good)...but the scale can wait....feeling good is more important to me than the number....I am noticing my pants fitting differently...which is so funny...things are apparently shifting...LOL

Still so dark at 7 A.M.....In the summer I was already at the grocery store when they open at 7 and it was light out......

I've realized a few things this last week..........That if I eat the same foods over and over I get food fatigue...and am not as interested in eating......( I can use that to my advantage)

If I eat pasta or rice daily...my blood sugars stay up where they belong.....( I can use that to my advantage)

If I fix foods that I don't especially love...then I just eat less( I can use that to my advantage)

Always keeping in mind that Food as fuel and not fun is just a HUGE HELP!  Finding FUN in other things just works for me.

8,388 Cals left until next Thursday

Moving things around here and redoing some cabinets and closets.......been working on that since before daybreak......they are looking great but the bedroom looks like a disaster area............

Lunch was kind of weird...very snacky and not like a meal at all....but that's okay.....I've figured out that i often have a high cal day and then a low one...so will see how this plays out....( or a hungry day and a not hungry day).......

Super busy day, that flew by........Got a lot done and tomorrow will be the same.  When i just walked to the maibox...I spotted the tree with the red on the lower part....but from the driveway.,..I see that it's red at the top too....with the frost...it should be beautiful soon......Todays food was different.....but I feel great and I had the available calories to use so I'm not mad at myself.....the beauty of counting calories this way.

Good attitude toward food. I eat pretty much the same thing every day although the curries vary a lot.

Midsummer it is light out about 3:30am. Now we're to the point where we don't even shut the bedroom curtains. We get up when it's still dark.

We still have a lot of green too...but we hit 31 yesterday in the middle of the night...so it will move along now with better colors......And YES FOOD IS COMPLICATED...and never more so than when there are blood sugar issues...it does force us to live differently around here now....because D is HIGH and I'm LOW..

It doesn't get totally dark here in the summer. The sun doesn't come up at 3:30, more like 4:30 but it starts getting light by 3:30ish. And it's still very light at 11pm. The opposite is true in winter. We are as far north as southern Alaska.

Up early as usual....42 degrees out...trees are turning...some reds, pinks and oranges......LOVE FALL

Week one is done on my weekly calorie plan

Giving myself 1 year, until next labor day 2021 to lose 15 pounds ( to 115)

I'm starting with 1,400 cals a day for a weekly total of 9,800 for the week ( to be used as desired)

In week 1 I used 9,030 of them

Easily left the 770 cals unused for the week...( for me that is a big win)

9,030 used cals divided by 7 days = a daily average of 1,270 calories used per day

Right exactly where I always knew I needed to be to have any weekly loss ( 1,200 to 1,300)

This weeks loss was ....8/10ths of a pound and I'm very happy with that....broke the 130 barrier!!!

I learned that food fatigue ( eating the same limited things day after day) takes away my appetite to a certain extent and I can use that to help me want to eat less.

I had slacked off on taking my vitamins and will start tracking those daily now to make up for any nutrients missed in food.

Last week flew by...didn't feel like a diet...but more like a game and I NEED THAT!!!  It wasn't punishment...it was FUN!

Day 1...week 2 ......Thursday to Thursday   9,800 calories for the week...Food as Fuel NOT Fun

Coffee = 2

Zatarains  leftover brown rice and black beans = 105

Leftover broccoli and cauliflower = 20


Unconventional breakfast and that's a good thing...makes me not want to eat a lot!

127 cals for breakfast

Took all vitamins ( multi, extra C, extra Zinc, Extra Omega, Extra D, Turmeric, Elderberry)

All of the first weeks 6 things to accomplish have already become habit so no need to track those anymore........Enjoying all of them without specific pressure now so they are all easily do-able........and I' m automatically upping the exercise i notice on a daily basis....keeping it fun...not a chore.....it's all a game to me that I enjoy playing now and not a chore.

Snack = Chocolate chip clif bar = 240


367 cals used so far


last of the lasagna ( thnk goodness) = 400

1 oatmeal cookie = 140


Cals for the day so far = 907


1 chicken tender, cooked in a little olive oil = 105

peas and carrots = 30

1 small corn muffin = 170

Knorr sides cheddar broccoli rice/pasta = 200


505 cals

Total cals for the day = 1,412

Done eating for the day....just drinking water.......seem to have broken the evening snacking...and going to bed a bit earlier helps too.

We live in a forest so they really stand out...although all of the pines don't change ....but are always beautiful anytime.......the pops of color will get really vivid soon....I love seasons changing...

I meant to comment a couple of days ago, regarding weighing in. Pick a frequency that works for you. I think once a month would not be often enough for me to monitor progress or need to work harder.

On the other hand, I did have a 6-month experiment when I was in my 20's, that I wasn't going to weigh in until my birthday. I would just practice healthy habits, and where my body was after 6 months of healthy habits, that's where it belonged. Lost 25 pounds, and my body showed that it really likes being at 141-ish.

It's before 5...and getting on the computer a little earlier than usual.......

Last day of my first week and excited to get on the scale tomorrow.....Or I may just decide to weigh in once a month since I want it to come off slowly....more than enough calories to finish out today...( 2,052).....todays challenge for me will be to actually not feel like I need to eat all of them today.........I thought the lasagna might be a diet buster but actually it just filled me up and stuck  with me.....but will wait and see how this plays out tomorrow.  When i stop eating tonight...any leftover calories are gone....and will start new with a new set for the next week.........need to decide rather to keep the same  9,800 for next week or lower it......right now thinking I may keep it here for another week......I didn't go crazy and binge and that's a good thing......managing right now is key for me.   Along with losing wt....I also need to deal with NOT using up all available calories and this week has gone well so far...that challenge will be mine to fight today........2,052 available today and I don't need that many)...this may be the most difficult day going forward........( I'm thinking that food boredom may just be my friend today...and that I should continue to repeat a lot of what I have eaten this week already)

Yup...decided to eat what I have been eating this week.......we still have most of that and I'm tiring of it...so that is a good thing.

Lunch was more leftover lasagna...D was the last one to remove some from the dish and he kind of mangled it...LOL....That was yesterday...so today I discover that.....I took out what I originally thought was about 500 cals worth...but after warmiong it up,,,I decided it was closer to 600....so that's fine...it sticks with me for hours......and a small serving for tomorrow is left...HA...I'll be glad when that's gone.

Lunch = lasagna = 600 cals


chicken salad, crackers and a kashi  blackberry graham bar  total = 340



Cals  today = 1,282

2,052 is available until midnight......minus 1,282...leaves 770 unused for this week...and I plan to leave it that way........no desire to use them....I've been working on not eating in the evenings if possible...and I'm working on passing up calories that will expire and not just using them because they are there.....just water this evening..

Great plan, Bear. Speaking of TV, been seeing ads for new medical drama called Transplant. Thought it was about organ transplants, but it features a Syrian doctor who sought asylum in Canada and was working in a restaurant as a dishwasher. A big truck crashes through the window and he saves several lives, including that of a hot shot surgeon by drilling a hole in his head to release blood. So this surgeon hires him. Very dramatic but well done. Just popped up on Hulu when I was continuing my ER binge, so watched the 2 available episodes

I bought a shared Hulu account on eBay for $5. It is good for 5 months. It’s the no ad version that costs, I think $12.99 a month, so huge savings. Would not pay nearly that much! But a dollar a month is ok. It has my 15 season ER’s.

Up really early today...coffee and D was watching Tv when i got up...we went to bed early last night so that contributed.

Today I have bank and post office things.........placed some grocery orders with Amazon.......Need to call sons today...one is dealing with a cold right now ( hopefully that is all it is)....the other one sent me an early birthday card yesterday...so will call and thank them for that and have a chat................They worry so much about us......it's makes me worry even more for them.   I don't want my kids to worry about me......That makes me feel bad for them.


Just coffee so far = 2

I found a Dollar Tree store about 25 minutes away yesterday...and it is amazing......picked up pkgs of bic lighters and pillar candles in glass........and was short on time so didn't get to walk around a lot.......but they also have shelf stable milk......I LOVE THIS STORE!!!!

Breakfast before I went was instant peach oatmeal = 30

Went and mailed some things at the post office, put gas in the car, did some banking and headed back to that Dollar Tree store I found yesterday...had time today to cruise the aisles...I LOVE that store!!....so I saw everything today...nice, clean, bright and pleasant ladies run it.......came home...gave everything a clorox wipe down......and setled in for lunch

Lunch = lasagna = 500 cals

Lots of that left...looks like a few days worth...LOLCalled the boys before I went....accidentally woke daughter in law up and then her work called her in to cover for someone with covid...so she was happy I woke her up...LOL........that son called me back to thank me for the call..( she as happy to work the day shift instead)....they are fine...oldest son still sick...and still working at Walmart......they check his temperature every day and feel he just has a cold...he does too........and he's improving..since he was a kid he has had chronic bronchitis which gives him a rough voice with a cold...and he sounds bad this last week but thankfully improving.

We used to have a £ pound shop I used to stop into but they closed down. Small town.

We go to bed at 9 and get up before 6. Same schedule we always had in the winter in Thailand because 6 am is nice and cool for a bike ride. And we kept the schedule this year when we came home. Hubby is naturally an early bird, I'm not, but got used to it.

I have to go to the next town for this store myself......we live in a Amish settlement..surrounded with state and federal forests......we have to always drive for shopping. We never got past that early rising for work thing....LOL

I have seen the shelf stable milk before and have never tried it. Do you find it stores well and how is the taste and is it good to use in anything you would use regular refrigerated milk for?

It's milk...It can be used like any other milk...I don't drink milk by the glass anymore but I do use it in cereal and cooking and it's fine....I bought Vigo brand rice there today for a dollar and I had already ordered it from amazon...and paid considerably more...we will use it all...but that is a good deal at DT........lots of good deals.....They do require masks here...actually every place here does....I don't wear gloves...but I so use hand sanitizer when I get back in the car....and on the steering wheel and start button....I no longer carry a purse..I wear a light weight jacket with good deep pockets and I keep my credit card, and drivers license...i n one pocket...and my phone and car fob in the other.....so when i get home...i wash all things in pockets and my jacket and mask....and I'm not exposing my purse to the germs anymore.....I kind of like it...1 less thing to worry about......Once you open the milk you do need to refrigerate it.

Thanks for the milk info. I had been buying powdered milk at the grocery store and it is good, too. Like you, I don't drink it by the cup or glass but consume it in what I use it in like banana pudding or biscuits, etc. I leave my pocketbook in my vehicle I drive and only take in my cash or debit card in a small see-through plastic thingy. Wash my clothes when I get home, clean everything bought, I reuse my N95 mask and plastic gloves I wear and I wash them and let them dry overnight, wash my cellphone outer case that I wear on my pants pocket, spray the bottoms of my shoes with disinfectant, etc. Thanks again for the DT milk info. I will have to get some and try it.

That's very interesting about the shelf-stable milk. I've only vaguely heard about such a thing. Now I learn you can get it at the local DT - go figure!

I've stopped carrying a purse lately too. In my college days, I did not carry a purse. Everything was in the pockets. This may be one change with COVID that stays with me.

PS I wanted to follow up to something I said a couple of days ago, and I've just been too busy and too distracted to get back to you on. And that is, that I too see this plan working for you long-term as well. I didn't mean to imply that you wouldn't follow this way for a while - or forever.

It is the easiest plan for me...it gives me a lot of leeway...and has been the way i lost before......I think because i made it up myself...I somehow think that I should switch to some formal way like WW.....or low carb....but this just suits me...I know these last few will be hard...so that's why I'm giving it a year.....but I need to just continue doing this forever I guess.

Actually went and did some errands this morning on the spur of the moment...will have to go out again tomorrow because I didn't get all of them done.


Very hungry and wanting protein...so I had a heavy protein lunch.

salami = 420 cals

2 slices sprouted whole grain bread = 120

peanut butter 2 T = 192

1 teaspoon honey = 22 cals

Butter 1 T = 102


1,228 cals so far today

I made a lasagna and it's in the oven...D will like that later as will .....I can see a high cal day here and that's just fine...I've had lower cal days so far and I have enough left until midnight wednesday.......so this looks like my splurge day...not that i have them every week...but just sayin!!!  LOL

Lasagna = 400 cals

Total for the day so far is 1,628

Tea = 0

Crystal light packet in the tea...really good = 0


So...no more food planned for the day...started the day with 4,652

Done eating for the day so 3, 024 cals left for Tuesday and Wednesday.....no starving days this week......!!!!

Slept well...up at 4:30

Loving this weekly calorie process again....while I have done this in the past...I feel like  I have a lot more control of it this time.  I would really like to reach 115 without having to have any zero calorie days...I can see this working again but I can also see this being a good means of maintenance this time...in the past I was eager to stop it...so far...not this time...I think it could be a easy way of life now...because somehow it's effortless this time.  My days of "dieting" are over......they are frustrating and make me think about food too much...think about bingeing too much and think about quitting too much.......this has become a way of life and is so different.  I'm also liking the simple daily rules and i think they are helping me create some new habits

I'm so glad to hear that this is working for you. Trying to think ahead - when you find you want a change, or to take a break from this approach - don't let the pounds come back. As long as you keep moving forward, that's the main thing.

But this may be exactly what works for you! It seems to be a good approach for you!

It is the easiest losses I have ever had....and it's really comfortable to do...because it allows me to vary my calories as I want to....it's a winner for me.

Building new habits by not being so strict with actual hours, minutes, etc...has made this easy too....and I'm noticing that I'm spending longer each day on the things other than diet...so it's all getting easier...I've tried the schedules...the time limits...etc...but that is fine for when I was at work ( I like rules)...but when I'm at home I do like to wing it a bit more...I really don't want to make home be like a job...tried that too...didn't make me happy!

generally speaking, my days of crazy bingeing have passed also, BEAR! it's a wonderful feeling. it's nice to be able to know that as long as all the food groups are being eaten, moderately, we DO feel satisfied!and you have a nice mix of a variety of food!

I agree HOP....the more rounded my diet...the less cravings I have....and I've come to accept that carbs/sugar need to be a regular part of my meals so that I don't binge on them other times......Loose rules are also helping me..making them strict brings on the desire to quit.....loose rules ( or more accurately guidelines)...have made me want to do more.

Slept well....got up early....sounds like rain hitting the metal roof right now....so it's a cold rain.......i found a tree that had turned red yesterday...so we are on our way with the colors........

I had forgotten how much I LOVED the weekly calories instead of the daily.......it takes all pressure off and no food rebellion......I find I'm not taking advantage of it ( so far).....and it is just a comfy place to be when it comes to food.  The old tried and true.

1.  Read something DONE

2.  Prep something DONE

3.  Clean something DONE

4.  Exercise, do anything...but do it. DONE

5.  Keep the TV off until the evening DONE

6.  Eat to lose

5 A.M. = coffee =2 cals

6:30 A.M. = leftover alfredo noodles with peas.....i've been thinking about those since I put the leftovers in the fridge yesterday so decided they would be my breakfast...because If I actually ate breakfast foods then I would end up eating the noodles too anyway....so.....158 cals

9:30A.M. = leftover pork chop = 196

1:00 P.M.

Schwans chicken pot pie = 630

Broccoli and cauliflower = 20

2/3rd cup blueberries = 60


So far 1,006 cals

7, 238 left until next thursday

4:30 cup of lemon tea = 0

2 mini bags of Ritz crisp and thin crackers = 180

For me 1,500 is maintenance....so I'm going for 1,400 a day times 7....(9,800).....if I don't see results after a few weeks I will lower it more.....

I also really like it because it lets me eat more on hungry days and not feel guilty...and keeps me from eating more on days I'm NOT hungry but eating to reach the days goal........I do vary day to day when it comes to hunger.....so it works well for me and has allowed me to diet easily.

Ahh the fall colors are coming. I noticed yesterday, on my brief walk, that the leaves of the black walnut trees are starting to turn yellow. I think/thought that this might be due to the lack of rain we had for 3 weeks or so. Now it's been raining for over a week!

That's funny to read that you were thinking of leftovers the minute you put them away. I do that too! Usually for me, though, I don't want them for breakfast. I'm just not a big breakfast person. But, oh what motivation it is to have something yummy to anticipate for lunch or dinner!

Only one tree here has turned...and it's a small one....but we are on our way to the colors......I think fall is the most beautiful time and really look forward to it. Raining here now too. I can truly eat anything for breakfast and do...I have often said that it's a good thing I don't have a taste for alcohol because I'm sure that would be fair game too... D is stuck in a breakfast rut...he has the same thing day in and day out.....he has finally gotten over the shock of what I eat...LOL

I calculated what I think will work for me. 8,400 a week (or 1,000 x 3, 1200 x 2 and 1500 x 2). I'll try it a week from now because I'm not counting next week.

For some reason it's super easy this time...so far...no struggle.....and so far...i'm keeping the evening eating under control...and eliminating a lot of it ( bonus there is more hours without eating in a row ( fast)
