Day 64 was 0 for 2 for my routine--good breakfast and walk. Days 65, 66 & 67 were 1 for 2--walk only. Day 68 was 0 for 2 for my routine. Didn't do any of my planned activity on Tuesday.

I'm going to try to renew my commitment to change as the days go on--broken record . . . broken record . . . broken record! I have taken a long walk several days this week--that's something!

I went to buy gas to finish mowing and what did I see in the ice cream case--Starbucks Mud Pie. I'll try anything once. It's like a drug dammit! It's not huge like a Dove Bar. It's expensive, premium coffee ice cream in an easy-to-eat form and just my size--haha!

I don't seek these things out. But after I realized I just had to have another, I found them at Walgreens for about half the price of the convenience store, so there are two of them in my freezer right now. The good thing about things like this is that I get them out of my "craving" system over time. Then I can take them or leave them, so I figure after I've had about a dozen or so in total, I'll be okay!

Yesterday in Texas History: On this date (12 May) in 1942, construction began on a German prisoner of war camp some twelve miles northeast of Huntsville in northeastern Walker County. This construction also marked the origins of the town of Country Campus. The POW camp had a capacity to house 4,800 men, providing housing and medical facilities, a clothing shop, barbershop, laundry, bakery, cafeteria, commissary, gymnasium, guardhouse, fire station, and motor pool. In addition, clubs for both officers and enlisted personnel were provided. Prisoners held at the camp were leased as laborers to local farmers. The camp was deactivated on January 25, 1946, and the property was donated by the government to Sam Houston State Teachers College (later Sam Houston State University) and renamed the Sam Houston Country Campus. The buildings were adapted to serve as dormitories, administrative offices, classrooms, and recreational facilities. Buses shuttled students between the country and main campuses. A post office was established at the site in 1948, and a year later the community reported a population of 1,000. By 1964, however, when the post office closed, the town reported 425 residents and one business. In the 1980s some of the old buildings, a golf course, and pastureland remained at the site. Country Campus in 1990 comprised sixty residents.

BTW, Country Campus is an odd name for a town--sounds like a Barbie doll town to me--haha. But I suppose if you're going to create a German POW camp it sounds really great--like you really mean business--haha! Apparently today it's the name of a local golf course there.

I wonder if the camp you described is the one I saw on some TV channel. It was a fascinating tale and the result was that many Germans who had been interned there and who were interviewed for the program ended up becoming American citizens! They were totally mind-boggled that they should receive such good treatment!

I'm up a pound on my weigh-in. And of course I'm up on my measurements. Bear with me here--I just have to remind myself how far afield I am: Since 27 February I'm up 10 pounds, and up a total of nearly 6.5 inches overall (RArm: .4 :: RLeg: 1.1 :: RCalf: .25 :: Hip: 1.25 :: Bust: .75 :: Waist: 1.4 :: Wrist: .1 :: Abd: 1.25). Unfortunately my belly precludes me from wearing all my old shorts. Aging, eating with abandon and not being very active has taken its toll.

And my body really seems to like itself at 163-4-5-6-7 . . . I learned that a long time ago. It gravitates to the 160s when I don't fight back with a vengeance. Of course with time it would like the 170s and beyond as well:-)

I'm in a sort of limbo. Again. I'll have to redouble my effort to get back in the swing once again. I'm going to fight like hell to get back. And I have to keep reminding myself that making just a little more effort WILL make a difference. And if I continue NOT making that effort, where will I be in 3 months?

I have just about killed myself working on broken limbs from a storm last week and the week before, and the wind wasn't even that bad. I think it was mostly from too much rain at one time, which overtook the new growth, weighed the limbs down and they simply broke. It involved alot of walking as well, but not purposeful except in the overall effort. Oh well, the lesson is that hard work never killed anyone--did it? I was sooo sore for a couple of days there. I still have just a bit more to do, but I think I'll be okay. I have no lingering effect soreness-wise.

Day 57 was 0 for 2 for my routine--good breakfast and walk. Day 58 was 1 for 2--breakfast only. Days 59, 60, 61, & 62 were 0 for 2 for my routine. Day 63 was 1 for 2--walk only.

Kinda old now, but still interesting--everything you may ever want to know about Cinco de Mayo: It commemorates the Mexican defeat of the French in the Battle of Puebla in Mexico in 1862. Puebla is the state in Mexico where it is most celebrated today. Essentially France was coming to get payment of debts owed by Mexico (Spain and England had settled their Mexican debt), Ignacio Zaragoza and his army defeated them after a day (or 4 hours depending on which account you believe) and the rest is history--let's eat--haha!

Apparently it isn't well-celebrated throughout Mexico. Probably the reason it is celebrated alot in Texas is that Zaragoza was born in Hidalgo, Texas. It is NOT Mexican Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16 (1810, independence from Spain, not the US and the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence not the end).

While looking this up (as an aside) I learned that the poet responsible for the Mexican National Anthem wrote it after his fianc� locked him in a room. It took him 4 hours.

Now it seems odd that it would be so widely celebrated, especially when it is mentioned around here, no one explains what it is. Could it be because "Cinco de Mayo" just sounds good? The official name of Mexican Independence Day by contrast is "El Grito de Dolores." Which to me sounds like Grits of Dolores, which of course it's not, it means "Cry of Dolores" (village of Dolores, state of Queretero).

A little consumer info: I thought I'd try the "Pam for Grilling" and kill two birds with one stone--use it for regular cooking as well. No go! It didn't work well at all on my microwaved egg/whites as the usual "Pam" does. In fact it actually made the eggs stick! I'll probably take it back.

One thing is for sure...you sure are getting PLENTY of exercise with all that work you've been doing!!! Glad to hear you are back on track! I know you can get back to your 150 you were in November! Yes, it is 'comfy' to be a little overweight...it is EASY to get used to...putting on clothes and trying not to notice the little 'roll' around the waist, etc...but I saw a video of myself recently, having put on weight since the accident and I decided to 'get with it'...I've learned, which you know this that I can be FULL AND SATISFIED each day by 'eating smart'...think I might write a book called 'EAT SMART', btw...been thinking of doing that and I love to write, too...it's just as easy to eat smart as it is to not eat smart...and it 'looks' better, hehehe! Thanks for the info you shared with us...I didn't know it, but I'd heard about Cinco De Mayo and didn't know what it meant...

Thanks for the tip on Spurlock's other programs which I didn't know anything about. I will check it out. I still can't believe it took 3 years before I was able to access Super Size It!

Although I never would have been able to eat at McD's 3 times a day, it would have been very easy at Checkers, esp. those chemical filled shakes.

I think there really is something to developing a craving for these "bad" foods that taste so good. I remember very clearly craving a Checker's burger and fries after school, just three hours + after having the same at lunchtime. And I wondered WHY I couldn't lose weight!

I totally agree with your comments today on BTC's diary about decaf. Caffeine is THE reason to drink coffee. I know I'm addicted to caffeine, and after unsuccessfully trying to rid myself of hit, embrace it totally. It's just one of those things! Without caffeine, I'd just sleep my life away. On the one weekend when I really tried, I couldn't stay away more than a half hour and would go back to sleep.

A "pick me up" is an understatement describing the effect of caffeine. I NEED it to stay conscious!

I guess I got hooked from drinking at least 4 Pepsi's a day as a child. At that time, no one talked about caffeine and I don't think it was generally known that soda contained it. Decaf sodas were not available. It's not an issue with me any more because I don't have a 'taste' for sweet drinks.

I'm up a half-pound for my weigh-in on Tuesday. I have been writing down my food, but have slacked off of tracking on Fitday--with disastrous (though not surprising) consequences. I know I've been eating alot--an absolutely ugly amount in fact! On the other hand I just gave myself that shot to jog that first 15 min last Saturday just to see if I could do it--it was a relative breeze and a (good) shock that finished it--haha!

Gotta climb up from this hole I've found myself in. I must be religious about getting on here, otherwise there's no hope from here on out. I do think I'll be okay if I can be even a little bit more consistent and then continue to build on things. There were a couple of days there where I wasn't really too sure, but now I feel like I'll make it!

Days 45-53 were a mixed bag for my routine--good breakfast and walk.

Day 45 was 1 for 2 for my routine. Walk only. Days 47 & 49 were 2 for 2 for my routine. The rest were 0 for 2.

Can't go back, so I must try to move forward. In the spirit of trying to do one thing at a time, I have once again been trying to cut down on my caffeine by limiting it to 2 cups of coffee per day. I do really well that way with sleep and everything else. So yesterday was the start of lower caffeine intake, and I had the withdrawal headache of course.

I've had 6 days over 3000 calories in the last 10 days, but I've also not completely abandoned my exercise. I actually got 7.5 hours sleep last night. And I really need to make a trip to the grocery store.

sleep is a godsend. whenever i get the right amount of sleep, my eating habits improve 100 percent. whenever i'm lacking on sleep, my body always looks to food as an alternative energy source.

a similiar situation is the grocery store. whenever i stock up on healthy foods, its becomes 100 percent easier to eat healthy...all the food is available already in my house!

Do you have decaffeinated coffee at all? I got hooked on coffee a while back (after avoiding it for years) and weaned myself off it by gradually substituting decaf. I know some people don't like the taste, but I couldn't really tell the difference...

I'm speechless. I didn't expect a loss, but I didn't expect 3 pounds, be it water, lean body weight or anything else. I'm moving on from here. It can be my "wake-up call" or whatever. I'm not going to continue on like this. Period.

I didn't get any planned activity yesterday, which led to me skipping out on the Circuit and subsequently everything else. Using the carpet cleaner taxed one shoulder just enough that I knew my weightlifting workout would have been substandard. At least I can still listen to my body:-)

I am pleased that I got in some good activity for 3 days in a row for a change.

Now, let me dedicate this entry to everyone who reads, but never joins in, to you who haven't updated in awhile because you've gained weight and you feel like you've failed. People! We're all in the same boat.

I'm sure there are some who think I'm simply beating my head up against a wall by continuing, that's okay! I think I know the alternative (though I'm not going to test it by giving up). Knowing what I know in the brief (haha) time I've been on DDs--I'm pretty sure it's TOTAL failure. I really detest having to admit I've gained back to this point, but I also haven't done the hard work to get a better result.

Join us if you're out there lurking--we don't bite! And if you haven't updated in awhile, let us know how you're doing. There can be alot of power in accountability to a group like this. Give it a try if you haven't, but want to--or come back and update!

Its not total failure, its just severe difficulty!

Sometimes I think there is no rhyme or reason to the weight that people lose or gain. Sometimes it seems like the pounds are able to just completely ignore the rules of nature.

At least you know that no matter what your weight does, as long as you get in some activity and healthy foods that you are keeping your body in good healthy condition. :-)

Hi biscotti! A 3 lb gain wouldn't surprise me in the least, even overnight! Let's hope some of it is water weight so it comes off quickly.

Thanks for giving a shout out to all our absentee friends (Liza36? I'm talking about YOU!). As long as we're still here and trying, well, we're still maintaining, at least within a certain range. I know I haven't lost as much as almost everyone else here, but I'm proud to say that despite all my fluctuations I've never given up completely and let myself get as out of shape as I was when I started. Whereas I really do believe that if left to my own devices I would probably have been slowly gaining weight all these years like everyone else in the world. Of course it's tempting to just let oneself go, but really, is it worth the price? Do we love food that much? I don't want to believe that I do!

getting activity into my day has always illustrated and proven by the end of the week how much stronger my body gets. meaning, i can tell the difference in my body tone for a week of successful exercise vs. a week of successful couch potatoing. it seems you are back on track...and carpet cleaning!

That's a very inspirational entry, and it's so true about group motivation. That's interesting about the brewer's yeast, I hadn't heard that. I'm not sure how that would be sprinkled on food (I know the nutritional yeast is supposed to be tastier, but probably doesn't have the same effect). I'll have to look into the tablets!

For my activity lately:
Fri: NordicTrack 32 min/3.3 mi
Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed & Thurs: Nothing

Days 25-31 were 0 for 2 for my routine. (Again good breakfast/walk constitutes the "routine.") Counted calories, etc last Friday--consumed about 3000. I've been writing down my food with the intention of tracking it, but just haven't. And my water intake has been next to nil as well.

So today is another new beginning. Yeah, another one hahaha!

How sucky was my weigh-in on Tuesday? Pretty bad. I've gotta get this not-wanting-to-exercise, not-wanting-to-make-good-choices monkey off my back.

Where I'm at right now . . . is reminding myself that even though I have backslid in alot of ways my core strength is consistently better than it has been in awhile, like years. I don't have a stiff neck/shoulder every 6 weeks to 2 months--in fact it's been eliminated for all intents and purposes--a big thing!

On the negative, I'm still at a bit of a crossroads with my eating. Given the choice I make pretty crummy choices. And I'm not jogging as regularly as I would like--last time I jogged was March 7th and before that February 20th, so I'll be having to deal with a bit of rust. These two things require vigilance on a regular basis. Sounds easy--as we know it's just not THAT easy. Once again it seems boring, but if boring is what it takes to get me on track, I'm willing to give it a go. AGAIN!

Recently I found a couple of very motivational losers who also got very fit in their processes. One is a woman in her late 50s. And the other is a man in his late 30s. It's a good reminder that when I myself am in a groove, things are moving and happening, so ultimately it's not boring at all! And it's what I want for me, fitness above all! I have no care to wear a size 4 or weigh 110 or even 120. If I end up in the 140s and am fit, that'll be good enough for me.

Welcome to Soonie's world of New Beginnings! Lol At least we keep on starting over and not just giving up! We seem to have the same goals--if I could see the 140's again, I'd be ecstatic! If this were easy, we'd all be skinny, so get started and hang in there!

It's over 20 years since i saw the 140s. To tell you the truth I'd settle for 150 !!! At least you are fitter than you used to be so that's a good thing :0)
