I'm up a half-pound on my weigh-in. I did my measurements and I'm up .75 inch overall. I realistically changed my goal weight here.

The Routine Thing: Starting today it's a good breakfast and a walk. Those are two things that I hope I can call non-negotiable in time--I'm not imposing a time frame for compliance. I'm a work in progress:-)

Not to rub it in or anything but our weather is supposed to stay in the 70s F (20s C) for the next week at least. And we move forward 1 hour on March 11, so that's a plus for everyone in the US observing Daylight Saving Time.

There is wisdom in turning as often as possible from the familiar to the unfamiliar: it keeps the mind nimble, it kills prejudice, and it fosters humor. --George Santayana

For my activity:
Fri, Sat and Sun: Nothing

I'm up on my Saturday weigh-in for what it's worth. ::will update numbers in a bit::

It's still pretty odd to not be counting days. So I'm going to do something about it.

Day counting strikes again! I'll count 141 days (starting Tuesday) with the purpose of honing a few routines for myself. I can use some routine right about now! I generally equate "routine" with boring, bland and a way I'd never want to be or to be described.

Be that as it may the time may have come for me to go the way of dogs, children, George W Bush and old;-) people. So I asked myself the other day, "They all seem to thrive on routine, so why can't I do so as well?" At least my one 80ish yr old neighbor seems to thrive on it. So does my dog--this I KNOW FOR SURE:-) I must say that my hands are sweaty and my heart is palpitating at the thought of it--haha!

Having said all that, of course I have certain routines or rituals that I engage in EVERY day. I may just want to test my limits in a way I haven't before. Really what I want though is to be in the mid-range of a healthy (non-overweight) BMI. Is that too much to ask?

Hey look at that fish out of water! It looks like me! No kidding here--I'm not where I want to be by a long shot, but I sure don't want to keep backsliding. There's no question I need these longish spates of no great activity--and this one is over! It's time to get down to it!

Plan for today: Circuit workout, NTrack, walk

Have a good day!

Your entries makes me smile hehe :) Its like you have this hidden humour that you portray in ways you dont even realize, really enjoyable :) I also love the quote, should print it out and paste it to my Arabian cupboard wall lol! Good luck with the onset of the routine again. Sometimes its the best way to go.

borntocry on 03/06/2007:
Routines... I also have this desire to think of myself as some kind of spontaneous, whimsical person even though I'm actually the complete opposite. Hence my reluctance to plan out what I'm going to eat beforehand, and my choice to keep a stash of packaged snacks at work rather than bring lunch from home (this way, if "something comes up", I can change my plans without worrying that the food I brought in will go bad). I would also love to be the type of person that just decides to go out for a jog or a round of tennis on a nice day. But I've found that when it comes to exercise, routine is quite important for me. On days when I have no fixed exercise in mind, I tend to put it off until I've had dinner, it's too late, etc. I've found that it's best to just have a fixed time for it in my schedule and just do it without thinking too much about it.

Day 365 was good! Didn't get in my run/walk, but I'm planning it again for today.

Ah, the end of my counting days (Monday), and if it helped keep me somewhat on track it was worth doing. I'm just glad I don't have to list my weight as 169.5 like I did a year ago. I'm not at the lows for weight or measurements, but I feel sure I'll get there and beyond--nothing like blind optimism--haha!

Weighed in on Tuesday and weight's the same, probably will weigh in again on Saturday. Knowing myself I'll probably have to come up with some kind of gimmick to keep me posting. A few personal challenges every so often or something. We'll see!

I didn't do calories, etc Tues or Wed. Will get back to it today. The only activity I had for Tues was changing the battery in my car--it must weigh about 15 or 20 pounds, maybe I'll weigh the old one just to see. All I know is it's pretty heavy! And I had it in backwards the first time, so I had to lift it at least twice and then mess around and contort myself to get a metal piece out that had fallen in around the platform the battery sits on. I was exhausted by the time I was finished and it was about 80F (26C) that day.

Measurements, which are all less than they were 1 yr ago and all down nearly 9.5 inches total:
RtArm: About 1 in
RtLeg: About 1.5 in
RtCalf: About .5 in
Hips: About 2 in
Bust: 1 in
Waist: 1.75 in
RtWrist: About .1 in
Abd: About 2 in

Body Fat: 29% (from 33%)

Here's the body fat test I used: Health Central Home Body Fat Test. It's simply a go-by for me--in lieu of a "real" test.

Plan for today: Circuit workout, NTrack, run/walk

Have a good day!

1469 cal * 43g Fat * 26g Fiber * 56 oz Water
984 cal Deficit * 7% Activities

Great job on lossing 9.5 inches, and loosing 4% body fat!! Did you just go and buy the "Home Body Fat Test"?? I'll have to look that up! Your weather sounds beautiful!! My daughter's school bus is cancelled this morning because we have a storm coming in this afternoon, I hope its the last for this winter!!

Thank you for your comments, my Mom is doing really good. The day she had the surgery she said she could already see so much better out of that eye. When she went to her doctors appointment she was able to read a few lines more on the letter chart so she was excited about that!! A few more weeks and she gets to do it all over again on the other eye!

Enjoy your work out today, have a good one!

Justine6Robert3 on 03/01/2007:
Thank-you for the helpful info. I went and checked it out. I compared my measurements from 2 months ago (when I started this) to my current measurements and I was very pleased with the results, inch loss really is important!!

borntocry on 03/01/2007:
That car battery thing does sound like a good workout. I feel the same way about lugging 20 lb of grocery bags home when I go shopping. I definitely can't lift weights after that!

Thanks for the comment you left me. Yes, I had often noticed your occasional scathing comments to other people and wondered how come I'd never been on the receiving end. But I guess my time has come. You're right, I was being way too self-indulgent the other day with my talk of letting everyone down. I guess I knew people would feel obliged to write: "that's not true, don't say that about yourself!" but I just needed to hear it anyway, you know? I know, I know, we're all responsible for own self-esteem but sometimes I could use a little reassurance, heh.

But you're right - I do seem to get myself into this situation on a regular basis. I think that's what was so depressing about it - I feel like it's a neverending dilemma. I think I need to learn how to make decisions and stick by them instead of doubting myself all the time. So I've decided when I'm going to visit my brother next and I'm not going to let myself be swayed by any protests from either him or my husband.

Thanks for your advice!

shoelady on 03/01/2007:

Day 363 was pretty damn good! Didn't get in my walk.

Weighed in today on a whim--down a pound! I need this. I had a really excellent food day yesterday--the first in a month of Sundays. I visualize myself on an even keel now. Yes, one day does not a success make, but it's a new start anyway:-)

Now for the weather report: We had a rare dust storm yesterday! You know it's happening because the sunny sky begins looking fairly odd. Sort of like a thunderstorm is coming but a little more eerie and unfamiliar. If you're out in it the visibility begins to get worse. I've lived in Texas my entire life and have experienced at least a half-dozen dust storms in 40 years, so it takes you by surprise when it happens. I've never lived in West Texas where they originate and are a little more prevalent.

This one ended up being pretty minor--I remember one when I was little where we had left the windows open and had been gone the afternoon of a dust storm followed by rain. There was red mud on all the window sills when we got home. Once I was caught in one, which was so bad it was more like a sand storm. I was walking home from some kind of practice--band or something--and I had no choice but to walk home, which took at least a half-hour. I had dirt caked in my scalp, my shoes, my ears and nose and I was wearing contact lenses--it was quite a rough trip home!

Plan for today: NTrack, run/walk

Have a good day!

I think I would like to see a mild to moderate dust storm. Not to be driving in one, no thanks, but just to see what it's like. We here up north had snow. Wet, heavy, icy snow. At least you can't shovel dust, I assume.

Keep up the good work and have fun on your run/walk!

borntocry on 02/25/2007:
Yeah, I used to live in Saudi Arabia, and we had crazy dust storms all the time over there. It was quite eerie at first... but we got used to it.

Justine6Robert3 on 02/26/2007:
Very interesting, a dust storm. That is something we definetly wouldn't see here, it sounds like it would be something to see from inside a house!! That must have been unpleasant trying to get all of that dirt out of your hair, nose and ears when you got caught in that dust storm years ago!!!

I hope you had a great run!

Day 362 was awful. At least it's over and I am regrouping. I'm powerless over snack crackers:-) That's not really funny, but they do "feed" my overeating. My appetite yesterday seemed to be from the depths of hell!

My day counting ends after Monday--whew! I started it to keep me showing up here, which worked--what a year!

I'm with you on the crackers. I have been doing okay at staying away from snack crackers lately although sneaking little tastes of chips is really been a problem for me!!! However, I made the mistake of packing my daughters lunches in the evening last week ( which is my weakest time with the "willpower" and urge to snack). I ended up taking little nibbles of the crackers and cheese I was preparing for her lunch snacks. I'm going to try to pack her lunch right after dinner when I'm full!!!

I didn't have a great day yesturday either for the calorie intake! I really find I do the worst on the week-ends. Maybe because I'm staying up later at night and that's when we usually give the kids their "treats" such as chips.

I love that you are able to have a bad day and just have a positive attitude the next and just get back at it!! Your plans for exercise today sound Great! I can't wait until the weather is nice so I can get outside for some exercise!

Hope you have a great day today and a nice run tomorrow!

LOVE Humphrey's quote. He was as liberal as arch-conservative Wm Buckley is. I'll never forget an interview with Buckley in which he related how he happened to be on the same flight as Humphrey and how Humphrey was of such help to the "stewardesses" (it's that long ago!). I can't remember what the situation was, but what I do remember was how in awe it left Buckley to see Hubert in action and his feeling of what a wonderful person he was. I swear, he relived his amazement in the interview. You couldn't ask for a better endorsement than from a political arch-enemy!

Justine6Robert3 on 02/22/2007:
Thank-you for your comment a couple of days ago. That is a good idea to see if they can check my body fat. I'm not sure if they will just do it for me or if they will insist on booking me in for a full fitness evaluation. I would be curious to see where I'm at right now body fat wise to see if and where I should make adjustments. I would also love a personal trainer so they could give me specific exercise geared to my body type and problem areas. Ofcourse a personal trainer is rather costly and I think they would also want to charge me for the fitness evaluation!! Unfortunetly I don't have the extra money for all of that right now but maybe later. My entire family is in my sister's upcoming wedding so between dresses, tuxedo's, hair, wedding and shower gifts, I just don't have an extra right now. I'm still waiting to win the lottery, aren't we all!!!

Good job getting some exercise in today even if you didn't get the walk in!

I like the Humphrey quote!
