(Exercise/Shoot for 2000 cal per day/84 oz Water)
Weight: 167.0

Start: 189 (June 2001)
Low: 150.5 (Jan 2004)
Current BMI=28.7; My Realistic BMI Goal=22.8

For my activity: NordicTrack 31 min/3.1 mi; 2 min of ab work; Walk 10 min

For Day 1 of my Tue-Sat challenge (1900 cal, 84 oz water, and 10% of calories burned from exercise), I only met the exercise goal. Two minutes of abs doesn't sound like much, but it just about did me in--and I do abs on my Circuit Day. I did it more to try to be mindful than anything else.

Cheers to you all!

Hi biscottibody,

You almost met your calorie goal, though. Not bad!

Maybe I should try to come up with some sort of Sat-Sun challenge for myself, as that's when I tend to go crazy and undo a whole week's good work. I like your method of aiming to burn a certain percentage of your calorie intake through exercise... maybe I should do something like that too. Although I'm afraid that I'd just use it as an excuse not to exercise (on days when I've kept my calories down) or to eat more (on days when I've done a lot of exercise)!

For my activity: NordicTrack 33 min/3.8 mi;
Jog 20 min (6-14)/Walk 15 min

I'm slowly chipping away--my measurements are down by a half-inch overall. And I can nearly button (comfortably) my size 10 shorts. I'm doing a Tue-Sat challenge of 1900 cal, 84 oz water, and continuing on with exercise to get at least 10% of calories burned from exercise.

Cheers to you!

For my activity lately:
Thurs 10.20: Circ Aer Wkt using Airdyne (22 min/4.9 mi);
Walk 15 min
Fri 10.21: Jog 20 min (10-10)/Walk 20 min
Sat 10.22: Nothing
Sun 10.23: Circ Aer Wkt using NordicTrack (30 min/3.1 mi)

I did okay on that short challenge. I pretty much had a meltdown foodwise on Saturday, but all in all I'm doing okay. And I got in all my scheduled circuit weight work--woo-hoo!

Cheers to you!

Hi, Biscotti! Thanks for your comment! My sister actually has Celiac sprue, so I was tested for it...and the doctors don't seem to think that's a problem for me. BUT, I sometimes wonder, as the medical system here in Asia has screwed up before...so I'm trying to cut back on gluten and dairy just to see if that makes a difference! I know that Celiac disease can run in families, so maybe I am prone to that...

For Tues-Thurs challenge I met all goals--cal, water, and deficit. I feel like I'm doing well so far--just a week of semi-consistency helps. Looking in the mirror at my belly just devastates me--but I will conquer it.

I put some shorts on that were loose a while ago. They had gotten to where I couldn't wear them comfortably. Unfortunately that wasn't enough of a sign to get me to start turning my weight gain around. Well I put them on and they were snug but I was literally pouring out of the waistband. Made me see just how deeply I was in denial! Damn!

Cheers to you!

For Tues-Thurs challenge I met all goals--cal, water, and deficit. I feel good so far. I am still a little sore from the weight work on Sunday. And I tried jogging and other than my calves cramping a bit, I did fine. It had been 2 weeks since my self-imposed jogging break. I think I'll restrict myself to skipping 2 days between jogging. It's too easy to succumb to the pitfall of, "I did thus and such much exercise and so I can eat tons of food." I don't really do that with anything but jogging.

Have a good food day!

Hi biscottibody,

Thanks for your comment. Looks like you're doing pretty well with your goals. Keep it up!

I also have a problem keeping my calories down on the days I go running/jogging. However in my case the problem isn't that I feel justified in eating more afterwards, but that I feel like I have to eat more beforehand. It's like I'm scared I'll run out of energy (no pun intended!) halfway through and collapse or something. Of course that's never actually happened to me or anyone I know, but I still feel like I have to be well-fortified with snacks before I go running.

Still, I think it's worth it to keep my fitness level up!

geevee on 10/19/2005:
Good going on the fiber and water. I've found that having a lot of fiber really helps in holding my huge appetite at bay.

It's reassuring to know that I'm not alone in making a VERY short stop at goal weight and then promptly going up, only to continue fighting to get back! I've been in this battle for months now as you well know. The positive is that I've contained the problem to just a few pounds so that I'm able to say that I'm in the small minority of those dieters who can stay within five pounds of their goal weight after a year. I'm now starting my second year. Crucial time!

mummypod on 10/20/2005:
Hiyaaaa!

I guess it did sound a bit confusing *s*.

I originally counted calories when I started this journey 18 months ago... the usual fat and carb counting too, but now I generally eat pretty much the same amounts per day from week to week and the only changes are ones outside my home and that is when I try and 'treat' myself. Then it's back to the usual routine the next day.

I am trying to not have to worry about calories depending on the exercise I do, I am like others and find exercise and my classes so enjoyable I just do them and keep the calories approximately the same, that way I know I won't be too far out of control lol

Plus I really haven't got the patience to look through and write them all down, so that is why I pretty much eat the same things all the time. If I didn't lose weight on a regular basis then I would definitely go back to calorie counting and work out my exercise expenditure too.

I hope that explains it a bit more lol

Take care Kim xxx

For my activity: Circ Aer Wkt using NordicTrack 33 min/3.4 mi

4-Day Challenge (Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon) with the above goals (calories and water). Results for Day 4: met goal for water but not the calories.

Will continue with the goals, but the the one thing I'm adding is a 700 cal deficit for Tues-Thurs. I'm going to try to stay vigilant with the food--writing it in my little notebook, etc.

This thing below is a snapshot of my weight graph from Fitday, which I thought kinda looked like a rough sketch of a skyline instead of a graph. On another note I took my measurements, which I hadn't done for quite a while. I'm up (overall) a little over 8 inches from about a year ago. Yikes!

Gotta go and try on those shorts--they're 10s--I'd love to be a "solid" 10 by the new year--meaning no 12s or above.

Have a good exercise day!

geevee on 10/18/2005:
You're down a pound! That's good.

Looking at your graph, it seems that when you reached your goal you didn't stay at it very long. Is that right, or is it that it's coincidental that you started going up after you had been there for awhile?

When I reached my goal I stayed there for about half the time during a two month period. I never was at my goal EVERY single day, and after a couple of months skirting on and off it, it disappeared.

Hi biscottibody,

Good job meeting your calorie and water goals. It looks like it's working, too!

Thanks so much for the kind and understanding comment you left me in my last entry. It really meant a lot to me.

geevee on 10/17/2005:
I'm glad to hear that you're back on track. It's SO easy to get off yet SO difficult to get back on. It's just like my yoga lapse. You were so astute to notice how remiss Ive been since May! The same with the gym equipment. I walk through the area everyday on my way to the locker room yet haven't done anything! The funny thing is that when I use the machines, I enjoy it! I love the elliptical except for the boredom factor. Maybe if I find a good recorded book that will give me the incentive to use it again.

That's great that you are making your goals, but why not exercise???

StringBean on 10/16/2005:
I have a question about your deficit. (I wrote an entry with the same question today.) To get the deficit, do you just subtract your calories (and exercise calories burned) from the number of calories you'd need to take in to maintain? I hope this makes sense... I'm confusing myself here! If you can help explain, I'd really appreciate it!
