When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal.

Thursday's exercise: NordicTrack 1 hr, 16 min/7.6 mi (46 min at
level 1 incline).

Friday's exercise: 2.5 hours mowing/weedeating/cleanup.

Saturday's exercise: 30 min jog.

Sunday: No exercise--unless you count stirring the milk and sugar coming to a boil on the stove for the Butter Rolls I finally made--haha!

This is a "getting back to it" day for me. I had this major craving for pizza after the yard work Friday, and I just gave into it. Yesterday I had Chinese buffet. Sort of overdid it, but the dessert I made at home took me way over the top for fat, etc. I had forgotten how such an overload of carbs is basically like a drug.

I had some calorie deficit every day and did okay with water for the most part. If I have a secret for the water consumption it is that during breaks of working out I consume as much as I can. The times I've checked it, it allows my heart rate to lower a bit after a big drink of water, which allows me to do more. At least that's how I look at it. It's not that I sweat so much, it's just that water during the workout feels like I'm doing a good thing for me!

I hope you're having a good food choice day!

SoccerMom on 05/06/2003:
I have noticed that I get my biggest cravings after one of two things: either I have been doing really well with my food and exercise (and my body detects a loss in the near future and wants to sabotage me), OR I ate something with sugar or other excess carbs and once I've had a taste, I want MORE. Sheesh. I find that if I drink a bottle of water when I get those cravings, I can usually avoid the binge (but there are times when ya just gotta have something!)

I like your quote for today. It sounds a lot like what my sister's been saying lately (Kyrin)...."well, obviously my plan hasn't been working lately, so it's time to change the plan" ...and now she's back on a losing streak! Go Kyrin!

Hope you have a good day today, and get that water and exercise in. Remember to ~~SMILE!!~~

One who fears failure limits his activities. Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently. --Henry Ford

It's a new month. I guess that it's appropriate that I had a somewhat off day yesterday. I took off from exercise--did I ever need that! It's easy to get into a groove and sometimes I rebel against getting out of the groove (rarely:-). I guess one of the fears is that I may not get back to it. That's a part of me; stopping any form of exercise for weeks, months, and years. But it's so important to my body and overall health to tone it down or even stop for a day.

I ate a little more than I planned. Had a bit of chocolate and Pepsi, which are typically "off limits." Oh and a handful of potato chips. I'm ready to get back into it and jump into the next challenge coming this weekend!

Time to focus my sight on what I want and go for it!

MM on 05/01/2003:
Thanks for all your comments. Sorry I didn't tell you sooner, but you have been very helpful to me.

It's good to take a day off every now and again, but I know how you feel about the fear of not getting back into it. I don't think you'll do that, though. Keep up the good work!

Soon2BThin on 05/01/2003:
Hey, hey, I see a new low weight there! You're doing great! I haven't been checking in very often lately, sorry. Looks like I have some catching up to do. Keep up the good work!

pollyanna on 05/04/2003:
Taking off a day isn't bad for us. But like you, one day can always lead to two, to a year, to 10 years. I also have a difficult time leaving the "groove." But you are back on the treadmill in the groove and overall you are doing GREAT!

peace, pollyanna :)

SoccerMom on 05/05/2003:
Oh gosh...Pepsi and chocolate!! haha Oh well, sometimes you've just gotta have a bit of a treat...just don't make it a habit. I know what you mean about the exercise groove. When I get called to come work, it messes me up, because I don't get to exercise in the morning......then it's even harder to do it later in the day, because I've eaten (and hate to exercise on a full tummy). I'm glad I'll have today to catch up, and do more!

Have a wonderful day!

Happy Wednesday!

Missed the mark on my calorie goal, but met the other two for the M-Th Challenge. I got in a NordicTrack session, 1 hr, 4 min/7.7 mi with 42 min at level 1. I'm glad I tried that because it was actually smoother at level 1 and it was easier to go faster. Good thing!

I also got in a 25 min jog in the evening. I want to eventually get back to 10-12 days/month of jogging whatever length of time. I just enjoy it and the feeling of accomplishment.

I hope you all have a good food choice day!

I got in a workout on my NordicTrack, 1 hr, 6 min/7.7 mi. Met all goals for the Mon-Thurs Challenge! Be back later to update measurements.

Later . . .
Well lookee there ya'll--the two measurements that show up for public consumption are down--yi-haaa! Bust and waist are down a quarter inch, hip and leg are up a quarter inch and the rest are the same. Scale is the same.

Have a great day!

I'm doin' better with those. Whenever I'm behind on my water, I think about the commitment that you've made to yourself in joining me in the challenges. How could I do less?

I'm feeling very committed right now. Thanks for setting the good example when I fell victim to "vacationitis." LOL

I made all my goals for yesterday. I'm going to continue with the same goals for Mon-Thurs with Kyrin and her challenge! Mine are
100 oz water/day, at least 1000 cal def, and 2000 calories/day.

I did my NordicTrack for 1 hr, 7 min/7.6 mi yesterday and later a workout on the Airdyne 50 min/12.6 mi.

Hope you have a good food and exercise day!

kyrin on 04/28/2003:
I'm glad that you're doing the challenge with me. When I was wrangling with my body and it's whining moment this morning, I thought about taking today off (briefly). I also thought about you and the wonderful progress that you've been making lately. That made me grin...and got me thinking about what I could do today to challenge my arm and butt muscles. LOL So, thanks for the push.

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return. --Mary Jean Iron

I'm down one more pound and so that makes 30 since my highest weight--woo-hoo! Now I did get my hair cut yesterday--about 3 inches worth--I suppose that contributed an ounce to the loss:-)

I did my NordicTrack the last couple days. Thur: 1hr, 6 min/7.8 mi and Fri: 38 min/4.3 mi.

I'm doing a Weekend Challenge, a la Kyrin, 1000 cal def--100 oz water--2000 cal/day.

Any new scale I get can't take away my accomplishment of losing 30 pounds--so I'm gonna be brave and go scale shopping here soon. I love the idea of putting them all out, stepping on each one, and taking home the one that reads the least--Thanks for that suggestion Kyrin!

The poor blue vinyl scale will always have a special place in my heart. I'll take a picture and tell it, "We'll always have 189!" hahahaha . . .

Hope you're having a good day! I'll check back later!

kyrin on 04/26/2003:
WOW! Congratulations on hitting another low! ...and hitting the 30-pound loss mark to boot! Way to go, Biscotti!

Re: the blonde. Yup, DA's the nameless one. I can't watch her...even on mute. I can still "hear" her. Ugh. {grins}

Have fun with your scale shopping adventure.

pollyanna on 04/27/2003:
LOL! I understand that love/hate relationship we have with the scales! My scales....they were good ones, I thought. Our bathroom had a tiled floor and I discovered sometimes if I get off and then back on three times, I will weigh three different weights--sometimes as much as 5 pounds! I, of course, take the lowest..... I don't need new scales; I need a new floor! LOL

Another pound for 30 pounds! That is wonderful! Haircut or no hair cut.....you are doing beautifully! (hmmm....I got a hair cut this week also....think?)

peace, pollyanna :)

I always find that statistics are hard to swallow and impossible to digest. The only one I can ever remember is that if all the people who go to sleep in church were laid end to end they would be a lot more comfortable. --Mrs. Robert A. Taft

Happy Thursday!

I simply pooped out on exercise--yep Soonie, that was a bit much on the Airdyne. It's not easy, but sometimes I get in a groove and just keep on keeping on! It's good for me to push myself every so often to see if I can do it!

So I hope to get back to it today!

Golightly on 04/24/2003:

Biscotti, you are only 4 pounds away from your goal! Girl, you are gonna make it!!

Take care.

Chrysalis on 04/24/2003:

kyrin on 04/24/2003:
Woo-Hoo! I love seeing that 160 number! All right, Biscotti!

Re: the new scale. ...Oh, oh! {grins} It's best to do it quickly and get it over with. (Like pulling off a bandaid quick.) LOL ...The best bet for finding your one true scale (like finding Harry Potter's magic wand) is to try them out before you buy them. Just lay a bunch of them out on the show room floor and start jumping up and down on them, kind of like you do at home. The one with the friendliest numbers gets to come home with you. ...But be sure to tell those assorted scales the rules of the game first. (The one with the lowest number wins.) ...Happy hunting!

Beauty is all very well at first sight; but who ever looks at it when it has been in the house three days? --George Bernard Shaw

Well I'm doing pretty well--down a pound and I got in a workout yesterday. I rode the Airdyne for 1 hr, 17 min/20.2 mi. I'd much rather have a bike and a safe place to ride it.

Been thinkin' about gettin' a new scale--uh-huh . . . my workhorse is light blue with a blue vinyl top--it's a classic--hahaha! You can't get this lovely model anymore, so I'm hoping that somehow I'll catch a Martha Stewart ep where she has someone who collects bathroom scales and my beloved model will be featured, and then I can feel vindicated for keeping it--hahaha!

The thing about getting a new scale is just biting the bullet in case it's totally different (higher weight displayed) from the previous one. I already know this one is about 5 lbs less than a doctor's-type scale, so it shouldn't get to me. It's not a big thing really, just 5 lbs--so I guess I actually weigh 165 today--ignore me, I'm just trying to get used to the idea:-)

Sh*t! F*cking scale!

Hope you're having a good day!

Golightly on 04/23/2003:
Biscotti, we are kindred spirits. My scale has started giving me bizarre readings ... my weight can fluctuate 5 pounds simply by stepping off it and then stepping back on it. I suspect the damn thing might be broken, but I am scared stiff to buy a new one! What if it reads 10 pounds heavier? How will I ever overcome the disappointment? For now, I simply take the highest reading I get, just to be safe. But I may soon have to face my fear and buy a new scale.

LOL, it wouldn't surprise me if Martha Stewart collected "vintage" scales. I saw a show where she showed off her vintage fan collection (you know, electric fans to cool your room). I just thought it was bizarre she collected them, especially since very few of them were attractive! What we, every member of Diet Diaries, must do is send her e-mails encouraging her to collect scales. Barrage her with the idea! Then you can sell her yours for a fortune!!

An anti-drug movie with Sonny Bono? Sounds hilarious!!! Actually, I could have written an entire book about the effects different movies have had on me, but edited my entry as it got too long. I haven't seen "Dead Ringers" -- I'll have to look for that one!

I think I would rather grow scales than have to step on one. F*cking scales!!

dolyda on 04/23/2003:
yep...i know exactly what you mean...by my old scale, i'm 4 lbs light...oh how i miss that scale!!...lol :D

shellybelly on 04/23/2003:
Hey! I know what you mean about them scales. I think mine now is pretty accurate. The one at the Dr. actually says I weigh less. I don't know if I trust them Dr. office scales though. I worked in the office for 3 years. They have 3 different scales, and each weigh something totally different. You would think of all places, a Dr. office would be right! Oh well....take care! :-) Shelly

Happy Earth Day!

I'm doing okay with my Continuing Challenge; 1000 cal/day deficit, 100 oz water, and 2000 calories per day. I'm throwing in the towel with trying to figure out the NordicTrack display thingy--I'm going back to 5 resistance and that's that. It doesn't change the resistance, it just changes the number. The important thing is that I do something every day to make me sweat for awhile. Anyway, enough already!

Thanks for the notes on my diary. I cannot believe you had a coat for 12 years! In the past 12 years, due to weight gain, I've had about 6 coats! And now, with weight loss, let's hope I need another new one!!

I had quite a giggle over your note about the world going into panic if all the secretaries took time off. How true!! I was a secretary until my promotion last summer, and I know for certain that secretaries are really the people "in the know" at the office!
