Day 28

One good day down, X more to go! Thanks for all your fine comments!

I drank >60 oz water. Only had 2 meals and one was on diet. Snacked on tortilla chips and picante sauce. My workout was 25 min on the NordicTrack interspersed with 25 min of weightlifting (dumbbells). So the day was pretty good.

Planning for (at least) exercise success tomorrow--we'll just see about the diet. If I plan on a pretty good amount of exercise--I'm planning on success!

MichelleP on 02/10/2002:
Hi,

Sounds like an awesome plan! Keep up the great work. Success is a wonderful plan ( mind if I borrow it LOL)! Take care and have a great day!

SOU812? on 02/10/2002:
You are doing great! I think anyone putting forth effort in their health whether it be exercise, water or eating is making a difference! Slowly integrating healthy habits is the best way to go about developing permanent healthy lifestyle changes. I hope you have a wonderful day! Kelly

Days 26 & 27

Blah! and More Blah! I did get 6 and 7.5 hours sleep and about 60 oz water for both days. Oh, and a 15 min walk both days. But I still am kind of eating as I want. I couldn't access FitDay yesterday and I don't feel like taking time to put it in the last couple days of disaster;-)

I feel instead like concentrating on TODAY. I'm not giving up, dammit! I may be off the beaten path, but I know I can succeed.

Today's Plan: to eat 2 out of 3 meals on diet and get in a Circuit Aerobic Workout. And watch a little of the Olympics, sometimes athletes at that level can be very motivating to me.

I hope you're having a good food and exercise day! Onward and Upward Through the Fog (as the case may be) . . . until tomorrow!

callysto on 02/09/2002:
i know what you mean about watching athletes and it being motivating. I'm the same way when i watch ice skating and college softball. Well have fun watching the olympics! hey, maybe while watching we can do some exercising like leg raises or crunches. just an idea! good luck today! Kim

Day 24

No FitDay and no exercise.
Day 25

I hope you're having a good diet choice day!

I started using FitDay again. My excess (a credit is a better word:-)calories burned = 490. Thanks for a small victory. I walked for 20 min and my calories eaten = 2248. Unfortunately the fat content was rather high--too many Oatmeal Date Scones. I got 'em out of my craving radar--I hope;-) And, I just don't have to make them for awhile. Lots of things I can make and set aside and just eat a little at a time--I have no control with these scones around.

I'm looking forward to doing better tomorrow--I hope you all are doing well, too! Until tomorrow!

Added Later: I only got 5 hours sleep over Tuesday and I drank >60 oz water

SOU812? on 02/07/2002:
Those scones sound YUMMY! What's in 'em? I am into making low fat versions of everything I like and there may be some potential with this one! :0) My cravings led me to choc pudding and angel food cake last night but they were both sugar free and the pudding fat free, so the guilt is a little less! I hope you have a wonderful day! Kelly

Days 20-23

Hi and I hope you're having a wonderful day:-)

I've been totally out of control eatingwise, but that's been going on (to one degree or another) longer than the last 4 days. I've kinda been on a diet vacation--so it was also a little fun.

It's time to be accountable and own up to my shortcomings, plus I need to start getting at least 7 hours sleep per night. I haven't been too good with the water the last few days, either. I want to change these things and I will listen to any encouragement I can get. I think 90% good eating and 10% not-so-good (within a day) will be a good start. Also, I'm going to try to do FitDay for at least a good 2 weeks and see where it gets me.

For laughs: I found this website where this guy challenges a couple to gain 30 lbs in 30 days. It's called The Fat Project. There's a link on that page to the "Stinky Feet Project." I laughed alot while reading both of these, so if you need a good laugh, check them out. To reduce the popup ads, press your browser's "Stop" loading button after it looks like the page has loaded. Of course, my computer's about 6 years old (yikes!!!), so it sometimes takes awhile to load. And, if you already saw them and you didn't tell ME about them, you get 30 lashes with a wet noodle!

I found these little gems on a scratch diary paper from a few weeks back: "Don't undermine yourself by eating something to start you on your way to failure," "Get through this ONE day with success," and "Arrange your eating to NOT feel deprived."

Wish me luck (how many times do I have to get thrown by the horse, and get on again?) and ya'll have a good time!

pastagal on 02/05/2002:
Well as long as that horse didn't break your back or butt or arms for that matter,,you just get back up and on it again and ride it like hell:}} You can do it,just take it slow and ONE day at a time and you will,,,gosh it took me almost 18 yrs to get serious:}}Have a nice night ok;}

SOU812? on 02/06/2002:
Thank you for your comment. I went to the viewing last night and it was "freaky". That's all I have to say as I am still formulating my feelings! Life is short and we are all special in our own ways. So you have been out of control, that's okay, just be good now. Every time I went off my diet by pigging out, I stayed off and gained the weight I loss plus more! Everything in moderation, even being bad! :0) I hope you have a great week. Take care and be good to yourself! Kelly

CT on 02/06/2002:
Your entry reminded me of a book I've been meaning to read: The 90/10 Weight Loss Plan (by Joy Bauer). It's based on exactly what you said, 90% good eating and 10% 'fun' eating. I haven't read it yet but thought I'd mention it :-) Oh, and that 'fat project' really is hysterical, I stumbled upon it myself a few months ago!

shellybelly on 02/06/2002:
Hey! I checked out that Fat Project site. Wow....I'm fighting to lose 30 pounds and there are those 2 trying to gain it!

Day 19

Hi and let's get to the juice!

The dentist visit went really well, and I got to hear the story about the guy who came and he thought he'd cracked a tooth. Well they got in and it was a BIG CHUNK of tartar (apologies to the Big Chunk candy fans out there). They asked him how often he brushed his teeth and he replied, "Once or twice a week--just whenever I get around to it!"

What can I say--I'm getting out easy--they can fix it with a filling. And I don't have any other problems. Oh Tooth Fairy, I promise to floss at least once each and every day! I don't have pyorrhea or the prospect of shoepeg corn teeth--I feel so lucky!

I got in my 15 min walk and (pre breakfast) 41 min on the NordicTrack--my quads are still kind of tired, so I'll plan on the weights tomorrow!

Have a good day! **************** Oh, I drank >100 oz water:-)

pastagal on 02/01/2002:
OMG,he only brushed his teeth once or twice a week,,,YUCK!!!! well hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow;}}

kyrin on 02/01/2002:
Hi Biscotti!

I'm glad that your dental visit went well. I probably need to go find a dentist down here. We've lived here for 5 1/2 years and I still go to see the dentist back in Tennessee--when I remember that I should go. Oy

Hugs!

Day 18

Hope you're having a good day inside and out!

Me, I have to go to the--you know--f***ing dentist--because I'm lame! You know I have 900 thingies of dental floss, every type; shred-free, shred-free waxed, shred-free unwaxed, fine waxed, extra fine unwaxed, Glide, Oral B, Butler, Walgreens! The best IMHO is Walgreens extra fine unwaxed--but now I'm unable to find it, so I'm resorting to some of the waxed stuff--most of which I bought erroneously in a stupor of looking at a sea of dental floss! I'm a great collector of dental floss--hahaha--it's just that it won't floss my pearlies for me! I broke a tooth about two weeks ago--damn I feel stupid. The older I get the stupider I get, it seems.

Anyway, I did real well foodwise, ate on diet except for eating at Cracker Barrel. Had 2 chicken tenders, 2 biscuits, hashbrown casserole, and macaroni/cheese. It looked like everything was left over from lunch and they were out of the "special." The waiter said they sometimes run out of it at lunch on Wednesdays.

Didn't do any outwardly blatant exercise;-) Drank >60 oz water. Also, this excessive typing can be attributed to the lateness of the hour--it's been awhile since I've made an evening entry and my brain just seems to report differently than it does during the day.

Do I sound like I have a bad attitude--give me a day--I'll be better after I work out tomorrow and of course after I get finished at the dentist.

Have a flossy day, make mine extra fine, honey! Until tomorrow!

MichelleP on 01/31/2002:
Hi,

It doesnt sound like you have an bad attitude, sounds like you needed to do some personal expression ( which is not a bad thing )! I have heard many people say ... tommorow is a new day... THANK GOD they are right. Good luck at the dentist and I bet they have just as much dental floss LOL! Take Care

Jelly Belly on 01/31/2002:
I can't live w/o Glide! How'd you break your tooth? Getting on me for not exercising and you slacked yesterday! Hmph!! I have been for 3 days! I will think especially of you today when I lift. I'll think of you in the dentist chair. Hope it goes well.

mommathree33 on 01/31/2002:
Don't worry about your attitude, we all have them once in a while. I'm not a morning person, I don't become a human being until I have my coffee in the morning otherwise look out for "Oscar the grouch". Have a wonderful day! Ciao Mommathree33

CharlieAngel on 01/31/2002:
I so totally feel for you! I hate, abhor, detest going to the dentist....bad experiences as a child plus an extremely active gag reflex make it nearly impossible for me to go unless I absolutely have to! Unfortunately for me it is coming to that....I cracked my crown a few weeks ago too! Hope it goes ok for you. Have a great day and EXERCISE!!! Charlotte

Soon2BThin on 01/31/2002:
I'm not sure I understood what you meant by all the floss talk but I know I start out after a dentist visit with all the best intentions of flossing every night, manage to stick it out for about 2 months, then get out of the habit. I have to go to the dentist twice a year to get cleaned. I hate that. You'd think I'd stick with the flossing. And I know I'm older AND stupider, hahaha. Cracker Barrel sounded really good, I like eating there, great biscuits! Have a fine day at the dentist!

Day 17

Hi Everyone!

I got in one good exercise day. Did 36 minutes on the NordicTrack pre-breakfast and did a circuit (with weights) on the NT later on. The circuit aerobic workout was a total of 15 minutes and that included about 20 minutes of weight work. My calorie intake was way too high, but I'm actually trying to watch it today;-) I like SOU812?'s attitude about eating more when you do weights.

I went to the site SoccerMom mentioned about losing only a pound but going down several sizes and losing inches--pretty unbelievable. Hope I see that in myself!

Hope you're all having a good diet/exercise day, I am so far! Until tomorrow!

SoccerMom on 01/30/2002:
I've always been a slow loser of pounds, but I do firm up quickly...so maybe (I'm hoping!) that the article I posted is really true? We can dream, can't we?

Have a wonderful day.

Day 16

Thanks for all the fine comments!

I feel pretty, oh so pretty, I feel pretty and witty and wise . . . hahaha! I'll start with today which is Day 17. I did 36 min on the NordicTrack!

Yesterday I drank >40 oz water and walked for 15 minutes. The rest was inconsequential--yeah right! Except the part about pigging out--please, I don't want to talk about it--I just want to move on.

I've not been getting enough sleep--gotta work on that. Planning on doing some weights later. So, if I can remember how good I felt after working out this morning, I'll try try try to do more of it. I'm not really old enough to have chronic short-term memory loss!

Until tomorrow all!

Jelly Belly on 01/29/2002:
At least you, you know (the thing you don't want to talk ) at least you worked out! It's better than not working out and you know what!

CharlieAngel on 01/29/2002:
Anything that you do is better than not doing anything. And as Dotti from Dotti's Weight Loss Zone says "If you always do what you've always done, you always get what you always got." So, every day that you do something extra....it counts. My boss told me that she could only do 5 sit ups and I said well that's 5 more than you used to do!! It will get better....and you should feel pretty!!! Cause you are! I can tell even from here! Love ya, have a great day and lift them weights....think of all the work those muscles will do in fat burning....Charlotte

Soon2BThin on 01/29/2002:
Sounds like you had a really good day yesterday & today is off to a good start too. Good job on all the exercise!

MichelleP on 01/29/2002:
Welcome to a new day, thats the great part about sunrise! LOL I am not that old and trust me I do have chronic short-term memory loss. I am lucky to find my keys each day, lol and when I cant they are usually in the ignition~ silly me =)~ Take Care and have a great night!

SOU812? on 01/29/2002:
Way to go on the exercise! I look at weight lifting this way; more muscle=more food! Yeah! I like that a lot! I hope you have a good night. :0) Kelly

Days 14 & 15

I hate to sound like a broken record, "I'm starting over again!" Of course this latest bingette started with my "free" day, which wasn't all that bad. It's not that I really binged, but I couldn't control my cravings. And I didn't follow through on my exercise, nor did I drink my water.

So I'm getting back to it. It's important to get back on the horse (or in my case, the NordicTrack) as soon as possible! I'll be catching up on my reading as well . . . so, Until Tomorrow!

CharlieAngel on 01/28/2002:
Hey, just remember if Butch can do it so can you!! LOL Seriously, this dieting is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one. I know that I have to "talk" myself into doing my exercise every day. I believe in you. This time it will work!! Have a great day! Charlotte

Jelly Belly on 01/28/2002:
Me too, me too!

garlic on 01/28/2002:
Just keep trying!! Better than not trying at all. Give yourself credit for trying. It will come back.

SoccerMom on 01/28/2002:
I find that I am much more likely to have cravings and over-eat, when I am not drinking enough water. In fact, most of the times that I crave something, I realize that I am really just thirsty! Try drinking water next time you feel the urge to binge...and see if it helps.

Have a nice evening!

Soon2BThin on 01/28/2002:
Boy, do you sound just like me!! I hope that doesn't depress you, haha. I'm doing the same thing as you, up & down with the weight. I keep saying "I'm starting over today" AGAIN! It makes me so mad you'd think I could stick with it just out of pure stubbornness. Let's do it together, okay? Now get on that NordicTrack!!

digit on 01/29/2002:
Hi there, thanks for your nice comments.

Getting down to the exercise seriously is OK once you start, as with most things in life - the thought of it is worse than the actual doing.

Days 12 & 13

Hidy Ho!

I had a "free" 2 days--now I've got to get down to brass tacks ya'll. It's nearly February and what do I have to show for my trouble? Doo-doo!

There are so many diarists of all of us who are serious about their quests and I've been feeling like I'm on the outside looking in--even though I've had a good day or two on occasion. I'm coming in to join you all--I'm really tired of getting on the scale and seeing 162, 164, 163, etc. I weighed 159 in Jun '93, so I know it's physically possibly. I'm older, but I'm pretty sure I'm also better!

That reminds me of something completely off the wall. Two commercials from the 60's/70's. One was for Geritol--a man and woman and the famous words, "My wife, I think I'll keep her." I guess he was force feeding her Geritol to stay young!

The other was for a laxative called Serutan, "Serutan spells Natures backward." So much for nostalgia--hope you're making all the right moves diet and exercise wise.

Silly as hell, but this one really cracked me up:

Ode to the Pillsbury Dough Boy

It is with the saddest heart I pass on the following:

Please join me in remembering a great icon - the veteran Pillsbury spokesman. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.

Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin.

Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch.

The gravesite was piled high with flours. As long-time friend, Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy, describing Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded.

Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very "smart"cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he even still, as a crusty old man, was considered a roll model for millions. Toward the end it was thought he would rise again, but alas, he was no tart.

Doughboy is survived by his wife, Play Dough; two children, John Dough and Jane Dough; plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart.

The funeral was held at 3:50 for about twenty minutes.

Until tomorrow!

MichelleP on 01/26/2002:
Hi, LOL love the Doughboy Joke. Laughter is a wonderful medicine. I agree with you, you can do this. Its a tuff road ( sometimes ) but if you put your heart and mind into it anything is possible ( I hope ). Take care and remember your not alone ( hope that helps ).

SOU812? on 01/26/2002:
Here's something upsetting, I remember seeing under 110 back in the 90's and again in 95! I have not seen it since those two years and it was very brief. It's amazing how I can go up 20-30 pounds only to lose it to gain it all back again! I have to make this a lifestyle. It's okay to have bad days! Make sure you have more good than bad and you'll be okay. Stay strong and love yourself! :0) I like to doughboy joke. I hope you have a wonderfully successful weekend! Kelly

kyrin on 01/26/2002:
Thank you for the funeral info. I sat and chuckled...the best thing that's happened at my computer all morning. LOL

I'm watching the scale numbers rise too...time to get serious again.

Christy
