Thanks for all the fine comments!

I had a pretty good diet day, but I don't have my fitday info done, so no cal data. I drank >80 oz water and did a 15 min walk and 45 min on the NordicTrack. I kind of have this day planned as a "free" day--but now that it's here, I don't really feel like going overboard. I did make a batch of scones, so maybe it'll just be a scone-fest!

Treadmill? Weightbench? Yes, they're out there waiting for me, covered in dust, no doubt. It's warming up some now though, so I need to get my butt out there. I got a weightbench with the let apparatus. Now, I just need a good routine or a trainer(?)! Need something-motivation? I'm so down and it's hard to get back up. I keep telling myself it's only eleven pounds, get to it while the gettings good. Then I feel as if it's eleven hundred. I start good, then lose it during the day. I plan for exercise and never get around to it. I swear, I don't recognize my own face in the mirror lately!

I just went to fitday, really cool! I wanted stop in and answer your question. Mothers is the name of the popcorn rice cake. I just got it at Giant in their "special" section. They are pretty darn good and only 40 calories each. The garlic and onion soy crips I got are yummy too! I love chips so these are my substitutes. I also bought some WOW chips which make my tummy feel funny and I am not going to buy those anymore because I heard they may pull 'em soon! I also bought KC Masterpiece baked Lays, very yummy. It's hard to portion control with these but I do actually count them out before I gobble 'em up. There are so many other rice/wheat/popcorn/etc. cakes, all kinds of soy dried products that I am looking forward to trying them all. They even have vege chips which look like Funyuns! I'll let you know how they all are. :0) Take Care. -Kelly

Hope your day's going well!

I feel like a weight has been lifted from this struggle. Funny how picking up a few weights for a tad can accomplish that! I did my Circuit Aerobic Workout. I drank >110 oz water. I had a couple servings of brownie, but not enough veg that's why the calories are below 2000.

I have a new gimmick! Surprise Surprise Surprise! I caught a tiny bit of Law & Order last night and one person said, ". . . the distance from A to Z . . ." So weightwise I am at "J" today.

I just took my weight from when I started in Jun '01 to my FINAL goal (the one I really think is unattainable for me), and I spread it out evenly over the alphabet. Go ahead, laugh, hahahaha! It's just something else to show progress I suppose. Also, I spent a bit of time reading ****ypoo.com--the regular journal, not diet--all I can say is she is what she says she is (not sure about the poo part--WITCHIEPOO was a character from H.R. Pufnstuf (1969)).

I'm still claiming the diet, but I'm not going to feel so deprived that I become ravenous--was close to it last night! I'm going to get on the NordicTrack--still feel pretty good after yesterday's workout--I guess the soreness hasn't set in yet--maybe it won't;-)

I so agree with you! For me this is not just another diet. It is a special committment to making a lifestyle change. There will be times when I make an unhealthy choice or don't drink 3 liters of water, but we have to be careful not to deprive ourselves of everything we love. We all know what that leads to! More than a third of the way there at "J"... Wooo-Hooo! Let's see then, I'm about at an "H" Hmmmmmm. It seems like a far piece to that Z...but I'm game. LOL

As far as exercising. Yes! I definitely will today. Both Jim and Matt are going to be gone tonight. You know what that means? Dancing...and maybe some step bench too.

It feels good to have someone who's counting on me to get up out of this computer chair and move this butt a bit. LOL!

I'm looking forward to tonight!

I'm going to have to stop off and read old bitchypoo so that I can formulate an opinion on this subject. I have read a little of her stuff before and she's a tad crude but hey, whatever works, right? Day 9

Hope you're having a good diet & exercise day!

I fell off the wagon and landed in a small hole food and exercise wise yesterday. Do I need to elaborate? I read and SAW Kyrin's entry yesterday and she had the right approach: do your exercise and THEN reward yourself with the goodies. Well, I did the opposite and by the time I got on the skier I was exhausted from the goodies! I only got through 8 minutes. I did a 15 min walk as well. I drank 60 oz water and other than the TWO cherry turnovers and 2 servings of oatmeal, I ate on diet.

I'm okay today because it's a new day and the slate is clean. I realize how much fitness I've lost since giving up weight training in about November. I just haven't been making time for it. So I'm going back to my routine of the Circuit Aerobic Workout 3-4 days per week.

Attagirl, Biscotti! We both need to be doing more exercise. I am not about to give up eating the things that I love! Having just declared that, I guess I've also got to say that the only way to keep from gaining weight is to exercise. I'd like to lose some weight. Shoot, I'd just be happier if I was more toned. It's not the size that counts so much as what you can do with what you've got, I think. And, I'm not where I want to be fitness-wise.

Come on, gal. I'll be your exercise buddy if you want one. I've been taking it easy lately...barely making these lungs and muscles work...at least not like I was. I need to jump back on it. I'll do it with you, if you want.

Thanks for your comment. I don't think you did so bad yesterday. Usually when I fall off, I stay off the rest of the day. Sometimes even the next day, haha. I know what you mean about the weight training--I stopped for a few months & my abs got really flabby, not that they were so good anyways, but better. Now I've been back at it for a couple of weeks & I can already feel the difference. Stick with it, you're doing great!

I am still drinking the water hoping this retention will go away in a few days. The pudding I use is Jello Brand sugar and fat free. It comes in a box and you have to mix it with skim milk yourself. It's much cheaper and you can portion control it yourself. I love the stuff! I hope you have a good night! Kelly

Day 8

Happy Monday One and All!

I had yet another day of pretty good dieting. I discovered I was out of fat-free chocolate pudding and so to get my fix, I ate about 2 servings of brownie. I also drank about 6 oz 1% milk with a bit of chocolate syrup added. Other than those 2 things I ate on diet. I got in a 15 min walk and drank 60 oz water.

In hindsight I could have just had another apple and killed my appetite pretty easily, but those brownies were calling to me from wayyy back in the freezer hahaha! I'll have an apple if it happens today. They are simply amazing!

As you all know this isn't easy. It makes me feel good to resist temptation, but if I don't have those things around to get me over the "tempatation hump," like pickles, FF pudding, instant coffee and 1% or FF milk, I'll become a human garbage disposer to be sure. Also, I essentially did nothing yesterday, no errands, no housework, I really fought cooking, so I guess the food intake could have been much worse. I have little projects to keep me busy to stave off the junk food consumption, but I wasn't interested in those. I wanted to be and was a couch potato!

I've gone several days now of cutting my caffeine intake by about 5 or 6 p.m. so I've been sleeping much better.

Here's to gettin' back in the swing of things . . . Until tomorrow!

Hi I know what you mean a bout chocolate. I have been wanting a chocolate mike shake. for 4 day now So last night I had 4 peices of bacon. I got down more water to wash the salt outof my body. I have chocolate atack at the t.o.m.I 'm not so sure I can hold out long on the Chocolate shake! But I'm trying.Bandmom

I have been getting into the fat free pudding big time! That stuff is great! I have had a box of the chocolate, a box of vanilla and I am going to try the white chocolate tomorrow. I would have made it tonight but I'm out of milk. I had a caramel Viactiv chew which is a women's calcium supplement, yummy! It helped a little with the sweet tooth. I have been a couch potato myself but see nothing wrong with it. I just make sure I meet my minimum of working out at least 30 min 3 times a week. I may implement more one day but I really don't want to put the pressure on myself like that. If I keep the expectations of myself in moderate range, I can and will do it! Day 7

Hi everyone!

I'm still on the "wagon" and I did well dietwise. All I had off diet were some walnuts (3). My exercise consisted of a 15 min walk. I also had to chase down my freckle-bellied friend. This excursion included about 2 min of unintentional jogging--WHEW! I drank >60 oz water.

Pretty uneventful. Unless you count all the resistance. I resisted Cherry Turnovers, about 6 fast food places, grocery shopping while semi-hungry, and some previously unknown (hidden) mini-chocolate morsels.

Maybe if I can keep this up, come April, I'll be able to say, "I am lighter, I feel really good, Resistance ISN'T futile!"

. . . And on day 6 I proclaimed how great it is that it's not June 18th and I still weigh 162. Thank goodness it's January! (Thanks to you all for the great comments too!)

I did 43 min on the NordicTrack and drank >80 oz water. I ate right on diet, except for a couple crumbs of brownie. Had 2 svg of apple and 2 of broccoli. So I feel pretty good and somewhat remotivated!

The beef & horseradish roll was delicious. It was a baggette with a couple of slices of warm beef in it and a sprinkling of horseradish sauce. My mouths watering even thinging about it.

Day 5

Hi all diet diary folks!

A leopard doesn't changes its spots, nor do I change my excuses, screw-up days. Maybe it's my biorhythm--haha! Yesterday was just not meant to be a successful diet day. But today is! I really feel like I've gotten the deprived feeling out of my system. So, I'm entering a bit from The Woman Doctor's Diet for Women, 1977. This passage just jumped out at me for some reason.

My fluid consumption consisted of about 32 oz of Gatorade (for crying out loud). Blue Gatorade no less. I did a 15 min walk. The rest was nothing to write home about, so I won't--hahaha!

So here's something for you to think about (or not) from Chapter 6, What Makes a Woman Stop Dieting, this is under the heading, "HUNGER," 2. Full=Empty.

Being full has no meaning to the overweight. Signals from the stomach have been ignored for so long that when it is full, the brain fails to signal to the mouth to stop eating. Unfortunately, the things that can make us feel hungry are innumerable. They might be certain levels of glucose (sugar) or of insulin in the blood; they might be the sight and smell of food; they might even be the time of day. The only thing we do know for sure is that if you are overweight, you respond inappropriately to food cues. When you are in fact full, you still feel hungry.

This means you have to learn again how to recognize when you are full.* You knew it once, but you have forgotten it. Use volume in the stomach as an indicator. Start high; drink eight ounces of fluid, and think yourself full; then reduce it to seven ounces; then to six. Don't be afraid to drink with meals; that helps increase volume. Stop after a certain volume and tell yourself you are full. Repeat this to yourself enough times, and you will BE full. The same holds for hunger. Re-learn what real hunger is. Learn it by the clock: 8 o'clock, breakfast; 12 to 1 o'clock, lunch; 6 to 7 o'clock, supper. Anything that you feel between those times is not HUNGER.

*I add as a footnote, when I first tried this diet, I soon realized that actually sitting down at a table, one that is meant for eating, not in front of the TV, was the way for me to feel satisfied with a meal. I have migrated away from that habit again. So, the clock example given here, probably won't work for everyone--unless you change the times for yourself.

Also, please keep in mind this book was written in 1977. There's alot of water that's gone under the bridge in the current wisdom of diet and weight loss. So, don't hate me because I'm clinging to this "relic of the past." It worked for me when I stuck with it--just like Atkins for some and WW for others.

Plan is to eat properly today and get back to my NordicTrack--it probably thinks I'm holding it hostage by now hahaha!

hi! Thank you for your concern. I had my annual check up about 2 months ago and my doctor thinks my steady weight gain is due to stress and lack of exercise. She said I should start a fitness program and in 6 months if there are no measurable results she'll look into the reasons further. I lost about 75 pounds 3 1/2-4 years ago on the cabbage soup diet mostly(STUPID ME) so I should of known the results would'nt last long. Also I went to self.com and used the calculators there. I will also check out the site you use to see how close the two come. I really liked the passage from your book included today. How very true. I can't remember the last time I stopped eating because i'm truly full. I 'll try to incorporate those exercises into my new routine. I hope this is great successful day for you. In regards to the XM satellite radio system I fail to see the benefits. I now have a entry level radio in my car. In addition to having AM/FM it also has a cassette player. Even living up here I have a goodly amount of stations to listen to. And if I didn't I could go to the library or Barnes & Noble for books on tape. If I want music there are literally thousands of tapes I can buy.

So the question why would I want to pay $300 for a radio. Then find someone to install it, then pay them. Then on top of it shell out $120 per year to listen to radio, I dont think so. Or am I missing something.

Hello to you all on this fine Thursday morning!

I drank >60 oz water and did only a 15-min walk. I echo alot of us on here in that I need to ensure that I eat more fruits and vegetables. I'm going to re-read my referenced book, The Woman Doctor's Diet for Women. I may be joining the ranks of WW followers on here if I can't REALLY get going with this. It's kinda funny, but when I wasn't thinking about sticking to it during the holidays, I didn't do too badly. Reaffirmation is the order of the day!

I can only tell you that I am loving Weight Watchers because I know that NOTHING is off limits. If I really want a candy bar then I can have it. I may have to eat a salad for a meal, but I can have what I really want for dessert. Plus I really love the convenience of the Smart Ones meals. They cost Between $1.50 and $3.00 but hey, when I used to go out to lunch every day I would spend 3 times that much easy. I usually bring a Smart one, a salad, a couple slices of bread and some fruit to work with everyday. That gets me full and not feeling deprived. I really wish I could find the Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches here though...they are only 2 points. Have a fabulous day, hon, and take care of YOU!!! love, Charlotte

Good job on your 15 minute walk, its better than no walk. I have heard alot of good things about WW. I really enjoy there smart ones frozen dinners. They are easy, I dont have to calculate anything, and they actually taste good. Take care and keep up the good work.

Well if you decide to do WW,,,i can only say you will be in my opinion starting a great program,,,its easy to follow and you can basically have anything you want in reason and feel good while doing it,,it teaches you alot ,,,well have a wonderful day;}

I have never tried the diet you are on. Is it simple? I am thinking about trying WW myself! I like the fact you can eat whatever you want. There have been many times I would have loved to just eaten a cookie or have some fries. I don't know enough about WW to know whether or not those two things would cost ya a whole meal or not. It sounds simple enough but I am sure one could be on the diet eating just junk if they wanted to and still lose? I'm going to investigate this weekend. I am with you, reaffimation all the way. Day 3

Good news: I did my one 15-min walk, drank >40 oz water. Ate a good dinner, on-diet. Bad news: I made a batch of Oatmeal Date Scones and ate almost all of them--I'm chuckling and shaking my head as I type this. So the battle continues.

I'm doing better today and am back on track. I think I am making this whole thing a "mixed bag" because I'm not always keeping the long view of things in mind, but after yesterday, again I am reminded of how difficult it is to resist eating for the sake of eating, whether it's out of compulsion, stress, extreme hunger, or boredom.

Hope you're doing well diet and exercise wise . . . Until tomorrow.

Day 2

Lunch and dinner went as planned. I did get my 2 walks of 10 and 15 min in, but not my NordicTrack workout. I drank >60 oz water. It was a very mixed bag, but I'm still in the success is mine frame of mind. I got 7.5 hours of sleep for a change. Not much else to tell, I'm going to keep on keeping on.

It sounds like you have a goal and are sticking to your plan to reach that goal. Good for you! I had my "moment" after I reached 375lbs and got up one morning and wrote myself a letter (sounds like a song title doesn't it) I found this site and it has helped SO much! I printed my "letter" here in my first DD and have been back almost every day to read & leave comments. This is a great way to stay motivated. Keep at it and we will succeed! Butch
