Hello All!

Newsflash: I got some exercise!

I did well diet wise, except for some fries and a coke--they take up so much calorie space for "junk food." Calories were 2568; 48% carb, 30% fat, 22% protein. I had 2 fruit, 3 veg and about 60 oz water. I did 42 min on my NordicTrack and 30 leg lifts.

I did a "where did I burn my calories" report on FitDay and came up with 5% activities for the last month. Since the last month or so is all I have to go on (consistently), I'm shooting for 10% for the next month. So, I'm incorporating this into my daily "stuff." Yesterday, I burned 12% of "activity" calories.

Don't have much to add except that today reflects a change in how I'm doing my bust measurement. Until tomorrow!

halley on 12/01/2001:
That sounds like a good goal of 10%. I need to look at the website again!

ChristyG on 12/02/2001:
Wooo-Hooo! Way to go, Biscotti. I knew you could do it! {grins}

Hidy Ho Everyone!

Yes, Christy--I need the kick, the last few days especially. Didja have to remind me? Really, I've got to stop these lame excuses. I know what I want and I basically know how to get it. Here's my attitude being A-D-J-U-S-T-E-D!

My calories for today 2769: 49% carb, 34% fat, and 17% protein. About 40 oz water and 2 fruits and 2 veg, *slumping and looking at the floor* NO EXERCISE. As I said, no excuse. Will try to get that groove back again tomorrow--is it possible to "fear" boredom (the boredom of the same old workout), or is that just another excuse? I see myself getting out of this mode--not sure when.

See ya'll later!

ChristyG on 11/30/2001:
I was contemplating the love/fear thing a few days ago as I was trying to decide about re-installing either Dietwatch or Weight Commander on my computer. I decided against it (for me). It's a great tool, but I tend to stress more when using it. I start thinking that I have to do "everything right" or I won't be successful. I try thinking in degrees of success, but every once in a while, my early family life rears it's ugly head and I get convinced (again) that if I don't do it right, that I'm wrong. (Thank you, Dad!) ...So, I decided not to re-install the program. I decided that I need to work on doing what I do from a love stand point rather than from fear. I'm working on doing what I love--dancing/exercising, moving because of want not obligation. It's making me feel happier...and a lot less stressed.

If you're bored with your workout, find something that you love...or allow yourself the opportunity to learn to love something else. Try something new that you have been afraid to try. Go for it, Biscotti! You can do it!

Maria7 on 11/30/2001:
Hope you have a great day today...thanks for your comments to me. Love, Maria

noshie on 11/30/2001:
Crank some tunes up maybe that will help keep you going. I have been getting into hubbys music here lately. Keeps me movin during exercise. My latest find in his collection is Pantera..lol! Take care and glad you adjusted your attitude. ;) Have a great day Love ya!

Hi everyone!

Well ya'll, Fitday takes forever lately. That's 'cause I keep entering new stuff--some healthy, some not. I added nuts yesterday and that's just how the whole thing made me feel as I ripped my hair out--hahaha! One of the things I made that was very healthy was "Chalupas" or "Tostadas" or at one restaurant we frequented when I was a child--"Tapatillas"--haven't seen that on a menu since.

Anyway, I toasted regular corn tortillas in the oven (on a cookie sheet@350 deg F for about 5 min--get them out BEFORE they brown, because they crisp up after being in the oven, oh and I turned them over, don't know if that was necessary) so I didn't have to fry them and add fat.

I put fat-free refried beans, about 1 oz cheese, retoasted under the broiler, then added sliced cherry tomatoes and spinach leaves. I had three of them. I'm going to get some reduced or fat-free cheese when I run out of my cheese this time. I pretty much avoid eating the full-fat cheese, unless it's in a casserole, so I'm anxious to try some of the reduced stuff for stuff like these tostada thingies. I tried FF cheese a long time ago and it pretty much made me gag, so I have been reluctant to go that route again. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Here's my calorie stuff [kinda high:-(], etc. info: 2725 calories 44% carb 35% fat 20% protein. I had 1 fruit and 2 veg. I drank only about 20 oz water, and did no exercise.

Gotta do some exercise today for sure--until tomorrow!

windsong on 11/29/2001:
Wow that recipe sounds really good! Made my mouth water!

You are really doing terrific! Have a wonderful day! Hugs! ~~Windsong~~

traya on 11/29/2001:
We don't like the FF cheese either! yuk!!!!!! I started buying the Sargento Lite shredded cheeses. I like it a lot better. Your recipe sounds good! I love mexican food - my husband is hispanic so we naturally have it at least 2-3 times a week (or more). I like chicken quesedillas so my "low fat" way is this: Shred up 2 Boiled chicken breasts. Add a can of Rotel (tomatos/chilis/onions) and heat through. Spray fry pan with FF Pam spray, 1 corn tortilla, put on chicken filling, sprinkle with LowFat sargento shredded cheese, another corn tortilla. Cook til lightly browned, flip. Cut into quarters. I have a lot of chicken stuff left over so I can have more throughout the week. Hubby loves them too! YUMMY! Have a great day. tammy r :-)

pastagal on 11/29/2001:
MMM i love Tostadas and have not had those in ages,,,,tho i don't like yellow cheese so i eat mine without and with lots of salsa on mine,, i just might have to have them soon:} Have a great day!

I gave up on Fitday! Takes forever and I always feel as if I'm getting ripped off. Recipe sounds yummy though!

ChristyG on 11/29/2001:
Hi, Biscotti!

You're posting your nutritional intake info so we'll give you a kick when you need one, right? And a hug whenyou need one too, right? Which one do you want tonight? LOL

Really though, the calories are a bit high for someone who isn't exercising to burn them off. Not high enough to gain much weight, but not low enough to do much good on the scale either.

Come on, both of us need to be drinking that water too. {grins}

Let's get with it!

Hope you all are having a good diet/exercise day!

My calories for yesterday were 2067 consisting of 52% carb, 20% fat, and 29% protein; 3 veg and 3 fruit. I got in about 40 oz water and I did no exercise. I ate well and I guess the significance of the numbers is the fat--20% isn't too bad--even though the calories are over my 1700 limit. I was sooooo wiped out in the evening from the previous day's workout--not sore, but exhausted.

Until tomorrow!

Hello Everyone!

I'm starting to get back on track. My weight was down to 164 this morning and I've been drinking alot of water, so--so far, so good!

My calories for yesterday were 1648 consisting of 46% carb, 21% fat, and 33% protein; 2 veg and 2 fruit. I got in about 120 oz water and I did 42 min on the NordicTrack. I also got a 10 min walk.

I know it's against just about everything I've read, but I'm holding off on my complex carbs (cereals, breads, pasta, potatoes) until evening. I've been finding that eating a consistent amount ALL day just leads to my wanting EVEN MORE at night. It's not that I'm going to go overboard--just normal portions. I know I can avoid them easier during the day. And there's no way I'm going to go on a low-carb diet, not in this lifetime anyway! For example I consumed 215 grams of carb yesterday.

Hope you all have a successful diet/exercise day!

noshie on 11/27/2001:
Sounds like a plan to me! Your doing great..keep going. Take care and have a good one. Love ya!

Hello All!

I think I've gotten the raisin, date, and walnut oatmeal out of my system, in a manner of speaking hahaha. The last few times I've had it, it has tasted like warmed over lumpy playdoh! Also as I've noticed alot of us reporting, THE PIES ARE ALL GONE--thank goodness! I just took the calorie count from fitday.com for a homemade pumpkin pie and it comes to over 300 calories and 14 fat grams for just one slice.

Finally, my calories, etc. for the last few days:

Wednesday (11.21): 2424 cal, 49% carb, 36% fat, and 15% protein >20 oz water. Got in a 20-minute walk. 1 veg, 1 fruit.

Thursday (11.22): 2179 cal, 43% carb, 39% fat, and 17% protein >110 oz water. Did mini Circuit Aerobic Workout with 37 min on Airdyne, 2 veg, and 2 fruit.

Friday (11.23): 3637 cal, 55% carb, 34% fat, and 11% protein. No veg, 1 fruit, >40 oz water, 20 min walk and 30 min yard work.

Saturday (11.24): 2180 cal, 48% carb, 35% fat, and 17% protein. No veg, no fruit, >20 oz water, no exercise.

Sunday (11.25): 3075 cal, 51% carb, 30% fat, and 18% protein. 2 veg, 3 fruit, >60 oz water, 44 min Airdyne interspersed with about 40 min of circuit training.

On my weight--it's up to 166 for today, but I'm not changing it on here. If next Tuesday it's still above 162, I'll change it. Needless to say I'm still learning about what I can and can't get away with. I have missed more days exercise this month than I've worked out, so that plays a big role in the gain--not just the holiday eating. I enjoyed all the extras the last few days, but it's time to re-focus on losing and exercising, and feeling good about turning back to healthy eating for awhile.

Gotta go . . . hope you all are getting back into your exercise at least, it's hard to pass up goodies, but do the best you can!

windsong on 11/26/2001:
Glad you are back on track! Those extra pounds will be off in no time! Have a terrific day and keep up that determined thinking! Hugs! ~~Windsong~~

My fingers are crossed for you on the weight... sure it will be good when you weigh in next time. I am going to be starting the Christmas baking soon, I hope I hav ethe will power to keep from nibbling all that cookie dough. Take care and get back into your exercises. Love ya!

Hi. Thanks for your comments yesterday. Sounds like you really have things in control. We had Thanksgiving at my mother's and every year I bring home enough left-overs to eat on for months. This year though-I refused to bring anything home. I told her to keep it or throw it away. So I was kinda happy about that. Have a great day! tammy r

Just a quick entry. Haven't gotten my calorie breakdown for the last 2 days in order . . . next entry:-)

Did well on my eating both days and I got in a workout (pre-breakfast) for yesterday only. It was a "mini" version of my Circuit Aerobic Workout. I interspersed a bit of weight lifting with 37 min on the Airdyne. On the water, I drank >110 oz--with very little effort--I guess that's what happens when you go a couple days drinking almost no water. I did have 3 slices of pumpkin pie with lightly whipped whipping cream. Other than that, I really didn't overdo it.

Hope you enjoyed your holiday (if you're in the US). Otherwise have a good diet/exercise day.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend. Charlotte

Oh, I like this entry. You seem to be feeling the balance that I suspect you need very much. It is wonderful to read this and to see how you add and subtract to keep it working for you. I am often inspired by you in ways that surprise me. By that I mean that I am usually more moved to action by an emotional decisions and perceptions. I haven't had TOO much success going that route :) I often forget that balance is really the key. I have written to you before asking for you to show me more of you and your spirit (and sometimes you have gifted me with that so generously :) Thank you for that.) however, you return to this basic way of your and it speaks to this one and I am thinking that it speaks to many of us. Carry on!

Thanks to you all for your fine comments--there's nothing else like it! I'm thankful I found this site about 1 year ago.

I'm seeing why it took me about 3 times to finally stick with it. I love to eat--I love to eat--I love to eat! Not only that but I love to eat great food. Fatty food. Crunchy food. Lots of it. I'm still not believing (for a few moments every day) that I've lost some weight (27# since mid-June). So I'm rationalizing more and better and holiday-type eating with that incredulity--hahaha! I'm regrouping my plan--this must be the 30th time for that--but hey, it works to a certain extent!

I decided not to count the last 2-days worth of calories simply because I didn't exercise, AGAIN! So I'm starting a month of counting and exercising today! I'm facing up to the fact that I enjoy food and that isn't likely to stop. As Halley said, ". . . the struggle continues . . ." I'm glad for the struggle because I enjoy good food entirely too much to give it up even as I'm trying to lose.

This little thing I'm starting will end on December 21st. (Unless I revamp again--haha.) Seriously, I can stick with it--it's no pressure, just keeping up with the numbers and making an effort just to LOSE, not GAIN. If on December 21st I have lost 1 pound, then I'll be satisfied.

Here's to not beating oneself up for having a good time, good friends, and good food!!!

pastagal on 11/21/2001:
Happy Thanksgivings to you and your family,,,just relax and enjoy it ok,,and if anyof us over do a bit,,we just put it behind us and move forward :}}

Hidy Ho Diet Diary people!

I'm here to report on my day yesterday. No exercise and only >40 oz water. It gets better (really!): my calories were a little over the top of the range with 1810. Food consisted of 48% carb, 33% fat, and 19% protein. I had only 2 fruits and 1 vegetable.

My plan is to do my Circuit Aerobic Workout today and then continue at least 2 days/week until I'm ready to do more running. We'll see how that goes. Otherwise I'll still be doing my usual exercise and stepping up the pace.

I did a Fitday Report on my calorie usage for the past month and, on average, I've burned more than taken in by an average of 1000 calories per day. That's very encouraging even with the diet "fall-offs" of late.

By the way, that milkshake I had was worth it--it was a chocolate chip one made by someone at a Braum's who really knows how to make a milkshake. I watched her, she adds MORE ice cream halfway through the process.

To you all, I wish you a safe and sound Thanksgiving holiday!

CharlieAngel on 11/19/2001:
Very good day so far!! Keep it up. And, every now and then an indulgence like a truly wonderful milkshake is totally ok. I have this philosophy now that I will eat whatever I want but will only eat the very best. That means I can have cheesecake, but only when I make it, cause (blushing profusely) I make the best cheesecake I've ever tasted. And sure, I can have some bratwurst and fries...but only when I go to Germany, cause the ones here are not the best!! So, go ahead and eat what you want just resolve to never settle for anything that is just ok!!! Only the very best will do for us with our delicate palates and all....lol....Take care and have a joy filled day!! Charlotte

Jelly Belly on 11/19/2001:
What's your favorite exercise machine? Do you have an eliptical trainer?

windsong on 11/19/2001:

Hope you have a wonderful evening! Hugs! ~~Windsong~~

Hello and you sound really up today! And that milkshake sounds like a dream! Oh I just love ice cream in any way. :) I'll have to live vicariously through you. hahaha While in college, I worked in the union making burgers, malts and milkshakes. All the kids would come in and demand that I make their malts and milkshakes. I added extra ice cream too and you can't let them be whipped too much either. Thanks for that memory.

Forget mistakes. Forget failures. Forget everything except what you're going to do now and do it. Today is your lucky day. --Will Durant

With apologies to Neil Young: Hey hey, my my, compulsive eating hasn't died!!! (at least for the last 3 days for me).

Thursday (11.15): 3093 cal, 51% carb, 38% fat, and 11% protein >20 oz water. No exercise, no veg (except pickles), and no fruit (except orange juice).

Friday (11.16): 3420 cal, 45% carb, 39% fat, and 15% protein. No veg (except sm lettuce salad) no fruit (except orange juice), no water, no exercise.

Saturday (11.17): 2922 cal, 55% carb, 33% fat, and 12% protein. No veg (except pickle), little fruit, >10 oz water, no exercise.

Just to refresh your memory (and mine, apparently hahaha), my calorie, consumption, and exercise goals are thus: 1200-1700 calories, 3-4 svgs each of fruits and vegetables, drink at least 60 oz water, and exercise 20-30 min daily.

I was to address how my cravings fared during the 7-day trial period for this. Well, I really didn't have any cravings. I am a stress eater pure and simple. It's minimized when I have good stuff prepared ahead of time. If I don't, then pickles and apples and oranges don't cut it when I feel like I can relieve/forget about/minimize my stress. I haven't been on here because the f.....g phone was out for about 2 days and I couldn't log on. I was using my cell phone to contact them . . . anyway I wouldn't think it was such a big deal, but it got to me. Turns out that a bird "flew into a cable" and screwed up about 20 customers. I don't understand it either, but that was the explanation. The food explosion started with Eggo Waffles and included a ridiculously calorie-rich milkshake (32 oz, 1300 calories). In between were chicken-fried steak from Cracker Barrel, a *few* (hahaha) items from Taco Bell, at least a gallon of Coke, Dr Pepper, and Pepsi, a tad bit of chocolate, and last but not least my traditional breakfast of 4 egg whites, 6 shredded wheats and 2 oz orange juice (and of course coffee with FF milk). So I have at least learned to eat a breakfast that is the best for me during this 6-month diet change. On another note, I have a pair of size 11 Levi's that fit perfectly. I still can't get into too many of my 12s, but it's rather odd that these fit so well.

I'm off for now, and I hope you're having a good food choice day! Until tomorrow, buddies!

halley on 11/18/2001:
The struggle continues........but what about your exercise? Any news from that front?
