Wanted to get my entry in before I started burning daylight hahahaha

The final number on the PEAR watch for the month was .83 (goal was .80). In case you missed out and you don't want to go that far back, it's my waist:hip ratio. I'll post it if and when it becomes .80 (I am sure I'll reach it eventually, maybe just not in the year 2001!).

I give the day's effort a 5 (out of 7). I did 40 min on Airdyne and ate 2 out of 3 meals "on diet." My water consumption was about 90 oz.

I am very aware of my better-fitting old clothes in public. I do not want to go back to feeling shortness of breath and always wanting to unzip my pants (not in public) because they're so damn tight. I knew I was bad about this, but not until now when I can sit comfortably "all buttoned up." (Go ahead, laugh--it's hilarious, until you just can't stand it anymore and then you come to Diet Diaries for the third time and finally some sense gets into your thick head.) Of course that's referring to me, but I was sooooooo miserable in my skin and now I'm starting to like my skin and treat it properly. Denial works in mysterious ways. (dodo-dodo)

Hi - Oh how much I agree about the better-fitting old clothes... I am in EXACTLY that situation at the moment! Its sooooo nice to be comfortable and not look like an overstuffed sausage! LOL It kind of puts me off searching out my old clothes that are a size smaller.

I make my scones from scratch... they are so easy to make and I going to be making them in bulk tomorrow so a mix would work out expensive. They are just flour, a little butter and sugar whizzed in a processor then I add sultanas, whizz a little more and then finally an egg and a little milk to bind.

I envy you living in a flat - I know that sounds strange, but the happiest I have ever been has been while living in flats! The last one was great it was a conversion which means it was a part of a larger building that had been converted in to flats. The original building had been one of those great big mansions owned by a Lord and had all the ornate plasterwork and beautiful floors that you would expect... and the views.....

I completely agree with you about 'being miserable in your skin' I have never heard that phrase before but it EXACTLY describes how I felt just before I started this diet! Well done on your day... why did it drop the missing 2 to make it a full 7 out of 7? You seem to have done really good!

I know how you feel about sitting comfortably, it was a struggle for me as well. When my size 18 clothes got too small it was time to do something about it!

Boy...do I know what you mean about the pants fitting! I have this old trick called the "hunk technique". When my pants are too tight I put a damp towel inside of the waist line and then zip the pants up and wear them like that around the house for about 10 mins. and the dampness stretches out the pants! Isn't that terrible! All the while I try and convince myself that the pants just shrank in the dryer and its not be who grew! oh no! I'll be on the "pear watch" with you~!

Hi All! I had a good diet/exercise day. Drank my 132 oz water. I did my CAW (Circuit Aerobic Workout), and 55 min of NordicTrack. Was only gonna do 35 on the NordicTrack, but just kept going--I'm no worse for the wear!

Diet was so-so. I give the day a 6 (out of 7). Just plugging along, no biggie. Just want to get to 165 within the next month-and-a-half. If I don't make it, I'm not gonna have a cow. However, if I'm back to 189+ in three years, I will have given up. Something I'm not close to doing at this point. I AM confident that I will make my mini-goals as they come along. The major goals will just have to wait. I see that my pace is gonna probably stay slow and steady. I don't want to be hasty in this--I want to get the pounds off and then keep them off.

Hope all's going well in your diet/exercise world.

What a great attitude! You are so right - it IS better to lose weight in a slow and steady way. An acquaitaince of mine who lost nearly 200 pounds told me I should think of this period in my life as time for 're-training' myself in to good eating habits rather than a short term diet and I really like that idea.

6 out of 7 is excellent!

Hope you all have had a good diet/exercise choice day thingy whatchamacallit! Whew!!! I was dying to use that word AND supercalifragilisticexpialidocious . . . all in one entry hahahaha

Drank my (about) 110 oz water, but I did no REAL exercise--only a little vacuuming. I give the day a 6 (out of 7). I tried "Progresso 99% FF Lentil Soup" dressed up with some (3 Tablespoons or so) Horseradish Yogurt Dressing (from the Ornish Book, Eat more Weigh less). The soup was downright elegant ya'll! I swear--hahaha

If anyone wants the recipe, here's it is: 2 T finely minced onion, 5-6 T grated horseradish (I use the bottled type for convenience), 4 T white vinegar, 1-1/2 C nonfat plain yogurt 3 T finely chopped fresh dill (have used dried, but there's just something about fresh dill), salt and black pepper. Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl.

I took the word that you asked me about "czarnina" which I didn't recognize and put it through a Polish-English translator which I found at http://www.poltran.com and it wouldn't process the word. When I was a kid I did go to a Polish/American school for my first 6 grades, and my grandmother and her friends spoke Polish. Unfortunately I never developed an ability for foreign languages. Even at that young age I did know all the words for food. My grandmother was never happier than when she could feed people.

PEAR watch, Day 28, it ain't happenin' ya'll--0.85 when I'm looking for 0.8!

I do, however, have another .25-inch loss since I started (includes abd, hip, waist, bust, leg, and arm). That's a total of 8.75--the majority body part of that is my abdomen, 4 inches total lost--unbelievable! Also I got through the first three days back to my original diet. It's not that difficult--just a mind over matter thing.

I give the day a 7 (out of 7). I did over 1 hour on the NordicTrack alternating with some weights, leg lifts, and pushups. Had >110 oz water. Still hangin' in there--hope you all have a good day!

Thanks for all your fine comments! I had a pretty good diet day, I'm giving it a 5 (out of 7). Didn't do any purposeful exercise. Drank >80 oz water. I could get used to the every other day ex.

If I get good results, maybe I'll adopt it, its just that it's too easy to slough off the next day after a day of rest. Lost 2 pounds, stay tuned to see if they're the permanent kind. I'm pretty sure they are. If not, back to the drawing board!

I've been busy (I need about 27 hours in one day instead of 24, and I'd be set) but just wanted to say I read your week's posts and noticed you had some Health Valley soup! I just love that stuff. Just found it in the small section of the store where they put the other "freaky" stuff (just kidding)

What I think is interesting is that most of the organic, fat free, salt free, taste free, fun free soups in the health stores always look like crap. But this stuff tastes great!

My favs are 5 bean, and 14 veggie, and minestrone. I see they have others, but will have to try them out in a few months.

To answer your questions about the diarrhea... No, I never went to the doctor. Maybe I'm just one of those people who thinks it's a waste of time to miss work just to have a doctor check you out and give you two aspirin and sends you home.

Basically, I figured, I've had lots of weird ****s in the past from drinking too much beer, or eating too much bad food, etc, that this soup-induced diarrhea was no big deal, and would probably pass. And it did eventually. Especially when I started adding raw veggies to my suppers. I started reading more about fiber on the internet, and started to check my numbers and have been hitting the 40 grams or whatever the recommendation is. I have a great whole-grain cereal called Kashi that has lots of fiber too, so it's working out pretty good.

As a side note, my bathroom breaks lately have been kind of weird. Mostly with just WHEN it happens. I guess I got spoiled because for over 2 months I was as regular as a metronome. I'd wake up... go to the bathroom, and then weigh myself. Worked out really well. But now it slowly switched to later during the day (which means at work! :( and now I'm getting them twice a day, at night, etc.

I blame it on the experimenting I'm doing with adding more and more healthy foods. Flax seeds are suppose to be good for you, but people have mentioned that too much can make you run to the bathroom. I've added 1/2 cup of beans to my soup every night, and you know what that means.

Hey, it's an experiment. After all, I'm experimenting with the foods I eat, the weight I'm losing, the excercise I'm doing, and now the crapper! :) Just one big happy science experiment!

Hi and thanks for the positive comments about my attitude, it IS much better and I was hoping it showed. I was gonna make that part of my scale, but as I was writing yesterday's entry, I realized I'm not gonna get to where I want to be WITHOUT a great attitude, so I scrapped including it in the scale. Then lo' and behold ya'll mentioned it in your comments to me--I was hoping it was coming through my words! Words first, pounds later!!!

As for today I give it a 6 (out of 7), everything was right except I skipped supper--wasn't hungry and ran out of time. I didn't want to stop and get something high fat, so I ate 2 svgs of some high fiber bkfst bars I made the other day. They're kind of weird and they have too much nutmeg.

I did a little over 1 hour on the NordicTrack and consumed >110 oz water. Ya'll have a great day, even if it is Monday!

You know that it isn't good to skip meals, but isn't it wonderful that you do. I mean most normal people that eat to live sometimes skip....because they don't dwell on food as much as we do. Hi All, today was a 7 (out of 7)! Under my preliminary definitions for this scale, 7=Regular exercise, zero diet flaws, and >100 oz water. This scale may change before I finalize it.

Anyway, I ate completely from the "Woman Doctor's Diet for Women (WDDFW)," my original diet. I did about 22 min on the Airdyne. Had about 110 oz water. I think the wheels will stay on for at least 3 days; and after that we'll see if I have it in me to get to 165. I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, what are you gonna do? I'll tell you, you're all gonna cheer my ass when I lose 12 more pounds off of IT AND the rest of me! (Hope I'm not being too presumptuous--we shall see!) If I can't have fun with this, then I'm gonna go private with my diary . . . an idle threat hahahahaha

Yesterday was about a 1 on my new scale of 7. I did try Health Valley Minestrone (fat free and low sodium). It is very good and probably wouldn't be difficult to make canned soup a habit as Rader has done. So the soup's about the only thing that kept me from making the day a zero.

Thanks for all the support; I really think I'm on the downhill side of this diet slump (of course the scale will tell the tale). Onward and upward! AND downward with the pounds!!!

Didn't do my exercise and the diet fell apart after breakfast, about a 3 (out of 7) overall because I did a bit of manual labor. About 40 oz water consumed.

Hey... I've tried the Health Valley soups, and I have to say I'm impressed with them. 5 Bean, Vegetable, and Minestrone. They were all good. The part the really impressed me was the very low sodium (well, low compared to even Healthy Choice's salt)

I can't find HC Minestrone here anymore either. There's a sticker for it, but the grocery store isn't filling it. I guess HC Meditteranean Bean is my favorite for now.

I might switch to Health Valley some day in the future after I lose all my weight, and start watching my sodium intake (If...I watch my sodium intake. I think my blood pressure is ok)

This isn't gonna sound like my diet day was too great, but what are you gonna do! I started out the day with a Mounds candy bar (terrible!) and a cup of coffee. Then for lunch I had a large mixed greens salad with 1 grilled chicken breast and caesar dressing (very good). I topped it off with a BK Whopper with cheese (BAD) and fries, but I only ate about 7 fries (I had no desire to eat the rest). So that was my food choice day in a nutshell. I'm not gonna be that PEAR that I want to be if I keep eating so erratically--I know that. I'm just trying to keep it real for today--hey, hey! Don't count on me to tell my food transgressions daily--just needed to account for my stagnation--for this one day. I'm gonna give this day a 2 out of 7 (scale explanation coming soon--more accountability!!!). I didn't exert myself as much as usual, but I did write a little "diet" Haiku (below). (I couldn't get the lines to break, so consider the * as breaks.) I became inspired by some very funny Spam Haiku I found. My water was only about 40 oz.

You always make me giggle when I read about the 'pear' I know it's not supposed to be funny, but I can't help it. I get a visual of all us DD people getting together and doing a play dressed as fruits and veggies, sorta like Harriet the Spy! Love your Haiku!
