Day 9 of the "PEAR WATCH."

Nothing to report, haven't had time this week for much exercise--today I WILL!. Not eating particularly well. Had fried chicken for the first time in probably 2 months. It did nothing for me, have to say that my diet change has made me ever-mindful of what I eat. I may not be sticking to it religiously these days, but I notice that when I have the opportunity to revert to old habits, I think twice and make a note of how I feel. I truly believe age and how my body reacts to food has an awful lot to do with this.

Well I would scold you for not working out, but I'd rather say FRIED CHICKEN!!! OMG!!! ~lol~ j/k you're forgetting the same thing I forget when it comes to this 'journey' we are on...

Occasionally take a break from your workouts, yes, it really is okay, I guess it's kinda like have a sick day or something. Once a week (by some accounts) eat whatever you like, just remeber to watch HOW MUCH you eat. If you want the fried chicken have it, just don't eat a whole fried chicken ~wink~

One last thing, if you're on a 'pear watch' does that mean your sitting in you living room window with a pair of binoculares watching for passing pears??? ~gigglez, just kidding again~

Hi! I really think this whole thing is a learning process & you seem to be doing just that, good for you. I know what you mean. In my case, I keep cheating every once in awhile, but I think I'm learning from it & maybe one day I'll think more before I eat the wrong things. You keep up the good work.

Day 7 of the "PEAR WATCH."

Had a pretty good diet day. Drank >80 oz water. Did about 55 minutes on NordicTrack--no weights. This was my first day back to regular exercise--in the past, after looking at the calendar and noticing that I hadn't worked out for a solid week (except to run the carpet cleaner) I probably would have been really bummed. I got back on--very proud of myself for that. I feel good--maybe that's the difference. Also, the scale hasn't gone up. I haven't lost much of my fitness. Today's picture day (my every 3 week deal).

Well, I gotta go--have a good food choice day!

Gotta get back into the swing or else this apple's gonna turn into a watermelon. Got the skipping rope--it's really fast. Can only do about 50 swings consecutively. Practice!!! Also gotta make sure I have my JogBra on when doing it, hahaha! Not much exercise--more housework yesterday.

Jumping Rope?!?! Wow - now that's exercise!

You asked if I would miss my workouts, but I'm staying at the Sheraton, so I'm assuming that they will have a decent workout room. I don't think that I could miss an entire week of working out - I'd just feel awful by the end! Besides - the big formal banquet is on Saturday night - so I will need to stay in shape to look good in my dress!

Day 4 of the "PEAR WATCH."

No changes in weight, etc. I have missed being on here, first because of cleaning duties, then I went to get on earlier this morning and no website, DARN--I kept checking. (I echo others, this is a key to my motivation--thanks ALL--gotta put Adam's email in my address book!)

I did about 6 hours of rug cleaning each of the last 2 days. My body is wiped out, but I shudder to think how I'd feel if I hadn't been working out the last 2 months. Other than that no exercise and my diet has fluctuated from no appetite to eating some hi-cal, -fat, -carb Italian food the last 2 days. The carbs bloated me for several hours and coupled with the exercise turned me into a zombie. I think I'll be okay, though. Gotta get back to the diet focus of the last few weeks and regular weight training/aerobics.

It's day 1 of the "PEAR WATCH."

I remember someone mentioning that they were keeping a picture diary of their progress. I am doing that every three weeks. So this coming Tuesday is the next one.

Foodwise yesterday was a bust. I ate a taco and 2 cups of coffee with skim milk, a few pickles, some orange juice and some shredded wheat, then nothing 'til very late. Not enough water to mention and I kept meaning to eat, but didn't. Not enough time to do a workout and to be honest, my left hammie wouldn't have appreciated it, so I "rested."

I have to go to the grocery store and this food stagnation is what happens when I run low on "good stuff." I'm gonna get a few frozen dinners, I guess. I have a recipe to try for homemade "breakfast bars" too.

I appreciate the fine comments and I hope all's well in ya'll's backyard!

I have that food stagnation thing too when I haven't grocery shopped in a while. In order to prevent serious disasters though, I have stocked my freezer with good-for-me stuff and frozen veggies. And it's probably better that you give your hamstring a rest rather than push it and reinjure it. Keep up the good work dear.

I had a mediocre food day. I had a very ambitious workout day. I did the "Burn Fat Faster" workout, which was 15 min on the Airdyne interspersed with weights, abs, pushups (1 set of 15). I increased the weight on a couple. I also did about 30 minutes on the NordicTrack (I set the incline on the second notch). I only did 4 minutes at this level. This may not sound like a lot, there are about 5 notches. But it was plenty for me, and I can feel it in my hamstrings (oink!).

Oh, and I was very diligent about measuring my water, just to see if I was dreaming. I had ~110 oz. Again, the workout drives my water consumption. It's really unbelievable how much I lose. I know just the act of breathing causes a body to lose moisture, and drinking it throughout the exercise means I don't have to pile it on later. Enjoy your day!

W:H is 0.83 (apple). It's supposed to be <0.8 (women), <1.0 (men).

Had to chuckle about the "Pear" and "Apple" body descriptions. I remember reading that long ago. Like we can choose which fat shape we're in!? I know of hardly ANY pear people.

I think all we can shoot for is total fitness, and since you're heading that way anyways, go for that. There's no such thing as spot reduction anyway. It's impossible to lose fat at the stomach region, even by doing 1,000,000 situps, for instance. Fat will melt off in the opposite order that it was gained in.

Upon Kyrin's suggestion, my August Challenge is to get my waist:hip ratio down to a healthier level. I am an "apple" and "pear" is more desirable. Apples carry more of their weight around the waist instead of the hips. Being an apple has certain health risks associated with it. Here's a link: Waist to Hip Ratio Calculator.

Now for my food/exercise. Had 1 good meal, lunch. The rest was grazing. I did NordicTrack for 55 min and some ab exercises. Consumed about 100 oz water.

The thing about today's workout is I seem to have plateaued (heart-rate speaking) on the NordicTrack. I couldn't get it to go as high as usual, which means I'm getting a training effect--good good good! My muscles are behind--what I mean is I COULD (and I did, briefly) bust myself to go faster--but keeping my muscles healthy is my priority right now. So I will set the incline to the first notch and if that doesn't work, I'll try skipping rope. I want to ease into a jogging routine, and I think it's a little early in the game--would like to shed a few more pounds before I start that. Well that's my story, hope you all have a good week!

WEll I had to check my 'shape', pretty cool little link you gave there! TY! Something about saying I'm a fruit though...would being a banana be better??? lol Good luck with the jogging idea. I really enjoy my jogs now, but I did build up to the gradually. Check out www.newrunner.com and also the link to women runners that should be there when your ready. I use there log for my runs and like the way it can be customized far more than Fitdays. Have a good one hun!

That's a really good link - one of the reasons I eventually made myself change my eating habits is because my waist was slowly creeping up nearer the hip measurement. Better late than never.

Hi, you asked what wine gums are. They are a candy similar to jujubes - but better. Maynards from England has been making them forever. There is no wine in them, just flavours like claret. Less calories and fat then licorice. I think your exercise routine is great. I have tried the NordicTrack and it is an excellent workout. Jumping rope may be harder than jogging. You could try a walk/jog routine where you walk for 5 - jog for 1 min. etc. If you have a Running Room store in your area they have clinics on this stuff and they are excellent.

Do be careful about jogging too soon. My husband starting jogging and really hurt his knees. We think he just is too heavy to but his knees thru that pounding!!!

I had a helluva workout yesterday afternoon. NordicTrack total 35 min interspersed with some weights, very light running in place, pushups. That was about all I could take. I was unmotivated to start (maybe because of the pre-breakfast cycling). It wasn't that I was tired--just couldn't get started, but once I got started I was okay. Then when the timer hit 35 that was it. I wasn't going to go any farther for love or money. So I guess I'll try making the pre-breakfast thing my workout for the day on those days--how difficult can that be. Foodwise, I did okay, 50% on diet. No cookies, cakes, pies, candy bars, or fatty snacks. Did have a Pepsi. I drank >140 oz water--sounds excessive, but I drink throughout a workout and quite alot after. I'm pretty sure it's not diabetes insipidus:-)

I've pretty much been stuck at this weight, have gone up to 178 one day and back down the next. It's time to step up to the plate and go for the next 12 lbs--goal of 165. I guess I've been figuratively pinching myself to see if I'm dreaming. Anyway . . . onward and upward!

I wanted to add to my comment that the best part is that you did not want to exercise, but you did it anyway!!! That is awesome! It shows real committment. It's easy to get out there when our motivation is high, but only the truely dedicated will exercise if they aren't motivated!

Hi there, thanks for the compliment. :-) I have to admit when I started my diet on April 1, at 184 lbs. (186 lbs. on new scale), I didn't think I would beable to loose the weight. However, with so many low fat foods on the market these days, and purchasing a George Foreman grill it really has been easier to loose the weight this time. I am surprised how fast it came off as I am not a huge fan of exercise as I only walk and use the exercise bike 3x per week for a few minutes. I wish you luck and take care. :-) Diana

Hello and Happy Friday!

I had a very good workout day--NordicTrack (55 min) + pushups and leg lifts. I had about 100 oz water.

Exercise (at this level) is very empowering to me. I stayed away from exercising, except minimally, for so long that I had forgotten this feeling. It doesn't forgive every slip in my dieting, but it instills a sense of well-being that I don't get anywhere else.

Have a good food choice and exercise day--enjoy life today!!!

Yeah, that feeling is great! I love the exercising because not only does it dump feel-good chemicals into my system, it allows me to have that piece of pizza or other treat without feeling the least bit as if I've done something foolish. If I have my life in balance, then the extras are just another terrific part of it!

You get attagirls for the 100 ounces of water too! WOW!
