I weighed in. I'm not quite at the number above.

The honeymoon with my new scale is over. It seemed to be fine out of the box, but it's not weighing properly now. So "You get what you pay for!" was confirmed again--it was a free replacement except for the price of shipping the old one back.

I really only need just a plain jane scale, so I kinda know which one I'll get now. I realize this is slightly obsessive, but I don't see the point of any of this with a scale I can't believe. Get it, move on and don't think about it--like my last scale--then I can waste brain cells on something else haha!

So here's something for everyone in perimenopause and beyond: Fitness Tips for Menopause 

Oh, I almost forgot. Today is Donovan's birthday--he's 65! When I was in jr high or so, I just had to have one of his albums for the song, Intergalactic Laxative. "The intergalac-a-tic laxative will get you from here to Mars . . ." I don't think it was one of his chart toppers. Many of you may not even know who I'm talking about. Oh well:-)

I remember Donovan. Hurdy Gurdy Man was my sister's favourite song at one time and she used to play it over and over again!! I can't believe he's 65, that's the same age as my hubby !! I read the fitness tips and although I'm well through the menopause it's still very relevant. I think I might try Tai Chi. I've got a beginners DVD somewhere

Ah! the hurdie gurdie man, loved his songs when I was a teenager, so melodic!! Wouldn't it be nice if we could still get those scale with no batteries and just weighed with the weight on them???? Hope your scale issues get resolved quickly. I have a digital scale that I've had for a few years, and I've never had any trouble with it~Wasn't too spendy either..Guess I got lucky!

hey Biscotti :-) The dietician went through options for regulating my blood glucose (ie eat something low GI at each meal so blood glucose rises and falls slowly) but she agrees that the best thing I can do to avoid the onset of diabetes is lose weight and exercise regularly. My doctor will be monitoring my blood sugar more closely now. It is worrying but at least I know what to do about it. I think the safest thing I can do is avoid cheese altogether !

Good for you resisting the cravings !!

The Short: Got new scale. Weighs higher than the old one. Won't change wt above 'til I'm below 156.5 pounds. Cursed at the lawnmower several times. With a new scale on board, it's on to the fat loss show--Act XXXIX, Scene 1.

The Long: Got my new FREE scale yesterday, and I weigh more on it than my old one that the company took back. It's a body fat/water monitor too, though on first check yesterday it measures waaay more than my handheld Omron BF gadget--interesting. (I checked 'em one after the other.) I'll only use one of them from now on for the BF measurement. I'd like to eventually get my BF measurement using calipers--but for now I've got a long way to go. I'm nowhere near 25% BF (with any method) so this will be an enlightening journey--haha!

I'm happy with the accuracy of the new scale--quick checked it using a jug of water with my kitchen scale, which was accurate when I used actual check wts awhile ago--new scale weighs up from it a bit, but it's close enough for me. I'm not going to get THAT wrapped around the axle. Oh weight--er wait--I already have gotten that WAA (wrapped around the axle). The important thing is that it weighs the same getting off and on several times--won't have to do that again. So all the checking's done. I can move on with my life haha. Not having a scale I believe in could be hellatious on some level. Now it's all good--so glad to move on:-)

Time to lose. Time to resist a craving here and there and reset that particular part of my psyche--I've started and it hasn't killed me yet. I should be burning down the weight/fat loss house! We'll see how long this attitude lasts.

I won't change my weight above 'til I'm at least 156.4#--this new scale weighs in 0.1 pound increments--my old one weighed in 0.5 pound increments.

I wonder how many calories are burned by vigorous, nasty, angry cursing--abt a half-dozen times--at a lawnmower;-) If I were still going to confession--what penance would the priest give me for my sin--is it even a sin to curse at a lawnmower?

LOL... looks like the scales have to be trained!!!! :) "Time to resist a craving here and there" --> good, if it's emotional. I could resist yesterday, and this week's going well so far. It paid me off quickly, too. Yes, that was my posting about the scale reading higher. I feel your pain. Same here- won't post until the scale reads lower. I guess we shouldn't be so chained to a darn scale, but that's the reward we're loking for- to see it reading lower. Good luck!

I can still remember my husband buying me a new set of scales for my wedding anniversary in 2006 (he always was romantic ! NOT!)and how devastated I was when they wiped out two weeks weightloss or something !! I was gutted! Gosh - remember those old school scales, where you couldn't even tell what it really said? You could be off by POUNDS in either direction! Good lord, don't sneeze while you're standing on the thing - it'd take 5 minutes for the line to stop moving!! When I got my first digital scale & it showed me my weight down to the decimal point, well - it was a happy yet sad day! ;c) But... I know it speaketh the truth!

I believe yelling at the lawnmower burn 220 calories for every half an hour, especially is you are trying to start it at the same time or meandering around the garden fuming!!!!!! i forgot to mention that I have been watching the videos on dlife.com, in particular the ones about nutrition. I have found them absolutely fascinating. thanks for pointing me in the right direction. There was a very interesting one where a man with pre-diabetes was interviewed who managed to turn around his blood glucose with diet and exercise. i'm trying my best for a similar outcome :-)

My eating has been absolutely horrendous--I think it's time to let up on my digestive system--my whole body for that matter. I'm not having any issues, which is a welcome difference from just about a year ago. I really have to dig deep to remember the horrible shape I was in--I did note it in my diary--it was a particularly frustrating time.

I still have no clue what it was, in case you're interested. Once it began to improve, my dr theorized that it may have been gallbladder related--no history there so far. At any rate, I can eat anything today, and that's the problem. I've continued to test it and test it 'til I'm blue in the gills;-) I think the testing phase can end, once and for all. (I think this is about the half-dozenth time I've written that in the last few months--haha!)

Having said all that--I have noticed some issues with corn products (of all things). I haven't nailed down how much/which products I can eat 'til it gives me a problem, but I know on days that I eat nothing at all with corn, I have no problem. The food sensitivity thing wasn't anywhere on my radar until recently, and while it's good to notice these things, I don't have anything concrete to go on--it's simply a hunch--better than nothing in the grand scheme.

So I weighed in on the borrowed scale--it's just about the number above give or take a half-pound. (I have been adjusting to match the old scale, so it's not exact.) I should be getting my replacement for the old one sometime this week, so I'll weigh in when I get it or on Saturday for sure and start going with whatever that number is--no more adjusting. Change is good!

My Weekly Goal: at least 2 hrs activity daily.
Mon: goal not made; will probably make up for it with yard work as I go along--that wasn't the plan.

Change is good. :) Aspartam: I know it's bad. I now use stevia, Nita sent me a pack some months ago. I really use it like if it was gold (because it's not available here), but it saved my day several times. But those non-fat, non-sugar yogurts are filled with aspartam and k-sulphate and other chemicals that create addiction (I believe they stimulate us to eat more) to them. I prefer soy yogurt with real sugar twice a week, or bio yogurt with dark sugars...

Yes, the same here with the ice! It's late April AND it rarely happens, and even when it does, normally in a much smaller scale... We never have snow in Lisbon. Some 5 years ago it snowed a bit, everyone went crazy :-). It happens once in every 50 years, they say.

lol, I know :) Re: my man - it's an awkward situation because he's not unemployed, he just doesn't receive any payment because the company is unable to pay. But he religiously goes in everyday, stays there for 9 hours, works and in addition he has to keep up mentally in a war ambient. Yesterday he managed to cool a colleague down, the dude was an inch away to punch the boss (company owner) on the face... :S Very difficult, but in Portugal, apparently one has to have 3 months (in a row) salary not paid to be able to quit the contract and get into unemployment fund. If he quits now (he has "only" two salaries missing, one for February and one now in May), he doesn't have the right to go to unemployment and has to give 2 months to the company (working for more two months) because it's the only way to break the contract he signed 7 years ago.
