Hello my dear Diarists! I have missed you all. Remember when I tried to so humorously relate to you that my kitchen pipes had frozen and that it forced me to "tote" bathroom water to the kitchen and heat water on the stove to do the dishes? Well... I had a terrible thing happen.... the hot water pipe exploded into my kitchen and bar area and living room. A GIGANTIC force of steaming hot water! It was so traumatic and caused so much damage. The shut off valves under the sink weren't shutting off... there was another water source.... the plumber had to come and the people who clean up floods came (the hot water shot out full force for OVER one half of an hour!!!) the carpet cleaner left three very high powered fans under my carpet and pad (which had to run for 48 hours). My computer stuff is set up on my bar and when I lifted the units water just poured out of them. By some miraculous luck I had bought additional insurance when I purchased the computer.... I remembered the saleswoman asking me if I would like to buy the extra insurance "in case a cup of coffee was spilled!". I want to praise Office Max here because they took these units in a fixed them, fully honoring the personal insurance that I had with them. I didn't have to send anything here nor there. Today I have gotten them back and hopefully I am back in business. Here is something a little funny that I feel compelled to share. Just before the pipe burst, I was watching QVC and they were featuring "Breezies", which is a bra and panty line. There was a young woman explaining how to measure oneself for the perfect fit. I had on my nightgown and I slipped it off and was using the tape measure.... Just as I turned toward the bar to write down those measurements.... POW!!!! big whole in the kitchen wall and aiming right add my exposed parts. It was just horrible as it was playing out, but after a week or so, I was able to see the humor in it :) I think that since I was here last that I had an episode or two with donuts and Chinese food, but for the most part I have remained very motivated. Today I changed my weight from 227 to 224 and I first posted at 237 on December 27th. Last night again I watched "Biggest Loser" even though there are so many issues that I have with the premise of that show... Yesterday was my weigh-in day and I did weigh 224. So, I am off and running again into another new week. Thank you all for the messages that you left and thank you for noticing that I was missing. It will take a little time for me to go back and read about all of you, but know that I will do it. Good todays to everyone!

Oh....I am soooooo glad your back....WE have all been wondering if you were o.k...when I saw your name pop up on the list, I literally came out of my seat and started hopping out of shear joy that you are O.K.... been praying for you! I did not realize til just now that our starting weight was the same....You are almost exactly a month ahead of me.... YIKES! What a story. I am SO relieved that you are technically, at least "OK". Congratulations on your 13 lb loss. WTG! Even with all that trauma. How is weather and what did Little Dog think of it all?

I remember we lived in a townhouse when I was young, the hot water heater was in the attic. Teh plumber came to do something, forgot to shut off the water - what a mess ! Two stories of flood....I can understand the mess you had! So glad that you are okay!

Day #30 and 7 Deg. It snowed just enough last night to ice up every street and walkway. Shucks! Still doing dishes in a bathroom sink. And, I absolutely have to go out into it today, no matter what. My yesterday was really great calorie and exercise wise. Felt like I was a smartie-pants. I asked Little Dog what she thought of my efforts and I could tell by the way she tried to act so nonchalant that she was quite impressed. Didn't have my great Pad Thai last night because I just couldn't face the pots and pan clean up in the bathroom sink. It was probably best. Water drinking is happening toDAY! And, I am going to try to get myself set up on the Fitday site. I am always admiring Biscotti tracking all manner of things. I've been thinking that GAWD, I have SO much weight to lose, ANYTHING that I do is going to help. I have kind of revised that now. If I was able to lose ten pounds in less than a month just fooling around, how beautiful could my numbers be if I had been tracking things more closely?! That can't happen again without concentration, I'm sure of that. I am so impressed by so many of you, Diarists.

Progress as of today: 10 lbs lost so far, only 63 lbs to go!

10 lbs in a month is phenomenal. Don't get too drastic just YET. Keep it managable! I say this because every time I hear myself talk like that I back-slide. But you are not me. Just think about if it would put too much pressure on you to watch more closely right now or if you really want to do it. If you really want to - got for it!!! We'll support you. Hope pipes thaw and soon! It was only 6 degrees here this a.m., but sun is shining now.

Super 10 lbs....As I have modified my eating and everytime I fix something to eat. I keep saying "Less is more and it will happen faster", so that makes me leave of the croutons and cheese on the salad and cut back on dressing and really stick to the recommended serving sizes on anything I eat...WE would all be suprised at how much we would lose, just by cutting back to the One serving sizes...I could finish off a 1/2 box of cereal and that is what? 6 servings probably...Keep up the good work. Good luck with the pipes. We had 2 little yorki-poo puppies 2 weeks ago today and we have really had to keep the fire going to keep the house warm enough, due to the cold snap....Have a great weekend!

Great job on the exercise and not having the Phad Thai....as much as I love to cook, cleaning up somehow takes the wind out of my sails. Hope it warms up for you. Day #29 and 5 deg. It is a beautiful, bright and sunny very cold type of day.... snow piled up all over the place from shoveling, but the streets and walks free of it. However, today we are to have more snow. These kind of temps and weather conditions are not really the norm up here on the high desert, but I think it is true that weather is rather severe in many parts of the country. Pipes in the kitchen are still frozen so I am washing dishes in the bathroom. Gosh, it's fun. Little dog and I went for a small walk yesterday. It just became too much with the snow banked up higher than the curb and puddles of melting, so we came home. Really couldn't call it exercise other than a sight-seeing speed stroll, though I did get in other types of exercise during the day: And, I am proud to say that I feel it today! After reading CharleyAngel's yesterday post, I was inspired to put on one of my yoga tapes this morning and it was both a wonderful stretch and a struggling stretch. I am thinking that I should be doing a bit of that before any other type of exercise (these old bones in winter) :( Have to watch myself calorie wise like a hawk today because I am going to make a favorite Pad Thai for dinner and... need I say more? Maybe I'll have a late lunch instead of dinner and then get in some exercise at dinner time with my meal replacement shake. I love you guys giving me such great ideas all of the time. You're the best. I am so determined to lose weight again this week. Can't decide if I am determined enough to drink the water... See you tomorrow!

Sure you are-- drink that water! Can't tell you how much it helps in the weight loss. I get one of those big qt size water bottles and have learned to guzzle! It goes down quicker and you know you've gotten it in. Try just one bottle and work you way up. Good luck. Love the numbers going down. Also watching those calories like a hawk!

You know about figuring out the calories. It does help me alot to keep track of everything and you are right - knowing the calories are with in the range does help me enjoy it more. It's not too hard for me to figure it all out I do it once and I tend to make the same thing over and over and I can almost measure it out with my eye closed. All my recipes are pretty simple and I have learned to modify some things (chicken broth instead of butter, etc.) and that helps too. I hpe your pipes unfreeze soon. Your sense of humor, howeer, if priceless. I appreciate it so much. Hang in there.

Gosh - I think I would not cook anything that couldn't go on paper in the mirco! That is how I am!!!! Try drinking hot water. Yes, it is said that you burn more calories drinking ice water- something about your system warming it up. But on cold days, I really enjoy hot water. It doesn't hurt my stomach the way cold does sometimes - so it works.

Cold is sure right.....I had to put out the garbage cans and bring in the newspaper this morning...Brrr!!!! My husband usually does that, but he left way too early this morning to do it.... He works out in the weather all the time, but I don't....I sure am spoiled in a toasty warm house...You get a little work-out going between the kitchen and bathroom to do your dishes at least... ha ha!hope your pipes thaw soon....Ta Ta for now!

MMMM, I adore Phad Thai! There is a restaurant here called the Asia Kitchen and that is their specialty! Yummm! Way to go on the Yoga. It really is surprising how much it works your muscles. I hadn't been that sore since nearly the beginning. Hope your pipes unfreeze soon, dearest! Hey I just bought some Wyler's light Wild Strawberry drink packs to put in my water. They have FIBER in them! Tastes just like Wild Strawberry too!!!! It is really cold here today, relatively speaking....I am actually wearing a winter coat today. Day #28; 4 deg - We got up at 7:00 this morning and saw that it was -5 so we got right back under the covers. We are up now for a second time and each of us drinking hot chocolate (Little Dog's is really a bowl of soy milk and carob) but let's just keep that between us, okay?) and mine is a chocolate Dr. Lessman meal replacement. And it is all kinds of yummie. Last night BL did not really keep my attention. I was kind of bored with it. Guess I was looking for more exercise visuals and tips than all of the drama of the yellows. I mean I like the yellows, but I wondered why we were not shown what that couple (or any other couple for that matter) did all week to have the great weight loss ??? Am I the last person on earth to "get it" that the series doesn't ring true? If one is competing for $250,000, the ONLY people one would vote OFF would be the BEST, not the WORST. The BEST would be the absolutely ONLY threat in the weight loss war. Why do they continue to look to remove those BELOW the yellow line??? Something is afoot, as we say here in Sherlock Holmes town. :) Gosh I wish that I had a great huge hill to climb and when I got there I would find a certificate for a nice surprise :) What did happen was that I got on my Tony Little (like) thing and did three different serious pushes while the show was on and I also did lunges and walked in place. Plus, I did not have the chocolate meal replacement for which I was salivating. I told myself I could have it this morning for breakfast........ and I did. Off to read you now. Power to the Diarists!!!

Congrats on doing the Tony Little (like) thing exercise LOL. I think the biggest loser rewards top performers by allowing them to stay because they do present the biggest challenge. Keeps it more exciting at the end. But I WISH they would show more of the stuff they do instead of the drama. Have a great day!

You have the big hill - the one where they let off the fireworks. Now you just have to find someone to leave a surprise up there for you!!!!! As for the biggest looser, I think they are still trying to be nice and those that fall below the yellow line aren't trying hard enough so maybe they don't deserve to stay? Just a thought.

BL was a disappointment...not so much that I need to see them doing everything, but just knowing what they do, for how long or how many reps...that would be nice, hmmmm? I love to curl up with my little dog...her names Chiquita, but call her Chica or Chicklet! Stay warm and great job on the tony little look alike! and for the lunges and the walking in place and heck! I can't bring myself to watch the BL show any more. I would REALLY like to see them teaching the people what to/not to eat, how to recognize "nutrition", and what exercises they are doing. This soap opera drama *crap* has gotten beyond "old". I found myself going to sleep early, rather than watch what that show has become.

You asked if I had always walked/exercised like this...the answer is no, not always. When raising our four children, I used to play outside with them, go for walks, etc. Then I slowed down. My sister got me started on exercise videos a couple of years ago, and that kind of jump-started my activity level again. Now, with the three dogs who MUST be walked regularly, or they become obnoxious from too much energy...I walk at least 2-3 miles, several times a week. Since I started walking with my neighbor, I walk 5 or 6 miles quite often, because we chat as we walk, and the distance just rolls by. :)

Day #27 and -3 Degrees... Send help! We've got some really rude ice on top of ice on top of snow on top of ice conditions here... Water will not run through the pipes... had to use a bottle of Fuji water for tea (I am going to make sure that I savor every drop :) This is my "official" weigh-in day. I was a bit nervous because my daughter came over yesterday to groom Little Dog, with fast food lunch for us in hand. Honestly, my first thought when I saw it was to say: "Give me that right now!!!) But what I actually did was just nibble slowly around this and that and practice a little self-control (not easy for a child of my age). Daughter does not know that I am on this weight loss effort. However, this morning I was pleased to see that I have lost another 2 pounds. Minus ten pounds in 26 days. Pretty pleased, yet I will have to get a little more serious and try to step it up if I am to meet my April 8 deadline of being 199. I realize that ten pounds is good and ten pounds is ten pounds, yet I have to admit that I am not meeting my exercize goals and we know that after a bit, cutting calories doesn't really do it. This weather is beautiful but depressing because my strongest exercise, body AND soul is walking out of doors. So, I will be proud of myself today until about noon and then I will get it together with an actual indoor exercise program. (I have said this before, but would you believe me if I said that this time I really really mean it?) Because I do. Tonight is TheMother's WW meeting and tonight is BL for others of us and Biscotti's natural weigh-in day. I wish everyone success and smiles when you step on that scale.

Good for you for not pouncing on the fast food! And I know how important it is to do the exercise that you can enjoy as well. I do love walking outdoors and generally prefer to do it without any other two legged folks along for the walk. It gives me a mental break and I can either sort things out or just listen to the music and be-bop along in rhythm. lol. Yes, Lorna Doone--Nabisco has them out in a 100 calorie pack. Just enough to go with a nice cup of tea and to take the edge of a voracious sweet tooth. My appointment with Vince is at 6:00 p.m. and so I thought I would just stay after that and do some work on the elliptical while I watch a bit of the BL. That way, I am just not watching, I am doing! Yeah for you on two more pounds lost. I am so not going to stress myself out this time by having that hurry up mentality. I am enjoying this path....learning how to appreciate my body and all the wonderful things it can do. I am trying to totally immerse myself in a lifestyle change and not just a quick fix. As you know, and probably bunches of others on here, it is not that we don't know exactly what we need to do to accomplish our goals, it is that we are constantly losing the same 50-100 pounds and then we have to do it again. Not this time! No matter how long it takes, I am going to be part of the process and enjoy every blasted minute of it. Take good care of yourself dearest. If I could only send you some of the heat wave that has hit us in the office. Last week they had on the air conditioning and we froze our patooties off and this week when it is 69 degrees outside, well, don't you know...they turned on the heat and it feels like a sauna in here. Hiya,Well done on the 2lb loss it all mounts up.Swede is a root vegetable like turnip and i added some potato and carrot with it,boil it up when cooked you can add butter(but i don't) salt and black pepper and mash it all together.Can you get swedes where you are???See you tomorrow,julie

Congratulations!! Great job not devouring the fast food. It is not so much cold here anymore as it is just snowy, blowing snow/white out conditions, and horrible drivers lol. Take care of yourself and buy yourself a gift for having lost that first ten pounds YAY!!

I'm the same way with exercising, I gotta go outdoors. I'm afraid that -3 degrees is just too darn cold for any outside exercising, unless you are just THAT hardcore. do that indoor workout and itll be a weight lifted off your shoulder......(or hips!)

I want to talk about your comment - I must get more serious (about weight loss) if I'm to meet goal of 199 by April 8th. If you havea lost 10 pounds in 26 days that is about .385 lbs a day for 26 days. There are 76 days until 4/8/08 to be mostly exact. 76 days X .385 lbs lost per day (same rate as last 26 days) = 29.2 lbs. So - you may be able to keep calorie intake about the same and only increase exercise a bit to do that - JUST SOME THOUGHTS. You are doing well. Congratulations on foregoing the fast food.

Day #26 and 9 degrees. We are chilly. Several inches of snow overnight. The huge boughs of the pine trees are just loaded. Little Dog was beside herself. I had to suit up and take her to the street and put her underneath a parked car where there was no snow... I just love Little Dog. Yesterday I pretty much rested most of the day. Did, however begin the drawer project. Watched a very unusual movie with Emma Thompson "The Winter Guest". It was filmed in Scotland in the winter and was a stark and tender tale of one day in the life of several townspeople. This one is a severe reader. Each winter I take on a special book project. This winter I am rereading all of Thomas Hardy's novels. May I ask the UK diarists (or any of you who might know) if Wessex is a real area, county? Or if it was an invented area for Hardy's tales? Today the streets are quiet with the Martin Luther King holiday... still the snow plows woke us. Glad that less people have to brave it. This is my last chance day before tomorrow morning's weighin so I will be eating less and moving more (I mean, I HOPE that will be the case :) Off now to read all about you.

We finally got a little of that snow here in WW. It is so cold though that the kids are all tucked away in their houses. I love watching them play in the park across from my house. There seems to be a lot of dog owners on this site - I am starting to get the bug just reading the diaries. I wish you success with your weigh in tomorrow. Happy Monday

I really enjoy reading as well however it is almost inconvenient for me to start a new book. Unfortunately I have the awful disease of not being able to put it down once i've picked it up. Especially if it is a good read, but even otherwise, if it is not-so-good. I am initially an introvert, but put me in front of a book and I will downright refuse to talk to you or anyone until it is finished! Sounds cold there - a good day to sit in front of a nice warm fireplace??

I tend to go through spurts with my reading, mostly because I can't ever find anything at the library. (It's this old house that was donated by the family, so you go to this room, then it picks up two rooms down, then you have to go upstairs...I just can't ever find anything!) My son will pick me up a book from time to time, but what he THINKS I will like is a bit different than what I do like...(yes, I know, he's a good kid!)

So how many drawers did you make it through?

Day #25 22 deg and a scant inch of new white powder overnight (expecting a little more during this day). Walking in the park was so great. Sidewalk or grass in a meandering pattern around the lake... plenty of room for thoughts and measured intensity. Didn't take Little Dog because I wanted to check it out first. Weekend day couldn't have been nicer. Next thing is to test the traffic during week day mornings. Julie (McWoo) has her birthday today :) New project this winter: I've twenty-one drawers in this place (including kitchen catch-all but excluding others in the kitchen). Such a ratty mess, stuffing stuff on top of stuff. It's just me here so there is pretty much no excuse Made a deal with self to clean at least one per day. I still have my Christmas wrap, scissors and tape in a grocery bag in the corner of my bedroom :( The reward is going to be doing a little painting as soon as I can reasonably have the windows open.... wait a minute.... that is the "reward"? Well, yes. Had another movie night. This time I watched "Mrs. Palfrey". It was precious on so many levels. Joan Plowright's character wore pearl earrings and necklace throughout and I went on a tear through my top drawer to find my own. I tried them on at midnight in my nightgown and that search gave me the idea to clean drawers. What is it that Daffy Duck says? "Dithpicable!: Treat yourselves nice today, Diarists.

Let's see. It's been 8 yrs. since I declared that I would clean out and put in order the two bookcases in my bedroom. That's right. One shelf or partition a day and in no time it will be in order.

You know what happened! Nothing at all. It's just as cluttered as it ever was, but I do hope you are more successful than I was. Any pointers you can share would be gratefully accepted.

You know, I've been thinking here lately that when I have the time to, I need to do the same...I have years of stuff stuffed in cabinets and drawers that need to be gone through and cleaned out! Mainly in the kitchen and laundry room! Doing just one a day would make the job seem a whole lot easier! I might just DUMP into a big bag everything in one drawer and clean out the drawer and put down fresh paper, whatever and then dump out the contents of the bag on a flat surface and go through each thing one by one, discarding or giving away as much as possible! When it comes to clutter, LESS IS MORE!

Great minds, I suppose. I took out twenty minutes this morning before I got in the shower (okay maybe it was this afternoon)and cleaned out the junk drawer in the kitchen. It's not so bad! just do one at a time! AND....we have been living in this house for a year now, with still just primer on the walls. We have been trying to decide on colors and this morning we settled. Of course, like you, we will be waiting til it's a little above freezing so that we can open windows!

How fun - pearls with pj's at midnight!! You have got to be a fun person to do that. I love it when all my drawers and cupboards are all cleaned out. It is like life is a little lighter without all the clutter! I also tend to be a bit of a clean freak though!!!

Day #24 Lovely weather and I am going to be all over it! Discovered a wonderful park in which to walk. I think that it is called "Swan Lake", and the area is just gorgeous. Dogs are welcome, which means that if I bring Little Dog I will have to put her in her carrier across my chest in case there actually are other dogs when we are there. She is frightened to a shaking mess if she sees one (with the exception of best friend's dog). Other dogs are rather dear, friendly, curious, etc... yet if she were on the ground walking she would just put her paws up on my leg and will me, with her eyes, to pick her up. I like to take her with me and toting her little extra few pounds is not only no bother, but probably a plus, right? Yes, berries as food and berries as dessert. I always have a mix (of part or all) of raspberries and marionberries, blackberries and boysenberries. I am so crazy about berries that I have known for 20 years that Baskin Robbins puts "Oregon Berry" ice cream up on their menu between the 7th and 10th day of every June. I put berries in my meal-replacement shakes, pop them in my mouth frozen, one by one, add them to hot or cold cereal... yum. However, I can't bear to eat blueberries, no matter how healthy I know them to be. Last night I watched "Away From Her" on VOD. I am trying to watch all of the films being nominated for an Oscar this year. That one was so very beautiful and I cried through much of it... It was filmed in Canada and I just thought that the British and American actors had that Ontario accent down perfectly! If the Canadian diarists have seen it, what is their opinion? Fun weekend to everybody!

Hi there! How odd that you don't like blueberries! I think that's my favourite! Anyway, other berries are good for you too, you know!

My "casserole" recipe is very simple - I just sliced a bunch of cabbage and one small potato, put them into a baking pan with about half a cup of boiling water, covered the pan with foil and put it into the oven at about 400F for ten minutes, then when the vegetables were cooked through I mixed in a couple of spoons of sour cream and a few chunks of cheese, and put it back into the oven without the foil. I think that's all there was to it - oh, and some salt and pepper! It was really good!

Yes, I do like to cook, but I used to be really obsessive about following recipes exactly, and have only recently started just throwing things together like this, based on whatever I have in the house. I'd adapted a lot of recipes to make them healthier by increasing the vegetables and reducing the empty carbs or even cutting them out altogether. For instance, the cabbage thing was inspired by a recipe I saw somewhere for pasta with cabbage and swiss cheese. The original recipe called for something like equal amounts of pasta, cabbage and cheese.

Dog parks are fun! I enjoy watching all the dogs running around and socializing in their doggy way lol. Berries are such a great food, I must say that I never get many of them but I would love to start! Have a great evening =)

Day #23 and 33 degrees and a full sun! Great walk for Little Dog and me yesterday. I found myself so near to the "cherries on sale" grocery store that I just decided to chance it and go a few extra blocks. Little Dog is so skiddish and shy that I am able to put her under my shirt and cover her without her making one single move. So, under the shirt, jacket zipped and stealing into the market we went. Felt like a thief in the night.... hurry, hurry and no eye contact with a soul. Once in line, however, a young mother spotted my little chest carrier and she said: You haven't left the baby in the care, have you?!? At first I didn't get it, but then, closer to the register, not wanting to be asked to leave when I was so close to making a break for it, I turned around and showed Little Dog under wraps. BIG mistake because she was oohing and aahing so vigorously that there was then way too much focus on us. But, it all worked out... got the cherries, got the extra walk in and nobody was arrested :)

Today is such a beautiful day that I am going to take us on another walk. I don't know the distance. I'll have to check it out the next time I use the car. Which brings me to a subject I have been meaning to ask: Does anyone use a pedometer? Count those magical 10,000 steps? Thinking of making that kind of purchase. Any tips or opinions? Thanx.

Wanna watch me brag? Well, keep on reading: Last night a neighbor brought over two luscious pieces of real pizza. It was about 8:00 PM, and I nearly swooned with the aroma. Yet, I had already eaten my quota of calories so I stoically put both pieces in the fridge. After a few minutes, not trusting myself totally :( I got up and put them in the freezer. This morning I had a piece for breakfast and I think that it was all the more delicious for the anticipation. Happy Friday!!!

Hi DD: I just love reading your journal - you have such a way with words! Are you a writer by chance. If not, you certainly should be. Your descriptions are so vivid. I can actually picture the situation you are describing. I'm so glad you were able to get your cherries and not be asked to leave because you brought a pet into the store. Good going on putting the pizza in the freezer! That's one food I CANNOT resist. I can eat pizza 7 days a week - morning, noon or night - don't care if it's fresh or old (well, not TOO old!). To answer your question about when I was diagnosed with diabetes - I was actually diagnosed as being pre-diabetic in November. My brother was diabetic and I say "was" because he had gastric by-pass surgery 3 years ago and took off approximately 90 lbs. and he was able to go off his medication. Amazing what a positive impact loosing weight has on so many facets of our lives. I check my sugar maybe once/twice a week (if that) but I am going to become diligent now that I'm aware of the consequences of eating too many carbs and not checking regularly. Dearest: I do use a pedometer. I actually clip it on my shoe, not my waistband, as per Vince's instructions. He said on the shoe is much more accurate. I actually got it when I joined the gym as part of the program. It really motivates me to try to get in extra steps. I always shoot for at least 10,000 per day. As for the gas station chinese food---it is exactly as it sounds...we have a local Texaco station that has a take out chinese counter. You can call up and order and within 15 minutes you can pick it up and bring it home and have hot, fresh and pretty darn good Chinese dinner. Who knew? I love your little dog stories! How long have you had her, what type? I bought Chica for Eddy when he got home from the hospital and could not go back to work. I thought she would be good for him and she was totally HIS girl! She was happy and excited to see me when I got home every day but within 5 minutes she was back on Daddy's lap! She was just devastated when he passed but now she has transferred all her love and devotion to me. We have had her since she was 5 weeks old. Great job with the pizza! I have felt just off...for the past few days and feel like I have not been making good choices. But once I get back in to the gym, I am sure that the plateau will end. It can't go on forever! Oh, I can just see you sneaking through the market, hoping Little Dog wouldn't whine or bark in the checkout...only to have that woman disclose her presence! Glad it worked out (and you weren't arrested!)

So, after relishing that delicious pizza, did you put on your music and dance...or did you go into a "food coma" and rest a while? I wish I could eat pizza...but then again, I'm glad I cannot. It makes it easier to resist the temptation.

LOL, my grandpa is quite the eager beaver when it comes to cherries...it is a real treat for him to receive some! In the 'olden' days, he used to make a special trip uptown to the fresh fruit truck just to buy a big fresh bag of sweet juicy cherries, which he would always share with all of us when we got home from school. Lovely!

I used to use a pedometer when I was part of a walking challenge. It was okay. It was a cheap $5 pedometer, but it did the trick for the most part. *hint* you can cheat by wearing the pedometer on your ankle instead of on your hip; or....you can also cheat by sitting down and bouncing your leg up and down on the floor......maybe I should stop telling you all the tricks, otherwise what good is it to get a pedometer if you know you can cheat with it??!!!

I think I have three or four pedometers floating around that I don't use. One is just a step-counter...I guess once I realized that it wasn't completely accurate and I learned how I could cheat (much like legcramps) I gave up on it. On a positive, having it attached to you sometimes is enough to make you move more - a little mental reminder if you will. For right now, I just focus on time, knowing that I usually am consistant with my effort. Once it warms up and I can move outside, I can use google earth to see how far things really are. (This is what my son uses to see just how far he is running. The good thing is that you can zoom in on any location, so when we went to visit my father out of state, he was able to plot out his running route ahead of time, before we got there...kind of cool!)

Day #22 and it is 38 degrees! I am so going to sunbathe today :) Woke at 7:00 AM because Little Dog wanted to play!!! Then took her outside, came in, turned on the heat and got under the covers with her until the house warmed up and then promptly fell asleep and did not wake until 11:15 AM. Woke up clutching the notebook pen that I was using to make my to-do list for the day. Now I will have to do some revising and hotsteppin'. Yesterday I danced and it felt so wonderful and freeing. It is so quiet in my place because it is just Little Dog and myself and I write (nothing creative anymore, but correcting texts). I am so enthusiastic about the power of that hot music to energize me across the board that I don't see why I didn't think of it myself. Dinner tonight is going to be kind of a faux chicken parmesan... chicken tenders on an olive oil sprayed pie plate, a small can of seasoned tomatoe sauce poured over and a bit of shredded parmesan over the top. Some type of mixed greens salad and Fresh Bing Cherries for dessert. Favorite grocery has them on sale at $2.88 per pound........ in the dead of winter, can you believe it? Cherries are lower on the glycemic index and it is such a wonder because they are so sweet. The weather is really nice and I plan to take Little Dog with me on a walk. Her carrier (that I wear across my chest) will be ready to receive her when she tires. Off to read you. xoxoxo

I love cherries. Not familiar with the fresh bing kind...they sound good. Cherries are supposed to be good for you, too. I usually get them in the little jar where you can eat lots of them for only about 200 cals.

What kind of dog do you have? I used to have a little white toy poodle. He thought he was a person for sure!

Your menu sure does sound good with the olive oil sprayed on the pie plate and your chicken parmesan...YUM!!! and you can't go wrong with the mixed greens salad! And your walking! Fantastic! Big smile to you over there on the other side of the U.S.!!!

Wish the weather in Glasgow was as nice. Maybe get one or two hot days in the summer. I'd love to get up and dance, maybe when I get over the flu !!

Cherries (fresh)are so nice, but expensive at this time of year in Scotland. My sister and I are planning to go walking twice a week when the weather gets a little better. It gets dark here around 4pm every day, so need to wait till weathers bareable to walk in. Have a great day.

Is Little Dog really Little Dog, or does Little Dog have a different name? If it really is Little Dog, it's such a great name that I wish I would've thought of it for my very Big Dog. It would be very ironic and funny and sentimental. Well, anyways - loved your Little Dog entry today!

You asked about the reason behind my screen name: I've always had problems with my legs cramping, whether it be from lack of hydration or weather or whatever. When I was a little girl, my Mom and Grandma went off shopping at garage sales one Saturday morning while I was allowed to stay home and sleep in. I had (and still to this day) a habit of stretching out while sleeping and I woke myself up because i'd stretched to the max and pulled a muscle in my leg! I was crying and screaming for someone to help me but Mom was gone and I was all alone, so finally I mustered up enough strength to get out of bed and throw on a jacket and I limped outside and walked until I found them!! Can you believe it?!! It's true! I walked around with a leg cramp for at LEAST 20 minutes before finding them - thank goodness they hadn't gotten very far! (It's a small town - they would walk from sale to sale and a particular street near our house was always busy with garage sales). So I cried to them and they helped me home and by the time I got back the cramp was gone and I was feeling much better. Many more experiences such as this was my future and I decided that this would be my screen name not only because it happened to me so often but also because of the age old theory that though we must go through bad times, they too shall pass - what a life lesson!

Yes, that is our yard at the edge of the woods. We have several acres of mature woods around our yard, and the dogs love to run and play there.

Little Dog is so lucky. Cherries! I love them. Our grocery had strawberries that were wonderful last week. I really enjoyed them. Glycemic Index - wish I knew more about that.....
