Horn_Of_Plenty on 03/12/2011:
have a great day...menu of yesterday sounds tasty. when you buy chow mein, i'd reccommned eating half and getting also a container of steemed veggies. if you wanted, you could have an ENTIRE PINT of steamed veggies with HALF of the chow mein. have the veggies first so you can be already somewhat full when yuo start on the chow mein...this is what i'd do.

It's "daddy take care of us day" otherwise known as Saturday.  Made breakfast in bed for my wife while my daughters and I ate in the kitchen.  Cooked some pancakes and bacon.  Had chocolate chips in one pancake and syrup with the other pancake.  Drank some milk with breakfast.

Lunch we cooked some chicken fingers and french fries.  I then took the girls to the mall to go play at one of the stores that has inflated jumping things.

Now back home and drinking some water.

Haven't planned dinner yet.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Please don't feel offended if I don't follow all of them.  I do agree that less processed and more exercise would do me a world of good.

I don't like eating breakfast, so drinking the Slimfast is about as good as it's going to get for breakfast, other than Saturdays when I make the kids breakfast and eat with them.  I'm almost never hungry and don't think I'm eating too little.

My main problems are eating out at restaurants all of the time and not having a regular exercise program.

Yesterday I had a frozen dinner for lunch.  I understand it would be better with less "processed" foods, but life is extremely busy right now and with the time I have for lunch it's either pop a frozen dinner in the microwave or grab something from a drive-through.  I've compared the nutritional charts for the frozen dinners I buy (Lean Cuisine / Healthy Choice) versus the restaurants around here and the frozen dinners have similar or better specs.

While checking the nutritional charts I was very surprised about Subway.  The sodium levels were surprising to me.  I checked the frozen dinners in my freezer and the sodium amounts ranged from 200mg - 700mg.  The Subway 6" sandwiches with no sauces / dressings ranged from 750mg - 1830mg+.  The majority of the 6" sandwiches were rated at 1100mg - 1500mg of sodium.  I excluded the veggie only 6" sandwich with no dressing that had 410mg of sodium because that wouldn't even be an option I'd consider.  I also excluded a regional / special 6" sub that had 2450mg of sodium with no dressings.  If someone were to order a 12" version of that regional special sub, added dressings, and topped it off with some salt/pepper, they could conceiveably be getting around 6000mg-7000mg of sodium intake from 1 sandwich.

Yesterdays dinner we ate at home.  I made meatballs wrapped in bacon along with a white mac-n-cheese.

Today starting off with Slimfast, vitamins, and water.

Have you started P90X yet? I've seen some videos of success stories and it looks pretty interesting, but hard work. I guess it's supposed to be hard work to get the results though :)

I'm pretty true to the thought that if you up your exercise, your metabolism will increase and you'll be able to burn more calories each day. It takes a while to get to that point, but with P90X i'm sure you would see great results. Good luck to you today!

geevee on 03/04/2011:
What a surprise to find out how much sodium is in Subway's 6" subs! Thanks for that info!

Short lunch times are a real problem in this country. The only way to eat more healthful food is to spend a few minutes at home to prepare your own.

waydesmommy on 03/04/2011:
Life is busy...so frozen dinners are ok, just watch out for the ones with pasta and rice. And try eating a big salad before eating anything else at a restraunt. That's my only advice...have a great day and a wonderful weekend.

So, I've been looking over your entries that you've posted in the last few weeks and I have to say that your food choices need a lot of work. I think the reason why you're struggling so much is due to your tiny breakfast of Slimfast. You need to eat calories to burn calories. What you are doing is slowing down your metabolism and going into starvation mode. Once this happens, you are burning muscle for fuel and storing fat for long term survival. So, any weight you are losing right now is muscle mass and water. And as soon as you eat a big meal, your weight jumps back up.

I recommend following a whole foods plan - get rid of the processed crap and fast food. Eat a healthy breakfast with lean proteins and complex carbs (no white breads, grains, etc) instead of just a slimfast. Eating a real breakfast will rev up your metabolism for the day. You will feel more energized and will not feel like you are starving to death by lunchtime.Do you know how many calories you need to lose weight? If not, you need to visit these websites and come up with a daily calorie budget:

http://calorieneedscalculator.com/ http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

Of course, the last half of the weightloss equation is to exercise daily. You dont have to do much...I started off just doing daily walks with my dog and husband. I lost 80% of my weight just with walking! At first, I could only do half mile walks, but over a long period of time, I was able to build up to 7-10 mile hikes. Another way to increase fat loss is to do resistance training. Im sure the P90X program you ordered has a lot of that in their workouts. If you cant keep up with them, you can always come up with your own program and go at your own pace until your endurance and strength improves. Sparkpeople.com has videos of exercise demos that you can use to come up with your own routine. If you sign up with them (free), they can design a routine for you to follow.

Anyway, I hope you found this info useful. I'll be joining you on the weightloss journey in a couple of weeks (pregnant with baby #2 at the moment!), so keep up the fight!

Best wishes!!

Frozen meals are a terrible substitute for "real" nutritious food. You'd be better off going to Subway and avoiding the mayo and oil. Choose a whole grain bun, load it w/fresh veggies and add some meat, NOT the cold cuts-type. Those frozen dinners are loaded with salt and chemicals and are by no means low in calories.

You could also even make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on wholegrain bread and eat it with an apple and glass of water or real fruit juice.

Umpqua on 03/03/2011:
I have to agree about the processed foods, I think you would be better off with higher calories of real food, especially earlier in the day. And I will level with you because I tried Slimfast many years ago. I'm at half your weight right now and I could not get very far on a Slimfast shake for breakfast (or for any meal). I need something more substantial than that, so I think your body may be going into starvation mode and holding onto those pounds. I think if you eat more whole and healthy foods you may see the scale move in the right direction!

V on 03/03/2011:
You have some very helpful advice and might I add a P90X success story of a guy who weighed in well over 400 lbs and started the program, although he couldn't do all of the exercises when he started, he is now well on his way to being at a healthy weight http://external.ak.fbcdn.net/safe_image.php?d=2bdb721396bf9268651ee16162a0600c&w=130&h=130&url=http%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FCPhU-Ws710s%2F3.jpg
